Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2014 10:29:14 -0800 (PST) From: Henry Brooks Subject: David & Jonathan II, Chapter 12 David and Jonathan Part Two Chapter Twelve Happy Endings Joe and Ray began to do some serious dating. They were rarely apart. Sometimes Joe would stay overnight in Ray's room and sometimes Ray would stay at Joe's. Joe had an efficiency apartment, and he was on a month to month lease. Neither of the men wanted to bring up the possibility of Joe's moving in with the guys, until the inevitable happened. The fateful night was Halloween. The guys all got themselves up in a variety of costumes and took a taxi to their favorite gay bar in downtown Boston. The bartender was very bad about checking ID's that evening, and they all got just a little bit more than drunk. They didn't get home until about 1 AM. As soon as they entered the house, everyone got out of costume and remained naked. Matt was the most sober. He told the guys to hang out in the living room while he made coffee. "I have a treat for you," he said. He went to the refrigerator and took out a box of one dozen McDonald's Halloween donuts, which he handed to Jay. Jay put them on the dining room table and Alan began to set the table with mugs, cake plates, napkins and forks. "I'll get the milk and sugar," Todd said as he went into the kitchen. Only Joe and Ray remained in the living room smooching. When Todd went into the kitchen, he found Matt just pushing the start button on the coffee maker. Matt had a boner that stretched through half the kitchen. Todd immediately erected also. Seconds later they were lying on the kitchen floor playing a lusty game of sixty-nine. "No fair," Jay yelled, when he saw the scene in the kitchen. He grabbed Alan's hand and threw him on a lounge chair in the dining room. "Wait," Alan smirked. "We haven't had Joe for quite a while. He grabbed Joe and led him to his bedroom, so Jay fell on top of Ray on the sofa. Matt and Todd were sucking each other and purring. Alan and Joe were similarly occupied and both were moaning ecstatically. Last, but not least, Jay and Ray were sucking each other and whimpering. Suddenly somebody yelled, "Switch," and they did. In fact, someone yelled, "Switch" about every five minutes. Eventually they all came in someone's mouth, yelping and screaming, expressing their joy and their love. When he got his breath back, Matt announced, "The coffee is ready." The coffee and donuts were very much welcome after their strenuous workout. They all sat at the dining room table and enjoyed the food. Joe looked at all of them, and said. "Gee guys, that was really fun. I can see how much you all care for each other, and I want to thank you for including me." "OK," Matt spoke up. "It's confession time, Joe. I set the whole thing up. I think it's time you moved in with us. I thought that if you got all that love from us, you would see what a great idea it is..." Matt paused and added, "my brother." When Matt called Joe, `brother,' Ray and Joe were moved to tears. The others stared at them, grinning, waiting for Joe's answer. "I can't think of another place I'd rather live." "Hip, hip, hooray," Alan yelled as Ray kissed Joe on his lips. ********** Thanksgiving was just three weeks away. Matt, Alan, Todd and Jay were going to stay with David and Jonathan in New York. Ray was booked to stay at Mark Chapin's with his father. Joe had to make an obligatory trip to Washington, but at the last minute, he called home and told his father that he couldn't make it. His father didn't mind at all. The less visible his gay son was, the better he liked it. "By the way son, your mom and I are going down to Boca for the Christmas holidays. You're welcome to join us." Of course he was delighted when Ray said, "No thanks. I've been invited to stay with friends." Joe couldn't wait to call Ray's cell phone. "Like it or not, he beamed, "I'm spending Thanksgiving and winter break with you. We'll be in Brooklyn and the guys will be in Manhattan. I'll get to meet the parents. Just as Matt and Alan had adopted their four roommates, Mark and Frank had been adopted by their parents. They spent every weekend either with Ben and Mark or David and Jonathan. They agreed that they would stay with Mark and Ben, along with Ray and Joe for both holidays, and Matt and Alan, Jay and Todd would stay with David and Jonathan for Thanksgiving, but Jay and Todd would be spending another Christmas in San Francisco and LA, separated from each other. If Steve and Clay decided to be in New York for Thanksgiving, they still had their bedroom, and the kids could use the maid's room. Steve and Clay had other ideas. They stopped in New York shortly after Halloween just to say hello, and then they flew to Palm Beach. Harry and Sean were going to join them in the late winter and early spring, and then they were all going to Paris for the summer as they had the year before. When the students heard that they would be spending Thanksgiving together in New York, they were thrilled. Jay and Todd were not so happy knowing they would be left out for the winter break. They thought long and hard about what they should do, and they consulted with their brothers. They were all seated in the living room one evening, and they were all dressed. They knew that Todd and Jay had some serious business to discuss, and they tried to eliminate any distractions. Todd, the future attorney, was the first to speak. "We've made a decision," he said emphatically. "Jay and I can't bear to be apart any longer, so I am flying to Los Angeles with him when winter break starts. We'll only be there a couple of days, and we are going to come out to his parents. We'll be in LA for Christmas Eve, and fly out Christmas morning for the same scenario in San Francisco. We'll spend Christmas day with Todd's