All of the players had watched movies of their opponent, Traverse City West High School, and they knew it would be a difficult game to win. All of the players had their pictures taken in the new uniforms, and they couldn't wait to give them to their parents and friends. Trip had attained a new level of self-esteem after his sexual episodes with Robbie, Tracker, Drew and Keith. He was training hard for the cross-country meet that would be held during Parents' Weekend, but he knew that only a few people would attend the meet. Twelve high schools were entered in the competition, and the winning team would have a great chance for the State Championship. "My dad sent you this package," Trip said to Robbie. "I hope you realize that it's illegal to have this in the United States." Robbie took the package and was thrilled that he'd have a special birthday gift for his uncle. Trip's parents lived in Canada and had sent the special box along with other goodies for their son. He promised to thank Trip's dad and pay him for taking the risk to send something for Uncle Dave that wasn't available in the U.S. The package looked like a tin of cookies, but Robbie knew what was really inside. "I can't wait to see my parents and watch you guys kick ass on Friday night," Trip said. "Our cross-country meet is Saturday afternoon, but it's 30 miles away, so we don't expect many spectators. My parents will be there for sure, but everyone is gonna be at the football game on Friday night. I really miss my parents!" Robbie just smiled at his buddy. He had already talked to Guy Stephens about a surprise for the cross-country team, but he didn't want to give Trip any hint of their plans. When Robbie got the first pictures of him wearing his football uniforms, he had begged Drew to take him to town so he could send two 8" by 10" color pictures to his aunt and uncle. The photos were sent by "Overnight Express" and he was thrilled when his aunt and uncle called him when the pictures arrived. "I love these pictures!" David Mathews said to his nephew. "I'm planning on framing one for my desk at work and the other will be on the wall of my office here at home! This is a great birthday present from you! You look fantastic in that uniform, and I'm proud of you for making the team!" Robbie had been excited when he got the prints, and wanted to share them with the two people who had raised him and changed his life. He had another birthday surprise for his uncle, but he kept that a secret. He couldn't wait until Friday evening! Most of the parents arrived on Friday evening and checked into motels in the Traverse City area. The football game started at 7:00 p.m., and the football players wouldn't see their parents until the reception after the game ended. The entire George Washington Academy campus was alive with activity, with cadets welcoming their parents prior to boarding buses or to join the caravan of cars heading to the Traverse City West stadium. WTCM, Channel 12, was broadcasting the game on local television, and two seasoned commentators were giving the pre-game information about the two talented teams. Bernie Thomas was the lead commentator, and he began the broadcast by saying, "We welcome our television audience to the first game in the Tri-County Conference, pitting the Chargers of Traverse City West High School against the Eagles of the George Washington Academy. This is a special treat for our viewers because, for the past four years, the winner of this game has gone on to win the League Championship." "We're not the only ones interested in this game tonight," George Martin added. "Before the game even started I talked to scouts from at least 10 of the top universities in this country, not including West Point, the Air Force Academy, and the Naval Academy at Annapolis. These two powerhouses in athletics have developed some of the finest collegiate and professional football players of any high schools in the nation." "Last year, this game was played on the George Washington Academy Campus, and the cadets won the game by a score of 21 to 14," Bernie Thomas stated. "David Benson had a great game and we saw the raw talent of Andrew Anderson, who made his debut at quarterback. Anderson threw two touchdown passes in that game, one to Justin Chambers and the other to David Benson. The cadets dominated the Chargers in that game, but the score was closer than the statistics showed. Toby Crenshaw and Keith Phillips anchored a solid defensive line, and Latrelle Norton went on to win All State, and High School All-American honors at middle linebacker. The Eagles ran the table, and won the League Championship and went all the way to the SilverDome, where they won the State Championship!" "The cadets are coached by Guy Stephens, my pick as the best high school coach in Michigan," George Martin added. "Stephens is the Athletic Director at the Academy, and has turned down football coaching jobs at several top universities. We had the chance to talk to Guy Stephens earlier this week, and here's what he had to say." The television audience saw a videotaped interview with Guy Stephens and heard him respond to the interviewer. "Guy Stephens, your football team are the defending State Champions, but this weekend you'll be facing what might be your toughest opponent," Sarah Myles began. "You lost some key players to graduation, and your linemen are 40 to 50 pounds lighter than the Traverse City West Charger players. Can your players match up to the talent of the Chargers?" "In every game we played last year," Guy Stephens began, "the opponents' linemen were heavier than my players, but that didn't stop us from going undefeated and winning the State Championship at the SilverDome. We have a conditioning program that emphasizes strength and speed over large body mass. Our heaviest lineman weighs 275 pounds, and it's all muscle. We've faced linemen that weigh well over 300 pounds in several of our games last year, and we prevailed!" "Mike Bass, coach of the Chargers, has a seasoned quarterback in seniors Richmond Adams, and Leroy Bennett, a consensus All-American at wide receiver," Sarah Myles stated. "Can your players stop the 'Dynamic Duo'?" "Our defense is coached by Derrick Harmon," Guy Stephens replied. "Derrick has some plans to keep the Chargers offense on the sidelines so my offense can control the ball and the game clock. Drew Anderson is the best quarterback that I've ever coached or seen play. He's big, strong, and a threat when he throws a pass or runs with the ball. Anderson won All State honors last year, along with Honorable Mention in the High School All-American voting, and could start for any college team in the nation! Justin Chambers was his favorite receiver last year, and both Anderson and Chambers are juniors this year. If they stay healthy, no team in the state can stop them." "What's your prediction for the outcome of this important game?" Sarah