Chapter 9: So Dr Miller slid his key card through the slit in the electronic locking device hearing a clunk as the door unlocked, and then he opened the outer door, Caleb ran in and put on his suit as quickly as possible, but just as the doctor was about to close the door Dan's mum yelled out to him that she had a question to ask him, so he left the room. Caleb now fully suited up saw his chance, and quickly slammed the door behind the doctor then found the button to lock it and hit it. The room started to get misty as some sort of solution rained down from the ceiling, it smelled like disinfectant which made sense Caleb thought. Through the mist he could see Dr Miller trying desperately to stop the process but the doctor knew it was all in vain, because even his card couldn't override the system. The mist had now stopped and Caleb hit the second button, hearing a clunk come from the door, he then opened it, stripped off the suit, and walked over to the bed a hoped in beside Dan getting those electric feelings return. Dan's mum was struggling to supress her smile, as this was what she had intended when she called for the doctor, she was just hoping Caleb would take the chance and he did, she was really happy with the current situation. "Dr Miller come quickly, you should see this, we have suddenly stared to get some positive readings," a nurse, who had been in a room monitoring Dan's vitals, called out to the Doctor. ************ The impact with the wave was immense. I likened it to running at a hundred kilometres an hour straight into a brick wall, and it nearly took the wind straight out of me. I struggled hard to try to keep the air in my lungs. I continued to try desperately to hold my breath as the wave tossed me around like a ragdoll in a Pit Bulls mouth. I could feel air slowly escaping from my lungs and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Suddenly I felt myself get pulled under the wave into the depths of the ocean, it spun and rolled me around and around. I quickly become disorientated not knowing which way was up. I felt my body screaming for air. The last of the air that I had sucked in prior to the impact had escaped from my lungs. But I still didn't know which way the surface was. I was struggling hard to stop my body from taking an involuntary breath while I was still submerged. When I finally broke the surface, I thank god for the buoyancy that the wetsuit added. I managed to take in another big breath of air just before I was pummelled by the next wave in the set. I suddenly felt an excruciating pain shoot through my body as I was slammed into the rocks, knocking the wind right out of me. Somehow I managed to grab hold of a rock to stop myself being pulled back down into the raging water swirling at my feet. I started to try and climb further up the rocks using whatever energy I could still muster, when I felt a tugging at my leg something was trying to pull me back into the horror below. It was my leg rope as it was still connected to me and my board. I reached down while keeping a tight hold on the rock. I was trying desperately to get the leg rope off my ankle. I pulled hard on the tab, and finally I felt the Velcro give way. Just like that I felt it get ripped out of my hand, like an adult taking candy from a baby. I was just so tired now, and couldn't keep my eyes open... I started to feel this warm tingly feeling course through my body. I knew it must be Caleb who had come to save me, but as much as I tried he couldn't get my eyes to open. The feelings I was getting were getting stronger and stronger, and I didn't understand what was happening. Then all of a sudden I felt an explosion of immense pleasure, which was slow to subside, but when it did I could feel myself drift off to sleep. "What the hell just happened," the two parents, and the nurse exclaimed completely shocked at what had just happened to his brainwave activity that they were watching on a monitor. As they were watching the brain waves seemed to increase gradually until it suddenly went off the charts, then it returned to a normal sleeping pattern. "Well two things is my guess. First as much as I hate to admit it, Caleb was right. Caleb just being in contact with Dan has brought the boy out of his coma. We will still have to check to see whether his immune system has started to recover before we can go any further. The second thing is probably going to be a bit embarrassing for Dan but it seems his teenage hormones have started to kick in," the doctor said in a strange matter of fact sort of way. "So what are you saying, he just had..." Dan's mum started but couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence because after all her son had only just come out of a coma. "Wet dream," Dr Miller finished Dan's mum's sentence, although he couldn't believe it himself. He had been watching Caleb and he had his arms wrapped around Dan's chest, and seemed completely oblivious to what he had just caused Dan to do. He was more interested in holding the boy, and feeling the warmth that he generated in Caleb's body. So the doctor knew there was only one possible explanation. "It seems that Caleb's contact does seem to generate very strong feeling in Dan's body, and because of his current mental state I think his body misread the feelings and well the rest is history. I think for the boy's sake that I should probably be the one to change him and his sheets. He's going to be mortified enough when he finds out. So I think I will save him the extra embarrassments of having a nurse clean him up," Dr Miller said sincerely, because he just couldn't bring himself to embarrass the boy after what he has been through. Dr Walker had also been there, and he just stood in stunned silence. He knew know that he should have trusted Caleb's judgement right from the start. He was feeling guilty now for having put the boy though so much undue stress. He suddenly wondered though as to how similar their medical histories were, as he had a gut feeling that this may not have been the first time they were in hospital together. But he kept his thoughts to himself, and decided to do the research on the sly. If his conclusions were true, then he would tell them about it. Dr Miller disappeared into a closet further down the hall and pulled out a clean hospital gown that was about Dan's size, and a new set of sheets. Then he headed back to the isolation room. Dr Walker decided to give him a hand, so as Dr Miller swiped his key card and entered the de-contamination room he snuck in beside him. Both doctors put on the suits as they weren't willing to take any more chances until they got some results back from the blood sample they were about to take. Once the suits were properly fitted Dr Miller hit the button to lock the outside door and start the misting process. Once that was complete they entered the room to be greeted by Caleb with. "I'm not leaving Dan again. So if you guys have come in to try to take me away then you might as well head straight out that door," a very worried Caleb yelled at them. Not realising that Dan was now asleep as opposed to in a coma, otherwise he would have been a bit quieter. "No Caleb we haven't come to take you away. You are alright there. We have come to clean Dan up," Dr Miller said in calm clear voice to diffuse the situation. "Why do you suddenly need to clean him up then? You are only doing this because I got in here," a still defensive Caleb retorted. He was proving to the doctors that he had no idea of what he just caused Dan to do. "Well when you managed to sneak in here without me and hopped into bed with Dan, your touch brought him out of his coma. So yes you were right about that and we now know that we should have listened to you" Dr Miller said in a sincere and calming voice hoping it would calm the defensive boy down. "But it also had an effect on his body because his mind confused the signals you were giving him and he had a..." Dr Miller didn't have to finish the sentence as a smart Caleb had cottoned onto what the doctor was trying to say. "He squirted," Caleb said a little too enthusiastically as he looked under the sheet. He then felt around the wet patch at Dan's crotch and found a sticky thin watery substance clinging to the boy. Caleb being Caleb made sure the sheet was hiding his face as he quickly sampled the substance to make sure it was what he thought it was." I made him do that," Caleb said now that he had lay back down properly and fixed the sheet back up. Boy did he have a devilish grin on his face. "Yes Caleb you did, did you not notice anything?" Dr Miller queried. "I did notice his heart seemed to be thumping harder, and got a bit worried something bad may be happening so I hugged him harder. Then I felt him tense up so I thought maybe I was hugging him too hard. I suppose now that I know why he did that. I'm happy that I have made him feel good. Although I never intended on that... but I knew I could wake him up," he wasn't going to say the last part but the doctors could read the `I told you so' because it was written in black and white all across his face. Having calmed Caleb down, they