The sex isn't a major part of it, nor is it graphic. If you're looking for masturbation fodder, look elsewhere. There will be many slow times in this story, just like there are in life. Other times, things will fly at you too fast. There will be boring days, and exciting days. It's just how it's flowing.

*********************************************************************************************

Thursday morning found me in bed between my newest vampire son and his human brother. Eric's future mate, Jennifer, had joined us for his draining and had encouraged him to feed. Once he started feeding, she left us to bond with our new son. He had fed from all four of us, until just after 4am, then we all fell into a peaceful sleep. When I woke, I found Derrick looking over me at his brother with love in his eyes. He looked at me and gave me a chaste kiss, then headed out to join his brothers at breakfast. A few minutes later, Eric woke and looked at me with a smile.

"This is going to sound stupid but, I don't feel any different. Should I?"

I smiled at him. "Nope, that comes later when you find your beast. I'd say you're in for a shock, but Morgan gave away the secret."

"Yeah, well, I'm still in shock. I don't know if I believe what he's seen."

"We'll find out soon enough. I want to take you hunting this morning. Let's go eat and get the pups to school, then you'll see how accurate Morgan is." I said, as I got out of bed.

Eric got up and reached for his clothes. When he saw that I was heading out naked, he shrugged and followed. We found everyone in the kitchen finishing breakfast and gathering their things for school. Jesse and Jamie were excited and couldn't wait to tell me that Pop was going to take them to school and introduce them to Dr. Phillips so they could take their tests. I told them to have fun and gave Scott a kiss before he took them by the hands and led them out the door.

I poured Eric four cups of blood, remembering to use different cups so I knew which was which, and after a taste test, found that he took after me. I told Billy we were going hunting and asked him to handle things until we returned. Knowing what I did, I told him we'd be back before lunch, then I led Eric out the door and we walked to hunting rock. As we sat on the rock, I asked him what he knew about a first hunt.

"No one's gone into detail about it, but I know that I'm here to let my beast out and learn to control him. David told me that sometimes the beast will just come out, and other times he needs to be brought out with adrenaline."

"Did he say how we trigger that hormone rush?"

"Jennifer's dad said fear or pain..." Then he blushed.

"Those, or sex. Is your beast saying anything to you at all yet?" I asked.

"Derrick told me about the sex part." Eric laughed "And no, I'm not hearing or feeling anything at all yet."

"Has Jennifer shown you her beast? Or did her dad?"

"No, they said they didn't want to scare me."

I quickly shifted into Alpha form as he said this. He was startled, but not scared, and sat there looking at me in awe.

"Well, I can see how that might scare some. Will I look like that?"

I shifted back and smiled "That's my Alpha form. Not everyone is as big, so we'll have to see. Would you like to try pain?"

Eric blushed again "Um, I hate pain. I feel terrible saying this but, um... sex might work?"

I laughed "You are my son, no doubt. All of your brothers want sex for their change. So, hand, mouth, or something more involved?"

He looked slightly surprised at my casual acceptance of his request, then smirked "Well, I'm mostly straight, but only a fool would say no to a good blow job."

I laughed louder this time, but I dropped to my knees and took him into my mouth. He leaned back against the rock and was quickly moaning from my attention. When he finally filled my mouth, I heard him growl, I swallowed and then the growl became a snarl. I looked up to see him looking down at me through the glowing red eyes of an Alpha.

I stood and shifted to my King beast form and his snarls went silent as his eyes went to the ground in submission. I took his chin in my claw and forced his eyes to meet mine and nodded as I growled. I shifted back and held his gaze.

"You might be an Alpha, but I'm still your Alpha, are we clear?"

He gently growled and nodded.

"Now, concentrate on shifting back. Picture yourself as human, and shift."

I saw him concentrating and, in a few seconds, he was back, standing before me in his human form as he said "So Morgan was right?"

"Well, he was right about the Alpha part. We'll have to discuss the rest later, for now, let's get you ready to be an Alpha."

I spent the next few hours teaching him how to combine his beast with his humanity. How to use his improved senses in human form, and how to keep in touch with his human side while in full beast form. Like a typical Alpha, he took to everything quickly, and just before lunchtime, he was standing in the woods, offering me the doe he had stalked. We were low on white tail, so I took it from him and quickly broke her neck, painlessly ending her life so we could take her home to feed my family.

After hanging the doe in the game locker and letting Amie know it was there, Eric and I went to my office where we found Billy, Josh, George and Jennifer waiting. I saw the conflict in Eric's eyes when Josh failed to lower his gaze. His beast was telling him this non-Alpha should show respect yet his heart was telling him this was his new brother. I sent Josh a message through our bond and he shifted his eyes and stared at Eric. When he saw the eyes, his beast instinctively understood and calmed.

When I laughed, he looked at me, confused. "What is he?" he asked.

"He's my heir. You have a lot you still need to learn, and I want you to spend the afternoon with Frederick. After dinner, I'll tell you all about me, and Josh, and several other things you'll need to know before you move. For now, I'd like to hear your plans for your mate bond. Has that been explained?"