asked. "I'd be foolish to answer that question directly," Guy Stephens replied. "My players are ready for this game, and I can promise that we'll do our best to represent the George Washington Academy and all of the alumni and parents who will be in the stands. Let the best team win!" "Guy Stephens is a class act!" Bernie Thomas said after the videotape finished. "I found out that Stephens plays golf with Mike Bass, coach of the Traverse City West Chargers, and the two men are close friends. Let's see what Mike said when he was interviewed. The television audience viewed a similar interview with Sarah Myles when she talked with Mike Bass. He expertly handled the same questions that had been asked of Guy Stephens. "We've got two talented teams coached by two expert coaches," George Martin offered. "There are less than 1,000 cadets on the Academy campus, and they would normally compete in Class C or D in the State of Michigan, but they moved up to Class A, and face teams formed from schools with over 5,000 students." "The Eagles have gifted athletes from all over the world," Bernie Thomas added. "It's the dream of every high school coach to have a constant supply of talent like Guy Stephens has. Let's see if strength and speed can win this game tonight over size and weight!" "This is it!" Guy Stephens said to his players in the locker room. "Last year we beat the Chargers and went all the way to the SilverDome where we won the State Championship! We're in hostile territory, and they expect to win the game tonight and rule our league. I know you guys can win the game tonight if you follow the game plans and execute! I remind you that we represent the finest prep school in the nation. There will be no trash talking, no spiking the football, and no personal fouls! We always hand the ball to the referees, and we show them respect! Any cadet that breaks my rules will wish he were dead! Do I make myself clear?" "YES SIR!" was the unanimous reply from all of the football players. "LET'S GO KICK ASS!" Guy said. He led his team out of the locker room and out on the playing field to the sounds of the Academy Band playing their Fight Song and their cheering fans. "The Eagles' band is striking up the Fight Song, and the Eagles are taking the field, led by their team captain, David Benson!" George Martin announced. "The Eagles have a huge crowd here for this important game! It's Parents' Weekend on the Academy Campus, and important people from all over the world have come to cheer on their favorite high school team!" "I don't know of another high school in the nation that can boast of having 15 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 5 U. S. Senators, and 3 foreign ambassadors, not to mention several Generals and Admirals!" Bernie Thomas announced. "This is the 99th year for the George Washington Academy, and we've heard that next year will bring an even larger host of dignitaries back to the campus that launched their important careers." "The Eagles are wearing new uniforms this year." George Martin said. "Tonight they're wearing their 'away' uniforms, and we see the addition of the last names of the players. That will help us broadcast this important game for the viewing pleasure of our audience. We're going to take a commercial break now, but we'll return for the coin toss." After the commercial break, the commentators continued their pre-game announcements. "The Eagles won the toss, and deferred to the second half," Bernie Thomas said. "Sven Jorgensen is the new kicker for the Washington Academy, and we heard that he never saw a football before enrolling in May. He was a talented soccer player in Sweden, and has made the transition to kicking a football." David and Marie Mathews joined Tom and Carol Anderson, their daughter, Jennifer, and met River and April Whitestone and their son, Hunter, and daughter, Crystal in the stands. All of the families were excited about this important football game, and hoped that the Eagles would win the game. The Andersons knew that Drew would play in the game, but the other parents could only hope that their boys would get some playing time. "Relax, David!" Marie said to her husband. "You're acting like you're getting ready to go out on that field yourself!" "I'm so excited!" David admitted. "Our boy's becoming a man, and I love seeing him wearing that uniform! This brings back great memories for me!" The football game was everything that the audience could ask for in excitement. When the first half of the game ended, the score was tied 14 to 14 after Sven Jorgensen missed a 34-yard field goal. The two teams headed for the locker rooms and the commentators broke for a commercial before giving the first half statistics. "Andrew Anderson had a great first half, but the Eagles defense couldn't prevent Richmond Adams from connecting with Leroy Bennett for two touchdowns," George Martin said. "Anderson connected with Justin Chambers for the first score of the game, and the talented David Benson pushed two tacklers into the end zone for the other score. Even the first half statistics have these two teams tied!" "Guy Stephens likes a balanced attack of short passes from Anderson and the punishing running of David Benson," Bernie Thomas added. "The Eagles linemen might be lighter, but they're starting to wear down the Chargers players. I expect these teams to continue the same game plans in the second half of this important game." "We've got them right where we want them!" Guy Stephens exclaimed to his players in the locker room. "You did great in the first half, and it's time for some 'shock and awe'! We're here to have fun and entertain the crowd and television audience, and the second half belongs to the cadets of the George Washington Academy!" Robbie was so excited that he couldn't control his emotions. He had been running up and down the sidelines, congratulating his teammates on successful plays, and giving encouragement to the ones who made mistakes. The coaching staff, including the trainers, quickly recognized that Robbie was firing up the players to compete at a higher level. "In the second half, we're gonna put more pressure on Adams (Charger quarterback)", Derrick Harmon announced to the screaming players after they had calmed down. "Watch for my signals. We're gonna blitz the linebackers or defensive backs to rattle the quarterback, but remember, when we blitz, we'll be in man-to-man coverage on Bennett. If we don't sack the quarterback or disrupt his rhythm, they can burn us!" The two teams came back on the field to get ready for the second half kickoff. The stands were filled to overflowing, and the crowd was cheering for their favorite team. "Justin Chambers takes the kick at his own 10 yard line and is hit hard at the 26," Bernie Thomas announced. "Chambers is up, but he's shaken up and will have to sit down on the Eagles' bench. I expect Guy Stephens to continue the balanced attack