The morning run was a lot of fun and at the end JJ pealed off and went
home saying he would see us in school. Once we were home Cole put the
coffee on and I jumped in the shower. My room was a mess and smelled of
cigarettes. I opened the window and sprayed air freshener and started
picking up JJ clothes and shoved them in his bag. Then I stripped the bed
got dressed and went down stairs and got a cup of coffee. The extra time
gained by not taking Cole to a school helped. Cole joined me for coffee
and said, MJ thanks for yesterday, I especially enjoyed the nude
demonstration. While it was fun, I got the damn message. I smiled and
said, let's go or we will be late.


On the way to school, I asked if him and Sam had selected the weekend
getaway location and he promised to have that discussion. Then he said he
would be home right after school as he canceled the golf as he had no
ride to St. Clair and he was tired of imposing on me. Cole, I was
planning on working out after school but I'll drop you off at the club
and and work out at the gym. You have a ride back home? He said that the

period a lot. There are rules and he respects them. Cole just shook his
head and said, fine. The afternoon brought a change in the weather with

said, golf was off and that I should work out and that Sam and one of his
guys would be getting us a ride home. We might be hanging out at Sam's.
I said, great as I'm working out and just call me and I'll pick you up
at Sam's. He said that's perfect. I was glad to workout here at
school.


At the workout room, I changed clothes and started my usual workout and
damn it was an effort. JJ was there and so was Jim. After the workout I
was a sweaty mess and was just sitting in front of my locker and Coach
Weston asked if I had a minute after I cleaned up? I said sure and
stripped and threw a towel around my waist and jumped into the shower. I
dried off and jumped on the scale and almost shit, it read 225. I had
gained 5 pounds. I dressed and went into the office and coach said Mike,

said, that immature dude that plays QB for you? Coach said, well I guess

on the agenda for me. But it is nice not living off my trust allowance.
Then he asked about the accident. I said, I'm lucky just a bump on the
head. He said, please deal with Jim at some point. I smiled and said,
just so you know we are not as close as we were. He said, fix that now
get out of here, I'm sure you have multiple companies to run and he
laughed.


I found JJ sitting at my locker and he said ok, now what? I said let's
walk and we went to the stadium and I sat down in the top row and leaned
against the press box wall and JJ said, so another special spot? I said,
not really but this stadium is where it all started for me, so on
occasion I just sit here. He said you are a nostalgic son of a bitch. I
laughed and said well I am a son of a real bitch. He simply shook his
head and asked, so what's up with Coach? I said Jim and his head. JJ
said, so now that's your responsibility as well? I said welcome to the

you need to tell the coach to run his team. JJ, he does and multiple

I just sat there enjoying the sun as the storms had passed. I laughed and
thought if the storms in my life would only pass so quickly. I picked up
the phone and called Jan. Once again her brother answered and I said, hi
this is Mike is Jan around? He laughed and said, damn that was quick. I
asked, how so? Mike very few people call her Jan. I was shocked and said,
so how long is your leave? He said another week. I said, great I'm
hoping to meet you. He said, well I have read and heard so much about you
I feel the same way. By the way I'm Jack. Let me look for her. Oh ask
for her cell number. I laughed and said absolutely. She got on the line
and I said Jan, I need a favor? She laughed and said a favor already? I

slammed the phone down and I thought well that's the end of that. I
started for the car and my phone rang and it was a number I did not

unintentional. Then she said Mike, Jack said to cut you a break as he is
sure chasing after a chick is not something you are used to doing. I just
laughed and said please tell him thanks. I did not want to offend you I

I hold off on that till after Friday night? Mike, please relax, I don't

great drama free conversation. I told her about how dad selected the new

tomorrow and she laughed and I hung up.


