Chapter 62 It was a lazy day. Spring break never seemed to last as long as it used to. It was unseasonably warm, as Billy and Ry laid in bed cuddling. Rick had taken Charlie to the store to get barbecue supplies, so Ry decided it was a perfect opportunity for the pair to have some alone time. Billy loved the time he was spending with Ry. He acknowledged how special their situation was, being so young, in love and living together. However, he didn't truly understand the stress of what living with his partner would be like, especially when one was disabled and both were still going through puberty. They didn't really fight, as both were too afraid to hurt the other's feelings, but they did little things, nagging things, nit-picky things that caused tension. Rick recognized this behavior immediately, and tried to explain the reality of their situation, since most adults fall into such passive-aggressive behaviors, but the boys didn't get it...or they ignored him, altogether. Rick decided to let them work things out on their own, only intervening when things were getting too stressful. But that day was a good day. "Do you want to do anything later?" Billy asked. "Like what?" Ry said, lifting his head off of Billy's naked chest to look his boyfriend in the face. "I don't know," Billy replied. "Dad said that he wasn't going to start dinner till about six, so we have until then to do what we want." "Well," Ry said, sliding a hand down Billy's stomach and under the shorts he was wearing. Billy let out a soft moan as Ry took hold of Billy's quickly dripping penis. "I'm sure we can find something to do." Billy leaned in and kissed Ry, as Ry pulled back Billy's shorts to get better access. Billy thrust his hips in time with Ry's strokes. Ry's grip was tighter than necessary. He didn't have the greatest control of his body since the accident, so Billy was thankful for his flood of pre-cum. Ry suddenly stopped and pulled away from Billy. Billy could tell by the look of fright and embarrassment that Ry had an accident. Billy gently asked, "Number one or two?" "One I think," Ry said, then closed his eyes in shame. His boyfriend leaned in and gave him a loving kiss. Billy put himself together and helped Ry into his wheelchair. Ry got himself into the hall and turned towards their dad's room, where Ry's shower bench was, but Billy stopped him. "I've got an idea if you're still feeling up to it?" Billy asked, kissing Ry on the neck. "What's that?" Ry replied. "How about we take a bath together?" Ry thought about it for a minute. He'd only taken showers while Rick was home. Billy had helped a few times, but only under supervision. What Billy wanted to do would require the 12-year-old to undress him, and help him in and out of the bathtub in the boy's bathroom. "I don't know, Billy. I think Dad would get pissed." "We'll be in and out before he gets home," Billy reasoned, then he pleaded, "Come on! It would be nice to hold you in the tub. You leaning against me, my arms wrapped around you. It would be so nice." "Fine," Ry relented. He did like where Billy's mind was going. Billy barely managed to get Ry's wheelchair through the narrow doorway. It was a small room when it was just him and Charlie, but Billy managed to get around the wheelchair and transfer Ry to the toilet, next to the tub. Thankfully, Ry only wet himself, so it was much less of a mess when Billy removed the diaper. While Ry finished undressing and cleaning himself up a little, Billy drew the bath water and got undressed himself. It was a challenge to get Ry into the tub, but Billy was able to get Ry in with minimal water on the floor. Once Ry seemed settled, Billy said, "Shit. I forgot to get us towels." "Well, you better get some," Ry said, pushing his floating legs down with no real effect. "Are you sure? I don't want to leave you alone." "I'll be fine," Ry said, annoyed. Even though he wore diapers, he was tired of being treated like a baby. "Get the towels before everyone gets home, will ya?" "Alright," Billy said, as he went into the hall. He went to the linen closet between his room and Rick's and grabbed two towels. He paused for a second and heard his phone ringing from his room. He decided that he'd see who it was really quick in case it was an emergency. By the time he reached it, the ringing had ended. It was from his other father, Will, so Billy sent him a text asking what he wanted. He got an immediate response, and Will asked if he could come over; he had some good news he wanted to tell everyone in person. Billy said yes and that Rick was grilling burgers for dinner. CRASH! The sound had