  Part Seven

     Over the next two weeks, two more sacks of mail arrived and shortly
after that, on the very anniversary of the day of Milos' exile, the
Federation paid him another visit which was to be expected.

     The four men were shown into the lounge though Doctor Slocomb wasn't
with them this time but a Professor Drusus as well as the President,
Professor Delaney, the Vice President, Professor Shaw and Professor Tye.

     It was Quirk who showed them in and gave them drinks while Milos told
his three what he proposed to do sometime while the professors were
there. The four of them went in and met with them again. After shaking
hands, Sable, Mink and Kake went and sat in different corners to Milos.

     `You will have probably guessed why we are here Milos,' Professor
Delaney began. Milos nodded. `In the interview you gave to The Oracle
magazine, you claimed that your, er, subjects are also wizards and
therefore the island of Kos should be represented within the Federation?'

     `That is correct,' Milos said, `and I assume you are here to check out
my claim?'

     `Yes,' Delaney replied.

     `I can see by your aura that you have already bound yourselves with a
charm to ward off any attempts by us to fraudulently convince you of this
fact.' It was a statement and not a question to which the four wizards
nodded that he was right.

     `Now you know what I refused to tell the reporter from The Oracle, and
that was because there are certain things that one should keep very
private. Very private indeed as no doubt you four gentlemen have secrets
that you do not want the world to know. A secret that could possibly result
in your banishment or exile like I have been.'

     Milos saw out of the corner of his eye that both Kake and Mink gave a
slight nod of the head. He now wanted to see Sable nod hers and so he
carried on speaking.

     `You might even have a secret that could result in criminal charges.'
This time he got the nod he was waiting for.

     `Well now let me demonstrate the fact that you can have no secrets
from me or my associates.' Professor Tye gave out a short laugh.

     `You do not believe me professor?' Milos asked in a mild voice.

     `Certainly not!' he replied.

     `Then let's make you the first subject. Would you kindly come and sit
next to me for I do not want the other professors to hear or see what I
will show you.' The professor got up with a smug smile on his face and
moved over and sat down next to Milos.

     `Now Sable, Mink and Kake, please write down on the paper provided
what is the most inner thought of Professor Tye that he wishes to remain a
secret.'

     The three then wrote on their papers and Milos got up and went and
collected them. He looked at all three and nodded as if he had already
known, and went back and showed them to Professor Tye. He gave out a gasp
and threw Milos a bewildered look.

     `Yes,' Milos whispered to him. `We four know that you forced your wife
to have sex with Professor Delaney to secure you your post on the
Federations Council.' Tye started to bluster but Milos stopped him from
speaking. `We will not divulge this secret of yours but I think that you
will now have second thoughts on the veracity of my claim.'

     `Most certainly Milos, if you promise,' he replied.

     `By the beard of Merlin I promise on behalf of the four of us.' Milos
dismissed him and Tye got up and went and sat back down with a bemused look
on his face.

     `Professor Drusus, would you be so kind as to sit next to me,' Milos
asked him next. This professor got up and went and sat down next to him.

     `Now write down Professor Drusus' secret,' he told the others and they
did so and he went and collected them and sat down. He showed the three
pieces of paper to him and Drusus went as white as a sheet.

     `Yes,' Milos whispered to him. `You killed your father in a fit of
rage when you were a youngster. Your mother covered up for you and it was
then arranged to have been an accident.'

     `How could they have known?' he whispered back. `That was a hundred
and sixty years ago.'

     `They are wizards Professor, and your secret stays with us, now go
back to your seat.' White faced and shaken, he went and sat back down. `Now
Professor Shaw.' They wrote down his secret and Milos collected them and
passed them to Shaw.

     `You are a practising homosexual which you did not disclose before
being elected to the Council,' Milos whispered to him.

     `My partner put you up to this,' he hissed.

     `On the contrary. We did not know exactly who would be coming here
today, but your secret is safe. I'll even tell you one. Kake too is a

     He went back to his seat visibly shaken.

     `Now Professor Delaney if you please.'

     `I will not sit in that chair. There might be a hex on it that we

where then. In here or even outside if you wish, we have nothing to hide.'
He signalled for the others to write on their paper the hidden thoughts of
Professor Delaney.

     `We'll stand over here,' he said moving away from the others.

     `As you wish,' Milos said as he collected the papers and read what
they had written. He then went to stand beside the professor and gave them
to him. He too went white in the face and his hand shook as he held them in
his hand.

     `You have committed incest with your sister on many occasions, and
still do. A very damaging thing with you being the President of the
Federation. But,' Milos began, taking the notes from his hand and adding
them to the others and placed them in a bowl and cast his hand over it and
the papers caught alight and began to burn.

     `Your secret is safe with us as will the others of your
colleagues. Now,' he turned to the other professors, `my three associates
and I will retire from the room for you to discuss as to whether I have
proved that they are indeed wizards and that my claim to represent Kos
within the Federation is with some foundation. Come you three, let us leave
them to their deliberations.' He led them out into the kitchen leaving four
bewildered men behind them.

     `Why did you tell Professor Shaw that I was a homosexual?' Kake
demanded as soon as they were inside.

     `One day you might want a favour from the Federation and who better to
ask than the Vice President. Him being the same and you knowing that, he'll
bend over backwards to help you.'

     `Don't you mean bend over forward,' Sable sniggered.

     `Maybe that way too,' Milos laughed.

     `Did you see the looks on their faces,' Mink said with glee, rubbing
her hands. `Now they will say that we are indeed wizards.'

     `I hope so,' Milos said.

     `Will you take up your seat in the Federation's Council?' Sable asked.

     `No,' he replied. `I think you'll find that if anything of importance
did crop up, it will be them coming to see me.'

     `Oh I can just hear them singing,' said Kake and broke into
song. `We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Kos.' This
broke them all up into laughter.

     `Well I think,' Milos said wiping the tears of laughter from his eyes,
`that they've had long enough to come to a decision. Let's go back into the
lounge.'

     The huddle broke up when they entered and all sat where they had
before as the President of the Federation stood up and cleared his throat
with a little cough.

     `We've discussed what you and your er, associates have demonstrated
and as the President of the Federation, am delighted to say that the
decision was unanimous in inviting you to be the representative of Kos
within the Federation and be a special adviser to the Council.' He gave a
somewhat sickly smile as he strode forward and held out his hand which
Milos shook. He also shook hands with the others and more drinks were
provided by Quirk as Sable, Mink and Kake applauded Milos.

     The four men left shortly afterwards and Milos threw himself into his
chair and gave they others a big smile as he drank to the toast proposed by
Sable.

     `It was blackmail really,' observed Kake.

     `Technically yes,' Milos agreed, `but what better way to show them

     `Can we go to bed and celebrate?' Mink asked coyly.

     `Yes please,' Sable and Kake echoed.

     `Good idea,' cried Milos, feeling on top of the world now and was now,
