Ronny – my son Gary Foosdorf – my deceased partner Muhammed (Mo) Friend Keyvan and Sohrab, my Persian wards and Michelle, their sister and Mo's wife Colin, Gary's cousin Jake, Colin's husband Chris, Jake's cousin Craig, Chris's partner Seth, Chris's brother Juke, Seth's partner Ashtad, Mo's cousin Emily, Ron's wife Little Brian, Ron's son Jack Smith-Crayson, neighbor to the cousins above Ryan Crayson-Smith, Jack's Husband Guy Overacre, a new friend In chapter 24, Brian was to go surfing with Luke, Ryan and Jack on the Jersey Shore Chapter 25 And so - the next morning, Luke, Ryan, Jack and I left for someplace on the Jersey shore. Ever see a bunch of thirty-somethings acting like teenagers – I mean even more than most gay guys do anyway! We flew to Atlantic City and then drove to the beach where we had reservations at a nearby Hilton. Jack was especially watchful of Ryan's every expression. Indeed, at first, as excited as he was yesterday, Ryan looked – worried? He seemed spooked by the flying. He relaxed as soon as the plane landed. We rented a Suburban and the closer we got to the beach, the more relaxed and almost excited Ryan got. I saw some worry drain out of Jack as well. We got situated in our executive suite, of course Jack and Ryan in one bedroom and Luke and I in the other. There was a bathroom as we entered the door from the hall, and each bedroom had an ensuite bath of its own with hot tub and large shower, plus a TV hung opposite the tub, to watch while soaking. I could get used to this luxury! I actually could have afforded it anyway, but it just never occurred to me. I loved my rural lifestyle. Even when Gary and I travelled, we chose accommodations that were less opulent. We went out to dinner at a very nice seafood restaurant, and even with a lot of hilarious joking around, we made it an early night. I soon realized – well, one reason why: "Sounds like Jack and Ryan are building up some steam over there." Said Luke. We had side-by-side double beds. "Definitely makes me horny!" I was speechless! I didn't expect anything like that to come out of Luke. The next thing he said blew me completely away: "Wanna come over to my bed and have some fun of our own?" I about crapped my jams! "Er – um – I – I – I mean, what – what about - about – Seth?" "Seth told me to get close to you and - " "What? Seth told you WHAT?" "Seth has had – a lot more experience with other guys – than I have." Said Luke almost pathetically. "It's a long story, but he even sent me off with another friend, whom we both trusted, and gave us cart blanche to do any and everything we wanted; even more, actually. Seth actually asked me to video it so we could watch our own porn occasionally. And believe me, we did any and EVERYthing!" "Now wait a - " "Don't freak out, Brian. He only suggested a mutual wank, knowing that in this environment, Jack and Ryan would probably – well, you know, obviously." "Oh!" I said, as if I were relieved. "Um – I just don't know what to say. You know, I've been getting pretty close to Guy, and - " "Don't the noises coming from the other room make you horny too?" "I know – I mean – well, yeah, but - " "Seth was hoping that with our encouragement – obviously they'll hear us too – Ryan may really be able to let t all out." "Oh." I said again. "Um, why do we have to be in the same bed?" "We don't - but I really like you – I think you have probably guessed. And it would be – more - hot – if we were together, our bodies touching – do you think?" "I – um – guess." "C'mon over, Bri.!" A bolt of electricity shot directly from my heart to my genitals when he called me Bri! I jumped over under Luke's covers and it made it nice because he is left-handed and once we got going, he linked arms with me. We were pretty worked up just talking about it. It was obvious that Ryan and Jack were getting close and so we jacked as hard and fast as we could, feeling each others excitement build. When Jack started to cry out, it gave us permission to make more noise, and as Luke and I almost started to climax at the same time, we heard Ryan start his howl. That was it for me! I then roared out my own ecstatic screams, followed closely by Luke, but the next thing completely undid me. Luke let go of my hand, changed to jacking with his right hand and his left hand found my head as