HERO Chapter One To say that Alex Marquez was in trouble was more then a slight understatement. For the last three yeats the fourteen year old had been hiding from a secret that he had tried desperately to hide. But now it had caught up to him. He was currently standing backed againt the dark and dusty wall at the back of the school gymnasium. School had ended for the day over an hour and a half ago so the building was empty except for two people. One of them being Alex, the other being a man aged in his late twenties, the man stood at close to six feet, had a clean shaven head. Alex had not seen this man for the last two years, and he had been hoping that he would never have to again. Unfortunately someone in the justice system had fucked up majorly. And now Alex stood all alone facing his father in an empty building, and his father was holding a gun. Alex could only stand there staring at the man that he had tried desperately to have locked away for a hell of a lot longer then just two years. After all he had been certain that the man would get life for killing both of Alex's brothers. Alex was breathing heavily as he took a look around himself to try and figure out whether there was anything that he could do. Finding absolutely nothing of any use to him Alex realised that it was time for him to just accept the inevitable. But there was one thing that made Alex slightly curious. Why hadnt his dad killed him yet. Ryan Maequez was just standing there holding the gun. He hadnt really said anything since he had appeared in front of Alex. Ryan appeared to be in deep thought, and he sure as hell wasnt in any great hurry. So Alex tried to take a chance and see if he could stall him. "So dad how'd you find me." Ryan seemed to almost gag in laughter. "You didn't actually think that you could hide from me did you." Ryan had a smirk on his face that made Alex more then slightly uneasy. "Well you know I thought that was the whole idea of the witness protection program." It was true that the federal police had given Alex a whole new identity and had moved him far far away from where he used to live. To another country in fact. But even before his dad replied he was pretty cerain of what the answer was going to be. "yeah well it helped that I have friends in that agency." This information didnt really suprise Alex but it did piss him off. He had been placed into the witness protection program, pretty much against his will. He had wanted to keep his old life, his old friends. But the police had insisted upon it. And now to discover that somone inside had leaked his whereabouts. If by any chance Alex was to survive this, he would make sure that heads would roll. As the minutes passed without Ryan doing anything except holding the gun, it was starting to get on Alex's nerves. "So Dad here Iam, heres youre chance to finish the job." Ryan seemed slightly startled by this comment. So Alex finished. "What are you waiting for." A truly evil smirk came over Ryans face as he glared at Alex. The smirk caused Alex's blood to go frozen cold. It told him that there was more to his fathers plot. And he didnt like this realisation one little bit. Ryan paused for a few moments and then he took a slow look around himself. This action caused Alex to sub-consciously do the same. He didnt see anything out of the ordinary. When Alex looked back at Ryan he saw that he had a mobile phone in his hand, "Well come on Alex. It wouldnt be truly finished until all of you were dead." Alex could feel all of the blood drain out of his face. There was no way that he could have found him surely. "What do you mean." Instead of replying Ryan dialled a number into his phone and waits. Although it only takes a matter of seconds, tp Alex it seems like hours. Finally there is obviously an answer, because Ryan says quite simply. "Bring him in." Alex stops breathing as he realises that his worst nightmare may be about to come true. "But.....wait...." Ryan had hung up the phone and now he had an evil sadistic smile on his face as he gloated. "Yes thats right, I found Tristan as well. All though I must admit he was harder to find then you were," Suddenly without warning the lights in the gymnasium went out and the room was thrown into complete darkness. Both Ryan and Alex were thrown into complete shock by this, but the sound that Alex heard next was even more confusing. It sounded like the whirring noise that a cord makes going through a reel. It was a noise that sounded socompletely out of place in the gymnasium. Alex couldnt see anything in the darkness but he could sense movement from next to him, at first he though it was Ryan. But then he heard a voice whisper in his ear in what seemed to be a disguised voice. "Dont scream just grab onto my arm." And then he felt a strong arm wrap around his shoulder. Afraid at first but then raking a risk Alex wrapped both of his arms around the strangers body. Without warning Alex felt himself being raised up as the whirring sound returned as Alex realised that the stranger must have been attached to some sort of bungee rope. This made Alex more then slightly curious as to how he had gotten in without either him or Ryan realising. This thought made Alex look down to try and see where his father was. He saw a dark figure that he could only figure was Ryan moving towards the gymnasium entrance. They were going up at quite a high speed. Then suddenly they jolted to a halt as he felt his savious adjust something on the rope and then they swung slowly in a clockwise direction. Alex was unsure as to what the other person was