I'm the dandy highwayman who you're too scared to mention I spend my cash on looking flash and grabbing your attention The devil take your stereo and your record collection Oh-oh The way you look you'll qualify for next year's old age pension." Young Robin sang along as the song by Adam and the Ants blasted out of the radio. He smiled as he recalled how sexy Adam Ant looked dressed as a highwayman in the video he'd seen on Top of the Pops. "Stand and deliver, your money or your life..." He sang louder. Then his mother threw his bedroom door open and shouted, "For Pete's sake, turn that thing off. I can't hear myself think!" "Sorry, Mum." Robin hurriedly turned his transistor radio off. Jean sighed. "Maybe you can read a book or something until the rain goes off." As she left the room, she muttered to herself, "I don't know how I'm going to manage during the long school holiday." Jean was a single mother. She had only been fifteen when she conceived Robin - the result of a holiday romance in France. Jean was above the legal age of consent for sex in France but too young to marry the father, a seventeen year old student named Alain. Both parents agreed that marriage was out of the question but they allowed Jean and Alain to keep in touch by letter. As time passed, letters became less frequent but Alain sent money and presents for Robin once he started work. Robin had been told nothing of his father. As luck would have it, Jean received a letter from Alain that same day. She was surprised to read that Alain wanted to meet Robin. "He's twelve now so I think he is old enough to meet me," Alain had written. "I will never have another child and I really would like to get to know him. Don't worry - I will keep my lifestyle a secret from him." Jean frowned. Alain had told her many years earlier that their brief affair had been doomed to failure because he had always been more attracted to boys than to girls. "I will be visiting England next month. Please say that you will allow me to see my son and spend some time with him," Alain went on. Jean considered the matter for some time before deciding to agree to the meeting. Her father had passed away a few years earlier and she felt that Robin needed some male influence in his life. She shouted upstairs. "Robin, come down here. We need to talk." Moments later Robin entered the living room. "What have I done wrong now?" he asked. "Nothing. Sit down." Jean smiled and waited until Robin was settled. "I have received a letter from your father." "My father? You know where he is?" Robin looked puzzled. "You told me it was somebody you'd met on holiday and never saw again." Jean nodded. "We haven't met since that summer all those years ago but we exchanged regular letters for a while. He went to university shortly after you were born and then we drifted apart. He has sent money and occasional presents for you and I've sent him photos of you every year." "Why did you never tell me any of this before?" Robin asked. "It was difficult to explain why you had a father you couldn't see," replied Jean. Robin scratched his head. "So why are you telling me now?" "He's coming to England next month and he wants to see you," said Jean. "Do you want to meet him?" "Of course, I want to meet him!" Robin answered. "Tell me all about him." Jean smiled to herself as she recalled her short time with Alain. "He's two years older than me so he'll be thirty now. He's tall, over 6 foot, with blond hair and I thought he was absolutely gorgeous." She gave a little laugh. "He's probably changed a lot since then. I used to have an old black and white photo of us together but I don't know what happened to it." "Does he speak English?" Robin asked. "You know I won't start learning French at school until next term." "He speaks English very well. He started speaking to me because he wanted to practice," replied Jean. "He studied English at university and I think he teaches it now." Robin nodded. "Okay. When exactly is he coming?" Jean found the letter and quickly read through it. "He arrives in London on twenty-second of June and he hopes to travel here to Manchester on the afternoon of Friday the twenty-sixth." She looked at Robin and said, "He plans to spend the weekend here and then travel home on the Monday." "That's great," grinned Robin. "Okay. I'll write back to him today," said Jean. "I'll ask him to phone once he knows which train he is on and we can meet him at Piccadilly station." *** The weeks dragged for Robin but finally the big day arrived. He insisted on being at the station long before the London train was due and was then frustrated when there was an announcement saying it would be fifteen minutes late. "Calm down, Robin," his mother told. "Fifteen minutes is nothing." Finally Alain's train pulled into the station. Jean and Robin stood by the gate looking for a tall, blond man. They didn't have long to wait before a man they soon knew to be Alain strode towards them with a big smile on his face. "It's good to see you again, Jean. And you are obviously Robin. I'm