I look at the sky and as the clouds appeared dark, I left the roof up and
drove home. What I found there absolutely amazed me as there was a note
from Ryan, apologizing for the condition of the house and saying dinner
was in the refrigerator. Upstairs all the bedrooms were spotless with new
sheets. Then my phone rang and it was Cole and he asked if I could pick
him up? I said, I would be right there and that I would beep the horn
when I got there as I did not want to come in. He laughed and said, fine.
On the drive I was hoping it was a drama free event. I pulled in the
driveway and hit the horn and Cole and Sam came out and they were both
laughing. Sam asked, what did you say to Carrie in English as she was

great memories and yet not many feelings. I thought about the last time

how to spend money, let me check on a condo there. We can bring beer and

came in and we had a good time. Cole said he needed to call Jay and he
went to his room. Dad, asked how I was holding up and I told him about

head and said dad, Cole and I cooked so you need to clean up and I went

It was all school work and I was on a mission now as it would be focus
and work and to do it better than anyone else.  I spent time on Spanish
and History and then started on the CMU stuff. Finally, around 10:00 I
went and checked on Cole who was sound asleep, I turned out his light. As
I was getting ready for bed, JJ called and said he would be running again
tomorrow. I said, JJ that's great and that I'm on a tear about
everything. He simply said good night. I climbed into bed and was quickly
asleep.


It was up before the alarm and I woke Cole and put coffee on. Soon enough
we were running and again it was great having JJ. Back inside dad was
drinking coffee and he and asked, how I was? I said dad, I'm focused and
intense and it's not a phase, so I'm good and buckle up. He laughed and
said, shit football mode in May. I said, Cole let's go or we will be
late. On the way Cole said Mike, if Nemacolin is too much we can do
something else. I said Cole, relax it will be low keyed and no fancy

School was school and Carrie was nowhere to be found. There was a Spanish
quiz and it went well. At lunch I told JJ about Nemacolin and he said,
pleas get a condo, I smiled and said no shit. I went to the one afternoon
class and signed out for work. When I got to the office, Ruth said Mike,
your dad has asked if you were here yet, you should stop in to see him.
He has been agitated all day. I said thanks and stuck my head in his
office. Dad looked at me and said Michael, close the door and sit. I sat
down and just looked at him. He was quiet for a while and I could see he
was pissed. Then he said, so what the fuck is your problem? I replied, my
problem is that for some strange reason, you have a problem. He said

Dad was a bit thunderstruck and remained silent. I said, I have an
appointment, I'll see you at home. I left slamming the door. I just

I was in my office and dad came in closed the door and sat down. I said
dad, i might have been out of line but seriously. He said Mike, you are
in Cole's head and he worships you and in fact you are in each other's
ass. So you have the most influence. With that comes a responsibility, so

and picked up the phone and asked Ruth to inform Dillon and Mason that I
have a conflict and will be unavailable. I hung up, looked at dad and
asked does that make you happy? Dad just glared at me so I asked, what do
you want? He took a deep breath and said for you to stop blaming me and
giving me a hard time over Cole and a general change in your attitude. I
said, well you are not off the hook until you get Megan and Jay focused
on their kid. As for my attitude, there will be a change as I'm gaining
weight, out of shape and stressed beyond belief. Yes I am seeing Dr.
Drennan tomorrow. What you will find is a very focused guy, with a short
fuse for drama and incompetence. Mike, you are not giving an inch. This
is like fighting with your mom. I screamed, DON'T YOU DARE BRING HER
INTO THIS. For Christ sake, just take some shit off my plate. There is
Cole, Ray, Megan, Jay and now you, all relying in me. There is simply
nothing more for me to give. Dad was quiet again and I sat patiently
waiting for a reply. I was getting madder by the minute and I finally
said dad, how about you take care of everyone over 18 and I'll deal with
the rest. As for my attitude, you will have to deal with me till I'm
back in shape.


