Six weeks of basically doing nothing lay ahead, for a 13 year old boy that seemed OK. In a way he was looking forward to it but in another way he wasn't. Ian didn't have a lot of friends in fact he only really had one, Ben. This was because Ian wasn't one of the "in crowd". He wasn't really interested in sport. He wasn't well built or even very clever. In fact he didn't have much going for him in schoolboy terms except his friend Ben who was a sportsman and captain of the school football team for their year and very popular. So because for some reason Ian was Ben's friend he was tolerated by the other boys in the school. So, with only one friend who would spend much of the summer either away on holiday or out playing sport, Ian couldn't see the summer being a whole lot of fun. However, that changed when Ian's Mum asked him if he wanted to go and spend part of the holiday with his Uncle David and Aunty Sarah who lived on the south coast. Ian had been there with his parents quite a few times and loved the house with its views of the sea and the busy town it was in. The only problem was that because his parents had to work he would have to go there on his own. Ian didn't see it as a problem because he could find plenty to do there even if it was on his own. So two days later there he was with his Aunt and Uncle and all was looking good. Uncle David was a teacher and so he had the summer free as well and was going to be around all day. The first few days whizzed by with Ian often going off on his own and looking round the town or lying on the beach. Like most boys he liked to watch the girls but he knew they wouldn't be interested in him because he was pretty scrawny. Back at the house Aunty Sarah got Ian to help with the chores, doing the washing up, hanging out the washing and so on. His willingness to help caused Sarah to refer to him as "Sarah's little helper". One day, as she was getting tea ready, she said it in David's hearing and he immediately said, "are you going to get a nice apron for him?" Sarah responded by putting her hand under his chin and looking closely at him. "You know you would make a very pretty girl," she said. Ian blushed. "What do you think about that?" Sarah continued. "Don't be daft," was all Ian said. "Don't get huffy with me," Sarah replied. "I just think you look quite like a girl. Surely we can talk about it like adults. Have you ever tried girl's clothes on?" Ian tried to respond like an adult, "no of course not, I'm a boy." "Being a boy doesn't preclude wearing girl's clothes," Sarah said, "and you really should try some because they are so nice. Anyway I didn't mean to embarrass you, sorry. But any time you think you might like to try on some girl's clothes just ask because, as I said, I think you would make a very pretty girl!" With that she changed the subject and the meal was eaten as if nothing had happened. After tea Ian said he would go for a walk. He went out into the town. It was a typical seaside town and, being the height of summer, full of people. Ian wandered round and as ever looked at the girls but something either had changed in him or was changing. He began to look at what they were wearing. Many were in short skirts or shorts. There were all kinds of colours from soft pastels to bright stark reds and yellows. Ian sat for a while on a bench in the shopping centre watching people going by and wondering what it was like to be a girl. He even began to wonder what the girls were wearing under their dresses. After a while he thought to himself, "I've got to snap out of this." He decided to walk on but everywhere he went there were girls and he couldn't help noticing the clothes they were wearing. It was as if they were shouting at him. At one point he walked past some girls sitting on a bench. As he looked at them he saw right up one girl's dress and clearly saw her shiny pink panties. He had to stop this. He was a boy and until a couple of hours ago had been happy as that.... well perhaps not happy as such but...he was a boy and boys didn't wear girl's clothes and didn't want to wear girl's clothes did they? He wandered on through the shopping centre, realising it was not a great idea because there were people and there were shops with clothes in. However, it was as if he was being caught in a whirlpool and sucked deeper down. He looked in the shop windows at...girl's clothes. No he couldn't wear things like that. Then he found himself outside a lingerie shop. It all seemed so foreign, so different. He turned away determined to put it out of his mind. But that was easier said than done. Everywhere he looked there were attractive girls and women. He see a bra strap, a shapely leg wearing black tights despite the warm weather, short skirts displaying smooth legs. Some dresses were shiny and tight others soft and floaty. It was as if they were simply out to taunt him. He went and sat on the sea front looking out at the waves and tried to get his head together. Why had Sarah said that? She didn't seem to be teasing him. It was as if the idea had just occurred to her. He was a boy and he knew what boys wore. But he had to admit girl's clothes did look nice and when he had been bringing the washing in he had felt some of Sarah's clothes and they did feel nice. What was he thinking? This was nonsense. That night he went to bed one very confused boy. After breakfast the next day, Sarah asked him to put the clothes from the dirty washing basket into the machine. As he was doing it a pair of Sarah's panties fell on the floor and he had to pick them up. Why was everything conspiring against him? They were blue and were very soft nylon. Just holding them gave him a thrill that he'd never had before. He dropped them quickly into the washing machine as if they were too hot to handle, which in a way for the troubled teenager they were. When the washing was done Sarah asked "Sarah's little helper" to peg the clothes out. Ian did as he was asked but he was so painfully aware of every item he put out, and, of course, especially those belonging to Sarah. Afterwards he escaped to the beach. But there he certainly could not escape the difference between what girls wore and what boys wore. He could not understand why it was bugging him so much. However, he sat there just watching people, girls' in bikinis, in swimsuits, in shorts in short skirts, in wraps and he wondered what their clothes felt like and whether he was so sure he didn't want to try on some girl's clothing. He went for a swim and for a while the coldness of the water and the action of swimming took it out of his mind. He came out and lay on the sand and then notice a young woman come onto the beach and put her bag and mat down. She immediately took off her blouse and skirt and there she was in just her bra and panties, the bra was red and the panties were yellow. She then wrapped a towel round her and changed into a one piece bathing costume. This was getting all too much for Ian. He picked up his bag and headed into the town. Pretty soon he found himself in a large store wandering round the women's section. A skirt caught his eye and he pulled it from the rack. The pale blue looked nice and the material felt very silky and soft. For a moment he held it against his waist. Then quickly put it back. What was he doing? He walked away from the clothing section and "found himself" in the lingerie section. This was an eye opener in many ways. He had no ideas about the different colours, items of clothing and materials. He looked at the multitude of panties on the racks, there were hi-leg, boyshorts, thongs and so on. He just could not resist reaching out a feeling some of them. They did feel nice. He moved through the racks of slips and ended up in the nightwear area and yes there were pyjamas not too dissimilar to his own but the nighties, long short and very short –oh my!! He fled the shop and made his way back to Sarah's house in total confusion. He'd only been in the house a few minutes when Sarah said to him, "would Sarah's little helper bring the washing in please." He went out and unpegged the washing putting it into the basket. He was so aware of her things, of how they looked and more what they felt like. How could this be? Two days ago it wasn't like this! When he finally brought the basket inside Sarah asked him if he was OK. "Yes why not?" he asked. "Well I was watching you from the kitchen window take the washing down and you looked very flustered and you seemed to be taking quite a long time handling my clothes." There it was out in the open. What on earth was he going to say? He could simply deny everything but that wouldn't solve the issue. But how could he s ay he wanted to wear girl's clothes especially as he wasn't sure he did. But equally he wasn't sure he didn't. What should he say?
