Caleb Chapter 34 The next morning, Caleb was greeted with a high five by Jerry, then a fist bump by Graeme who had come to the house rather than waiting at the corner for the group. But Mark pulled Caleb into a hug and would have kissed him had it not been for the fact that he was not sure if Judy might be watching and that they were outside in full view of any passers-by. When they got to the school and began to split up to go to their various first classes, Caleb got pulled into another hug as Jasmine greeted him with far more familiarity and enthusiasm than she had before. Graeme's eyes opened wide and as soon as he had a chance he asked, "What's got into Jasmine this morning?" "Maybe it's what got into her yesterday." Caleb responded and left it at that; as they entered the classroom it was to find their teacher already in the class, demanding they pay attention to her. When they got together for their first break, Ronnie raised the idea of having a sleepover at the weekend and asked if any of the others would like to be there. "I would, but I have to be at home to look after Sheils, sorry." Caleb said. "I understand. I wish you could bring Sheila with you because she's really cool." Ronnie said. Most of the others said they would be interested so Ronnie promised to start working on his parents to bring it about. Despite his best efforts he was not able to get them to agree to it for that weekend but they were willing to consider it for a later date. This meant that Ronnie had to settle with arranging to meet up with Graeme in town again on the Saturday. After a telephone discussion between their two mothers, they agreed for Ronnie and Graeme to meet at the mall and spend some time in the shops before getting themselves something to eat and then going on to an evening film in the cinema complex. Ronnie's mother agreed to pick them up from the cinema and drop Graeme off at his home. Ronnie was grateful to his mother because it took some persuading of Graeme's mother, by her, to allow that to happen. She gave Ronnie a stern admonishment to be very careful and not mess things up as she doubted she could persuade Graeme's mother a second time if things went bad. If Mrs. StJohn had seen what went on in the dimmed lights of the cinema she definitely would have entertained strong thoughts about moving Graeme to a different school, let alone not letting him out with Ronnie again. And that was with both boys' flies staying done up the whole time. Neither of them felt they could risk more than some good feeling of the other's nether regions through their clothing. Nevertheless, both boys knew in their hearts and minds that this was the way they wanted to lean and that they had some stronger feelings towards each other than towards any other boys. While they waited for Ronnie's mum to pick them up they had a quiet conversation where they agreed that the next time they had the opportunity to go out together they would leave their underwear at home. Neither boy thinking far enough ahead to consider that they used their underwear to help hold their boners down to keep them less noticeable as well as to soak up most of the pre-cum they might leak in the type of situation they were aiming for. Inspector Gavin Clarke was able to give the Cobbs four days advance notice of his intention to drop around late one afternoon to interview as many of the ones who had been in the factory building as could be present. With the notice, and understanding parents, this meant that the Cobbs had quite a houseful for a few hours. Judy was at work which meant that Sheila also had to be there. A fact that neither Jerry nor Sheila were upset about. But in addition to Caleb, all the other boys with the exception of Graeme, who had not admitted to his overbearing mother that he had been involved in any way, were there along with at least one parent. Also Colin had arranged for his solicitor to be present as an advisor and Gavin had brought Constable Meyers with him. Constable Meyers wanted to progress into the investigation side of police work and he and Gavin got on quite well. During the questioning time, the inevitable question arose as to why they had gone into the factory in the first place. When Jerry began to suggest that it was purely out of curiosity, Ewan's father interrupted and told his son to, "tell the inspector the true reason you went into the place." The boys all looked at each other first and then nodded their agreement so Ewan spoke up and told the story about the two girls and how they tricked some guys with the promise of sex into being tortured to help them get off. He then explained how the others had found out and come up with a plan to teach the girls a lesson. Some of the parents listened with open mouths when the truth started to come out for that part of the visit to the factory had not been disclosed to them. "Do you have any proof of what they did to you?" Gavin Clarke asked. "I've got the scars where they burned me with the electrodes." Ewan answered and lifted his shirt to show the burn marks under his nipples. He was not sure if he would be willing to let anyone see the burn mark on his scrotum, so didn't mention its existence. "They had a lot of vid on their phones but I deleted it and scrambled their sim cards so that they couldn't use it to blackmail their victims any more." Jerry said. "But I did get a bit of them with one of the victims which I still have, but I think I could be in trouble for having something like that in my possession." "You had those flash drives in your possession too and haven't got into trouble for it because you gave it over to the authorities and did not use it for your own gain in any way. We could probably classify the video you've got in the same way. Can you let me see it, please?" "I took it on my phone but then transferred it to a flash drive because I didn't want to risk anyone seeing it by mistake on my phone. I'll go and get my laptop." Jerry replied. When he returned, Inspector Clarke asked Ezra to watch the video with them so that if needed he could advise the others accordingly. After watching it, Gavin turned to Jerry and asked, "Why have you kept this sort of thing?" "We've kept it as a threat to the girls that if we find out that they've tricked anyone else after we caught them, we would send the video to everyone in their phone books. You'll see on the drive there is a copy of both of their