of short passes and the power running of David Benson!" "TRACKER'S GOING IN!" Hunter Whitestone screamed. "MY BIG BROTHER'S GONNA PLAY!" "OH MY GOD!" David Mathews exclaimed. "ROBBIE'S GOING IN TOO!" "The Eagles are coming to the line in the 'spread offense'!" Bernie Thomas announced excitedly. "Tracker Whitestone is split out wide to the left, and Robert Mathews is split out wide to the right! The Chargers look confused at this new formation, and we're surprised to see two freshmen split out as wide receivers! What's Guy Stephens thinking?" "Anderson takes the snap and fakes a handoff to Benson," George Martin said. "He hands off the ball to Whitestone on an 'end around' but the Chargers are closing in on Whitestone on the right sideline! Whitestone wheels around and throws a pass back to Anderson! That's a backward pass, and it's a lateral! Anderson unleashes a long pass down the field and he's got an open receiver!" "ROBBIE'S OPEN!" David Mathews screamed when he realized that the Eagles were trying a trick play. He screamed even louder when Robbie caught the ball and raced towards the end zone! "Andrew Anderson threw a perfect pass from his own 18 yard line to Robert Mathews at the Chargers' 35 yard line!" Bernie Thomas announced. "Mathews never had to slow down to catch the pass and he's gonna take it to the house! He's at the 20, 15, 10, 5, TOUCHDOWN EAGLES!" 'THAT'S MY BOY!" David Mathews screamed. "THAT'S MY BROTHER!" Hunter screamed back. "THAT'S MY SON, TOO!" Tom Anderson yelled. The three families all celebrated with hugs and "high fives" and watched Robbie hand the ball to the referee in the end zone. They all saw Robbie talking to the official and then accept the ball back. "The ref gave Robbie the ball!" Hunter Whitestone exclaimed. "He gets to keep it!" "His first high school touchdown!" David Mathews exclaimed. "What a wonderful act by the referee!" The Eagle fans were still screaming their approval of the trick play and the long touchdown pass while Robbie was swarmed by his exuberant teammates. He held the football high in the air and jumped into the arms of Drew Anderson. "YOU DID IT!" Drew screamed while spinning Robbie around. "YOU FUCKING DID IT!" Robbie had tears of joy running down his face when he ran to the sideline and handed the ball to Guy Stephens. "Can you please save this for my uncle?" he asked his coach. "You did great!" Guy Stephens said to the young cadet after hugging him. He had originally planned for Justin Chambers to be in the play and catch the pass, but the hard hit on the kickoff made that impossible. Robbie had practiced the play several times, and was the obvious choice with Chambers injured. "The extra point by Sven Jorgensen is good!" Bernie Thomas announced. "The Eagles now lead by a score of 21 to 14! Let's watch the replay of that amazing play!" "Guy Stephens fooled us!" George Martin said. "We expected him to pound the ball through the middle with David Benson, but Andrew Anderson threw a bomb of over 45 yards to a wide open Robert Mathews!" "Don't forget a perfect fake to Benson up the middle before Anderson handed the ball off to Tracker Whitestone!" Bernie Thomas added. "Whitestone's listed as a backup quarterback, and he suckered the Charger defense into thinking he was going to run the ball before firing a perfect pass back to Anderson. The Charger defensive backs came up to contain Whitestone, and that left Mathews all alone at the 50-yard line, and he was running full speed when he caught that pass at the 35 yard line. My hat's off to Guy Stephens for creating that play, and the Eagles linemen for blocking the Charger linemen to give the play time to develop. We'll be right back after a short commercial break." "Can you believe that play?" David Mathews asked Tom Anderson and River Whitestone. "That was unbelievable!" "Our boys did great!" Tom Anderson replied. "Coach Stephens fooled everyone, including me! I was sure that Tracker'd be tackled for a loss, but he made a perfect pass back to Drew, and my son hit Robbie perfectly! Robbie's faster than anyone on the field!" "We're ready for the kickoff by Sven Jorgensen," Bernie Thomas announced to the television audience. Both announcers and the entire crowd were shocked when Sven's kick tumbled and bounced in the air only 15 yards from the kicking tee. It was an "on-side kick" and after the ball traveled 10 yards, it was a free ball. "It's an on-side kick!" Bernie Thomas announced excitedly. "There's a mad scramble for the ball, and the Eagles have got it! In the first half of this game, Guy Stephens called a series of short passes and power running by David Benson, but in this half of the game, Coach Stephens has pulled out all of the stops! The Chargers never anticipated the on-side kick, and the Eagles now have a first down on the Chargers' 45-yard line! What an exciting game for our television audience and this jam packed stadium!" Tom Anderson, River Whitestone, and David Mathews were thrilled to be watching their boys play football, and began a bond of friendship that would last for a long time. They were all proud of the Academy and their sons for being on the football team. "The Eagles come up to the line of scrimmage with Whitestone split out wide to the left, and Chambers split wide to the right," Bernie Thomas announced. "Do you think Stephens will try the same trick play again?" "Anderson takes the snap and drops back to pass!" George Martin said. "He's got time, and he fires a bomb to Tracker Whitestone! He's got it at the 10-yard line and streaks into the end zone for another Washington Academy touchdown! Can you believe it? In a total of two offensive plays, the cadets have scored two touchdowns! Both Whitestone and Mathews are freshmen, and they have both found the end zone in their first games wearing the blue and gold of the George Washington Academy!" Hunter and Crystal Whitestone were screaming with joy when their older brother scored that vital touchdown. They both gave everyone near them a "high five" and kept screaming, "THAT'S MY BROTHER!" They saw Tracker talk to the referee before getting the ball back to take it to the sidelines. They were both excited and couldn't wait to congratulate their big brother and see the football. "Guy Stephens has pulled out all of the stops here in the second half!" Bernie Thomas announced after Sven Jorgensen kicked the extra point. "The cadets now lead by a score of 28 to 14, and the Chargers are rattled! There's a flag down on the field, so let's wait and see what the call is." "Personal foul for roughing the kicker!" the referee announced. "The extra point is good, and the penalty will be assessed on the kickoff!" Guy Stephens and Derrick Harmon celebrated on the sidelines and tried to control their excited players. They didn't want their team to be penalized for excessive celebration, but they hugged both Tracker and Drew after the long touchdown pass. The