Fup ****************************************************************************** FROM CHAPTER 22 "I think we coordinate just fine," Kelly answered with a wink. "Me too, we're gettin' better at it, anyway." "Practice makes perfect." David laughed, shook his head and went to call for his ride home. UNDER PRESSURE/HIGH SCHOOL 23 - Possibilities David didn't think it would ever stop raining. It was Wednesday and the skies were still overcast with rain falling on and off since he returned from his camping trip with Kelly. So, here he was, reclining on the sofa in the living room with a book. Lynn came walking in and turned on the TV, flipping through the channels to find something to watch. "That thing will rot your brain," David commented. "Just because YOU don't like to watch it, doesn't mean I don't. You're not the only one in this house you know," she snapped back. "Jeeez, Lynn, I was joking. Take a pill or something." Lynn finally settled on a channel, and turned the volume up. David had a retort on his lips before he decided to just let it go. Another smart comment would just cause problems. He sighed and closed his book, sitting up on the sofa, trying to bore holes through the back of his sister's head with his eyes. Not getting any response, he smiled to himself, obviously he wasn't psychic. He got off the sofa, walked over next to Lynn and sniffed the air. "Too late," he observed. "What?" "I can smell your brain from here, it's already rotted." Sitting on the floor, Lynn swung her arm back at David, not taking her eyes of the screen, "Shut up." By chance, her hand contacted David's groin, sending a jolt of pain through his body. "Dammit Lynn," he gasped, his hands immediately clasping the injured area, "what the hell did you do that for?" Lynn turned to him and grinned, "Fixed you, didn't it?" David drew back his hand to smack the grinning face looking up at him. Lynn grinned even wider, "You do, and I'll tell mom." "Why are you such a pain?" David angrily asked. "I'm not," Lynn replied. "Look in the dictionary, your picture is beside the word." "Shut up, David. I'll hit you there again," Lynn warned. Still gently massaging his crotch, David thought that girls ought to have balls just for one day so they would know what it felt like. He shot Lynn an angry glance, but she had turned her attention back to the screen. "I could kick her," he thought, but decided once again it would cause too many problems. "Enjoy your fucking show," he snarled, gingerly walking toward his bedroom. "Awww, I'm telling mom you used the 'f' word." Glancing back over his shoulder, he retorted, "Go right ahead, and I'll tell her what I know about you." "You don't know anything," Lynn replied, a worried look flashing across her face. "You'd be surprised," David answered, leaving the room. "Okay, I won't tell," he heard Lynn yell as he entered his bedroom and closed the door. He sat on the edge of his bed, legs spread, trying to ease the pain he still felt in his balls. A little brother would be so much better. Or even an older one wouldn't be bad either. He stood up and locked his door, then removed his shorts and briefs. The pain eased a little when he took off his briefs, but was still a dull ache. He thought about jacking off, but Lynn was in the other room, and he hurt anyway. Sighing, he put his shorts back on, tossing the briefs in the dirty clothes basket in his room. He laid back on the bed and closed his eyes, willing the pain away, or trying to. He'd been laying there a few minutes, when the phone rang. He heard Lynn answer it, then come back the hallway. "David, it's for you, a Mrs. Murray or something like that." David eased himself off the bed, brow furrowed. He didn't know anyone by that name. He opened his door and walked out the hallway, telling Lynn to turn down the TV on his way by the living room. She huffed a little, but did as she was told anyway. "Hello?" he answered. "Is this David?" asked the female voice on the other end. "Yes, it is." "David, this is Mrs. Murray, Chad's mother." "Oh hi," David responded with a smile. "How are you?" "Oh, I'm fine, thanks for asking. You're a polite young man, aren't you?" David blushed, "Well, ummm, I guess." He heard Mrs. Murray chuckle on the other end, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you." "S'ok, it happens all the time." "The reason I'm calling is that Chad has been wanting to come see you this week. He seems to have attached himself to you," Mrs. Murray laughed. David smiled, "Well, he's a good kid." "You don't see him at home," Mrs. Murray joked, getting a laugh from David. Then he heard her cover the mouthpiece and say, "Just hold on Chad, I'm still talking." David heard her sigh, and take her hand away, once again directing her conversation to David. "See what I mean?" David chuckled a little, "Well, he's 10, I was that way too." "Well, I need to get back to why I called. Are your parents going to be home this evening?" "Mom will be, tonight is dad's bowling night." "Well, I thought I'd come over and talk to them about an idea I had. And if I bring Chad, that will kill two birds with one stone." "Sounds cool, I'll need to call my mom and tell her that you're coming." "Well, just give me a call back when you're finished, okay?" She gave David her number, then hung up, David chuckling at Chad's faint complaints at her hanging up the phone. David called