I'm keeping it real on here. This story is about a young boy who is trying to find who he is in life and ends up finding out who he is in strange, but new and exciting ways. Anyway, I hope you enjoy Skylar. ----------------------------------------- >From Chapter Two of Skylar: After fifth period ended, Skylar packed his stuff and headed to his final period of the day, which was another period that he shared with Haley. He figured this class was a good way to look for signals that Haley liked him. He knew that if any aspect of school would actually push thoughts like Skylar's into full drive, this would be the one. He walked down the halls and headed down to the place that would help determine what Haley really thought of Skylar. When he arrived, he looked around and spotted Haley sitting in their usual spot in the gym waiting for their gym coach to walk in and tell them to change out for PE. End of Chapter Two __________________________________ Skylar Chapter Three - Words I Couldn't Say Skylar walked over to Haley and sat next to him on the hard bench. They began to discuss what they might do for PE that day hoping that they would not have to run the track. The boys predicted that because they said something about it that they had jinxed it and the coach would decide to make them run the track that day. A few minutes later, the coach came in and began talking to them. Sure enough, the coach had decided to make the class run track that day. When the order had been given, he told everyone to head to the locker rooms to change out into their PE clothes. On the way down the hall towards the boy's locker room, Skylar and Haley contemplated the ways of escape from PE that day. "We could always just head into the woods when the coach looks the other way. It's only a fifty yard run,"Haley said. "I don't know. I'm pretty sure they have cameras and stuff watching the woods to make sure kids don't make it off campus,"Skylar pointed out. "Yeah, you're probably right. I swear they always treat us like prisoners at school. It's like they're expecting us to run into the woods so we can get high or something like that. Like they can't trust us,"Haley said. "They can't trust us; we're just kids,"Skylar said sarcastically. "God, adults make me sick,"Haley said. "Here here,"Skylar agreed. With that, the boys walked into the boy's locker room and headed to their lockers close to the back of the room. When they got there, they noticed that the coach headed into his office which had a window that looked out into the locker room. The boys always joked around about the coach spying on them while they were dressing out. "Look's like Coach is gettin' ready for a little bit of kid porn," Haley said. "Except for the whole being butt-naked thing,"Skylar mentioned, "He's still getting' an eyeful in there." "Oh well, we better get changed out,"Skylar said as he pulled his shirt over his head messing his hair up a little bit. Skylar looked for any kind of signs that Haley liked him as he changed out into his PE clothes. He tried to concentrate on his goal, but as Haley slid his blue jean shorts down his smooth, tan legs revealing his white briefs, Skylar lost his train of thought. He stared at the beautiful wonder in front of him knowing that if he gawked any longer, he'd be caught. He shook his thoughts off and dropped his pants off himself. As he began to put on his black, Nike shorts, he caught his best friend staring at him the same way he had just been staring at Haley. He decided that it still wasn't enough evidence, so he just kept on changing out. He pulled his shorts all the way up over his underwear and then pulled on his white, sleeveless shirt that had a Nike symbol on the chest. He watched as Haley pulled on a pair of Nike shorts and a plain, light blue, sleeveless shirt. The boys put their shoes back on, packed up their clothes in their backpacks and put them in their lockers, and then the two of them headed out of the locker room. Skylar thought about what had just happened. He knew Haley was staring at him while he had his pants down, but he was not sure if Haley had seen him staring as well. He figured he would find out soon enough anyway. His thoughts reflected back to the sight of Haley changing, thinking about how cute he looked and how awesome it would be if it turned out that they both had feelings for each other. Skylar still did not quite grasp the concept of boy-boy love or even like, but he knew that he felt something special for his best friend that he had never felt for anyone in his entire life. He couldn't put his finger on it completely, but he knew it was distinctive and out of the ordinary for him. He felt as if he could like his best friend in a boyfriend sort of way, but he did not understand why he felt that way or how it would turn out. All he knew was that he enjoyed the feelings he had for the boy and he hoped that it would progress into something even better. The boys waited on the porch of the school for his coach and the rest of the class to get there so the coach could lead them to the track that sat