The architect wants to cut it down and level the ground for the cabin. We said it was okay, but when there was an attempt to remove it, the voices started. Do you have any idea why this would happen?" Sean asked. "Oh, no, no, no." came an almost breathless reply from the good father. Then there was just silence and the sound of his deep, hurried breathing. ------------------- Book Two, Part 9 (Ryan narrates) Sean was alarmed by the silence and demanded, "Father, are you okay. Father O'Rourke, please answer me." In a weak, but controlled voice, Father O'Rourke replied, "Oh dear, dear, dear. I don't know what to say. I have some information about the cabin, but I was never to share it with anyone. Your Aunt Emily knows more than I do, but she can't tell you until I give you the basic information." "Thank the good Lord," I interjected. "It's about time." "Don't be angry with Emily. She's just doing what I asked of her. I am sure she wanted desperately to tell you. Sean, I cannot tell you this on the telephone. You will have to come to Vermont. I need to tell you this in person. Please don't worry yourself about it; just tell the workmen not to touch the maple tree, or the ground around it. When can you be here?" "I don't know. Just a minute, Father." Sean looked to me and I told him, "We can be there tomorrow afternoon. Let him know." In a tremulous voice, Sean told Father O'Rourke, "We'll be there tomorrow afternoon as early as we can and weather permitting. Thank you, Father. Pray for us." "Sean, my boy, I pray for you and Ryan everyday. You two are special people in my life. I will look for you tomorrow afternoon. God bless you both. Goodbye." and the conversation ended. "What do you make of that, Ry?" he asked. "I'm not sure, but I guess it's something personal, private, and special to only you. Let's tell the others what's happening. I think we should leave as soon as possible. Dad will make the arrangements. We need to call Boston for a car to our house, then we can take the Rover to Vermont," I told him. He sighed deeply and, taking my hand, we walked back to the others who were now outside sitting by the pool. -------------------- (Sean narrates) When we got to the pool, Rog was the first one to jump to his feet and come to us. "Well, how did it go? What did you find out?" "Cool it, Rog," came Greg's calm, but firm voice. "It's okay, everyone. We have some things to tell you. So, if you want, we can begin to tell you what happened when we talked with Father O'Rourke," I told them. Ry insisted that everyone sit down and get comfortable. He lead me to the table where mom and dad sat. We sat down and he began, "First of all, Father O'Rourke is well. Now, I am going to let Sean tell you what happened. Go ahead, Baby." I took a deep breath, grabbed Ry's hand tightly in mine and said, "Father O'Rourke knows something about the cabin and the maple tree, but he won't tell us on the phone. He told us to let the construction company know that they were not to touch the tree or the ground around it. He wants us to meet him tomorrow afternoon. I'm so sorry that this mess will upset your vacations." Mom stoodup to her full height, leaned toward Sean and told all of us, "Enough of that, Sean! All of us want this mystery solved, and if that means you have to return home, then we all support that. Don't worry about vacation. I bet you can take care of the problem and be back here in a day, or, at most, two days." "Right on," came Greg's loud voice. "Ryan, I'm going into the house to make the arrangements for you to fly home. You and Sean best get ready, because I am booking you on the first available flight," Dad informed us. "Thanks everyone for being so kind to us. We really appreciate it. So excuse us while we go pack a few things," I said as Ry and I headed toward the carriage house and our room. When we got to the room and closed the door, I fell into Ry's arms. I wasn't about to cry, but I did want the feeling of security I always have when I'm in his arms. As he held me tightly, he asked, Are you going to be alright, Baby? I'm a little worried about you." I tightened my hold on him and said, "I'll be fine, Hon. You are here with me, and I want to find out what's going on in Vermont. I don't like mysteries, especially when they involve us. I have made up my mind about one thing. If my parents contact me again, I will tell them that they need to let me live my own life. "I can't be held responsible for things I had nothing to do with. I mean, for heaven's sake, I don't know what happened at the cabin. I was just a little kid. If something happened that I should know about, then, damn it, my mom and dad should have arranged for me to know about it. "I'm a little pissed about the whole thing. Aunt Emily won't tell me squat, and Father O'Rourke, knows something, but he won't tell us unless we fly home and drive to Vermont during our vacation. Ry, what the hell is all this crap about? I've had it, Hon; I've had it!" Ry looked at me with disbelief in his eyes. He smiled broadly, held me at arm's length and told me in a firm, loving voice, "That's my Sean. Speaking his own mind, certain of his feelings, aware of his emotions, and ready to deal with whatever comes. I am surprised that you want your parents out of your life, Baby. That surprises me a great deal." Sean moved out of my arms, walked across the living room, turned and glaring at me told me in no uncertain terms, "I don't want my parents out of my life. I will always love them, but, damn it, Ryan, I don't want to have to deal with their voices and their visitations. I