game was going exactly the way they had planned and hoped for. "Sven Jorgensen's kick sails out of the end zone, and the Chargers will start on their own 20 yard line," Bernie Thomas said. "Let's see if the Chargers can respond to two quick touchdowns with a drive of their own to the end zone." Derrick Harmon knew that he had to call defensive plays that would keep the Chargers from getting some momentum. He called for a blitz by his star linebacker, Latrelle Norton, but the quarterback, Richmond Adams found Leroy Bennett open for a 30-yard gain. On the next play, Richmond Adams was sacked for a 7-yard loss. "The Eagles are blitzing on every down!" Bernie Thomas announced. "Richmond Adams had better get rid of the ball quickly, or he'll be on his back!" On the next play, Leroy Bennett caught another pass and the Chargers had a first down on the 30-yard line of the Eagles. The crowd was going wild at the excitement of the football game. "We have a time out called by the officials," Bernie Thomas announced. "Tom Kosmanski has been guarding Leroy Bennett, and he's slow to get up after making the tackle over at the far sidelines. We saw some physical activity after the catch by Bennett for the first down, but we couldn't see what happened. Kosmanski is being helped across the field by the Eagle trainers, and this could be a bad sign for the Eagles. The Eagles can't control Bennett without their top defensive back!" "Time out, Washington Academy!" the official announced. "Defensive coach Derrick Harmon's in trouble now!" Bernie Thomas announced. "We don't know what happened after the catch by Leroy Bennett, but Coach Bass is chewing Bennett out right now, and Coach Stephens is arguing with the officials. I can only guess that Bennett did something to enrage both coaches, but no penalty was called." "He hit me in the balls!" Tom Kosmanski moaned to his coaches. "The bastard is trash talking on every play, and I can't keep up with him!" Derrick Harmon was livid, and joined his boss in arguing for a personal foul on the wide receiver of the Traverse City West Chargers. He and Guy were unsuccessful in convincing the official, and he now had to put a replacement into the game in a very difficult situation. "Put Robbie on that asshole!" Drew Anderson suggested to his coaches. "Robbie can stay with him and nail the bastard!" Derrick Harmon thought about his options and looked at the excited face of Robert Mathews. "Can you shut him down?" he asked of Robbie. "He's taller and stronger than you are, but you're fast. Can you do it?" Guy Stephens interrupted his friend. "Bennett is eight inches taller and at least 40 pounds heavier than you are. You told me that you want to be a Navy SEAL! Now's your chance to prove that you're tough enough to be a SEAL candidate! Don't let his trash talking make you lose your focus! This entire team's depending on you!" Derrick Harmon grabbed Robbie and looked directly into his eyes before saying, "Remember during Orientation Weekend when you kicked Anderson's ass and mine?" "I apologized to both of you for that!" Robbie replied quickly. "Shut the fuck up and listen to me!" Derrick demanded. "Anderson and I are bigger and stronger than you are. How did you take us down? Think about it! How did you do it?" "I remembered what my uncle taught me," Robbie began. "He said a smaller guy has to use his brain, agility and leverage to take down a bigger opponent." "Bennett's bigger and stronger than you too!" Derrick said to the excited freshman. "Tonight, I want you to be a Navy SEAL! Use your brain, agility and leverage and take that asshole down!" Robbie was determined to prove to everyone watching the game that he was tough enough to stay with the talented wide receiver of the Traverse City West Chargers. He gave Drew a "high five" before putting on his helmet to go out on the field. "Mathews!" Derrick yelled. "No leg kicks or Karate chops!" Robbie laughed at what the coach had just said. He would never use his Karate skills against another football player, but the joke relaxed some of the tension in his body. He wiped the smile off his face when he started to use his mind control techniques to get ready for action. "Robbie's going in!" David Mathews yelled to his friends in the stands. "I can't believe what I'm seeing!" Bernie Thomas said to his television audience. "Robert Mathews is listed at 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, and it looks like he'll be lined up against Leroy Bennett! Bennett is 6 feet five inches and 220 pounds! Coach Bass will definitely try to take advantage of this mismatch and throw to Bennett!" "I'm gonna run right over your lily white ass and stomp on your tiny little nuts when I do it!" Leroy Bennett said to Robbie when they faced each other at the line of scrimmage. Robbie didn't say a word to Bennett, but he glared right back at the tall black wide receiver. "Tom Kosmanski was right! This guy is a trash talking asshole!" Robbie thought. He bit down on his mouthpiece and waited for the ball to be snapped. Leroy Bennett was elated! He had got away with hitting Tom Kosmanski in the balls, and was now facing a smaller, lighter defensive back. He was arrogant, and knew he could run right over Number 17! "Here's the snap, and Adams drops back to pass!" Bernie Thomas announced. "OH MY GOD! WHAT A HIT!" "Leroy Bennett took off at the snap and was 'submarined' by Robert Mathews!" George Martin added. "Adams had to check off from his main receiver and was sacked for a loss by Toby Crenshaw! Bennett was flipped over on his back by the smaller freshman defensive back! I never expected that to happen to a talented senior like Bennett!" "THAT'S MY BOY!" David Mathews screamed to everyone in the stands. "DID YOU SEE THAT HIT?" Marie Mathews was thrilled at what Robbie had done, but she worried about how emotional her husband was over this football game. She had never seen David so excited, and hoped that he had taken his blood pressure medication. "HOLY SHIT!" Derrick Harmon exclaimed. "He nailed that asshole good!" "I told you Robbie could handle Bennett!" Drew exclaimed to both coaches. All of the players on the sideline were screaming their appreciation of what Robbie had done. Robbie leaned down and asked Leroy Bennett, "How does that grass feel on your back? Is it softer than artificial turf?" He held his hand out to help Bennett to his feet, but the nasty black player snarled at him and said, "I'm gonna kill you, you little honkie fucker!" Leroy Bennett struggled to his feet and headed back for the huddle of his teammates, knowing that they would be pissed at him. Robbie ran to the defensive huddle and accepted the congratulations from his teammates. Keith Phillips made sure that everyone knew that Robbie's handling of Bennett had caused the quarterback to try and find another receiver. "You should get credit for half of that sack!" Toby Crenshaw said to Robbie. "Nice