Also, this story may contain acts of a gay sexual nature so if this offends you: 1) How the hell did you come to be reading this anyway? Is there something you want to tell me? 2) Don't be such a homophobe...we are still people! 3) I suggest you leave now and find help. It has come to my attention that I made a bit of a boob in the first chapter! It would appear Jake actually started out being called Marcus and for this I must apologise! I got a bit confused!!! Also, some people have asked about the short segment at the very beginning of the story. This is a small taster of things to come and it will be explained eventually (I promise...no really, I will explain it, it might just take a little while!) *Also, this chapter (and consequent ones) contains some Latin words. I obtained these using an online translator and, as you may or may not know, these are notoriously inaccurate. If any of them are wrong and you happen to know the correct word that should have been used I would greatly appreciate it if you could email me with the correction. Many thanks. Now, enjoy... End of Chapter 5... Rynor had his hands on Jakes knees but he now brought them up, under his tunic on his hips and broke the kiss. "Please Jake, not like this, not just yet. Why don't we go and eat? Talk about things, then, maybe, see how we feel. I don't want you to rush in to this and regret it later." Jake took hold of one of Rynor's hands and moved it down on to his full 8 inches that were now as hard as steel, straining for more and oozing pre-cum. "Does it feel like I will regret this later?" he asked. Chapter 6 "I know Jake but now isn't the time for this. Come on, let's go and get some food." Rynor extricated his hand from Jakes groin and made his way down to the kitchen leaving Jake alone on the bed feeling rejected. "Come on Jake, get a grip, he is right, this isn't the right time. So...buck up, don't let him see you like this...and for gods' sake stop talking to yourself...you look like a crazy person!" Jake got off the bed, sorted out his tunic and then followed Rynor downstairs. As he entered he saw Rynor standing over the sink. It looked like his shoulders were shaking but Jake just assumed he was cold. "So, what are we eating then?" asked Jake. Rynor didn't turn around straight away but said "I'm not sure, what do you fancy?" He then turned around and smiled at Jake but the tear streaks down his cheeks didn't go unnoticed. "Oh I can think of plenty of things I would like to eat" said Jake with a wink, "but I'm not actually that hungry so how about just some bread a cheese?" "Good idea" was all Rynor managed. "I'll get it, you sit down and relax" said Jake, aware that he wasn't the only one disappointed by Rynor's decision. They sat eating their meal in silence. On a number of occasions Jake thought Rynor was about to say something but each time he just stopped and carried on eating. Jake didn't really mind this too much, he needed the time to think. `Oh what am I going to do? I know he wants me, I can tell, and I would do anything to be able to have him but it's just not going to work. I am too young for him, it would be wrong. The only thing I can do is ignore my feelings for him and get on with all this training. I wonder when Dominic is going to get back...oh, I wonder if he will start me on the magic training. Oh, I wonder what sort of bird that is...' From here Jake's mind wondered onto many things that I won't bore or confuse you with but suffice it to say that he decided to cover up his feelings for Rynor and just see how things pan out. "Good lord, who died?" Jake and Rynor both looked up shocked. "JESUS CHRIST" yelled Jake. "Dominic! I really wish you would stop doing that." "Doing what?" asked Dominic. "That!" replied Jake, "the creepy head thing." Dominic looked a bit confused then looked down. "CONFOUND IT! Why does this keep happening? Let's see, where was I? Ah yes." With that he disappeared and reappeared just as quickly, except this time his head was attached to the rest of his body. "That's better." "And you're going to be teaching me magic?" asked Jake dubiously, evoking a laugh from Rynor. Dominic just scowled. "That depends on whether Rynor believes you to be at a sufficient level with your combat training." "Oh he is definitely ready," said Rynor, indicating the slash in his tunic. "We sparred today and I gave him the sword to use. He could have defeated an entire army single handed!" A wave of shock flashed across Dominic's eyes but it was quickly replaced by a look of satisfaction. "Excellent, in that case would be so kind as to work on Jake's musculature from now on Rynor. He may be skilled but he needs to be much stronger. We will start your mage training tomorrow Jake." With that he disappeared out the door and headed towards a house down the row where he had a room. Jake and Rynor finished up there food, washed their dished and went to bed, all in complete, deafening silence. In the morning, they were woken by Dominic preparing breakfast