I woke after a restless sleep and looked out the window and shit it was an
snowy ugly day for a run but I went anyway. In the kitchen I put a full pot
of coffee on and started the run. I managed the 5 miles but with the
conditions, it took longer. As is usual now, Sally was drinking coffee and
reading something. I got a cup of coffee and sat down and asked, so how is
dad? She said ask him. I said ok that fair enough. I grabbed the paper and
the coffee and went into the game room and was reading the paper. In the
business section someone guess that Technologies would be moving into the
space on Second Avenue. I got a second cup of coffee and went back in the
game room with Sally and I ignoring each other. Half way through the second
cup dad came stuck his head in and said good morning and went into the
kitchen. I waited about 5 minutes, went into the kitchen sat down and said
ok let's figure out how to live together.

They both were silent and just looked at me. I said Sally I have become who
I am because of my dad. I looked at him and said dad your turn. Dad went
into the entire story leaving nothing out. When he was finished, I looked
at Sally and said, I'm simply not doing that again. I respect your
relationship but I will not be in the crosshairs ever again. Sally said,
Mike I did not realize all that. So now what? Sally we agreed at the Tavern
a week or so ago that I would be me and you would be you and that before
Senior got hurt we would discuss it. Neither of us have done a good job
keeping our part or the deal. So Sally, now what? She thought for a minute
or two and said Mike, I honestly don't know. I said ok Sally, who or what
am I? She said, Mike apparently whoever you want to be at the moment and it
is never the same person. I said well Sally that's total bull shit. I am
very predictable, dad knows it, my coaches know it, Carrie knows it and my
friends know it, the only person who has an issue with my life is you. So
what's the real issue? She thought for a minute and said Mike you are in my
way.

I said, Sally I know that and when I come up with a plan to no longer be a
distraction you get pissed and dad gets hurt. I offered to move to the
apartment and that was a no. I planned to go to college early and that was
a no. I planned to see an attorney and become an emancipated minor and that
was a no. So what the fuck do you want me to do? I am not the 17 year
choirboy you expected, I tried that once, for mom, and it didn't fucking
work for me. So now what do you want? She looked at me and said, I don't
honestly know but you are not what I expected and it drives me nuts that
you are more important to my husband than I am. I stood up put more coffee
on and was waiting for it to brew and started to read the paper again. Dad
said Mike, I stopped him and said dad please talk with your wife, I knew I
would always be the elephant in the room, just tell me what's what,
please. He got up went into his office and closed the door. I got a third
cup of coffee, went into the power room and then knocked on dads door and
asked, if I could come in and dad replied sure Mike, I would like that.

Dad was sitting in a chair, smoking a cigarette, tossed me the pack, I lit
one and said dad, what do you need from me. I'll do almost anything to make
you happy. He smiled and said, Mike I knew you would be the first to knock
on the door. Immediately after the ceremony she changed and became a
bitch. The dinner was a disaster and if you think she doesn't like you you
should hear what she has to say about your brother. I said dad, so now
what? He said one of the shortest marriages in history. I said, dad please
don't do that. He replied Mike the prenuptial giver her nothing if the
marriage doesn't last one year after that she gets $250,000 and that goes
up by that amount every 5 years with a cap of 1 million. I have my mind
made up and she still has her apartment, she can simply go there and it
will be an annulment or divorce whichever she chooses. Now get out of here

As I was going up the stairs to my room I heard dad say Sally please come
in the office. I thought shit, I'm going to work out. I quickly changed
grabbed my coat and keys and left for the gym. I was working so hard I
actually had to check myself a couple of times. Then it was a quick shower
and home and directly to my room. I started a draft of the press release
about the new location for Technology and revealing Enterprises. I was
about half way through it when there was a knock on the door and dad asked
if he could come in? I got up open the door and gave him a big hug. I
asked, so dad how did it go? He laughed and said she agreed that this would
never work and that except for the sex we were not compatible. I laughed
and said so stud now what? Mike while you were working out she grabbed her
things and left. There will be an annulment and no issues. She did ask me
to tell you to go fuck yourself and there was a less than polite message
for bill. I asked, so dad didn't you talk about all this before the
proposal and wedding? Mike we did and she said it will work out and that
she understood. I said dad, I will call Carrie and explain things and stay
home tonight. Mike, that's too much to ask but how about we go to the club
for dinner, I have reservations, then you can go to see your wife. I
laughed and said deal. Then I showed him the developing press release and
he asked for a pen and made some changes and said Mike, that would be
perfect. Type it up and I'll get it to the paper. Oh, please tell the Mayor
it is happening.