Jennifer spoke up "I explained that after I told him about the change, Sir. We were going to go to my dad's beach house in Malibu and do it on the beach, but now, well, now that's not practical, is it?"

"First off, I won't have my son's mate calling me Sir. My name is Greg, please call me that?" I said with a smile. "And no, it's not practical, from what Morgan has said, but we can work around it, if your heart is set on it. Family comes first, even for an Alpha."

Eric looked at Jennifer, then said to me "I think we should just do the mate bond here, tonight. I don't want to start off not mated." Then he looked at his mate "We can find time to go to the beach later and call it a honeymoon. I'm sorry baby, but I'm an Alpha and I need to put my pack first."

She smiled and nodded as she said "I know, love. I'm to be an Alpha mate, so I'll adjust and learn, and do what I need to do."

I smiled as George said "I agree with Morgan, Greg. He's the man for it. When?"

"Billy and I will fly back up after we eat. We'll meet with Trent and anyone he thinks we should talk with. I'll bring Trent back with me so he can meet Eric here. I think I'll keep Eric here over the weekend so he can be with Derrick for his change. He can go to Bangor Monday morning and take over. I'll know this evening if we'll have any problems with it. From meeting Trent, I think it will be fine."

"I think we should sell the house, Greg. I think a different house will set the tone that things are changing. What do you think Eric?"

"I agree Papa. From what you told me, that house is too big for us anyway. We need to heal that pack, and we need a family friendly home. Something big enough for a nice pack party, but nothing that puts people off. No offense Dad, but nothing like this place, that's for sure."

I laughed "This house is intended to project power. You're right about having something more inviting, at least for the first 50 years or so, until everyone's accepted you. After that you can adjust as you figure out the pack. Do you trust Todd to just get you something? Or do you want to look at them?"

"Jennifer can go look at things and decide. I trust her to know what I want. Who's Frederick and what is he going to teach me?"

There was a knock and I told Frederick to come in. "Eric, this is Frederick. Frederick, this is my son Eric. He's to be the new Alpha of the pack in Maine. He's obviously a changeling, so I need you to test him, and educate him. You have the afternoon. If you need more time, you'll have to find time over the weekend, or travel to Maine as time allows."

"Of course Sire." Then he glanced at Jennifer "Am I free to talk?"

I nodded "She's his mate, she'll know of this soon enough."

Eric was looking confused so Jennifer spoke up "You're a changeling honey, it's possible you have magic. Frederick is going to teach you to use it, if you have it."

"Magic!?" Eric almost shouted.

"Yes magic." I said, as I lit the fireplace with a wave of my hand. "Some of us have more, some have none. Your Beta, if he keeps that role, is a changeling too. He's aware, and has some power of his own. I'm hoping you're his equal, at least. It might help with the power dynamic if you are."

Eric just looked at me in awe, then turned to Jennifer with a questioning look. "You knew to expect this? And didn't tell me?"

She looked down as she said "It's even more of a secret than our existence. Humans don't know we're real, and among vampires, magic isn't talked about openly. Everyone knows it exists, but it's not safe to talk about it."

I needed to get to Maine so I spoke up "You'll learn all about why it's not safe later. For now, go with Frederick and keep an open mind. Jennifer, I'll have Regent get a car to take you to the office to meet with Todd."

Billy spoke up "She and Todd are going with us. Todd wants to talk with us about what he's found in Maine. We should go eat and get moving, we have a long afternoon ahead of us."

After lunch, Ted took Billy, Todd, Jennifer and I to Butler in the Bell, then we got in the Phenom. Once we were in the air, headed to Bangor, Todd showed us the home of the previous Alpha in Islesboro, Maine. It was a large shingle style home built in 1904 that had 20 bedrooms and sat on 48 acres, with oceanfront and a dock. I could see that Jennifer loved the home and was disappointed that we were looking for something else. I asked her for her thoughts.

"Well, it's just Eric and me, for now, so we don't need anything this big, but it's perfect for entertaining the pack. We'd have room to host Deltas from all over the state, rather than them having to stay in hotels. I know you said we should get a different house, to show how things are changing, but it's an ideal home for an Alpha."

Todd spoke up "As you say, it is an ideal home for an Alpha. One that wants to rule and not interact with his pack. The home is on an island, served by a ferry that runs every hour, from 8am to 5 pm. That limits personal interaction with the pack, especially in the evenings and nights, when problems arise."

Jennifer shook her head "Yes, you're right, that won't do. What do you suggest?"

Todd opened another page on his browser and said "I think we need to focus on land rather than the home. We can build what you want, but you'll want land to have privacy and be able to take pack members hunting when they visit. I've found two that I like, one has a home with two other houses and 850 acres, while the other is 1100 acres of raw land much closer to downtown Bangor. The first is 20 miles from an airport, and 20 miles from a private airstrip I'm sure we could get use of. The other is 5 miles from a small airport."

Jennifer's eyes lit up when she saw the timber frame log home on the 74 acre glacial pond. "It's amazing Greg. It's exactly what Eric would love!"

"And what about you?" I asked. "You grew up in the city. Can you be happy that far from everything?"