made him get out of bed. Then the doctors proceeded to strip the top sheet off and Dan's robe. The hard part came when they had to take the bottom sheet off. They pulled one entire side off first and pulled it towards the middle of the bed, then both doctors very gently repositioned Dan's body so it was clear of the sheet. They then pulled the rest of the sheet off the bed. They have to be extremely careful when moving the boy as any wrong move could pull apart some of the stitches, and reopen one of his gashes. They then gave Dan a sponge bath paying particular attention to making sure his crotch was clean. Once clean they put his catheter back into place, and then they did everything in reverse in order to put the new sheets and Dan's clean robe back on. The only type of catheter that the hospital uses is the condom type. This was due to boys in particular getting irritated by the catheter that was inserted though the pee slit, and forcibly trying to remove them. They had a spate of urinary tract injuries at one stage due to boys' removing their catheters. The hospital made the decision to scrap the old type and introduce the condom type as they could be removed safely if the boys' got too uncomfortable wearing it. The only problem they struck was that the condom type catheter wasn't designed with boys, especially those in their early teens, in mind. They didn't stay on when a boy got an erection. The other problem they faced was boys' who have been bed ridden for a while tend to remove them so they can fondle themselves for comfort, the way little boys do. The doctors watched as Caleb pretty much leaped back into bed with Dan the instant they were finished. They laughed and ruffled Caleb's hair as they passed him. Then they went over to a cabinet in the corner of the room. Opened a drawer and pulled out a clean needle and an empty vial. Then they went back to Dan plunged the needle into a vein, and drew some of his blood till they had filled the vial. They put a cotton ball over the needle hole and taped it down. It turned out the extra drip was to continuously giving Dan some of his blood clotting medication. To ensure they were covered encase something happened while he was in the room on his own. With the blood sample taken the doctors then left so they could get the blood sample down to the lab for analysis. The lab assistant took the vial, and inserted a needle through the end and took a smaller sample, then placed it on a clean slide. He put another slide on top of it causing the blood to smear right across to the edges of the slide, as the two pieces of clear plastic were pushed together. Then the slide was placed under a microscope and the lab assistant looked at it through the lens adjusting the focus till he had a clear view. The lab assistant noticed there was a dramatic increase in the white blood cell count, which was very positive news. So he proceeded to the second test removed the slide from the microscope, and eased the top slide up. He then grabbed another needle which contained a small amount of bacteria. He pushed the plunger down on the needle gently and put a small amount of bacteria on the slide. He then covered it back up and took another look at it through the microscope. It was very positive news indeed as the lab assistant watched as the white blood cells started to attack the bacteria. To be on the safe side he retested it numerous times until the vial containing Dan's blood was empty. Satisfied with the results he called Dr Miller. The lab assistant was astounded though as in the many years he had worked for the hospital lab never once had he seen such a remarkable improvement over such a short period of time. I woke up again probably a couple of hours later, but I really struggled to open my eyes because the world was so bright that it nearly blinded me, gradually I was able to get them to adjust to the blinding light and open them fully. The first thing I saw was Caleb's glorious blue eyes looking back at me, and they seemed to be smiling. "Good evening sleepy head," Caleb replied with a sarcastic tone in his voice. "Huh... What... Where the hell am I," I croaked as my mouth was so dry, it was like I hadn't had a drink in days. I was also totally confused because what I saw wasn't the beach that I thought I had been on only hours before. No this room was bland and white, almost sterile and there was also this incessant beeping noise. It was not the golden sands and the crashing of waves that I was expecting to see and hear. "Um, well you're in hospital. That wave beat you up pretty bad and you've been in a coma for about four days,' Caleb said understanding my confusion, but trying to break the news as lightly as possible. "If I'm in hospital then where is everyone else, like mum and dad, or even the doctors," I struggled to get the words out as my mouth was as dry as a desert. "They are in another room as you are in isolation. Something about your immune system being weak. I'm only here because I managed to sneak in while no one was looking. Just wait here I'll see if I can get someone to get you a drink," a sincere Caleb replied as he realised that my mouth was dry. I laughed meekly when he told me that he had snuck in. That was typical Caleb I thought. I watched him as he got out of bed and walked to a large window in the room and he banged on it. I saw Dr Miller trying to point to something from outside the room, after he had appeared from hearing Caleb's banging. He was trying to point to an intercom unit just by the door which Caleb had totally over looked, and when he realised that it was there he wandered to it sheepishly. He ordered a glass of water for me. The doctor replied something about we should be out of here shortly as some test came back OK. I didn't really understand what they were talking about so I tuned out and just lay there eyeing up Caleb. After a bit more talking Caleb came back to bed with a bigger smile on his face. "We are going to be getting out of this room soon, as your recovering really quickly now," he said in a tone that sort of confused me, because it was almost like the tone in his voice was saying' I told them so.' I just shrugged it off if it was anything I'm sure he will tell me about it later. "That's good I guess... Caleb I got something I want to ask you," my still croaky voice said. Although I wasn't really sure that I would make any sense to him I wanted to ask anyway. "At some stage, I thought it was straight after you got me from the water, but I'm not sure now. I got a funny feeling in my body..." I got cut off. "Um... Yeah... Ah about that. It happened only a couple of hours ago when I snuck in... and got into your bed with you... it seems your mind misread the contact from me... and you um, squirted," he was a deep red colour now through embarrassment for me. "Oh... so I had... a wet dream?" I stammered fully understanding what he was trying to say and why he was so embarrassed. "Um... yeah... and you made a big mess. You squirted more than I have seen you do. I didn't mean it to happen... I'm sorry," he was starting to cry now feeling guilty about doing nothing, because he genuinely thought it was his fault. "Don't cry it wasn't your fault. It's a bit embarrassing yes, but you didn't do it. Although I really did enjoy it. The strange thing is I wasn't actually asleep when it happened I just couldn't get my eyes to open," I croaked in as soothing and comforting voice as I could manage. Strangely I don't think anyone else would have understood what I was saying as my voice was that hoarse, but Caleb understood every word. He just tenderly hugged me, and gave me a peck on the cheek as he calmed down realising I wasn't mad at him for something he didn't really do. "I was a little disappointed though, I would have preferred it in my mouth," he whispered quietly in my ear with the cheekiest grin on his face. I just laughed weakly coz it was all I could manage as everything was still sore and I was still feeling very weak. Dr Miller finally came into the room carrying a white Styrofoam cup full of water and put it on a cabinet beside the bed, then helped me up to a sitting position gently as to not cause me any harm. He then picked the cup up and placed it to my lips, and gently poured a little sip of water into my mouth. I coughed and spluttered on the first sip I took, and the liquid ended up getting spat all over me. The next few sips went a bit better although I dribbled most of the contents down my front as my coordination still wasn't there. I was feeling a bit frustrated but I knew from previous experience that this was only a short term problem. Eventually the doctor finished sip feeding me the water, I had managed to swallow about half of it, and the rest had been absorbed by either my hospital robe or the sheets. At least my mouth didn't feel bone dry anymore and I was able to almost speak properly. The doctor told us that I was going to get moved out of the isolation room in about an hour, and then I would be placed in a normal room in the children's ward until I was deemed fit enough to be discharged. Dr Miller explained the