Chapter 3: A New Friend, Games, Prizes, and `Embarrassment'!

Wow a whole $20, I have never had so much money before. The most I would get out of Mom would be around $2, one time she did give me $5. Once, Grandmother sent me to pick up a few things from the corner market. For that trip I was handed a $10 bill, but then again it really wasn't mine. This $20 bill though was all mine to spend anyway I liked. Though I really wasn't sure if I wanted to spend it all here. A part of me was afraid to spend it, thinking that Dad may come and ask for it back. I was afraid he would say it was a mistake to give me so much money.

I finally decided to take the $20 bill up to the `Prize Counter' and ask for change. I figured maybe I will use a few dollars of the money and that way I would have most of it left, to either spend or save.

As I approached the counter I told myself that I should double check and count the change I receive back. I hated to admit it, but I wasn't so good with math. I know the easy stuff but I have made mistakes before. Mostly because of not taking my time and counting slowly.

"Hi, can I get change for this?" I asked as I presented the $20 bill to the man behind the counter.

The man never said a word to me; he just took the $20 from me and then placed it in the cash register. Then he counted out a bunch of bills and handed them all to me. As I promised myself, I examined every bill. I found three $5 bills and five $1 bills. Using my fingers I counted the money all up and was sure that I received the correct amount of change for my $20 bill.

"Thank you sir," I said before running towards the games. As I turned and started to run from the counter, I finally heard the man speak to me.

"You're welcome kid, but please don't run! We don't want to see you get hurt." The man said loudly in order for me to hear it.

I did hear him so I immediately stopped running and just started walking as fast as I could. I was hoping to play Skeeball first and silently wishing that there was an open one that no one else was playing. I wouldn't mind playing against someone, but to be honest I haven't played the game in a while, so I was probably a little rusty.

Before I could play any of the games though, I needed to get some tokens. At first I was just going to change a couple $1 bills into tokens, until a kid walked up behind me, waiting his turn to also get some tokens.

"You know you should use one of the Fives instead of the Ones, as you will get a lot more tokens for your money." The kid explained to me as I was about to put one of the $1 bills into the machine.

"You do? How many more do I get?" I asked the boy.

"It says right there on the machine." The boy said pointing to the spot where it supposedly gave this information.

I looked to where the boy was pointing and then whispered in defeat, "Oh."

The problem was that I was even worse at reading then I was at math, because of this I only recognized a few words. I knew what the word token looked like so that one was easy and I recognized a few more. I decided to try and sound out the words, but silently as I didn't want the boy behind me to know I couldn't read so good.

The first word was a real hard one, "Rec-kieve" I tried sounding it out. "Now that doesn't sound right!"

At first I didn't realize that I had made my comment out loud. It was the boy responding to me that made me realize that I had indeed spoken out loud rather than to myself.

"What doesn't sound right?" The boy asked me, giving me a puzzled look.

"Damn" I thought to myself. "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" I repeated silently.

The boy was still looking at me quizzically and I knew I would have to tell him something. Here I was standing in front of the token machine and staring at it for way too long. I figured that the boy was probably upset having to wait so long to get his tokens."

"Uh, why don't you go ahead of me, so I don't hold you up." I offered to the boy.

"What's wrong?" The boy asked me. "Do you need help or something?"

"I... I... I..." I stammered, as I really didn't know what to tell him.

"Are you okay?" The boy asked with compassion.

There was no way I wanted to tell this complete stranger that I could barely read. I didn't care how nice he sounded. I really meant to not say anything about my shortcoming. As I opened my mouth to tell the boy some lie, I was shocked at what then came out from between my lips. "I can't read so well." I whispered just loud enough for him to hear.

"What the hell!" I thought to myself. "Why did you say that?" My brain asked my mouth. Of course my mouth didn't have any better of an answer than I did.

I really didn't know why I told him that. I guess I was just so frustrated, that before I could stop myself, out it came. At least I whispered it so no one else could hear, at least I hoped that was the case. Still, admitting that I can't read so well to this boy whom I did not know, was very embarrassing.

Tears welled up in my eyes and though I tried to stop it my bottom lip quivered a little. At least I wasn't bawling, still I couldn't keep the tears from rolling down my cheeks. Now not only does this boy know I can't read, well I can a little bit. Now he is watching me cry like a baby.

"Of course," I told myself, "it wasn't far from the truth." Using the back of my hand I tried to wipe away the tears only to have more run down my cheeks.