doing but was willing to at least for the moment trust him to do the right thing. Alex looked down again in time to see Ryan pop open the power box and start flicking at switches. The room was immediately bathed in light again as Ryan managed to find the right switch. Alex looked on in horror as his dad looked up towards the ceiling and spotted the pair headed toward what Alex now realised was an open window that led out onto the gym roof. Just before they managed to make it through the window but Ryan fired off a single shot from his pistol. Alex instantly jolted to the left to avoid the bullet. But unfortunately his savious didnt move quickly enough as he let out a loud gasp as the bullet connected with his right shoulder. His grip on Alex loosened slightly as he screamed out in pain. Alex for a moment thought that he was going to drop him. But then the guy seemed to regain his composure as he swung Alex and himself out of the window and onto the roof. Once they were safely on the roof the man who was wearing a ski mask. Like the ones robbers use. With holes cut out for his eyes and his mouth, started to unclip the bungee ropes. "But wont we need those to get down." Almost before Alex finished saying the words he realised that it was a stupid question as it was easy to see that this had been well planned out. Which posed the question how did this guy know about his dad. Alex looked out off the roof of the gymnasium as his new friend picked up a seperate rope that was lying accross the roof and seemed to be connected to something placed on the ground just outside of the school grounds. Next to the clip on the ground was parked a dark blue Cherokee. Alex assumed that the car belonged to the man. "All right Alex weve got to climb down along the rope. I can carry you if you want, ut try not to touch my right shoulder." The voice was still cloaked, Alex could tell it was some type of voice modifier that he assumed was attached to the inside of the mask. Alex didnt really understand why this guy was making such a massive effort to cover up his identity. But at least for the moment he didnt really care. All that he cared about was that he needed to get into that car. Before Ryan figured out where they were going. Alex just nodded his head at the other person to indicate that he understood and grabbed on as tightly as he could while avoiding the injured shoulder. Once Alex was securely gripped around him, his hero started to slowly lower them onto the eope and began a slow descent towards the groung. While he knew that they had to take it slowly for several good reasons, the journet seemed to Alex to be taking for hours. He looked down at the ground as they continued their descent, and all he saw was emptiness, even though it was only half past five in the evening it was already dark, and it looked as though there was a threat of rain, so the streets surrounding the school were empty. Which realistically at the moment was a good thing because otherwise it may have been a slightly weitd sight. Alex could hear the labored breaths of his saviour and new that he must have been in immense pain. Finally the pair reached the ground and Alex was lowered down so that he could stand up, before the other guy stood up slowly and grasped onto his wounded shoulder. The pair took a quick look around themselves before the cloaked voice said. "Get in the car Alex." Alex didnt hesitate this time as he opened the door and jumped in. The other guy looked around again before he jumped behind the wheel and starting the engine. Just as the driver threw the car into gear the doors of the gymnasium burst open and after a second Ryan emerged with another guy, about the same age. But Ryan was holding ni front of him a young boy. "Oh shit." Alex said it in almost a whisper. "Dont worry about it." Alex stared at his companion like he had lost his mind,. "What do you mean dont worry about it. Hes got Tristan." Alex was referring to his 10 year old brother. The car started to speed away as Alex was nearly in tears. "You have to go back. Hes going to kill him." But the driver showed no signs of slowing down. Alex turned in his seat. "Hey arsehole stop the fucking car. Thats my brother." Alex lunged at the steering wheel when he saw that he waasnt going to turn around. The driver just grabbed Alex's arm and took it off the wheel. He didnt do it forcefully. "Alex youre brother will be safe. But I have to get you to safety." Alex realised that he was fighting a pointless battle, and gave up. He sat back in his seat and prayed that Tristan would be okay. But his gut told him that he might not be. And Alex hated it when his gut told him things like that. As the jeep sped through the city Alex looked out at tall of the passing cars and wondered for about the hundredth time in the last thirty minutes, just who the hell this guy was. "Can you take off youre mask, please." It sounded so stupid to Alex but he decided it was worth a try. But the other guy just shook his head and replied. "No Alex its safer if you dont kno0w who I am. Just know that I will protect you from here on out." This statement reassured Alex quite a bit. After all the effort that this guy had put in to get Alex out of danger, he felt that he could trust him. After the pair had been driving for about fifteen minutes, the driver began to slow the car down as they turned into a suburb that Alex didnt recognise, it was a small back-water suburb, one that A;ex knew was going to be used for the intention of hiding him. Alex looked back over at the driver and again saw him grab at