phone books. I promise you I have not looked at that stuff since I downloaded it off my phone." Jerry said. "Okay, and is this the only copy you have?" Gavin Clarke asked. "Yes. I had to copy it from my phone onto the laptop, but then once I loaded it onto that stick; I deleted it from both my phone and the pc." Jerry assured him. "And I'm guessing that we would not be too far from the truth to guess that the girl who informed the police about the trespassing on the factory premises would be one of these two." Ezra Rabinowitz suggested. "Let's just say, that I would not bet against it." Gavin said. "I'm going to take this stick into evidence and will give you a receipt for it. You do not need to let those girls know that the evidence you have been holding against them is no longer in your possession. In fact I would prefer that you don't let them know that we have any knowledge of their deeds. I'm going to pass this onto the same officer who is leading the investigation into the matter of those other flash drives you have handed in to us." "Excuse me sir, would it be okay for me to say something here, please." Constable Meyers asked. "What is it Sean?" Gavin asked. "Well, I've noticed some expressions of shock and amazement on the faces of several of the parents which tells me that they have also learnt some things about their child or children this evening which they had no knowledge of before now. I'm guessing that I'm probably the youngest adult present here and so perhaps a little more in tune with the younger people of today. I would urge you to consider how all of these guys have already shown great courage in owning up to what they have done, even when they thought it was putting them at risk of being punished themselves. While I have no intention of telling you how to treat your children, I would urge you to consider the fact that they have now done the right thing and, I'm sure, have already also learnt some valuable lessons from it." Sean said. "Thank you Constable. Obviously I can't speak for all of us, but I can tell you that my son has been a victim of those two girls and I for one applaud this group for trying to stop the girls from making other boys their victims. I agree they might have gone about it the wrong way; but that's because we can see that from our level of experience and maturity. I have already had a long talk with Ewan about all of this and that is as far as I'm going to take it. But I do appreciate your showing concern for these who have already had some very nervous times and even coming here tonight has been hard for them." Mr Jones said. Allan Smith's father nodded his head and said, "I agree. Yes we need to discuss this with our children but I believe my son has been punished enough by what those girls did to him and it took a lot of courage for him to come and tell me about it" "We do not need to know how you all are going to react to this knowledge. Constable Meyers has given you some thoughts for consideration and that is as far as we are going to go with it. Now I believe that we have gained as much information about the factory trespass as we are ever going to get from all of you and I want to thank you for your openness and honesty about it. Even though your descriptions of others you might have seen in the area are vague, I can tell you that one person whom we have an interest in has been described by a couple of you. This is the value of you all telling us what you have seen because each of those descriptions on their own would not be enough to use, but together they complete the picture." Inspector Clarke said. "Now I believe from what I've seen and heard that all of you guys are pretty decent teens and I know I would be proud to have you as my son or daughter. But please can I ask you that if there ever is a next time, you speak to your parents and get them to help you bring the matter to the police who have a lot of training and experts to help resolve these things properly and, dare I say it, legally. And I think you have seen by the way your parents have supported you, they will help you, no matter how ancient and out of touch you might think they are." Gavin and Sean took their leave of the group and after they had gone, Ezra called for everyone's attention. "If you would be so kind as to let me say a few words, and then I will be willing to try and answer any questions you might have. Firstly, this sort of situation is not my speciality in law, but I do have a bit of knowledge and have been able to seek some advice from colleagues who are specialised in this. I also have been able to keep in touch because Inspector Clarke and I have a good working relationship; and I believe I can get more response out of the police through that than perhaps some others could. I can tell you that the owners of the factory building your children entered have already stated in writing that they have no intention or interest in bringing any form of proceedings against them. As they point out, the children have actually not done any damage themselves, and also the buildings are going to be demolished in due course anyway. So in their opinion apart from the trespass these young folk have done nothing wrong. I can also tell you that the police are not going to pursue anything of that nature either. "The matter of these two girls, I can't speak on as tonight was the first I learnt of it, but again, I doubt that there will be any repercussions come out of it. I would think that the girl's parents would want their role in the matter kept as quiet as possible and if they were going to bring something against this group, they would have to reveal the root cause which would be far more embarrassing for them. Certainly, if something did arise and I were asked to lead a defence, that is one form of leverage I would use against them. The other matter of the secret box and its contents, well there are no charges to bring against anyone present here and the police have that well in hand too. Finally, when Colin first asked me to assist in this case, I agreed to under our normal terms. However, having met some of these great young folk and seeing how brave they have been in doing the right thing, I have had a discussion with my partners and we are agreed that I and any of them who might be needed will handle this matter pro-bono. I would like to give each family represented here my card