PART TEN I watched from a very strange place as the three of them walked out onto the deck, and my father pulled the screen door to. I felt dizzy a little, and hot, and just sat there waiting for something to happen. I turned the piece of cake I had just cut around and around in circles on the plate with my fork. Barton sniffed and wiped his face, and I saw his arm go to his side and hang by his chair. I kept my eyes on the chunk of cake on my plate as I spun it slowly around, the frosting beginning to stick to the plate, and slid my hand down next to his. He sniffed again, his arm twitched and the back of his hand brushed against the back of mine. I could hear another fork on a plate, and quickly looked over and back. I never knew he was left-handed. Then I felt fingers on the inside of my left hand. I squeezed them in. "Sorry 'bout kissing you before - by the tent," I said slowly. "S'ok," Barton half-whispered. We were both still looking down at our plates. I took a big sigh and asked, "D'you think they mean it?" "I dunno," he answered with an attempted shrug. "It must be serious. My Dad didn't take his cake." I looked up at the table. He was right. There were three plates with untouched pieces of cake on them, with forks next to them. Geez, my Dad left his, too. "Yeah, must be," I said. I lifted the poor mangled piece of cake on my fork and put it in my mouth. It was an outside piece, with extra frosting. "So does this mean we're gay now?" I asked with my mouth full. Barton cut a middle piece and ate it. "I don't know. What do you think?" "I... I guess so. I mean, maybe." I turned my head toward him and said, "I don't know, but I sure never liked any girl as much as I like you." Did I actually just say that?? Oh well, it was the truth anyway. I was about to lick the frosting from my lips as I waited to hear what he said next, but he put his fork down and let go of my hand. Then he reached up and took my chin in his hand and turned my face toward him, and kissed me. I felt his soft lips against mine, and then his tongue as he licked away the smooth, chocolate frosting there. I closed my eyes and let him finish. "Oh, damn," I shuddered and sighed, "It goes right to my wiener when you do that..." Barton backed away, "Your what?" "My uh... You know..." He was giggling now. "What's so funny?" I asked. "You call it your wiener? That's dumb." "Yeah, so? What do you call yours?" I asked as he took another bite, "At least I didn't say 'penis'". He almost spit cake all over the table on that one. "Oh man... that's even worse. Ha ha. Penis. Hee hee." "Yeah. Penis weenis, " I said. "Hee hee... penis schmeenis fleenis," now he was really laughing. "Or wanger," I joined back in. I could tell he was about to come up with another one but before he could, I grabbed his hand. Somehow I knew it was ok, what I was thinking, and I didn't stop myself. I wanted to do this. Now. NOW John. I held his hand so he couldn't let go, and slowly, so he knew what I was doing, I put his hand into my lap until it rested over the boner he just gave me in my shorts. "Right here is what I mean, ok?" His eyes went wide with surprise behind his glasses, but he was looking right into my eyes again, and smiling so nice. Damn! I swear he's the prettiest thing I've ever seen when he does that! "See?" I said. I moved his hand up and down a bit and then let go. "That's what happens when you do that..." He left his hand there. Now he looked serious again. "Me too," he said. He was going to kiss me. I knew it. "You guys OK?" Mom's voice. Barton whipped his hand away so fast he banged it under the table. She was in the kitchen, refilling her cup with coffee, and looking concerned with a smile. My face felt hot with embarrassment, but I was pissed. "Geez, Mom..." "Ow..." Barton said under his breath. "Sorry. Sorry, John. Bad timing. Just checking, that's all," she said. I could tell she was embarrassed too, and we watched as she put cream in her cup, stirred it, and went back out on the deck. Now what? Was his Dad going to come in next? Or mine? But then Barton pushed his chair back. "I gotta go. I'll be back in a minute, ok?" He leaned forward and paused, with a glance toward the door, then he kissed me lightly on the cheek and headed down the hall toward the bathroom. When he got back my plate was empty. He sat and went to work on the rest of his cake. "Well, at least you didn't wet your pants this time,' I said. looking at him with my best best-friend smile. He looked at me in shock at first, then smiled back. "It was close," he said. He took the last bite of cake from his plate. "That's ok," I said. "I wouldn't mind anyway. I know you can't help it." There was frosting on his lips. NOW, John! I leaned into him and kissed him quick, and then went for all the extra frosting I could get. He just sat there and let me. That was the best chocolate frosting I ever had, right down into my undies.
