Thanks for reading! ? Maya Today's practice was extremely hard. Probably because coach really wants to win the city championship this year and compared to last year, we probably could if we tried hard enough. But coach was the only one who really wanted to win and maybe some of the other players too, but the rest of the team just wanted to have fun. My arms went lax from all the training, so I had to force myself to keep turning the steering wheel in the direction of my apartment. Finally, I reached the parking lot and placed the car in my parking space. I picked up all my bags and climbed out of the car, my legs barely managing to hold my weight. Suddenly, there was a moving silhouette in the corner of my eye and I dropped my bags at once. Someone caught me in a chokehold from behind but I could tell he was inexperienced because of the strength of his grip. I managed to elbow him hard in the face but three more guys appeared behind some of the cars. One of them I knew, he was probably Julian's closest friend. "Brian," I called out to one of them, "did Julian send you here?" "I don't think that's any of your business, Maya," he sneered. "Then why are you guys here?" They smiled. "To have a little fun." My anger was starting to boil at this point. The other guy I hit groaned, clutching his face and tried to get up. I stared at him with complete hate and stomped down hard on his head. His head smacked the cold, hard floor and he shouted in pain, and I kicked him again hard in the stomach. The weakness in my muscles didn't seem to matter anymore; the only thing I needed was to quench this anger and this bloodlust. All three of the other guys rushed at me and I managed to move through blows and land some myself but three guys all at once were a bit too much for me. They punched me in the face and kicked me all around; it didn't seem it would ever stop. I could feel my skin pulsing from where I've been hit, and I struggled to fight back countless times but they only hit harder then. I fought to stay conscious just so that I didn't give them that satisfaction. A car screeched in the distance and made a stop right in front of us. All the guys stopped what they were doing immediately and stood up straight. A bodyguard stepped out of the car and opened the door for the person I hated most in this world, my brother. "Julian!" I whispered expectantly. He smiled. "Still alive, Maya? You're pretty fucked up aren't you?" I could feel the hate radiating around us and tried to rush him, but I was stopped by his bodyguard and the four of his friends. They knocked me back down and forced me to stay on the ground. "Don't struggle, Maya. You'll only get more hurt," he laughed. I stared at him complete anger and pure hatred. All of a sudden, his amused look disappeared from his expression. "Don't fucking stare at me like that," he whispered angrily and kicked me in the head. My ears rang and echoed throughout my head, my vision fading in and out. "The reason I even bothered to come here was to warn you again not to go near Kim. Did you think I wouldn't see you and her flirting at school?" "Why do you even care? You could have any girl you want, Julian! Why Kim? Do you only want her because I want her?" I said through gritted teeth. He laughed again. "Are you worried that I'll take her away just like Grace? She was the easiest bitch that'd let me fuck her. Did you really think that she would actually pick a dyke over me? Let me tell you, Maya. Grace is fine. She's doing great, actually. She's really loyal and does whatever I want her to, especially in bed." I rushed at him again and this time, I almost reached him. Almost. All the guys started to beat me more, trying to make me keep still. "She's not yours!" I yelled. "That explains why Grace chose me over you," he mocked. "Kim, she's not yours either!" He walked up to me and kneeled in front of me. "Then, is she yours?" "Julian! Security's coming!" Brian yelled out. While everyone started rush into their own cars, Julian just loomed over me with a menacing gaze. "I'll tell you this one more time," he said in a threatening voice, "Stay away from Kim. Or else something bad is gonna happen to you and her. I'll even tell mom where you are" I froze. "You wouldn't. You ran away from her too." He smirked. "Did you think that she would let me go that easy? After you left do you know how hard it was for me? She let me go because I said I would find you and bring you back and before I left, she gave me a share of her money. What she does to you doesn't matter to me. This time, I just want all of her money." "So you're spying on me." "No, not exactly, he said, "I wouldn't waste my time on you. When the time comes, I'll tell her, and then I'll take everything from her. So you just worry about staying away from Kim" "I don't care about what you do and I won't stay away from her either. You're going to pay for this Julian," I growled. "Julian!" Brian called out impatiently. He smiled. "Then I'll take that as a challenge." He kicked me across the head once more just before he drove off with all the guys. Security came running when I was beginning to fade out of consciousness. "Hey! Are you okay?" they seemed to whisper, their faces fading away behind the creeping shadows overpowering my vision until they were no more, until it was quiet. Finally, I thought, finally, it was quiet for once. The darkness seemed to give me peace in return for a portion of my life. Kim I haven't seen Maya for a few days and it was killing me. I was beginning to worry if something bad was happening to her at the moment so I went to look for Missy. She was standing by her locker talking to some friends when I walked up to