about fifty yards from the forest entrance. "We're always the first ones out here,"Skylar noted. "Yeah. What can I say? We're just awesome like that. So what do you say we escape into the woods when the coach isn't looking?" Haley asked. "You weren't really serious about that, were ya?" Skylar asked. "Hell yeah I was serious. You really wanna be made to run seventeen thousand miles before we get to even take a break?" Haley asked. "Well, no, but what about -" Skylar was interrupted. "The cameras? Skylar, Skylar^Åpoor naïve Skylar. This little rinky-dink town don't have enough to even pay for the cameras inside. How do you think they could pay for cameras outside? Besides, there's only like two hundred kids in the whole school; most of them being either the kindergarteners or the high schoolers. Those're the groups that get watched the most, so what do you say?" Haley asked. "You run a convincing story, but it still sounds crazy. Don't you think Coach would notice that two out of ten kids in class are missing?" Skylar asked. "No. He's like a hundred years old. He probably don't even remember how many kids he has in his class most of the time anyway," Haley said. "I don't know Haley. This just sounds too risky,"Skylar said. "Fine. Stay. Run until you're heart's dead. Meanwhile, I'm going to the woods. You can come if you want,"Haley said. A few seconds later, the coach and the rest of the kids came out of the school and the coach led all the boys to the track so they could run. Skylar and Haley ran for a little bit until they noticed that the coach was sitting in a lawn chair on the side of the track watching the boys as the ran. He was not moving his head, which meant that he was not looking at one side of the field. Fortunately, it was the side that Haley wanted to escape out of that the coach was not looking towards. Haley slowed down his running trying to stay away from the other boys and Skylar slowed down along with him. "You gonna go with me?" Haley asked as he jogged. "Fine. You win,"Skylar said. "Yay, I win!" Haley said as he stopped on the track. Skylar also stopped with Haley on the track and they watched the coach. He had his head turned the other way and he actually looked as if he was sleeping. He had not moved from that same spot since they arrived at the track. Haley watched as the other boys kept running the opposite way of them. "Okay, hurry. Let's go before the others see us,"Haley said as he turned towards the forest and began running at full speed followed by Skylar. The boys ran as fast as their legs would take them towards the inviting forest. Skylar felt like a snail compared to Haley whose legs were stronger than that of a horse. Haley glanced back to make sure no one saw them, and then he stopped suddenly. When Skylar caught up to him, Haley grabbed him by the arm and pulled himself and Skylar low to the ground. "Hey, what's up with that?" Skylar asked referring to being pulled to the ground without warning. "The other boys are headed towards our way on the track. If someone sees us, they'll probably rat us out,"Haley explained. "Oh, well why didn't you just say that before pulling my arm out of socket?" Skylar asked as he rubbed his arm in pain. "Oh, stop being such a baby,"Haley said jokingly. "Can we run again now?" Skylar asked. "As soon as the others are running the opposite way,"Haley said. The boys waited for the others on the track to run the opposite way from them so they could start sprinting towards the woods. As soon as they were running the opposite way of Skylar and Haley, they began to dash towards the forest again. They ran top speed again until they finally made it to the woods. When they made it inside the forest, they stopped right under the trees to catch their breaths. "God, that was a rush,"Skylar said. "Tell me about it. Well, Sky, you've now broken the rules. How does it feel to be a bad boy?" Haley asked. "Better than I imagined,"Skylar admitted. "Well, wanna head to the river?" Haley asked. "Yeppers. Where is it?" "Just down that trail over there." With that, the boys walked through the thick, green forest together towards the river. The sound of the rapidly moving water was growing stronger as they progressed towards it. A few minutes passed, and finally, the boys arrived at the river, which was the highlight of their small town. The river ran through town a little ways up, but they were far enough away from school and town now that no one would be able to find them. Seeing a large, flat boulder in front of them, the boys pulled their shoes and socks off, sat on the boulder, and waded their feet in the cold water. "Man, it's cold,"Skylar pointed out. "I think cold's an understatement. I guess that means colder temperatures are on the way,"Haley said. "How do you figure?" Skylar asked. "Well, the river runs from further up north and I reckon that when it gets colder up north, it sends colder water down the river to here. Hence the thought that temperatures are dropping for autumn,"Haley said. "Well, it's getting close to September. Guess it's time for autumn." "Man, it's