very happy to meet you." Alain smiled as he looked from one to the other. Suddenly Jean moved forward and hugged Alain. "It's good to see you too after all these years," she said. "You've hardly changed." "Neither have you." Alain gave Jean a soft squeeze. Jean laughed as she pulled away. "You are still a flatterer, Alain. That's definitely not true. Anyway I'm proud to present your son, Robin. He's a good boy. Clever too, just like you." Robin smiled and held out his hand. "I've been looking forward to meeting you..." He wasn't sure how to address the man. Alain smiled as he looked down at Robin. The boy had his blond hair and blue eyes but at 140 cm (4ft 7in) it was possible that he would be short like his mother. Alain bent down and wrapped his arms around Robin. "I'm very happy to meet you at last. I've wanted to see you in person for a very long time." Robin closed his eyes and enjoyed the feeling of being hugged by the tall, handsome Frenchman. He smelled cologne and thought it was lovely. Alain smiled as he straightened up. "I've booked into a hotel just around the corner. Let me drop my luggage there and then we can chat." "You're looking very formal, very smart," Jean responded as they walked to the hotel. "I had to dress this way for the conference," Alain explained. "I'll change into something more casual." "No need to change for us," said Jean. "I like seeing you in a suit. As I remember, you spent much of the time in shorts and short-sleeved shirts when we first knew each other." "Those were great days," smiled Alain. "I'm sorry things didn't end well." Jean shook her head. "I ended up with a lovely son so I have no regrets." "Where do you live?" Robin asked. "In Paris," replied Alain. "You and Jean - I mean, your mother - should visit me sometime." "I'd love to visit Paris," smiled Robin. "Maybe one day," said Jean. They arrived at the hotel and Jean and Robin sat in comfortable big armchairs in the lobby while Alain checked in and then took his bags to his room. "He's nice. I like him," Robin told his mother. "That's good," said Jean. "I think he looks great in a suit." "His hair is long for a teacher but he is a very handsome man," Robin responded. "Do I take after him or my beautiful Mum?" Jean laughed. "You're a flatterer like him! Actually I think you do look a lot like him." "I hope you will both join me for dinner," Alain said when he rejoined the others. "Now though we should have a drink and get to know each other better." He gave Robin a big smile. Robin blushed but he didn't know why. "What would you like to drink?" Alain asked. "A Coke, please," said Robin. Jean smiled. "I think I'd like a Dubonnet. I remember Mum often had one of those before dinner when we were in France." "Coming right up." Alain smiled and headed off to the bar. "You still have happy memories of France?" Robin asked his mother. "Many happy memories," replied Jean. "Although there was hell to pay when my parents discovered I was pregnant. We were in Nice, on the south coast not far from the Italian border. Dad worked on the railways so he qualified for cheap tickets." "You went all that way by train?" Robin asked. "Yes. Ordinary people never thought of flying then," replied Jean. "We rented a small apartment and it was the best holiday ever." Alain returned with the drinks on a tray at that point. "Here you go," he said as he gave Jean and Robin their glasses. He then sat down and picked up his own drink, a pint of lager. "A toast to our reunion, Jean, and to meeting you, Robin," he said. "Cheers, Alain." Jean raised her glass and then took a sip. Alain took a big mouthful of lager. "I needed that," he said when he placed his glass back on the table. "It has been a busy few days." "Still teaching?" Jean asked. "Yes, but I'm head of the English department in my school so I have other duties as well," replied Alain. "What are you doing these days?" "I'm the manageress of a shoe shop. Nothing glamorous," smiled Jean. "A lot of responsibility though. You've done well," said Alain. "How about you, Robin? Getting on well at school?" Robin shrugged. "I'm doing okay." "Don't be so modest, Robin," said Jean. She turned to Alain and said, "He did really well in his exams this week and he had the leading role in the school play at Christmas." "What was that? A nativity play?" Alain asked. Robin grinned. "Those are for kids. No, it was a comedy written by my teacher." "He sang as well as acted," said Jean. "He was really good." "You're biased," Robin said, blushing slightly. "I wish I'd seen you on stage," said Alain. "I'll come over if you take part in another play." Robin smiled and Alain went on. "I hope we can spend time together tomorrow. What do you normally do on a Saturday?" "I usually go swimming," replied Robin. "Would you like to come with me tomorrow morning?" After asking the question, Robin suddenly thought about seeing Alain semi-naked and his cock stirred. "I'd love to," smiled Alain. "I didn't bring my swim-briefs with me but I can buy a pair." "Great! I'll come to the hotel and take