made two new close friends.

along with Eric and David went into the kitchen and got some apples and
carrots and then walked over to the barn to give the horses a treat.  Just
as it was getting dark, we saw the boys leaving the barn and heading
towards the bunk house we were using.  Steve and I along with Jose and
Maria walked over to the bunk house so the boys could say good night to
them before they headed back to their cabin.

We sent the boys in to take showers because they really needed it.  All
four have become so comfortable with each other that there was no
hesitation at all for them to strip down and walk into the shower talking
and joking with each other.  Sean and Colby shared a shower and this time
Hunter and Connor also shared a shower.  Each helped their shower partner

It had been a really long day and before long the boys were giving Steve

Connor in their own beds.  Steve and I were right behind them.  All of us
were so tired from the day's activities that no one was even thinking about

Sunday morning we got up and headed to breakfast.  Just as before, Jose
would come in and said a blessing and then we would all fill our plates.

"OK, we need to get the morning chores done and then everyone back here
dressed for church by 10AM."

After all the kids left and headed to the barn, Jose told us, "On Sunday we
all meet up for church at 10AM.  We have a couple of vans for all the kids,
but you guys are more than welcome to follow in your truck if you would
like to go with us.  We think it is important for everyone to attend
church, and most of the kids like the youth group they have."

Steve said, "We would love to join you."

At church the boys sat with Eric and David and all the other kids.  It was
a nice service and everyone seemed to be very nice.  After church we headed
back to the ranch and got ready for the drive back home.  The boys were
busy following David and Eric around.  I think they have found some good
friends.  We finally got the boys to say goodbye to Eric and David and to
Jose and Maria so we could get on the road for drive back home.

We dropped Hunter off at his house and then the rest of us headed back to

I guess they needed their fix of video games since they had been without
them for a couple of days.  Steve and I lounged around the house
occasionally talking about how we would like to have our own ranch where we
could bring kids that needed some place to stay and get some help.

It was back to work for Steve and I on Monday.  The boys had one last week
of summer vacation left before school started.  As the week went on Steve
and I noticed that Sean and Colby seemed to be getting nervous about
starting high school.  Connor also seemed a little nervous to have to do
his last year of middle school without his big brother in the same school.

Colby had his weekly appointment with his counselor along with his parents.
I got a call from his counselor on Thursday and was told that he believed
that Colby and his parents were ready to be reunited and he had contacted
Colby's CPS worker to let her know as well.

When I picked Colby up from his appointment he was very quiet on the way
home and I could tell that he was in deep thought about something.  I
asked, "You OK, Colby?  You seem to be struggling with something."

Colby just stared down at his lap as he said, "My counselor said he thinks
I should move back in with my parents."

"Well that is a good thing right?"

"Yes, I want to move back in with them.  I just don't want to hurt Sean and
I don't know how to tell him. Will you and Steve be there and help me tell
him?"

"Of course we will.  I'm sure that he will understand that you want to live
with your parents.  He will be sad that he doesn't have you with him all
the time but I think he will be fine with it."

"I hope so."

"Let's have a family talk after dinner tonight.  How's that sound?"

"Ok.  Can we have hamburgers?"

"Sure."

When Steve arrived home I told him about Colby so he was on board.  We
called the boys in from playing basketball for dinner and all set at the
table for some great homemade hamburgers.  As we were finishing up I looked
over at Colby who looked like he was going to explode.  The look in his
eyes told me that he wanted someone else to start the conversation about
him going back home, so I took the hint.

"Colby how did your meeting go with your counselor and parents?"

"Ummm, it went good I guess.  My dad and I have worked everything out and
mom and dad want me to come back and live with them."

Steve jumped in and said, "Well that is good.  We all just want you to be
happy and safe."

Colby continued, "My counselor said that he was going to talk with
Ms. Johnston about me moving back with my parents."

I said, "Did he say when that might happen?"

Colby answered, "Maybe as soon as next week."

I looked over at Sean and could see the tears building in his eyes.  Sean
cleared his throat before he spoke, "I'm so glad that you have fixed things
with your dad.  I'm going to be sad that you are not going to staying with
us, but I'm glad that things are going well with your parents.  And we will
still get to hang right?"

As a tear rolled down Sean's cheek, Colby pulled Sean into a hug and
whispered, "Thanks for being such a great friend, I love you so much."

Conner jumped in to lighten the mood, "Will you just kiss him and get it
over with.  Man you two are such girls!  You both know that you will be in
all the same classes at school and hang out after school.  The only thing
you won't be doing together is sleeping in the same bed!"

We all laughed a little as Colby gave Sean a small peck on the lips as they
both wiped their eyes.

Colby and Sean spent the rest of the night in their room as Connor hung out
with Steve and me in the living room.  About 10pm the boys said there
goodnights and headed off to bed.  Steve and I were right behind them.  We
were both off the next day and planned to take the boys out to get the
school supplies and some new clothes.