I called the Mayor and he answered saying, Mike don't you ever take a day
off and I said Pete, I'm just an overworked high school kid so there isn't
much time to be off. He laughed and said well at least you didn't get hurt
skiing. I said, Mayor dad is sending this to the papers please listen. I
read the press release and he said Mike, thanks for the heads up but my
chief of staff is going to hate you for the timing. I said there is a lot
of that going around today and I told him about dad and Sally. He said,
damn you are something and hung up.

I called Carrie and gave her the cliff notes about Dad and Sally and said
that I would still be coming tonight but that it would be a little later as
it was dinner with dad. She said she understood and hung up. About 15
minutes later dad yelled Mike you have a visitor. I got to the top or the
stairs and realized that Carrie was there and I yelled down, Dad I believe
you have the visitor, call me when you are done chatting. I was in my room
listening to music when Carrie walked in and pulled my headphones off and
started making out. I said babe, please stop and she stood up and started
to undress and I thought shit. Before I knew it we were naked and the door
was still open and she was sitting on my cock and riding me. She bent over
kissed me and pinched my nipples and I shot a load, she laughed and said I
thought you had that figured out. We kissed for a while and she got dressed
and said, Mike you dad wants to talk with both of us. I thought shit what
now?

We sat in the game room and dad said, ok you two, today was a very
stressful and Carrie I appreciate everything you tried to do and I hope you
are both relaxed. I laughed and said well I am and thanks for letting me be
Mike throughout all this. He said the message here is that for a long time
you two worried me about how close your relationship was and is, it no
longer bothers me. I get you two and I bet the same schools and Mike you
are not starting VT in January. However the summer semester will
work. Sally was an attempt to fill the void with you being away, I realize
that was a giant mistake and I'll find another way. Carrie, thanks for the
talk and for sharing Mike for some of tonight. Mike this drama was not your
fault, I need to make better decisions. Now get out of here, Mike dinner is
at 6:30 just meet me at the club. Now go help Alex and Alice get ready for
the event.

Carrie went back to my room and I changed clothes and handed her the press
release. She said Mike, do you ever take time off and I reminded her about
the ski trip. She laughed and said, oh I forgot I wasn't there. We went
down stairs and I hugged dad and said we were going shopping and he handed
me $100.00 and said I'm getting off easy, I was to be doing this. At the
store it was chips, snacks and soft drinks of every flavor. Back at the
house, we loaded Carrie's car and she was off to help at home.

Back inside I found dad in his office and he said he faxed the press
release and I said I informed the Mayor. Then I asked, so dad how are you
and he said relieved and looking forward to dinner. I asked about what he
and Carrie talked about and he said ask her. I said dad, she said ask
you. Well Mike does that tell you something? Let's just say it was enough
for me to send her to your room for what was very quiet sex and he
laughed. Ok dad, I get it. So when will the press release be in the paper
and he said tomorrow and hopefully it won't get much attention. I laughed
and said don't bet on it, it is the biggest business story in months. Then
I said, I'm going to need help with all this and he said Michael I
know. You need to focus on the building and I got the rest. By the way what
you doing about the furniture? Well my area is being built out and it will
be very modern, yet professional and include a small work out room and a
lounge. Jodie will be starting the work on the Technology furniture and
will be visiting the mess that currently exists. Once that is done you will
need a committee to guide her and a department chart. There are two
furniture dealerships and four top manufacturers being played off against
each other. I want the bid documents out the first week of January as they
are ready. The Mayor will ease the process through the city and I am
serious about a September move in, so it is going to be interesting and
intense. We will start building each floor out as soon as it is possible. I
need this finished by my first football game this year, well next year.

