Chapter 32 It was the Monday before the Thanksgiving break when Trevor finally got a hold of everyone for the meeting. He and Billy had messaged a few times, though it was mostly Billy sending the texts, with Trevor replying with minimal encouragement. Billy had grown frustrated and almost quit entirely. He even briefly considered rejoining the old student union but Michael and the rest of the group refused to acknowledge his presence. Billy was also frustrated with Justin again. Ever since the student union split, Justin had seemed distant and rarely came to the house, and when he did, he seemed more interested in talking to Charlie. Justin didn't seem to notice that Billy had stopped saying he loved Justin, while Billy noticed that Justin also never said he loved Billy at all. It was almost like things hadn't changed since the summer at the fair. He decided to focus on the new student union instead of fixating on his boyfriend and little brother. Things between him and Charlie had definitely improved since the meeting. Though Billy kept himself busy with school and research, he made a point to play video games with Charlie for at least an hour a day and on Saturday afternoons, he and Charlie would watch a movie at the theater. Often Justin would join them, which annoyed him, since Billy couldn't get Justin to go on a date otherwise, but Billy decided to not hold it against Charlie, especially since Charlie seemed annoyed with Justin occasionally, too. Billy and Ry even seemed to be getting along better, too. They hadn't had an argument in a while and even took turns playing against Charlie. Billy wondered what life wouldn't be like had he and Ry were still dating, but would quickly move on from such thoughts to avoid the pain. "What's everyone's plans for the weekend?" Rick asked at dinner that night. He looked exhausted having worked 14 hours all weekend just to be able to get Thanksgiving weekend off. "It's mine and Amanda's anniversary on Sunday," Ry said. "Congratulations," Rick said, trying desperately to turn his yawn into a smile. "You two have been going out for what, two years?" "Something like that," Ry replied. He wasn't good with that sort of thing since his accident, but he was certain Amanda would know down to the second, which he was dreading. "How about you, Billy?" Rick asked his secret lover. "I'm not sure. Trevor wants everyone to meet on Wednesday to discuss the union. If things go well, I'm going to push for a meeting this weekend, when we'll have more time to talk." "Charlie? How about you?" "Would it be alright if Joey stayed the night again?" Charlie asked, reflexively waiting for rejection. "Sure, as long as his dad doesn't mind," Rick said. He had been trying to make more of an effort with Charlie, who still seemed cautious and timid. "If you want, Joey can stay the entire weekend, too." "Really?" Charlie asked, smiling at his dad for the first time in weeks. "You mean it?" "Of course, Little Man," Rick said, patting his baby boy on the shoulder. Everyone, except Billy, went to the living room to watch television. Billy went to his room to continue to work on his notes and do more research. He knew it was unhealthy to be so fixated on the union, but he found it to be a good distraction from his concerns about Justin. Plus, he wanted to make a good impression with Trevor. He didn't want people to think he was all talk and no substance. It was around bedtime, when Billy heard a soft knock on his door. He called out for the person to enter and was shocked to see Charlie opening the door. He was in his pajamas, holding the bear that matched Ry's. "Can I sleep with you tonight?" He asked, sounding sad, almost upset. Billy was about to ask why he wasn't asking Ry, but decided that it might have come off wrong. "Yeah, of course." Billy cleared off space on his bed, as Charlie closed the door behind him and made his way to the bed. "Is everything alright?" Billy asked his half-brother, as the 10-year-old got under the blankets. "I didn't want to be alone," Charlie said, curling up with his bear. Billy wanted to be annoyed. He hadn't planned to go to sleep for a few more hours yet, but Charlie's tone had him worried. He started to put his stuff away, when Charlie asked in a small voice, "Are you stopping because of me?" Billy's heart broke, and he said, "No. I'm tired, too, and I can work on this tomorrow." "Isn't it important?" "You're more important," Billy said. He instantly saw the change in Charlie's body language. He went from sad and tense to happy and loose. Billy put the papers in his backpack, turned off the light and pulled Charlie into his arms. He knew that they hadn't shared the same bed in years and hoped that Charlie's snoring hadn't gotten worse. "I love you, Billy," Charlie mumbled. "I love you, too, Charlie," Billy said, hugging his brother, before they both fell asleep. If Charlie snored, Billy hadn't noticed, which he was very thankful for. When Billy returned to his room from his morning shower, Charlie was coming out of their dad's room having used the shower in there. Charlie thanked him for last night, and Billy said it wasn't a