Date: Mon, 09 Feb 1998 14:47:46 -0500 From: Marc Mustacchio Subject: JOCKEY HOLLOW II: EPISODE XXXIX JOCKEY HOLLOW: AN ON-LINE SOAP OPERA ABOUT GAY YOUTH EXPRESSING THEMSELVES SEXUALLY. Jockey Hollow is a small town of 5200 people located in the Northeastern corner of Nebraska. Its population is made up primarily of a younger 20-something crowd, mostly gay men who have found a haven in Jockey Hollow. There is an older generation of people in their late-30s-40s, and an even smaller teen crowd. The teenagers are runaways from cities like Des Moines & Cleveland; runaways who have been outcasted from their families because the are gay. Things in Jockey Hollow are not what they seem or appear to be. The stories revolve around the principals' characters, all of who are in their 20s and gay. Occasionally female characters appear, but they are the girlfriends of bisexual characters. Episode XXXIX Josh stared at Kent, he could not believe who was sitting next to him. Kent! They moved to a booth. "So how's Ty?" Kent asked. "Ty died Christmas Eve of AIDS, Kent." "Oh my God, Josh. I'm sorry." "Do you have any idea what it's like to watch someone you love and care about deteriorate before your very eyes?" "No." "Let me tell you it isn't pretty. We were both promiscuous fucks, running around having sex with everyone and anyone." "You two weren't monogamous?" "Fuck no!" Josh said. "We would come home and compare notes." "Then how could you say you loved each other?" "We had an understanding. After all of the day's conquests, we always came home to each other. I was a whore, a barebacked bottom, I swallowed, had guys come in my ass. He was the top and would fuck and jam his cock in many guys. I would get it at night." "Barebacked?" "Unprotected." "Well no wonder Ty got sick. He was careless." "Don't judge him. He was judged enough. The doctor who diagnosed him, the nurses at the hospital, the landlord, everyone. Everyone but me. I quit my job and cared for him at home 24/7. We had a hospice come in. I also gave up sex for good. Celibacy. Abstinence. Total culture shock. I went from doing 10-12 guys a day to doing zero. Talk about cold turkey." "Were you having sex with as many men when you were going out with Alyssa?" "Not as many." "So you also put her at risk of developing AIDS and hence myself." "We always used protection. She didn't want to wind up pregnant. How is Alyssa anyway?" "We split up. I found her fucking my roommate." "She takes after me." "Promiscuity is nothing to brag about, Josh." "I know that. MY GOD DO I KNOW THAT! Nobody knows that better than me. I lost Ty because of excessive sex. So don't judge me." He paused. "Waiter! Can we get some coffee please." "How'd you ever end up here?" "I read an article in the Village Voice about this little hamlet, a haven for homosexuals in the Bible Belta town called Jockey Hollow. I read about the murder of a young hustler in this haven. But it was billed as a haven and I came here hoping to find some solace in my loss. To find some comfort among friends, free of any judging, free of any cruising." The waiter brought coffee for Kent and Josh. "And then I got here and I'm picked up by the first guy I meet. You know there was a girl at NYU who told me that I had to be gay because I was the best looking and best dressed guy she ever saw. So the first guy I met here hit on me. Then I'm exiled from of the diner." "I knew you'd wind up bragging about something. I didn't think it'd be about your stunning looks, though. Nonetheless, you are a fucking meddler, Josh. Even while you were dating Alyssa. You had to have that `No Barefeet' sign posted in the diner, didn't you?" "That's not sanitary." "Well guess what, you're not there anymore to care." "Then on my first night here I'm harassed by a strange man who called himself Jack North." "The man who's opening the Cybercafe?" "Yes." Kent laughed. "He harassed you?" "Yes, he took out his cock and told me to suck it?" "You call that harassment?" "That's exactly what I mean. Why assume that I want to suck every cock I see?" "Because you did." "Not any longer. So anyway, he says he's the devil." "What?" "Yes. He said in a round about way that he was Satan." "I wouldn't go spreading rumors like that. They may lock you up in an insane asylum if you start throwing around accusations that a prominent business man is the devil." "That's why I'm on a quest. A quest to prove what he told me. Wanna join me?" "NO!" "Why not?" "Because it's not possible." "Help me and I'll prove that it is." Across the floor sat Jack, he looked at Kent and Josh from over his menu. He had a tremendous grin on his face. ... The cafe was ready. All it needed were the patrons. Jack was cleaning the cappuccino machine. He had large size mugs hanging above the bar. Nicole entered. She was looking for her boyfriend. "Hello Nicole," Jack said jovially. "Is Joey here, Mr. North?" "No, but I was just about to try my new machine. Want a cup?" "Sure." Jack began to make two cups of cappuccino. She was happy. She walked around the cafe, looking at the computers. Jack watched her. She sat down at one. Jack waved his hand and a series of flashing lights came on the screen. She was mesmerized. Hypnotized. Jack approached. "Nicole. Do you remember what you're supposed to remember when I say the magic word?" "Yes." "When you do, you will remember the person who told you this information. The person who saw Patrick and Joey making their passionate love together. When asked who told you, you utter the name Josh Atkins. Can you say that name, Nicole?" "Josh Atkins." "Good." Jack waved his hand at the computer screen and it went black. Nicole blinked. "What happened?" "Your coffee, my dear." "Oh -- oh okay." ... IT'S PARTY TIME! At 7:30 North Cybercafe was crowded for the grand opening party. Joey and Patrick were working the room, helping people out on the computers. Jack was behind the coffee bar, making espresso drinks and making conversation. There was a table where Nicole and Amy sat. Nicole had no idea how much in common she had with Amy. "When's the wedding?" "In the fall. We have to plan it still. Adam and I have to save too. Adam's moving here permanently and will have to find steady work. Are you and Joey going to tie the knot?" "Eventually. We love each other, but our relationship's still young." Kent and Augie entered. Cooper was at the diner still, but would be by later in the evening. "So, Roy was good?" Kent asked. "I don't kiss and tell." Kent laughed. He seemed to be doing that a lot today. "Maybe I should introduce you so you can find out for yourself." "No thanks. I told you Augie, I'm here to escape Alyssa, not to meet men." "Yeah, whatever." They entered the party. STAY TUNED FOR THE EXCITING SEASON II FINALE, TO BE POSTED ON MONDAY FEBRUARY 16, 1998.
