Understandably, they were concerned about their relationship, and how it would be received, because the two boys were lovers by now, and nothing would separate them. As arranged, they were met at the border by their grandparents, and escorted to the family home. Once they arrived, they were besieged by family they had never met, and had to answer a thousand questions. Fortunately, they were also given the chance to eat, so the questions had to wait for the two hungry boys. Once finished with their meal, the questions began yet again. In time, the question "Are you gay?" came up, because the boy's closeness had not escaped notice. Jose looked the person who asked squarely in the eye, and replied, "Yes, we are, is that a problem?" A deathly silence filled the room, but then the same person said, loudly, "Yes, there is a problem! In this country, we don't allow people like you to ruin our families!" At that point, the Grandfather, Sr. Rivera, roared, "ENOUGH! These boys are my grandsons, and are guests in my house. If you don't like them, I suggest you leave now and consider yourself cut out of my Will. Good day!" With that said, the house emptied of people. After a few silent moments, Jose's Grandfather motioned for him and Pedro to join him. "Is it true?", he asked, softly. "Are you boys really gay?" The boys, looking deep into the gentle man's eyes, knew they couldn't lie to him, so they answered truthfully, "Yes, sir, we are." The older man took the surprise well. Breathing slowly, he spoke. "Very well. It is obvious to me that there is a deeper love here than one between brothers. I will explain it to your Grandmother. Remember, although you are free to express your love within this house, you are not free to run around naked! I don't want screaming women on my hands. You will have a room upstairs, and each of us will have a key, for safety's sake, understood?" The two boys silently nodded their heads. "Good. Now, go to bed.", their Grandfather said as he kissed them good night. For the first time in a long while, the two boys had a night of peaceful sleep, unfettered by unpleasantness. The next morning, the boys were found, holding each other, with Pedro sucking his thumb. His Grandparents saw that the brothers were so contented, they didn't have the heart to wake them. After they got themselves ready to meet the day, Jose and Pedro trooped down the stairs to breakfast. "Good Morning!", chorused their grandparents. The boys sat down to a HUGE breakfast, and it seemed like the food was gone in an instant. They were fed and happy and that was what mattered, at least to the elder Riveras. When they had finished, their Grandmother wanted to talk to them. The three went into Sr. Rivera's study and sat down. "I know that I'm not supposed to interfere," said Sra. Rivera, "but your Grandfather told me that you are gay. I want you to know that, even that I don't understand all of it, I love both of you and I will stand behind you, all the way. Can you understand that?" Jose and Pedro were so overcome with emotion that they burst into tears as they hugged their Grandmother. She was also crying by now, as she was hugged and kissed them, trying to reassure them that her words were true. When ten minutes had gone by and nobody had appeared, Sr. Rivera popped his head into his study and saw what was happening. He shed a tear or two at the touching scene, and then softly said, "Who's in the mood for some sightseeing and some shopping? I know of places that would interest boys. Then, we'll go get something to eat! That REALLY ought to interest you boys. Would you care to join us dear?" His wife agreed, and off they went.