he drew me in to a deep, penetrating kiss. For a split second, I was nonplussed, but then I let myself go and kissed him back with all I had! Time stopped, as our still pulsating genitals were giving forth seemingly quarts of slippery semen. When we were finished, after we caught our breath, Luke said that Seth would be salivation to hear the details. He explained to me that Seth wouldn't trust himself to do anything like that, without pressing for more. "So, if I'm understanding you, Luke, you were holding back?" No, I just love my Haole so much that I'd never let it go further than that – at least while he's not here." I decided not to pursue that comment further. I hugged Luke one last time and said, "I better go back to my bed now. Thanks for – for, well I KNOW I'll have some colorful dreams from that!" I chuckled. "I hope you don't mind that I'm going to tell Seth every detail of – what we did." "Even the last part?" I said. "Especially the last part, Haole." Said Luke breathlessly. G'night!" "Nite, Luke." I said. I listened to Luke's breathing get more even and slower until I know he was asleep. I was almost asleep, lost in my own thoughts, when there was a very light tap at our door. I quietly got out of bed and went to the door. In the almost dark I could see Jack's glassy eyes. He beckoned me to the small bathroom. When he closed the door and turned on the light, he couldn't speak for a moment, his eyes overflowing. I was fearful for Ryan until he said. "I'm not quite sure what to say. I'm a bit embarrassed, but mostly – thanks so much for the – the – encouragement you gave us to get wild." I was sure – or maybe it was my fantasy - that he too was going to grab me and kiss me. He didn't! "Did Seth put you guys up to that?" I wasn't sure what or how much to tell him. I said, "Um – yeah." Looking at the floor. "I figured as much. He always seems to know what my Ryan needs. I wish I could give him a big hug and kiss right this moment!" He seemed to be looking at the still wet stain on the front of my jams, and then his eyes came up to my mouth. He seemed to be stuck there momentarily, and then he looked into my eyes. I could swear I could see into his heart. He stepped closer to me, his lips twitching. I was momentarily mesmerized, then as quickly snapped out of it. I stepped back and said, "You're in a very vulnerable place right now, Jack. I'm so happy that Ryan got so much - from – it. Be sure to tell Luke what you told me. He'll know how to tell Seth that – he was - right on." "You get me – don't you, Brian? I mean other than Ryan, you really get me like no one else. Thank you for – being you. I just barely know you and yet - " "I know", I said, "It's as if we've known each other forever!" I offered my right hand. He pulled me into a close hug. "Good night, Bri." We walked back to our respective bedrooms. When I got back into bed, I was wide-awake. I quietly got myself relaxed in the usual way. As I was almost asleep, "He's really is special, isn't he?" Whispered Luke. "Oh yeah", I said in my dreamy sleepiness. I immediately woke up. "OH! We didn't do any - " "I know you didn't, Brian. I know Jack that well." I didn't tell him that it was I who put a stop to - I love waking to the smell of bacon. Luke and Jack were nearly finished preparing bacon, eggs, tomatoes, toast, strawberries and fresh squeezed orange juice by the time I wandered out of the bedroom to the kitchen. "Where did all these things come from? Did you guys go out shopping this morning?" "A good concierge can do anything for regulars. We're not regulars here, but we are to Hilton. The kitchen was stocked as I directed before we arrived." As if not believing, I checked the cabinets and fridge. Even snacks and goodies for any occasion. Luke chucked. Then Jack went in to roust his lover. We heard them argue a little. "Rye, there's not time to dress, breakfast is all ready and we're all in out night clothes!" Actually Jack was the only one in full pajamas. I was still in my stained up sleep shorts and Luke was already in his usual uniform: a skimpy speedo with a sleeveless undershirt. No doubt he knew how good he still looked! I smiled to Ryan as he came out tenuously in his own short PJ's. He smiled back, if somewhat shyly. He too is a very beautiful man! He does have a couple of deep