Chapter 61 Everyone was quiet on the way home. Rick sent Billy a text to make sure he would be home to help Ry to his room, since Ry was still on bed rest for the next few days. Charlie was deep in thought. Justin was still alive...so who died in his house? Did Justin kill someone? Brenda was dead...so was her baby.... He felt sick that he was glad she was dead. He knew he should feel bad about it, but he hated her almost more than he hated Justin. At least Justin had been nice to him in the beginning. Brenda was always mean and cruel to him. For the first time in his life, Ry was happy to be missing school till the following week. He didn't want to see Amanda, since their break up was bad enough. Ry hated her father, and the thought of that asshole sitting in prison for decades made him happy, though. Ry was certain that Mr. Tangetti would be someone bitch in prison. The man talked tough but Ry didn't think he could back it up; after all, he had to run over a disabled teen instead of trying to fight him like a real man. Rick went over in his head the things he wanted to yell at Billy. He was pissed about the dick pics he had asked his son and lover to stop sending over a year prior. If Brenda had those pictures in her apartment, it would only be a matter of time till the police linked them to Billy's account. He was also worried about what Will would say. Rick knew he didn't do a good job lying about why he was sent another man's dick. Although Will didn't say anything, Rick was scared of how Will would handle things if he ever found out about him and Billy. Will, meanwhile, kept his thoughts on things he needed to do after talking to his family. Sure, it was interesting to see Rick squirm when Det. Haskins brought up Billy's dick pic, but it was too close and could have blown everything he had spent the last four years building up to. Unfortunately, Det. Haskins wasn't on his payroll, so there would be nothing Will could do to stop an investigation should the detective make any unfortunate discovery too soon. It was also unfortunate that Ronda wasn't going to be released for another two years. If Rick went to prison, the boys would either have to move to Canada with Kenny, where Will couldn't go due to his felony conviction, or they'd be placed in foster care. At times Will wondered if foster care would really be that bad, but after the abuse Charlie had been suffering, the last thing the little boy needed was to be placed in a stranger's house with another abuser to be. Will looked in his rear view mirror at the fragile boy. His heart broke as guilt flooded in. He internally beat himself up for not watching the cameras. Not only was Will a sex offender but he had been in prison with hundreds of sexual predators. He felt that he should've seen Justin coming from miles away; then again, he didn't see his former father-in-law coming either, until he saw the man raping Billy. "You alright?" Rick asked. Will pulled himself out of his thoughts and realized that his knuckles were white from gripping the steering wheel too tight. "I'm fine," Will replied, loosening his grip. "It's just been a long couple of days." "Yeah, it has," Rick said, as he looked out at the road ahead. Billy and Trevor were outside as Will pulled up. The older boys helped Ry into the house, while Charlie insisted on bringing in Ry's medical supplies. Rick didn't bother trying to convince his youngest to take a break. Everyone knew that it was Charlie's way of coping with Ry's medical issues, but Rick knew that it was also Charlie's way to avoid being in the same room as him. "I'm sure he'll come around," Will said, following Rick into the house. "We'll see," Rick said, sitting in his recliner. "He's a lot like his mother." "As someone who was once on Ronda's shit-list, I would have to say there's still hope for Charlie, yet." Rick chuckled. "Sure, it only took you fifteen years." "Fair enough," Will conceded, sitting on the couch furthest from Rick. Billy and Trevor--mostly Trevor--made everyone lunch. Ry was starving and gladly accepted the sandwiches despite his reservations for Billy's culinary skills. Trevor went upstairs to fetch Charlie, who initially refused to come back down. "Where's Joey?" Rick asked the boys. Billy replied, "We took him to see his dad. We didn't know if you wanted him here for this; plus, if Mr. Bell saw any of this on the news, we wanted him to know that Joey was okay." "Good call," Will said, making a note to pick Joey up from the physical rehabilitation facility. "I think it's time that we put everything on the table," Will said, once everyone found a seat. Charlie sat between Will and Ry, while Billy and Trevor sat on chairs they brought in from the kitchen. Will started with Ry's case. "Amanda's father is being charged with aggravated, vehicular assault." "Why isn't he being charged with attempted murder?" Billy demanded. "There isn't enough evidence that Mr. Tangetti was actually trying to kill Ry." "He hit Ry with his car!" Billy said. "Yes," Will conceded, "but that isn't enough to prove intent to kill. Mr. Tangetti said that he wasn't trying to hit Ry and that the car lost control; however," Will said, stopping his son from interrupting again, "his blood/alcohol content was twice the legal