procedure for moving me. He told Caleb that due to the size of the bed I was in, that he would have to walk. As once they put up the sides it would be too tighter fit and would be uncomfortable for me. I personally couldn't see that being the case as I knew Caleb would do everything he personally could to ensure my comfort. Even if it meant he was really uncomfortable, but I didn't have the energy to fight on his behalf. Surprising he didn't argue either. Mainly because I think that he realised that the doctor was probably right and he would be more comfortable walking. Also we both knew it was only very temporary, and then we would be back in bed together. Dr Miller also eased some of my fears about going to the children's ward by saying that he would still be in charge of me over there. He also said that when he wasn't on duty Caleb's doctor; Dr Walker would be in charge. For the next hour or so we lay there just talking about stuff, well Caleb did the talking as I wanted to know everything that happened during and after the accident. I was so proud of everything my little boyfriend had done for me, and I couldn't believe that he put himself through so much potential danger to get me off the rocks. I couldn't imagine myself being so brave but I suppose when someone you love is in real trouble it's amazing what you will do. Finally the time came to move. The head doctor for the quarantine department had come down and given the all clear. He shut down the chamber so they could get me out without having to go through the whole disinfecting process. There was quite a contingent of people needed to help me move. There was a nurse responsible for each of the drips connected to me, as well as the heart monitor. Dr Miller thought it best if I was still connected to that just in case something should go wrong. But all the other monitors I was connected to were removed as they were deemed unnecessary. Once they were ready Caleb got out and decided he would follow everyone. The sides were put up on the bed. To stop me from falling out as they rounded corners, and then they were off. We were a massive convoy threading our way through the warren of narrow corridors to the children's ward. It was pretty easy going because the amount of people required to shift me, meant anyone they met on the way let us have the right of way. As we got to my new room I noticed four boys outside it, they were all about Caleb's age. I also noticed that as soon as Caleb saw the boy's he disappeared real quick around the closest corner, so I was starting to sense something was up. I got set up in my new room then the nurses vacated and went back to doing whatever they should have been doing, before they were interrupted to move me. The doctors did one final check up on me, and the equipment then left. Dr Miller poked his head back in almost straight after he left to tell me I had visitors. Well that Caleb had visitors but because he didn't know where Caleb had gone so he told me. He also mentioned that mum and Caleb's dad shouldn't be too far away as they had gone to get a coffee and some food. Then he left again and the boy's came in. "Who are you," I asked weakly, as I was starting to get really tired. "We are Caleb's old friends, and we were wondering if you knew where he was," one of the boy's said. It all made sense to me now and I realised why Caleb had disappeared so fast. "You are not Caleb's friends," I snapped, causing them to flinch. "You are no good little thugs, that's what you are. If you were really his friends then you wouldn't have made fun of him and bullied him when he told you he was gay," I was really letting rip into them now. I was so pissed off at them having turned up that I had summoned up a lot of strength from somewhere, and the boys were starting to look really worried. "We have come to apologise to him for everything we did," another one of the boy's said, although he sounded like he was about to burst out crying. "Have you come to apologise because you have always felt guilty about how you treated him, or have you only come because he has been on TV and in the newspaper. If it is the later you better beat a path real quick, because otherwise it may be you lot that end up in a bed here," I threatened, although I knew there wasn't anything I could do. I knew Caleb's dad wouldn't be far away though and god only knows what he would do to them. But as I suspected they ran pretty quick. I knew the only reason they had come around now was because Caleb had sort of become famous. I sort of felt sorry for for driving them away but I knew it was for the best for Caleb. A couple of minutes after the boys had scarpered I saw just a glimpse of brown hair at my doorway. "It's OK Caleb they have gone. They had supposedly come to apologise to you. I saw through it and found the only reason they wanted to be friends with you again, is because you have become famous," I wasn't going to lie to Caleb I just told him the cold hard truth because I thought it was the best way. He came into the room slowly still not sure of himself. "Thank you for looking out for me. If they had have found me I probably would have let them be my friends again. Then they probably would have hurt me again. So thank you so much. I'm really sorry that I ran away though and left you to deal with them," he was half in tears and feeling ashamed at himself. He had been so brave when he saved me, but he couldn't face up to some of his former friends. He was tearing himself in two with the thought. I knew that I would have to settle him down. "Look it was no problem, and probably the best thing too. I don't want to see anyone hurt you again. I was glad to see your old friends face to face so I could tell them what I really thought. Without having you there to hear it made it easier for me to tell them the truth. I know it isn't easy for you to face up to them especially after what they had done to you. So you did the right thing in letting me sort them out," I said trying to smile my hardest which wasn't easy. He was still feeling ashamed at himself but that was only temporary. "Sorry again, but what I came to tell you is that snobby rich guy from the art exhibit is here and wants to apologise to you. Do you want to see him?" he asked quietly not so much so that the guy outside didn't hear, more because he still hadn't forgiven himself. "Yeah send him in, as it could be interesting to hear what he has to say. Then I want you to forget about what happened before and get into bed with me," I stated missing the warmth and comfort his body generates for me, but also knowing it was an offer he wouldn't refuse. He gave me a big smile, and then disappeared before quickly coming back and virtually jumping into bed with me. He did make sure he landed nowhere near me when he did which looked rather awkward as the bed wasn't very big so he almost landed on the side of it. He then rolled up close to me and gave me a hug. The rich white man entered the room. He was somewhere in his early 60's and quite tall standing at 6"6'. He was about average build, and very well dressed. He had on a full tuxedo, and a smart looking hat which he took off as he entered the room to show some respect. He revealed a balding head that had white hair around the edges but little else. His face was quite thin with a long straight nose which ended with a sharp point. His eyes were brown with bushy white eyebrows nesting on top. His lips were thin and his smile showed a person who is usually kind and friendly, but who has made a big mistake. "Hello again Dan, sorry I didn't introduce myself to you last time but my name is Charles Black, and I would like to apologise to..." "What the hell are you doing here, can't you leave him alone," Mr Black was interrupted by Caleb's dad entering the room, with mum following close behind. Both of them weren't pleased to see him again in the slightest. "It's alright dad I said that I would see him, and I want to hear what he has to say," I replied in a reassuring voice so that things didn't escalate into something worse. "I'm sorry for just turning up at the hospital. I know it doesn't look good, especially since you have only just come out of a coma. But you have to believe me I tried to see you a lot earlier. I went back to the art gallery every day to see whether you were there. The director almost issued me with a trespass notice because I was that persistent, and he was starting to get worried that I might be up to something. Then I read in Friday's paper about your tragic accident, and the brave boy next to you. I knew I had to wait until you came out of your coma to be able to tell you how sorry I am. So as soon as I heard it on the radio today I headed straight here," the guy was very sincere, making me feel as though he really was remorseful. I think everyone else felt the same way. "Ok then, I won't interrupt again and will allow you to talk to Dan" dad said feeling that he should let the guy say his peace, but he was ready if he tried to start anything again. "I would like to say that I am sorry for how I acted that day. I'm just not used to getting told no, and