Then I said dad, while I will own and be CEO of Enterprises, I would like
you to be Chairman of the board, reversing our positions at
Technologies. He smiled and said Mike, I would be honored. I got up went to
my room got his package and tossed him his a running suit and said welcome
to the circus. He laughed and said Mike, how many of these are there and I
said, Ryan, Tim, You, Jim and me. Ok Mike, Jim? Yes dad, he is my best
friend and future legal council and he is a director. Besides, I'm betting
he will be a travel companion to and from school. He likes the place and VT
thinks they robbed the bank if they get him. Damn, Sally was right about
one thing, you do plan ahead.

Dad, I'm going to ask one more time and please answer honestly, how are you
doing? Mike, I am pretty good, I think once we were at the cabin we both
realized this was a mistake. We were so different living together and I
realized when she blew it up with you so that it would end. Fuck, if would
have know that I would have made it more miserable for her. He laughed and
said, don't you have something to do other than bother me? I went upstairs
and started on math and before I knew it dad was at the doos saying Mike,
get dressed for the club, jacket and tie please. We took separate cars and
inside I talked with the club manager and and told Jake that iced tea
tonight meant exactly that. Dad was the center of attention and people were
asking where his wife was and he was saying that it was a mistake that is
being fixed. There were questions about the business and dad was in his
glory. In a rare moment of piece, I suggested that he take a cab home. He
said, Mike it is under control, I promise. Dinner for me was prime rib a
salad and potato and a bunch of iced tea. Dad had the same and a bunch of
scotch. At about 8:30 I said dad, call a cab and he said Michael I have a
way home and we can get my car tomorrow. Have fun and I'll see you
tomorrow.

I got to Carrie's took of the jacket and tie and shirt put on a hoodie and
joined a very tame party. It was actually fun and we all got along. I
grabbed Carrie at one point and said being a simple teen can be fun and I
got a kiss and a hug and she whispered, Michael this is fun but I need a
lot more than this and she felt me up. I laughed and grabbed her and we
were kissing and Hannah said get a room you two. I started towards the
stairs and everyone laughed. At midnight we kissed, shook hands and
hugged. I pulled Carrie to a quiet spot and we were making out and I said
babe this will be a great but complicated year, I love you. She said Mike,
limit the complications and I love you. Just then Jim came up gave me a big
hug and said wingman we are the best together. I laughed said trust me this
is only the beginning. We hung out for a while and at about 1:00 I kissed
Carrie and said thanks for the evening, grabbed my jacket, shirt and tie
and got in the car.

About a mile from the house while at a stoplight a car pulled up behind me
and put its lights on, shit the police. I crossed the intersection and
pulled over. I rolled down the window and in a few minutes an officer was
on either side of the car. He leaned in and I said good morning officer
what's the problem. He said driver's license, owner's card and insurance
information please. I said sir, some of that is in my wallet and some in
the glove compartment. He said wallet first and I pulled out my wallet and
gave him the license. He said thanks Mike, drive safely. I replied, yes sir
and slowly drove away. As I pulled into the driveway I saw dad's car and
thought that jerk. Inside dad was in the game room. I sat down beside him
and said dad did you drive home and said Mike I did and I stopped drinking
when you left. It was a good night and I'm glad you got home safe. I told
him I was stopped by the police and once they saw who I was was told to
drive safely and was followed here. I got up poured two scotches and gave
one to dad and sat down. He lit a cigarette and flipped the pack to me and
I lit one. Three drinks later we climbed the stairs and went to our
rooms. I stripped, throwing my clothes in the corner and climbed into bed
and piled on the covers and was drifting off when dad knocked and sat on
the bed and said, Michael James, don't you dare ever change. He rubbed my
head and left. I cried my self to sleep.

