If you've seen the Mini-series, Which I highly recommend for just about anyone, I am setting out to write a story in that style. I'm not sure if I've succeeded, but I'm open to any comments from anyone either constructive, or critical; though the latter may not be responded to. The decks were bare and empty except the faint sound of the forced air. The lights turned off but for the corridors along the bridge and hangars. A mess of crates and cases locked and labeled for shipping in the holds. The crew quarters stripped of any evidence anyone had ever lived there. Amidst the cold grays and blues... there was a man; there was a boy. A sole man walked down the corridors of his ship. Now being decommissioned, he remembered the good times he had in this hunk of metal. Not just any heap of metal, one of the largest, fastest and most powerful capital ships in the fleet; though thought to be out-dated, hence the decommissioning to make way for something even better. "I'm gonna miss you, you old piece of shit." A young, pale, and frail boy walked behind him and stopped by the aging commander. "Oh come off it commander... it's just a ship. And I assure you, your new one will be just as big as this one; if not bigger!" He continued to walk ahead of the commander, running his hands along the metal as he nears the lift. "Along with your... promotion, you get to hand pick your crew..., sail the stars with no boundaries; no hesitation..." the commander looks up to the boy, who'd turned around to look him in the eye with a smirk on his pale face. "What more could you ask for?" "Out" The boy chuckled "If I had had my way... you would've never been in." "If you'd had it your way there would be a bullet between my eyes" he said with a huff. More chuckles, "A boy can dream can't he?" The boy walked at a faster pace now, backwards, facing the man. "Cheer up commander! It's going to be a fine day tomorrow." He entered the lift and had his finger at the button. "I can feel the winds' picking up... smell the ion in the air. A storm is coming Commander... And when it rains... it pours. And the door closed as the lift began its long decent. A boy of sixteen walked the streets of the military space port, in tow with his father. He was always in awe the scale of the port with everyone running around in perfect synchronization with each other; never any mishaps; never a mistake. He loved to come with his dad whenever he could which wasn't often enough. To come and see this, see behind the scenes, see the people with real power. "I understand that sir but I was-"his father talked into his phone, turning to grab his son by the collar and hurry him on. "Yes sir. I'll see you then." Away goes the phone. "Come on Luke, hurry your ass up!" Luke and his father neared a small but luxurious ship preparing to leave, when he couldn't help but notice a boy who looked about his age. He walked out of a drop-ship that just landed, towards an all black car; the pressurized air throwing his longish brown hair about, making him look all the more intimidating. Out of the car stepped a woman, who composed herself, said a few words to the boy, and headed our way. "Good afternoon, Mr. Bartelt. How are you?" "Just fine, Dr. Halsey, just fine. How was your trip?" "Longer than I remembered... It's been a long time." "That it has." Mr. Bartelt turned to the boy beside the woman he was just speaking to. "And who is this fine fellow?" "Ah! Forgive me; this is my son, Revan. Bit of a shy one; tired too." Revan's eyes moved from Luke to his father twice before looking off into space. The rest of the pleasantries were given and they boarded the ship and were seated. The ship took off. Luke was uncomfortable. Everyone around him, a man in a nice jacket, two women in equally nice attire, Dr. Halsey and her son, Revan; even his dad seemed to be in another world. Luke felt small. Even the boy his age seemed to give off this... feel of superiority. Revan crossed his legs, like his mother, and looked over at Luke; looked him over from head to toe and gave an amused huff when an attendant came to his side, whispered in his ear, and he nodded. As Revan got up and left behind the curtain, Luke turned his attention to the T. V. where a reporter was interviewing a celebrity who was about to start shooting a new movie aboard the famous ship: The Quiet Silhouette, which was being decommissioned. "Now we go to Cole Daley, star in an upcoming movie being filmed aboard the UNSC Quiet Silhouette. Cole, welcome to the show." "Thanks for having me Dianne." He sat in front of the camera in his own home; for yet another interview. He couldn't see what the big deal was. It was just a ship. A big one yes but, what made that so special? He tried his best to get out of it, but to no avail, here he was yet again. "Now we go to Cole Daley," a man walked up and counted down on his fingers, "star in an upcoming movie being filmed aboard the UNSC Quiet Silhouette." Three, "Cole, welcome", two, "to the show." One. "Thanks for having me Dianne." "I want you back on the ship for a re-shoot." "I wasn't to be back for three more days!" "I don't care I want a re-shoot. Understood?" Cole sighed. "Understood" "Good. Your shuttle is waiting for you. See you there." Cole hung-up the phone and threw it. "Fuck!" "Your sweet ass is just what I needed babe! Oh my God, do that again!" "Yeah?" "Yes!" "Do you love me, Cole?" His lover stopped and looked him in the eyes. He was caught off-guard, "What?" "Do you love me?" Cole was confused at the timing of the question. "Um... yeah of course. Now how about we-" "Do you love me?" more desperate than before; his big brown eyes focused on him. "Yes I love you! God I love you." Cole mounted his lover and 'made love' so passionately he almost blacked out. His lover's moans, groans, and screams of pure ecstasy could more than likely be heard across the lake. He lye sprawled out on his bed