The following text is an account of a fictional academic research project set in the near future. It describes the schools on Isla Espiritu Santo, off southern California, and how a policy that required adolescent males to be nude both in school and out was implemented, from the very beginning to the current moment of writing (late 2027).

As such, it is a parody of an academic project. This series begins with a historical essay, and then moves to testimonies from boys, girls, teachers, parents, and members of the community. It will include a representative photographic collection with the full consent and awareness of those who are shown. Tags include: young, old, intergenerational, bi, gay, cfnm, cmnm, and gay incest. Although it depicts mandated behavior in some instances, there is no domination (Dom) in the usual sense of the term. ERIK

Introduction: Erik (b. 1981) is a father, and is a research scientist at the University genetics laboratory. He is father of Erik, Jr. (EJ) (b. 2012) and Fredrik or Freddy (b. 2015). Erik was born and raised in Denmark, in a well-off island 50km from Copenhagen, and married Thérèse (Terry) when they were both studying in Edinburgh. She is also Danish, and teaches developmentally disable children in the public elementary schools. Both Erik and Terry were raised in the FKK movement in Denmark, and went nude often as children and adolescents, and vacation at a clothing-optional resort in Northern California every summer, with access to a clothing-optional ocean beach. In late 2027 EJ is 15 (10^th grade) and Freddy is 12 (7^th grade), both at the Academy, so puberty and adolescent issues have been prominent in the house.

Erik was a community voice both among Academy parents and in the town in favor of the new policy in 2022, and encouraged his boys to chose to live nude when they were in the 5^th and 2^nd grades, even though this was not usually a possibility until the 3^rd grade. For the boys, the transition was very natural, since they have always been nude in the home, and Erik goes nude as he feels appropriate; Terry does as well but less often.

Erik and Terry have agreed to the publication of these conversations and the use of their own and their boys' real names; the conversations have been edited for length and clarity.

When did you first hear about the possible new policy in 2022?

The headmaster called me in the Fall of 2021 for a conversation about the problems with sexting and the infamous "secret party" on the beach in August 2021 the resulted in so many fake videos. When he showed me several of these, I was shocked--I had no idea. EJ was in 3^rd grade and Freddy in kindergarten that year, so of course they were far too young to have heard anything about this. Lucas is a Dane originally, as are Terry and I, and we share a personal background in the FKK movement in our youth. My experience of FKK was broader, however, since my family traveled to several locations in Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. We lived on a sort of enclave island a ways south of Copenhagen and many children and adolescents were nude every day in the summer and other warm times everywhere in the town and the beach. Terry had a similar experience, since her family would spend all summer at a naturist community in the south of Sweden. So the headmaster was most interested in asking me whether I thought daily nudist could improve boys' behavior, and I said, yes--definitely.

Were you allowing your boys to be nude in your house?

Yes, definitely, why not? It is natural for them--for boys, especially. They always seemed to prefer it, and other boys would remove their clothes when they came over to see them. In the pandemic, no one came over for a long time, of course. Even from an early age, each boy enjoyed playing with his penis, and we allowed it or even encouraged it when appropriate. Each boy also had to be taught not to do that outside the house, unless we were at the naturist places we like to go for vacation here.

What did you think would be the main problems with beginning a policy that required boys 6^th grade and older to be nude at the Academy?

Well, first of all, America is still so frozen and if I may say regressive about the body. Child sexuality is an especially difficult topic here, usually discussed only in the context of behavior that has been made illegal. So I anticipated that many parents would be completely opposed to it. In addition, many parents might also think that such nudity would victimize the girls, who would see penises all day. Then of course resistance from the boys, none of whom will have had previous experience with living nude.

The amazing thing is that none of this resistance really occurred. There were a few very doubtful parents, of course, but when they saw the sexting and fake videos, and the headmaster spoke about altering the social balance between boys and girls, most parents saw the benefits of their sons living nude immediately. Parents of daughters were not so opposed as I might have thought, because of course their girls had been seeing boys nude often on the beach, with or without parents' permission for either girls or boys. Our climate here is particularly favorable, and most parents here are very progressive politically though not about nudity or child sexuality. I cannot really explain why the idea became feasible so quickly--perhaps somehow people were simply ready to try something better.

What was your role in implementing the change of policy?

I can speak for Terry here also: we did several things. We spoke with parents' groups as this was being discussed and told them frankly about our experiences with FKK in Denmark as children and adolescents. They were fascinated and friendly and we had some fun with it, with our clothes on! Terry in particular could speak with parents of girls about how girls feel about male nudity, and how they might get used to it, and how the girls could cope with boys' erections when they will happen.

