Chapter 19

Going Viral

The first video that Isaac and Aidan made was an overnight sensation on YouTube and by the time they posted the second one, they had quite a following. Jaden sang backup on the second and now everyone was talking about the twins and of course the other two brothers who accompanied them. At school they were even more popular than before, mostly  with the girls, but even some of the boys had come forward to tell them how cool the videos were.

The boys parents were proud of the two and happy that Aidan had finally pulled out of his slump and was finding something to occupy his time, but they were a little wary of the fame the boys were quickly acquiring. However they hoped the boys would remain grounded and not let it go to their head. And while they were willing to let the boys continue to post videos, they drew the line at the boys performing in public. The only exception to that rule was the school talent show which would be held the last week of April and the boys were already working on an act.

Since Jeremy was in the same grade he would be included in the act, but since he was older and in a high school they would have to do without Isaac this time. Aidan had been practicing on the guitar and was able to play moderately well, but not well enough to pull off the kind of performance he wanted. For that reason they decided to rely mainly on Jeremy's keyboards for accompaniment.

But even though Isaac couldn't actually perform with the boys he was there to help them as they put the act together, offering suggestions and moral support. By the time the talent show rolled around the boys were sure they had the number down pat and were anxious to perform, if not a little nervous.

For despite all their careful preparation, there was always the chance something would go wrong. With the videos they posted online if they made a mistake they could redo them, but this was to be a live performance with no do overs.

The night before the talent show the boys rehearsed one last time at Isaac and Jeremy's house, and this time they recorded the performance. From start to finish it was a perfect performance with no need for a retake and when they were done they replayed the video and were pleased with what they saw.

"If we can do it just like that tomorrow, we're sure to win this thing."

"I don't care if we win or not," Aidan said looking tired but determined, "I just want us to do our best and show everyone we're serious about our music."

Jaden looked at Aidan with sudden interest, for him the videos and the music were just a way to pass the time and have some fun, but it seemed that Aidan was taking it a lot more serious than he was.

The talent show was scheduled at 7pm that Friday evening in the school auditorium, the same place the school board meeting had been held that fateful evening that the twins were outed, and it was packed by the time the show began.

There were four acts ahead of the boys and while they waited in the wings watching the other performers and evaluating their merit they began to feel a bit more pressure. It was obvious most of the kids had put a lot of time and effort into their performances and the completion was much stiffer than they'd believed it would be.

"Thank you everyone for coming out this evening, let's give an another round of applause for our last act Phil Brooks," When the applause had died down he went on, "And now it gives me great pleasure to introduce an act that has recently gained quite a following on YouTube, ladies and gentleman I give you the group who call themselves Three Bros, composed of Aidan and Jaden Reynolds and Jeremy Wilson."

And as the song wound down and the last words rang out echoing through out the auditorium the crowd went crazy. Jumping to their feet they cheered and applauded, but none as loud as the proud parents of the boys and Isaac who was giving them the thumbs up and a big smile from the wings.

The boys took a bow and still the applause continued but eventually the noise began to die down and the host was able to gain control again.

"Thank you boys for that amazing performance, weren't they great folks? I can certainly see we have a lot of talent here at our school and there is more to come. Our next act is a magic act, give it up for Dustin Taylor."

After the magic act, which was good but nothing spectacular, there were two other acts, both musical acts. One of the acts was an all girl band called Twerks and they did a Pink song and were really quite good. Of all the acts the boys thought the Twerks might be their biggest competition.

When the last act  had finished and the applause had died down the host called everyone back onto stage and each was re-introduced before the voting began. The judges were introduced then, five of the teachers including the music teacher Mr. Granger, and the principal Mr. Warner.

A hush fell over the audience as the judges deliberating, putting their heads together and talking quietly, but it didn't take them long to make their final decision. The boys weren't sure whether to be encourage by their quick decision or worried, but they were as anxious as the others to hear the results.

"Folks it looks like our judges have made a decision, thank you judges and Mr. Warner," he said as he was handed the slip of paper with the winning name on it.

Unfolding the slip of paper the host smiled, "Ladies and gentleman I give you our winner, and I might add, a worthy one, our winner is.....Three Bros."

The crowd went wild again and as the boys accepted their award it was Aidan who made the acceptance speech.

"I want to thank someone very special for making this all possible. His name is Isaac, and he's Jeremy here's brother and he is the person who inspired me to pursue my music and he has helped us ever step of the way. So thank you Isaac, we love you bro. "We made a video of this one last night and we'll be posting it on YouTube, but I'm also going to get a copy of the school's recording and post that too," Aidan said proudly, "I've already cleared it with Mr. Granger. They record all the school programs."

We've of course encouraged them to pursue their dreams, but until now they seemed to be drifting and just being boys. They split in the parking lot and found their vehicles, the boys already waiting impatiently for them. The drive home was a noisy one and when the Reynolds arrived they had a late supper then split up and went to their rooms.
