Of Dogs And Young Men Part 16 School was a blur all day Wednesday. All I could think about was going to class with Mr. Hackenberg. Twice when I was daydreaming that cunt, the history teacher Mrs. Baker, called on me so she could bust my balls for not paying attention. It wasn't a big deal I could get straight A's in Junior High without paying attention. But she liked to try to embarrass me when she could. Most of the guys at the school thought she was a fat man-hating lesbian. But finally the final bell ended and I was able to go home. I would have to wait until tomorrow evening to put out the fliers to find out who the Dane belonged to. I went in first and walked him. After he did his business I put him back in the root cellar with some food and water. I walked back out to the kennel that housed Caesar. The lab and one of the Heinz 57s were still hanging around hoping against hope to get a piece from the bitch that was no longer here. Or maybe they were hoping I'd jerk them off. But I didn't have time to mess with them. I leashed Caesar up and lead him to the main barn. There was a room there that we used for bathing cattle. It was insulated and had a gas heater that could be turned on independently. I turned it on to warm up the room. There was a stall for adult cattle and a raised platform for bathing calves. I got the shampoo out and mixed a cup into a gallon of warm water before I called Caesar over. He jumped up on the platform and I put the grooming noose around his neck and strung him up. He was used to this. He'd had baths before and he didn't seem to mind. I let the water get warm and I soaked him down. When I had him completely wet I poured a quart of the shampoo/water mix onto his back and started working it into his coat. When it was all lathered up I reached under him. I wrapped my hand around his sheath and started to stroke it up and down his penis bone. It didn't take long for him to start to get an erection and start to hump my hand. I made sure that I didn't strip it down below his knot. His knot formed inside his sheath and soon he was shooting his load. He stood there while he spent his seed. I washed all the other parts of him like his neck, head and ears then rinsed him clean. When he was completely clean I brought the Metro Air Force Twin Turbo Super High Velocity Dryer over to him and put the concentrating nozzle onto it and blew as much of the water off of his coat as possible. Then I put him into the drying cage and turned two of the hang on dryers and set them for twenty minutes. I went up to the house and got myself a piece of the cake mom had made yesterday. That would tide me over for an hour or so until dinner. I waited for the twenty minutes that it would take to dry Caesar before I headed back out. He was all clean and dry but I used the Metro to fluff him up. I left him in the cage so he couldn't go roll in something and get himself dirty. I put a couple of blankets in it so he could be comfortable. He didn't need it for warmth. I fidgeted all the way through dinner anxious for the time to pass so I could go to class with Mr. Hackenberg. Of all the adults I'd been around he was the only one that didn't treat me like a little boy. I finished up dinner by six o'clock and me and my sister cleaned up and loaded the dish washer by six twenty. Which left me forty minutes until Mr. Hackenberg was supposed to arrive. I went up into my room and started on my homework but I couldn't concentrate on it. At a quarter till seven I finally couldn't take it any longer. I went out back and got Caesar and waited on the enclosed side porch by the driveway. It wasn't really inside the house proper so I figured Mom wouldn't yell about Caesar being in the house. It seemed like forever but at seven sharp Mr. Hackenberg's van pulled into the driveway. He got out as I came out of the porch. He opened the side door and showed me which crate to put Caesar into. We closed up the back door and went to our respective sides and got in. He smiled at me and asked, "Are you ready to go?" "I've been chomping at the bit all day!" "That's just what I wanted to hear." He said as he put the van into gear and we pulled out. We made small talk all the way over to the class. He seemed to have a greater interest in how I was doing in my classes than my parents did. He asked if I played sports and I told him how I was hoping to make the Junior High basket ball team next season. He asked me about our farm and just about anything that was going on in my life and he seemed genuinely interested in the response. We got to the fairgrounds where the classes were being held. We were fifteen minutes early when we got there. It was just about the same time that the instructor pulled up and unlocked the door. We walked Caesar to an oak tree and let him water it. Then we headed in. "So is this your new "Apprentice" Jeremy?" The instructor asked. "I'd say it's a bit early to call him that." Mr. Hackenberg said with a laugh. Then he walked me over to him and introduced us. "Lee this is Terrance. Terrance this is Mr. Henry." "Pleased to meet you Terrance." "Thank you Sir." I told him a little shyly. "Terrance here is the son of Mr. Evans, the owner of the Skyline Dairy." Mr Hackenberg informed him. "I know Karl well, he's a member of the Elks club like I am." "I sold his Caesar here a year ago and now I think he's turned out well enough to show. I'd appreciate any help that you can give him. I'm not working a dog today so I will be going over the basics with him while you are going through the class." Mr. Hackenberg told him then he turned to me. "The way classes work are we pretend that we are in the ring and the instructor is the judge. In many ways its more of a practice ring rather than a class. But I'll walk you through everything. Especially since showing a German Shepherd is much different than showing any other breed of dog. We stack them differently so don't try to copy the others when we "stack" or pose the dog." Mr. Hackenberg said to me. "Give me Caesar's lead." He said. I handed it to him and he demonstrated how to stack the dog. He showed me how you set the dogs front legs by turning the head in the opposite direction of the front leg you are working on. Then he showed me how one hind leg was