so beautiful out here, isn't it?" Haley asked. "Always is,"Skylar agreed. "Huge green trees, the waterfall right over there, the birds singing all over the place, it's like a rain forest through here; only not,"Haley said. Skylar noticed Haley looking over at him with an ever-so-cute smile on his face. It was as if he was lost in a trance or something as he gazed in best friend's eyes. He could not bring himself to say anything to Haley, but instead, he just gazed back; the two of them losing touch with reality. To break the ice, Haley reached his hand down into the cold water and then splashed a handful of water into Skylar's face. Skylar gasped as the chilly water hit his warm face making Haley laugh out loud. With that, Skylar splashed Haley back. The boys got into a splashing contest, and before they knew it, they were almost soaked. "Well, we're drenched now. Coach is gonna kill us for this,"Haley said. "Oh yeah? Gee, I figured we'd get in trouble for escaping campus during school hours, but whatever you say, boss,"Skylar said. "Shut up, nerd,"Haley said. "Oh well, I guess we could just tell Coach that we got wet racing each other on the track,"Skylar said. "Crazy as hell, but it just might work. I'm proud of you, Skylar. You've now proven yourself to be a good liar,"Haley said. "Wow. I don't think anybody's ever said anything that nice to me,"Skylar said sarcastically. "You're doing very well, grasshopper. Now I just gotta learn you how to pull pranks on the teachers without ever being suspected because of your tendency to be the good angel-boy who does nothing wrong,"Haley said. "Sounds like a good plan to me,"Skylar said. Haley began to stare at Skylar again the way he had before. Peaceful silence rose between the two of them as Skylar caught his glance. They smiled at one another sweetly. "You know, Sky, I forgot to ask you. What did you think about last night while you were^Åyou know?" Haley asked boldly. Skylar was shocked at this question. He wasn't sure how to answer this. On one hand, Haley was passing a lot of signs at the moment that he felt the way that Brock had described earlier that day, but on the other hand, he could just be acting this way unconsciously making Skylar take it the wrong way. He tried to rule out the pros and cons of both answer choices, but he still could not make a decision fast enough. "Is it that bad?" Haley finally asked. "Oh no, it's just that I was^Åtrying to remember is all,"Skylar chose his words carefully trying not to give out too much information. "Did you remember trying the examples I gave you?" Haley asked. "I tried them, but most of them didn't work. I remember that much." "Did you try the image of the hot bikini girls?" Haley asked. "Yeah. Didn't work." "Hmm. What about Kristy Bushe topless?" Haley asked. "Tried that too. Still nothing,"Skylar said. "Well, you certainly didn't think of me, did you?" Haley joked. Skylar paused. He thought maybe this was Haley's way of finding out the truth, but he could not determine whether he was joking or if he was serious. He knew there had to be a catch somewhere in this, but he was not too sure where he would find it. There was definitely something about this whole conversation with Haley that seemed suspicious, but he could not determine whether or not it was merely a coincidence that Haley was asking him this question not even forty minutes after talking to Brock about the situation. "Skylar?" Haley asked with a confused look on his face. Skylar stared at the boy blankly deciding that he would let Haley play this one out himself. He sat there on the boulder silent as a butterfly. He smiled at Haley as the other boy looked at him in the eyes trying to read him. They both sat there wordlessly for what seemed like forever and then something happened that Skylar never expected. Haley leaned in and gave Skylar a small kiss on his cheek and then backed off. "I decided I'd take that as a yes. Was I right?" Haley asked boldly again. Skylar still remained silent recovering from the shock. He stared at Haley with a blank stare again and wondered how in the world Haley knew about it. The whole time, Haley knew that Skylar had been imagining him the night before. But how? There was no one who knew about it except for Brock and there's no way he could've gotten to Haley in time to tell him all of what they talked about before they got to the gym. So how did he know? "You okay, Skylar?" Haley asked. "Yeah, but^Ånever mind,"Skylar said. "Sky, I didn't just freak you out, did I?" Haley asked seriously. "No, not at all. But how did you know? I mean, how did you know about what I was imagining?" Skylar asked. "Okay, I might as well be honest with you. Skylar, I've liked you for a little while now, and I never knew how to tell you. So I talked to Brock and George about it after they got over the shock about the whole thing, and they came up with this plan to find out if you felt the same way or not. But every plan we tried out went to hell in a hand basket. Then after I told you about `playing with yourself' and everything, I