Rock_fan89@yahoo.com Michael and Colin Part 4 As Michael walked off the plane, he wondered where he could get his luggage and his dog that was in a pet crate and probably in need of a bath. He realized he needed to relieve himself and frantically looked for a bathroom. Michael ran to it and undid the front of his pants and peed. He breathed a sigh of relief of his bladder being emptied. 'I wonder where Uncle Erik will be?' Michael asked himself. He finished and was about to walk out of the bathroom when a US Marine walking in judging by what Michael saw labeled on the man's uniform. "Sir, do you know where I can get my luggage? I just came here from overseas." Michael asked. "You're a German?" the Marine asked as he spun around to face Michael. "Y-Yes sir." Michael replied with a slight bit of fear. With that, the man kicked him in the ribs knocking him against the wall. Michael looked at the man in confusion and became unconscious. Michael's mind drifted off to the very months of the war. He was given a HJ uniform and a gun. He had swallowed his fear and obeyed his duty to the Fatherland. Despite the city mostly being destroyed, he followed the orders given. He could hear a tank moving off in the distance and was helping operate a Howitzer. The sound of the cannon firing was deafening to him. The following day he was given a medal for bravery in battle. At first, he didn't want to join, but knowing refusal was severe punishment (not knowing what that punishment was completely), he put the uniform on. Michael lay unconscious on the floor of the bathroom until a passenger from another flight found him lying on the floor. He ran to get help. He found an airport employee who phoned for the paramedics. The man that found Michael and the airport employee stayed with Michael until paramedics arrived. The airport looked for any form of identification and found Michael's passport. "Michael Erik Reinhart" he read to himself. The employee, Mitchell, figured he had to have some sort of luggage the boy came to America with. Mitchell went over to where the baggage from the plane would be. He started looking at the luggage that was still there and saw only a couple bags and a dog in a crate. All three had tape with 'Michael Reinhart' written on all three. The dog starting to whine and looked in need of a bath. Mitchell went to a supply and maintenance closet and found a cart that could carry everything and moved back to where the paramedics were. One of the paramedics was searching him possibly looking for a name of someone he may be meeting at the airport. "Hey, where are you going to take the kid?" Mitchell asked the paramedics. One replied "The one on 5th street." Mitchell wondered if the person picking up the kid would still be at the airport. He decided to go out on a limb and see if he was outside or something. When he got outside, he saw someone holding a piece of paper that said 'Michael Reinhart' on it. He walked quickly over to the man and the middle-aged man grew concerned. "Are you hear for a Michael Erik Reinhart?" Mitchell asked the man. "Yes I'm his uncle. Erik Adler. What has happened to my sister's son?" "It seems as though he was assaulted" Mitchell replied. "What? Why?" "We don't know yet. They are taking him to the local hospital." "Where?" "5th street and Grand" Erik took off to the car and sped off to the hospital. He also saw the ambulance leave as well. He was lucky the hospital was around the corner. He didn't come to this airport often. He remembered the last time he came here. It was to see his sister and brother-in-law and when Michael was first born. Michael was rushed to the emergency room and had x-rays done. It showed a cracked rib-luckily not severe-and a couple broken bones in his hand. He was in a room by himself within an hour. In his room, he was dreaming of one of the parades his father and brother both participated in for Hitler's birthday one year. His mind focused on Peter the most. He saw Peter shoot himself. "Nein Peter" (No Peter) he yelled as he quickly sat up then winced in pain. His nurse came running in hearing him scream. "Everything ok?" The nurse said with a thick southern accent. This made Michael's ears twitch with curiosity. "Yes ma'am. Thank you." Michael replied with his obvious German accent. The nurse left. He felt a tear escape and roll down his cheek. 'I wonder where Rudolph is?' Michael thought to himself. Erik had run to the receptionist desk. "Excuse me, do you know when a Michael Reinhart will be in his own room?" "Shouldn't be too long sir. Do you want me to let him know someone came by?" "No, I'll come back later." With that, Erik got back into his car and drove home to drop off his nephews belongings from the plane. 'I hope Matt takes a liking to Michael,' Erik thought to himself as he pulled up to the house. The place wasn't as big as Erik would like but it served its purpose. Not that he was poor. He just wanted something more away from the city and all the people. He parked the car and shut off the engine. He grabbed Rudolph and took him to the park the next block over so he could take care of his business. Luckily, the dog only had to pee. He walked the dog back to the house and brought the luggage to Michael's soon to be bedroom. He looked at some of Michael's clothes and the only thing that seemed remotely clean was his uniform. He sighed and reluctantly took it folding it neatly in a box. He realized Rudolph may need a crate for when no one is home. He looked at the clock. It read 1:30. He went to check the mail and only found a water bill and went to see what Matt was doing. He went to Matt's room. He found him reading some religious magazine he had probably bought. "Hey dad." Matt said. When is my cousin going to be here?" "Well, I am about to go pick him up. Can you watch his dog while I'm out?" Matt stared at his dad in confusion. "He has a dog?" "Yes. Now if you could take Rudolph to the park in a hour." Matt let out a snicker. "Why is that funny? It's just a name. And please don't mock your cousin. He may be a tad different than you but he is my sister's son. So, please be nice." "Yes sir." Matt replied with a slight sigh. Erik left and went back to the hospital to pick up his nephew. He wondered what he could make for dinner. 'I hope Michael isn't allergic to anything' he thought to himself. He again asked the pretty blonde receptionist if Michael was in a room yet. Erik caught himself staring at her. She had a nice slim figure with shoulder length blonde hair and hazel eyes he noticed he was getting lost in. " Reinhart, Reinhart, Reinh....." she mumbled to herself as she looked at the chart for the name. "Michael is in room 109." She replied noticing she was being admired and just smiled. "Thank you ma'am." Erik briskly walked to Michael's room and knocked before entering his room. Michael was reading. He couldn't tell from where he stood. "Who is it?" "It's your uncle Erik. How are you feeling?" "My body hurts, I feel emotionally drained and I'm in a whole other world lying in a hospital with strangers poking me. Other than that I'm ok." Michael said in in frustration. "I just want to leave." His uncle gave him a hug. "Well, for one, your father made me promise him that I would take care of you and Peter if something were to happen to him and your mother. Second, I am going to ask and see when you are able to come home with me. And lastly, tomorrow, you and I are going to the shipping yard to see if anything of yours came in, if not when it would be here. One more thing, I don't know how your cousin, Matt, is going to react to you so try to be a bit understanding." After signing Michael out, Erik ran out to the car and grabbed the box that had Michael's uniform. He walked back in and saw his nephew looking at him with curiosity. Erik just smiled at him. "What is in the box?" Michael asked. "Some clean clothes" Erik replied handing him the box. Michael went into the bathroom and was a bit surprised to see his uniform. "Thank you uncle Erik," Michael said. As they were leaving, some of the other patients and a nurse or two stared at Michael. He didn't much care. He felt proud a bit in his uniform. To be continued...
