I write a lot of fan fiction and a few original stories similar to this. If you're interentes, send me a message and let me know if you're interested. It was a cold September day as near identical twins Zack and Cody Martin walked through the streets of Boston with the small group of friends that they had aquired over their few years of schooling within the city. The leaves on the scant trees scattered throughout the bustling city were just beginning to change color from their typical shade of green to shades of red, orange, and brown, signaling that the start of fall was swiftly approaching. The air felt cool and crisp against their skin, but nothing like the chilling winters that covered everything in a blanket of white. The faint sounds of car alarms and the scraping of shoes against concrete filled the mid day air as most of them chatted about the algebra test they had taken earlier that day. A light gust of wind blew Zack's medium length, sandy blonde hair into his eyes. He swept it aside as he and his brother increased their walking pace to keep up with their small group of friends. Their group of friends, more of a motley crew of a combination of jocks, nerds, and one set of twins made idle small talk as the near identical pair started falling behind, yet again. Zack could since that his brother was fighting through something internally, but never could find the right words to ask how or if he could help. He knew that something was wrong when Cody started falling behind in his classes and showed little to no interest in furthering his knowledge. His whole demeanor began to change, leaving the eldest perplexed to the reasoning behind his recent actions and the gradual degradation of his mental state and already non-existent social life. He would constantly second guess his every action until he was unsure of who he truly was. Zack knew that something had to be done before he let his younger brother slip away for good. As much as they fight and argue, they knew they could always count on one-another. As of recently, Zack wasn't too sure how much he could count on Cody to be by his side. He wondered if he had done something to push his brother away without realizing it. "Guys, I'm not feeling so good. I think the meatball subs we had at lunch were bad. I'm no expert, but I don't think tomato sauce is supposed to be green. I'll meet up with you guys later." Zack said with a slight tremble in his voice, hoping they would believe his lie. "We'll catch up with you guys, some other time." Cody continued, knowing Zack was lying, but deciding to play along with it nonetheless, if only to escape an unwanted social interaction. He was unsure if he had the mental strength to make small talk and listen to a group of boisterous boys babbling about the latest music video or fad going around. As soon as they were out of hearing range of their four friends, Cody asked, "What was that about? I thought that you were looking forward to playing laser tag tonight." Zack exhaled a deep breath and answered, "Dude, I think we need to talk. You might be able to hide shit from others, but you can't hide everything from me. I know something's wrong. You know you can always talk to me." "I don't think this is something you want to get involved with. I don't think you'd understand." Cody answered, avoiding even the slightest bit of eye contact. "You're right. I may not understand what you're going through, but you're still my brother. I know you're weird, but you've been even weirder here lately. So tell me... what's going on?" Zack continued, hoping Cody would finally open up about what's been troubling him recently. "I'll be fine. I'm just stressed about the upcoming algebra test. I hate algebra." Cody replied. Zack gave him a disbelieving look and crossed his arms like their mother always does when she is in disbelief of one of their stories that tend to be greatly exaggerated, but decided to not press the matter further. He knew the reply wasn't truthful, but he also knew that pushing Cody to talk about it would only drive a wedge between them. Deep down inside, the eldest knew that Cody would eventually open up either by force or of his own accord. Either way, it would be a matter of waiting him out. "What do you say we head home, order a pizza, and spend the rest of the day playing video games?" Zack asked his brother that looked like he desperately needed some sort of relief from whatever had been weighing on his shoulders. Cody stood silently as he considered the idea. Against his better judgement, he agreed and answered with a silent nod. The pair walked in silence to the hotel in which they call home. The lobby was crowded with doctors that had booked several rooms for a convention. Normally, Cody would ask them questions about their profession until he was blue in the face, but instead, he headed straight for the elevator. "You're home early." Carrie, their mother said as she adjusted her red sequin dress and clipped on a cheap pair of earrings then continued, "There's some leftover pizza in the fridge and some cake in there. Touch that