"Hey, don't cry. I won't make fun of you." The boy said with a smile. "My name is Billy, what's yours?" Billy asked while offering his hand to shake.

Still trying to wipe away the tears with one hand I used my other one to shake Billy's hand. "My name's Davey," I told Billy. "I am sorry for acting like a big baby." I said quietly enough so that only he could hear.

"No problem Davey, we all cry at times, please don't feel like you are all alone." Billy said calmly. "Hey if you want I can tell you what it says." Billy added, trying to be helpful. I also saw his smile turn into a large grin.

"Thanks, I can read some of it but I was having some trouble, especially with the first word. I guess I am stupid for not being able to read it myself. Other kids like to make fun of me about it when they find out." I said still feeling a little embarrassed. At least my leaking tears finally stopped but I knew they could easily restart with my current emotional condition.

"I understand Davey, don't you worry. I promise I will not make fun of you." Billy said, and as an afterthought added, "If I do then you have the right to slug me." Billy lost his grin for a second as he gave me a look of seriousness.

When Billy told me I had the right to punch him I instantly smiled. I then rubbed away the last few straggling tears from my face.

Billy then again smiled, which quickly became a large grin. I am not sure why but I instantly knew that I had made my first real friend. Well take that back, Billy would be my second real friend, but then maybe my first doesn't count any longer. I could tell this kid was a very nice person and felt I could almost trust him with anything. There was also something else about this kid but I couldn't put my finger on it. It wouldn't be until later when I finally figured out what it was.

"Thank you," I repeated.

"Okay it says, `Receive five tokens for every dollar bill. When you use a Five Dollar bill you will receive thirty tokens, which is six tokens per dollar. When you use a Ten Dollar bill you will receive seventy tokens which is seven tokens per dollar. When you use a Twenty Dollar bill you will receive a hundred and sixty tokens, which is 8 tokens per dollar. This token machine only accepts bills up to a $20. If you need smaller change, please visit the prize counter.'" Billy looked at me again as he finished reading what was said on the token machine. When he looked at me I could see he was still grinning. "You see what I mean when I told you to use your $5 bill instead of the Ones. You can get one more token per dollar doing it that way, so it is giving you 5 extra tokens." Billy explained, not once talking down to me, considering my lack of reading skills. "Oh by the way, you might want to use one of these cups to hold all your tokens in. Of course you could stick them into your pocket, but I have always hated the feeling of how they bounce all over your leg when you walk; that is, when you have a lot of them. For a few I would of course recommend your pocket." Billy explained while grabbing one of the cups.

"I see what you mean, thank you! I really appreciate your help." I said and I grabbed my own cup and set it on the machine next to where the tokens come out. I then stuck one of the $5 bills in the token machine. A second later I saw and heard several tokens falling. At first I was going to count every token as I put it in the cup one at a time, but then I remembered that I was holding up the line. I knew Billy was hoping to get his tokens as well along with two more kids who just now walked up behind Billy. A brief second went by and then I made my decision and started grabbing the tokens and dumping them into my cup. I decided to go ahead and trust they were all there.

As I started to leave Billy said, "Hey Davey wait a minute, I was wondering if you would like to play some games together?" Billy asked while still grinning at me.

At first I wasn't sure what to say. Truthfully I wanted to have a chance to play a few games by myself. That way I could make sure that I didn't embarrass myself too much until I got my groove back. After all it had been quite a while since I played these types of games. In fact it had been a long while. At the same time, another part of me thought it would be rude to not accept his invitation. My biggest hold out though was that I really didn't want to embarrass myself anymore in front of this boy. Then again he hadn't made fun of me about my reading problem, so he probably wouldn't make fun of me if I stunk with the games. I also liked the kid and really wanted to explore a possible friendship, no matter how short term it might be.

I finally made my decision, "okay, sounds great. Do you mind if we play Skeeball first, as it is my favorite?" I asked Billy.

"Sure, sounds like a plan. Why don't you head over there and see if we can grab one of them." Billy stated in a questionable way.

"Okay I said, I guess I will be seeing you in a minute then." I said then started to make my way over to the Skeeball games.

We were in luck, it turned out that there was one available so I put my cup down on the side of the game and checked to see how many tokens it took. "Great only three tokens," I said to myself.

I decided to go ahead and get my turn ready and stuck three of my tokens into the game and heard the balls drop and roll down to where we can then pick them up.

I only had to wait a few moments before Billy approached with his own cup of tokens. I noticed that he was still grinning at me. I had to wonder if this grin was permanently glued on his face. I knew he hadn't been grinning when we first met but since then, the grin has been on his face.

