Mark Stevens CHAPTER TWO "Why in the world would I want to move out of my home?" The question was asked by Catherine Williams as she looked around the table. Britt and Devon, along with Alice, had invited her to have dinner with them at a local restaurant in Porterville. Britt gave his mother what he hoped was a winning smile. "We'd like to have our mother near us," he said. Catherine turned to Alice. "Did you know anything about this preposterous idea?" Alice appeared somewhat embarrassed. "I did." Her face turned red. Catherine quickly reached over and covered Alice's hand with her own. "My dear, you have nothing to be embarrassed about." She turned to her son. "You, on the other hand, you should know better than to suggest something like this." "Sorry, Mom." Britt tried a different approach. "I just worry about you living alone. All of us do." Catherine sat up straighter in her chair. "You have nothing to worry about," she assured him. Devon looked across the table at Mrs. Williams. He loved her like a mother as well. "Catherine, we really do need you. If it's privacy you want, that wouldn't be a problem. You could have your own apartment in the mansion, and we'd never see you." Catherine's shoulders suddenly relaxed. "I appreciate your offer. I really do," she added. "However, I love my home. I've lived there almost fifty years, and frankly I am not ready to let go of it." Alice gave the woman a tender smile. "We understand, Catherine," she said. Devon smiled at the woman and said, "Forgive me, Catherine. I made a mistake." Catherine turned to her son. "Thank you, Britt, but I assure you, I am quite capable of living by myself. I'll deal with you later," she added giving him a typical "mother look". Devon turned to his partner and grinned. "I think you're in trouble." "I think you're right. It wasn't even my idea," he told his mother. Their food arrived at that moment. "Everything is settled," Catherine said with a smile. "Let's enjoy our meal. I appreciate your generous offer, but I graciously decline." About half way through their meal, Alice said, "That's peculiar." "What is?" her brother asked. Alice looked across the room. "My renter is sitting over there." "What's peculiar about that?" Britt asked. "I'm sure she eats, same as we do." "She told me she was new in town and didn't know anyone," Alice replied. The woman Alice had identified as her renter was sitting across the table from an older gentleman. The man didn't appear to be happy sharing his table with an attractive young lady. "Looks as if she knows one person in town," Britt remarked. "I don't believe I know the man," Devon said with a shake of his head. "I do," Catherine spoke softly. "His name is Joe Thomas. If I'm not mistaken, he's the custodian at the elementary school." "Well, that explains everything," Devon said. "She knows him from the school." Britt eyed the teacher and custodian intently. Then he said, "Maybe; maybe not. What would bring the two of them together? Look at them. He's old enough to be her father." "Maybe Mr. Thomas likes younger women," Devon grinned. Britt turned to his mother and asked, "Is the man married?" Catherine shook her head. "His wife died a couple years back." "They certainly seem to be having a serious talk," Alice noticed. "I think we should finish our meal," Catherine told them. She gave Devon a smile. "I baked your favorite cobbler this afternoon. That is, if you're interested." "Oh, I'm definitely interested." He pushed his plate to the side. "In fact, I'm so interested I'm not going to fill up on food." A short time later Devon settled their bill, and they headed to the front of the restaurant. In doing so, they had to pass by the table where Alice's renter and the school custodian sat. Alice stopped when she reached the table. "It's nice to see you, Miss Abbott," she greeted. The woman was caught by surprise. Alice's sudden appearance appeared to startle her. Then quick to recover, she smiled. "Alice, how nice to see you. Please. You must call me Susan." Alice introduced Devon to the woman. "I'm pleased to meet you, Miss Abbott." Devon reached for the woman's hand. "The pleasure is all mine," Susan purred. Alice introduced Britt as her brother's partner. Susan Abbott let her eyes remain on Britt for a moment. Then she said, "Ah, yes, the author." Britt was surprised. "Who's been talking to you about me?" he asked. "At my interview a couple of the teachers mentioned that you had recently moved back to Porterville." Alice's renter hadn't offered to introduce the man sitting at her table. She acted as if she