scars, but they seem to only give him character. After breakfast, with the usual joking that we fell into again, the rest of us got our surfing clothes on. I was worried I was going to be overdressed, but when I appeared in my knee-length surfer shorts, everyone else was clad the same! Luke drove us to the place he described and even though he had already told me, I was surprised to see that the minimal surf was coming in at about a 45° angle. The Atlantic Ocean was like glass that morning. I wondered if we could even surf! We all had beat-up, rented boards; Luke's being at least a foot longer than the rest of ours. He almost had to coax me into the water. It was a lot cooler than the Southern California beaches. I shivered a bit. "Maybe tomorrow we'll rent you a wet suit." Said Luke. I felt like a real pussy! "I'll get used to it!" I said, immediately hearing how shallow and proud I was. Luke took me out about 100 yards. By the time we paddled out, I noticed very small ripples coming in at an angle. "Just start paddling, Brian, as soon as the next wave catches up." I did as I was told and it was as if my one time surfing at Seal Beach came back to me all at once. As I felt the little wake moving me I stood up and rode it in – more than 100 yards, because of the 45° angle. It was really nothing, but Luke was laughing and encouraging me all the way. When we stepped off in the barely ankle deep water, he said, "I'll have you riding the bigger ones as soon as the wind comes up. You're a natural!" I knew it was easy for me when I was eighteen, but didn't realize how easily it would come back. "Just like getting back onto a bike after a long time, isn't it?" Laughed Luke. "Still cold, Haoli?" "Hah! Not at all! I said excitedly. We looked and Jack and Ryan were sitting on the beach watching. I was going to say something, but Luke said, "He'll come in when he's ready." And after it warmed up a little and the wind was picking up some, we saw Jack and Ryan getting in the water. They started to slash each other like a couple of kids, laughing and falling into the water. Then they each got on their board. Not lying down like I was doing, but up on their knees like Luke. This time I didn't feel the slightest tinge of pride. I decided when I'm ready I'll do that. I was wishing that Ronny were here with us. He'd love this! Then I thought for sure I saw my sweet Gary waving to me from the beach. Will I never get over him? Probably not. As the afternoon came upon us the waves were picking up; nothing that I couldn't handle. Then I looked further out and the waves were distinctly higher than the ones we were surfing. As I looked back, right into Luke's purple eyes, he yelled to me to stay with the other two and he headed for the outer waves. I rode one more in and I saw Jack and Ryan. "Where did Luke go?" asked Ryan, grinning like I've never seen before. I pointed to the few surfers further out. "See yah, Jackamo!" said Ryan, and he started to paddle out further. "WAIT!" yelled Jack. Ryan paddled back. "I can do this Sweetheart. Stay here and keep your friend company!" And he turned around and started paddling with all he had. "Shit!" Said Jack. "I was worried about this." "Don't you think he can handle them out there?" "He used to. But I'm worried." Said Jack. "D'yah wanna go out and join them?" I asked? "I'll go too!" "Have you ever surfed any waves that big?" "Truth is, I've never surfed anything bigger than these right here. But I do know – from body surfing – that all you have to do is dive under if it's too big. Isn't Ryan an accomplished surfer?" "Yeah, but - " "Those aren't large waves at all – to a real surfer. Lets follow him out!" Either Jack was more powerful in his upper body than I or – he was that worried about Ryan. But I wasn't too far behind. Just as we were coming upon Ryan and Luke they got a wave. Luke stayed back a pace from Ryan – I assume to keep an eye on him. Ryan flew past us, his face full of glee! He waved at Jack and looked strong and sure of himself. Neither Jack nor I were strong surfers – by a long shot, but he started to paddle so I did too and caught the next good wave. I stood right up like I thought I knew how and it felt so great – so free – so exhilarating to be standing atop a wave, looking down about 11 feet to the water below. (my