downstairs and both became aware that Rynor was spooning up to Jake with his member pressed along his crack. Rynor quickly leapt out of bed and headed to the bathroom to wash and get dressed. Jake, determined not to make things worse, waited until he heard Rynor go downstairs and then did the same. "Good morning," said Dominic, "eat up. You are going to need your strength today." After breakfast, Dominic led Jake to the training room, but this time, as he went through the door, he walked out into a forest glade. He was surrounded by ancient oak trees wrapped in mistletoe, flowers in full bloom and all sorts of insects. He could also ear a brook or stream nearby, washing over rocks and making him a little sleepy. The glade was quite large, about the size of a swimming pool, and was bathed in a dark green light from the tree tops with occasional spears of white light penetrating the foliage. "This," said Dominic "is where your training will begin. No mage can even hope to learn, let alone use, magic unless he is clear of mind of heart. Now, we know that you are clear of heart (I hope) so we need to work on your `clear of mind'. If your mind is too cluttered when you think or say the incantations, any one of your thoughts can alter the spell in any number of ways which could have catastrophic consequences. Learning the language for the spells is incredibly easy, THIS is the hard part. So, what you need to do is sit down, I find on that stump over there is best, and just listen. You cannot hope to do more yet, so for now just listen and perhaps contemplate the origins of what you hear. And so it was that Jake came to spend many hours a day sitting on a tree stump in a forest glade just listening. In the evening Rynor had him do two hours of a rigorous weights training circuit to improve his muscles. Two Years later. "My god, this is astounding. Rynor, he has learnt in two short years what it took many of this planets best mages, myself included, fifteen years of training in the Kings army to achieve. Within three months he had accomplished a state of complete calm and could empty his mind in the blink of an eye. After only a year he could actually sense all living things around him from the largest bear to the lowliest ant. And this, now this is the most miraculous thing. After only two years, he has achieved perfect telepathy and telekinesis! There are many mages in the High Guard that haven't even achieved those skills. In fact, I am not sure any of them have. Those skills were believed to have died with Raoul IV. It's him Rynor! It's really him!" "Didn't we always know that Dominic?" asked Rynor. "Oh well of course we always knew it was him but when he first came here he was just a boy who knew nothing. With the work we have done on him, he is a fearless warrior and a mage with the potential to reach higher than anyone from the High Guild ever achieved!" In the last two years, Rynor had been pushing Jake hard with his training regime and it had paid off. Jake was a goliath. He had bulging pecs and abs, his stomach was harder and more defined than a washboard and he could have crushed a steel girder with his thighs. He had also grown to a height of 6"2. As for his swordsmanship, Rynor out him through many simulators in the training room and he had achieved a level of skill so high that Rynor could no longer last more than four minutes in a spar before Jake had him in a potentially fatal position. "Are you going to start him on the incantations today?" asked Rynor. Dominic thought for a second then simply nodded his head as he walked away, thinking of how to best approach Jakes training. Dominic and Rynor had been standing in the bedroom doorway, watching Jake sleep as they had this discussion but, unbeknownst to them, he wasn't asleep. He had heard the entire conversation however, where you would expect this to make most people big headed and arrogant, Jakes adoration for both Rynor and Dominic meant that he felt pride for the briefest of moments and then he moved on to his morning regime. He lifted the bed cover on him and then dropped to the floor and did two hundred press ups and stomach crunches. Having done this, he went to the bathroom to wash and then called his tunic over him and slipping it on before heading downstairs for breakfast. "Good morning guys," he said as he walked into the kitchen "what have we got planned for today?" "Jake, do you believe yourself ready for further training?" asked Dominic. "That is up to you Dom. Do you think I am ready?" Dom smiled at this and replied; "Yes I do Jake. Today I am going to start teaching you the language we use for our incantations which are the source of our magic." Jake tried to hide his excitement but didn't do a very good job. "So, er, when are we going to start?" he asked, practically jumping out of his chair. "As soon as you have finished your breakfast. I will be in the training room. Come and join me there." Jake couldn't wolf down his food fast enough. Within two minutes