Their Mom was there and I got to meet her, but their Dad had left for work. Mrs. Price made a big deal out of thanking me for helping Matt, and I blushed like crazy. All three boys erupted in laughter at my embarrassment, which just made her go on and on and on thanking me. I couldn't believe they had told her that. I sure wouldn't have told my parents. We finally walked out the door, and Bruce said, "I wish I had a picture of how hard you blushed at the table." This caused all three boys to start giggling again. "Thanks a lot, guys," I replied, blushing again. "Hey, come on. We're just kidding you. You have to take some kidding if you are going to hang out with us. Just wait until you meet Nate and Dave. Nothing is safe that they can't kid you about," Matt said. "Yeah, it's especially funny when they gang up on you," Bruce said. "I'll bet you think so, but I don't," Matt said. "It really isn't fair, you know. Dave can't kid you or you might get mad at him, and Nate doesn't kid Brian for the same reason. That makes it open season on poor Matt." "Why won't Nate and Dave kid the two of you?" I asked, puzzled. "That's a long story. We can't tell you everything until you have finished your initiation, OK? Can you go with us camping, by the way?" Brian asked, changing the subject. "I think so. Mom wants to speak to your mother first, and wants to meet all of you. But, I am pretty sure she is going to let me go," I answered. "That's great. We will tell you everything Saturday, OK? You should have passed your initiation by then," Brian said. "What all do I have to do to pass?" I asked innocently. Bruce broke up in laughter. "I think you had better answer that one, Brian," Bruce said. "It's a surprise. If we told you everything, it would spoil the surprise, wouldn't it?" Brian said. "I guess so," I said, clearly confused. At least I had friends now, even if they were strange friends and spoke in code to each other that I didn't understand. Maybe, once I passed my initiation, whatever that was going to be, I would understand what they were talking about. We walked over to Nate and Dave's house, and they came out before we had even opened the door. Both were dark haired and very good looking. "Hi, you must be Jamie. I'm Nate," he said while shaking my hand. "So you're the karate guy, huh? I'm Dave," he added, also shaking my hand. "So, you are going to join our group. That's great." We all chatted as we walked to school, and I got to know both of them pretty good. Nate seemed to stay pretty close to Brian and Dave stayed with Bruce. They seemed really close. I began to wonder how close. We got to school early, and Matt immediately saw some of his friends hanging around outside. "Come on, Jamie. I want to introduce you to the guys." "Just don't tell them anything, OK?" I pleaded. "Oh, no. I have already told you I am going to. So shut up, and come on," Matt said. Matt walked quickly over to the four boys, and I walked much slower. I knew he was going to totally embarrass me. "Hi, guys, this is Jamie. He just started here yesterday. Did you guys hear about Andy and Sam?" "I heard they got their asses kicked by a gang. Andy went to the hospital," one boy said. "Hehehehehe. Yeah, it was a gang, all right. A gang of one. Jamie beat up both of them. He was like Bruce Lee, or something. Andy even pulled a knife on him. Jamie just took it away from him, and then kicked him in the nose. I'm pretty sure it's broken," Matt said. "The police got the knife, so I don't think either of them will be coming back here anymore." "All right, Jamie!!! My name is Tad, by the way," the tallest boy said, coming over and shaking my hand. They all introduced themselves, as they shook my hand and pounded me on the back. Matt just stood back beaming, as his friends fought for my attention. THIS was sure different than yesterday!!! I was shy, though, and when I looked at Matt and saw him smiling, I gave him fake glare, which caused him to start laughing. Matt had to explain the whole thing to them, and then thankfully, the bell rang. "I am going to kill you when we get out of school," I said angrily. "Hehehehe. No you aren't. I am your best friend, and all I am doing is helping you make some new ones. Almost everybody here hated Andy and Sam, and you are going to be a hero," Matt replied, as he ran ahead of me to get away from the playful punch I threw at him. The rest of the day went pretty well, and soon it was lunch. Matt and I got our food, well, I think it was food, and went over to sit with his regular lunch crowd. I saw Tad sitting there, and he started telling everyone what had happened yesterday. I just tried to eat my lunch as fast as I could so I could get out of there. That wasn't going to happen, though, as everyone wanted to ask me a million questions about the fight, Matt and I having to go to the principal's office, the knife, everything. Everyone was being really friendly, though, and I knew this inquisition was lots better than nobody talking to me yesterday. Just when I thought everything was going to be OK, everyone quit talking as a very large boy walked up to the table. His arms were huge. "Are you the punk who jumped Andy and Sam?" he growled. I stood up quickly. "You couldn't exactly call it jumped. Andy even came at me with a knife," I answered. "That isn't the way I heard it. I heard that they were just having a little fun after school and you jumped them from behind." "Fun after school, huh? Does fun after school mean they can gang up on a kid lots smaller than either of them, take all his clothes off, and throw him out into the hall?" "That isn't what they were doing, and you know it," he said, getting red in the face. "Look, I don't want to fight you over this. What I said was what happened. You can ask Matt, if you don't believe me," I said. "Yeah, Sam was holding me from behind, and...." Matt said. "You shut up!! I'm not talking to you!! I'm talking to this new creep. So you don't want to fight me, huh? Well, you don't have any choice. Meet me behind the gym after school, or I will come looking for you," he said, and stormed off. "Oh man, that is Alex, and he is really bad news. He doesn't care if he gets kicked out of school, or not. He was in so many fights last year, he failed every class and he is just waiting until he turns 16 to quit for good," Tad said. "What are you going to do?" Matt asked. "I guess I have to meet him and try and talk him out of fighting," I said, sitting back down. "You won't be able to do that," Tad said. "Well, I'm not going to worry about it until the time comes," I said, as I started to eat