I thought to myself, "was his face frozen that way shortly after he smiled at him."

As I was wondering this he walked up next to me and set his cup on the other side of the machine. I almost blurted out the thought I was having about his grinning face but at the last second, was thankful that I stopped it in time.

"Great, you found one! It is rare to find an empty Skeeball game. My experience has usually been that you have to wait in line!" He hollered," I guess he forgot I was standing right next to him. He still had that grin plastered on his face. "Hey by the way, I was going to ask you how old you were. I had planned to do it while we were at the token machine. I am 11 years old and I am here on vacation with my brother and parents." Billy happily announced. "What about you?" He then asked me.

"Well... ' I started to say but was interrupted.

"Now that is a deep subject there!" Billy said laughingly, while grinning even wider yet.

I too couldn't help smiling at that one, but I didn't bust up laughing like Billy did. I decided to let him get over his laughing fit before I said anything. Instead I decided to go ahead and roll my first ball down the lane, hoping to get it right smack in the middle of the bull's-eye. Like I thought though, I was a little rusty and ended up with five points. I looked over to Billy who's laughing finally ceased, but that wasn't the reason why I was looking at him. In fact I was trying to see if he was going to make fun of me for my bad roll. I was glad when I could see that I had been right. Billy was not the type who would laugh at other people and would not make fun of me. Even though he still did, have that damn stupid grin on his face.

"Don't worry you will do better next time." Billy tried to comfort me. "By the way you going to tell me your age?" asked Billy as if he were begging to know the answer.

"`Damn it' Billy, if you give me a chance, I will!!!" I stated harshly.

You know what amazed me the most, after blowing up at Billy, he was still grinning madly. My outburst hadn't even fazed him. I guess I had been looking at him strangely, because once again he started laughing.

"Oh my god, that was hilarious. By the way Davey, the way you are drooling there, you are going to drown us both!" Billy teased.

"Man this kid is one strange one," I thought. I then wiped the drool from my mouth and then wiped my hand dry on my jeans.

"Oh man that was gross Davey!" Billy shrieked through his laughter. I was sure someone must have heard him, but when I looked around us I saw no-one looking our way.

"So are you going to tell me or not?" Billy harped, "or do I have to start tickling it out of you!" As he started to lunge towards me, I knew I better tell him what he wanted and fast. I really didn't want to become the center of attention.

"I'm almost 12." I said answering Billy's question. "I am here on vacation with my dad and my Uncle Justin." I explained to him while kinda stretching the truth a little, well maybe actually a lot. I really did not want to tell him the real reason I was here. I didn't care how accepting he was, there is just some stuff that is `personal'.

"Cool," he answered back, again still grinning.

Something about that grin was a little unsettling. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it almost seemed fake. Of course that could all be from the fact that I still am not as trusting of other people as I figured I should be. I have even found myself at many times not being as open with Dad as I should be. He doesn't yet even know about how bad I was with school, and how I know less then I should. I decided for the time being to just accept that the grin on his face was normal for him. I decided to not let it bother me and to let it go. I went ahead and grabbed my next ball, aiming carefully for the middle hole; I started to make my roll.

"So when do you turn 12?!" Billy bellowed in my ear, and out of the blue. The question startled me a little and made me lose concentration as I sent my ball down the lane.

"Damn," I said as I watched my ball enter the 5 point hole again.

Billy looked like he was about to say something but he stopped as I glared at him with frustration. For the first time since I met him (besides only a brief moment while at the token machine), I saw him without that weird grin on his face. Instead of the grin he was now frowning. I know it sounds kinda weird, but I was happy that this boy was no longer staring at me, with that fake looking, plastered grin of his.

"Sorry man, I didn't mean to make you mess up." Billy said as if he were angry, though not at me, but at himself. "I'll tell you what; I will give you all my tickets from my first game."

I was fuming a little, upset that he made me mess up. I know it's just a game, but after everything else, I really wanted to show I was good at something. Even his offer to give me his tickets didn't seem enough. I guess this is because no matter how many tickets he gave me; it could never bring back my dignity. I then remembered how accepting Billy was of me and my problems. I knew it wouldn't be right not to return the kindness that he showed me.

I took a breath and then slowly let it out along with my anger. As if it were magic, all the anger was gone. This technique was actually something that Dr. Brice showed me how to do. I was as amazed how good this technique worked while standing there with Billy, as I was the first time with Dr. Brice. I guess you could say that she has helped me out with a few things here and there.

