Writing a "How To" Manual II The Secret of the Wolves Chapter 4 The senior class all graduated, and left campus, while the rest of us were still finishing up our final exams. As a result, Wolf, Sven and I were able to move into the frat house before leaving for the summer. It was a good deal for us. We could leave a lot of our stuff in the house until the fall semester was to begin. Travelling back and forth would now be a lot easier, and we could return to campus anytime we wanted to. For Sven and Gerry it was a Godsend. They could now make love in the middle of the night behind their closed bedroom door, at least until they both went home for the summer. During the summer break, Sven and Wolf worked on their farms, Gerry got a job in a factory that made badges for firemen and policemen, while I worked in the store. I was honored that Dad and Carl actually took a vacation the first week of August. They left me solely in charge of the store. As much as we loved being home, and making love to Dad and Carl, Wolf and I couldn't wait to get back to school, where we didn't have to ration our love, and where we could sleep together every night. It also gave us an opportunity to edit Carl's manual, and fine tune it. We intended to surprise him with an updated manuscript at winter break. Once back on campus, Gerry, Sven, Wolf and I continued to chip in and rent a room at a motel every Friday night. This way we could make four way love without fear of discovery by our frat brothers. We didn't have a wide choice of motels. None of us had an auto, and we had to pick a place along a bus route. There were four motels we used alternately. The one thing we didn't dare do was go to the gay bar on Sunday night. As much as we all wanted to go there, Gerry and Sven were afraid of discovery. We always had breakfast together at the motel on Saturday mornings before checking out. At breakfast one morning, just before winter break, Wolf said, "I think we should go to "The Devil's Hideaway" tomorrow night. "It's okay for you and Tim," Gerry said, "but it would be a disaster for Sven or me to get recognized there." "I've been thinking about that," Wolf said. "If you get recognized, nobody is going to out you. They'd have to explain what they were doing in a gay bar themselves. At this point, I would think it would be a great relief not to hide your love for each other any longer. Maybe it's time to start thinking about coming out." "I'm scared," Sven said. "Me too," Gerry echoed. "Why don't we go to the bar tomorrow night, and leave it all in the hands of fate," I said. "Besides, tomorrow night, we have a full moon. Wolf turns into a werewolf, and he'll protect you." I never thought they would take me seriously. They both looked into Wolf's sharp, almost black eyes, and shuddered. "Really?" they both asked at once, and Wolf and I broke out laughing. When we laughed, they did too. "Okay let's do it," Sven said. He looked at Gerry. "I love you," he said. "Like Wolf said, we can't hide forever." Gerry squeezed Sven's hand, and smiled at him. "It's a deal," he said. The next Sunday night, Sven and Gerry left the house before us, so as not to give anyone cause to wonder. On the way out, one of our frat brothers, Matt Hastings, asked if they were doing anything special, and he reminded them that it was a school night after all. Sven reckoned that Matt was looking for an invitation to join them, so he said, "I have a hot date tonight with a townie, and Gerry is coming along for her cousin." Matt looked very disappointed. "Oh," he said. "Well, have fun, and do everything I would do." Gerry and Sven laughed dutifully, and hurried out. Minutes later Wolf and I headed out the door. Even though our brothers were accepting of our relationship, nobody ever seemed to want to join us when we went out alone. I guess they thought we might be meeting up with a gaggle of fags. Matt was still in the entrance way, and he never asked us if we were doing anything special. I felt we should say something anyway, "We have no plans. We're just going to bum around," I said, and we left hastily. We met up with Sven and Gerry outside the bar. They were reluctant to go in without us. The four of us worked up our courage and walked in. I guess I expected loud music, topless hot men dancing, a smoked filled room, and an air of decadence. As usual, assumption made a fool of me. I had never been in a cocktail lounge in my native New York, but I had seen plenty of them in movies. The Devil's Hideaway was a replica of such an after dinner hangout. It was dimly lit, but my eyes adjusted quickly. There were some hot looking guys all right, but they were all nicely dressed. A few of the older men were wearing suit jackets and ties. The younger men could have been university students, but I didn't recognize any of them. The patrons were all drinking something, not necessarily booze, and milling around the bar, or they were sitting at small tables. A piano player was tickling the ivories with melodious love songs from Broadway musicals. I couldn't help thinking that Carl and my dad would love this place. I figured that the owners were a picture of decorum because all the rest of the week, this was a straight bar, for one, and they could be closed by the police if there were any shenanigans going on, for two. There were no women present. Otherwise I would have thought we had been misinformed about this place being gay on Sunday evenings. It was so not stereotypical. There was one vacant table available, and we grabbed it. It was a tight fit for four big guys like us. I ended up facing the entrance. A very straight looking waiter came over and took our orders. Unfortunately he carded us, and we ended up drinking cokes and alcohol free beer. We had hoped to dance, but there was no dance floor, so we just sat and socialized. A few men came over, and introduced themselves. They noted that they had not seen us here before and welcomed us. "I hope this won't be the last we see of you," a man of about forty, wearing a business suit and tie said. "You guys are mighty fine looking eye candy." Wolf