were alone. It was finally Britt's mother who spoke to the man. "It's Mr. Thomas, isn't it?" she asked looking at the man. "How are you, Mrs. Williams?" "Do you still work for the school?" she asked him. "I do," the man answered. Susan Abbott spoke up, saying, "Mr. Thomas has offered to help me with my room at school." "That's very kind of you." Catherine gave the gentleman a warm smile. Joe Thomas' reply was a shrug. "The room wasn't used as a classroom last year. There's a lot for her to do before school begins." Silence settled around them leaving a feeling of awkwardness. Alice told her renter goodbye, and the others followed her out of the restaurant. Outside Britt said, "Talk about awkward." "I think it was sweet the man offered to take Miss Abbott to dinner," Catherine remarked. "I think I agree with Britt," Devon spoke up. "Something seems a bit off with that situation." Alice took hold of her brother's hand and pulled him toward their vehicle. "I'm ready for some of Catherine's delicious cobbler." "Nothing awkward about that, is there?" Britt's eyes held a twinkle as he spoke. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Friday evening Britt and Devon went out for dinner. Brian Poteet and Alice had a date, so the two men decided to follow their dinner with an evening at the Fox Den, a local nightspot in Porterville. In fact, that was where Britt had first met Devon McKenzie. With Britt driving, the two made their way downtown. Their favorite place to eat was in the town square located in the middle of Porterville's business district. They had been discussing their day when Britt made a sudden turn. "I thought we were eating downtown," Devon spoke up. "We are. I want to take a side trip first." Devon was silent as he watched the road in front of them. He finally realized where Britt was heading. "You're driving by Alice's house, aren't you?" Britt nodded. "I'll admit, I'm a bit curious." "About what? I'm sure the house looks the same as it did when Alice lived there," Devon told him. When Britt turned onto the street where Alice's house was located, he slowed down and drove slowly along the road. When he reached the Cooper house, he pulled to the side of the street and brought his car to a halt. "Looks like Miss Abbott has company," Britt said indicating a blue Ford truck parked in the driveway. "It would seem that Alice's renter may know several people in town," Devon decided. "I think you're right," Britt agreed. As the two men sat in the car, the door to Alice's house suddenly opened, and a man hurried down the steps. He walked rather briskly, as if he was in a hurry to leave. When Britt recognized Susan Abbott's visitor, he said, "I had an idea that truck might belong to the man." "Joe Thomas," Devon remarked. They watched as the school custodian backed his truck into the street, and with a squeal of tires, disappeared from sight. "He seemed awfully damned anxious to leave," Britt said thoughtfully. "He certainly did," Devon agreed. "You want to follow him?" Devon shook his head. "Don't think we'd learn a thing. The man's probably heading home. I'm sure there's nothing secretive about where he lives." Britt thought the same thing, so rather than taking off after Thomas, he drove them to the restaurant. An hour later they were on their way to the Fox Den. When Britt pulled into the parking lot, Devon tapped him on the shoulder. "This is the first time we've been back," he reminded. "Certainly seems longer than a year, doesn't it?" Devon gave a nod and said, "A lot has changed." Britt smiled and said, "Mostly for the good I think." As the two men stepped from the car, Devon said, "Are you ready to go slumming?" "Hey, is that any way to refer to the place where we first met?" Britt pretended to be crushed by his lover's words. "Come on, let's party!" They stepped inside the bar and headed for a table. There were several empty ones to choose from. "I guess it's still early in the evening," Britt told Devon. "Give the place a couple of hours, and I'm pretty sure things will pick up." They ordered beer and settled back to enjoy their evening. A bit later, as they were enjoying a second bottle, a couple approached their table. Devon was the first to speak. "Hey, you two. Care to join us?" Ronald James worked for Devon's company, Porter Textile. His partner, Marty Wilcox, was a doctor on staff at Porterville Hospital. Several years back Ron and Devon had dated briefly, but nothing permanent had come from the relationship. The two remained good friends. "Please, have a seat," Britt invited. He knew the