No longer angry and upset, I was able to smile a little. Billy was standing there looking at me with a confused expression on his face. I could tell he wanted to ask me something, but it appeared he was too afraid to go through with asking the question that was on his mind.

"I'm okay, it was my fault, I kinda forgot my surroundings." I explained to Billy. "As for when I turn 12, my Birthday is less than two months away." I added, answering the question he had asked.

"Cool! Mine is six and a half months away," he stated excitedly. "I was born on leap year. You know February 29th; it only comes around every 4 years. So even though I will be celebrating my 12th Birthday, it will have only been my 3rd actual Birthday." Billy said still excited. I also noticed that the Grin was back.

"That is kinda cool," I agreed.

I then reached down and picked up my next ball. Before I aimed it for my throw down the lane, I turned around and put my finger in front of my lips. I could see that he recognized the universal sign of quiet and he returned it with another well-known sign. He was pretending he was pulling an imaginary zipper across his mouth. He did this to let me know that he wouldn't say anything while I made my shot.

Concentrating and aiming very carefully, I sent my next ball down the alley. "YEAH!" I screamed when I hit the bull's-eye.

"That was amazing Davey, I don't think I have ever been able to get the Bull's-eye before." Billy exclaimed with amazement.

I was excited and ecstatic that I was able to not only show someone else that I was good at something, but it also went a long way towards helping my self-esteem. I had taken a lot of hits today which made me feel little and helpless, more like the baby my mind sees me as. This was exactly what I needed to boost my spirit and help me feel more confident.

As I glanced around the noisy room filled with the loud voices of happy children, I told myself that things could only get better. If only I could see in the future, then I would know how far from the truth it was. At this time though, I did not have the power of sight. I couldn't see in the future and know what it held for me. All I knew was, that I was happy. In a little over an hour, I would find out how untrue the happy thoughts of things only getting better, really was.

--------------------------------------------------

Over the next twenty minutes or so Billy and I played several of the games in the game room.

Of course we did play a few games of Skeeball to start with which I, after a rocky start killed Billy on. After my first bulls-eye I continued to hit the bulls-eye at almost every throw and started to rack up the tickets. Billy like he said was pretty lousy at Skeeball, and of course like any kid, his being lousy, made me more proud of my skill. Even so Billy still did good enough to earn him quite a few tickets.

As he promised, Billy tried to give me all of his tickets from his first game. "Here take these," Billy prodded while trying to hand me his tickets.

"Billy that is nice of you, but I don't feel right taking them from you." I said humbly. "Besides I really didn't earn them, and who knows I may have still missed even without the interruption of my concentration." I explained trying to still sound humble.

"But I promised you that I would and I don't Welch on a promise!" Billy said adamantly.

"How about a compromise and we just split the tickets?" I suggested.

Billy quickly agreed to the terms I just suggested and we split the tickets from his first game. As our ticket numbers grew, the more our greed increased.

We both had taken a look at the prize counter before we met each other at the token machine. In fact Billy had gone up as I was leaving, well at that moment running. Each of us had been drooling over some of the more expensive prizes that took hundreds of tickets even a few that went into the thousands. This of course meant a lot of repeat customers as there was hardly any way that anyone could earn that many tickets in one night, no matter how good they were.

Since we knew that the higher costing prizes were beyond our reach we focused on the ones that were possible. I had my eyes on a cool Transformer, I wasn't sure what its name was, I only knew it was a jet and a Decepticon. Besides the Transformer toys which by the way I owned none, I loved the cartoon and watched it as often as I could.

After we were done with Skeeball we went over to the Romper Stomper games and reserved the next game available. While waiting, we both (Billy and I) went to the prize counter where I showed Billy the cool Transformer that I wanted. Billy also reminded me of the Transformers name, which was Star Scream.

Billy on the other hand had his eye on a cool looking Yo-Yo. I was not sure what his fascination was with Yo-Yos, all I can say was that I could tell there was a lot that he wasn't willing to tell me about right now. Even though I was sure he wanted the Yo-yo, Billy instead started to look at a cool looking Lego Star Wars set.

Billy's interest in the Yo-Yo begged to be told, but I knew it would be rude to just come out and ask. I was sure, that if he felt it were okay or necessary to tell me about his fascination with the Yo-Yo, he would then tell me. After salivating, we decided to go back over to the Romper Stomper games and was in luck to get there as our game we reserved came free.