limit, so he's definitely facing other charges, which will get his license revoked and should make a nice settlement for your brother." Billy wanted to argue more, but he knew his birth father was right. "I'm fine with it, Billy," Ry added. "He's going to prison and that should be punishment enough. Well, at least till he gets the lawsuit. Will and I already talked about this, and it's fine." Billy nodded his acceptance and couldn't wait to chew Amanda out the next day. "So, next is Charlie's case," Will continued. He saw the little boy stiffen. Will took Charlie by the hand, while Ry put an arm around him. After making sure Charlie was ready, Will explained what they had learned from Det. Jenkins, including the identity of the body pulled from Justin's house. "So, Justin killed his dad?" Trevor asked, his normally level tone giving way to one of shock. "It appears so," Will replied. "So far, the authorities don't know where Justin is or if he's wounded. All the local hospitals are on alert for him, just in case. In the meantime, I'll be taking Charlie to school and picking him up." "I can do that, Dad," Billy offered. "I appreciate that, Billy, but you can't afford to miss any more school, and there isn't a lot you can legally do if Justin shows up again. He's already proven that he's not afraid to go after Charlie in public, so I think it's best if I do this." "Does that mean I have to go to school tomorrow?" Charlie asked. "Ry still needs help." Will looked at Rick and Ry, and asked, "Is it okay if Charlie stays home for the rest of the week? After everything that's happened, especially at the school, it might be nice to give him the time to mentally recover." "I don't know," Rick said. "He's already missed so much of the school year." Though it was true, Rick also felt like it would be rewarding Charlie's awful behavior towards him. "Dad," Ry said, preparing himself, "I could use the help. I'm sure it would be better for Charlie to have a couple days off." "I'm sure I could talk to Mr. Caldwell," Will added. "I don't see him telling me no." "Fine," Rick said, a little too stiffly. To Charlie, he added, "but you're going to school on Monday and you're going to every class for the rest of the school year." Charlie didn't respond. He wanted to snap at his dad for being angry with him, but Charlie didn't want him to change his mind. "That just leaves Brenda," Will said. "I don't think we need to discuss that, Will," Rick interjected. "There's no point in upsetting anyone." Will looked at Rick and guessed the real reason he didn't want to talk about Brenda. "No," he said, flatly. "We're going to talk about this." "Not with my kids, you're not," Rick demanded. The boys shared confused and concerned looks. Everyone knew that Rick and Will weren't the best of friends, but they were still shocked by the power play before them. Will said, "They have a right to know, and as their lawyer and Billy's biological father, I have a right and duty to tell them the truth of what happened, regardless of how far in the closet you want to hide." Billy felt the color drain from his face. He reflexively grabbed Trevor's hand. Ry's eyes grew wide and he looked at his father. Charlie was also in shock at the implications but refused to look at Rick. "I'm their father, and I don't want them to hear any of it!" Rick snapped. Will looked at Rick, not with the usual cold, heartless gaze that often quelled people, but with a slight, knowing, winning, smirk. "Brenda's dead," Will said, locking eyes with Rick. "I'm warning you, Will," Rick snarled, refusing to break eye contact. "She was never pregnant," Will continued, calling Rick's bluff. "Will, I said no." Will paused to consider his words and give Rick the false impression that he wasn't going to continue. Once Rick took the bait and started to relax, Will said, "She also wanted to kill Charlie and possibly the rest of you just to have Rick all to herself." "YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Rick yelled, jumping to his feet. Rick took two very fast strides towards Will, who didn't move, but maintained his grin, but Rick wasn't fast enough. Nobody saw it coming, but they heard it. A howl of rage erupted from the middle of the couch just before Charlie swung a savage left hook into Rick's testicles. Rick crumpled instantly from the blow, grabbing himself out of instinct. It was several seconds before the punch registered, but it was too late, as Charlie jumped on Rick and began punching his father's prone face with both fists. "I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!" Charlie screamed, punctuating each syllable with a meaty fist to his father's face. "CHARLIE!" Ry yelled, trying desperately to pull the thrashing boy off of the grown man. Trevor was the next person to move. He was quick and strong but still found it difficult to subdue Charlie. "It's alright, Charlie," he said, hoping to calm him down. "You're safe now." Billy crawled to their father and saw that Ricky's nose looked broken and had a puffy right eye that was quickly swelling. "What the fuck, Charlie?" Billy snarled. "LET ME GO!" Charlie demanded, desperately trying to break free. "Not till you calm down," Trevor said, wrapping himself bodily around Charlie's upper body