Now that you've been properly warned. . . The story begins ********************************************************** He entered the apartment where he lived. Without turning on the light he went straight to the bathroom. It was very late and his mate would be asleep. As quietly as possible he entered the bathroom and closed the door before turning on the light. He started the shower grimacing at the sound of falling water, but it could not be helped. Stripping out of his clothes, he stepped in and began washing away his evening's work. A few minutes later he stepped out of the shower and dried himself. He brushed his teeth and did the usual routine people do before going to bed. He finished up and shut out the light before opening the bathroom door. When he entered the bedroom he found the lamp on his side of the bed had been left on for him. He saw his sleeping lover's back and felt dirty all over again. He was struck with feelings of guilt and felt very undeserving of the love he had been given. With a sigh he shut off the lamp and slipped in to bed as gently as possible. He had barely settled in when an arm slipped around him from behind and drew him gently back into a warm caring embrace. Lips gently kissed his ear and a voice whispered lovingly. "Hi honey, how was your night?" "It was real good. I cleared a thousand." "Good." Said the voice smiling in the dark. "What time do you want breakfast?" "Make it lunch." He replied. "I had to earn that thousand." "Okay." There was no trace of hurt in the voice. Then those lips gently kissed his ear again and the voice said, "You must be exhausted. Good night, I love you." That was all he could stand. He rolled over on to his back and asked, "How the hell do you put up with me?" The arm flinched but easily settled back around him. "I love you." Said the voice quietly, reassuringly. "You could have anyone you want." He blustered. "Why do you settle for a cheap whore like me?" The arm was gone and he could feel his lover shift and knew he was being glared at though he could not see the eyes. "You, are not a cheap whore and I don't ever want to hear you talk about yourself like that again." It was the first anger he had ever heard from his mate. Then the arm drew the blanket over him before settling around him again. The voice quietly spoke in to his ear. "I am not settling for anything. I know what you do for a living, and I know we don't need the money to survive. But I also know what it would do to you if you felt you weren't contributing to our life together. I would gladly support us and put you through any school you want and all you have to do is ask, but that's not you." He was quiet for a moment then he said, "There are plenty of guys my age that would give up this life and let you support them. Why do you put up with it from me?" There was no hesitation in his lover's voice, "Because I love you, and because you always come home to sleep with me. Besides, the others are just sex for money-a service. You and I make love not sex." "I don't deserve you." He said. "Love doesn't care about whether or not you deserve it." Counseled the voice. "I don't care about it either-all I care about is you." He was glad it was dark so his teary eyes could not be seen. He swallowed hard and said, "I wish I wasn't so tired. I want to make love to you right now." The arm squeezed him gently, "Hold that thought until after you've had lunch. Until then, pleasant dreams, my love." He caressed the arm that held him and said, "I love you too." He turned his face toward his lover until he felt their foreheads touch. He closed his eyes and let himself relax. He still felt unworthy, but at the moment he felt content-and loved.