especially not from a little kid, no disrespect intended. That's why I hassled you so bad. I not saying that it's excusable but I had such respect for your work that I wanted it all. When I got evicted from the gallery I felt really guilty for what I had done. But I knew that if I went straight back in I would just get kicked straight back out again and end up in bigger trouble. So I waited till the next day but you never came back. I have not been sleeping well because I'm not that sort of person and I really wanted to set things right so I hope you will accept my apology," he said and I could tell he was genuinely upset with how he had acted. "I accept your apology, and I hope you still get what you want. Just not that particular painting," I said. "Thank you so much, you don't know how good that makes me feel," he said, but he still had more to add so continued. "I have a couple of offers if you are willing to listen. I'm not going to force you too, as you have been through a lot already," he said and was ready to leave if I rejected him, but I figured I might as well listen. "OK, go ahead." "Well the first thing is that, if there is anything that I could do for you just sing out. I feel that I owe you big time so I will try to do whatever I can to help you," he said this not expecting an answer straight away, but I had thought of something pretty much as he said it. "Have you got a helicopter?" I asked getting a strange look from everyone, except the old man I think he already knew somehow, as to why I asked. "If you referring to your sweet little bed buddy, I'm sure we can sort something out. I have one question though, and you don't have to answer it..." he said, but I interrupted knowing where he was going. "I know where you're going with your question... and well..." I wasn't sure if I wanted to tell him or not. "Look if you two are together in anyway its none of my business, but let me say that even if you're not you have one great friend lying beside you. There aren't a lot of people who would do what he did, for anyone, even someone they dearly loved. So you have one hell of a catch. Just make sure you don't lose him. If you are together in that way, then I congratulate you, but you don't need to feel obliged to tell me. After all I am still somewhat of a stranger to you," he said, interrupting me at first as he had sensed that I was a bit uncomfortable with the whole thing. His voice was so genuine that it was hard not to confirm things for him, but I didn't need to. Caleb who was absolutely glowing in the praise that he had received, gave him an affirmative nod. He then gave me a hug and a quick peck on the cheek. Mr Black just gave us both a smile that told us how happy he was for us. "But anyway, what I was really meaning is, is there anything I could do for you," he continued on in a warm friendly voice. I was really starting to forget that he was the same person who had upset me so much at the exhibit. "All I want is Caleb to be here with me as much as possible. As much as I know that today was a disaster for him I still want him to go back to school," I said as I really felt that I owed Caleb. He had given up a lot for me, and he was the only thing that I wanted. I could live without everything else as long as I had him. "OK I will sort something out, and I let you know tomorrow. The last thing I wanted to say is I want you to cancel your art auction..." "You what," I said utterly surprised at this as he seemed so determined to buy that painting the last time I saw him that I couldn't believe he would suddenly want me to stop selling all my paintings. "You can't have them so no one can, is that it," Caleb's dad said angrily. "No, no nothing like that. I want to see Dan keep ownership of all his paintings. I have a completely different offer. That is I want you to loan me your paintings so I can share your story with the world. You see I have lots of art collections but none of them are at my home. I put them all on public display so everyone can enjoy them. Given the quality of your art there will be no problem having a cover charge for people to view them, and I'm sure you could make a lot of money this way. Over my many years I have made a huge amount of money by doing this," he finished up, leaving everyone in absolute shock with what he has offered. I was confused beyond belief, on one hand I wanted to get rid of them to start afresh. But now he has offered this I didn't know what to do. "I'll let you think this over, when you have come to a decision contact me," he smiled as he handed me his business card, and then turned and left. We sat around for a while and discussed his offer, but none of us were really thinking straight. We were so blown away, firstly at him. I mean this was the same guy who had harassed me to breaking point at the art exhibit, and now he has offered this. It was completely incomprehensible. Caleb, his dad and mum all went off to have some dinner at the cafeteria, while I had to put up with hospital food. While they were gone the nurses took the chance to change my dressings. Once they had finished I was finally delivered my food, which Dr Miller had to hand feed for me. That ended up with me making a huge mess of myself, so the doctor had to clean me up to. By the time I had been cleaned up everyone was just coming back. We sat around a talked it over for a bit, it also gave me my first chance to hug my mum, and my adopted dad for the first time in ages. After a while of talking I got tired and fell asleep while they were still talking away. "Dan, watch out," Caleb screamed in his sleep, which had woken me up with a start. I looked over to the boy and saw that he was dripping with sweat, and was shaking uncontrollably. He was having a terrible nightmare so I thought that I better wake him up. "Wake up Caleb; everything is alright your just having a nightmare," I said loud enough for him to hear me, but not too loud as I didn't want to scare him even more. As he was lying on my left side I was able to wrap my arm around him. He slowly awoke from his nightmare and started to cry. I hugged him harder and reinforced to him that everything is alright. When he had finally settled down he told me what his nightmare was about. For the first time I thought I was the lucky one. I hadn't seen what he had seen. I knew it was going to take a while for him to get over it. I did my best to make him feel at ease and forget about the accident, and gradually we both fell back to sleep. I woke up the next morning to a great feeling emanating from my crotch; I looked over to where Caleb should have been, but only saw a pair of feet. Next I feel this warm moistness engulf my boyhood, and I suddenly realised what the boy was doing. The intense feelings very quickly overwhelmed me and I was unable to stop him. All my energy was now concentrated on trying not to make a sound. I had to try everything in my powers to keep myself quiet, even stuffing my pillow in my mouth. I was in seventh heaven and squirming around uncontrollably. I was getting really close now. I could feel myself starting to tense, and then my balls contracted. Caleb then sent me over the edge when he pulled my foreskin back, and licked the pee slit on my glands. "Humph, Humph, ahhh, ohhhh , ahhh, jeezeus," I yelled thankfully most of it was muffled by the pillow in my mouth. My pulsating cock shot a good three loads into Caleb's hungry mouth, but my cock just kept pulsing for what seemed like forever. I collapsed totally drowned in sweat, and before long had fallen asleep again, totally knackered from my intense orgasm. When I woke up again Caleb was the right way round in the bed, and I was looking directly into his gorgeous blue eyes, and he had a big smile on his face as per usual. "Good morning sleepy head, I hope you enjoyed earlier as I couldn't let your juice go to waste again," he said with a cheeky smile on his face. "Good morning, and yes I did enjoy it, but we can't do that in here. What if a nurse or doctor had come in," I said seriously, but still smiled at him. His smile is just so contagious that I couldn't help it. "Oh, but that was half the fun," he replied jokingly and with that stupid cheesy smile he likes to use when being cheeky. "Don't worry I had asked Dr Walker for a `do not disturb' sign last night after you had gone to sleep. I told him that you needed your sleep undisturbed and he agreed with me. I don't think he knew the real reason for why I asked." He must have taken the sign down while I was asleep as Dr Miller entered the room, and looked over at us. Seeing my body still radiating it's post orgasmic glow, and strangely Caleb had the same sort of glow radiating from him too. So the doctor wasn't exactly sure what had gone on. "Good morning you two, and by the looks of you both I think I'm glad that you had that sign up. I thought it was so Dan could get a good sleep," my doctor said and had a good long stare at Caleb knowing that he was the instigator. "Well I thought he had a good enough sleep, plus I couldn't let him make a mess again, could I," Caleb said and somehow managed to keep a totally straight