by the lake, covered by one flimsy, taupe colored sheet as he caressed his lover's beautiful brown, curly hair thinking, 'fuck that was good'. Cole continued to caress the beautiful body beside him, running the tips of his fingers along the fair skin as it rose, and fell; feeling the muscles move as the body settled for the night. He really didn't want to go back to work, but didn't know how he should bring the subject up. "So, you have anything planned for tomorrow?" "Actually I've got some personal errands to tend to." "Oh?" trying to sound slightly disappointed. "Sorry, I can't get around them. I've been putting it off but they're getting on my ass to get it done." The face looked up to him smiling. "You know I'd like nothing better than to spend the whole day with you..." "It's okay babe. I've got some work to do too." "Okay." Cole let loose a breath of relief and snuggled up to the source of the immense heat emanating from beside him, content with everything. "I love you Cole." He smiled to himself, "I love you too Alex." He could hear the sound of the silence. And then he could see himself on the beach, still holding his boyfriend. "Luke!" "What?" he yelled, equally as loud. "Hurry the fuck up. What's been keeping you? All day and yesterday you've just been, out of it." "I don't want to go with you. Why can't I stay?" "I don't trust you. Not since aft-" "My god! One small fire and now I can't be left in a room alone for more than five minutes!" "Just... come on! You'll enjoy it! I promise." He didn't reply. He followed is father out the door to the car where they drove off to the space port they had arrive at just yesterday. The blonde teen woke up to find his boyfriend had left already. He rolled over to where his body had been to try and smell him before he got up for work. The sheets were still warm; he hadn't been gone for very long. He rolled over to his back and stretched, staring at the ceiling. 9:12 AM the clock read. Walking into the kitchen, nude, Cole smelled coffee and saw bread by the toaster, and a bowl of cereal next to a glass of orange juice sitting on the island. He smiled to himself. He knew the coffee wasn't made so his boyfriend could drink it. But to smell it as he got ready in the morning, knowing full well Cole would drink it. The water stared at Cole, as Cole stared at it, with his coffee in hand. Today was going to be a long day, he thought. "How much longer dad?" "Will you just be patient Luke?" Luke started tapping his fingers on the sill of the window in the car. Then the car began to shake as he heard a deep roar. Looking out the window a black dropship flew dangerously close to the ground at a startling speed. He could feel an incredible sensation rushing up his spine. It flew off into the distance; where he was headed. "Shuttle to UNSC The Quiet Silhouette, dust off in 5 minutes. Standby..." The port was busy as usual, everyone in uniform, either navy blue dress, or a black Kevlar outfit. Two teenage boys sat across from each other, trying to think of a way to start a conversation without looking like an idiot. It was like they were in a world of their own, since they were obviously not welcome in the one everyone else was in right now. Luke wanted to get this over and done with so he could go home and see his Girl. Cole wanted to get back to see his boy. Both were not happy to be here and it showed. "Shuttle to UNSC The Quiet Silhouette now boarding..." After filming Cole ran off for a break and decided to tour the ship, which he wasn't supposed to do. People stopped and asked for autographs and some just shook their heads in disgust. It was cool anyway. He was in a ship built for the biggest of wars! After a few turns down a flight of stairs and taking the fasted ride on one of the coolest elevators, he was all-of-the-sudden, alone. A sign indicated he was nearing something called 'Engineering'. Sounded cool whatever it was. Cole continued 'till he heard footsteps and two people talking. A lot of it was muffled due to the echoes, but it sounded... interesting, so he continued till he caught up with the two people who were talking and walking along the corridor. Instantly he recognized the voice. He recognized the body, the ass, the hair, the laugh. What the fuck was he doing here? Cole panicked. He sat and went through the different reasons he would be here; talking with the Commander; alone. Cole got up and looked around the corner. They were gone. He pushed himself up and ran back to the lift. Luke was pissed. He lost his father. It had been hours and he was ready to go; or ready for something to fucking eat around here. He wandered around some looking for a sign or something. But most of the doors were closed. And they were big heavy looking doors. A man walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder. "Shit!" "Luke! Watch your mouth!" "Sorry dad... God, you just scared me" he said breathlessly. As he recovered he asked, "Dad I'm starved. When are we going to eat?" "Soon buddy. We're getting ready to find everyone to bring them to the mess hall for food." "Cool" As he said this he attention was grabbed by some commotion down the hall. He turned to see what it was, before he was dragged off by his stomach, in search for food. Cole rounded the corner a bit too fast and before he could see where he was going, he found himself on the floor, with his head pounding. As he got his bearings, he saw who he ran into; his boyfriend. The blonde was still too distracted by the pounding in his head to get up or say anything, but he did notice something that scared the shit out of him. As his boyfriend was trying to get up, rubbing his head, he lifted one leg up pulling up the leg of his pants on his other leg, revealing a rather small, but very shiny gun; strapped to his ankle; a beautiful ankle at that. Alex's big brown eyes met Cole's blue ones with a look Cole couldn't decipher. His boyfriend got up and offered him his hand; he took it. "Sorry about that." "Ah... No I'm sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going." He said still looking in his eyes. "You were going a little fast there too Mr. Daley" The commander added. With that, his lover extended his bony hand to him. "I don't think we've met... I'm Revan Halsey. You must be Cole Daley, yes?" Cole was now completely confused. He shook Alex's hand; or Revan's hand. "uh... yes. Cole Daley" The blonde kept shaking his hand while he was thinking 'till the brunette smiled more and tried to politely pull his hand away. "Commander, if I may?" "Yes ensign?" "You have a call." "Thank you." He nodded the messenger away and turned back to the boys. "Sorry, I need to take this. It was nice to meet you Mr. Daley." And he shook his hand. He turned to the brunette and nodded, "Revan." 