Chapter 94

Once again, Andrew and the staff did a wonderful job of providing my family and our guests an amazing meal. Niko and Alexia sat with her parents and chatted while our pups played or chatted with their human cousins. Joshua pulled Billy and I aside so we could have a private conversation.

After glancing over my shoulder, Joshua looked at me and said "You need to have a talk with Niko; he's causing problems for Lucas."

I was shocked. This didn't seem like Niko at all. When Josh explained, I stood and turned around. I put everything into my voice, causing the windows to rattle as I shouted "Nikolaos Megalos Warnick, get your butt over here right now!"

The patio went silent, and a terrified Alexia followed Niko as he slowly rolled to face me. He stopped a few feet from me and softly asked "Yes Father?"

"I'm told that you are refusing to purchase the things you need, is this true?"

He looked slightly relieved and said "Oh, no Father. Lucas wants me to buy two or three chairs and several lifts and I don't need all of that stuff. I'm fine with the chair I have."

I turned to Joshua and asked "Correct me if I state something wrong. The tracked chair would cost $22,000 and the wheeled one he liked best, the Jazzy, would be $4000?"

"Yes, Sire. Lucas and I looked at them and the tracked one would allow Niko to navigate the island on his own. The electric wheeled chair isn't suitable for the rough terrain or the sand on the beaches. It is suitable for travel inside the castle, or the paved roads. We suggested he get both, but as you see, he refuses."

I turned back to face Niko and asked "Why don't you want them to get both?"

He studied his feet for a few moments, then said "You've done so much already, just by making me part of your family. I didn't want to be a burden or anything."

As he was saying this, I was slowly nodding my head, understanding his viewpoint. I knelt and looked in his eyes as I said "The moment you became my son, anything you need became something I need. As my son, and as my assistant, you need to be able to get around the castle. I don't want you wearing yourself out traveling around the castle. If I choose to walk to the beach, you need to be able to join me."

I turned to Joshua and said "Take your rebellious brother and find Lucas. Order a track chair, and five of these Jazzy chairs. One for the castle, one for London, and one for travel. We'll figure out where to put the other two later."

Niko gasped and said "No, Dad! That's too much. I surrender on the track chair, but I don't need five of the other. One is fine."

I gave him my most stern look and said "And when we remodel, you'll allow Leonard to put a lift for your tub? And lifts at our pools and hot tubs? Ramps at all our properties?"

He got a devilish grin and said "All the properties should have ramps anyway, and lifts will benefit any guests who might be in a chair, so yeah, all that stuff's fine."

Billy looked at me and said "I'll get with Ted, Leonard, and Tommy so they can make accommodations. We'll need vans with lifts, and lifts for the aircraft."

Niko looked thoughtful, then said "Well, considering all those expenses... It might cost less to have a chair at certain houses."

Alex had come over and was following the conversation. He turned to me and said "And I will get one for Huis ten Bosch, for when he visits Alexia."

I thought for a moment, then said "I don't think that would be wise yet, Alex."

Alexi started to protest, but Niko cut her off with "He's right, Lexi. I'll be aging quickly, and your palace is too public for me, at least for now. I'm sure I can come visit in a few years, and until then, you can visit me whenever we can work it out."

I smiled and put my hand on his shoulder as I said "That is exactly what I was thinking, Niko. I have no problem with the two of you spending time together, but until we're ready to go public, I think it best we keep you out of the spotlight."

Alexi turned to me and said "I'm sorry Cousin Greg, I didn't consider that."

I grinned at her and said "If you're going to date my son, many things in your world are going to change. Are you sure you're up to the challenge?"

Her face lit up as she looked at Niko and said "For him? Anything."

Alex looked at Max, and when she nodded, he said "I think my work is done here for today, Greg. Can we impose on you for a lift back to our house in Kranidi?"

I was turning to talk to Billy as I heard him on his phone asking Ted, Tommy, Leonard, and Andrew to join us. I just laughed. Andrew approached us and gave a slight bow, asking what we needed.

I turned to Billy and waved for him to speak, so he said "The family will be traveling, beginning next week. We will be gone for several months. While we are gone, the castle will be remodeled. We're going to London, then we'll be hitting several stops around the world. After that, we'll be in Woodstock until the castle is finished. We would like you and your family to accompany us to London, then take a vacation until you either rejoin us in Woodstock, or return here when things are completed."

Andrew nodded and said "Of course, Your Highness. Do you need to know our destination?"

I said "You and Ted can work it out." I turned to Billy, saying "Why am I going around the world?"

"You're going to tell the council to delay the coronation until we sort things out, and you're going to travel, talking to vampires, to find out what they want from a King." I waved for him to continue, so he did "You're going to tell Leonard to do whatever he thinks we want with the castle, giving him a short list of specific requirements."

"Are you managing me again? Or are you predicting what I want?"

Billy just grinned and winked at me, then he turned to Ted who had just joined us "King Willem-Alexander and his Queen need a lift to Kranidi. Next week, the King will begin an around the world trip. I will get you the details this evening, but we will start in London."

Ted bowed, and said "Of course, Your Highness."

I spoke up, saying "Ted, on a personal note, I'd like to talk to you, Troy, and Victor during the flight. I've recently learned a lot more about changing humans, and I want the two of you aware of the risks."

Ted nodded and said "I'll have Mickey take Their Majesties to Kranidi while Troy, Victor and I make plans for London."

Tommy looked at Billy and said "Am I to assume I need to make arrangements for this trip as well, Your Highness?"

Billy nodded and said "Correct. We need to arrange for Prince Niko's special needs, as well as doing our best to avoid attention. If that means we have to split up the pups, so be it."