This went on for a while and I said dad, this is a shitty place to have
this unusually testy conversation. What if we hug, drive home, calm down,
eat dinner and then continue this in your office? Dad didn't say a word,
just got, gave me a hug and left my office. I just sat there thinking, I
guess he agreed. Thankfully every one was gone and in the parking lot I
noticed dad's car was gone so I drove home and was a little surprised
not to see dad's car. That concerned me as he left before me. Cole
wasn't home from practice so I grabbed an iced tea and went outside.
Sitting in my chair, I realized dad was right, I was fighting too hard
about this and I was indeed acting like mom. Just then dad came in stuck
his head outside and said Mike, dinner please come in. Dinner was Cole
and Japanese takeout and I simply sat down and Cole kept looking at us,
but didn't say a word. We finished a civil dinner and dad said guys, I
cooked so clean up and I need to see both of you in my office. Cole
looked at me and asked, what the fuck? I said, it more about me but your
guess is as good as mine. We we finished cleaning up and Cole knocked on
the door jam and dad said, guys please come in and have a seat.


We were both handed a scotch and ice and dad said Cole, Mike and I had a
nasty conversation this afternoon that caused him to cancel a business
meeting. Cole, the fight was about how the adults in your life seem to
take you for granted, yes that includes me. Mike was way to nasty in that
argument and we hurt each other deeply. Him and I will discuss that
later, I wanted you to know that the three of us love you and will help
make whatever you want happen. As with Mike, what you do with that help
is up to you. We all want you to be happy. I get that MJ is your go to
guy, but I'm here for whatever you need, however just like with Mike I
will try not to hover. Cole said, thanks Mike and that is appreciated but
I get the sense the rest of this needs to be between you and MJ. As far
as I am concerned the rest is Rule 6. Dad and I laughed and Cole left
closing the door.


Once Cole was gone, I said dad, I'm sorry. He laughed and said fuck you
should be, that was a brutal attack today. I said dad, from my point of
view you attacked me at work and that was totally out of line. Dad, I
need to get past this and I promise never to fight like that again, well
with you. Thanks for including Cole and for what you told him, it matters
a lot to both of us. Dead said Michael, I'm sorry as well but that
passive aggressive shit you started yesterday really pissed me of and I
knew you were furious about something so I forced it. Simply know that I
love you and am proud of you and am always available to talk things
through. We hugged and he said so get out of here and go do Mike things.
I smiled, grabbed a cigarette, lit it and said, well there are Mike
things to do but they can wait till we finish our drinks. Dad laughed and
said don't start with the cigarette thing again. I took a drag and put
it out and we were back to normal just chatting. I finished my drink,
gave dad a big hug and went to my room.


I called JJ and we chatted about the weekend and he was reluctant about
Nemacolin being too "special". I said dude, think Ohio Pyle. JJ laughed
and said, oh that's much better. I asked about Dee and he said things
continued to be good and that they were very comfortable together and
there isn't ever much drama. I laughed and asked, how he managed that?
He said it's simple we are not competitive. Oh, we don't fight over
silly shit. I shook my head and said thanks. When we hung up I called
Nemacolin and asked about a Saturday night stay at a condo. There was a
lengthy discussion about rates and a security deposit because of my age.
We settled on the rate and an outrageous security deposit and a two
bedroom condo was reserved. I was really an expensive couple of hours and
it was a 1:00 check in and an 11:00 AM check out.


I was trying to do some CMU stuff and Sam called. We talked for a while
and he was thrilled about the weekend plans. I told him in was
considering whitewater rafting and a low keyed event and that there would
be no fancy dinners or much shit at the resort. Then Sam threw me for a
loop and asked if we could stop at Falling Water? I said sure, do we need
to go inside and he said, nope I just want to see the outside. He said
MJ, Carrie isn't talking to me over this trip. She want to know why I'm
taking your side? I said Sam, there isn't a side to take, it's over. He
laughed and said, well if you say so. I said, I'll see you in school. I
went downstairs and said goodnight to dad, stuck my head in Cole's room
