He turned 16 just yesterday and was nervous about taking his driver's test after his classes were done. Rami kept reminding him that he was as ready as he'll ever be, but that didn't help. The car that Jake and Tommy gave him was completely restored and ready to drive, if he didn't pass today, he had to wait a month before he could take his test again. Finally, the last class was over and Josh started heading for the Driver's Education room. Rami walked with him. The door right before the Driver's Education room was the boys' bathroom. Rami pushed Josh into it. "Hey, I need to go." Josh started to say. Rami pushed his lips against Josh's and stopped him from speaking. When he let up, he looked at josh. "That was for luck, but I didn't want to get you in trouble this close to the end of the school year." Josh smiled and went back out to the hall. It was thirty minutes that Rami sat in the hall waiting for Josh. When Josh finally came out, he had a paper with a red number 95 on it. Rami looked at it and asked what he missed. "What do you do if you start sliding on ice?" "You hit the break to stop." Rami said. "I put 'Hit the break.' But that's not the right answer." Josh said. "That will cause you to slide more. Take your foot off the accelerator." Jake said coming around the corner. "You want to take your driving test, we need to hurry." Everyone piled into Jake's 'Stang. Tommy let Josh ride up front so he could get out quickly and get in line. Jake pulled up to the DMV building. As Josh opened the door, Jake looked at him, "Good luck, Bro." "We have at least an hour before he'll be done. Want to grab a burger or something?" Tommy asked. "I'm good for McDonald's." Rami said. "Yea, I guess we can get something. Better to sit there than here the whole time." Jake responded as he put the car into gear. After an hour, Jake pulled back up to the DMV. Josh was coming out with his head lowered. He looked defeated. "What's wrong, Buddy? Didn't you pass?" Tommy asked as Josh opened the car door. "Did you have a problem with the parallel parking, Bro?" Jake asked. "No, I past the parallel parking with flying colors." Josh said. "So what's wrong?" Rami asked. Josh lifted his head and smiled. "I don't like my picture on my new license." He said holding it up. Everyone chuckled. "Few people do." Jake told him as he got out of the car. Josh looked at him funny as he walked around the car. Jake opened the passenger side door and grabbed Josh's hand. "What's going on?" Josh asked. "You are driving us home." Jake responded. Jake loves his 'Stang more than most anything. Only one who has ever really driven it besides Jake was Tommy. Now, he's letting Josh drive just after getting his license. Josh almost wanted to cry from the love he was feeling for his brother. "Is it legal for me to drive? I thought I was only allowed one passenger until I turn eighteen." "Unless you have an adult with you. Yes, you are legal?" Jake smiled at his brother's thinking. Josh drove home without any issues. Jake complimented his driving. Rest of the week, classes were winding down. Teachers were preparing their classes for the final exam. Josh and Rami worked together at home to prepare as well. "What are the characteristics of a living thing?" Rami asked Josh. "Having an orderly structure, produce offspring, grow and develop, and adjust to changes in the environment." Josh answered. "Correct, now ask me a question." Rami responded. "If there were only two people left on the planet, you and someone else, who would you want that other person to be?" Josh asked. "That won't be on any of the finals." Rami chided. "You said ask a question, not ask a question on the finals. Now answer the question." "My mom so she could continue to cook for me." Rami kidded. Josh frowned. "Seriously, if you don't know that it would be you, I'm doing something wrong." "OK, true or false, right triangles can never be isosceles?" Josh asked. "False, if the other angles are 45 degrees, it is." Rami responded. "Dude, I think we have this." Josh stated. That Friday night, Josh drove to pick up their parents at the airport. Rami rode with him. Jake and Tommy stayed home to get the house ready. When Mr. and Mrs. Bolt got off the plane, they were surprised to see Josh but no Jake. Josh told them that he got his license and Jake thought he'd enjoy driving to pick them up. "If you want to drive home, Dad." Josh said holding his car key up. "No, if Jake trusts you with his car." Mr. Bolt said expecting to see the Mustang. He was surprised when he saw the car that Josh got for Christmas. Mrs. Bolt looked at Rami and smiled. "Nice to actually meet you. I understand that you are dating Josh." Rami looked embarrassed. When they walked into the house, Jake hugged his parents. "Thought you'd like to have your room, so Tommy and I will sleep in my old room." Jake said. "No, this is your house, now. Your mom and I will sleep in your old room." Mr. Bolt said. Jake hugged his dad again. The final week of school, the boys only had two classes a day. They would take their finals for those classes then be done for the rest of the day. The teacher graded each final as it was turned in. Josh and Rami were not surprised when they both had hundreds on all their finals. Jake gave his speech at graduation. He talked about dreams of a brighter future and continuing his education so that he can contribute to make it happen. Everybody clapped when he was done. A reception followed and Jake said good-bye to some of his classmates that were leaving for college right away. At home, discussion was going on about the trip to Australia. Mr. Bolt told Rami that if he had a passport and his parents' permission, he'd get him a ticket, but Rami didn't have a passport. Josh was a little sad that Rami couldn't go with them. Rami offered to watch the house for them. I have written the final chapter, it is set a few years in the future. There is a slight twist that you may not expect, but I hope you like it.