I turned to Leonard and said "Work with Niko and find a time that you, me, and my mates can video conference with Johnny. Hopefully, he can work on the castle while rebuilding Derrick's place at the same time." I turned to Joshua "That reminds me, we need to move things from the room."

Joshua froze for a second, then said "As I understand it, things are secure. We can check with Frederick though." He turned to Billy and said "I will gather the dukes in an hour so you can arrange a schedule."

I looked from Billy to Josh, then laughed. "I will let you two do your plotting. I can see that my input is not needed."

I turned, planning on join Scott and Bea, and almost ran over Charlotte and her brother. They stood there, staring up at me for a moment. Then George poked his sister and said "You ask him."

She gasped and said "No! You ask him."

"Nuh uh. You wanted to see it, so you ask him."

"Daddy says you're going to be King someday, and a King's gotta be brave, so YOU ask him" she quickly retorted.

I knelt down and smiled as I said "Tips, I've just met your father, but I know he would want you to be brave and speak up. What is it you want to ask? I promise it's ok, I won't be angry."

He licked his lips, took a deep breath, and quickly said "Daddy says real vampires aren't like in the movies and that's why you don't have fangs and don't sparkle but he says you do have a beast form and since you're a King your beast form is really unique and can we see your beast Cousin Greg?"

I laughed and said "You mean you have never seen a vampire in his beast form?"

Charlotte shook her head and said "No, Cousin Greg. This is the first time we've met vampires."

I stood and asked "Have any of you seen a vampire's beast?" As I looked around at the young royals, Christian nodded, indicating that he had. The others were looking on in eager anticipation. I then asked "How many of you have even met a vampire before your visit here?" Again, Chris nodded, but this time, Gabe and Emmanuel also raised their hands.

I nodded, then thought for a moment before saying "Then I think you all should get the full experience, along with some education. First, let's ask Morgan to come up and show us the beast form of a vampire."

Morgan looked nervous, but with a bit of encouragement, he stepped forward and shifted, showing our guests his pointed ears, razor sharp claws, half inch fangs, and blood red eyes. Our human cousins stared at Morgan, then George broke the silence with "But your beast is different, Cousin Greg?"

I nodded and said "My beast is different, PG. Not only mine, but many of us with rank. You met my son, Derrick. He is an Alpha, and stands taller than Morgan, and his red eyes glow." I turned to Billy and nodded. He quickly shifted, as I said "Billy is my Beta, and out ranks Derrick, so he's even bigger. His eyes are green."

I turned to Josh who stepped forward and said "As the Crown Prince, I am the same size as Papa, but my eyes are a glowing yellow." He shifted when he finished talking, causing Charlotte to gasp and put her arms around her brother.

I knelt in front of her and said "Don't be afraid, Mignonette. No one here will ever hurt you. You believe me, don't you?" She nodded, so I said "My beast is even bigger than Josh and Billy. Do you want to see? Promise not to be scared?"

She swallowed, then, in a shaky voice said "I wasn't scared, Cousin Greg. He just startled me is all. I know I'm safe with you, Daddy told me so."

I kissed her forehead, then stood and shifted to my King Beast form, towering over the 6-year-old princess. I looked around the room, then retracted my fangs and said "As you can see, I am quite a bit larger than even Joshua. My eyes glow a deep royal purple, and my claws can put a full-grown bear to shame." I retracted my claws and reached down towards Charlotte, who smiled and raised her arms. I picked her up, then continued "Whether in human or beast form, we are the same person."

Alexia turned and asked Niko if she could see his beast form. He glanced at me, and when I nodded, he let his beast out. Lexi smiled at him a moment, then leaned down and gave him a passionate kiss. When they parted, I noticed a small drop of blood on Niko's lip just before he shouted in panic.

I realized what he was most likely thinking as I shifted and rushed to his side. "Calm down buddy, it's ok."

"But you told me biting was part of mating. I didn't bite her, Dad, honest. She brushed her tongue over my fang and got cut."

I put my hand on his shoulder to calm him, then explained how the mating bond was formed. Once he realized what was involved, he calmed. Then his expression turned thoughtful, and he asked "Is it even possible to mate bond with her while she's human?"

I put Charlotte down and said "Let's go ask the only one who might know." I looked around, and saw Vlad talking with Opa and Dad. I pushed Niko over and said "Excuse me Strămoş, but as you had a human son, you might be able to answer Niko's question. Is it possible for him to mate bond with a human?"

Vlad looked down at Niko and smiled, saying "You will certainly feel the pull to attempt the bonding with your soulmate. To make a proper bonding, you both need to ingest blood that is filled with hormones after sexual release. Justina and I tried many times while she was still human, but we didn't bond until I had changed her."

Opa looked surprised, then asked "Justina? The daughter of Ladislaus?"

Vlad nodded as he said "The same."

"I hope I'm not being too personal by asking, what became of her?" I asked.

"No, no, it's fine. She and I left Bucharest after my supposed death in the winter of 1477. We traveled through what is now Ukraine, then on through Belarus, and in 1534, we settled in Moskva, what you know as Moscow. In 1702, Tsar Peter asked me to help build a new capitol city, named after him. We lived there until Justina was killed by the Mensheviks during the March Revolution."

"What happened to Mother?" Opa asked, confused.

"Your mother loved Justina long before I came to love her. She shared our bed many times before your mother was killed by Corvinus when he imprisoned me."

Niko and I excused ourselves, as Vlad and Opa talked. I wanted to know the family history, but they needed time to help heal old wounds. I would need time with Vlad as well, but it could wait.
