If you find any of the above upsetting or it is illegal in your aread to read it, please leave. Fire was everywhere. The sky was really bright. Too bright. The flames were blinding, the heat intense, I could hear the sound of my own skin getting burnt to black leather. But I felt not pain. I felt nothing. Just silence, and inner silence that was consuming me, I was watching everything as if as if it were a film, on screen. I could see everything being consumed by the red and gold monster of the fire. Black winged horses crossing the sky. I think its night, but I can't be sure. The firmament is not black or blue but bright red, the reflection of the heaven below. A woman with silver hair, and black tears cries high in the sky, her white robe caught in the flames. I wake up. Sweat is pouring down my forehead and my bed is soaked. I stand up and collect the covers. I walk through the cold room; the tiles feel like broken glass on my bare feet. I open the door and pass the window that looks down to the sleeping city. I open the bathroom door and turn the lights on. Its too bright, I cover my eyes and drop the bed covers on the bathroom floor. Shit. I kneel down and pick them up. There on my knees I open the counter under the sink and throw the cover into the laundry bag. I stand up too fast and hit my head on the counter. I take my hand to the back of my head and feel the spot. No blood but is definitely getting swollen. I stand up and move to turn the lights off but I catch something on the mirror. `What was that?' I whisper to myself. I see my own black eyes staring at me, like two bottomless holes of nothingness. I move the black strain of hair covering my right eye and stare at myself for a second. I see a boy, too skinny I'd say. I stare at my pale face, I'm fifteen and not a single hair, or a pimple, nothing that would indicate I have reached puberty. I could pass for a ten year old if I wasn't so tall. I look and my underdeveloped chest, I move my hand down to my flat stomach. I'm so pale... how can I be so pale?! I'm Hispanic, my mother is tanned, my father is tanned, my whole freaking family is tanned! Why do I have to be different...why am I always different... for once... Just for once I would like to blend in, to be part of something... I turn the lights off, but before I see a glimpse of something in the mirror. A bright green light, it was less that a second, but it was there... I turn the lights off and close the door behind me. I turn to my left and open the closet in the hallway I get the covers for my bed and I turn to around to walk to my room. I see that weird light coming from the window. I slowly walk to it, fearful of what can be hidden behind the lid. Everything around me is silent, still. Too still. My hand is shaking but I move it towards the lid, the green light gets brighter, lighting the whole room in a strange green shade. I open the lid. I see something... Eyes... - Zeca? - I turn around and see my mother with a worried look in her face. She is so young but a hard life has aged her. Her smile is still young though. She is so beautiful, with her long silky black hair and her soft brown eyes and that always tanned skin. She is so unlike...me... -Hey mami, what are you doing up so late? - I turn around for a second, the light is gone. - I'm going to bed right now ok? -- -Ok mi'jo, love you -- She walks to me and goes on the tips of her toes to kiss my forehead -Love you mami -- I say as I kiss her forehead -- at what time are you working in the morning? -- -At seven -- She smiles at me and starts walking to her room, you can see in her body how tired she is. I start to walk towards my room, unable to get those bright green eyes out of my head. I walk into the darkness of my room. I put the covers over the mattress, and later check my book bag. Homework books, all ready. I look up at my computer and I see a floppy in the drive. I take it out fast and stick it in my bag. I almost forgot my nine-week project. I go to my bed and throw the covers over my head. I look at my desk at the red numbers of the clock. Three AM. - God I hate nightmares - I wake up. The memories from the night before come to my mind. Was it a dream? Those eyes... what were those eyes... I shake my head as if with it I could shake the idea out of it. I get out of bed and make it, making sure every pillow is in its right place. I look at the black alarm clock on my desk. I never set the alarm, with or without it I always wake up at dawn. It has been that way ever since I can remember. I look at the red digits. `6:15 a.m.' I slide my boxers down and I stand naked for a second, I look down and my pubes, only being a small black fur. I sigh at my underdeveloped body and I grab the towel over my chair, wrapping it around my waist. I walk the familiar distance across the hall to the bathroom. I open the door and after closing it behind my back I throw the towel into the dry sink. I walk the three steps between the shower and the sink, and then I open the glass door and lean down to turn the water. I turn it to boiling hot and the push the small bar in the handle that opens the shower head. I jump in the shower and I feel the hot water running down my back. My left hand on the wall and the other softly soaping my chest. The door opens. I look up and brush my hand against the clouded glass. It's my mom. Nothing unusual, this kind of intimacy is normal between my mom and I. I would have been more embarrassed if my father was the one who walked in. She sits on the toilet and starts peeing. -Hey ma'- I say while I soap my legs -- What's for breakfast? -- No answer -- Mami? You ok? -- I turn the shower and hear my mom crying, she obviously didn't noticed I was there, I get out and I grab my towel then I see why is mom crying. A pregnancy test... a positive pregnancy test. I hug my mom. She hugs me back. -What are we going to do? We don't have money for another baby. We have to pay yours and your brother's tuition at the school...