job, squirt!" Latrelle Norton, the defensive captain, got the signal and told the Eagle players what play Coach Harmon had called. "Cover 2" he said. "Four man rush, linebackers stay home and we play zone defense!" "The Chargers come to the line of scrimmage with second down and 17 yards to go for a first down," Bernie Thomas announced. "Crenshaw just showed his strength by pushing aside 330 pound offensive guard Clayton Morris to sack Adams for a seven yard loss on that last play." "I'm gonna catch this pass and shove the ball up your mother fucking ass!" Leroy Bennett said to Robbie. He was determined to make up for the last play by humiliating the small freshman. "Bennett is split wide to the right, and Jarvis is split wide to the left," George Martin said. "Adams is back in the 'shotgun formation' with no running back. Adams takes the snap and has protection! He fires a pass to Bennett cutting across the middle of the field!" "Bennett's hit hard by Robert Mathews, and the ball's dropped for an incomplete pass!" Bernie Thomas announced. "That was a big time hit by the small freshman to knock the ball out of Bennett's hands, but Bennett's supposed to be the best wide receiver in the state, and maybe the nation! That pass hit him in the hands, and I think all of the scouts here tonight expected him to catch that pass!" "Don't take away the intensity of that hit by Mathews!" George Martin said. "Mathews put his helmet right on the ball and knocked Bennett flat for the second time in two plays! Leroy Bennett has been throttled for the last two plays by a small freshman! I guess Derrick Harmon and Guy Stephens knew what they were doing by putting Mathews in the game!" "I hope Robbie doesn't kill Bennett!" Derrick said to his boss, Guy Stephens. "Maybe you shouldn't have told him to act like a Navy SEAL!" Guy Stephens laughed at his good friend, Derrick, and reminded him that he told Robbie the same thing. The entire team was fired up from watching the Charger drive get stalled at their 37-yard line. "Corner blitz" Toby Crenshaw announced to his team after getting the signal from Coach Harmon. "Robbie, you're the gunner! Nail his ass!" Robbie lined up against Leroy Bennett, and had to listen to another string of racial slurs and threats. He stayed close to Bennett until he saw the center snap the ball to the quarterback. He ran as fast as he could, and saw Richmond Adams roll to his left, leaving his back to Robbie. He lowered his head and hit the right side of the quarterback, just at the instant Richmond Adams tried to pass the ball. "Adams is back to pass, and there's a corner blitz!" Bernie Thomas announced excitedly. "He's hit, and the ball sails up into the air! It's picked off by Keith Phillips and the big defensive end heads for the south end zone!" "Phillips is outrunning the pursuit!" George Martin added. "He's gonna take it to the house!" "Keith Phillips picked off that 'wounded duck' pass and took it 70 yards for another Eagle touchdown!" Bernie Thomas exclaimed. "Guy Stephens was right about the speed of his players! Phillips is listed at 6 feet 5 inches tall and 255 pounds, but he looked like a running back after he intercepted that pass!" Robbie's head was spinning, but he cleared his head and joined his teammates by running to the end zone to congratulate Keith on the touchdown. When he ran up to Keith, he jumped into the big lineman's arms to celebrate another score for the George Washington Academy. "DID YOU SEE THAT HIT?" David Mathews screamed. 'THAT'S MY BOY!" "I don't fucking believe it!" Derrick exclaimed to Guy Stephens. "Mathews hit him like a freight train! We've created a monster!" "That monster just got us six points!" Guy replied excitedly. "He's just like his uncle!" He joined his players in congratulating Keith Phillips and Robbie Mathews when they got to the sideline. "That was a pro football hit!" Tom Anderson said while congratulating David Mathews. "What the fuck did you feed that kid to make him so tough?" "Marie's a great cook and Robbie eats like a horse!" David replied. "Robbie's got the heart of a Navy SEAL, and I'm so proud of him that I'm ready to shit my pants!" "You men!" Carol Anderson exclaimed. "This is a football game! Clean up your language!" Marie Mathews and Carol Anderson were both excited about the football game, but they couldn't believe that their husbands were so excited that they were using foul language in front of teenaged children. "We hear worse in school!" Crystal Whitestone said. "The Eagles are kicking ass!" All of the adults laughed and realized that the intensity of the game was affecting everyone. "When the second half of this game began, we expected a close game and a defensive battle," Bernie Thomas announced after Sven Jorgensen kicked the extra point. "The George Washington Academy Eagles now lead this game by a score of 35 to 14, and there are only 10 minutes left in this game! The Traverse City West Chargers are getting blown off their home field, and this crowd is going wild! We're taking a commercial break, but we'll be back for the kickoff!" Guy Stephens and Derrick Harmon called all of their players together for a quick meeting during the official time out. They wanted to make sure that all of their players remained focused and followed their game plans. "This game is ours!" Guy said to his exuberant players. After the players stopped cheering he continued. "We scored two touchdowns in less than two minutes, but they can too if we lose our focus! We can't let them get back into this game by letting down our guard!" "They'll try to score quickly," Derrick Harmon added. "We're gonna rush only 3 men and play zone defense. Don't let their receivers get behind you, and when Adams throws a pass, clobber the receiver! The refs will be watching for late hits on the quarterback, so make sure you hit him when he has the ball or break off your attack! Let's get out there and finish them off!" Guy and Derrick were correct in their assessment of the plays that Mike Bass called for the Chargers offense. The pass coverage was perfect, and the Chargers were forced to run the football, using up precious time on the game clock. "The Chargers have a first down on their own 45 yard line," Bernie Thomas announced. "The Eagles are in a prevent defense, and the Chargers are forced to run the ball or throw short passes. The game clock is now the enemy of the Chargers, and they'll have to take some risks to get the ball down the field, or this game will be over!" "I'm gonna catch the next pass for a touchdown and then ram my black cock so far up your ass that it comes out your mouth!" Leroy Bennett exclaimed to Robbie. He was sure that he could intimidate the small defensive back. "That would be impossible!" Robbie began. "Latoya said your dick is so short that you piss on your nuts!" Leroy Bennett was capable of dishing out the verbal abuse, but wasn't capable of taking