When I got home, my mother was already there, so I slipped in the back door
and changed quickly back to my guy clothes and wiped my face off as I heard
her come down the stairs.

"You had company, Kyle," she said as she opened the refrigerator.  "A
student from school that said you were supposed to study with him
tonight. I think that his name was Joe."

"Joel?" I said, then adjusted my speech to sound more male. "He came by?"

"Yes, he stayed for a little while, but when you didn't come home he
left. He was very nice."

"Did you, uh...talk with him or anything?" I asked, nervously.

"A little bit, but I was on the phone part of the time. I think he left
some books for you," she answered, not acting suspicious. I wandered what
she might have said.

I was getting in over my head.

I had difficulty getting to sleep that night, and started wishing that I
could just be Kyle in California again, although I liked where I was
at. The charade was getting to hard to keep up with.

The next morning in school I was self conscious when I saw Drew, then later
Justin. I knew I would see Bryan in class too, and I wandered about Joel. I
couldn't keep up!

At lunch I sat down with Joel, as usual. We had only started talking when I
saw Danny a few tables over wink at me. Joel followed my gaze, then asked,
"Do you know that kid?"

"I think that his name is Danny," I answered. "Do you know him?"

"I used to be friends with him in junior high. We live close together and
so sometimes we'd go biking or hang out when we were growing up."

"Does he have any brothers or sisters?" I asked, not expecting the answer.

"Yeah, older brother is a senior. You know him- his name is Andrew. He goes
by Drew, now."

I almost dropped my can of Coke. Drew? Drew!!? The pieces started coming
together now. Danny was Drew's little brother, although he didn't tell me
that. Which meant that Joel....OMG- Drew was the one that Joel supposedly
gave a blow job to. No wonder Drew made all the snide comments!

I noticed Joel staring at me. "Are you ok?" he asked.

"Yeah. Just making some connections in my mind," I answered. "So, do you
know Drew- Andrew, too?"

"A little, from when I hung out with his brother, spent the night. That
kind of thing. Why?"

"Just wandering," I said.

"I went by your house last nigt," he said, "But your mom said you were
out. It was weird.. She kept calling you Kyle, not Kylie," he chuckled. "A
few times she even said, he'll be back soon.'"

"Oh. My brother is name Kyle. She gets us mixed up."