two men fairly well. Both had played an important part in helping him solve a mystery concerning Devon's family. "It's been a while," Marty said pulling out a chair. Ron took a seat beside his partner. "You guys come here often?" he asked. "Actually, this is where Britt and I met," Devon answered. "However, this is the first time we've been back." "How about you guys?" Britt asked. "Oh, we come now and then," Marty said. "When he can manage some time off," Ron added. Marty turned to Britt and asked, "Are you glad to be living back in Porterville?" "I am," Britt answered the doctor. "I still have my house in the City. It's nice to have a place to land when we hit town," he added. "Which will be more often after the first of the year," Devon added. "What happens then?" Ron asked. "We're going to purchase season tickets this year for the Lyric." "They have an excellent roster of plays next year," Devon supplied. "Ron and I have talked about it. We've just never made good our intentions," Marty ended. "If you ever do, know that you have a place to stay while you're in town," Britt said. "We have a guest room, and it's always made up and ready." "We'll keep that in mind," both men assured him. Marty and Ron's drinks arrived, and the four sat back, ready to enjoy their evening. "You couldn't talk Alice into coming with you guys?" Ron asked. "I think she would rather spend time with Brian Poteet," Devon answered. Ron looked surprised. "Poteet the police officer?" Devon nodded. "It appears the two think highly of each other." "Brian's a good guy," Britt pointed out. "He'd better damn well be," Devon declared. Marty grinned and said, "Ah, the protective brother." "Alice and I spent a lot of years not knowing about each other. I feel I owe everything to her. Especially after what the people I thought to be my family did to her." "Alice is very lucky to have you for a brother," Ron praised. Britt raised his bottle and said, "The four of us are lucky, too. I know that I am," he added giving Devon a smile. "Lets have a toast." They shared their toast and were in the middle of ordering more drinks when Britt's face showed surprise. "I'll be damned! Look who just came through the door," he said turning to Devon. Susan Abbott was walking into the bar, followed by a man not much older than her. "Who the hell is that?" Ron asked. "Susan Abbott," Britt supplied. "Fourth grade teacher at Madison and the person renting Alice's house," Devon added. Marty stared for a time at the woman, watching as she and the young man took seats at a nearby table. He turned to Ron and grinned. "I'm gay, no doubt about it. But gentlemen, let me tell you, that's a lady who, if it were possible, could make me straight as an arrow." "I've heard there are some guys who travel both ways," Devon teased. Marty reached over and gave Ron's hand a squeeze. "I'm sure you're right; however, I can assure you, I am definitely not one of those species." Britt eyed the school teacher sharply and said, "I'm not so sure the term `lady' fits Alice's renter." "Does anyone recognize the guy she's with?" Devon asked. It was Marty Wilcox who answered. "He's also a teacher at Madison. His name's Charlie Rogers." "She seems to be making friends around town rather quickly," Devon remarked. "At least people connected with the school system," Britt decided. "Do you know much about him, Marty?" Devon asked. Doctor Marty Wilcox shook his head. "Not much," he answered. "He came to me a couple of times for a physical. Other than that, I don't know a thing about him." Britt couldn't resist teasing the doctor. "If you've seen the man in that capacity two separate times, something tells me you know quite a bit about the man." "Yeah, we want details," Devon retorted. "Time to change the subject," Marty laughed. "You're not going to pull that old `doctor/patient' shit are you?" "He's really good keeping confidences," Ron explained. "That's good to know. Should I ever need a physical," Britt added with a grin. "Just bend over," Marty retorted as he made a fist. "I'm quite thorough with all of my exams," he joked. "Lucky you," Devon said giving Ron a big grin. "He is good at what he does," Ron assured them. Around midnight and several drinks later, Britt said, "Look." The others at his table looked in the direction he pointed. Susan Abbott was in the act of leaving. Her date followed closely behind her. "Should we follow them?" Devon asked. Britt shrugged his shoulders. "Why? There's nothing unusual about a woman leaving a bar with a man. Happens all the time," he added. "I always leave with a