his shoulder, in obvious pain. Alex frowned as he said quietly. "Are you going to be okay." The driver seemed suprised by the concern that Alex was showing for him, and Alex could sense a lighter tone as the guy replied. "Yeah I will be fine. After I drop you off, I will be going to see my doctor. Dont worry about me." This stunned Alex slightly at the suggestion that he was going to be dropped off. "Where are you taking me." At that the driver turned on his indicator and Alex saw where he was going. The pair turned into the well lit driveway of what appeared to be a small motel. Alex was instantly confused. But before he could ask any questions the driver turned off the engine and turned in his seat to face Alex. "Okay Alex you are safe now. I need you to go inside and go to reception. There is a guy on called Pedro. Tell him the following code. AM14. He will look after you until I come back." Alex didnt move for a few moments as he registered what he had just been told. Then he asked. "But the police couldnt protect me. One of them leeked who I was to my dad..." Before he could finish what he was going to say, Alex was interupted. "Alex trust me Im not the police, I dont work with the police. P ersonally I think the cops are all a bunch of corrupt bastards who should rot in hell." Alex was more then slightly suprised by this. If this guy had nothing to do with the cops, then who the hell was he. But Alex had realised that he wasnt going to get that information out of this guy, so he decided to just trust him for now. "So when will I see you again.... Will I ever see you again." The other guy seemed to think about it for a while before he replied. "I will send someone around to check on you in about 36 hours. Now go and remember AM14. And there will be a suprise waiting inside for you." Alex nodded his head slowly as he opened the car door, just before he closed it he said. "Thanks for everything. I dont know who you are, or why you did what you did. But thankyou." The driver only nodded as Alex closed the car door. Alex began to walk up the driveway towards the entrance of the motel. When he was about half way up he turned back around and glanced at the jeep still parked there. He assumed waiting to make sure that he got inside okay. Alex reached the front door and rang the doorbell. There was a pause of about a minute before the front door was finally opened. A man in his mid twenties stood in front of Alex, he looked oddly familiar, but Alex couldnt quite place where he knew him from. The man looked Alex up and down and waited for Alex to speak. "AM14" Alex felt kind of silly saying the code seen cas he had no idea as to what it meant. But as soon as he had said it the mans face lit up. He held the door wide open for Alex to step inside, As soon as the front door closed behind the pair. Inside the car, the man sighed a deep breath of relief. He grabbed his mobile phone out of his pocket, and while dialling in a number, he took off the ski mask. Once the call was answered hye spoke in a boyish voice which befitted his looks. The man appeared to be only eighteen or so. "AM14 is secure. It was slightly harder then I expected but it was accomplished." There was a slight pause on the other end of the phone before another young voice replied. "Okay thats good to hear babe. Are you on youre way home." The man in the jeep looked at his shoulder again as he replied. "Yeah A.K I'm about to head off now. But be warned I sustained a bit of an injury that I'm gonna need you to take a look at." He could sense the worry in his partners voice, but in the end what could he do. He hung up the phone and started the engine. Meanwhile inside the motel Alex was being led by this man towards what he guessed was the reception area. Neither had spoken a word since leaving the front door. But Alex was taking in his surroundings. While not huge this motel as definitely of reasonable size. He had seen a few other patrons, but the thing that he found most suprising was that all of the ones that he had seen were all boys under the age of probably fifteen. The pair arrivied in the reception and the man moved around behind a desk. "Okay Alex Marquez. My name is Richard Campbell and I am in charge of Asteros Villa. If you are wondering what this place is. It was established by the HERO clan. To house their targets for as long as necessary." Alex went to ask any one of a hundred questions. But Richard put up his hand. "The time for questions is later. For now just know that you are safe." Alex relaxed slightly. Richard went about filling out paper work. Finally he looked up at Alex and said with a smile. "Okay, here the boys share a room with another person. You're room has been pre-selected." Alex slightly frowned at this. But that frown changed pretty quickly when Richard said. "You're roommate was going to be a suprise, But he hasnt given us a moments peace since we arrived. So if you'll follow me." This comment had Alex totally bewidered. But then when Richard opened a door off to the side. It all made sense. How he knew Richard, why his room had been pre-selected. Standing on the other side of the door was the smiling face of Tristan. His baby brother." Tristan never missed a beat as he leapt into Alex's arms. WELL THATS IT FOR CHAPTER ONE. I HOPE THAT YOU THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT. I WILL BE TRYING TO POST CHAPTER TWO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. UNTIL NEXT TIME, PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND ME ANY COMMENTS THAT YOU MAY HAVE. THANKYOU VERY MUCH.