Unlike with Skeeball, my reflexes were awful and therefore I was terrible at Romper Stomper. Billy though, made the all time highest score for that location. My Romper Stomper skills were nowhere as good as Billy's Skeeball skills, therefore I really didn't earn a lot of tickets there.

After several games of Romper Stomper and being beaten every time, Billy and I tried the other games in the kid friendly hamburger joint. Some of these games I did really good on and others, Billy was good on.

I soon found myself out of tokens and hadn't realized how close I had been to spending all of the twenty five tokens, until they were gone. Without even thinking twice I went back to the machine and popped into the machine another $5 bill and received another 25 tokens. Billy also did the same.

We continued to play the games and earn tickets. There were quite a few games that I really liked but right off the top of my head, can't remember the names of.

We were having so much fun neither of us was paying attention to how fast we were burning through our tokens. In fact, neither of us had even been looking into our cups as we grabbed more and more tokens. It wasn't until we scraped the bottom of the cup before we realized we were out.

"Darn I'm out!" Billy said disappointedly.

"Well let's go get's some more," I answered wanting to quickly get back to the games.

I was really having a lot of fun and really enjoyed Billy's company. He was fun to be around and he was very accepting and nice. I really didn't have to much experience with nice kids. In fact most of the ones I have been around were far from nice.

The only thing that really bothered me was his constant grinning. Now he wasn't doing it all the time I noticed, but he definitely was doing it quite a lot. He always seemed to do it when he was looking at me. I also had a feeling that he was looking at me strangely when I wasn't looking at him. The problem was, every time I tried to catch him in the act, he would be looking the other way, or at the last second change his expression. Again I decided to let it go for now and headed for the token machine.

"Umm Davey, I am out of money. I really enjoyed playing with you; maybe we will get lucky and meet again." Billy said sadly. "I guess I should go cash my tickets in," Billy sighed.

"Wait!" I couldn't let Billy leave me now; we were having way too much fun. "I got $10 still left we can get some more tokens and split them." I suggested.

"I don't know, I really shouldn't; besides my parents will probably want to leave soon." Billy said in a defeated voice.

"Oh come on, if your parents were leaving they would come and get you for sure." I said in exasperation. I then felt worried as another thought crossed my mind. "Don't you want to play with me anymore?" I asked almost crying again.

"Well sure, I just don't want to take your money." Billy admitted.

"You're not taking it! I am giving it to you!" I pouted.

"Well I guess if you don't care than... sure why not." Billy said again grinning. "Come on slow poke let's get going." Billy teased as he started to move towards the end of the room where the token machine was.

"Wait!" I said all of a sudden. "I only have the one $5 bill and the five $1 bills left. Maybe we should change the $1 bills into another $5 bill." I suggested.

"Man that's a good idea but did you forget what I told you about the savings at the token machine?" Billy asked me as we started to head towards the prize counter.

I was kind of confused at his question as I really wasn't remembering what he was talking about. Still I really didn't want to seem dumb so I decided to play it like I did know what he meant. "Well Duh! Why would you think I would forget such a thing?" I said in hopes that he would give me a hint at what in the world he was talking about.

As I was looking at him for any possible clues at what this discussion was about, I once again noticed the grin. "Man" I thought to myself, "this kid's grin is really starting to creep me out." As I was thinking these thoughts Billy had stopped and was staring more intently at me.

"You have no idea what I am talking about, do you?" Billy asked through that grin.

"Ah... not really," I admitted. For some reason now my eyes were not able to leave the grin on his face.

"I had told you how you can get more tokens for bigger bills, so if we use a $10 bill instead of two $5 bills, we will get more tokens for our money. So we need to turn in both the $5 bill and the $1 bills and get a $10 bill instead." Billy reminded me.

He looked at me for confirmation and I barely nodded my head as my eyes and mind were now focused big time on that silly grin. "Why did this grin bother me so much?" I asked myself as I followed Billy towards the prize counter to get our $10 bill. Even though he was ahead of me now and I was staring at the back of his head, I was still picturing that grin that I knew was still there on his face.

We were almost to the counter when I could stand it no longer. "Man Billy! Why do you keep grinning like that, it is really starting to give me the heebie-jeebies!" I exclaimed loudly, loud enough that several of the nearby kids looked in our direction. This unwanted attention made me even more uncomfortable.

This did get Billy's attention. He looked at me for a minute and changed direction, now heading towards an empty table far enough from any prying ears. As he sat down and I followed suit, I saw him sigh and then looked me straight into my eyes.