parents, that is, if they still want us. If not we'll stay at my parents, if they still want us. And if they both disown us, we'll fly to New York for New Year's Eve and be with you guys. If Todd's parents are OK with us, we'll stay in San Francisco until it's time to go back to school." Nobody quite caught on to all the logistical gyrations. Matt actually said, "What the fuck!!!" "We won't know what the fuck," Jay said, "until the drama plays itself out." Everyone was silent. Ray, who had been out to his parents for as long as he could remember, spoke up. "You're doing the right thing. I'm certain that your folks love you, and will stand by you. I do have one suggestion, however." Todd and Jay looked at him expectantly. "What?" Jay asked. "Even if everything is completely perfect in LA and San Francisco, why don't you come to New York for New Year's Eve, and we'll all drive back to Boston together." "That's very doable," Todd said. "We didn't book the return flight because we didn't know what would happen. Now we know what to do." Todd got up to embrace Ray for his good advice and for his support. They hugged tightly, and when they felt each other's erections, they began to kiss and were stripped in no time flat. That got the boys started on their evening routine of non-stop lovemaking. They tried something new that night. At least it was new for them. They drew straws. Ray got the short one, and Joe got the longest, so Ray was up front. The rest lined up behind him, and started to insert their cocks into the ass of the brother in front of him. Joe had the long straw and so he was last. It was all so erotic that they all came rather quickly, except Ray. So when it was over, Ray fucked Joe while the rest of his brother's cheered him on. On the day before Thanksgiving, they took the old Lincoln Town Car to New York, stopping first at The Caldwell's. Alan found a parking space two doors down, and the car remained there all weekend. Ray introduced Joe to David and Jonathan, who hugged both of them. Then Ray and Joe walked around the corner to Mike and Ben's house. Matt and Alan went along just to say hello to Ben and Mike, and to meet Mark, who was staying for the holiday. Joe had butterflies about meeting Ray's parents. He needn't have had. He and Ray were smothered with kisses by all four parents, and when they saw Joe, the older men had to stop themselves from drooling. As was their tradition, since Mindy retired for the second time, they had Thanksgiving dinner at their club, but the other evenings of the long weekend were spent in some of New York's finest restaurants. The evening they went to The Plaza everyone got a surprise. The maître d' was fussing over Joe for a change, instead of The Caldwell's. He recognized him as the son of Senator Joseph Harrison, Sr. It's an honor to serve you sir," he said. "I voted for your father." "Thanks," Joe mumbled, thoroughly embarrassed. During their stay, Mark and Frank enjoyed the great sex their two young sons could offer them. Mike and Ben were happy enough to sleep with each other the first night, but they joined in after that. In the twins' house, things were somewhat different. The first night David took Jay and Todd to bed with him, and Jonathan took Matt and Alan. On the second night they switched, and on the third and fourth nights they switched again. By the time the students got home late Sunday afternoon, they were all too pooped for anything resembling sex. They got naked and collapsed in the living room. Suddenly Matt started to cry. "What's wrong?" Alan asked. "I love you all so much. I'm afraid that we'll all get separated after graduation." "That'll never happen, "Todd said. "No matter what happens when we come out at Christmas, you and your parents are our new family, our gay family, and you're as dear to me as my own parents. I'm applying to Columbia Law School, and Jay is applying to Mount Sinai and NYU Medical School. I'm sure one of them will accept him. We'll be in New York, and someday, we hope to work and live there." "And what better place to live if you want to make it in the theater than NYC?" Ray added. "My father went to Fordham Law," Joe added, "so I'm a shoo in to go there. I fully intend to practice law in The Big Apple. Hey Todd, maybe you and I can be partners one day." "I can't think of a better partner," Todd smiled at Joe. Now all six of them were getting teary-eyed. They jumped up, gave themselves a loving group hug, and retired to their separate bedrooms, with their own partners. They were all so busy, that winter break was upon them before they had recovered from Thanksgiving. Alan drove Jay and Todd to Logan Airport. Then he went home. The New Yorkers loaded the car and headed for Manhattan, in great spirit, and with much excitement. ********** Jay and Todd were greeted at LAX by Jay's parents. Marge Hoffman surprised Todd by giving him a big hug. "It's so nice to meet you at last. All Jay talks about is what a great friend and roommate you are. I'm sorry we'll only have you for two days, but we understand that you want to be home for Christmas." As warm as Mrs. Hoffman was, Dan Hoffman was cool and aloof, not only to Todd but to Jay as well. Todd began to imagine all sorts of things, none of it good news. When they got home, Dan showed Todd to the guest room, and he looked wistfully at Jay. Jay hadn't thought about the fact that they would be given separate bedrooms. He wanted to come out then and there, but they had agreed to wait until after dinner, which was to be at the Hoffman's country club. Dinner, of course, was delicious, and the conversation was light and airy. The boys told cleaned-up anecdotes about Matt and Alan, whose fathers' owned the house they were in. They didn't dare mention Ray and Joe yet, lest the Hoffmans figure out that there are more residents