face as though he was deadly serious. Dr Miller couldn't hold back any longer and started laughing, while shaking his head in disbelief. Of course laughter is one of those contagious things, a bit like yawning, so once he started laughing we couldn't contain ourselves any longer and cracked up too. "Just remember young Caleb, that Dan is still not very well. So don't wear him out too much," Dr Miller joked, but still had a semi serious tone to his voice. "Don't worry doc I'm not planning on giving him exercise every morning," Caleb said cheekily. I was completely stunned that Caleb, the shy little boy when I first met him, was having a conversation of this nature as if it was the most natural thing in the world. "I was thinking that he may need some exercise in the evenings too," then cracked up laughing, which had Dr Miller laughing too and shaking his head at the boy's smart ass comment. I still couldn't believe what I was hearing. Dr Miller informed me that the nurses will be in soon to change my dressings, and to clean me up. He also said that he will be back with my breakfast. Then he left still chuckling away and shaking his head. Mum and dad entered the room shortly after the doctor left, and joked about finally being allowed to come in. Whilst they too looked straight at Caleb, who replied by deliberately putting on a cheesy grin. Mum and dad had decided that as I was out of my coma and feeling better they would stay in a hotel for the night. They had decided to stay at the Hilton which was only a couple of blocks away. Finally awake and alive again, we sat around and talked so I could catch up on what had gone on properly. Caleb had done a good job at filling me in, but there was some information which he didn't know. Caleb's dad got a bit carried away with what he was saying to me, and said far more than he should have. He continued to tell me about what happened to me and Caleb. Then as he was explaining about his son's treatment I saw Caleb tense suddenly. Then he almost created the next two world wars combined when he heard that he had been sedated. He was so riled up, that he was literally glowing red hot. Not that I blame him for being angry as I would have been the same. Unfortunately he was on the right hand side of me so I couldn't reach my arm around him to try and calm him down. Mum seeing my plight did the deed for me, which worked to an extent. He calmed down a little, but he was still fuming and you could almost see the smoke billowing from his ears. Dad tried to explain as to why they had done it, but decided better of it. Then he just tried to apologise for what he had inadvertently put his son through. Caleb surprised everyone by rejecting the apology saying that he didn't do it. He stated firmly that his father should have told him about it, as he was feeling guilty and angry at himself for falling asleep and therefore not being here for me. He told his father how much it had hurt him as he felt like he had failed me. Then he demanded that he see Dr Walker, which at this stage we knew wasn't a good idea. So I tried to stall him. I got him to lean over so his ear was close to my mouth, and whispered to him that if he behaves we can have some more fun tonight. He did a double take as my words sunk in, and he almost instantly cooled off. I knew it might not last long if Dr Walker came in too soon. Caleb's dad looked stunned as he saw his son seemingly calm down instantly after I had whispered something to him. He also realised the major problem and excused himself for a couple of minutes as he found Dr Miller, and told him to warn the other doctor as to what happened. After warning the doctor of the coming storm, he headed back to the room. Once back he told Caleb to get up, so they could head back to the hotel for him to get cleaned up. Then they were going to get him some clothes, and breakfast. He was then able to spend the rest of the day with me if he wanted. My mum decided that she would go with them as she was hungry too, but I secretly think that she wanted to spend more time with Caleb's dad. Caleb got up reluctantly and still pouting a little, he didn't need to get changed as he had fallen asleep in the clothes he had worn to school. The three of them gave me a hug. Caleb also gave me a kiss on the lips. Then they said they wouldn't be too long and left. Ten minutes after they had left I got my first visit from the nurses for the day; they stripped me of my robe, and took off the dressings covering my wounds. Then the closely inspected the wounds to insure they weren't infected, and to make sure that the were no foreign bodies trying to seep out, which would have indicated that they hadn't got all the sand and shit out when they had me in surgery. They gave me the all clear. Then left the room momentarily to inform the doctor all was good. While they were out of the room they also got some stuff so they could give me a sponge bath, and redress my stitched up wounds. The sponge bath they gave me was strange. I haven't been bathed in years. Well probably since the last time I was in hospital. They were very thorough with cleaning me; to the extent they even pulled my foreskin back and cleaned underneath. I tried my hardest to overcome normal teenage tendencies, and somehow succeeded and managed to not pop a boner. When they cleaned my wounds they used disinfectant. Which stung a little, but I could handle it. Especially since it's not the first time I've had disinfectant in my cuts. With them having now finished cleaning me they set about applying clean new dressings to my wounds. They also dressed me in a clean robe before they pulled the sheet back over me. They told me they would change the dressings again at around four, and then left. Dr Miller then came in with my breakfast, and I decided that I would try and feed myself left handed. Hey I was getting desperate for some kind of independence. I managed to get enough of it in my mouth to stop me from being hungry. But most of it still ended up all over the place. The doctor changed my robe and cleaned me up again. Dr Miller joked that next time he would have the nurses clean me up after I had eaten. He then roughed up my hair and was about to leave but I stopped him. I thought I better ask him about Caleb's nightmares, which he was genuinely sad to hear about. He said there was nothing he could really do for the boy and that he would get over it in his own time. It had been more tragic for him as he had seen everything as a witness. What was worse for him was seeing my injuries from close up so he knew how bad I was. The doctor said that as a result he would probably be reluctant to go for a surf for a while. He then said that the more I could push him to continuing to do things as normal, and the better that I got, that his fears and nightmares would soon disappear. Of course with the mention of surfing I asked him how long I would be out of the water, because it would be easier for Caleb if I was out there with him. Dr Miller said that he would normally say not to go out again couple of months. He knew me too well though so said depending on how well you heal it would probably be within three weeks. With that he then he turned and left. I lay there thinking about stuff, till I heard a familiar little chuckle that was just outside the door. Then came the sound of loud footsteps as Caleb burst into the door in his new duds. He decided to do a little flirting twirl, before he hopped back into bed with me. He was wearing some tight maroon cotton jeans and a bright yellow printed T shirt. It wasn't the snazziest outfit I'd seen him wear, but he still looked sexy in it, mind you I don't think that he could look bad in anything. Mum and dad followed a while behind, as Caleb had run off on them as soon as he knew where to go. I don't know why but I think he missed me. Although they were only gone maybe half an hour tops. With my family all together, and everyone refreshed. We decided to continue discussing the offer that Mr Black had made. We had been discussing things for about an hour when I heard a knock at the door. It was Mr Black, he had come to let me know he had things organised to get Caleb to school from tomorrow onwards. Well till I got out of hospital anyway. He then went through the drill with everyone to make sure there were no objections. He figured that since Caleb had been discharged from hospital he wouldn't be allowed to clean up here. So he said that he would come and pick him up in the morning. Then he would take him back to his place so he could take a shower, and put on some clean clothes. He indicated to dad that he would have to go and get Caleb's clothes later on today. He informed Caleb's dad he didn't have the time for a scenic drive out to his place so they were going to get there the quick way, by helicopter. The look on his face was priceless; he looked like a five year old who was getting something he always wanted. Caleb was then told he could bring anyone back that he wanted back with him. Provided there weren't too many to fit in the copter. Once they had made it back to his place however they would not