gallantly said, "You aren't hard to look at either." The man laughed. "See you around then," he said. Just as I said, I was facing the entrance, and the moment the middle aged man left our table, in walked Matt Hastings. I was filled with fright and apprehension for Sven and Gerry, but I realized that Matt was either gay or a wannabee. The others could not see him, so I stood up, and said, "I'll be right back. I gotta pee." I ran to the front entrance. I wanted to catch Matt, and pave the way, before he spotted us and ran away in fear. The moment he saw me, he turned and started to leave, but I caught his arm. "Would you like to go outside, and we'll talk?" I asked. He just nodded. The first thing I said to him was, "Don't worry. I have never outed a closeted man in my life, and I'm not about to start now." "Thanks," he mumbled. "So now you know." "Yes, so now I know. Wolf didn't see you. I told him that I was going to the men's room. I could keep it from him, but I would suggest you face your fears, come inside, and say hello to Wolf and our companions." "Honest, Tim, I've never been with a man. I guess I came here because I was curious." He smiled at me. "I've never been with a woman either," he admitted. "Well, then, I think you should come in with me. Maybe we can satisfy your curiosity, and you can make up your mind as to where you stand. It's a big deal admitting your gay. Right now, you may suspect it, but suspicion is not the same thing as admission." "Okay," he said quietly. I wondered if I should pre-warn him about Sven and Gerry, but I decided to let it be one big surprise. The devil in me wanted to see how the three of them would handle it. The three guys at the table didn't even look up when I approached the table, but Matt saw them immediately. He stopped dead in his tracks, and I feared he would bolt, but his legs wouldn't move. I had to steer him toward the table. When we got there I said, "Ahem," to get their attention. They looked up, and it was Sven and Gerry who looked like they wanted to run. The color was drained from their faces. I figured I'd better say something fast. "Relax everybody. Matt is a brother, but unfortunately, like some other people I know, he's hiding in the closet. You can all relax. Your secret is safe with Wolf and me, and I am certain it's safe with the three of you." There was an empty chair at a nearby table and we brought it over. Somehow we squeezed Matt in. As we were maneuvering chairs, the middle aged guy came over. He grabbed Matt and hugged him. Matt, honey," he said. "I'm so glad you came back. You ran away so fast last time, I was certain you'd never come back. You looked so scared. I promise you, there is nothing to be afraid of. After you visit with your friends a bit, join me at the bar, and I'll buy you a proper drink." He left abruptly, and we all looked at Matt, anticipating an explanation. He didn't disappoint. "I worked up the courage to come here a couple of weeks ago. I met that guy. His name is James Brenner, and he's a lawyer in town. He's also in the closet, like me. I thought he was in his forties, but he's only thirty-two. His graying hair really ages him. I told him he should dye it. Anyway, when he asked me to go home with him, I really, really wanted to, but I got so scared I ran away, and headed for home." Gerry said, "Take a deep breath, calm down and have a sip of my coke. You can totally relax. You're safe with us, and we haven't seen anyone else here we know." Wolf should be a fox worshiper instead of a wolf worshiper. He's so damned sly. "I want a show of hands. How many think we should induct Matt into our private club this Friday evening?" Four hands shot skyward. "What's that all about?" Matt asked, and we told him about our Friday night get together. His mouth watered, and he kept adjusting his crotch. "We chip in for a hotel room," Gerry said, "so five of us will make it even cheaper." "I've got a great idea. I really have the hots for Jim. He told me that he had a big house he inherited from his grandparents, and that it was empty except for him. What if we invited him, and he agreed. I'll bet he wouldn't mind at all if we used his house every Friday evening for a club meeting, as long as he was included." "He's very good looking. That'd be okay with me," Sven said, "if you all agree, of course." We all nodded, and mumbled our approval. Matt went over to the bar. He engaged Jim in an animated conversation. At some point, he glanced at our table, smiled and nodded at us. He and Matt returned to our table together. We introduced ourselves, and Jim gave each of us a calling card. "This is not my business card. It's my private card," he said. "That's my home address and home telephone number on it. The cell is a private number also. It's not my business cell. What time would you all like to come over on Friday? I'll be happy to supply the refreshments. Sven smiled at me. Now he knew that supplying the refreshments meant supplying condoms and lube. "I'm sorry to break up the party, gentlemen," Wolf said, "but tomorrow is a school day, and we have to get home." We all stood up, and I was surprised that Jim hugged and kissed us all. I realized that underneath his business suit, there was a very hard body. "Brothers," I said, "before we leave this joint, I want to do something we can't do at home. They looked at me curiously. I went over to each one of them and hugged them. I also kissed them with my lips slightly ajar. When I got to Wolf, I said, I'll kiss you properly when we get into bed tonight." "I'll make you the same promise," Gerry said to Sven. All Matt could say was, "Lucky fuckers." "My offer to come home with me is still on the table," Jim said to Matt. "Let's wait for Friday evening," Matt answered. "We won't have to rush, and I'll be way more relaxed." Jim kissed Matt again, and wished us all a good night. Our secret society had grown to six members. I wondered if we shouldn't formalize it with a few rules, dues to cover expenses, and give ourselves a name. I decided to bring the subject up at our next "meeting." To be continued...