and legs. Trevor never cared for wrestling in middle school but was glad he had remembered a few of the holds. "You're grounded," Rick said to his youngest, still in shock over the attack. "I wish you were dead," Charlie spat. A chill filled the air. Trevor almost dropped Charlie, as the realization of the boy's words hit him. Charlie sobbed and gave up his struggle. Trevor moved himself and Charlie to Rick's chair. "Your girlfriend wanted to kill me because of you. I hate you so much. I wish you had been killed, too." "Charlie, you don't mean that," Billy said, softly, as tears fell down his own face. "Yes, I do, and I hate you, too," Charlie said, looking at his half-brother. "You're the reason Mom is in prison, and you're the reason I was raped!" "Charlie, I--" Billy stammered. "Shut up, Billy! If you hadn't fucked Dan, Mom wouldn't have attacked him. If you hadn't cheated on Ry, Justin wouldn't have met me. If Mom hadn't gone to prison, Dad wouldn't have dated Brenda. This is all your fault!" "That's not true," Billy said, half-heartedly. "Yes it is!" "That's enough, Charlie," Will said, softly. Everyone turned their heads towards Will, having forgotten he was there. Will looked at Rick and said, "Got to the hospital. Have Billy take you. When you get back, Charlie and I won't be here." Rick wanted to argue but he didn't have any fight left in him. "I'm going with you," Ry said to Will. "Alright," Will said, without asking Rick for permission. Will asked Charlie to pack a bag for himself and Ry, while Billy and Trevor took Rick back to the hospital. Once Charlie was out of earshot, Rick said to Will, "You didn't need to tell him any of that." "You're lucky that's all I said, Rick," Will said in his cold, dead tone. Billy sent his father a text a few hours later saying that Rick's nose wasn't broken but his right eye was badly bruised. He asked how Charlie was doing and if it would be alright to come by and see him. Will said he was glad that Rick wasn't badly hurt, that Charlie was still upset and that coming over wasn't a good idea quite yet, but added that Billy might be able to the next day, once Charlie had enough time to calm down. "I need to talk to the two of you," Rick said, as they walked into the house. They sat in the living room, and the boys looked nervous. "There's more to the story than Will had mentioned." Rick explained Brenda blackmailing him over the pics that Billy had sent him. "How did she even know they were from me?" Billy asked. "She said that someone sent them to her and outed you as Daddysboy12," Rick said. "That's impossible. You're the only one I ever sent pics to, and I never talked to anyone without you knowing first." "She could've been guessing," Trevor offered. "She seemed pretty psychopathic to me, and from what you all were saying before, I wouldn't put it past her." "Maybe," Rick said, though doubting it. "In any case, the police are looking into everything, seeing if there were other victims, since she wanted Charlie dead." "So that part was true?" Billy asked. He didn't want it to be, though he knew his birth father wouldn't have lied about something like that. "Yeah, unfortunately," Rick replied. "In any event, you need to delete anything and everything that connects us sexually. Every email, text and especially, pics. Everything!" "Mr. Barton," Trevor said, "I hope you don't think I had anything to do with her finding out." Rick had considered Trevor, but his problems with Brenda predated Trevor, and the boy didn't seem to have it in him to be that manipulative; besides, as Trevor had previously pointed out, he would've just reported Rick directly for having sex with Billy, so this level of cloak and dagger subterfuge didn't seem in his character. "No, Trevor," Rick said, "I don't think you had anything to do with this. But, if someone did tip her off, we have bigger problems." Trevor got permission to stay the night. He made everyone dinner, though hardly anyone ate. He, Billy and Rick sat in silence the rest of the evening till bedtime. He and Billy went to Billy's room, got undressed and Billy curled up in Trevor's arms once they were under the blankets. "Charlie is right," Billy said, as he laid next to Trevor. "It isn't your fault, Billy," Trevor said, kissing his boyfriend. "There's no way you could've known Justin was a pedophile. He hid it from everyone. If it wasn't for Charlie, Justin would still be molesting him and maybe others. Charlie was just hurting and lashing out. You can't take it personally." Billy broke down crying. He knew some of what Trevor said was true, but Charlie was also right. If he hadn't fucked around with Dan, their mom wouldn't have gone to prison. If their mom hadn't gone to prison, Brenda wouldn't have been in their lives. Had Billy not created that secret email for him and Rick, Ry never would've found it, causing their break up, which then opened the door for Justin. It also would've meant that Rick couldn't have been blackmailed by Brenda. No matter how he arranged everything, it always came down to him. He hated himself for what happened to Charlie. He loved his brother so much, even if he didn't show it all the time. Trevor held Billy till his boyfriend cried himself to sleep. ***Coming Soon, Chapter 62***
