Chapter 51 The rest of the school week was uneventful. The high schoolers had major reports to do in English and History, while the grade schoolers had to read Island of the Blue Dolphins. None of the boys were happy to read a book starring a girl, but they had no other choice. What was more, on Wednesday, Ry's doctor's office called saying they managed to move up Ry's surgery to Friday if he was available. Though it was a shock, there was nothing holding Ry back. He was nervous and his anxiety was horrible at times, but he secretly wished for the procedure to work. Full mobility was a dream that might become reality; however, if it didn't work, Ry decided that it would be his last attempt. Surgery was too physically draining and emotionally exhausting, and he'd had enough to last him a few lifetimes. Since Rick was going to need to be with Ry at the hospital, Rick didn't want David staying the night. Billy had to work, and Will business to attend back in Nebraska. Billy had offered to watch all three boys, since he was already having to watch Charlie and Joey, but Rick wasn't sure if Billy was really up to the task; plus, he was sure that Trevor would be staying, giving Billy too many distractions. Charlie and Joey were upset by the situation. It had been too long without David in their lives, so they asked David to see if it would be alright if they stayed at his house for the weekend. David was apprehensive, given that his father had only just gotten over being mad at the pair, but he agreed to ask, nonetheless. Billy and Trevor didn't try the staff bathroom again. They were pleased to see Justin keeping his distance, though. They were certain that Justin was talking trash behind their backs, but agreed that it only made Justin a whiny, bitter bitch; besides, they had more pressing issues to deal with. With the new year, came renewed interest in the new LGBTQIA+ student union. Billy came up with the name the Equality First Union or EFU, which was pronounced as F-you. Trevor felt the name could've been a bit more mature but gave into the overwhelming vote from the members, which had grown to over a hundred students during the break. Michael and the remaining members of the "official" student union were still trying to get EFU shut down by the school. Many times, Trevor wound up in the vice principal's office for catching Michael tearing down posters or harassing members of the new group, failing to realize their actions were causing the defection from the old group. "You're still coming over this weekend, right?" Billy asked at lunch on Friday. "Unless you don't want me to," Trevor said. "Of course I want you to come over. I just wasn't sure after what I told you about Rick, is all." Trevor leaned in and kissed Billy. "I said I didn't care, didn't I? You said it was consensual, and I believe you. I'm glad you told me, and I get why you didn't before. Most people would freak out and report Rick, but I'm not most people." "And that's one of the things I love about you," Billy said. He froze. Panic started to set it, since he had never used the L-word in front of Trevor before. "Thanks," his boyfriend said, kissing him again. "And stop looking so scared. You look like you called me something racist." Billy nervously chuckled and said, "I'd never call you anything like that, and I thought I screwed up by saying "love" too soon. When I said I loved Justin, he kinda freaked out on me." "I think I've proven I'm not that guy," Trevor assured. Billy knew Trevor wasn't lying, which made things a lot better. Meanwhile, school for Charlie and Joey was rather dull. Apparently, according to Stacey Jansen, Jack was sent to a private school. "His brother told my brother that Jack's parents were mad because you beat him up," she said to Charlie, with a mix of bitterness and conspiratorial glee. "He hit David," Joey interjected. "He started it." "Still," she said, turning her nose up at him. "It's your fault he's not here." "Good," Charlie said, grabbing his lunch tray and stepping out of line. "He was a jerk, anyway." Joey and Charlie made their way to David, who brought his lunch and didn't need to stand in line. "I hope your dad will let you guys stay at my place." "It shouldn't be a problem," Charlie said, passing his pudding over to David. "I'm just glad your dad is okay with us staying Saturday." "I know. I think he feels bad for grounding me from you guys. Mom said that he knew he shouldn't have done it." "Will we have to go to church on Sunday?" Joey said, obviously uncertain of the prospect. "He didn't say," David said, avoiding eye contact with Joey. "I think he'd want you to, though." "I think we could suck it up for a few