- My mom looked up at me, her beautiful brown eyes each filled with a river of tears, and many little red veins. She places her hand on my cheeks and brushes away the wet strand of hair in my forehead. -- Ahy mi'jo -- She sighs -- Go and get ready for school, - she wipes her tears away and gives me her patented smile. -- you and Danny are gonna be late for school.- I kiss her forehead and walk to my room, the green eyes no longer important but my mom's brown ones are. I start dressing for school. Black socks, dark blue dress pants, black leather belt. I tuck the cotton yellowish shirt in. I tie the knot for my tie. Red and navy blue stripes, with the St. Martin's Emblem right in the middle, stamped with golden letters. I put the blue jacket on and for the final touch I lean put my silver cross around my neck. I better hurry or I'll be late for seven o'clock mass. I run to the kitchen and grab a piece of toast from the table, for a moment I forgot about the conversation mom and I had, then I look up. My father's green eyes reflect repressed anger, his fist are closed, and his knuckles are white. My mom never cries in front of him, so she stands by the sink smiling as if anything was happening and continues to wash the morning dishes, putting extra attention to every single little piece of food in them. Fully dressed for work, there she is making my six-year-old brother think everything is all right, being as always, the strong one in the family. -Hey Zeca, - says my mom shaking the water from her hands and walking towards me to give me a morning kiss -- please take your brother and go to school in the metro, I'm late for work and I can't take you, could you do that for me, honey? -- She smiles at me, with those puppy eyes of her shinning in her round face. -Yes mami, no problem. Danny, dude! Hurry up would you? -- My little brother then looks up at me and giggle. Then he stands up and gets his book bag and comes to me. He grabs my hand and I smile at him. -- Bye mom, have a good day at work. -- I lean down and kiss her forehead then I turn around to my father. -- Goodbye Father. -- I take Danny and move to open the door. I grab my keys from the kitchen counter and head to the small hall where the front door it. I take Danny in my arms and carry him to the train station. I get the change from the machine, but between the two book bags, Danny, and the coins I drop the last ones. When I move down to get them this boy leans down and gets them for me. He puts them in my hand and looks at me. I can help but stare into his eyes. He has the most amazing green eyes I have seen if my entire life. He has sandy blonde hair that is just a little long. As I was looking down his body I noticed he was dressed just like me! He goes to the same school as I do! I need to ask his name... Come on Zeca TALK! - Gabriel! Come here boy. -- A tall businessman called. -Well... I didn't got you name... - Come on Zeca get a grip, talk -- Well I gotta go, it seems we go to the same school. It's my first day, - he smiled. God what a smile... - I hope I'll see you there, bye. -- I stare at him as he runs to who seems to be his dad. God, what a loser I am. I start walking to the trains and as I walk up stairs to the platform, I hear the damn thing getting near. `This is definitely not my day' I think to myself as I run upstairs and Danny slipping out of my arms. I get to the platform and one of the doors is closing and I practically jump in the train. I walk in and I look for an empty seat while my heartbeat gets to a more normal pace. I find an empty seat and after sitting Danny, I can sit and relax my head between my hands. After a few minutes I look up and look around. There's that boy! What was his name... how did that man called him... Gabriel, that's it! He is there! I can't help but stare at his perfection. His perfectly full lips, his powerful cheekbones, his eyes, god I could stare into his eyes forever, just lose myself in those green gems. I stared at him for too long because next thing I know we are at our stop and a bunch of kids in uniform start moving. He stands up and our eyes meet. Time stops, for the longest second of my live I just stare into his eyes. Then he smiles and just gets out of the car. I gather my stuff and grab Danny and start walking outside. As we walk down stairs to the street level Gabriel pass by us... but wasn't he in front of us... Well he is new maybe he got lost in the station. He goes in front of us with that odd man that was with him. He stands at the bottom of the stairs and says with that sweet voice of his: -See you at school Zeca -- Then he smiles at me and keeps on walking. I smile to myself and pick Danny from the floor. At the bottom of the stairs it hit me. He said my name. How did he... Forget it, I'm late for mass. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my first attempt for a complete story, chapter two it's on its way, as well as chapter three.