you shopping," said Robin. "I know a department store which has a good selection of swimwear." Alain nodded and was about to speak when Robin's stomach started grumbling. He smiled and said, "Someone is obviously hungry. I think we should finish our drinks and go for dinner." "Sorry about the noise," said Robin. "I was too excited to eat much at lunchtime." Alain was pleased to hear that his son had been excited to meet him but didn't comment for fear of embarrassing him. "Shall we eat here in the hotel? The restaurant is very good, I understand." Jean frowned. "I don't know. It's quite expensive." "I'm paying and I don't care what it costs," declared Alain. "This is a momentous occasion. I'm with my son for the first time." Robin grinned. "And I'm with my father for the first time. That's two reasons to celebrate!" Jean laughed. "I don't think that's really two reasons but I'm more than happy to eat here." Alain drained his glass and turned to Robin. "Ready?" Robin finished his drink and replied, "Yes, Dad." He blushed immediately and asked, "Is it okay if I call you Dad?" "Of course." Alain smiled and added, "Son." They had a leisurely and very enjoyable meal in the hotel restaurant. Alain wasn't in a hurry for the evening to end so he suggested that they return to bar for a nightcap. While there, he suggested that Jean and Robin visit him during the school summer holidays. "I can show you the sights of Paris and then we can go south to Nice for a week or so." He smiled at Robin and said, "Did you know that your mother and I met in Nice?" "Yes. She told me," replied Robin. Jean knew she couldn't afford such an expensive foreign holiday or take a lot of time off work. "That sounds like a lovely idea but it's impossible for me get more than a few days off work then. Perhaps we can come to Paris for a few days during the half-term break in October." "Aw, Mum!" Robin pouted. "Maybe..." Alain paused. "Would you allow Robin to visit me on his own? I'd be happy to collect him and then bring him back?" "Yeah!" A huge grin appeared on Robin's face. "Say yes, Mum. Please!" "I don't know. Let me think for a moment." Jean looked from Robin to Alain while she thought. The pair seemed to be getting on very well and it would solve her babysitting problem for at least part of school break. Finally she nodded. "If you haven't changed your minds by the end of this weekend visit, then okay." Alain and Robin looked at each other and smiled. "We won't change our minds," they said at the same time." Jean smiled, happy that the pair had `clicked'. *** Robin picked out a pair of dark blue low-cut speedos for Alain when they went shopping the next morning. He wanted to see as much of the man's body as possible. Alain was used to seeing skimpy swimwear on French beaches so he was happy to wear what Robin chose for him. They changed in separate cubicles at the swimming pool and Robin gasped when he saw his father wearing only speedos. His eyes took in the broad, muscular chest, the strong thighs and then focused on the large bulge in the front of the speedos. He swallowed and his little cock started to grow. He quickly turned, saying, "This way to the pool." Alain thought Robin was cute but he didn't have any sexual thoughts about him until the boy turned, allowing him to see the bubble-butt stretching his swimsuit. "No, don't even go there," he said to himself. "He's too young and he's your son." Robin kept two steps ahead of Alain because he didn't want to risk the man seeing that he was aroused. This however made matters worse for Alain because he couldn't take his eyes off Robin's bum. It took a lot of willpower to avoid him getting an erection. Both were glad to slip into the cool water of the swimming pool. Two other boys shouted out to Robin and then swam towards Robin. "I go to school with them. We usually meet here on Saturday mornings," Robin told Alain. "I told them about you coming this weekend." "Hi Robin. Is this your dad?" the dark-haired boy asked when he reached them. Robin smiled. "Yes, it is." He turned to Alain and said, "That's Adam and this is Simon." "Bonjour," said Simon. "Ah, très bien. Tu parles Français. Enchanté," responded Alain. Simon blushed and the other two boys laughed. "I think `bonjour' is the only French word he knows," explained Robin. Alain smiled. "Then it's lucky I speak English. It's nice to meet two of Robin's friends." The two boys smiled but didn't know what else to say. "See you later," Adam said and swam away, with Simon following him. "I seem to have scared your friends away," said Alain. Robin smiled. "That's okay. I just want to be with you today. Come on. I'll race you to the other end and back." The pair spent a happy time in the water and Robin managed to avoid getting an erection as they walked back to the changing rooms. "What do you normally do after swimming?" Alain asked as he picked up two towels. "I have lunch in the cafe here with my friends and then I go to granny's house until Mum finishes work," replied Robin. "Granny knows that I'm with you