man," Devon assured him. "I suppose you lead him straight to bed as well," Britt teased. Then he added, "You're such a slut." "You love being with a slut, don't you." It was late, and Britt stood to his feet. "Take me home, slut," he grinned. The four men left the bar and walked to their cars. "This has been fun," Devon said. "Let's do it again real soon." After agreeing to the idea, the two couples got into their vehicles and went their separate ways. Britt assured Devon he was in good condition to drive, and a short time later pulled up in front of the mansion. "I wonder if Alice's home," Devon mused. "She's a big girl," Britt told him. "She can take care of herself." Stepping inside the entryway, they were greeted by the glow of a single lamp sitting on a long narrow table. Giant shadows cast themselves along the walls as they made their way slowly up the stairs. "Are you going to check on Alice?" Britt asked. Devon shook his head. "As you said, she can take care of herself." Britt reached for his lover's hand. "Then let's go to bed. I want to take care of you." "I like the sound of that." The two men hurried to their room and quickly closed the door after them. It didn't take them long to become naked and wrapped in each other's arms. Devon touched Britt's mouth with his lips and began a slow, drawn out kiss. He worked his tongue inside and kissed his lover, feeling his passion mount by the second. Sometime later Britt cried out as Devon slid inside him. A shiver traveled through his body, and he rose up, forcing his lover to push deeper. "Fuck," he cried out. "I'm going to fuck you hard," Devon groaned. Britt was on his back, his legs spread wide. Devon, between them, was lost in emotion as he began grinding against his lover's body. The hair on Britt's body felt good to Devon as he rubbed against the man, his body attacking the love of his life. "God, your cock feels good," Britt moaned. Devon picked up speed and pounded Britt with everything he had in him. The longer he fucked him, the hotter Britt's ass felt to his dick. His balls began rumbling, and Devon realized he was about to shoot his load. "I'm going to explode," he warned. "God, yes! Give me your hot spunk, Babe!" Devon groaned and cried out, "Fuck!" The first rope of cum shot into Britt's ass. "Yes!" Britt reached up and placed his hands, one on each of his lover's cheeks. He pushed the man harder inside him. When Devon's balls had emptied themselves of their cum load, he lowered his body and gave Britt a kiss. "I love you so much, Britt Williams." Feeling Devon on his chest, Britt reached up and ran his fingers through the man's hair. He never doubted his love for the man, but at this very moment the love he felt for Devon went so deep it took his breath way. For a time nothing was in Britt's world except the man who had just filled him with cum. Devon soon brought him back to reality by raising up. "Hey, fuck me," he ordered. Britt's dick was hard and leaking heavily as it dropped a thick strand of pre cum into his pubes. He quickly changed places with Devon, eager to drill the man's ass. Devon fell on his back, and Britt quickly crawled between his legs. It didn't take long to grease the man's ass. After coating his cock with gel, Britt entered Devon's hole. With one shove he was buried balls deep inside Devon. His furry nut sac rested just below the man's hairy entrance. "Oh, yeah, fuck me, Britt! Pound my ass," he cried. Britt fucked him hard. His cock loved the way Devon's ass gripped it. The slippery walls of his lover's butt attacked his cock hungrily and didn't let go until it was ready to shoot its load. Suddenly Britt moaned. "I'm going to blast," he warned. "Give me your load, Babe," Devon moaned. Britt began erupting inside the man, causing his lover to cry out. "God, I love your cum!" Devon breathed. Moments later Britt said, "I'm glad you like my cum. It feels like I shot a lot up you." Devon rose up and kissed Britt on the mouth. Then he said, "Trust me, it's very wet down there." He gave Britt a grin. A short time later Devon said, "I'm really glad that once upon a time you came to Porterville in search of a story." "Are you certain about that?" Britt gave him a skeptical look. "Give me a few moments, and I'll show you how glad I am," Devon assured him. Britt kissed him lightly on the mouth. "Trust me, I know exactly how glad you are. How about a date back here first thing in the morning?" "So, does this mean the honeymoon's over?" Gently pulling the man's hair, Britt said, "After our date in the morning, I'll let you decide that."
