Sweet Sixteen - by tim
I was awoken in the morning by shouting from my older brother Dave.
"Get out of that bed you little dickhead!" yelled Dave.
"What!?!" I exclaimed. "What did I do?"
"You know what you did you asshole!" yelled Dave even louder. "Just listen to this!" Then Dave turned on the radio.
"Good morning mid-Michigan, if you can possibly call it a good morning by now!" blared the deejay. "It's once again September 16th, thanks to Tim. This one is just for you, you little dork! It's the Rolling Stones with, You Can't Always Get What You Want. I sincerely hope you have as nice of a day as the rest of the world will have!"
"Oh my God!" I screamed in a state of shock. "How can everyone know!?!"
"Don't give me that bullshit!" yelled Dave. "You had us all fooled too! We felt so sorry for the pathetic little asshole! Do you think for one minute that I want to be seventeen forever!?! I should beat your little ass for you Tim!"
I jumped out of the bed and threw my clothes on as quickly as I could. Then I ran to the kitchen pleading, "Mom! Mom! You have to help me! Please help me mom!"
My mom saw me and said, "I don't know what you expect me to do, you're the one who stopped time for the whole world!"
"I didn't mean to do it though mom!" I cried out.
"What did you think would happen when you wished to be sixteen forever Tim?" asked my mom. "Did you really think that time would go back and stop for only you?"
"I didn't think it would happen mom!" I now sobbed. "I was just so tired of being old. I'm sorry, that didn't come out right. I was two years away from being as old as you are now though."
"No one likes growing old Tim, but it's a fact of life." said my mom in a motherly tone. "You can't punish the whole world because you don't like getting older. Do you realize what you've done now? No more birthdays, or Christmas, or elections. We're stuck with Ford as our President forever now Tim. There are people out there that will hate you just for that alone!"
"How can I undo what I've done mom?" I pleaded. "I tried to wish things back to normal last night, but it didn't work!"
"I don't even know how you got back to sixteen in the first place Tim." said my mom. "How am I suppose to know how you can fix things? I do know that Willard was very upset when he left for work this morning though. I hate to say this but I hope you enjoy driving the car today, because he may take it away from you when you get home."
As I got ready to go to school I thought, "How could this be happening? It wasn't suppose to be this way. Everything is falling apart on me!" I only hoped that Dean would be able to help me when I picked him up. I got in my car and drove to Dean's house in a state of panic. Finally I pulled into his driveway and honked my horn. Dean didn't come out though, instead I was met by his mother.
"Hello Tim." sneered Dean's mother. "Dean already left for school, and he doesn't want to see you until he starts growing up again. Now, please leave before I forget how to be civil."
"Does everyone in the world hate me now?" I thought over and over, as I drove to school. When I arrived at vocational school, I began to get my answer. No one there would talk to me, or even acknowledge my existence. I began to feel more alone than I had ever felt in my life. After Graphic Arts class was over for the day, I glumly drove back to my regular school. By the time I arrived there I knew that I only had one hope left in the world. If Pete wouldn't listen to me, my life would no longer be worth living. I immediately went in search of the boy that I loved, and finally found him sitting alone under a tree.
"Pete, please talk to me!" I begged. "Everyone hates me now. Please don't hate me too!"
"Okay Tim, I'll talk to you." said Pete unenthusiastically.
"Please Pete!" I said desperately. "I love you more than anyone I know. I would never do anything to hurt you intentionally, I would rather hurt myself first. To think that I might have hurt someone that I love as much as you is almost unbearable."
"What are you?" asked Pete. "Are you some kind of dirty old man who likes little boys? How old are you really Tim? Do you even know anymore?"
"Pete!" I cried. "I'm only sixteen, and there's nothing dirty about the way I love you! Please don't hate me too!"
"Do you know how painful my childhood has been so far Tim?" asked Pete. "I was really looking forward to growing up, and the sooner the better! I was kinda looking forward to growing older with you too, but you fixed it so I can't do that either!"