today." "Your friends seem to have gone home but we can have lunch together and then find something else to do," suggested Alain. "I'd like that," smiled Robin. "See you in a few minutes," he said as he collected his outdoor clothes from the locker and headed for a cubicle." Robin couldn't help remembering how sexy Alain looked as he got changed while Alain was thinking about how he could entertain the boy during the afternoon. Alain wasn't impressed by the choice of snack available in the cafe but he took pie, beans and chips because that was what Robin ordered. He didn't criticise the meal but told Robin he was looking forward to introducing him to French food. It was raining when they left the sports centre. "Oh. I don't think a visit to Heaton Park is a good idea now," said Robin. Alain nodded. "You're right. How about going to the cinema? The new James Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only" should be showing in a cinema here." "That's a good idea. I love James Bond films," said Robin. "And I know where that one is being shown. It's not far from here." "Lead the way, son," smiled Alain. Robin grinned at being called son. It didn't take long to reach the cinema. Alain asked if Robin wanted popcorn. "No, thanks. It's too soon after lunch," said Robin. "Actually I don't like popcorn much. Mum and I rarely eat anything at the cinema." They took their seats and shortly afterwards the lights dimmed. Advertisements were followed by trailers for upcoming releases. Robin sat up straighter when the trailer for "Clash of the Titans" came on. Harry Hamlin was showing quite a lot of flesh in his role as Perseus and Alain noticed that Robin was staring at the screen with his mouth open. "Would you like to see that movie?" Alain whispered to Robin as the trailer ended. "Definitely!" replied Robin. "That actor is very good-looking, isn't he?" Robin would have made that comment to his mum without thinking twice but he immediately regretted saying it to Alain. Robin was relieved when Alain just smiled and said, "He is very handsome." It struck him that his son might be gay but then he quickly dismissed the idea. "That was a great film, Dad. So much action," Robin said as they left the cinema. `Yes, there were some wonderful special effects," agreed Alain. "I loved the ski chase." Robin checked his watch. "Mum will be finishing work soon. Shall we go and meet her?" "That's a good idea," said Alain. "It would be nice to see where she works." Jean was pleased to see Robin and Alain enter the shop. "I didn't expect to see you here," she said. "I wanted to see where you work," responded Alain. "It's a nice place," he added as he looked around. "We've just been to see the new James Bond film. It was great," Robin told his mum. "I know it's almost closing time. Is it too late for me to buy a pair of shoes?" Alain asked. "They are cheaper here than in Paris." "The girls are about to leave but I'm happy to serve you," Jean replied. "What kind of shoes would you like?" They left the shop a short time later, Alain happy with his new shoes and Jean happy at having made a sale. "Do you have any plans for dinner?" Jean asked Alain. "I could cook something." "Actually I'd like to try the famous British fish and chips," replied Alain. "Yeah! There's a great chippy not far from our house," smiled Robin. "Problem solved. Let's get the bus," said Jean. "That was...interesting," Alain said when he finished his plate of cod, chips and mushy peas. "Interesting?" Jean smiled. "I know it's far from the French style but didn't you like it?" Alain laughed. "Actually it was tasty. I wouldn't want it too often but I would eat it again." "I suppose you like snails, frogs' legs and lots of garlic," said Robin. "Well, I'm not keen on snails," smiled Alain. "If - I mean when - you come to France I will show you the wonderful variety of French food." "Can't wait," grinned Robin. "More tea, Alain?" Jean asked. "No, thanks. I should probably be going soon," replied Alain. "There's no rush," smiled Jean. "Don't go yet," Robin quickly added. "You can watch some telly with us." Alain agreed to stay and watch some television. He smiled when Robin sat beside him on the sofa and put an arm around the boy. Jean saw the big smile on Robin's face and she couldn't help smiling too. They were watching a film on the BBC when Jean noticed that Robin had fallen asleep. "He was up very early this morning. He would have been knocking on your hotel room door at eight o'clock if I hadn't stopped him," she told Alain. Alain smiled. "I'm pleased that he's happy to have me in his life. Shall I carry him to his bed?" "Please. He'll be sound asleep for hours now," said Jean. "His room is the first on the right at the top of the stairs. Just take his slippers off and throw a blanket on top of him." Alain carefully lifted the boy and carried him up to his bed. He thought Robin looked sweet and innocent as he pulled a blanket over him. His earlier sexual thoughts were long forgotten. He was about to leave when Robin murmured, "I love