be allowed to come to the hospital till all the homework was done. If the look on dads face was priceless, Caleb's was even better. He had gone from having to incredible smile on his face, to a sudden look of despair at realising that he couldn't see me again till he had completed his homework. Everyone else just laughed. Dad agreed that the plan sounded good to him and so the deal was settled. We thanked Mr Black. He would have none of it, as it was his way of apologising for being such an arsehole at the art exhibition. He was also glad to be able to help me, and my saviour out. He then told Caleb that he would see him in the morning and he had better be ready. He then said the rest of his goodbyes and left. That surprised me as I thought he may have wanted an answer on the offer he had given me. Turns out he wasn't going to rush me and that's why he gave me his card. So that when I was ready I could contact him. We just sat around, well should I say mum and dad sat around, Caleb and I lay around talking randomly for a while. Then our parents said they wanted to tell us something important, and that was that they have decided to go out. They also said that they hoped that we wouldn't mind. Of course both us boys were thrilled for them and told them congrats. But I had this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that if mum still puts work ahead of everything then it wasn't going to work. Mr Black turned back up at about quarter past three. He wasn't here long as he didn't need to tell Caleb's dad anything. As soon as he saw Mr Black coming he sprinted out to meet him. Now I see where Caleb gets his over excitement from. Mr Black just poked his head in the room and said we shouldn't be too much longer than an hour, hour and a half and left again. We just sat there laughing at the way dad had acted, and then continued talking for a while. "So you decided going to hospital was better than having me over," a high pitch voice said from the doorway, which gave everyone a fright. Then Dave came sprinting over and gave both me and Caleb a huge hug. He was crying now and said, "I am so glad you are both alright. When mum and dad told me what had happened I was so scared that I would never see you again." Unfortunately I wasn't able to hug Dave back as he was on right side, but Caleb got out of bed and gave him the hugest hug and a kiss on the cheek, which surprised Dave's parents. They were in shock anyway after having seen me and Caleb in bed together. The only good thing was that Caleb was wearing clothes because otherwise I'm not sure how they would have reacted. Caleb was doing his best to sooth his friend's feelings. Mum introduced herself to Dave's parents, and suggested they give us some room and she would fill them in on the situation. "Well you should be glad that Caleb was there with me, as he was the one who saved me," I told Dave who was still whimpering away. His feelings were mixed at this point as he was happy to see us alright. Hearing what his parents had told him, and also from what he had seen on the TV of the accident had left him scared and frightened. He was really worried about never seeing us again. "I know Caleb was real brave, but it scared the shit out of me. I didn't know what I could do," Dave mumbled still crying, he just couldn't control his feelings anymore. He had been bottling them up from the time he heard the news, but now with the relief of having seen his friends were alright he emotions burst out like a broken dam. "It's alright Dave, it's alright. We are fine, and so glad to see you again," Caleb whispered to Dave in his soothing angelic voice as he continued to hug his little friend. They just stood there for a while in a tight embrace as Dave slowly regained control of his emotions; I was surprised he had felt so deeply about it. I mean I could understand if it had been Caleb who was in my position, but he had literally only just met me. He is definitely what you would call a true friend, and I realised that I would have been as devastated if something had happened to him. We just got along right from the get go. Now calmed down, Dave asked if he could hear what happen properly. As much as telling the events of that horrible day were really starting to have a big impact on Caleb, he felt that it was up to him to tell Dave. The only time I was allowed to say anything was to correct him, but he was so used to telling it now, that he didn't make many mistakes. As he was recounting those fateful events Caleb started to turn a very pale white, and was also sobbing uncontrollably. The way he looked made me worried, it also had the adults worried too. They had re-entered the room just after Caleb started to tell the events of that day. Dave just stood there in shock with his mouth gaping open. The descriptions Caleb had given were pretty graphic. I don't think he really intended to scare Dave. I'm not sure that he really had any idea as to what he was saying. By the end Caleb was starting to shake uncontrollably, and his legs were starting to buckle. I saw mum sprint out of the room, which had the effect of snapping Dave out of his trance. Dave came to just in time to be able to catch his friend as he collapsed. Dave's parents ran over at that stage to help their son get Caleb onto the bed. He was a dead weight so not very easy to move, but they managed to get him on my bed without affecting me. Mum and Dr Walker burst back into the room. Dr Walker examined Caleb and found he had fallen into an unconscious state. He informed us he may have gone back into emotional shock. Dave was balling his eyes out, and so was I. Our parents were trying to comfort us as much as they could while the doctor went out to grab another bed. Caleb was going to need his own bed now. The doctor also bought in a heart monitor, and a hospital robe. With the help of Dave's father they moved Caleb into the new bed, and stripped off his clothes. Dr Walker quickly hooked up the heart monitor and got it going. Seeing Caleb lying there naked hooked up to the machine scared the shit out of me. I had to turn away towards mum, and cried even harder. Dave had also turned his back so he couldn't see his friend in that way. He leaned into his parents, who were both hugging him, and cried as hard as he was able to. It had been an emotional rollercoaster for the boy, and he didn't know whether he could cope. Caleb's heart beat was extremely weak, so the Doctor wheeled the bed out of the room. While a nurse who had just come into the room trailed behind pushing the heart monitor as they rushed him over to the cardiologist for further tests. Dave at this stage broke his cuddle with his parents, and forced his way in between my mum and me. He thought that we were better sharing our grief together, which in a strange sort of way seemed to comfort us both. I suppose that knowing the other person feels exactly the same way as you are is sort of comforting. He was now on my left side so this time I could hug him back, as we cried our hearts out. I had known Caleb had been through this before which was straight after my accident as he had told me. But seeing your love collapse like that first hand is really difficult to take. I can now understand why Caleb was having nightmares about my accident. It is the worst feeling in the world seeing someone you love go through such a thing. Not long after Caleb had been taken out of the room I felt an excruciating pain emanate from my wounds. I tried my hardest not to do anything to alert the others. But the agony was far too intense. I couldn't hold it anymore and screamed out in sheer pain. I was getting very worried looks from everyone in the room. After what seemed like an eternity, but it was in reality only a couple of minutes the pain suddenly vanished. I was feeling perfectly fine again. "What the hell happened, Dan," my very concerned mother said. "I really don't know I all of a sudden felt the most agonizing pain in my wounds. They seem fine now," I replied, trying to get the attention off me, and back on my lover who needed it more. Mum had a quick check over me, and when she was happy that it must have been an isolated incident she left me alone. Everyone's thoughts returned to Caleb. All was fine for another ten to fifteen minutes when I suddenly felt another bout of the most agonising pain course through my body. Again I tried my hardest not to draw attention to myself, but it was all in vain as the pain was too much for me to handle. I screamed again, while I clutched at my heart. I don't know why I did that but no one noticed. This time the pain stayed for a lot longer and it was starting to really scare me as I have never felt such pain before. Mum ran off to try and find Dr Miller. By the time she had made it back I was fine again. She had not found Dr Miller so she grabbed some other doctor that she had seen on the way. The doctor gave me a thorough going over, but came up empty. He had no idea why I had experienced such pain as everything looked fine and dandy. He said that if I experienced it again though he would put me back on morphine and that I might have to back