problem. "Is everything okay?" Billy asked. "I guess," Charlie replied, avoiding eye contact and entering his room. Billy got dressed and went to the kitchen for breakfast. He was surprised to see Rick at the table, as their father was supposed to be at work. Billy went to the stove and got himself a bowl of oatmeal then sat down between his dad and older brother. "Not working today?" Billy asked, adding raisins and sugar to his cereal. "Ry has an appointment before school," Rick said, reading the morning paper. "I could take him," Billy offered. Ry, who was finishing his breakfast, said, "It's a surgery consult, so Dad has to be there." Billy looked confused. "I thought you were done with all that." "So did I," Ry said, as Charlie sat down next to him with his own bowl. "But Dr. Rossi thinks he can give me full mobility and wants to talk to me and Dad about it." "Really?" Charlie said, around a mouthful of toast. "That would be cool." "Yes it would," Rick said. "But what would be cooler is if you didn't talk with your mouthful." Charlie swallowed his food and said, "Sorry," as if he was yelled at. Ry reached over and squeezed Charlie's knee reassuringly, but Charlie jerked his leg away and made an excuse to leave the table. Ry shared a puzzled look with Billy and they silently shared their concern for their little brother, which went unnoticed by their father. Billy decided to drive Charlie to school. Charlie was very grateful but still seemed depressed. Billy pulled up to the front of the elementary school and Charlie hadn't said a word since they'd left. The 10-year-old went to get out, as Billy put a hand on Charlie's arm. Charlie stopped and looked back at his brother. "You know you can tell me anything, right?" Billy asked. "I know," Charlie said, reminding himself of his promise to Justin. "I'm going to pick you up after school, okay?" Charlie looked puzzled and said, "But you don't get out of school until 3:00, and I'm out at 2:30. It's too cold to wait outside." "Good point," Billy said. "Then you better put your seat belt back on." "Why?" "We're not going to school today." Billy smiled as he saw Charlie's face light up, as he buckled up once more. Charlie's face fell a little and asked, "Won't Dad get made that we skipped school?" "Fuck him," Billy said, which caused Charlie to nervously laugh. "I have the right to spend my day with my favorite brother, and if he has a problem with it, he can suck my dick." Charlie busted up laughing, while Billy fantasized about Rick literally giving him a blow job. Billy had been given an allowance from the money Will was holding in trust. Billy had a small fortune after the settled lawsuit his father filed against Billy's abuser, and Will gave his son half of the monthly interest. It didn't give Billy a lot of money, but he had enough after paying his few car related bills and gas to do some fun things. "Where are we going?" Charlie asked. Billy was glad to hear the old, happy, mischievous tones in his brother's voice. "How about the arcade in the mall?" "What if we get caught?" Charlie asked, showing a hint of excited fear. "By whom? A mall cop? Please, those bitches don't scare me." "Dad scares me," Charlie said, showing a chink in his armor. "I know," Billy said. I reached over and took Charlie's hand in his. "But, we're not going to worry about that now. If we get caught, I'll deal with it, okay?" "Okay," Charlie replied, returning to his chipper mood. They went across town to the mall. It was rather busy given the coming holiday season, with a lot of pre-Thanksgiving Day sales. They weren't even looked at as they made their way through the food court and into the nearby arcade. The few employees didn't seem to care that a couple of kids were there hanging out. Billy assumed they'd rather have been home instead of at work. As he was getting tokens for the machines, he filled out a job application. He was finally old enough to work and thought it would be good to get some extra money since gas prices were going up all the time, and his monthly stipend was a fixed amount. The brothers played various games for a few hours. Around lunch time, Billy said he needed to go to school for the meeting. Charlie looked dejected. "I'm not taking you back to school if that's what you're worried about," Billy said, as they got back into Billy's car. "I'm taking you with me." "Won't your teachers see me?" "So? I don't care. You and this meeting are important," Billy said. "Plus, we're already in trouble, so we might as well make the most of it, don't you think?" "Who are you and what have you done with my brother?" Charlie asked, then giggled. "Rude!" Billy said, faking being emotionally wounded, which only made Charlie laugh harder. Billy drove carefully as they looked for a parking spot. Trevor managed to convince Mrs. Dorsey, one of the English teachers, to let the new union use her classroom for the meeting. Luckily, Billy didn't have her class, but he was supposed to have had 10th-grade English earlier that morning in Mr. Jacobson's room, which was next door to Mrs. Dorsey's class. He found a space near the exit to the English hall. It meant