you, Dad." Alain wasn't sure whether Robin was awake or talking in his sleep but he smiled and said, "I love you too, son." Downstairs he told Jean that he was going to return to his hotel and have a pint or two before going to bed. "And maybe find a hot guy?" Jean asked with a smile. Alain laughed. "No. I grew out of casual sex a long time ago. I'll phone you in the morning and see what Robin wants to do." *** Robin couldn't come up with any exciting ideas so he was delighted when Alain suggested visiting Liverpool. "That's a great idea, Dad. Liverpool is only about thirty miles away so it won't take long on the train," he said. "I'm pleased. I was a huge fan of the Beatles when I was younger and I've always wanted to visit Liverpool," said Alain. "Come to the hotel when you're ready, with your mum of course." About forty-five minutes later, Robin met Alain in the lobby of the hotel. "Mum says we should spend the day together, without her hanging around," he said. Alain was pleased that Jean trusted him. "Okay, son. I've got my camera so let's go." Robin hadn't travelled much by train so he enjoyed the journey to Liverpool. Alain was almost as excited as Robin as they visited places connected with the Beatles and took a ride on a ferry across the River Mersey and back. After lunch, they took a bus tour around the city and saw the cathedral, Anfield football stadium, Sefton Park and various other places. They also visited the Walker Art Gallery before returning to the railway station. Alain took lots of photos of Robin as well as some of the famous sights. Before getting on the train, Alain phoned Jean and invited her to meet up with them for dinner when they got back to Manchester. "I`ve had a fabulous day, Mum," were the first words Robin said when he saw his mother. "Dad knows a lot about Liverpool. We went on a ferry and on a sightseeing bus, and we had pizza for lunch, and we went to an art gallery - and that wasn't boring like I expected. And..." Jean laughed. "I get the picture. You had a fun-filled day." "Yeah." Robin turned and smiled up at Alain. "It was great fun." Alain smiled. "I really enjoyed it too. I'll send you copies of some of the photos I took. Oh, wait a minute. I must take a photo of you and your mum together." Jean and Robin happily posed for Alain and then Jean took a photo of Alain and Robin." Robin grinned and said, "I definitely want a copy of that photo. Now where are we going for dinner? I'm starving." They returned to Alain's hotel after a very nice meal, with wine for the adults. Alain ordered drinks and they settled into comfortable chairs in the lobby. "So...when am I going to Paris?" Robin asked. Jean smiled. "I guess you haven't changed your mind then." "Of course not," replied Robin. "I want to get to know Dad better and it would be a great educational experience for me to visit France." Alain smiled because he had used the `great educational experience' phrase when talking to Robin earlier that day. "I haven't changed my mind either," he told Jean. "Okay. We need to discuss dates then," said Jean. "It should be as soon as possible," Robin said. "When do the school holidays start in France?" Having discovered that the French school summer break started a few weeks earlier than the English one, it was decided that Alain would travel to England on Saturday 25th July and spend the weekend in Manchester before taking Robert to France the following Monday. "You can stay with us next time," suggested Robin. "You can sleep in my bed and I'll sleep on the sofa." "I couldn't do that," said Alain. "You're welcome to stay with us, Alain. There's no point spending a lot of money on a hotel," said Jean. "I agree. Save your money so that you can take me up the Eiffel Tower," Robin said. Alain smiled. "Okay. I'm happy to do that." "How long can I stay with you in France, Dad?" Robin asked. "I don't know." Alain turned to Jean. "Two weeks?" Robin frowned. "Is that all? You don't start back at school until the beginning of September. Can't we make it four?" "I don't think Alain can look after you all that time," said Jean. "He needs to spend some time relaxing." "He can relax with me, Mum. Please. I'd get bored if I was stuck with Granny for most of the summer." "It's really up to Alain," Jean responded. Robin turned and looked at Alain with big puppy-dog eyes. "Please, Dad." Alain couldn't help laughing. "You might get fed up being in a country where you don't speak the language. Or you might miss your friends." Robin opened his mouth to object but Alain got in first. "Why don't we get an open return ticket and then decide once you've been in France for a little while? I would be happy to take care of you for four weeks but I'd hate you to feel trapped." Robin jumped over to Alain and hugged him tightly. "Okay!" He felt the man's arms go around him and smiled. He breathed in the cologne smell he'd come to love. Then he felt his cock begin to stiffen and hurried back to his own chair. "I hope you know what you've let yourself in for," said Jean. To be continued
