Teens Intertwined: Part 3 It was lunch hour, and Nicole was nowhere to be seen. Heather stood on her tiptoes, looking over cafeteria, not wanting to panic. Her best friend turned girlfriend was not in their usual table. Heather started sweating, her hands shaking. She hadn't eaten alone for years, and could not imagine a day without seeing Nic. "You okay, Heathy?" Came a soft voice. Heather turned her head to see Amanda, her and Nicole's mutual friend. Amanda, unlike her friends, was tall, lean, girl with a soft, kind face. "You're pale... Well, more so than usual." The joke about Heather's fairness made the brunette crack a smile. Amanda grabbed Heather's elbow and they went to their table. Amanda started chatting about her boring math class, biting at a juice red apple. Heather listened half-heartedly, peering out the small windows, hoping to catch a glimpse of her older lover. "Hmmm? Yeah, yeah, I hate fractions, too." Heather muttered, pushing her mac n' cheese around with her fork. "Hey, have you seen Nicole? I, er, I have her textbook." Amanda frowned, her face openily showing her skepticism. "Nic's a grade older than you, you have similar classes... But no, I haven't. She missed an important test today in Chemistry." Amanda tossed her apple core into trashcan, smiling at her accuracy. "Maybe I'll go out of the basketball team, after all. She hasn't texted you? Aren't you two connected at the hip?" Heather pulled out her phone from her backpack. FUCK. It had been off! With violently shaking hands, Heather fumbled to turned her phone on. Within seconds, Heather's phone exploded with 1 text, 2 texts, 4 texts, 5 missed calls. Can you stop by at lunch? The first one said. The second: Please Heather! Text me. The third: Heather! Fucking hell. And the last: I. Need. You. Heather shoved her chair back, sick with worry and self-hatred. "Igottago!" She muttered to Amanda. Amanda just nodded; Heather and Nic had always has a weird bond, and Amanda had learned not to question it. Racing as fast as she could, Heather blew down the hall and out the doors. The world was a hot blur, using muscle memory to unlock her bike and pedal down the street, having no second thought about the classes she was missing. Nicole lived a few blocks down from he High School, and the two girls had walked together to and form the school when they were younger. The bike crashed down on the green lawn in front of Nicole's house; Heather could care less about if it was stolen. Heather's head was swimming with pain and concern, her entire body suddenly ultra sensitive to every touch, smell, sound, and site. The bark of a dog: Was she bitten? The gloomy sky above: Is she leaving me? The smell of pie: Is her head in an oven? Heather tried the knob. It was unlocked. "Nicole!" Shouted Heather, looking frantically around the living room and the kitchen. She heard some rustling upstairs, and immediately sprinted to the top floor. She looked into the bathroom, and there was her Nicole. Nicole's short brown hair was messy around her frightenly white face. She was curled into the fetal position against a vomit filled toilet bowl, shaking with such force that her teeth chattered together. She donned an extra extra large teeshirt, the type she wore on lazy Sunday mornings. Her mouth was crusted with dried vomit, her knees against her chest. She seemed to have no knowledge her girlfriend was there. Heather's heart broke into pieces at the sight of her girlfriend so ill. An overwhelming sense of failure washed over her. She had let her over down, unknowingly abandoning her. But Heather knew she didn't have time to kick herself, she had to help Nicole. She flushed the toilet and wet a washcloth under the tap. With a tender touch only a lover can give, Heather cleaned Nicole's face, muttering a gentle "I'm so sorry" into the sick girl's hair. With the strength of love, Heather lifted Nicole and carried her into bed. "He... Heath..." Nicole started to weakly squeak out, staring up at Heather as if she were an angel. Heather placed a finger to Nicole's chapped lips, hushing her tenderly. She wrapped her love up in thick blankets, hoping to quell the chills. Nicole was ill and dehydrated, having not kept anything down in 24 hours. "You're fever is 101.2," Heather frowned, looking at the thermometer. "I'm staying with you tonight. Here, drink this." Heather held a capful of Nyquil to Nicole's lips. Nicole sipped it without arguing. A capful of water was then pressed to her lips, and Nicole drank that as well. "I'd give you more, but I don't want you to throw that up, along with the Nyquil. You'll be asleep soon..." Heather held Nicole, watching as her soul mate drift off to long awaited slumber. That night, Nicole got a call from her mother, saying she would not be home 'til 10 am. Heather served as Nicole's nurse, keeping her on a strict schedule of fever reduction medication and small sips of water, as well as doing both the girls' homework. Every rough cough and moan of pain was a stab to Heather's heart. Seeing the person you love so deeply in such misery was almost too much to bear, but Heather stuck through it for Nic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Heather?" Nicole blinked her eyes open. The light overwhelmed her senses and it took some time to fully adjust. She groaned; her entire body ached. The clocked boasted 9:43. What day was it? Has she missed school? AM or PM? Heather startled awake. She has passed out around 6 am on the floor, snuggled up to a text book and her phone, acting as an alarm to go off every 3 hours to give Nicole meds. "Hu? Wha- Nicole!" Heather rubbed her eyes and sat up, blinking away thick sleepiness. Her curly, sultry hair was in a tangled bird's nest, her mascara smudge on her right eye, the both bloodshot. "Here..." She poured a small amount of water into a cup and held it out to her girlfriend. Nicole melted with love. Here her Heather was, having stayed all night at her side, taking care of the ill girl with an overwhelming tenderness. "Oh, Heather..." Nicole reached out and drew Heather into a tight, thankful hug, smelling the sweet perfume Heather wore, kissing the girl's shoulder. "Morning, Heathy. Thank you for-" "I'm sorry!" Heather interrupted Nicole. "You texted and called but my phone was off, I don't know why it was off, and I didn't know but as fast as I could, and homework, and I'll...." Heather was obviously flustered, fumbling for words to explain herself. Nicole just chuckled and shook her head. Heather so often tripped over her words, as was so adorable she was flustered. Her cheeks turned rose and her hazel eyes glittered green with tears. Nicole tried to stand, but was immediately struck by dizziness. Heather eased Nicole back onto the bed, shaking her head. "You're still weak, but you seem so much better. What was that? The flu?" Heather laid in bed next to Nicole, who rested her head on Heather's breasts, the perfect two huge pillows. "My uncle has a 24 hour virus a few days back, and he was at supper last night. That's probably it." Nicole smiled, feeling herself grow strong by the second. She was no longer ill, the virus having cleared her system. "Nicky..." Heather muttered, looking into Nicole's eyes. "Can I go sleeps now?" Nicole's hearth fluttered, and it took everything in her not to squeeze Heather's cheeks and squeal at the younger girl's cavity-causing cuteness. Nicole nodded, feeling a bit sleepy herself. She curled up close to her love. "Thank you so much..." Nicole muttered, her lips finding Heather's forehead. "I owe you..." With a yawn and a sly smirk, Heather whispered before she fell asleep: "You'll find a way..." -- - -- - --- -- --- - -- - Hope you enjoyed part three. If you like it, PLEASE email me!