it. He was so furious with the small defensive back that he broke his stance before the ball was snapped and slammed into Robbie. He grabbed Robbie's facemask and spun him to the turf. Robbie had intentionally tried to piss off Leroy Bennett, and had relaxed when he saw the official throw the penalty flag and whistle the play dead. He wasn't ready for a physical attack and was thrown to the turf by the irate player. "We have two penalties on the play," the referee announced to the crowd. "False start by Number 1 of the offense, and after the play was whistled dead, we have a personal foul for grabbing the facemask against Number 1 of the offense. Both penalties will be assessed!" "The Chargers are self-destructing!" Bernie Thomas announced. They are now backed up to their own 20 yard line, with a first and 30!" "The officials have called a time out!" George Martin announced. "Both benches are getting a visit from the referee, so let's take another commercial break while the officials talk to both coaches. "The trash talking has got to stop!" the referee said to Guy Stephens. "If we hear any more crap from any players, they'll be ejected!" "What did my boy say?" Guy Stephens demanded of the referee. "You ask him!" the referee replied. "It made me laugh, but I can't let it continue!" "MATHEWS!" Derrick Harmon screamed at Robbie. 'GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!" Drew ran up to the two coaches. He knew that Robbie had a smart mouth and wondered what his Little Brother had said to Leroy Bennett to enrage him. "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU SAY TO BENNETT?" Derrick Harmon demanded of Robbie. "TELL ME, OR YOUR ASS WILL BE ON THE BENCH FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON!" "I told you that Bennett was making racial slurs to me!" Tom Kosmanski said to his coaches. He wanted to defend Robbie, no matter what the plebe had said. "He said he was gonna catch the next pass and then shove his black dick so far up my ass that it would come out my mouth!" Robbie said. "WE DIDN'T ASK YOU WHAT HE SAID! Guy Stephens demanded of Robbie. "ANSWER THE QUESTION OR SIT ON THE BENCH!" Robbie knew that his coaches were pissed at him, and honestly replied, "I told him that wasn't possible." Robbie didn't know what his coaches would do if he told the truth, but he saw Drew encouraging him to tell the truth. "I told him that Latoya said his dick was so short that he pisses on his nuts!" Drew and Tom Kosmanski exploded in laughter. The other players near the coaches joined in the laughter until Guy Stephens gave them the "SEAL Look". They quickly retreated to the group of players and immediately told everyone what Robbie had said. "Who the fuck is Latoya?" Derrick asked Robbie. "I don't know," Robbie replied honestly. "I just used a name that sounds like it might be a black girl, and it seemed to work to piss him off! He must have a short winky!" "God help me!" Guy exclaimed. "You handle this!" he said to Derrick while turning away from his players. "No more trash talk!" Derrick ordered. "Get your ass back out there and shut him down!" "My mouth's full of blood!" Guy admitted to Derrick. "When I heard what Robbie said, I tried to keep from laughing out loud with Anderson and Kosmanski, and the only way I could was to bite my cheek! I'm glad you were able to talk to him!" My cheek's bleeding too!" Derrick admitted to his friend. "That little shit could intimidate the Pope!" "Bennett is split wide to the right, and Smith is split wide to the left," George Martin announced when the game resumed. "Adams takes the snap and drops back quickly. He fires the ball to his right to Leroy Bennett! IT'S PICKED OFF! Robert Mathews took that ball right out of the hands of Leroy Bennett, and Mathews is headed for the south end zone. He's in the end zone, and the Eagles now lead by a score of 41 to 14!" "Leroy Bennett should have caught that pass!" Bernie Thomas announced. "He let a smaller guy take that pass away from him, and never pursued Mathews to tackle him! By the time he wised up, all he could see was the taillights of the 'Mathews Express' headed for the end zone! Even the officials had trouble catching up with Mathews!" Robbie had taken a chance in blasting across the line of scrimmage to hit Leroy Bennett. When he saw the quick pass from the quarterback, he took another chance and went for the ball. The adrenalin was pumping through his body when he raced towards the end zone, and he never slowed down until he crossed the goal line! He stood in the end zone and spun the football around on his index finger while he faced the stands where he knew his aunt and uncle were seated. When the official made it to the end zone, Robbie stopped the spinning football and handed it to the official before being swarmed by his teammates. Keith Phillips had a special bond with Robbie, and was thrilled that the plebe had scored another touchdown. From the day he met Robbie and had temporarily been his Big Brother, Keith wished that he had been the Big Brother for both Robbie and Tracker. He ran up to Robbie and opened his arms to catch a very special plebe. "YOU FUCKING BURNED HIM!" Keith screamed at Robbie. "YOU FUCKING DID IT!" Robbie had trouble seeing. His eyes were filled with tears of joy, and he loved the recognition and admiration of his teammates. He ran back to the sidelines where Drew and the other players were waiting for him. He jumped into Drew's arms and put both fists in the air in celebration! The crowd was going wild, especially seeing Robbie holding his fists in the air, screaming "YES, YES, YES!" "JESUS CHRIST IS HE GREAT!" Guy Stephens screamed to Derrick Harmon. "CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT WE JUST SAW?" "Can you imagine how good he must be in baseball?" Derrick replied. "He's fucking fantastic at football, but David said his best sport is baseball! Terry Pahls will go nuts when the baseball season begins. Robbie's a 'chip off the old block' and it's like we have David Mathews on the field! That boy's tough as nails!" Guy Stephens and Derrick Harmon pushed through the mass of players congratulating Robbie on the touchdown, and both of them took turns hugging the exuberant plebe. David Mathews was overwhelmed when he saw his boy intercept the pass and score another touchdown for the Eagles. He was screaming to everyone, "THAT'S MY BOY!" He accepted the congratulations of everyone in the stands for the performance of the boy that he and his wife raised. "The extra point is good, and the Eagles now lead by a commanding score of 42 to 14!" Bernie Thomas announced. "In all of my years broadcasting high school sports, this is the most exciting game I've ever witnessed! We'll take a commercial break, but we'll be right back to show the replay of that exciting interception and touchdown run!" The Chargers took the kickoff to their own 28-yard line, and began completing