"Living in the mean streets of Chicago..." -------------- "Tyler, are you okay honey?" David's mother, Ann inquired curious to find out why Tyler was acting hysterical. "He is trying to take David away from me!" he almost shouted with tears running down his face with red eyes. She thought maybe her ex-husband returned somehow to threaten Tyler until she heard him say, "My father is ruining my life..." "Come inside; sit at the table while I get you some milk and cookies. David, Tyler is here to see you." Ann said to him as she led Tyler into the kitchen. In a way she was an old fashion mom who believed sweets could help make things better when she didn't know how to deal with what was going on with David or his teenage friends. She went through the motions of pouring him a glass of milk and retrieving the chocolate chip cookies from the cupboard. "Ty, we will find a way to work things out with you and your father. Just remain strong and calm." "Tyler, what's wrong?" David asked as he rushed over to Tyler putting him in a warm embrace almost knocking over the glass of milk on the table that was untouched by his lover. Tyler never answered as David tried to comfort him. How could he tell him that he was being forced to move away and may never see him again? How could he even pretend that a long distance relationship would last for five or six years prior to the both of them graduating high school and going to college? He knew his father's actions were dooming his relationship with David and that he would be returning to his old life where he was the constant target of the school bullies. His good life, not that he ever thought he had a good life before hearing the news of moving back to Chicago, was going to be over soon. He had no control over his destiny, his life would continue to deteriorate beyond all belief and as he'd lose everything positive in his life systematically by the fate of God. Tyler eventually felt the need to speak to David and in private. He knew he had to relay the bad news and didn't want any interruptions. "David, can we go to your room and talk privately?" "Sure, follow me..." Tyler followed David to his room like an inmate on death row walking to the electric chair, knowing that each step was one of his last. That each breath in his chest would soon be his last. David closed the door after Tyler stepped past the threshold, hoping that Tyler may want to make out or more, but deep in his heart he knew something was seriously wrong. "David, please let me finish what I have to tell you before you start asking questions or make any comments. This is one of the hardest moments in my life, which is pretty amazing with everything that I have been through in the last year. It started out great, I finally was accepted by who I was from my mother, I made friends at school for the first time and had a great boyfriend that I still love with all my heart. However, my whole life has come unraveled... normally I would not have had far to fall, but fate has been cruel to me taking away everything good in my life systematically to test my breaking point." It was astonishing that Tyler could be so brave and give a heart felt impromptu speech where he as delivering bad news and breaking up with the only person he loved in the world. "Tyler?" "Please let me finish... I lost my boyfriend this year to regain him, I lost Jason who I also loved, my mother, now I am losing my way of life and I have to say goodbye..." Tyler couldn't face David as tears streamed down his face like a river. Barely able to speak, he continued on unable to look at David, "I have to say goodbye to you as my father is forcing me to move back to Chicago. I know long distance relationships do not stand the test of time and a long distance relationship with you would have to last over five years until after we graduate high school. I could not begin to ask you to wait for me and put your life on hold. I am so lucky I even got the first kiss from you, let alone your friendship and love." After a few moments of silence with tears still flowing down Tyler's face, David was still at a loss of words and at the same time questions were flying through his brain so fast he was in an information overload phase. David hugged Tyler for a few minutes before releasing his embrace and started asking how Tyler could ever think they couldn't last and that they could chat on the internet, visit in the summer and holidays, let alone talk on the phone. Tyler just kept giving the same response that he couldn't hold David back and make him sacrifice his love life throughout middle school and high school. David and Tyler were interrupted by a loud knocking at the front door. As Ann let Jack Steward into her home, he immediately called for Tyler to come to him, almost as if Tyler were a dog that was in trouble. Tyler kissed David hard on the lips before walking out to his father. "Don't you ever run off again; I am way too busy to be looking all over town for you. Grow up and talk out your problems instead of running off like a little spoiled brat." Jack would have spanked Tyler if they were not in front of strangers. "Please say goodbye to your friend and meet me outside in ten minutes." Tyler thought to himself, how do you say goodbye forever to someone in ten minutes? He had tried his best and wished he could spend one last night with David. "Dad, can I stay here tonight?" "What makes you think I can trust you not to run away?" "Dad, please... how can I say goodbye forever to him in ten minutes? I love him; he is all I have left." Tyler begged as the tears started flowing all over again. "Mr. Stewart, I know I don't know you, but I have taken care of Tyler for a few weeks in the last couple of months. Can't you let the boys have one last night together? I promise I will drop him off tomorrow at 9:00 AM to your house." Ann promised to Jack. She felt sympathy for the boys who were in love and being torn apart by tragedy. "I'm not trying to be cruel but Tyler has a tendency to run away from his troubles and me." "I promise I won't let him out of my site, sir." David quickly promised to Jack. "If he is not at the house by 9:00 AM, ready to travel, I will call the police to find him. I will press charges to the full extent of the law against the both of you." Jack left the boys to spend one last night together as he headed back to the house to direct the finishing up of the packing and meet with the auctioneer concerning the furnishings and the home. "Okay boys, go get changed into clothes to go out. I will take you to your favorite restaurant tonight. David please find some of your old clothes from a few years ago for Ty to wear." The night seemed to fly by as the three of amigos shared a lovely meal at the best restaurant in town, "Casa di Italiano", a premium Italian steak house. The boys held hands at dinner and fed each other spumoni during desert. Ann wanted them to have an unforgettable night together they could remember for the rest of their lives. She secretly hoped they would somehow meet up later in