mean, they're dead, and I have suffered about that all my life. My entire existence has been centered in one way or another around their deaths. "I had to deal with my aunt and uncle. I had to go without things that were meant for me. I was treated badly, but my parents never let me know how they loved me, nor did they try to contact me to let me know anything about my past. "All I want from them now is to let me live my life, make my own mistakes, regret the mistakes I make, but learn from them. I want to be able to love you without the fear that they might want me to change something. It's none of their business. They're dead and I'm alive. I want them to let me live. Is that selfish of me? Am I being too angry, too demanding? My God, Ry, I am so confused." "Sean," he told me, "you are not too demanding, but you're angry and understandably so. I guess your parents never thought you would need to know what Father O'Rourke is going to tell you. Their return, in an important way, was never in their plans. "Our decisions about the cabin never bothered them until I made the decision to save it. Moving it was the most practical solution on the part of Ellen, our architect. It seems to me, that caused the problem. "Sean, the more I think about it, the more I think I am the cause of all this shit." I was aghast hearing my lover blame himself for this untimely situation. It made me angrier and I let him know. "Ryan Taylor, you are full of shit! Do you think for one fucking minute I believe that you are the cause of this mess? No way! Just cool it, Hon. I won't let you take any part of the blame for this. "What you did was an act of love, something that you knew would make me happy. You knew how much I loved the cabin, and this was your way to save it. So forget that crap that you are responsible for this;. I won't have it. "If we'd been told about it earlier, we could have avoided all this. Maybe there are other people who are responsible, but you are not one of them. Now come here and kiss me and let's get ready to fly home." Ry came to me and pushed me onto the sofa. He covered my body with his and kissed me with passion. I wanted him sexually at that moment and I knew that he wanted me in the same way. I also knew that we would have to defer our lovemaking to a later time and place. At this moment we had something else that was drawing us and occupying our being. I know that Ry sensed this too, because he slowly changed his kiss from one filled with almost uncontrollable passion to a gentle, reaffirming declaration of his love for me. He moved off of me and sat on the corner of the sofa. I sat up and smiled at him, telling him without words that we would make it through this mystery together. "Sean, you are a wonder. Let's go and get this over with. I want you back with me; I wantall of you; body, mind and soul. I love you, Baby," my handsome, compassionate partner told me. ------------------ (Ryan narrates) We hurried back to the pool area to find out what Dad had been able to do about our flight back home. Everyone was still there, and whatever their conversation had been about, it stopped abruptly when they saw us. Dad came down to the pool from the house. He was smiling. I decided that meant good news. Mom was immediately on her feet coming to us, hugging both of us, and then taking Sean back to the table with her. He smiled a faint smile at me which said `What do I do, she's captured me again.' I laughed to myself, remembering how in charge Mom is. Dad spoke to the assembled group, "Well, you are fortunate. I know a couple of CEO's who have corporate jets at the local airport. One of them is making his plane available to you guys to fly you to the closest airport to your cabin in Vermont. A company car will be waiting for you. I hope you don't mind flying in a private jet." "Dad, that's too much to ask. How did you work that?" I asked. "Oh, it wasn't difficult. I just called in some old IOU's that's all. But more importantly, these are old friends of mine. I wouldn't ask for anything other than this; but this is too important. Let's just leave it at that. The plane is fueling now, and the crew is on their way to the airport. It will be ready to leave in about thirty minutes. And we won't have to drive you to Palm Beach. The plane is at the local airport. So, if you two are ready, we can leave for the airport." Sean had left his seat by Mom and had come over to Dad. He hugged Dad warmly, and told him, "You're a wonderful, loving father. You think and act much like Ry does. When I am with you and Mom for a little while, I see all the remarkably kind and wonderful traits that have been passed on to Ry. When I see that, I know how really lucky I was to find him. He is a perfect reflection of you and Mom. That's one reason he is so special to me." Dad was obviously unsettled by Sean's kind words, and tears were flowing freely from Mom's eyes. I went to Mom and hugged her, and said, "I know that Sean loves you two almost as much as he loves me. It may be in a different way, but it's still love. He's remarkable, too. How wonderful his parents must have been. And Aunt Emily, too. She blames herself too much for what her husband did. But that is water over the dam. How about a kiss, Mom, so we can get going?" After we both kissed Mom and hugged Rog and Greg, Dad left with us to see that we got to the airport safely. On the way, he told us that the car that would be waiting, with a driver, at our disposal, until we were ready to fly back to Florida. At this moment, he didn't know which airport it would be, but he