"Everyone makes the same wish I made when they get older Pete." I begged. "It doesn't come true for anyone else, but it came true for me. I never once thought that it would, but it did and I don't know how to fix it. Please help me fix it so we can grow old together Pete. I love you and you're the person I want to fix this for the most!"
"I'll have to think about it Tim." said Pete flatly. "I'll try not to hate you in the meantime, but I really wish you could fix this."
Pete then got up and walked away sadly. I had to find a way to fix this for him, even if he would never love me again. I couldn't imagine any way this day could get any worse than it already was, but it was still early.
I walked to the shop class, drained of all emotions and energy. As soon as I got there I was met by a chorus of young boos. The shop teacher then asked me to leave his classroom. News was getting around school that the President was going to address the country this afternoon, and a special assembly had been called for the next period so all the students and teachers could watch the address together. I numbly walked around the schoolyard with my head down and kicking rocks until then. When I walked into the gymnasium I was met by the now familiar booing and hissing.
"And now here's the President of the United States." said the television announcer.
"Good afternoon my fellow Americans." said President Ford. "As everyone knows by now, time has been stopped all over the world by a very selfish boy named Tim. I have been in talks all morning with the Senate, and with leaders from around the world about this problem. I have reached an important conclusion, along with Premier Breshnev of the Soviet Union. We have agreed that the world cannot allow this condition to continue. If we cannot get time to start moving forward again, the United States and the Soviet Union will launch their entire nuclear arsenals. If we cannot restart time, we will end it."
Everyone in the gymnasium had their eyes wide open in fear. Several kids looked at me and started crying uncontrollably. The press that was covering the President's address was screaming and shouting in complete mayhem.
When order had been restored at the address, the President continued, "I assure everyone that this is a very last resort. We are going to try to restart time first. At this moment a team of federal agents are closing in on the school that Tim attends. They have orders to remove Tim from the school and kill him. We hope that time will restart again when Tim is dead."
I jumped up and screamed, "Noooo!"
As I took off toward the gymnasium door several kids tried to stop me, but I reached the door first. I ran faster than I thought I could to my car and jumped in, then started the engine. I was now very glad that my dad had got me a Camaro, but I had no idea how I would survive on the run.
"They can't be crazy enough to nuke the world because of me!" I screamed as I thrust the gas pedal to the floor.
Rocks flew all over the parking lot as I made my escape. As I swung wildly out onto the road I noticed a fleet of police cars, along with what appeared to be a number of government vehicles, bearing down on my small school. I had to lose them quickly so I took off toward an area with many back roads, and that I knew well. One by one, the cars following me lost the chase. Just as I began wondering if I could pull it off, I lost the last car following me. At only sixteen I was now the world's most wanted fugitive. I had never been in any serious trouble in my life, but now I was on the run and I needed money to survive on.
I reluctantly agreed that stealing would be my only chance to survive, but I needed to arm myself first. Before doing that I begged God one more time to end this madness, but I received no reply. I knew the cops would be waiting at my house, but I knew someone else that was always well armed. When I got there I found that no one was home, so I carefully snuck in and found what I was looking for. I couldn't stand the thought of what I was about to do, but I was now about to become a wanted felon anyway. My first target would be a very busy convenience store near the freeway, as they were sure to have plenty of money. I pulled up to the gas pumps and nonchalantly filled my car with gas. Then I went inside.
As I stepped up to the counter, I took out the gun I had stolen and screamed, "Everyone on the floor now, except for you!" I then waved the gun wildly at the clerk. "You better fill this bag full of money now!"
As soon as the clerk had put all of the money into the bag I handed him, I ran from the store. I jumped into my car and sped away as quickly as I could, not even knowing where I would go next. Once I was well enough away from the store I stopped quickly to fasten my seatbelt, just in case. Then I took off again. Just as I thought I might actually get away with what I was doing, a police car pulled up behind me. He immediately turned on his flashing lights, so I floored the gas pedal.