height plus the distance down to the bottom of the wave. Hey I SAID that they were not that big!) I looked over and it seemed as if Jack was having the same experience as I was. We grinned at each other. Gosh, he's beautiful! (Where did that come from?!) It seems like only a few moments and we had caught up with Luke and Ryan standing in the shallow water. Ryan grabbed Jack and hugged him, exclaiming, "See Jackamo? Isn't it great? You looked so sexy standing up on that board!" "We're gonna have to do this some more – a LOT more!" Replied Jack to Ryan, the look of pure love so evident in his eyes. I felt – stupid – because of the conflicting thoughts – the selfish thoughts going through my head. They weren't even really thoughts. They were emotions – of disappointment, even jealousy! I had a special moment on a wave with Jack and I guess my emotions built something up that – "What's wrong Brian? You okay?" Said Luke. I coughed hard and said, "I'm fine. I guess I swallowed some salt water." "Get used to that!" Said Ryan. "It probably won't be the last you'll swallow!" He laughed. I shook off my disgusted feelings and the rest of the day was one of the best since I lost Gary. We rode a few more – but then at Luke's instruction, we waited for a "seventh wave" each time after that. A "seventh wave" actually came about one in seven and was larger than the rest. We had to drag Ryan out of the water (not literally, but he didn't want to stop) for lunch. We ate a leisurely lunch at a surfside sandwich shop. After the exhilaration of the earlier waves kind of wore off, Jack asked Ryan if he wanted to go back out. "Maybe a couple more. I hate this, but I don't think I better push it too much." "I agree. This morning has been great. But it may be good to rest up until tomorrow afternoon." Said Jack. "Oh, I want to get a few more waves in before I - " Jack stood directly in front of Ryan. "You know if you get out there you won't want to come back in. I'm worried you'll over do it." "I'll be fine!" Argued Ryan. I'll know when - " "I think you'll be too excited by the bigger afternoon waves to realize your own exhaustion, Babe. Please – for me – lets go back and take it easy – until tomorrow. We have several days left here. Tomorrow afternoon, you'll be fresh and rested – okay Rye?" Jack was being so sweet, but worry lines creased his forehead. "M – maybe you're right. I'll just layout on the sand and watch you guys. You look so good out there this morning, Jack!" Luke spoke up. "If you lie out in the sun, it can really sap your energy, Ryan. Why don't you take the car back to the room and we'll catch a cab in a couple hours or so." "I'll go back with him." Said Jack. I - " "No! You won't!" Ryan objected. "You stay out here and have fun! You can be Brian's buddy so that Luke won't have to be looking out so much for him. You stay! I'll drive back and rest up. Call me as soon as you're out of the water, and I can whip up some dinner for us." Jack looked between Ryan and me, then at Luke. "Okay, babe: your call. Only let's just go for out to dinner, k?" "Yeah – alright." Said Ryan looking more tired by the moment. "You guys go on out," said Jack. "I'll just walk Ryan to the car and turn in his board." "Okay," said Luke, "Get some rest, Ryan, eh? Love you!" Ryan gave a little wave. I could tell his heart wasn't in it. I think maybe he wasn't too comfortable throwing the "L" word around so lightly. Before going back into the water, Luke said, "Ryan's right about the buddy system, you two. I'll be fine. I'm Hawaiian: the surf IS my buddy! Just watch out for each other. I'll be watching too, but stay close to one another, okay?" The afternoon flew by! The waves got so much bigger. It was scary, but the kind of scary that was exhilarating! We all caught one extra big "giant" wave that we could see coming a long way out. Oh my gosh (!) was I scared – until I was on top of it. Then All I could do was ride it! Adding my height – or where my eyes were, plus the height of the wave, we were looking at about 25 feet down. I looked at Luke and he was watching us all the way. When it got closer to shore and died down quite a bit, Luke pulled out, but Jack and I rode it all the way in. When we stepped off out boards, we were shouting with glee, and grabbed each other in a close hug. "Oh my