"I'll be happy wherever Eric is, and we'll have a life of our own. I'll have a whole pack of friends around us and Derrick and his mates can come and visit anytime they want. The only change I see in the near future is an indoor pool. Eric loves to swim and I'm guessing that pond freezes over in the winter."

I turned to Todd and said "Buy it, cash offer, immediate occupancy. I want them able to move in on Monday." Then I turned back to Jennifer "Do you want to go see it while we're here?"

"I'm sure it's fine Greg. Unless you think otherwise, I think I should meet some of the pack."

"I think that's a great idea. And, I'm not pushing, but that home will be even better with a pup or two next spring." I said with a grin.

Todd made the phone calls and made arrangements to meet with the agents and owner. It's amazing how fast you can buy a house when you're paying cash. Eric and Jennifer could move in on Monday, and the old owner was leaving all the furniture in place, as most of it was custom built for the house. I had called Beta Osborne before we left the house, so Todd had a hired car and would handle the paperwork while Billy, Jennifer and I met with Trent and the Deltas he had gathered at the former Alpha's house.

As he had last night, Beta Osborne met us at the Bangor FBO. He kept his eyes lowered as he shook my hand and said "I appreciate your mercy on me last night Alpha. I hope I can earn it."

"Your heart earned it Trent, I have faith in you. You already met Billy, and this young lady is Jennifer, soon to be Jennifer Warnick, your Alpha-Mate."

Trent bowed his head to Jennifer and said "Nice to meet you Ma'am."

Jennifer smiled and reached for his hand saying "I don't know how things were here before Trent, but I'm not Ma'am, I'm Jennifer. I look forward to helping my mate move this pack forward into good times. Are you the man to help him?"

Trent looked up at her in surprise, then smiled "I think the good times started today Jennifer, and if your mate is anything like you, I look forward to many years of serving at his side, if he'll have me."

"My father-in-law says you have an honest heart, so if he trusts you, I'm sure Eric will." Jennifer said as she opened her arms to offer him a hug.

Trent seemed shocked, but smiled as he gave Jennifer a warm, friendly hug. "If you'll forgive me, we should hurry. I'd like to make the 2:00 ferry." He said, as he led us to his SUV. When we were seated and driving, he continued "I asked all the Deltas to meet us at the house, then we can have dinner in town later. I wanted Alpha Warnick to see the house, but you being with him allows you to see your new home."

"Oh, we're selling that house Trent. Eric and I feel the ferry and time constraints on access make it a poor choice for an Alpha that needs to be available to his pack 24/7. We've purchased a home with 850 acres and want the pack to feel welcome anytime they need us. It's about an hour east of downtown Bangor. I think the name of the town is Franklin, do you know it?"

Trent almost lost control of the SUV as he looked at Jennifer in shock "My wife and I live in Franklin. I only know of one place with that much land that's for sale in the area. I'm sure you'll love the house."

I sat back and watched as Jennifer talked with Trent. She was open and very personable, and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know him. He was much more relaxed than our ride with him last night. We learned that he was changed by the previous Alpha shortly before WWII and had recently refreshed his life. He and his wife Susan had a female infant at home, and a grown son that lived in far northern Maine.

The drive seemed to fly by, as we were all enjoying the conversation, and we were soon driving off the ferry, past the Grindle Point Lighthouse, and through the small community of Islesboro, ME. 10 minutes later we pulled up to the house. Jennifer was right, this house would be perfect for an Alpha to host his pack, if not for the poor location. We got out and Trent led us inside to meet the Deltas of the Maine pack.

While Trent's wife Susan showed Jennifer around the house, Trent introduced me to the 18 Deltas waiting inside. To a man, they all expressed their sincere appreciation for being released from serving under the previous Alpha. I made clear to them how, and more importantly why, it was done. I asked them to give Eric time to grow into his role as their Alpha, and shared my thoughts on what it meant to serve as an Alpha, Beta, or Delta. I was just talking about our school when Trent and Jennifer came back in.

Trent introduced Jennifer as their new Alpha-mate and as a group they bowed their heads, greeting her with a group "Good afternoon Ma'am."

She smiled, and said "Please gentlemen, I'm Jennifer, and my eyes are up here." When the men laughed a bit, she went on "My mate, Eric, is not the previous Alpha of this pack. You'll notice I never use his name, and I'll ask you to do the same. I am not the old Alpha-mate either. We're here to help you help our pack, not to rule over you. It will take time for us to get used to each other, and I want you to know, and let all your members know, that our home is open to you at any time. Come visit for dinner, bring your pups to play, or bring your problems so we can try to help you solve them. That's the pack we want, a pack that is family, from top to bottom."

Trent smiled and said "Are you sure I have a job? It sounds like you'd be a pretty good Beta, Jennifer."

Jennifer laughed and said "Being mates means being partners. If my husband is busy, I'm available to help how I can, so in a way, yes, I'm his Beta. But this pack already has an honorable Beta, and I don't see Eric changing that. I've said enough, and I understand we need to get moving to catch the last ferry of the day. Trent has dinner reservations for all of us, so let's go enjoy our first dinner together so I can get to know you all. I only wish your mates were with you so I could meet them."
