Erik had already woken up and had wrapped the blanket around Murali's body. It was nearly 11 and he couldn't believe he slept that long. Doing his morning rituals, he wondered where Erik was. As he headed down the stairs, the nostalgic aroma of food hit his nostrils and dishes were clinked as they were placed on the table. Murali heard Erik speaking to someone and poked his head around the corner, Erik held a phone between his ear and shoulder as he set the table. His back was turned and Murali attempted to listen in. "Posso io parlare con Marjanu? Grazie. Oh Ciao mio fratello! Faresti una cosa per me? Puoi tu fare una prenotazione alle sei per mia famiglia? Quanti gente? Ahm Nove. Sì Sì io le parlerò. Io sono una tale pena? hahaha sì sì non vedo l'ora di vederti! (Can I talk with Marjanu? Thanks. Oh hello my brother! Will ya do something for me? Can you make a reservation for my family at six? How many people? Ahm Nine. Yeah Yeah I'll talk to you. I'm a pain? hahaha Yeah yeah can't wait to see ya!)." Erik chuckled again and hung up the phone. "It's not polite to eavesdrop Murali." Erik said and Murali jumped. "I'm sorry." Murali walked into the kitchen. "Don't worry about it, just be quieter next time. I heard ya going down the stairs." Erik smiled and kissed his cheek. "Where is everyone?" "Your parents and sister went with my dad to tour the city, so it's just us." "So what do you want to do? " Murali hoped for the best. "I was thinking of spending the day with ya, it seems like we've had our share of relationship troubles. I have a lot of places we can go to." "What do you have in mind?" "Well I packed a picnic, maybe we can go to the lakeshore. After do some shopping and perhaps more." "That would be great." Murali ate breakfast and changed into decent clothes, he was glad that he had Erik to himself at last. Lately it seems that each day was spent with someone outside their relationship. He didn't necessarily mind it but he felt it had taken away from their time together. Erik was waiting in the car and Murali joined him in the front. Giving him a charming smile, Erik backed up and began driving to their destination. They arrived at the lake within a half hour and Erik grabbed the basket from the back. "Follow me, I got a private place." Erik winked and urged Murali to follow. They arrived at a thick collection of trees forming an enclosure, branches intertwined forming a canopy and a single opening faced the blue surface. To get in and out , Murali and Erik had to go between a crevice between the two largest trees. Spreading the blanket and laying the basket on top, Erik patted for Murali to sit next to him. There was a slight breeze and Erik's sweet scent carried. Murali sat and Erik handed him a plate, they had quite a spread going. Erik had taken a lot of time to prepare. "Ya know back in Malta, there was a place where everyone used to go. We would sit on ledge and watch the sea crash against the rocks. I wanted to give ya the same experience." Erik began unwrapping the first dish. "Why did you stay here?" "Well I wanted to see something new, sometimes I regret staying. I must admit the European in me is homesick. But then I remember something that makes me feel a little better about staying?" "What?" Erik chuckled "You. If I hadn't stayed I would have never met ya." Murali felt his face blush "Thank you." "Meta ddahhal ic-curkett tat-tieg, tghaddas rasek ghal kull m'hu mehtieg." Erik muttered to himself and served Murali a plate. "What was that?" Murali looked at him with a confused expression. "Once you put on a wedding ring you must submit to all that is necessary. It's an old proverb." "Are you worried?" Murali asked with his heart sinking slightly. "A little." Erik sighed and passed Murali a plate of food. "It looks good." "Grazzi." Silence fell and Murali felt a surge of urgency to break it. The food was quite delicious and Murali couldn't help but stuff his face. Erik ate modestly and Murali placed his hand on Erik's thigh. Erik gave a shy smile and gently clasped his hand with Murali's. "Do ya like the food?" "It's very good." "Thanks a lot , it took me awhile." "You look tired. Here lay your head in my lap." "Thanks Murali." Erik placed his plate in the basket and gently laid down so he looked up at Murali. Murali looked down at the handsome face, the hazel eyes struggling to stay open. Erik's body was warm and comforting, there was something about the place that made it relaxing. Birds sang in the trees above and Murali felt his hand glide down Erik's chest. That woke Erik from his light slumber, Erik sat up and embraced Murali. Lips pressed against his neck. "How about we go shopping now? We pretty much cleaned the plates, so they should be fine." "Can we get ice cream?" Erik's brow raised "You're such a kid, haha it will be my treat alright?" They spent the next few hours window shopping, Erik gazed at Murali with a curious expression as he downed his third cone. Arriving at the cafe, they were greeted by a relieved Alphonse. Alphonse went out of his way to give them a corner booth, and took the order himself. "Eet eez good you visited me. I 'ope you two are 'aving a good day together." When Alphonse left Erik still had that strange expression. "What is the matter?" "You have ice cream on your face." Erik smirked. "Where?" Murali attempted to find it with his fingers. "Hold on, I'll get it." Erik stood and sat next to Murali. Taking a napkin, Erik gently patted his upper lip. "Thank you." "Your welcome." Their order arrived and Alphonse told them to have a