set up stretched back and one set up underneath the dog. All other breeds are shown set up with both legs stretched back. He showed me how to grip the collar and how to use "bait" to get the dogs attention. Bait was liver boiled in garlic salt and allowed to air dry. He also showed me how to gait the dog. Soon others showed up and the class started. I figured I would go to the back of the line. But Mr. Henry said "Put the Shepherd at the front of the line. It's going to be the fastest mover. We line up according to speed. Otherwise the faster dogs won't be able to move at their optimal speed." He had us run around the ring then he had me stack Caesar. He examined him then had me do a triangle pattern as he called it. I moved Caesar away from him along the side of the ring, then along the back before turning on the diagonal toward him. As I came up to him he said, "Bait him." I got out the bait and held it in front of him. It wasn't very effective since I didn't know that I was doing and he kept jumping at the bait instead of posing. "That's something you can practice at home. I'm sure Jeremy can teach you how to do it when you get to the end of the line. Okay take him to the end of the line." He said circling his finger in the air to let me know to do a lap around the ring. I got to the end of the line and Mr. Hackenberg was waiting for me there. "Not bad for your first time. Now go ahead and stack him again." I stacked him again and knelt beside him like I'd been taught. Mr. Hackenberg got behind me and put his hands on my wrists to position me better. He was leaning against me lightly. I'm sure it was my imagination or wishful thinking but it felt like I could feel his erection on my lower back. But then it was gone quickly. He then showed me how to free-bait the dog for when we came back to the judge. We had a fair amount of time to work since there were about 20 dogs in the class. I was doing much better by the time I got back to the front of the line for my second turn. I even managed to get Caesar to pose when I "free-baited" him, although nowhere near as well as he posed for Mr. Hackenberg. I got about four turns before the hour of class was over. We loaded Caesar up in the van and headed home. When we were on the way home Mr. Hackenberg asked. "Where does Caesar stay?" "He just runs free on the farm when we don't have a bitch in season." I replied. "Does he stay in your room at night?" He asked. I laughed. "Mom would have a conniption fit if there was an animal in the house." "Maybe I'll try to have a talk with her. It would help you bond with him more for showing if he could be with you more." He said. "Maybe I can convince her that you might win a college scholarship in Junior Showmanship if you do well enough. The AKC offers them to the top Junior Handlers." "Does that mean I would have to study Dog Showing in college." I asked a bit confused. He chuckled, "No you can study anything you want. It's just a reward for all the time and effort you'll have to put in to win the scholarship." He reached over and tousled my head. We talked a while about the Junior Showmanship program and about dog shows in general. He told me about how there were dog shows every weekend somewhere in the country. He had dogs out with handlers in several areas of the country. He could use it as a write-off on his taxes. He also told me how he went to shows himself pretty much every weekend. "If they are a reasonable distance I drive the motorhome. That way I can bring a whole string of client dogs. I don't need the money from showing other peoples dogs but I love the competition. If there are shows that are too far away that I want to take my special to I take my Lear Jet." "Wow! You have a Lear Jet?" I asked in awe. "Yeah. I lease it out during the week to a couple of corporations so it defrays some of the cost. But I have first call on it when I want to go to shows." "What do you do for a living?" I asked. "I'm retired now and just manage my own investments. I was the manager of a very successful hedge fund and I did a fair share of commodity trading. I managed to put away almost half a billion by the time I was forty and I retired. I've moved most of my money to very conservative investments, but even with conservative investments I can live very comfortably without touching the principle." I didn't know what to say. I knew he was rich but I had no idea that he was that rich. You have to understand that in 1982 half a billion dollars was worth quite a bit more than it is now. Hell it's still a shitload of money today. I was amazed that this rich and powerful man was not just willing but eager to spend time with me. "I'm going to enter Caesar in the weekend shows of the Louisville Cluster shows. You won't be able to go to the weekday shows until you're on summer vacation. If you decide that you like showing maybe we can get you excused from school for some of the Specialty Shows that are held on Fridays. My last apprentice was able to do that." "You want me to be your apprentice?" I asked. "It's too early to tell if you are even going to like showing. But I could see that happening if you take enough interest in it. I don't pay my apprentices but I do put money in a trust fund for them to pay for college after they are done being my apprentice. Kevin was able to use it to get started in his own business after college because he got a full scholarship from the AKC. He got an MBA from University of Wisconsin at Madison. I want you to know that it's a lot of fun but also a lot of work. You'll have to take care of the string of dogs we're carrying, learn how to groom dogs for the ring and cover dogs for me when I have conflicts. But I can open doors for you in this game that nobody else can." I thought about it and realized that I wanted to give it a shot. We arrived at my house shortly after that and I let Caesar out. "I want you to practice for at least a half hour every day. I'll go ahead and fax in the entries for Caesar for the Louisville shows. So I want you to be ready. We'll wait until summer to start you in Junior Showmanship." "Thank you Mr. Hackenberg." I said. "The best way to thank me is to work hard on learning how to show Caesar." He said before he got back in the van and drove away.