he was finished and was almost sprinting into the training room. He discovered what looked like an archery range with a couple of stalls facing targets about 20 metres away. Dominic was standing in the corner by a bookshelf, engrossed in a book. "Oh, that was quick," he said. "Right then, shall we begin. Sit down." He motioned to a chair which Jake quickly filled with his bulky frame. "Ok, the language I am about to teach you is an ancient language of unknown origin that our scholars discovered many aeons ago. To evoke a spell you merely need be in the right state of mind and either say or think the words you require." Dominic raised his hand and suddenly a bolt of fire shot out of it, circled the room and then returned to his hand and disappeared. "For example, to do that I simply thought the words `Fire, circle, return'. Once you have learnt the language it really is that simple." Dominic sat down opposite Jake and continued. "There are four main types of magic and today we are going to learn the words for them. They are fire, water, lightening and air. Ok, so in the ancient language they are incendia, aqua, desumo and aer. Now, repeat them back to me." "Incendia, aqua, desumo...wait a minute. You say that this is an unknown language?" "Er, well, yes, we have no idea where it came from." "But Dominic, this is Latin!" "It's what?" asked Dominic, a little confused. "Latin. It was spoken by the Romans of Italy. I think it is a dead language now but it is standard practise in some schools for children to learn it. Ok, let's see. To do what you just did you probably said something along the lines of Incendia, orbis, reverto. I was taught Latin at my primary school and I am almost fluent!" Dominic was in shock. "Do you mean to tell me that you know the origins of this language? You actually know where it started." "Well, that depends, how long have your people been using it?" "We don't know. It only has recorded use from the last 1500 years but that doesn't mean it has not been used before that." "Well, I can tell you that it can't have been used too much before that. If I remember my history right, and there is a strong possibility that I don't, but if I do, Latin only really became a widely used language about 3000 years ago with the Romans. Now, they were ruled by a series of blokes who wanted to take over the world and did rather well at it and accordingly Latin spread over large proportions of the globe. There are many, many languages on Earth that can trace their roots to Latin." "I...uh...do you...ok. Let's try again. Do you know a lot of this...Laten?" "Latin. And yes, as I said, I am almost fluent. Well, no, scrap that, I am almost fluent at the conversational stuff. Why don't you test me? Think of a spell and let's see if I can think how I would go about it." "That seems like a sensible idea. Ok...how would you...right, how would you go about making an earth tremor knock over a group of people?" Jake thought for a few seconds and then said "Terra, palpito, occumbo (earth, tremble, fall over) making sure to point at the people in question. Would that work?" "Hmm. Probably, although it does help to be a little more specific. It would probably help to add in `illud populus' (that populace) but you got the most important aspect right. All of our magic originates from our hands. We can't explain why, it just does so you must be very careful when you use your incantations. Usually, when you cast a spell, most mages tend to use only one hand unless they are trying to use a little more power so you must always make sure your other hand is clenched into a fist. For some reason this stops the magic emitting from that hand and possibly doing you some damage." "Ok, I get it, I guess that makes sense." "Right, come over here, I want you to try a spell. You see that target. I want you to try and hit the centre of it with a shard of ice. Now, remember, it is very important that you clear your mind." Jake stood in one of the booths and thought of the required words. "For now Jake, I want you to say the spells so I can test what language you are using." "Right, ok." Jake cleared his mind, raised the palm of his right hand to the target making sure his left hand was in a fist and said "intentio centre, ledo, per glacies (aim, centre, hit, with ice)." As he said this, he felt a tingling in his palm and then he saw a shard of ice fly from his hand towards the target and hit it lust to the left of the centre. "Ok Jake, that was very good. You are very accurate and thorough with your choice of language however, and this is only a minor point, for this kind of spell there is a much simpler way of doing it. Observe." Dominic stood beside Jake, pointed his index finger directly at the target and just said "Incendia". This caused a jet of fire to leap from his finger and hit the target square on, setting it alight. "You see, if you simply wish to throw an element it is much easier to just point and say. Incidentally, the volume at which you say these one word