hours," Charlie told Joey. "We want to stay on his good side." "I guess," Joey said, stabbing his room temperature fish patty. By the time Billy, Charlie and Joey got home, Rick and Ry were already at the hospital. Billy asked what they wanted for dinner, and the younger boys said in unison, "Take out." Billy got a little offended then remembered that he would have to do the cooking then hastily forgave them. Rick came home around midnight. Billy greeted his dad at the door. "How's Ry?" He asked, kissing Rick on the lips, which was returned three-fold. "He's still in recovery. The surgeon says he's hopeful and that Ry should be able to come home on Monday if there aren't any complications." "That's good to hear." They made their way to the couch. Billy removed Rick's shoes and socks, and began to give his lover a foot massage. Rick moaned his thanks. "When are you going back?" "First thing in the morning. You know how much your brother hates hospitals and being alone. I would've stayed all night but they didn't have the space for me. Luckily, he's too high to care." Rick looked around and asked, "I thought Trevor was coming over." Billy paused for a second and said, "He's upstairs talking to this mom." Rick looked a little panicked. "What if he sees you rubbing my feet?" "He won't care," Billy said, trying to focus on his hands and not look Rick in the eyes. "I told him about us." Rick pulled his feet back and sat up. Billy refused to meet his gaze but could feel the heat of boiling rage building up in his lover. "You did what?" "I told him about us, you know, all of it." With great effort to keep his trembling voice from ringing out, Rick demanded, "Why would do something so fucking stupid?" Tears fell down Billy's cheeks as he explained what had happened in the staff bathroom and how well Trevor understood the circumstance. "He doesn't care, Dad. Honestly, he doesn't." "What if he tells someone, Billy? I could go to prison!" Billy turned to his dad and saw the panic, pain and desperation on Rick's face. "You won't! I promise you won't go to prison! I trust him like I trust you!" Rick stood and walked towards the stairs. "Daddy?" Billy called out. "I can't right now," Rick said, without looking back, as he ascended the staircase, leaving Billy sobbing on the couch. Rick was furious and scared. He hardly knew Trevor and he found the teen's stoicism difficult to deal with at times. If he was honest with himself, he was surprised that Billy managed to keep their secret for as long as he had; however, he felt betrayed by the one person he trusted with everything. They were so close to being free legally to be lovers. Once Billy turned 18, they wouldn't have to worry about Rick going to prison. He regularly studied the law to make sure things hadn't changed on him. His phone buzzed from a notification; it was Brenda. Rick wanted to throw his phone, but he was afraid it would wake up Joey, who might want to see what's going on. For want of something to do, he looked at the text. Brenda was confirming their lunch appointment for the next day. Rick swore and said he couldn't meet the next day. He knew she was going to blow up his phone, so he offered to meet Sunday instead. She replied that Sunday was fine. Rick took off his clothes and got into bed. Charlie got up in the middle of the night to take Little Joey out. He saw his dad sitting on the couch, watching TV. Rick didn't say anything as Charlie made his way to the garage. When he came back in, Charlie walked over to his dad and got on the couch. "What's up, Little Man?" Rick asked his youngest boy. "Nothing," Charlie said, getting under the blanket his dad was under, so he could snuggle up better. "You looked lonely." Rick smiled and pulled Charlie into his arms, making sure they were both wrapped up properly under the heavy quilt. "I'm not lonely anymore." "Good," Charlie said, and kissed his dad on the cheek. "Daddy?" "Yeah, Baby?" "Can me and Joey stay at David's tomorrow night? His dad said it was okay." "Sure, Little Man. I think you've earned a night away, so I'll take care of Little Joey while you're gone." "I love you, Daddy!" Charlie said, burying his face into his dad's hairy chest and closing his eyes. "I love you, too, Charlie," Rick said, kissing his son's head and closing his own eyes. Charlie woke up the next day alone on the couch. Rick had gotten up early and left for the hospital. He made sure he left before Billy or Trevor woke up, so he could avoid the awkwardness that was bound to happen. Charlie was disappointed. He fell asleep before he could touch his dad again but was happy that they were still nearly naked, having slept in their underwear. He got