GOSH, Bri," exuded Jack, "That was almost orgasmic!" He stopped cold and looked into my eyes, nose to nose. I was fantasizing – again - that he was going to kiss me, and maybe he was, but I quickly said, "I was scared shitless for about 2 seconds, until I got up onto the crest of the wave. Lets go back out!" I pushed away from Jack and we paddled back out. After a few more waves, we decided it was time to go back and join Ryan. "That was so cool, watching the two of you catch that big wave!" said Luke. "I only worried for a moment until you were both up and cruising the crest! You're very lucky to have caught that. They are few and far between – maybe once in several weeks. It's doubtful we'll get another that large. Omigosh, how are we gonna tell Ryan that he missed that? He's gonna hate us!" He exuded. Then he saw the look on Jack's face. "You gotta tell him, Jack! That was classic!" As we pulled into the hotel parking lot, there was an ambulance there, lights flashing. We got parked just in time to see the paramedics bringing Ryan out on a stretcher. Jack flew out of the car and ran to his side. "Rye, Rye, what - " there was a stick between his teeth and he was shaking a little. "Do you know this man, Sir?" "He's my husband!" "He called us feeling very nervous, his speech didn't sound quite right. By the time we got into his room he was in the midst of a gran mal seizure. He's quieted down significantly after the shot was gave him. Do you want to ride in the ambulance with us?" Jack looked down at his surfer shorts and he was shirtless. "Do I have time to grab a shirt?" "Be quick!" "I've got one in the car!" I heard him say as he passed me, "Shit! Shit! I should have never let him go by himself!" He ran to the car and pulled out his shirt, shook the sand out of it, hopped in and before they shut the door, he hollered, "I'll call you as soon as we get to the hospital!" Shortly after getting into our suite, Jack called. "He fell asleep on the way to the Hospital." "Should we come up?" said Luke. "Probably not. We won't be here long. Tell you what: I'll call you when we're being released and you pick us up and we'll got out for dinner, K?" "Yeah – okay Jack. Love you!" "Love you too, Luke! Bye" "Wow," I exclaimed, "this is pretty routine, huh?" "Yes – and no." Said Luke. "I suppose Jack might say that, but when Ryan spazzes, it always scares the crap outa me! I'll call Seth and let him know". " – but it always scares me, Seth! "Let Jack, Ryan, and the doctors decide what to do, Luka. I'd like to see him get as much surfing as possible – especially after today. He'll need it to give his confidence back – don't you think, as long as the doc says okay?" "Okay, Haole! I agree and will trust your judgment – and the doctor's." "I miss you Luke." "I know. Love you. And Seth – me and Brian," (I froze!) "we didn't really do – much of anything. Yeah, that's about it. It was uncomfortable – for both of us. Yeah. Bye." I could tell that Luke was still irritated that Seth wouldn't/couldn't come with us. My iPhone rang. I saw it was Guy. I let it go to message. "Phone scammers?" Said Luke. "Guy." I said, and I'm sure my guilt showed all over me. "Sorry, Brian. I shouldn't have pushed you. I'm afraid my gonads were in control. After Seth told me – ere – gave me permission – well, anyway, you're a stand up dude! Sorry. So tonight - ?" I was tickled that he still wanted - - me! "Tonight we should stay in our own bed – okay?" "Oh, yeah, definitely! I guess I'm getting to be a fool in my - " Luke looked supremely embarrassed. And that dark reddish brown color on his face made me drool – inside my mouth! I smiled cutely. "I wouldn't mind another mutual wank – especially if the other two get going again." Now it was my turn to get red! I pushed recall. "Bri? Oh, I'm so glad that you called. I was just – er – wondering how long you – guys – would be gone." "Glad you called, Guy. Shouldn't be more than a couple days. We caught a really giant wave – well, at least for me – and it's been so exciting! "I – um – I'm glad you're having so much fun. I'm jealous really. I'm so bummed that I couldn't go!" It's stupid that I felt so guilty when he said he was jealous! "Listen, Guy, I'll call you just as we are leaving." "Great. Can't wait! Lo – I mean, well, I hope you have some time for