short passes and runs. The clock was running and the Eagles were excited about winning this important game. "The Chargers have a first down on the 45 yard line of the Eagles," Bernie Thomas announced. "Richmond Adams and Leroy Bennett have been throttled by the Eagles' defense, and all they can do is hope for a touchdown to cut down the margin of victory." "Tom Kosmanski has returned to the Eagles lineup, but Mathews is still guarding Bennett," George Martin added. "Bennett hasn't caught a single pass since the small freshman came into this game, and his stock with the college scouts has dropped to zero! With only five minutes left to go in this game, the Eagles are going wild on the sidelines!" "Adams takes the snap and drops back to pass," Bernie Thomas announced. "He's got time and he sends a bomb to Leroy Bennett in the Eagles' end zone! Bennett jumps high in the air, BUT THE PASS IS INTERCEPTED! Robert Mathews out jumped Bennett and came down with the ball!" "OH MY GOD!" George Martin exclaimed when he saw the actions in the end zone. "CUT TO A COMMERCIAL! NOW!" Robbie intercepted the pass and went crashing to the turf. He managed to hold onto the ball, and tried to stand up to hand the ball to the official. He was on "all fours" and facing away from Leroy Bennett when he felt the savage kick that flipped his body over. David Mathews was shocked to see Leroy Bennett walk up behind Robbie and kick Robbie in the balls. The impact of the kick flipped Robbie over, and David knew his son was severely hurt. He screamed and started pushing his way out of the crowd to get down on the field. Robbie's vision went black when his body reacted to the severe kick in the groin from Leroy Bennett. His vision only cleared slightly when he saw a leg flying towards his ribs. When he felt the impact, he screamed and grabbed the leg of his attacker and held it tight while "rolling up". The results were immediate. He heard a sickening crack and snap when Leroy Bennett's leg and knee ligaments snapped, and then heard his attacker screaming in pain. No one could believe what he or she had just witnessed in the end zone. When reality hit them, all of the players on both teams tore onto the field. Drew Anderson was the first player to get to Robbie, and he savagely tore Leroy Bennett off from his Little Brother and threw the asshole over 10 feet away. The shock of what he had seen had given him "inhuman" strength, and he was ready to kill Bennett. The cadets quickly formed a protective ring around Robbie and Drew, and fought off the Charger players who tried to get to their injured teammate. Guy Stephens and Derrick Harmon raced onto the field along with their trainers, and joined Mike Bass, coach of the Chargers, his assistant coaches and trainers, and the officials in trying to separate the players. They had never witnessed this type of savage attack, and wanted to kill Leroy Bennett themselves. They broke through the protective circle of players and tried to comfort Robbie Mathews. Robbie was on his back and had vomited the Gatorade and any food that was left in his stomach. He was sobbing and couldn't catch his breath. He recognized the voice of Andrew Anderson and tried to fight the intense pain in his groin and chest. He knew that he was hurt bad, and struggled to breathe. He felt his helmet being removed and gripped Drew's hand tightly to fight off the pain and stay conscious. "Get an ambulance!" Guy Stephens ordered Eric Hart, one of the team trainers. "Don't move, son!" he said to Robbie. Marie Mathews knew that her husband was a "lethal weapon" when he was angry, and she begged Tom Anderson and River Whitestone to run after David to keep him from killing the player who had attacked their son. She prayed that Guy and Derrick would help control David, but she feared that he would kill Leroy Bennett. "We're back, but we won't show you what happened after that interception, or what's going on right now down on the field!" Bernie Thomas announced to the television audience. "We don't use any delay in our coverage of football games, and we apologize to the television audience for showing a savage attack by Leroy Bennett against Robert Mathews!" "I've never seen anything like that in my life!" George Martin said. "We're taking another commercial break while the officials try to control the players on the field!" By the time David Mathews got down on the field, two police officers tried to stop him from running on the field. He was pissed, but didn't want to assault the officers to get to Robbie. He took a deep breath and told the officers that Robbie was his son, and he had to get on the field. "We're back again, but we still won't show you what's happening on the playing field," Bernie Thomas announced. "Both coaches are on the field to separate their players, and we now see an ambulance pulling up next to Leroy Bennett. We'll show you the replay of the interception, but we won't show you the attack that happened in the end zone!" Mike Bass was livid with the behavior of his players. He was appalled at the attack by Leroy Bennett, and violently pulled his players away from the protective circle of cadets and ordered them to the sidelines. He knew that Leroy Bennett was severely injured, but he was ready to attack his own player for the savage attack on Robert Mathews. He helped the ambulance attendants load Leroy on the gurney and then tried to get to his friend, Guy Stephens to apologize for the unwarranted attack. The looks on the faces of the cadets protecting Robert Mathews and the coaches told him to avoid a confrontation. Robbie could barely see. The pains in his balls and ribs were excruciating. He gasped for air and tried to use his martial arts training to fight the intense pain. He could barely see, but he recognized the voice of his uncle. He reached out his left hand and felt his uncle squeezing his hand and saying things to calm him down. He fought the pain and tried to relax by doing the mind control exercises his uncle was describing to him. "Get that ambulance in here!" Guy Stephens ordered. "Try to take short, shallow breaths," he said to Robbie. "We're gonna get you to a hospital! Dr. Miller's here! Talk to her!" "No Demerol!" Robbie choked out to his favorite doctor. He was wearing the "Med Alert" necklace that identified his allergy to the common painkiller, but he wanted to make sure. Linda Miller remembered the terrible day when she had injected Demerol into Robbie when he had been shot at the "Snake Pit", and gave Robbie an injection of a safe painkiller. The medication worked quickly, and Robbie started to relax. "WHERE'S THAT FUCKING AMBULANCE?" Guy Stephens screamed. "Our ambulance will be here in a few minutes," Dr. Miller replied. "The ambulance assigned to this game took the other player, but I called the Academy for our ambulance when I saw the attack. I've called a friend who's a specialist in urology, and