up and took Little Joey out. The house was quiet and Charlie began to wonder if he was left alone. Once the puppy was taken care of, Charlie went up stairs to his room. Joey was still asleep, so Charlie took off his briefs and crawled into bed, pulling his friend into his arms. Joey gave a cute, annoyed moan but relented to Charlie's touch. Joey, too, was naked and rubbed his bare butt against Charlie's hardening dick. Unfortunately, they were interrupted by Billy knocking on the door, telling them to get ready to go to David's. Reluctantly, the boys got out of bed and got ready for the day and their sleepover. Billy and Trevor drove the boys to David's. The older boys were rather quiet. Billy had gone to bed crying. He told Trevor what happened between him and Rick. Trevor comforted Billy the best he could, knowing that it wasn't going to be much. He held his boyfriend, assuring him that everything was going to be alright. Trevor decided that he'd talk to Rick and explain that the older man had nothing to worry about. "Doesn't Justin live here?" Trevor asked, as Billy pulled into the trailer park. "I think so," Billy said, looking around. Charlie and Joey kept quiet, hoping they wouldn't be asked, though for different reasons. Both sighed with relief as Billy turned away from the direction of Justin's house and towards David's. Charlie hugged Billy and Trevor, thanking them for the ride. David came out as Billy pulled out of the driveway. He helped his friends with their bags, taking them to the room he shared with his brothers. The room was still as messy as before, though David assured them that they'd have the space to themselves, as his brothers would be sleeping with his parents. Joey remarked that he hadn't been to his own house since his dad's accident and wondered if they would be allowed to stay there instead. David, feeling mildly insulted, said that his dad wouldn't let them, since they'd be unsupervised. Joey relented to the logic and began to set up his gaming console. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were very polite, and Mr. Williams gladly accepted Charlie's apology for his part in David being attacked. Joey, too, apologized, though it seemed to be more because Charlie did it than out of his own sense of obligation. He was sincere about feeling bad for hitting David and Charlie, but he didn't see how he was at fault for Jack hitting David, because Jack was a lousy fighter. The day and evening were spent playing video games and catching up. David was glad to hear that Ry was doing okay and was looking forward to gaming with him again. Mr. Williams mentioned that they should make sure they weren't up too late, since they had church the next morning. Both Charlie and Joey stifled groans of dread. Charlie slept fitfully. He wasn't very comfortable sleeping next to David, who was being spooned by Joey. He missed sleeping naked but figured David and his parents wouldn't approve, so he was very exhausted the next morning when Mrs. Williams woke them for breakfast. Everyone piled into the family's station wagon and went to the service. Mr. Williams greeted the parishioners, as everyone else took their seats. The sermon was about betrayal. Mr. Williams went on and on about how some guy named Judas betrayed Jesus, which Charlie thought was odd, since if Jesus knew that Judas was going to sell him out, how could Jesus feel betrayed? To him, it seemed clear that if Jesus didn't want to be told on, he shouldn't have had Judas hanging around to begin with. Once the main service was over, it was time for the bible study. David had already warned Charlie that the same lady from last time was running it, so Charlie made an excuse to use the bathroom. Joey tried joining him, but Charlie shot it down, saying that it would be obvious and that Mr. Williams would be very upset. Joey huffed and followed David to the small classroom in the basement. In truth, Charlie didn't want to go into the room. He still remembered the nightmare he had involving that woman and Justin, and it freaked him out thinking about it. Instead, he decided to wait for the classes to start, then he was going to go to a nearby store for something to drink. It was a nice, cool day. The air was crisp but there was a clear, bright blue sky above. Charlie took the opportunity to text Billy for a ride home, as he came across a very familiar looking car in a diner parking lot. It was his dad's. Charlie smiled to himself and crossed the street. He hastily sent Billy a text canceling the ride, since he figured he could get his dad to do it. He opened the door to the diner and his smile dropped with his jaw. "NO!" ***Coming Soon, Chapter 52***