me when you get back – I mean, I know you have to spend some time with your cousin and all, but – well you know!" "Yeah me too, Guy! See yah!" I hung up and stood a moment, then sighed. "You like him – um – a lot?" Asked Luke. "I – thought I did." "Oh?" "Um – it's complicated." I said, almost defensively. "It always is – with him." "You never liked him." It wasn't a question. Ignoring that, he said, ,"You really like Jack, Don't you?" "What – NO! – um – what?" "I've seen you looking at him." Busted. He continued. "I've seen him looking at you." That got my attention. "And I've seen him seeing you look at him, too. I don't think Ryan has noticed, for what it's worth." I just gaped at him, mouth open. "Is that what's complicated, haoli?" "What, are you a psychologist too?" I said dryly. "I'm sure some of it has rubbed off on me." "Look, I don't know Jack that well – maybe enough to know – er – suspect that he is totally true to Ryan. I just wonder if I can be that – um –taken – with Jack, how can I be – well I hardly know Guy. But I've grown somewhat close to him, but – WAIT! Do you think that Guy is dating anyone while I'm away?" "Not a chance. He's too desperate. I know that both Jake and Seth think he's okay – and I suppose he is, but – I'm not too sure that he's right for you. I think you're miles apart." "Shit." "What?" Asked Luke. "I guess – I mean – I really hadn't though in those terms, but it's kind of how I was feeling. You just verbalized what I was feeling, I guess." "So – now what?" "I think I want to at least see Guy some more." "How much longer can you stay – back here?" "I can stay for as long as I want. I haven't spent even 15 minutes with Colin. He's the one who invited me here in the first place. But I also don't want to overstay my welcome." "That's not gonna happen, haoli. Besides, when we get back, you can always move your stuff over to Jake's and Colin's. But you don't need to. I love y – I love having you around, and so does Seth. Just don't even give that a thought! As far as we're concerned, you're family." I didn't miss his little slip, buy it's true. I love them too! We surfed another two days, and as promised , I called Guy. "Hey, Brian." "Yeah, it's me and we'll be back tomorrow." Before he could ask, I added. "I need to spend some time catching up with Colin, but we'll be in touch for sure, k?" "Um yeah, about that – um – I have some things to – um - work out. But yeah, do call when you - um – get back – er – no, better let me call you." "Okay, bye then." I said and hung up. "Weird." "What?" Said Luke." "He said he has some `things to work out'." "Maybe he's not as desperate as I thought." Nothing notable happened either on the water or over the last two nights. Both Jack and I just kept getting better and more – was it braver – or something? We also were becoming much better friends, since Luke and Ryan were so much better. Both are expert surfers. So that left me and Jack with a lot of together time. We both thought that we must not be to far related, we were so similar. Everyone was pretty tired our last day. We packed up, and on the next morning, on the plane, we were pretty talkative. The relatively short flight home we talked non-stop – well, except Ryan fell asleep about half way. Colin picked us up at the airport in New Hampshire, and on the two-hour drive back to the Smith compound I sat up with him, and we got reacquainted. He talked quite a bit about Gary, which was very soothing and calming to me. I miss him so, but it was wonderful to talk to someone who, if he didn't know him well, because their differing ages, he knew his family and spoke well about most of them. He told me all about his meeting and courtship with Jake, and what a super family the Smiths have been to him. He assured me that I was part of the "family" now and hoped I felt the same. Back at Jake's and Colin's home, I talked a lot more to both Colin and Jake. Auntie Lindy and Uncle Jake assured me the same as Colin had, to consider them family. Both Colin and Jake worked from home, so their time was somewhat flexible. But I did get back over to see Luke and Seth, and I saw Jack there too. There was always an almost uncomfortably warm feeling between us. I didn't hear from Guy. I texted him that I was leaving the next morning, and he texted back to