spells affects the strength it has. So, if I were to shout the word, it would produce a very strong spell. For example..." Dominic, in a very quick motion, pointed to Jake and quietly said "Aqua". This caused a small jet of water to spray out over Jake, covering him in water but not exerting any pressure on him. He was raised his finger at Dominic and was about to retaliate when Dominic shouted "Wait! We have not established your natural power yet. Each and every mage has a different latent power. If you were to have a high latent power, you could kill me with nothing more than a loud whisper! So, what I need you to do is, in your normal conversation voice, try and put out that blaze." Jake hadn't realised but when Dominic hit the target with his fire blast, the straw within it had been set alight and was burning away at quite a rate. He stepped back into the booth, cleared his mind, pointed to the fire and said "Aqua" at which point a jet of water sprung out of his hand that was so powerful it threw him backwards. As for the target, his blast had not only put out the fire, but it had completely obliterated the target. "Dominic, I'm so sorry," said Jake as he scrambled to his feet "I didn't mean to break it. I just did what you told me to do." Dominic was in shock, never had he seen such power in one individual. "Jake, that was...amazing! I have never seen such power. You truly are destined to rule!" "You mean you aren't...you aren't angry that I broke the target." "Oh don't be ridiculous Jake," said Dominic as he waved his hand near the target and it rejuvenated to its original form. "Oh" was all Jake managed. "Jake, if I wanted to achieve that sort of power I would have to scream at the top of the voice. Do you realise what this means? You know all the language, you have extraordinary latent power...your training is going to be much shorter than even I imagined! Here, let's try some more powerful stuff. Hmm, what about levitating? Would you like to try levitating?" "Er, yeah, sure. Why not." "Ok, what you must do is stand with your palms facing towards each other, that way the magic you emit from your palms with be directed back towards you. Now, I want you to see if you can work out what you need to say." Jake stood as he was bidden and thought for a few minutes while Dominic patiently waited. "Navi (float)" said Jake but only too late he realised he had said it in his normal, conversational voice and consequently he shot up towards the ceiling at an alarming rate. He hit the ceiling with a thud and crashed back down to the floor. Luckily, Dominic had managed to produce a pile of pillows below him to break his fall. With a groan, Jake got to his feet and looked at Dominic in a daze. "Hmm," said Dominic "we need to find some way of blocking off your latent power unless you need it. For now, let's just see what you can do. I want you to try and create a pile of pillows like I just did." "Ok, give me a sec." Jake stood, thought for a second and then pointed at Dominic's pile of pillows and said "Abrogo (remove)" causing it to disappear and then, seconds later said "congeries, everri, produxi (pile, pillow, produce)" and this caused a pile of pillows, almost identical to Dominic's to appear where his had been. "Ah, very impressive. Ok, let's try hitting the target with a lightening bolt, using as much or as little power as you like." "Desumo" said Jake in a slightly loud voice while pointing at the target. His aim was perfect. The centre of the target was nothing but a charred crater in the straw. Jake, however, looked a little confused. "Hahaha, when I regenerated it, I reinforced the legs to stop it from falling over. Ok, repair it." "Renovo (repair)" said Jake as he pointed at the target and instantly the crater disappeared. "Excellent. I have one final test." Dominic pointed to the pile of pillows and they disappeared and then a huge pile of concrete appeared in their stead. "That," he said "is a block of the strongest, reinforced concrete that I could summon. Break it." Jake looked at the block, thought for a second, looked at Dominic, smiled, pointed at the block and shouted "Sepelio per auctorita de incendia (destroy with power from fire)". A swirling inferno erupted from Jake's finger and engulfed the concrete. About forty seconds later the fire disappeared and all that was left was a puddle of grey liquid on the floor. Authors note: Well I hope you all enjoyed it, I have no idea where I am going with this, but we shall see. As always I would relish ALL feedback at magesofcornelia@hotmail.co.uk. Also, I am looking for someone who would be prepared to be a proof reader for me as I don't currently have anybody who can do it person for me. So, if you would like to be a proof reader for me, please email me. In the unlikely event that more than one person emails me, I will just choose the first one. I hope you liked this chapter, i am still getting used to this and if it sucks (no pun intended) then i can only apologise. Thanks Guy x