come from the bathroom next door and sounded like shampoo bottles hitting the floor. Billy dropped his phone and ran next door. Once Billy left the bathroom, Ry continued to push his legs down. It annoyed him that his useless limbs floated. He gave another shove and the momentum of his upper body and buoyancy of his lower body caused Ry's body to slide down too much. Ry slid down under the water and flat on his back, his head completely submerged. Even though he knew he was only about two inches from the surface, he couldn't lift his head enough to get above the water line. He tried grabbing at the sides, but they were too slick with water. His legs didn't work, so he could push himself back up either. He was going to drown. Ry panicked and started thrashing around, sloshing water all over the place. He tried rolling over to do a push up out of the water, but he couldn't twist his body. His lungs burned as he desperately tried holding his breath, unwilling to give up his life after all he had been through and all he had gained. Where the fuck is Billy? He screamed in his head. Ry felt a shampoo bottle and did his best to fling it. He knocked it on the floor, and he heard its muffled thud. Within a few seconds, Ry heard Billy run into the bathroom, a huge crash followed quickly by a large bang against the tub and his boyfriend screaming. Water started to seep into his sinuses, as his lungs began to give up. His vision started to darken as the bath water poured down his throat. Just before everything went black, a hand grabbed the back of his head and pulled it about the roiling surface. Ry choked and coughed up the water, and looked into the scared face of his dad. He could hear his brothers crying, as Rick finished pulling him out of the tub and into his lap. "Breathe, baby. Come on. Breathe for me," Rick said, cradling his son. Ry took a shallow breath and coughed up more water. "That's it. Come on, baby boy. A deeper breath this time." Ry took a deeper breath and this time nothing came up. "Good boy, Ry," Rick said. He held the naked boy against him and kissed him probably too much, but he didn't know what else to do. Ry looked around at the chaos. If he hadn't just nearly drowned, he would've found the situation almost humorous. He was naked and wet in Rick's arms. Billy was also naked, but he was on the floor, against the tub, holding his quickly swelling ankle, and water was all over the place. The only thing that kept him from laughing was poor little Charlie, who was curled up in a ball, crying hysterically in the hallway. Ry knew that the incident had triggered his baby brother's PTSD. "Charlie," Ry said in a raspy voice. "I'm okay, Buddy. I'm okay." It was no use. Charlie only sobbed more. Billy watched Will pull up and walk through the front door. His dad's face went from joy to shock to concern within seconds. "Oh my," was all Will said, surveying the scene before him. Ry and Billy were on the couch. Ry was holding a frozen bag of peas on Billy's swollen ankle. Rick was in his chair with Charlie, who passed out and sucking on his thumb, something Will knew Charlie only started doing recently whenever his PTSD was triggered. "What happened?" Rick told the events to Will, who maintained his expression, as he took a seat next to Ry. Billy looked at his dads and saw the same look of disappointment. He looked at Ry, who was avoiding eye contact with everyone. "So," Rick asked, "What brings you, Will?" "I have some good news, actually, but it seems rather inappropriate now," Will said. "I think we could use some good news," Rick pressed. "Okay. First, I won my lawsuit against Dan Clark." "Congratulations," Rick said. After seeing his co-father in action the last time they were in court, Rick figured that Will did something shady to get the case settled quickly. "Thank you," Will said. "This means I basically got Dan's property for free. I've started putting the houses on the market, so hopefully, I can double my investment, which will go to Billy, of course." "Thanks, Dad," Billy said. "How soon can I spend it?" "When you either go to college or turn 24, whichever comes first." "Damn it," Billy said, getting a scolding from Rick about his language. "What's your other piece of good news?" Rick asked. "Well, I haven't received the official judgment yet, but I did get a call from a friend of mine, who said that my conviction was overturned, so as of right now, I have no crimes against our son." "That's awesome, Dad!" "I still have a conviction, which will never be overturned, but you are no longer considered my victim." "I'm glad things have worked