I spoke with several groups of people in the town about the proposed change, and how it would impact everyone on the island. Everyone would need to get used to seeing nude boys. Remember that in 2022 all the boys at the public high school were still clothed, and the Academy boys are always a minority, so that year for every nude boy there were three clothed boys. I spoke with parents of swimmers, runners, and others about nude boys practicing and competing with clothed boys. I also spoke several times with the pediatrician about male adolescent sexuality and boys' sexual development and what kinds of behavior parents might expect from nude boys, including erections, masturbation, same-sex, and other activity, as well as how the girls might be prepared for this change.

Were you present when the headmaster told the boys and girls about the coming change in 2022?

Yes, I was also part of the Academy honors committee, so we were all present at this honors ceremony. I was prepared--we all were--for the confusion and shock afterwards. I knew that parents of boys in those grades would have a very challenging time. We helped them to prepare for the change by, for example, removing a boy's clothing from his room that morning while he was at school, for offering him support and encouragement in those days, and for encouraging him to meet his friends including girls in public places so that they could all get used to each other with their new status. I was very surprised by the number of nude boys I saw in town even the next day, and especially after that first week. Since I walk or bicycle to the ferry each morning, I see and recognize many people here, and they all accepted nude boys and the nude cross country team, for example, without complaint, and even with encouragement for their bravery and beauty.

Did this change encourage you to resume going nude in your home?

Yes, I began that with the boys that summer. They saw nude boys in town, of course, during summer camp--thank heavens, summer camp was back after several years!--and some of the nude boys were even their counsellors. So EJ and Freddy decided on their own to go nude to camp, and were accepted immediately. I began to live nude at home more, and outside our home, but I continued to be clothed elsewhere on the island except at the beach. Terry was a little slower to resume nudity but since we were naturists every summer, she became more used to it in our house.

What questions did your boys have, or what was their attitude?

They were very curious. They enjoyed physical contact with their male counsellors: wrestling, playing in the pool, even just hugging them. Young boys are very curious about older boys' bodies, especially about their erections and even ejaculation, should they ever see that. I expected some same-sex activity and of course that happened. But I was also struck by how utterly natural this was for our boys, like turning on a switch: one day nude. When they each wanted to return to Academy classes nude in August, we encourage and allowed them. EJ was one of several nude boys in the 5^th grade, and more boys chose to live nude during that year. Freddy was at first the only nude boy in his 2^nd grade class, but all the children treated him very nicely, and he became their mascot, almost.

They are now in 10^th and 7^th grades, in late 2027. How have things changed for them, regarding their nudity?

Well, we have been through puberty, of course, and still are in puberty with Freddy. Like many Scandinavian boys, they each grew quite tall for their ages, but their voices, penises, and hair remained quite undeveloped, and in Freddy's case he is still entirely hairless although his penis has grown in the past several months and he has begun to experience very frequent erections. I do not believe he can ejaculate yet--I didn't check this morning!--but he soon will, I believe. EJ did not ejaculate until he was nearly 14, very late, and his voice changed late as well. Each of them began to have a lot of sexual desires and activity with other boys at about 9 or 10 years old, and I know that EJ and an Indian boy named Asher have been very intimate. I expected this, of course, and have no idea how it might influence EJ's evolving sexual identity. One of the real benefits of nudity is that the boys do not have to choose one path or the other, but can try both and see what they like.

How did things change for the Academy boys when the public middle and high school began to require male nudity?

They were so proud: we did it first, now they're copying us. Of course that was with a much larger group of boys, and now all male adolescents and teens ages 11-18 on the island were nude, except a very few development-disabled boys, and one or two who go to school off-island and may feel rather singled out, I suspect, because they are clothed. This policy did bring much more media attention and some of that was negative, and did involve more problems with athletic competitions and other activities off-island, and a fair settlement usually was negotiated except in cases where no negotiation was possible, in which case the boys all went in the school uniform of short shorts and crop top t-shirts, with sandals. The ferry company is still quite uncooperative, but I believe they face some kind of governmental regulations regarding public transit and have little choice. They do allow boys to remove their clothes just before they leave the ferry at the island dock.

What was the media attention?

Well, surprisingly several media sites were very supportive, not just NPR of course, but others. Predictably, right-wing media was scandalized and there were usually denunciations from fundamentalists and Catholic clergy, but since the pandemic and child abuse scandals they have become irrelevant and inconsequential to everyone except their followers. We were at the front line of a change sweeping America, not everywhere equally, of course, but in many places where male nudity seems practical and desirable. This has also at long last fostered re-appraisal of sexual relationships between older and younger men, consensual of course, but the reality of adolescent sexuality and desire is unmistakable and there is growing pressure for decriminalization of very innocent and loving activities, accompanied by increased vigilance about the abuses of child trafficking and enslavement. Those are real problems, not the fake problems of a man and a boy down the lane.

After a wave of journalists and writers on the island during the day--there was no place for them to stay at night--no one pays us attention any more, and that is as it should be. We are remote community, rather special in some ways, and what happens here can't happen everywhere, I understand. We have modeled a possibility, however, and that alone has changed peoples' minds.