"Davey I am sorry, I haven't been quite honest with you. You see we were passing your car as you and I guess was your Dad and Uncle was getting out of it. I wasn't quite sure..." Billy paused for a moment and I was starting to get worried about what he was going to say next. Somehow I had this aching feeling where this was going. Still I sat there and listened as Billy continued. "I was almost positive I heard the words diaper and change as we passed you guys while you were getting out of your car." At that I was now horrified to not only find out that I was right, but also my new friend now knows I wear diapers.

As Billy looked at me, I guess he was waiting for me to say something. The thing was, I was having trouble forming any words, as they just kept dying before I could get them out of my mouth.

I guess Billy could see that I was not about to say anything or maybe he knew I was trying to but couldn't. "Davey, I am sorry I didn't want to embarrass you, but I was curious. When I saw you come in and then go to the bathroom with one of the men that were with you, I knew I just had to find out. I noticed the two boys going in to the bathroom shortly after you did and then running back out the bathroom and out the door. They looked pretty scared." At this Billy chuckled as he must have been remembering the sight of the two fleeing boys.

I couldn't help myself as I two saw the flashback of that earlier incident. I was soon laughing along with Billy. I think Billy was also starting to feel a little less nervous as I could see the grin starting to loosen a little. It then hit me; Billy was not trying to give me a fake grin all that time. He was a lot like someone I use to know from school, not really a friend, but not an enemy either. He always grinned when he was real nervous about something and Billy's grin looked an awful lot like his.

"I get it now. You were grinning because you were nervous approaching me but your curiosity won out over your nervousness." I said finally finding my voice.

"I just waited, I knew sooner or later you would go to the games and so I just watched and waited and sure enough I saw you head to the prize counter. I have been trying ever since to get up the courage to ask you about it, but after my money ran out I decided to use that as an excuse not to go through with it." Billy said then gave me a warm and genuine smile. "Besides it was also a little funny seeing you walk around with ice-cream dried on your face and neck." Billy laughed.

I knew then that I could trust this kid. I took a breath in then opened up. "You see to make a long story short I haven't quite honest with you. You see I am not here on vacation. I am actually here as a witness for the prosecution in a court case here in town. I am supposed to testify in front of the court against my own Mother." At this I found myself starting to weep. "I'm sorry; I am doing it again, crying like a baby." I told Billy as I tried in failure to wipe away the tears and stop my crying.

"You have nothing to be sorry for, I guess I can understand how hard that would be. I am guessing your parents are no longer together?" I nodded in agreement to his question. "I am so glad that both of my parents are still together, though they do at times have some awful fights. It kind of scares me when they get that bad. But in the end they always work it out. Most of their bad fights are usually caused by my half-brother teasing me all the time till I get so mad I end up beating him up." Billy said with a little anger in his voice.

"Why does he tease you so bad?" I asked Billy.

"Oh, you know, the usual stuff." Billy mumbled while shrugging his shoulders.

I got the hint right away that he didn't want to talk about the stuff that his brother teased him over. I completely understood and I didn't even have to have a brother who teased me. I of course had others in my life who took the place of a mean brother. Anyway I understood and decided to drop it.

We sat there for a few minutes neither of us saying a word. We were both just deep in our individual thoughts.

"So... ah..." I could tell that Billy wanted to ask me something but was having a hard time getting it out. "So do you... so you were telling me about your mom." Billy asked obviously changing the question as I was sure what he really wanted to ask.

"Yeah, but I am betting you really want to know about the other thing?" I asked quietly so only he could hear.

"Ah... if it is okay... that is, to talk about it?" He asked unsurely.

Actually talking about it was the last thing I wanted to do, but for some reason I found myself opening up to this kid. I am not sure what magical power he had over me but so far I found it hard to keep my secrets from him. I was however able to keep from telling him everything. As I began to tell Billy, I found myself staring at my hands lying in my lap.

"Well you see, I was in court all day and I was really stressed and nervous." I started to open up to Billy. "Anyway when I get like that I tend to sometimes lose control of my bladder. On top of all that I am in a stuffy courtroom and can't get to a bathroom as easily. So my Dad suggested I wear a diaper to court, and just between you and me. I am really glad that I did as I would have been soaked before court was over with for the day." I explained.

I looked up at Billy at that moment and saw his eyes about bugging out of his head. "Wow! Cool man!" Billy exclaimed, and a lot louder than I wish he had been.