and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in contact. Now are there any questions?" "Yes, we thank you that you have taken this matter on pro-bono, but what if the families of those two girls do bring some form of action against our children, what do we do then?" Mr. Jones asked. "You use this card and you call me. I'll look into the matter first at no charge and then advise accordingly. As I said this is not my field of expertise and I would probably point you in the direction of one of my colleagues. Clearly I cannot guarantee that they would be willing to do it for free. However, as I've said, I very much doubt that either of those two girls families would want to pursue this through legal channels. And I would think that any hint of public exposure would see them clam up and try to forget it." Ezra told him. "Have you heard how the girl involved in the other flash drives is doing?" Caleb asked. "I haven't had any direct contact with her or her family. I understand that she is having some counselling arranged for her and also some protection. Other than that I can't tell you anything. I'm afraid, it is not my place to even ask about her, so sorry, I know that doesn't help much." Ezra told them. "We haven't seen anything on the news about it either." Jerry said. "Again, I don't know the details, but I do know that it is standard police procedure to gag the media on a matter like this because of the depth of the investigation they have to make. You'd be surprised at how much the police do that never gets into the press." "Thank you, sir. We appreciate your help." Ewan had stood up to say that and his father standing a little way behind him, was beaming with pride because that had come completely without any prompting from an adult. "I can't say I like the situation, but it has been my pleasure to be able to help you all. It is refreshing to see that we still have young people who do the right thing. That's another thing that seldom gets into the press too. And if there is nothing else, I will take my leave of you and let you all get on with whatever you have planned." Ezra finished up and made a round of the adults present, giving each of them his card. He was fairly confident that at least one of the other families would come to use his law firm sometime in the future. After Ezra had left Amelia offered another round of refreshments and invited the others to stay so that that all could get better acquainted. One of the other parents suggested that they all chip in and send out for some takeaways to be delivered in. "We didn't bring any money with us so don't order for Sheila or me. I'll need to go home and make our tea anyway or there won't be anything for mum when she gets home from work." Caleb said. "I don't think that would be right or fair, young man. No you stay with us and we'll just order enough for you to have some to take home for your mum." Mark's father said. "And we'll also run you home so that you don't have to push that chair in the dark." Sheila got in quickly before Caleb could come up with another excuse, "Thank you Mr. Miller. I'm sure mum would appreciate having something different to what Caleb would have been able to make." "Well there are the places off the roundabout which if they can't deliver are only a few minutes away and I can run up there and get our order if we phone it in." Simon's father suggested. "KFC bargain buckets would probably be the easiest to do." Ronnie's mother said. "Why don't you gentlemen sort that out and us ladies will go in the kitchen and help get some drinks ready." There was a little bit of discussion as to how much to order and Colin went off to a quieter part of the house to make the call. He returned to tell the group that they had been told it would all be ready in half an hour for collection as delivery would take at least an hour and half because of how busy they were with deliveries. The teen section of the group were about to go outside and chill (literally, as it was not very warm outdoors) until the food arrived but Ewan's father asked them to stay with the adults. "You have all acted in a very responsible way with these goings on. I'd like the chance to get know each of you better and find out how you all fit together because there is quite an age range in this group. I know this might be a tad late in our proceedings, but perhaps we could all just introduce ourselves to the group and say a little bit about us." Mr. Jones said. There was a general nodding of heads and then as no one said anything Mr. Jones said, "I'll start. I'm Ewan's father and we all know that Ewan was one of the girls' victims. I'm one of those boring accountants who sit at a desk and work with numbers all day. I'm very proud of Ewan and thank you all for helping him get out of the mess those girls put him in. Ewan, you go next." Ewan stood up and said, "I'm Ewan and I'm in the same year as Jerry, Allan, Simon and Ronnie and those two bitches. I'm also thankful to Jerry and his team for what they did to help us even when we were not really friends. But I'm really glad that now we are friends." One by one an adult or a teen stood up and introduced themselves. Eventually it got round to just Caleb and Sheila being left. Caleb stood up and said, "I'm Caleb and I'm the second youngest in our group, but the youngest one here, today. I got involved because I got ganged up against but the gang didn't win. This beautiful girl here is Sheila and she's the best sister a guy could wish for. Our mum is Judy but she's at work because she can only go to work when I can be home to help Sheila." "And I'm the luckiest girl in the world. I have a wonderful mum who works very hard to support us two. And I have a brilliant brother. The solver of the box who takes great care of me and introduced me to another great guy who has helped to make our lives that little bit different." Sheila said. Her comments making both Caleb and Jerry blush slightly. As Jerry was holding Sheila's hand while she spoke there was no doubting who the other `great guy' was. "By the way, Caleb beat the gang because he showed them a better way to get what they wanted." Mark added. "He also taught the gang to think more carefully when deciding what they wanted." Ronnie said. "This sounds a bit like `out of the mouths of babes'," Mark's father said. "Oh he is a babe alright." Another voice said, causing a certain parent couple to open their mouths in surprise.