had no idea what it would lead to. Then today, you told Brock about your feelings, so he texted the things you were saying to George by cell phone under his desk while you were trying to answer some questions on a project ya'll were doing,"Haley explained. "I guess that explains why he kept trying to get me to answer all the damn the questions,"Skylar pointed out. "Well, after George found out, he told me about it during fifth period, so I came up with the plan to get us out here so we could talk about it,"Haley said. "It worked pretty well. So you knew the whole time and didn't say anything?" Skylar asked curiously. "What was I supposed to say? `Hey Skylar, I know you like me, so we can be boyfriends now.' I mean, that would be stupid to say, right?" Haley said. "You wanna be boyfriends now?" Skylar asked confusedly. "I don't know. I mean^ÅI mean, I don't know,"Haley said. "Does this mean that we're^Åyou know?" Skylar asked. "What? Gay? I guess. I haven't really thought about it much. The only thing I thought about before was finding out if you felt the same way about me as I did about you,"Haley said. "Well, do you like girls at all?" Skylar asked. "Honestly, no. I think some girls are pretty or whatever, but I don't like dating girls, you know?" Haley explained. "I feel the same way. Ashley likes me, but I could never go out with her. I'd feel way too weird doing that,"Skylar said. "I know. Well, the point is, I guess, that we both like each other in a way that's more than just best friends. I don't get it, but I know I like it. Shouldn't that be the only thing that matters?" Haley asked. "So^Åare we gonna be boyfriends now?" Skylar asked again. "You know what I think? I think we should just take it one day at a time. Just like my grandma says a lot. Maybe we'll know more after some time goes by." "Sounds like a good plan,"Skylar said. Haley leaned over again and gave Skylar another kiss on the cheek. After that, Skylar turned around a little bit towards Haley's face and lightly kissed him on the lips knowing absolutely nothing about one-on-one affection. Haley kissed him back softly and they stayed like that for a few seconds. Finishing their kiss up, the boys got up and began to walk back towards the school campus. On the way there, Haley wrapped his arm around Skylar's waist as they walked through the forest. When they made it close to the school campus, they moved away from each other so it would not look questioning to anybody who might see them. When they got to the edge of the forest, they looked over towards the track to make sure no one could see them coming out of the woods. They slowly walked out of the forest and into the field. As soon as they started towards the track, the coach came out from behind a tree in the field, and blocked their ways of getting anywhere else. The boys knew they were busted now. "Have fun guys?" the coach asked. "Umm, we umm^Åyou know what? In our defense, we thought you were sleeping,"Haley said. "What? How does that help our case?" Skylar asked. "Principle's office. Now!" the coach commanded them. ------------------------------------------------ The boys found themselves sitting in the principle's office waiting for him to walk in. They had already been waiting for a little over five minutes and he hadn't come in yet. "Well, you think he's ever comin' in here?" Haley asked. "Don't know. Well, that window's open. We could always just escape and head for Canada,"Skylar suggested. Haley chuckled. "Looks like I've created a monster." "Look, whatever happens when Banister gets here, I want you to know that I wouldn't trade our escape act for anything,"Skylar said. "Me neither,"Haley said with a bright smile. When Banister walked in, he sat down behind his desk facing towards the boys with his hands folded on the surface of the desk. He gave the boys a stern look and it was evident that he was getting ready to say something. "You know where you guys went wrong right?" Mr. Banister asked. Out of Banister's view, Skylar slipped his hand over Haley's fingers. Haley wrapped his fingers around Skylar's hand and they kept up their hand holding throughout the entire conversation. "Well, we know where we went wrong. But we also know where we didn't go wrong,"Haley said as he kept Skylar's hand joined with his own. End of Chapter Three: ------------------------------------------------ Okay, the end of chapter three. I hope you enjoyed it. Well, yeah, Skylar and Haley are now officially together. Of course, it's evident that they have no idea what they're doing yet, but they know they have a different kind of love for each other. In the next chapter, they will experience new things together. Believe me, they will enjoy it. Once again, you're more than welcome to leave me an email for your comments and/or criticisms, but please don't expect a reply because I honestly just don't have the time to do so. I'd love to, but I'm always busy with something whether it's the story or real life. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this chapter and that you read chapter four. Later.