cake and you're grounded for a month. By the way, I'll be out late tonight. Boss man wants me to pull a double shift. I want you in bed by ten, no later." "Okay, mom." Both boys groaned in unison before she gave them both a kiss on the cheek and departing. Once she was gone, Zack turned the TV on and plopped onto the couch with a heavy thud. Cody reluctantly sat next to him and handed the older boy a controller. He took the plastic controller and held it in his hands as Cody turned on the console using his own controller. "Maybe I should tell him." Cody thought to himself, contemplating how he would even try to form the words. "I have something I need to talk to you about." Cody said as his hands began to shake and he exhaled a deep breath he didn't realize was retained within himself. The loose internal parts of the blue plastic divice rattled as he contemplated opening up about such a serious subject or continuing to keep it inside and let the feelings fester and turn into more hurt and confusion. "What's up?" Zack asked as he selected his character for the fighting game. Knowing he couldn't go back on this now, he took a moment to settle his nerves and elaborated, "I think I might be...you know." Zack laid the controller on the couch as he turned to face his brother and asked, "You think you might be what? A nerd? We both know that, Count Dorkula." Cody tried his best to ignore the comment as he continued sharply, "This is serious, Zack. Stop being such an ass for five freaking minutes." "I'm sorry, it was just a joke." Zack said as his face turned into a frown. His brother's words were spat venomously and left the eldest gobsmacked. "I think I might be gay." Cody said in a tone barely above a whisper. He felt sick to his stomach. He always thought that saying those words aloud would feel like lifting a heavy weight off his shoulders, but it felt more like a combination of a swift kick to the crotch and bad Chinese food. Immediately, he wanted to take back those words. As he realized that it couldn't be taken back, the room around him started to spin and his heart beat out of his chest. There was no happiness in his words. The way he said it was almost as if he was disgusted about his possible sexuality opposed to accepting that he's atracted to people of the same gender instead of the opposite. "I think I'm gonna be sick." Cody said as he ran into the bathroom and splashed some cold water on his face in an attempt to prevent the syb-par school lunch from making a reappearence. "I knew those meatball subs weren't any good." Zack said to himself half jokingly. As Cody continued to spend what felt like hours in the bathroom, Zack stood and waited outside of the bathroom. He felt terrible for trying to make jokes at such an inappropriate time. He felt like kicking his own ass out of principal. Seeing the physical and mental toll of his brother's words had made him feel as if he had failed as a brother and a friend. "How the hell could you make jokes at a time like this? He just opened up to you and what do you do? You try and turn it into a laughing matter." Zack chided himself internally as he lamented his being in that moment. "Cody...I'm sorry about what I said. You should know that it doesn't change the fact that you're my brother and my best friend." Zack said as he stepped into the bathroom and nelt beside his brother, gently rubbing his hand up and down Cody's back. "It doesn't matter who you're attracted to. Nothing can change the fact that we're family and you're still my favorite nerd. Who else would have stuck by my side after all the hell I've put you through?" Zack said as he looked back fondly at all the memories he's shared with his brother. As he recalled their past adventures, he couldn't help but notice that he was the biggest cause of termoil in Cody's life. Zack couldn't help but feel terrible for all the things he's said and done over their almost thirteen years of existence. Cody had always been there for him, but he always brushed him aside as if he was too much of a bother to deal with. Any time Zack got into trouble, Cody was always the first one to try and solve the situation logically and swiftly. "I'm sorry I've put you through so much shit." Zack said as Cody wiped the excess water off his face using a towel that was monogramed with the Tipton logo in dark gold cursive lettering. "It's not been entirely terrible." Cody said as his blue eyes made contact with his slightly taller brothers and continued, "We've had a lot of fun over the years and I wouldn't want anybody else as my brother...even if you are a messy pig." "Shut up, nerd." Zack said playfully. "Thank you for being so understanding." Cody said as he wrapped his brother into a tight embrace. Zack returned the hug and exhaled a long, shaky breath. He knew that it took a great deal of trust for Cody to open up about something he had hidden for so long. In that moment, he vowed that he would attempt to be more understanding of his brother. -------------Author's note---------- Hopefully, it won't take me long to upload more of this story.