her. "Hey, umm, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked cautiously. She stared at me with a confused look. "Yeah, sure." She said bye to her friends and I led her around the corner to the hallway in front of the front entrance. There weren't as much people around so it was more private. "I was wondering where Maya was. She's been absent for a while now." She smiled. "That's what you were worried about? I bet Maya would love to hear that you were looking for her." I flushed and smacked her arm. "No, don't tell her that. I was just wondering that's all." "Sure," she said sarcastically, "but I haven't seen her either but I'm guessing she should be alright though. Maybe she's just ditching" Just then, the door opened to reveal Julian and his group of friends. His friends looked like they were in a fight or something with a few bruises and cuts on their faces, but they didn't seem to mind so I assumed that they won. Julian saw me staring at his group so he smiled and came over to us. "Hey, Kim. I'm sorry that I didn't show up to pick you up that day but I was really busy. You'll forgive me right? I'll take you out this weekend to make up for it," he said smugly. "Don't bother. I'm through with you," I said harshly. He only smiled wider. "Whatever, you'll come find me sooner or later anyways." I looked over to Missy and she looked angry and was glaring at all of them. Julian seemed to notice this and approached her. "I don't like how you stare at us, bitch." "I can do whatever the fuck I want, Julian. Why don't you fucking leave right about now before I kick your asses," she said through gritted teeth. They smirked and came closer to us. "You really up for that? I don't mind beating up a girl." "Obviously not." They seemed to be getting closer to us until there was no space where we could run or fight back. "Hey!" someone yelled. We all snapped up to look at who it was and found that it was the principal. He looked at us sternly but mostly them. "Back away from those young ladies, guys. They obviously don't want your attention" Julian and his group seemed to take that as a challenge but Julian stepped up to face him. "We weren't touching them; we were just about to leave." "Then I suggest you leave now before I give you all detentions and write this in your records. You certainly don't need those gentlemen," he threatened. Julian backed away with his hands up, clearly amused. His friends did the same too until they were about to turn the hallway towards the lunch area. "I'll see you later, Kim," he said before he left and me and Missy were the only ones in the hall again. She looked furious until she got out her phone and swiftly dialed the numbers to call someone. "Maya," she said, my heart starting to race with just the sound of her name. She held up one finger to me to tell me to wait a little and I nodded while she went out the front door and talked in to the phone. Her mouth was moving very fast and I was guessing that something serious happened. I started to get worried again if anything happened to Maya because everything seemed happen so fast and serious. Missy snapped her phone shut and stood there for a moment, her eyes closed. She came back inside a second later with the same stern expression. "What happened?" I asked. "Nothing much but I'm going to have to go out for a bit alright?" she said while she turned to leave. I grabbed her arm just before she went out the front door. "What the hell? You're just going to leave me here after what happened? Take me with you." She looked at me warily and looked to be thinking of what to do. Finally, she sighed in defeat. "Okay, but you're probably not going to like what you see." I nodded and together, we walked out the front entrance and got into Missy's car. She started driving towards the direction of West Hollywood and kept on driving until we reached a fancy apartment. Missy and I walked up to the door and she pressed on the button with the room with Maya's last name on it. There was a buzz and she grabbed the door and flung it open. We rode the elevator to one of the middle floors and walked down a hall until we reached a room. "So is this where Maya lives?" I asked curiously. "Yeah, it's been a while since I've been here actually," she said nostalgically. Missy leaned forward to knock but the door opened with the slight push of her fist. We walked inside and I saw that there was nothing much inside the apartment. There was only a couch and a TV in the middle of the living room and the kitchen seemed to be completely empty of food. Missy immediately walked into a room at the end of the hall, leaving me bewildered. So many questions came up in my head but I decided that it was best to ask later. Instead, I followed where Missy went and opened the door and saw Maya. She was bruised all over with cuts and welts on her skin and bandages wrapped around her body. Her room was covered with empty water bottles thrown all over, protein bar wrappers, and a few medicine bottles. My mouth gaped open in complete shock; something clearly happened to her. Missy was sitting beside a sleeping Maya and started to check up on her temperature and her injuries. She then started to clean up the mess in her room and I decided to help her too. Together, we cleaned her apartment silently so that we wouldn't wake up Maya. Missy said that she would go to the market to buy some food for her so she left me there. It was then I noticed how lonely this place was. How could she live here? I walked up and sat next to Maya and just watched her sleeping. Her expression was so peaceful despite what she just gone through but she looked so lonely, like she was alone facing battles in her dreams too. ~To Be Continued~