I woke up around 8:00 and decided to skip the run. I went downstairs put
some coffee and made some pancake batter. Dad showed up and I said, coffee
and pancakes? He said absolutely. As we were eating I asked what we were
doing today and I said absolutely nothing. Just the two of us and no
agenda. He said Mike, invite Carrie over in fact invite all of them
over. You think they would be up for dinner at the club? I said dad, I'll
gladly do that, I want to see Sam in a tie. I called Carrie and I extended
the invitation and she put the phone down and a minute or so later she was
back saying everyone is thrilled but Sam. I laughed and said tell him if he
wants to be a grownup act like one. I asked if 6:30 was good and she said
sure.

We were watching college football and dad saw how intense I was and said so
Mike can you do that on this level? I simply said yes, I am sure I
can. Then he asked about the VT trip and I said dad you know all
that. Mike, nothing changed? I said well there will be a media event I'm
thinking as the highest rated rising senior linebacker will commit to the
Hokies. Dad said Mike wants the dress? I said I will be in Enterprises
running suit with a VT hat. Dad, you should wear something comfortable. I
laughed and said, I'm taking advantage of the free advertising. I expect
ESPN and WTAE might be there as well. Just then Rob called and I invited
him and his dad to dinner at the club and they accepted and I said dude
coat and tie. He laughed and said sure. I said dad you better make
reservations for 8 and he said damn and I laughed.

Dad and I were at the club first and we were at the bar and dad had scotch
and I had iced tea. Rob and his dad were next and introductions were made
all around. I asked Rob about ice tea and he said whatever. We moved to the
table as Carrie, her parents arrived and Sam was looking miserable. Jake
came over and drinks were ordered Jim and I ordered iced tea, Carrie
ordered Sprite and Sam said I'm having what Mike is having, Jake looked at
me and I shook my head no. The drinks came and Rob's dad just shook his
head as Carrie got white wine, Rob and I Scotch and poor Sam got iced
tea. I saw dad talking to Rob Senior and then he laughed

we were all having a great time and Rob's dad asked how hard I worked out
and I said 5 times a week and that it was a pretty intense workout. He said
damn, it shows. Then I added, sir no supplements either and he laughed. I
got up to use the men's room and Rob's dad followed me. As I was washing my
hands, he said Mike, I want to thank you for being so accepting of Rob, you
really didn't have to do that. I said Sir, I liked you son from the minute
he got out of the car that first day. Im under a lot of scrutiny at school
and Rob as it turns out is taking some of the spotlight and I appreciate
that. As we were walking to the table he said how many scholarship offers
do you have and I said one that matters. He stopped and said you know which
one? I said yes based on the computer science program and the football
program Virginia Tech. He said Mike, I have been watching you and what you
do and you are good for Rob, thanks.

Back at the table dinner was ordered and more drinks and pitcher of iced
tea was put on the table. We were having a great time and Sam asked, Mike,
why is it tea now? I said dude there are always limits, you will figure
that out some day. Dinner came and I was amazed how people were leaving dad
alone. We finished dinner and everyone declined desert and I was
flabbergasted when dad invited everyone to our place for drinks and more
surprised when everyone accepted, even Sam.

At the house dad set up the bar on the kitchen island and said help your
selves, Mike you know the rules and everyone else is under parent rules. I
grabbed a scotch, Carrie white wine and Rob after a brief conversation with
his dad poured a scotch. Sam was in deep conversation with his dad and
finally asked, Mike is there beer, I am permitted one. I said open the
refrigerator and pick your poison. He laughed and said thanks.

Around 11:00 there seemed to be an agreement and everyone thanked dad and
Carrie kissed me and said babe can I spend the night? I looked at her dad
and he shook his head yes. I looked at dad and he did the same. I said
babe, is this not a good example to send to Sam. She kissed me again put
her coat on and left with her parents. Dad looked at me and I said, I know
I am the only 17 year old boy in the country that would have turned that
down. Dad it was a bad example for Sam and Robs father didn't need it
either. Good night.

At the bottom of the steps dad yelled Michael come back here. I got a big
hug and dad asked, will Carrie be mad? I said dad, I don't think so, why?
So your relationship is stronger than sex? I said much stronger, good night
and this time I made it to my room and fell directly asleep.