Dr. Hanlon will meet us at Wilson Medical Center." David Mathews continued trying to comfort his nephew, and listened to his friends, Guy Stephens and Derrick Harmon apologizing for the injuries to Robbie. He had been ready to kill Leroy Bennett, but listened to Tom Anderson and River Whitestone pleading with him to take care of Robbie instead of attacking Bennett. He watched Dr. Miller put the oxygen mask on Robbie's face and tried to control the anger that was raging in his body. "The ambulance is here!" Dr. Miller said. Robbie pulled the oxygen mask off his face. His body was filled with pain, but he cleared his eyes and tried to get up. "STAY DOWN!" Guy Stephens ordered. "A SEAL never gets carried off the battle field!" Robbie choked out. "WHAT THE FUCK?" David asked his two SEAL friends. "We told Robbie to act like he was a SEAL candidate when he went into the game," Guy apologized to his mentor. "He kicked ass tonight, but maybe we went too far with him." "Help him stand up!" David Mathews ordered. He glared at Dr. Miller when she objected, and saw Guy and Derrick push her aside. He was determined to honor the wishes of his nephew, and his body swelled with pride after hearing that Robbie was trying to act like a Navy SEAL! He asked Tom Anderson to get Marie and use his car to take his wife to the hospital to be with Robbie. "I don't believe what I'm seeing!" Bernie Thomas announced. "Turn the camera back on and show the end zone! Robert Mathews was savagely attacked, but the freshman is struggling to his feet! Keith Phillips and Andrew Anderson have pushed aside the coaches and medical staff, and are helping Robert Mathews walk towards the Academy ambulance and a waiting gurney. This crowd is on their feet! Everyone on both sides of the stands is cheering for the injured player! Robert Mathews has to be the toughest kid in the world right now! He was savagely attacked, but he's pushing away his two teammates, and he's limping over to the gurney! What a display of guts!" "Michael Edwards, the Personnel Director for the Washington Academy is here with us," George Martin announced. "Mike has just informed us that Robert Mathews, who likes to be called Robbie, was raised by his aunt and uncle, and his uncle, David Mathews is a Navy Captain with a distinguished career in the Navy SEAL's." "Robbie's the Martial Arts Champion at the Academy," Michael Edwards said to the television crowd. "Earlier this summer, Robbie was shot when he risked his life to protect Guy Stephens, Drew Anderson and other cadets when an intruder attacked our campus. Robbie wants to be a Navy SEAL like his uncle, and what we're witnessing right now is a teenager who's proving to everyone here that he's tough enough to be a Navy SEAL candidate! I'm sure that everyone is praying for the recovery of Robbie Mathews from these terrible injuries. Mike Bass is an honorable man and dedicated football coach, and I know Mike would never want one of his players to attack another player like we witnessed tonight." "The crowd is still applauding the grit of Robbie Mathews" Bernie Thomas announced. The ambulance is now leaving, and we saw a man who must be David Mathews, along with Dr. Linda Miller get inside with Robbie Mathews." "The referee has cleared the field, and let's go down on the field to hear how this game will continue," George Martin announced. "We have multiple fouls on the play," the referee announced through his microphone. "We have 'un-sportsman like conduct' on Numbers 1, 28, 74 and 82 from the Chargers, and 'un-sportsman like conduct' on Numbers 17, 6 and 76 from the Eagles. All of those players are disqualified from this game and must leave the field immediately! The result of the play is an interception and touchback! The Eagles have a first down on their own 20 yard line!" Guy Stephens was livid that Drew Anderson, Number 6, and Keith Phillips, Number 76, had been ejected from the game along with Robbie. He argued with the officials, but knew it would do no good. Robbie had already left the field, but he ordered Keith Phillips and Drew Anderson to head for the locker room along with Eric Hart, one of the trainers. "Robbie's my Little Brother and I need to be with him right now!" Drew pleaded with the coaches before leaving the game. "You grab one of the Academy Suburbans and take Anderson with you to the hospital," Guy said to Derrick. "I'll be there when the game's over!" Tracker Whitestone went into the game as quarterback, and expertly ran the team to run out the game clock. The fans counted down the last few seconds of the game, and the George Washington Academy Eagles won by a score of 42 to 14! Mike Bass ran out on the field for the traditional "hand shake" with the other coach after a football game. He was still upset at the behavior of his players and tried to apologize to his friend, Guy Stephens. "Guy, you know I'd never condone behavior like that!" Mike Bass said to his friend, Guy Stephens. "Bennett's fucked up bad, but even if he recovers, he'll never wear a Charger uniform again! I should have kicked his sorry ass off my team last year, but I didn't. Please don't let his attack end our friendship! Please tell Mathews and his family that I apologize for what happened." "Mike, you're still my buddy!" Guy replied. "I don't blame you for what happened tonight! Robbie's a tough kid, and I'm headed for the hospital to be with him and his uncle. Derrick's already headed there, and we both know that you would never want something like this to happen. David Mathews trained me at SEAL camp, and he's an honorable man. I'm sorry that this shit happened, but I still consider you my friend!" "Jane Collins is down on the field with Guy Stephens," Bernie Thomas announced. "Let's hear what Coach Stephens has to say about this important victory for his team and the tragic injuries to his freshman player, Robbie Mathews." "Coach Stephens, how do you feel about this victory and what happened in the end zone?" Jane asked Coach Stephens. "Mike Bass and I are close friends, and we play golf together when we're not opposing each other on the football field," Guy replied. "Mike and I are both appalled at what happened tonight, and we won't tolerate that type of behavior by our players. Robbie Mathews is a tough little guy, but he didn't deserve to be attacked for intercepting a pass! I'm proud of my coaching staff and our players for winning this game tonight, but I'm sorry to cut this interview short so I can get to the hospital to check on my player." "I know I express the sentiments of my broadcasting crew in hoping that Robbie Mathews makes a quick recovery from his injuries," Jane said. "I'll send it back to Bernie and George in the press box, with the final score, George Washington Academy Eagles, 42, and the Traverse City West Chargers, 14." The hostilities on the football field were not ended. More physical confrontations were going to happen!