great day. Murali carried the coffees as they headed back to the car. Murali constantly saw Erik looking at his watch as they drove home. They pulled into the drive way and Erik smiled broadly at Murali. "Hey I got a surprise. Were meeting my missier at Ir-Rahal for dinner!" Erik smiled broadly "Ir Rahal?" Murali had seen the building before but never went inside. "It's a Maltese restaurant owned by family friends. Let me go get changed alright?" Erik got out of the car and ran into the house. Murali twiddled his thumbs and waited pateintly for Erik returned. He heard footsteps sooner than he thought and saw a crest fallen Erik. Car keys were placed into his lap. Murali looked up into the hazel eyes, Erik ruffled his head affectionately. Leaning down, Erik gently kissed his cheek. "Bad news Murali, Cecil left a voice mail. I'm needed at the station, can you go by yourself?" "Yes, I guess.." "Sorry, maybe next time alright. Go have fun with my missier and your parents. Tell Sal I said hi for me will ya?" "Yeah I will. But are you sure you can't go?" "Yeah, there really busy at the station." "Alright..." Erik ran his hand down his cheek "I'll make it up to ya." Murali nodded "See you later." Murali slid over onto the driver's side and turned on the car. With a last glance at Erik , he waved good bye and drove off. _________________ Erik's father awaited him as Murali entered the restaurant. It was decorated rather elegantly, french doors were opened in greeting and aromas tickled at his nostrils. A Maltese flag alongside Italy's hung above the doors, family tables rested in the front and two private rooms were on either side. Erik's father placed a hand lovingly over his shoulder as they walked. Murali couldn't help but admire the various family photographs and awards on the wall. They entered a decently sized private room , and he was greeted by familiar faces. His mother and father smiled warmly and Salvador patted the seat to his left. Most of them had already begun eating, Murali felt guilt about being late. Sitting, he was given a menu ,and Erik's father patted his shoulder. Lavanya giggled at his expression. "Do you need help ordering?" Murali gazed at the Maltese text" What do you like ?" "My friend owns this restaurant, so everything is good. Have you had rabbit before? It's delicious." "How about Timpana is that good?" Erik's father laughed."It is basically Maltese lasagna. It is very good." A waiter had arrived and Murali passed the menu " A Timpana please." The waiter nodded and went off to the kitchen. Murali was not expecting the food to arrive fast but it came with ten minutes. As he took his first bite, he was taken to heaven. The chef was well versed in spices and the cheese oozed with every bite. The pasta was soft and filled with a combination of ricota and chicken. Erik's father gazed at him with curiosity. "So what is the verdict?" Murali swallowed "It is very good." Everyone laughed and his father nodded in agreement. Salvador took a sip of his sangria to stop choking, and the meal went on. Murali couldn't help but clean his plate, the flavors were compliments of one another. A waiter refilled their glasses , Murali was about to take a sip when an alarmed blared. The hostess ran in with a panicked look and relaxed before speaking. "I am sorry, there has been a fire reported in the building. I have to ask you to clear out." The hostess pointed to the front door. The hostess led them and several other customers into the parking lot. Other employees also joined the collection of people. A fire engine pulled into the lot, the sirens were deafening and several men jumped down from the truck. Murali covered his ears and the sirens suddenly ceased, he looked to see that the firefighters formed a line. He looked back and realized that his companions and other customers formed a circle with the firemen. A single fireman walked out to Murali. Confusion welled in his mind , he could only see the fireman's hazel eyes. His lover's eyes. "Murali Khan?" Murali smiled "Yes?" The fireman removed his mask revealing Erik's handsome face "Murali, I met ya in the gym of all places. You were sweet and shy, always considerate. The day that you professed your love for me was a shock, but I couldn't help but love you back. You have helped me and given me tribulations. You stayed with me in Malta when my grandmother died. Then ya broke my heart. I had to muster the strength to fly across the world to find ya. Today I had to throw ya off the trail and get the courage to ask this." Erik kneeled on one knee and removed a small box from the inside of his pocket. Murali couldn't help but begin crying with joy , Erik smiled in comfort. "Murali?" Murali wiped his tears "Yes?" "Will you marry me?" "Yes yes, a thousand times yes." Murali responded through sobs. Erik grabbed his hand and placed a ring upon his finger. As Murali looked down he saw a golden band, a single sapphire rested in a flower made of shimmering diamonds. Applause erupted and he received a loving embrace from his sexy fireman. They were joined by Erik's friends and his family. Erik's father wiped a tear from his eye, his parents were jumping into each others arms in happiness. Lavanya of course was bawling her eyes ou and Salvador smiled at him. "I am yours and you are mine." Erik whispered into his ear. "Shall we get plans going?" "Of course hahaha but first I need to eat, I'm hungry." Erik kissed him hard. _________ End of Chapter XIII It is almost the end for our leading men. Opinions and feedback should be sent to my email.
