Title: Can't Love You - Part II By: Pearl Sanchez "mmm goodmorning" she said as she closed her eyes and rested her head on my shoulder. I turned around. "still tired." "yeah.. come back to bed with me?" I smiled at her and received the smile that never fails to make my heart melt. "ok" Jaydyn rested her head on my lap as I leaned against the headboard. I gentley ran my fingers through her beautifully soft hair, lightly carressing her forehead and hair line with my finger tips. just then I drifted off into another memory. "I don't know Shane..." I said and I flipped another page as I sat comfortably in my purple bean bag chair. "C'mon Shayna, please?" I don't even know anybody there."Shane took my book out of my hands and shut it. "HEY! I was reading that!" "Come on, Shay please?" Shane shot me his infamous sad look. "oh c'mon Shane, please, don't!" He grinned and continued, "please? I want you to go, it will be fun" "Why do you want me there? You're going to be hanging out with Sarah the whole night" Shane suddenly stood there with a serious look on his face. I raised an eyebrow, "what?" He looked behind him, grabbed my computer chair and sat down. "I'm worried about you Shayna." "You're worried about me?" I stated with a fake amused tone. He kept the serious look on his face. I hated it when he was serious. "Seriously Shay, you've been hanging here at the house for weeks now. You quit your job, and you won't tell me why. You're reading... She's Come Undone? What is this crap?!" "Crap, that I happen to like to read ok?" I pried my book out of his hands. "Let's make a deal" "what kind of deal?" "Basketball. If you win, you can stay here at home and continue this Emily Dickinson impersonation. If I win, you hang out with me and Sarah tonight." "No." "Afraid you'll lose?" Shane said tauntingly. I ignored him and continued reading my book. "You don't go out, it seems like you don't have any friends. The only person I've seen you chill with is Sandy. ...and now, Shayna, you were like best friends and now you two seem to hate each others' guts. What's going on?" I let out an annoyed sigh. "It's complicated." "Well then, simplify it for me." I smiled at him, "Don't worry little brother I'm ok." "I'm only 10 minutes younger than you!" "I am still older." "what are you thinking about?" Jaydyn asked me interrupting my thoughts. I opened my mouth to say something but I closed it again shaking my head, "Nothing." "Tell me." I thought of what I wanted to say for a minute. "I... know it's been over a month-" I began to say. But I could not continue. Suddenly it was getting hard for me to breathe and the all too familiar crumbling feeling inside once again threatened to take over and the ringing in my ears started to get louder. ...and tears once again began to fall. Jaydyn abruptly sat up and pulled me close to her. "I cannot believe I let him talk me into this." I said as I stared at my reflection, "Sarah, what'd you do to me?" "I made you gorgeous!" Sarah giggled, "isn't she gorgeous baby?" "She's HOT!" "Ew! get out of here Shane!" I kicked him in the leg. He laughed and we left the bathroom. We entered the building and was momentarily blinded by the flashing lights. The music thumped loudly through the speakers. "GAWD THAT LINE WAS LONG!" I yelled to Shane and Sarah. "YEAH I KNOW!" Shane replied, "C'MON LET'S GO GRAB A TABLE!" 15 minutes later I found myself sitting by myself staring at my half-drunk rum and coke wondering what the heck was I doing there. "hey" someone said and I looked up to this absolutely stunning girl. She held out her hand. "I'm Jaydyn."