that they couldn't get lunch first, but it did provide a quick escape route if they needed to run. Billy and Charlie walked cautiously down the hall. Billy was thankful that it was lunch time, so most of the teachers should've been in the staff break room or in their individual offices. The classroom, which normally seated 35 students, had at least 50 kids in it already. The desks were arranged in a circle, with some of the students sitting on the floor; Trevor was one of them. When Trevor saw Billy, he patted at a spot next to him. He didn't seem bothered or phased by Charlie's appearance, though some of the other students whispered among themselves. Charlie had never been in the high school before and found the whole situation weird. He sat down on the other side of Billy and pulled out his phone. He saw a message and his heart nearly stopped. "Why are you at my school?" Asked Justin. "I saw you walk in with Billy just now." Charlie put his phone back in his pocket without replying. He pulled out a notebook and started to draw. "Welcome, everyone," Trevor said. Most of the students who walked out of the cafe also sat on the floor, while the new people sat in the desks. Trevor asked everyone to introduce themselves and say one fun fact about themselves. "I'll start. I'm Trevor, and I practice transcendental meditation." Charlie ignored the conversations, focusing on his art. He decided to take up drawing when he was bored at school. "Charlie," Billy whispered. Charlie looked up and saw everyone staring at him. "It's your turn." "Me?!" Charlie said, his brown eyes wide with shock. Billy gave him an encouraging look, so Charlie said, "Hi. I'm Charlie. Billy is my brother, and we're skipping school today." Several students laughed and cheered. Billy introduced himself and said that he liked chocolate. The meeting was semi-productive. Despite the objections, Trevor made them all vote for the key positions. He was elected President. A Japanese lesbian named Izumi was elected Vice President. A gender queer student named Stacey was elected Treasurer, and Billy was elected Secretary. Billy wanted the Vice Presidency, but after thinking about it, he decided that being Secretary wasn't bad, since it would allow him to keep track of projects and have better input. The end-of-lunch bell rang. Billy hastily jumped to his feet, knowing that the teachers were heading back to their classrooms, if they weren't there already. "Trevor," Billy called out, as he helped Charlie with his backpack. "Can we get together this weekend to talk about some of the ideals I want to present to the group?" Trevor, who had been talking to his new VP, turned to Billy and said, "Sure. DM me later, and we'll work something out." He then walked over, shook Charlie's hand and gave Billy a hug. Billy was caught off guard and awkwardly returned the embrace. Billy looked quickly to make sure the coast was clear, as he and Charlie left the classroom. They were almost at the exit when an all-too-familiar voice yelled at the pair. "What the Hell are you two doing?" The brothers froze, each swearing under their breaths. They turned to see Ry standing at the opposite end of the hall, looking confused and furious. "Run," Billy said, taking Charlie by the hand. He knew there was no way Ry could catch up to them, even if Ry wasn't disabled. Charlie laughed as Billy shouldered the door open and they ran to Billy's car, being careful not to slip on the ice and snow. Billy nearly dropped his keys as he unlocked Charlie's side. For his part, Charlie scrambled to unlock Billy's door, before his brother made it all the way around the vehicle. Billy did his best to leave in a hurry without being reckless, as there were still plenty of students and staff returning from their off campus lunch. "That was fucking amazing!" Charlie said excitedly, his heart pounding with adrenaline. He looked at Billy realizing that he said a bad word. "It was fucking amazing!" Billy repeated, approving of Charlie's word choice. Having grown hungry and not sure if Ry had told on them yet, Billy drove to the nearest fast food drive thru. They got a couple burgers and some drinks, before Billy drove to a nearby park. The place was covered in snow, so they stayed in the car, ate their food and talked. Charlie was concerned about Ry telling on them. Though Billy couldn't guarantee it, he was certain that Ry would at least talk to him before going to their dad, which was a little comfort. They talked about the meeting and how impressed they were with Trevor, who directed the group without being a dick about it, unlike Michael, who seemed to have the other union members under their thumb. "How did you know you were gay?" Charlie blurted. Ever since Justin's text, he couldn't get the teen or what they did out of his head. Caught off guard, Billy asked, "Is that what's been bothering? Do you think you're gay?" "I don't know," Charlie said and shrugged his shoulders. "How did you know?" Billy thought about it for a few minutes. It wasn't something he thought about a lot. He knew he had a sexual awakening when he was 9-years-old while showering with his