his mom, telling her about the phone conversation and confirmed that she was going to be home, then called Mrs. Murray's number. "Hello," came Chad's voice over the phone. David deepened his voice, "Yes, is the lady of the house home?" "Who?" "Is your mommy there, little boy?" Unable to keep up the facade, David chuckled. "Who is this?" "Hey, Chad, it's Dave." "Hi Dave," Chad responded enthusiastically. "Mom wouldn't let me talk to you before." "How are ya, kiddo?" "Bored, it's raining, and Alex and I have to play inside. Mom keeps yelling at us for being too loud, but it's raining and all," Chad replied in a rush of words. David laughed, "Hey, I need to talk with your mom." "She's in the basement, hold on," Chad said, then yelled for his mother. "Hey Chad, next time cover the phone, man. You almost broke my eardrum." Chad giggled, then his mom was on the phone. "Hi David." "Hi Mrs. Murray, mom said it was cool for you all to come over tonight. She said about seven would be good." "Okay, that will give us time to have supper, I'll see you then." She heard her give the phone back to Chad with the admonishment to keep it short, since he had company. "So we're coming over to your house tonight?" Chad asked. "Yep, seems that way." "Cooool, well I gotta go. Mom said it's rude to talk on the phone when you have company. See you tonight." Then the sound of the dial tone. David shook his head and replaced the phone in the cradle. "Who was that?" Lynn asked as he walked back toward his bedroom. David ignored her and walked back to his room. He was still grinning at Chad's antics. His conversation had brightened his day a little, but he was wondering what Mrs. Murray wanted to talk about with his mom. The thought passed through his mind that maybe Chad had told his mom about their 'incident' at the swimming hole, but dismissed it almost immediately. After all, Mrs. Murray was friendly on the phone. Shrugging to himself, he laid back on his bed after closing his door most of the way. He heard Lynn come back the hallway and closed his eyes, feigning sleep. The door opened a little, and he assumed Lynn was still wanting to know who Mrs. Murray was. A few seconds later, he heard her walk back out to the living room, once again turning up the volume on the TV. It was about ten minutes after seven when he heard a car pull into the driveway. Looking out the living room window, he saw Chad and Mrs. Murray get out of the car. Chad started running toward the door and Mrs. Murray grabbed his arm, saying something to him with a serious expression. Chad nodded, and the two of them walked toward the house. When the doorbell rang, he walked out into the dining room as his mom opened the door. "Hello, Mrs. Barker," Chad's mom greeted his with a smile. "Please, it's Betty," answered his mom, ushering them into the kitchen. David grinned at Chad, who was shyly following his mom inside, getting an answering smile from the blond haired boy. "This is Chad," Mrs. Murray introduced her son. "Don't be rude, Chad," she warned with a smile. "Hi Mrs. Barker." "Hello Chad, nice to finally meet you. The last time I saw you, we weren't properly introduced," replied his mom with a smile. David just rolled his eyes, getting another grin from the boy. "Why don't you two go back to David's room? You'd probably have more fun there than listening to us talk," David's mom suggested. "Okay, c'mon Chad," David offered. Getting a nod from his mom, Chad walked over to David, who smiled and started walking toward his room, "This way kiddo." The two women went into the living room to talk, and the boys entered David's bedroom. "Wow! You have a cool room," Chad enthused, standing in the doorway, looking around. "Uh, Chad, you CAN come in you know," David laughed, sitting on the desk chair. Chad blushed a little, and walked further into the room. "Wow, these are so cool," he said again, this time his attention directed toward the model rockets displayed on David's bureau. "Yeah, they're pretty neat," answered the older boy. "You really shoot 'em off and all?" "Sometimes," David answered. "A couple of us have 'em and go out to the ballfields to launch 'em." "Cool. I'd like to go sometime." "No sweat, man. Next time we go, I'll give you a call." "So, who's the cutie," came a voice from the doorway. "Chad, this is my.....sister, Lynn," David introduced. "Hi," Chad said, glancing to the floor. "Aww, he's shy, that's so cute." "Shut up Lynn, give him a break, okay?" Lynn huffed a little, then turned toward her room, leaving the two boys alone. "Sorry, man," David apologized. "She can be a pain." "I know, she's like Cindy," Chad answered grinning. "Girls are stupid sometimes." "Yeah, I totally agree," David laughed. "At least mine's younger than me." "Yeah, Cindy's always bossing me around and stuff," Chad said, still wandering around the room. Seeing the bookcase, Chad walked over to it. "Wow, you've got a lot of books." "I like to read a little," Chad admitted. "Not as much as you." "Sometimes it keeps me from going crazy," David laughed. Chad pulled a Scout Handbook from the shelf, then glanced up at David. "You're in Scouts?" "Yep, since I was like eight. All I have to do is wait another month, and I'll be Eagle." "Really? That's cool. So is it fun?" "Yeah, I like it, I just got back from New Mexico last month from a camping trip." "Really? Cool! What was it like?" David