than rooms in the house their son lived in. After dinner they went into the lounge for after dinner cocktails. Jay's stomach was in knots. He was sorry that he had eaten so much for dinner, but it was so tasty, he couldn't resist, especially the custard pie for dessert. They found a small table and when they were comfortably seated, Jay said, "Mom, Dad, I have something very important, very serious, to discuss with you." Marge took Jay's hand. "Of course, darling, she purred. "You know that you can tell us anything." His mother's hand holding his, gave Jay the strength, he needed. Although Marge was holding his hand, he looked straight at Dan. "I'm gay," he said as simply as he could, "and Todd is my life partner. We love each other very much." "I know. I could tell," Marge said. "You know? How?" "Your letters, your calls, all you ever talk about is Todd, and all the wonderful things about him." Looking at Todd, she added, "Frankly, Todd, I thought you were some sort of saint. I'm glad to see that you are flesh and blood." Marge started to laugh, but Dan was still silent. "Aren't you going to say anything, Dad?" "Yes, I'm pissed as hell. We've known since high school that you were gay. It irked me that you didn't trust us enough to come out with it. No pun intended. We've been waiting and waiting for you to be honest with us. When you said that Todd was coming with you, I dared hope that this was it. It's going to take me a while to forgive you. Now come here." Jay stood up, and father and son embraced. "You too," Dan said to Todd, and he gave Todd a hug, also. "I have just one more thing to say," Dan mumbled. "Please stay in the guest room, Todd. I'm liberal, but not that liberal. Give me time to absorb the fact that my son is having sex with another man." "Dad," Jay said. "Todd and I don't have sex, we make love to each other." "Whatever. Please stay in the guest room, Todd, until you boys leave for San Francisco." In the morning, Jay introduced Todd to his next-door neighbors, Harry and Sean. They greeted Todd a little too sensuously, but there was no time for games. After church on Christmas Eve, they all went to sleep very early. The boys had a 6 AM flight to SFO, so Dan hired a limo for them. When he helped them to the limo, he was still in PJ's and a robe. He hugged both boys and wished them luck. They arrived in San Francisco at 7:10, dressed for church. That had been pre-arranged. Todd's mother, Joan, greeted both boys with a hug. "I'm glad to see you are a real person, Jay. I thought you were a figment of Todd's imagine. Nobody could be as perfect as he made out." Jay remembered that his mother had said something similar...a good omen...a very good omen. "Where's Dad?" Todd asked, looking a little concerned. He's ushering in church this morning, and had to be there early. We'll meet him there. In the meantime, we'll stop at the house, and you two men can drop off your luggage. Todd had twin beds in his bedroom, and they both put their luggage in his room. When they arrived at the church, Jay was struck by its simplicity. His Episcopal church was more like a cathedral. He read the name above the front entrance. "First Unitarian Church of San Francisco." It's a Unitarian church, he thought. They are usually very liberal about homosexuality. His spirits were suddenly lifted, and he couldn't wait for the service to begin. When they entered the church, the first usher that greeted them was Todd, Sr. He embraced his son and shook Jay's hand warmly. Somehow, both boys were very relaxed after their experience in LA, and they thoroughly enjoyed the service. They met the minister in the social hall after the service, and it seemed to Jay that when Todd, Sr. introduced him, there was pride in his voice. He and Todd were sure that they were going to get through this. Joan was making Christmas dinner, but in addition to Todd's older sister, Mary, she had invited her two sisters and their husbands, so the boys knew that they couldn't come out until the next morning. Todd, Sr. was not due to return to work until the day after, so the boys would have plenty of time to talk to Todd's parents the next day, if not that evening. As it turned out, everyone left early, including Todd's sister, who had recently moved into her own apartment. The house was cleaned up, and quieted down, early in the evening. "Let's talk," Joan said as they all got comfortable in the living room. "Yes, tell us about life in Boston and at Harvard," Todd, Sr. added. Todd could stand it no longer. He just blurted out, "I'm gay and Jay is gay and we're partnered. Before you say anything, I want you to know that we love each other very much. We're soul mates." "Wow, I'm shocked. I would never have known." Todd Sr. started to laugh so hard, he almost lost his breath. "We've known since you were twelve, maybe sooner. We're relieved to see you settled, and not running around getting all kinds of diseases." He turned toward Jay. "I know you'll look after him for us." "We look after each other, sir," Jay muttered. "Drop the `sir.' It's Dad." "And I'm Mom," Joan said. The four of them stood up and gave each other a tearful group hug. When they were alone in their room that night, the boys booked a flight to New York for December 29th. After the arrangements were made, they embraced, and Jay asked, "Do you know how lucky we are? We each have three families, our own two, and our gay family." Jay called Matt in New York to give him their arrival information, and filled him in on how well everything had turned out. He swore he could hear Matt crying on the other end, but he decided not to ask any questions. They were too inhibited to make love with Todd's parents in the next room, so they slept separately in the twin beds. It was the best, most restful sleep, either of them had had in many years.