again. Several of the boys got up and said good bye. I watched them out of the corner of my eye, as they started to go from table to table, telling about the fight yesterday and the one that was supposed to happen later today. `Great! I almost wish I didn't have any friends like yesterday. At least I didn't get into trouble like I'm in now,` I thought to myself. The rest of the day went pretty good. The only trouble I had was having to shower after gym with the rest of the guys. My old school didn't make you take showers. I was really embarrassed at first. I got through it all right, though, and Matt was constantly at my side. The final bell rang, and I walked to my locker to put my books away that I didn't need. I met Matt, and we walked out to the gym. "I'll hold your books for you," Matt said. "Good luck. Maybe you can talk him out of it." "I hope so," I answered, as I handed my books over to him. As we rounded the corner, we saw a huge group of people. News about the fight had spread like wild fire. I could already see Alex in the middle of the crowd, dressed in a tank top. The crowd parted for Matt and I, and I was quickly in the middle with Alex. "Look, we told you the truth. I don't want to fight you. I didn't want to fight either of them yesterday, but I couldn't just walk out and let them strip Matt completely naked and throw him out in the hall like they were going to do. Both of them yesterday made the first move, not me," I said loudly. "That's a lie. You jumped them when their backs were turned. And now you are going to pay for it," he shouted, and rushed me. I faked to one side, then quickly moved to the other. He ran by me, into the crowd, knocking several people over, him included. "You can't stay away from me forever," he screamed, as he got up. "I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT YOU!!! Just stay away from me, and lets call this off before someone gets hurt," I yelled. "Someone is going to get hurt, all right!!! YOU!!!" he screamed, and charged me again. `OK. He is lots bigger than I am. If he gets me down of the ground, he is going to pound me. Don‘t want that. I guess I have to fight,` I thought quickly to myself. As he got close, I pivoted to my right and kicked him heavily in the side. He went down again. "Last chance. Let's stop now, OK?" I asked. He got up slowly, but started to come closer again. "No way, punk. When I get my hands on you, it's going to be all over." He swung a wild right hook at me, which I easily backed up from. His whole right side was open, and I kicked him against his temple. Again, he went down. "I know. That's why you aren't going to get your hands on me," I said, as I danced out of his way. He got up lots slower this time, but he still advanced. "I am going to kill you for this," he said. He got close, then rushed one more time. I had timed him once again, swivelled, and kicked him hard in his left knee. I heard something pop, and he went down screaming. "Somebody better go get the principal," I said, as I walked over to Matt and got my books. Everyone was yelling and screaming, pounding me on my back. All I wanted was to get as far away from here as I could. I really think I had hurt this boy, and I really wished it could have been avoided. I didn't see how, though. "Come on. I don't want to talk about this, OK? Let's just go to your house. I hate having to fight. I want to get as far away from here as I can," I said. "Sure, Jamie. That's fine with me," Matt answered. We said very little on the way to his house. We finally arrived, and Matt unlocked the front door. "Where are your brothers?" I asked. "They went over to Nate and Dave's house. Their parents finally said that Brian and Bruce could come over. They aren't as mad at them as they were to start with," Matt answered. "Good. What did they do, anyway?" "They were over an hour late getting back home on Saturday. We all camped out on Friday night, and their parents made them promise to get home at a certain time, and they forgot. They were going to a cookout with some other families, and it made them all late. Their Dad was really pissed at them." "Oh. Well, I am glad they can come camping with us on Saturday. They both seem like really nice guys." "They are. I am sure you are really going to get along great with both of them. By the way, you were awesome in the fight. I know you don't like to fight, but you are really good at it." "Thanks. I guess. I really don't like to fight unless I have to. I hope I didn't hurt him too bad, but I thought I heard something pop. I hope I didn't break anything," I said, starting to tear up a little bit. Matt noticed, and came over to stand directly in front of me. "You're crying. Don't cry for that jerk. He has been making life Hell for everyone for years. Come here," Matt said, as he pulled me to him and hugged me tight. I let him hold me for a long time. I cried a little bit on his shoulder. I hated hurting anyone or anything, even if I had no choice. This really sucked, you know? Matt finally pulled away from me, lifted my chin up with one finger and kissed me on the lips again. I pulled away in shock. That was the second time he had kissed me!!! Matt could see my reaction plainly. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. You didn't want me to, and now I have ruined everything. I think you had better go now." Matt started up the stairs to his room, and I said, "Matt, wait." He stopped dead in his tracks, but didn't turn around. "What?" "Look, I don't want you to go. I don't want to go home. You just surprised me when you did that, you know? I guess I am confused. I didn't mind you doing it. I don't know what I mean. This has been a really fucked up day, and I just don't know what I mean anymore. But don't go, OK? You are my best friend, and I sure don't want to lose you." Matt turned around slowly. Tears were still evident on his cheeks. "If I stay, I want three things," he said. "OK, fine. What are they?" "Three kisses. One now, one anytime I want it, and one when you leave. Those are my conditions. The kisses can be as long as I want. Otherwise, I am going to my room. Without you!!" `SHIT!!! What do I do now? Kissing is definitely going deep into the fag category. But, I really didn't want to lose Matt as my best friend. And his kisses weren't really bad, you know? I really liked them.` I thought to myself. "Uh, well, OK, I guess," I mumbled. Matt just smiled, and said "Let's go up to my bedroom, OK? No one should be home for a while. We can study up there." "OK," I answered. To be continued. Comments are appreciated and always answered.