told the younger boy about his experiences at Philmont, and some of the basic stuff they did in Scouts. Chad sat on the bed and listened intently, once in a while interrupting with a question or comment. "That sounds cool," Chad said. "Wonder if mom and dad would let me join when I'm old enough?" "Well, if they do, I can give you a ride probably. I'll have my license next month. And dad and I are going to look at cars this weekend." "Is Kelly in Scouts?" "No, he never joined. But we do our own camping and stuff," David responded with a smile. "Oh, maybe if mom and dad won't let me join Scouts, I can go with you guys sometime." "Maybe," David agreed. "I'd have to ask Kel." "He's cool too." David laughed, "Yeah, I think so. He's like my best friend." "Yeah, Alex is mine, we do a lot of stuff together and all." "It's cool to have a best friend, huh?" David asked. "Uh huh, mom says he might as well be my twin brother. She says we're cavorts in crime." "Cavorts?" David asked. Then laughed, "You mean cohorts." "I guess, I dunno," Chad shrugged, putting the book back on the shelf. "So what did your mom want to talk to mine about?" David asked the boy. Chad shrugged again, "I dunno." "Oh, I thought it might be about swimming or something," David asked evasively. "Nah, I never tell her anything about what we do," Chad answered innocently, on a different wavelength than David - but answering the question on David's mind, nonetheless. "Cool, I like it there. Glad we moved out here," David stated, relieved. "Too bad we live on the other end of the road," Chad said frowning. "I'd like to come over here more often, but mom won't let me ride my bike that far." "S'ok, Chad, never know. If you join Scouts, we'll see each other a lot." "Yeah," Chad broke out into a grin. "That'd be cool." "I dunno, I wonder if I could put up with you all that time," David teased. "Yeah, I get on mom's nerves all the time," Chad admitted a little seriously. "Hey, I was kidding you. I think it'd be fun." Chad hung his head a little, sitting on the bed, "Yeah, maybe." David was concerned that he'd upset Chad, and knelt down on the floor in front of him. Then he saw the grin. "You little beggar," he laughed. "Fooled ya," Chad giggled. "Well, you know what happens when you fool me?" David asked. Then he raised his hands and dug his fingers into Chad's ribs. "You get tickle tortured." Chad yelped then started almost screaming as he writhed under David's assault. "Stop it!" he gasped. "David!" came the yell from the living room. The two mothers walked back the hallway, joined by Lynn, to see a red-faced Chad gasping for breath as David tickled him. "Leave the poor boy alone," David's mother smiled. David turned to look at her over his shoulder, relenting his attack on the gasping boy. "Okay," he said. "Just teaching him about paybacks." Mrs. Murray laughed and turned to David's mom, "Well at least they get along. Not many teenagers would play with a ten-year-old." David stood up and turned to face the three standing in the doorway, "Well, he's a pretty cool kid. We have a lot of fun swimming and stuff." Mrs. Murray smiled, "So I hear.....Chad...." Whatever she was going to say was interrupted by Chad jumping on David's back. "Oooof," David grunted, then tumbled to the floor off-balance with a giggling Chad still on his back. "That's enough, you two," Mrs. Murray warned. "Chad, let the poor boy up." "Okay, sorry." Chad rolled himself off David's back, and stood back a little as David rose to his feet. The teen grinned at Chad and said, "Paybacks." "No more of those tonight," David's mother stated firmly. "Chad and his mom are ready to go." "Awwww, mom, we were just starting to have fun." Mrs. Murray rolled her eyes, "I can see that, any more fun and you'd be tearing apart the house. Now come on Chad, we're going." "Okay," Chad sighed, then grinned at David, "See ya later." "Yep, probably." The boys followed the women into the kitchen, trailed by Lynn. They said their goodbyes, and soon Chad and his mom were backing out of the driveway. David turned to his mom. "So why did she want to talk to you?" "We'll discuss it later, okay?" "C'mon mom, ummm, it wasn't anything bad, was it?" "No, David. Don't be so pessimistic all the time," his mother answered, with a small smile. "It was nothing bad, I just need to talk with your father first," she reassured. "Okay, and I'm not pessimistic." "Well, if you say so, but that's the way it seems sometimes," replied his mother. "What's pessimistic?" asked Lynn. "Always seeing the bad side of things," his mom explained. "Oh," then she laughed at David, "Yeah, ya are." "Whatever," David scoffed at her comment. "Don't you need to go to bed or something?" "David....," his mom warned. Lynn grinned, then went back to her room, leaving David with his mom. "I'm going to send you two away alone together sometime. MAKE you get along with each other," she said. "Ugh," was David's only response. His mom sighed, then walked toward the living room, "One of these days, you two are going to have to get along." David grimaced at his mom's back at the thought. Then he turned and made his own way to his room, once again picking up a book to escape. ***************************************************************************** Ever get the feeling that a seemingly insignificant event or person ends up making a huge difference? :-) Keep the faith.