I looked around quickly. I was scared witless that someone might have heard him. My head was jerking so fast looking everywhere that Billy out of the blue said, "Davey, you might want to calm down there a little. You jerk your head around to much more and you're likely going to shake it off your shoulders."

I spun my head quickly back in the direction of Billy. The fear was definitely showing in my eyes. It was an irrational fear but no matter how much I told myself this, it didn't matter. I knew that I should not be so hyped up as I knew with all the noise in the place there was no way we had been heard. It never did occur to me that there had never been anything to be afraid of since nothing had been mentioned about my problem when Billy hollered out.

Billy then leaned over, "Hey Davey, calm down no one knows. I swear I will never tell a soul about your secret." Billy promised. "So do you wet the bed as well?" Billy asked in a whisper.

"I use to but I stopped." I lied to Billy straight through my teeth. I didn't even think about it. It just came out naturally and sounded as if I was actually being truthful. I lied so good that I almost convinced myself I was telling the truth.

I could tell Billy wanted to ask more questions, but I was all questioned out about my lack of my bodily functions. You know with all of the talk about my problem you would think I would be more aware of those said functions. But alas, I wasn't. The last thing I really wanted to do was think about something that I was embarrassed about, so I put it out of my head.

"Hey I am thirsty, you want to go back with me and meet my dad and uncle?" I asked Billy, changing the subject.

"Ok sure," Billy agreed.

I lead Billy over to our table where I found my uncle and Dad talking to each other about old times or at least that is what it sounded like.

"Hey champ, who is your friend there?" Dad asked me as we walked up to the table.

"Dad, Uncle Justin, this is Billy. We met over in the game area." I told them as I grabbed my glass of Mountain Dew and drained it.

Dad and Uncle Justin introduced themselves to Billy and they all shook hands. Dad was wondering if we wanted to sit and chat with them.

I shook my head, "no we want to go back and play, I was just thirsty." I explained

"Good I thought maybe you had spent all that money all ready and wanted more." Dad said playfully.

I did not realize though that Dad had only been playing around. "I'm sorry Dad, I didn't know if I should spend it all." I almost cried while digging the rest of the money from my pocket. "Here dad I already spent $10, I hope that is okay?" I asked a little scared that he might be mad.

"Davey, buddy, don't get upset. I was just teasing you I didn't mean to sound like I was going to be upset with you. I want you to spend that money. Matter of fact I order you two to go back and not return until you blow every dime and penny into those game contraptions over there." Dad said smiling at me.

I smiled and wiped the salty water from my eyes and then gave my dad a hug before turning and taking off towards the games, Billy hot on my trail. If only I had heard Dad call me back, or if he had got up and come and got me. Just maybe the events that would follow could have been prevented. I did ask Dad later that evening why he didn't come after me and he had cried a little and apologized and told me that he now wished he had. He decided not to because he saw how much fun I was having and he thought I would be okay for now.

As Billy and I made our way to the prize counter to get our smaller bills changed into a $10 bill, my boyhood started to betray me without my noticing it. In fact when I had been standing there talking to Dad and Uncle Justin, my bladder had released several squirts of urine into my thick training pants. It then started to allow a steady slow flow, dribbling out of my penis and flooding my training pants. In fact what Dad had noticed as I ran away was a wet patch barely noticeable on the crotch of my blue jeans. By the time we had received our $10 bill and changed that into tokens, that wet spot became a lot more noticeable. Still I had no idea what had happened. I was too high on life at that moment, brought there by Caffeine, Sugar, and a whole lot of Fun!

--------------------------------------------------

I am not sure how long we were playing the games there, what I do know was that we were certainly racking up the tickets, though I was still quite a ways from getting enough to get the Transformer I wanted.

Billy and I were playing a game where you had so much time to sink as many baskets as you can. I tell you I have never been good at basketball but I still did enjoy it. I also felt like I had been getting better as well.

Both Billy and I were laughing and having a lot of fun when another dark haired kid came up to us. "Hey baby, Dad says it's time to go," the boy sneered.

At first I thought this kid was talking to me so I turned around and was about to go hog wild, when the kid started to laugh so loud that it had to have been heard on the moon. He was also pointing at my jeans. It was then that as I looked down, I noticed that I had soaked myself. The whole front of my jeans was wet and shiny and large wet marks ran down the inside of my thighs all the way to my knees.

My emotions all of a sudden took over as I saw all of the kids look over at us and then coming over to find out what was going on. My worst fear had become a reality. Not only was I the center of attention but I was the center of attention wearing my obviously pissed pants. I couldn't help it, as I stood there shaking in fear and humiliation, I started to bawl.