into surgery. Thankfully I never felt the pain again, and it was all forgotten about as I was again totally lost in my thoughts about Caleb. Dave had cuddled up to me tighter as a result of the pain I had felt. He had also totally forgotten about it knowing I was fine again. His thoughts also returned to his best friend. At some stage one of the nurses had briefly come in to change my dressings, but mum had informed them that now was probably not a good time. Caleb's dad had come back about ten minutes later. He was totally glowing from his helicopter ride, until he saw the morbid scene in my hospital room. "What's... wrong... Where's Caleb," he stuttered. Seeing me getting comforted by Dave, and not his son he had quickly realised something had gone terribly wrong while he was away. Mr Black was just behind him and his face was full of worry too. He too he fallen under Caleb's spell and was extremely worried as to what had happened. Mum led them out of the room as she didn't want to upset me and especially Dave any more than we already were. She proceeded to fill the two men in as to what had happened since they were away. She too had blanked out the pain that I had gone through. They were both shocked as neither of them had noticed how much of a toll the whole experience had taken on the boy. Caleb's dad was distraught as he finally recognised some of the signs that Caleb had been sending. As they say though, hind sight is a virtue. We were waiting there trying to comfort one another for a good hour and a half before Dr Miller, which had surprised me, turned up to fill us in on Caleb's condition. He told us that Dr Walker couldn't see us as he was still extensively monitoring Caleb's condition. The doctor said that he had gone into cardiac arrest twice, but thankfully they were able to bring him back both times. He was in a stable but serious condition. Unfortunately we weren't going to be able to see him. Dave just held me tighter and somehow he started to cry even harder. I did the same. Dr Miller than apologised to us as he told us that it was the emotional stress that he had been under that had caused it. Due to be sedated he had blamed himself horribly and that had started the whole sequence of events. The nightmares he had been having, more the fact he kept reliving the accident over and over again, was the main cause. Caleb having explained everything about the accident so many times also finally took its toll which is why he collapsed. Unfortunately he declined very quickly and he arrested the first time just a hundred meters from my room. They had to rush to get a emergency crash cart to bring him back. Dr Miller was apologising on behalf of both the doctors. They like everyone else had missed all the warning signs. The difference was that it was supposed to be their job to be able to identify symptoms like that. Caleb had grown on them so much that they were both devastated in having failed him. The boy though was extremely good at hiding things too. He also apologised on behalf of Dr Walker for sedating him in the first place, but Caleb's dad was too worried about his son to take much note. When Dr Miller left, Dave turned around to his parents and told them in between sob's that he was staying with me tonight and until Caleb gets better. His parents were about to argue with him but then remembered what my mum had told them about how close Caleb and I were. They decided it was probably better that he kept me company. Especially as my boyfriend and his best friend, was in such a bad condition. So they gave their son a big hug and kiss, then said goodbye. They said that they would be back in the morning to see how things were progressing, and also to give Dave a clean change of clothes. Mr Black, who was in complete shock as to how quickly things had happened, stammered out that he should go and inform his pilot that his services wouldn't be needed tomorrow. He added that he too, would be back in the morning to check up on how Caleb was doing. He then turned around and shuffled out the door, his head looking to the ground as the news had hit him hard. He was really struggling to keep control of his emotions. With the room somewhat back to normal Caleb's dad broke down. It had been the first time that I had seen him cry. He just couldn't believe his son had gotten so bad that he had a cardiac arrest, and what was worse is that it wasn't just one. Of all the times he had been in hospital with Caleb before this was the first time he had actually arrested. I could see that he was blaming himself heavily for having not seen the symptoms. I heard the running footsteps of someone rushing to my room, but paid little attention. Suddenly Chris burst through the door and stopped dead in his tracks. "I heard you had come out of your coma... what going on," Chris asked, first excitedly then he realised that something was very out of place. "Where's Caleb?" he asked seeing a little Maori boy comforting me in bed and not Caleb. "Caleb's had cardiac arrest," I managed to tell him through my tears. Even though I was crying hard Chris fully understood what I had said. I saw the colour drain from his face and he started shaking. "Oh yeah, Chris this is Dave, he was Caleb's only real friend at his last school," trying to bring some normality back and to try to take our minds off Caleb. I thought that I had better introduce the young Maori boy to Chris, because they had never met till now. It was a pity that it wasn't under better circumstances but I suppose beggars can't be choosers. Dave left me momentarily as he went over to Chris and gave him a hug. Dave was still balling his eyes out which caused Chris to lose it too. Chris had come with the excitement that his friend had come out of his coma, only to find another of his friends was now in a worse way. The emotional rollercoaster had played havoc with Chris. Now having Caleb's best friend giving him a hug to comfort him just sent him over the edge. He was impressed with Dave's show of affection towards him even though they had literally only just met. He knew that if he saw more of him that they would become good friends. Chris's parent who had finally caught up with their excited son where standing in the doorway looking rather befuddled at the scene that greeted them. Mum thought it best to now explain to Chris and his parents what had happened. She told it right from the start. Dave had come back to bed and hopped in beside me giving me a comforting hug. The story had me and Dave covering our ears so as to not hear it again. For Dave the story had been nothing but horrible news, and it was the same for me too. Chris having lost the warmth of Dave's hug also tried to hop into bed with us. It was a bit of a squeeze but under the circumstances I was comfortable to have the two other boys on my bed. Chris's parents were overwhelmed from the events that mum had told them about. They were extremely proud of what Caleb had done, but also very upset at how it had affected him. They weren't too sure about our relationship though, but they bit their tongue and decided maybe it was a good thing. It was the mention of Caleb getting sedated and taken home which had caused the boy so much stress, that had gotten the biggest reaction. Both parents and Chris himself were very angry, but also largely confused as they realised that it really shouldn't have had that bigger impact on Caleb. They could somewhat see the doctors point of view. It was at this point mum thought she should shed some light into what our relationship was truly like, and not just that we were gay. Chris's parents were starting to see that our relationship was a good thing. They were struggling though to believe that someone so young could become so attached to another person who wasn't family. All in all, the story led Chris and his parents to tears. Chris though really doesn't count because he was already crying before it got told. But they all got a much better understanding as to how we were together. Chris had somewhat known about how close our relationship was, but not quiet to the full extent. Chris was hugging both Dave and I for comfort as he balled his eyes out. It was made worse when my mum also informed them that no one was able to see him at the moment. Caleb's dad left in a hurry when mum had reminded everyone of that. He just couldn't handle it anymore and needed to get outside for some fresh air. Once he had got outside he felt his stomach cramp, and ended up throwing up all over the sidewalk. In all his time he had only experienced this amount of stress once before, and that was what scared him most. The last time didn't have a happy ending. It resulted in him losing his wife and unborn child. He just couldn't handle another loss, but he was also too scared to let anyone else know what he was thinking. Mum apologised to Chris and his parents, and told them she needed to find Caleb's dad so she would have to leave them. Then she rushed after him. Chris's parents as grief stricken as they were decided it was best that they head home. Chris was going to ask if he could stay, but knew it probably wasn't a