stepfather, but not only did he feel it didn't count, he didn't want to say that to his half-brother. "I guess I've always known," Billy replied. "I've always liked boys and men as far back as I can remember. Do you like boys?" "I don't know," Charlie said, avoiding eye contact. Empathizing with his baby brother and knowing that he needed to be supportive, Billy decided to tread carefully. "Do you like girls?" He asked, hoping to convey that he was just worthy with his tone. "I don't know." "Well," Billy said, choosing his words carefully. "You're still young enough to not know who you do and don't like in that way. You could also be bi-sexual, like Ry, so you like both boys and girls; however, I think you might be A-sexual." "What's that?" Charlie asked, making eye contact at last. "It means you don't like anyone that way." Charlie gave Billy a sad look, which Billy misinterpreted, so he added, "It doesn't mean you won't ever like someone, but it isn't something you're necessarily interested in doing. Does that make sense?" "Kinda," Charlie said. He was still confused. Charlie did know that he didn't like anyone sexually; however, he still didn't know if it meant he was gay or not. Billy pulled Charlie into his arms and hugged his brother, who hugged him back. "This isn't something you need to worry about," Billy said. "It isn't something that should matter, especially for someone as young as you, and you have so much love and support, Charlie. We're all here to help you. Remember how hard it was for me to come out to Mom?" "Yeah," Charlie said, wiping tears from his eyes. "I did it for you." Charlie chuckled remembering the shocked look on his families' faces when he told everyone what he had known for a while. "That's right. You knew before anyone else did, so I think you're smart enough to figure this out, but you're also not alone. You have me, Ry, Dad and Will. We all love you and will support you no matter what." "Unless Brenda screws everything up," Charlie said, bitterly. "That bitch can go to Hell," Billy said, matter-of-fact. "I don't think Dad will be with her much longer." "I hope not," Charlie said. The brothers spent the rest of the afternoon driving around town. About two in the afternoon, Billy was called in for an interview at the arcade. He was nervous but thought he did well. The manager said he'd call later if Billy got the job, which Billy didn't take as a good sign but remained hopeful. Rick's truck was in the driveway when they got home. Neither saw this as a good sign, since he wasn't due home for a few more hours yet. Billy told Charlie to go to his room and not come out till either he or Ry came for him, just in case Rick started yelling. Billy opened the door first. He didn't see or hear anyone, so he let Charlie pass first to give faster access to the stairs. Charlie was about halfway through when Rick's voice echoed from the living room. "Hold it right there!" Charlie stopped out of instinct. "Come here," Rick said. "Both of you." Billy had a hard time reading his lover's tone. There most certainly was the parental weight of authority, but he couldn't tell if there was anger or not. Billy took Charlie by the hand, giving it a little squeeze, and led the way into the room, trying to position himself so Charlie was slightly behind him. "What's up?" Billy asked, trying to sound as casual as possible. Rick was sitting on the couch, reports scattered all over the coffee table before him. He looked up and saw the guilty looks on his sons' faces. "I talked to your brother earlier," He said, baiting his trap. "Care to tell me what happened?" Hoping to buy time and get more information, Billy asked, "What did he say?" Rookie mistake, Rick thought to himself. "I think I asked you first." Rick looked at Charlie and saw the boy shrink behind his older brother. Rick felt a punch in his gut from guilt but decided to stay the course. "Well?" "Hey Charlie," Ry said as he came into the room, ignoring the look his father gave him. "Feeling any better?" Charlie looked back at Ry and saw a look that told him to run with it. "Not really," Charlie said. "Stomach still hurt?" Ry asked. "Yeah," Charlie said, obviously faking a groan, while rubbing his belly. "Fine," Rick said, accepting his loss. To Billy he said, "the next time you take your brother out of school, at the very least you can do it send me a text saying why." "Next time?" All three boys asked. Measuring his words carefully, Rick said, "IF there is a next time, it better be for a good reason, and you better ask first." "Are we grounded?" Charlie asked. "No," Rick said, "But you will be next time, got it?" "Yes sir," Billy and Charlie said before heading upstairs. When they got to the top of the landing, Charlie hugged Billy and said, "Thank you for today." Billy hugged Charlie back and said, "Of course. Thanks for coming." Billy went to his room feeling proud of himself. He knew Rick would take it out on him the next time they had sex, which only got Billy hard. He adjusted his cock in his pants and remembered the hard-on he got when Trevor hugged him, hoping it would happen again. ***Coming Soon, Chapter 33***