'Revan' nodded back. "Commander." The older man walked away and vanished into the crowd. When he was gone Revan turned to his lover and looked him over with his eyes, looked to say something but decided not to. "Follow me" he said coldly. Cole did. "Sir?" The Bridge was sparse of men; quiet except for the beeps and whines of the machines that lived there. After spitting out a sheet of text, it was delivered to a surprised and skeptical Commander, who thought it over for a minute. "Re-key the engines and spool up our FTL drives." "May I ask why, Sir?" "Priority from Command... Plot a jump for Concordia." "What are we doing way out there?" "No enhancement." The Commander looked up from the sheet as if to say, 'don't ask; just do it.' "Yes sir." "I didn't know you were going to be here... I didn't know I was going to be here until the other day... What the fuck does it matter?" "You weren't supposed to be here when it happened!" He said slowly and calmly. "When what happens Alex!? Or Revan, or whatever the hell your name is... And why..." Cole paused to observe his surroundings before continuing, in a hushed voice, "Is there a fucking gun on your-" "Shhh!" Alex held is hand up to Cole's mouth and cocked his head; listening; his eyes moving all over the place, as if it were helping him listen. Cole stood there for a minute, waiting for him to continue. When his patience was up and his curiosity spiked he asked "What?" Alex didn't say anything, but started walking to the wall and put his hand on it. He chuckled. "We're moving." Cole was getting fed up. After another pause, he asked again. "What?" Alex started walking towards the lift smiling and laughing, and turned around when he realized Cole wasn't following; he was still trying to figure it out. "Come on!" He held out his hand, and when Cole caught up, took it and dragged him on the lift. He directed it to the top of the ship; the observation deck. "Alex, what the hell is going on?" To answer him, Alex leaned over and kissed him, and looked up to smile an unsettling smile. "It has begun..." "Quiet Silhouette, Blondie, I have visual contact... Moving in to assess visible damage." came over the loud-speaker. "Copy that, Blondie." replied Petty Officer Coelho. The commander paced back and forth, observing everyone at their posts. "Quiet Silhouette, Blondie, There are multiple spikes of radiation along the hull of the ship; maybe two, three nukes." There was a pause while the Commander looked up from his map. "No visible signs of life; still not squawking. Life pods are gone, but the Observation deck is still attached... Let me pull around to the hangar decks..." The commander motioned over to Lieutenant Lansing. Discreetly, he asked, or politely ordered, "Find me Revan Halsey; now." The man began to walk away before the commander grabbed him by the arm, and leaned into his ear. "...Quietly." "Hangar decks are sealed, hard. There's an excessive amount of heat emanating from the engines, though the ship is not moving..." There was a sudden flash of blinding light. A few seconds later, the commander was thrown over the table, by an immense shuddering of the ship. "What exactly am I looking at?" "A ship." "Well I can see that..." "Look closer." Cole looked but wasn't seeing whatever it was he was supposed to be seeing. So Cole sighed, "I don't know what it is I'm to be looking for. It's just a ship; a very beaten up one." "It's the UNSC Longshot." Alex looked over to finish. "Ring any bells?" "Uh... yeah. Wasn't it escorting a large portion of the Political Cabinet?" "Everyone significant under the President to be exact, in an FTL capable ship docked inside the Longshot. Or at least it was." "Well then where is it now?" "Honestly... I don't know." Alex brushed the stray hair from Cole's blue eyes, before smiling and composing himself. "But I'm going to find out." Cole was confused as hell. Alex was really starting to freak him out, and this wasn't helping. He was nervous, so he was tapping his foot, and his palms were sweaty. Something was terribly wrong here; and his boyfriend knew something he didn't. It seemed he practically knew everything, and it was scarring him. Alex pulled up Cole's hand and moved his sleeve up his arm, to presumably look at his watch, and began counting. "Ten, nine, eight, seven," "Alex why are you counting?" "Six, five, four, three," "Revan Halsey? I'm here to escort you to the bridge." Alex looked over to the Lieutenant and then back to Cole, and placed his hands on his head and moved it into his chest away from the window. "Two, one." The light was blinding, even so his eyes were closed. Everything was quiet, except for the beat of Alex's heart. Then when the light died down, and an intense wave of energy crashed into the ship, it flashed again, yellow, and red this time. Then blue, until there was a faint light at where the ship used to be. Cole couldn't feel his legs. Please Let me know if you would like me to continue the story... All e-mails should be sent to chancellnifty@aim.com Thanks...