good idea as there were already too many people here as it was. He said as he reluctantly dragged his body away with his parents, that he would inform our friends as to what has happened. I let him know that I would try and let him know of any further developments if I could. With that he disappeared leaving me with Dave and suddenly we were both feeling very alone in the world. Things just weren't the same without Caleb. I knew he must have felt the same when he couldn't get to me. Mum found Caleb's dad bent over in the gutter still throwing up. Gently she reached around to hug him, and sternly told him that he had to explain himself. He hadn't been this bad when Caleb was first admitted to hospital so mum instinctively knew he was hiding something. Feeling his stomach had calmed down enough he took her over to a park bench, under a tree and sat down. He then started telling her why he was so worried, as it had reminded him of the incident with his wife. Mum was in tears by the end of his story, and hugged him closer whilst trying to say that this was going to work out. Before he knew it Caleb would be out and living life normally again, but deep down even she wasn't so sure. Whilst Dave and I were alone Dr Walker appeared he had aged dramatically, as he was now looking at least his age if not older. Caleb had inadvertently inflicted more stress on him than he had ever experienced. He didn't know why as he had seen much worse cases than his. Usually he was able to shut out any sort of emotional attachment, but with Caleb, there was just something about him that he found it impossible to shut him out. In fact he had grown to adore the boy as if he was his own. "I have an update on Caleb, but I think it's best if I wait for everyone to be here," Dr Walker said very warily. "I need to know now, I can tell mum and dad if you want," I said in hysterics, it was so tough not being able to help and I needed to know how my love was. "Um... I'm not sure about this... Oh to hell with it... Caleb is stable but he is in a coma now. I want to keep monitoring him for another twenty four hours, but after that if everything is fine... I want to see if you can bring him out of his coma. You know like he had for you... Even if it results in a big mess," he said trying to joke at the end, but was too tired so it didn't quite work. "Whew, I hope he stays well, but don't worry he won't make a mess. He still shoots dry as he is only 11," I said in complete relief that things were looking a lot brighter. I heard Dave let out a sigh of relief, but was still crying but this time they were tears of relief. He giggled at my comment of Caleb still shooting dry. It made me happy to hear him giggle, even if it was weak but it was the first sign of him starting to cheer up. "Ha, Ha, well I suppose at least I won't have to clean him up, but I better go back, as if anything does happen I want to be there for him," Dr Walker said lacking enthusiasm as he was just so tired. Just as he was starting to head out the door, mum and dad entered both were in tears and hugging each other. Caleb's dad seeing the doctor almost throttled him to get some information out of him. Mum had to hold him back, and so the doctor gave them a little more in-depth version of his condition than he had given me and Dave. He left out the obvious stuff that he had said to us. I could see Caleb's dad let out a huge sigh of relief although he knew it could only be temporary. He was trying to look on the bright side. The next twenty four hours were the longest of my life. I didn't get any sleep because I was too scared something may go wrong., I was anxious all the next day waiting for word of Caleb, well more hoping not to hear anything until it was time to go and see him. Mr Black had come in briefly to check up on Caleb, once he heard the news he went out and waited in the corridor as he felt that it wasn't right for him to intrude. He wouldn't listen when we tried to say that it was alright for him to wait with us. Dr Walker came back in to the room almost a full twenty four hours after we had last seen him. He was looking a lot better, more refreshed. He gave us the latest update, which was no change than the last one. That was good though because it meant that he hadn't deteriorated. But he was still in a coma. He told us that he felt that Caleb was stable enough to allow visitors now. He told me that I would have to wait for a little bit longer though as there were no nurses available to help move my bed, and the drips I was still connected to. I told him that I wasn't going to wait and I was feeling well enough to attempt to walk, failing that I could always use a wheelchair. Dr Walker didn't protest. He just left the room and came back with both a walker, and a wheelchair. He then proceeded to unhook me. The drips at this stage were just a formality, as I was well enough not to need them anymore. He also removed all the sensors for the heart monitor. Now came the hard part as it had been a long time since I had used my legs, or most of my body for that fact. So I didn't know how much strength I had. For Caleb I would have crawled all the way just to be with him, and there was no doubt that he would have done the same. My first test was trying to sit upright. Dr Walker wasn't going to help as he needed to see what I was capable of before I tried to stand. So there I was attempting to do something I have been doing for years, but scared as hell that I wouldn't be able to do it. I slowly tried to lift my weight using my hands and arms. It was a real struggle as I was still really weak, but I managed it and was now sitting unassisted for the first time in a while. Now for the biggest test, to see whether my legs would be able to handle my weight. I swung my body round till my legs were dangling off the side of the bed. Then I slowly lowered myself off the bed onto the floor, even that wasn't easy as my arms were buckling under the strain. I got to the floor and managed to stand. Dave had got off the bed to give me the room that I would need to get up. He was so happy at seeing my stand he ran over to give me a hug, and not a moment too soon. As the same instant he hugged me, my legs gave out and he was left holding me up. The doctor rushed over to Dave and helped to sit me down in the wheelchair. Dr Walker was very impressed with what I had managed to achieve though. He wasn't expecting me to even be able to get off the bed yet as he figured my body would still be too weak. It was the drive I had to see Caleb that had got me so far, but now seated in the wheelchair I noticed how tired and sore my body was now. Dave gave me another hug telling me how well I had done which cheered me up and made me forget my pain. I was wheeled down a different set of corridors than I had been last time. When I had been moved. Dave, mum and dad in tow we made it to the cardio ward. Then we were taken to the room where Caleb was. He was a sorry sight, wires were running everywhere. He was lying there pretty much naked and not reacting to anything. My heart sunk the moment I saw him and started to cry again. I wasn't the only one upset to see him this way, as both mum and Dave were also crying. Dad was full with a new sense of hope that I would be able to reciprocate what Caleb had done for me earlier. He was also used to seeing Caleb like that, so he was the only one not crying. I got wheeled up right beside his bed. His room was a lot dimmer than mine had been and my eyes were struggling to fully adjust, proving to me that I still had a lot of rehab to do. I tried with all my might to lift myself out of the chair, but my body was now too weak that I didn't even budge. Dave sensing my frustration gave me a hug, and said it was alright that I had done enough with just getting out of bed. Then the little boy lifted me to my feet and supported my weight. I was surprised as to how strong this cute little boy was. He surprised me even further by helping me up into Caleb's bed, and then told me to work my miracle and wake him up. He then headed over to my mum and Caleb's dad, who both gave the boy a hug and kiss thanking him for everything he had done. Now on the bed I repositioned myself and then lay down, and snuggled up to my hero. Almost straight away the nurse was in the room saying we had some positive signs, but Caleb still stayed asleep. He woke suddenly with a start, and panicked. He rushed to get out of bed totally oblivious to his surrounds and fell instantly to the floor disconnecting all the sensors that had been connected to him. Not realising what was going on he struggled as he tried to crawl across the floor and out the door. He was babbling on about something, but his speech was so incoherent that even I didn't understand him. Once out the door he was finally able to make some sense of his surroundings, and had seen Mr Black sitting on a seat. He had a look of total surprise as Caleb who was still struggling trying to crawl went right up to the man and blabbered a whole lot of gibberish that no one could understand. ************ Comments are always welcome at (pennywise3636@gmail.com).