was assured that the pilot would know and would tell us once we were aboard and on our way north. The drive to the airport was short, taking us no more than 10 minutes. It took a moment or two to get to the hanger where the plane was kept. All those we dealt with were courteous and helpful. where The crew was working near the plane on the tarmac. As our car approached, two young men in uniform came out of the hanger and approached the car. We assumed that they were the pilot and co-pilot. I was aware immediately how hot they both were. Sean leaned close to my ear and whispered, "I know I shouldn't be thinking about this right now, but, man, those two guys are hot, don't you think?" I grabbed his crotch, which was beginning to harden, and laughing lightly, told him that they were indeed hot. "Do they give you any ideas?" I asked him as we got out of the car after Dad. "They certainly do," was his quick reply. Dad was already talking to the two by the time we were out of the car with our few belongings and had walked over to them. Seeing them closer intensified our impression of them. They were both handsome, well-built men. When we reached them, the blond, blue-eyed charmer stuck out his had and introduced himself, "Hi, I'm Kent Reynolds, your pilot, and this is Jesse Creighton, your copilot, Mr. Taylor." "This is my partner, Sean Kelly," I told them. Jesse stepped forward immediately and took Sean's hand and, as he shook it, he said, "Mr. Kelly, I want you to know that I will do anything I can to make your flight enjoyable." A broad smile filled his handsome face; well tanned, full- lipped, closely shaved. His green eyes sparkled, and he was breathtakingly hot. He had not yet let go of Sean's hand. `Hmm,' I thought to myself, `you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see who he wants to get to know better.' As I was thinking this, Kent moved to Sean, and as he reached to shake hands with him, Jesse finally let go of Sean's hand. It seemed to me that Kent was also interested in my lover, as he, too, lingered, holding Sean's hand a bit more than one would expect in a first introduction. Nonetheless, both the guys were gracious, and I was not jealous or angry. I had learned early on that Sean was a handsome, sexy young man who was appealing to any gay or bisexual man. In fact, I knew that even straight men looked at him with hunger in their eyes. Dad broke up my reverie, "Everything is set, Ryan. Have a safe flight and call us when you arrive," he said as he hugged me. He then went to Sean who had moved away from Kent toward Dad. A quick goodbye and a big hug, and we began to board the plane, following Kent and Jesse up the stairs. Dad waved a finally goodbye, got in the car and drove away. At that moment I had a funny feeling in my gut which I knew was simply a sign of regret that we couldn't stay. The interior of the plane was tastefully decorated. There were four captain's chairs, which rotated, as well as a table with four chairs. The galley was forward and a doorway, which apparently went to another area of the plane, was aft. On its left was a bathroom. There were a couple of rows of the usual plane seats just in front of that. Kent had immediately gone into the cockpit and was working on the checklist. Jesse showed us around the plane, explaining that there would be food later, and, taking us to the door at the back of the plane, opened it, and showed us an area with a queen size bed, a private bath, and a small sitting area. He assured us that we were welcomed to use it once we were airborne and at cruising altitude. When he used the word cruising, he smiled and looked directly at Sean. He made sure we were in two of the captain's chairs, had our seatbelts on, and were generally comfortable before joining Kent in the cockpit. As he left, he glanced over his shoulder and looked intently at Sean. I was only a little amused. Jesse pulled the curtain that separated the cockpit from the main cabin, leaving us alone. There was the sound of conversation coming from the cockpit; some of them sounded like the business of the plane, another suggested an entirely different agenda. Sean looked across at me, smiled a really big smile, and with his famous giggle, said, "You think Jesse might be interested in getting into my pants, Hon. He undressed me with his eyes at least three or four times. And did you notice he was getting a hardon? This should be an interesting flight." "Yeah, both the guys liked what they saw when they met you. Kent undressed you, too. I noticed it immediately and wondered if Dad was aware of what was going on. So, what do you want to to about it?" I asked. "Let's just see what happens. We are together, so if the situation presents itself that they want some hot sex, then okay. But, Ry, only if it's with both of us. What do you think?" "Not sure, Baby. I think I might be the third man out. They want you, not me. I guess I could let that happen. Not sure," I said with little certainty and no joy. "No way, Hon, they have us together, or not at all. I could participate in some hot, mindless sex, but not without you. They get us both, or they don't get either of us. That's final," he said with certainty and firmness in his voice. "Agreed!" was my reply. The roar of the engines increased and we were taxiing for takeoff. There was that stop at the head of the runway, the roar of the testing of the engines, and then the increasing roar as we barreled down the runway. We were lifting like a bird into the blue of the Florida sky, heading toward a mystery that we both knew we had to solve.