I tried as hard as I could to lose this cop, but he was very good at his job. He stayed almost glued to my rear bumper no matter what I did. "How could this happen to a sixteen year old kid?" I thought to myself as I tried to lose the cop. I was going to have to do something drastic to lose this cop, so I looked for a good place to do it. Then I came toward an intersection that I knew. If I was going to lose the cop, it had to be here. I just hoped that my car could hold onto the road as I tried to pull this off. Before I tried to attempt this maneuver, I thought about being able to see Pete's sweet face one more time before disappearing from society. "I have to make it!" I thought to myself.
As I whipped the car around the corner faster than I thought possible, the cop began falling back. Then I felt the car trying to get away from me. As I felt it begin to roll, I closed my eyes and lowered myself in the seat. I don't know how many times the car rolled down the roadway, as I awaited the jolt that would end this nightmare once and for all. My car finally came to rest though, upside down and off the side of the road. I looked around for the gun I had, but it could not be found. I was now beaten, so I reluctantly crawled from my demolished car. When I stood up the cop had his gun aimed at my head, just out of arms reach.
"I'm gonna be a hero when I blow your head off boy!" bragged the cop lewdly.
"Go ahead then you asshole!" I screamed. "What the fuck makes you think I want to live like this anyway?"
Even though I really wanted to throw up, I looked at the cop coldly. He looked back at me, as he aimed the gun carefully at my forehead. When I heard him pull the trigger back, everything suddenly went black.
I awoke to find the nightmare that I had was so awful and intense, that it made me wet my bed during the night. Of course my brother's radio was blaring away.
"Good morning mid-Michigan!" the announcer almost screamed into the microphone. "It's Thursday September 17th, and it's such a beautiful morning! I'm feeling so alive this morning that I'm going to play Chicago's hit, Alive Again!"
I laid in my soiled bed and smiled as I thought, "Peter Cetera has never sounded better!" Then I stripped the sheets from the bed, took a shower, and got dressed for school. I was exactly one day older today, and I had never felt better in my life. I sang loudly along with the car radio, as I drove to Dean's house that morning. I pulled into Dean's driveway and rhythmically honked the horn.
Before Dean came out of his house, I looked up and said, "Thank you God, I'll never mess with time again!"
Dean came out and hopped into my car, then said, "Hey Tim! What's the really goofy looking smile for?"
"I just feel like smiling today." I replied.
"Well, knock it off before someone thinks we're doing something weird!" laughed Dean.
The entire day was wonderful. Even the little monsters in shop class couldn't spoil my mood today, although they did try. Bless their little hearts! The best part of the day though was last period. I smiled bigger than I had all day when Pete walked into the classroom.
"How's my best friend in the whole world today?" asked Pete.
"I don't have any idea." I replied as I continued to smile. "When I see him, I'll make sure to ask though!"
This threw Pete off a little, so he really wasn't prepared when I stood up and gave him a friendly hug right there in the classroom.
Pete then sat down next to me and whispered to my brother, "I think your brother is on something today Deano."
"Nah," replied Deano, "He's been known to act goofy every once in a while."
Nothing phased me though, as I just sat there and smiled. It must have been contagious, because Pete finally couldn't help but to smile himself. I know it didn't look good to the other kids, but I didn't care. Besides, Pete had the absolute cutest smile in the world! When the class was over and we started leaving, I dragged Pete over to our spot where no one could see or hear us. Then I gave him a quick kiss on the lips.
"Pete, could you do me a favor?" I asked.
"You know I will, especially when you kiss me!" replied Pete. "What is it?"
"Would you ask your mom, or better yet, beg your mom to let you spend the night at my house on Friday night?" I asked.
"Only if you'll tell me what the goofy smile was about today while I'm there." replied Pete. "Why do you want me to spend the night Friday anyway Tim?"
"Because I want to teach you how to make love to me!" I replied. "And you'd think I was crazy if I told you what the smile was about."
"You mean like real sex?" asked Pete as his eyes bulged. "You and me? Having sex together?"
"That's the idea." I giggled.
"I'm so there man!" exclaimed a now excited Pete.
How'd I do? lol. I hope you liked the little twist I threw in this one, it gave me shivers as I wrote it. Please send all comments to: Timthestoryguy10@cs.com . See you again in Chapter 6.