life and stay together forever. She was a hopeless romantic and would do anything within her power and the bounds of the law to keep them as a couple. Ann promised to leave the boys alone for the rest of the night and told them she was activating the alarm. This was to warn David if they tried to leave the house that she would immediately be alerted, but he had no plans of going anywhere. He wanted to spend as much quality time with Tyler as possible. Tyler and David made out passionately for over a half and hour, as they realized it was their last night together and they wanted to stay up all night being intimate. Their young libidos did not let them down as they both got off twice each during oral sex, topping and bottoming anal sex. By 2:30 AM they were both exhausted and fell asleep naked in each other's arms. -------------- Tyler was ready and in the driveway still making out with David at 9:00 AM when his father came out of the house, immediately scowling at what he saw. What an embarrassment Jack thought, I hope Tyler doesn't do this openly in Chicago. The moving trucks were already on their way as Jack loaded the over night bag in the rented Chevy. "Alright love birds, time to separate so Tyler can leave." Jack stated in a calm voice hoping his disgust wasn't reflected in his tone. The boys had one last kiss and embrace before Tyler hugged Ann and got in the car. "Mr. Stewart, I hope you will let Ty visit in the summer and on holiday breaks." David requested hopefully. "We will have to see based on schedules." This was Jack's lame attempt at appeasing the boys without letting on that he was planning on keeping Tyler away from David. Soon enough Ty and his dad were on a plane destined for Chicago's O'Hara airport. Tyler was reliving the night in his mind to pass the time, day dreaming of his ex- boyfriend and their last night together. -------------- Life in Chicago was anything but easy for Ty... he returned to his old school with the same old bullies making fun of him and physically tormenting him. Tyler was homesick, he missed his mother, David and his friends from Bloomington, but his father was oblivious to Tyler as he was too wrapped up in his career and re-planning the wedding with his fiancé. Tensions became strained between Ty and Jack when his father found out that he had been emailing and calling David. "Forget about your little faggot boyfriend. You are never going to see him again and if you do not straighten out I will send you off to a Christian school that will reprogram the gayness out of you." "What the hell do you mean I will never see David again? You said if our schedules worked out I could visit him." "I was being polite in light of the situation. You should be happy I let the two of you spend the night together. Why can't you ever be happy with whatever I do for you? When are you going to grow out of this phase of being a pansy? Man-up and stop being a little perverted freak!" "Fuck off!" Tyler yelled as he took off. Tyler foresaw an incident like this with his father and was prepared. He had been stashing money, clothes, subway tickets and other items needed to successfully run away. He knew his dad would never accept him for who he was and his future step mother was just being nice to him. He was sure she was trying to amuse his father to stay in his good graces. Most fathers would have gone after their children, but Jack was tired of trying to deal with Tyler. He figured he would file a missing persons report in the morning if Tyler wasn't back. After all how far would the little munchkin get without any money or other resources? -------------- Chicago is not Disneyland Tyler thought as he navigated himself toward the bus station. The subways were dirty, smelly and noisy as well as dangerous for adults, let alone for a twelve year old undersized boy, in certain parts of town. One last transfer and I'm on the sub that will drop me off at the bus stop Tyler saw on the subway map in his hand as he stepped off of the train. As soon as the train left the subway station, three African-American 16 to 17 year old gang members surrounded Tyler, who didn't notice until one of them grabbed him by his coat collars and lifted him off the ground. "Listen up you little fucker, either you give us the money you have or we take it... and if we take it you are going to end up dead!" The older boy threatened as he started to carry Tyler toward the edge of the plat form above the train tracks. "Here take it..." Tyler whimpered as he handed his wallet to his muggers. "You go to the cops, our gang members will kill you and your family, we have your address fag boy." As the three teenagers ran up the subway steps, Tyler realized he would have to go back to his father. Tyler's subway card was in his wallet along with any identification that he would have had. He should have memorized his home phone number and address but he was too consumed with grief over losing his mother and David. He felt lucky that he remembered how to breathe. He couldn't give up this easy and let his father win... Tyler was sick of giving up and wasn't going to go back without a fight; this was one fight his pride wasn't going to let him quit. Tyler decided he would try to find a place to sleep the night since it was warm and dry, he would then figure out a way to get home in the morning. Let his father actually think about someone other than himself. After wondering around the streets near the sub station, Tyler found a suitable place that was deserted and sheltered, and that seemed safe as the sun was setting. Tyler fell asleep in an indentation between two buildings that were not easily visible. Tyler was awaken by the sound of four gun shots so loud he felt like he could reach out and grab the gun. He could hear the victim groan out his last breathes as the assailant stole the wounded man's shoes, watch and wallet, before running down the alley way. It seemed like hours before the victim ceased his heavy breathing, let alone before the cops actually showed up. "Son are you alright?" Tyler finally heard the police officer ask while snapping his fingers in front of Tyler's eyes. Tyler couldn't answer, only shake his head no, he wasn't alright. His father, the mugging, the shooting, his mother, Jason and David, and school were all reasons why he was not alright. The officer tried to get Tyler to speak but gave up figuring the boy was in shock. He patted down Tyler looking for a wallet or some other type of identification prior to picking him up and carrying him out of the alley way to an ambulance to have him checked out. Medically Tyler was okay except for being slightly dehydrated and malnourished from his refusal to eat since leaving David two weeks ago. Tyler was taken to human services where he was assigned a case number, and his picture and description was compared against the national database for missing persons... no hits were found. He was placed in an individual psychiatric room in the hospital due to his unresponsiveness to the police department and human services.