If I had not been so upset maybe the next thing wouldn't have happened but I was and it did.

As I stood there just crying and looking like a lost frightened little child, a loud explosion was heard or at least that was what it sounded like to me. I didn't even know that the sound had come from me as I was just way to upset. Of course that boy had heard it as well as a lot of the other kids in the area.

"Oh my God!" The boy cried out in Laughter. Billy, where did you find this kid at?" The boy laughed his head off.

"Scotty stop being so mean!" Billy demanded.

It wouldn't even register until later that this boy whose name was Scotty was the kid that Billy said teased him and was also his half brother. I can definitely now understand more than ever, why Billy hates his brother Scotty. The kid is pure evil in my book!

"Oh my God Billy, I can't believe you found someone that is a bigger baby than you!" Scotty continued to laugh hysterically.

"Scotty if you don't stop I am going to tell Dad!" Billy warned very loudly.

"Go ahead tell him I don't care! This is just too funny. This kid just shit himself he hollered out to the now crowding kids.

All through this I stood there bawling and not moving as if I were a deer standing in the middle of the road, locked into someone's headlights. As I stood there several more butt explosions came out of me and soon my training pants were overflowing. What was really bad is that the crap that was spewing out of me was of the runny variety and had started to run down my leg. It wasn't long when enough had made it down to my shoe and then puddle onto the floor coming from my pant cuffs.

Billy tried to help me move but I was not able to budge. It wasn't long before everyone staring at me saw me once again flood my pants with my hot boy urine, which flowed down my leg and onto the floor and joined my butt spew. Again Billy tried to help me move. Finally I saw him take off.

As he left I couldn't help myself from feeling even worse than I had. "There, I did it; I managed to lose another friend!" I thought to myself. "The big baby proved what he was and now everyone is laughing at me." My thoughts continued to buzz through my head.

One of the other close by boys who were laughing like crazy at me had reached around and with one quick yank, pulled my blue jeans down, exposing my very wet and messy training pants. This caused an even louder uproar from the gathered kids. The games had been forgotten as I was a much funnier and amusing thing than the games were. All the uproar which definitely sounded unusual finally did bring forth the guy who had been standing behind the prize counter.

"What the holy Jesus is going one here." The guy yelled as he tried to force himself through the tightly packed crowd of kids that were all around me. Before he could make it to me though, or even see me for that matter, the same boy who had pulled down my jeans decided that they all needed even more amusement and yanked down my underwear as well. I was now exposed from my waist down in front of about twenty kids, give or take a few. Still I was rooted to the spot and my bawling started to now, become hysterical. I even gave them a sight when my butt exploded again which made everyone jump back so that they didn't get hit by the mess that came out of me.

I stood there thinking to myself, "Why, oh my god why... Why is this happening to me! Please God just strike me dead right now. I stood there just wishing that it would be all over... wishing it were only a dream, albeit a very bad dream, but a dream no less. "Please don't laugh at me, stop being mean to me!" I bellowed at them through my cries.

"Oh now look at the little babbyyy... begging for us to stop. Everyone now stop we are being meeaannn!" I heard Scotty, Billy's brother make fun of me by imitating me.

Finally I was able to move again and even though I was still crying I was pissed. "I'M GOING TO GET YOU ALL!" I screamed my head off throwing wild punches. Finally one of my punches made contact as I heard an "ooof" sound. All that did was encourage me to continue swinging and yelling through my cries.

"HEY KID, YOU BUSTED MY NOSE! YOU MOTHER FUCKER!" Some nearby kid yelled at me before I felt a hard blow to my stomach followed by a kick to my family Jewels. "TAKE THAT YOU FUCKING BASTARD! YOU WONT MESS WITH ME ANYMORE." The kid yelled as I crumpled to the floor and then felt several more kicks to my ribs and even to my face. I was now lying on the floor and in my own mess. As I laid there I tried my best to protect my stomach and face. Even so that bastard of a kid managed to kick me again in the top of my head before I heard him scream as an adult grabbed him from behind and subdued him.

I could barely make out that it was the guy from behind the prize counter. I also realized that my screams had finally gone silent as everything started to turn black. As I was swallowed by the blackness I felt my boyhood once again erupt with another long flow of urine. I couldn't help thinking as my mind was sliding away into that blackness, why did I drink so much damn Mountain Dew. Finally the last thing I am sure I heard as the lights finally went out was my father screaming my name!