out for you," Rick said. "Thank you, Rick," Will said, "That means a lot." "I know we haven't always gotten along, and most of it was my fault--" "--What are you talking about? You've been a prince," Will said, cheekily. Billy and Ry both snorted with laughter, as Rick continued, "Anyway. I'm sorry for how I acted towards you." "Water under the bridge," Will said. He looked at Ry and Billy then asked, "Too soon?" Both boys booed him. "Well," Rick said, "You're not the only one with news. I was hoping to save this for another time, but after what happened today, I think it's better to say it now: I found another house." "Where at?" Billy asked. "Washington." "State? D.C.?" Ry asked. "No, city. Two hours north of here. I was given the option of transferring when I got my promotion last summer, but I held off, because I didn't want to uproot everyone; however, after everything that's happened this past year, I think we all need a fresh start." "What about Mom?" Billy asked. He knew that Washington was just that much further from where his mother was incarcerated. "We'd still see her if you and Charlie want. Instead of doing day trips, we'd probably have to do overnight visits," Rick said. "Speaking of your mother, we need to update your visitation form with your new name, and we know she won't be happy about it." "I know," Billy said. "Can we see her this weekend, so I can talk to her about it?" "Yeah, Buddy, I think that would be for the best, and we can get your name change done then." "Washington will make things difficult for visits," Will said, a note of sadness to his voice. "Well," Rick said, "Since Billy is no longer your victim, I don't see why you can't have overnight visits every other weekend. It would give the love birds a break from each other, too." Billy and Ry rolled their eyes at their dad's poor humor. "That sounds fair," Will said. "I wouldn't mind having the other two, as well, so you can have a break every once in a while." "I'll think about it, but let's start with Billy first." Dinner was very rushed but fun. Charlie was told about the move to Washington. He wasn't too happy about it, since it meant leaving his friends and house behind, but he started to warm up to the idea more after talking about all the places Washington had that they didn't have where they were now. After Will left and Charlie was put to bed, Rick asked to speak to his other two boys. Billy looked worried, while Ry looked frightened. Rick sat across from the boys and said, "We need to have a proper talk about what happened earlier." The boys started their pleas of apology, but their dad shut them down. "Enough," Rick said, and the pair got quiet. "I didn't necessarily want to say this in front of Will and Charlie, but part of my reason for moving us to Washington was to find a house that would work for Ry's disabilities. This house isn't designed for his needs, and I think it would be best to find one that does." "So, we're moving because of me," Ry said, sadly. Rick took Ry's hand and gave it a little squeeze. "Yes, but not because of anything bad or what you've done...though this afternoon didn't really help." To both of his sons, he said, "I'm not mad at either of you for what happened, but I am greatly disappointed. Billy, I hope you've learned that Ry cannot be left alone like that until he can use his legs, and Ry, I hope you've learned that, when we're watching you, it isn't because we love you and don't want anything to happen, like what occurred earlier. I know I've learned that I need help with you, Ry, which is why I'm looking at a nurse to come during the day, and Billy, I've learned that I should've explained the dangers better, which is why you're going to take a more active role in helping with Ry." "I'm sorry," Ry said, tears falling down his cheeks. Rick dropped to his knees and pulled his eldest into his arms. Rick knew that the abuse he suffered still had a hold on Ry. Ry shook from high strung nerves due to the stress of the conversation, so Rick did the best he could to reassure his son that everything was going to be okay. After having Billy help with Ry's bedtime routine, Rick put his sons to bed. He kissed each of them good night and closed the door behind him. Billy pulled his boyfriend into his arms and kissed him. "I'm so, so sorry about earlier." "So am I," Ry said, kissing his brother back. "Is Dad always like that when something bad happens?" "Pretty much," Billy said, with a heavy sigh. "Good," Ry said, nuzzling his face into Billy's chest. He fell quickly asleep, happy once more for his new life. ***Coming Soon, Chapter 63***