keep in touch. Keep in touch? Not much chance of that as I saw it. After a prolonged goodbye with my cousins and all me new "family" at a farewell dinner, where their cook, Etta, outdid what I thought was possible for such and old lady. I mentioned that to Colin. Jake was there and replied, "Mom and Dad have given her enough to live comfortably the rest of her life, but she prefers to live with them – and be their cook. She used to do everything, but Mom insisted on hiring help to manage the rest oh the house – but only under Etta as manager! Oh, and what Mom and Dad give her? She sends it all back to her family in Jamaica!" The long flight home was uneventful and extremely lonely. Luke would not even hear of me flying anything less than 1st class, once I got to a big enough airport to take a major airline. I decided it's an extravagance, but that since I could afford it, that's how I'm traveling from now on. When I got home, I was curious to learn how Saaby decided that he was gay again. "I just saw it as easier to date girls. Like you said, Dad. But I like guys - better. And please don't tell my brother, but I didn't like his – advances?" "Yeah, I can see that. Just be careful that you're not only trying to please your brother-in-law. You're my son now and he cannot dictate your life for you. But Saaby, don't take that to mean that you respect him any less." "I know that, Dad. Thanks." "So what are you doing now, Kev?" Keyvan was kind of quiet since I've been back home from Vermont. "I'm studying." "Uh-huh. And I'm your dad and I know something's bothering you." "Poppy, I really am studying hard, and have decided that there is nothing but bambos out there, so I'm just – studying!" "Bambos?" "You know, poofs that only have one thing on their mind." "Oh, you mean bimbos?" "Yes that." "Well, that can be a problem, and not a bad reason to study hard to - " "Poppy, my brother has decided to be gay again and then he has hooked up with your – boyfriend! Does this not bother you?" "It did for almost 2 minutes! I was not in love with Ash. He's very handsome like all Persians, but really, he and I have very little in common." "Poppy, it's hard at night." "Yeah, and you think it's not for me, huh?" I said with a smirk. "Oh. Have you been visiting your hand too much too?" "That's none of your business, Keyvan." I said, using his formal name to let him know that it stops here. "You're just going to have to believe me that it won't suck forever." Guy actually did call me – after his "Things" were cleared up. I just told him that I didn't know the next time I'd be back, and let him draw his own conclusions about that. I wrapped myself in my calling as dad to these two young men and as a dad and grandpa to Ron and my little Brian. He's growing like a weed now, and is going into fourth grade next month. I attend all of his little league games and anything else that he's involved with. He seems to be talented in every sport there is. He wants to take taekwondo now. I play chauffer for him a lot. He's going into a 4th grade football league now, so I'll be going to all those games too. The property next door – the other side from the Polczeks came up for sale recently, and Mo snapped it up immediately. He's renting it to Ron and Emily, with the understanding that if he wants he can buy it someday. Of course the rent is very affordable, and it was already fenced, cross-fenced and had nice horse paddock and stables. Also – of course – Mo is paying Ron to keep more of his wife's Arabians there. It goes without saying that it really was my dream from way back to have Ron either very close or here on the property that he "helped" to build. Mo offered to put in a pool for Ron, but Ron told him that they could so easily come over here and use our pool! He had installed a hot tub spa adjacent to the patio overlooking the pond before Ron and his family moved in. Mo's official residence is across the street but we see little of him. I get the idea that he thinks he has been too much of a burden to us. I've tried to dissuade that kind of thought, but he is a stubborn man. He comes home every night and tends to his family duties. He now has 2 sons and a daughter. We most often see Michelle and the children as she drives back and forth from the school. There is a bus system, but I believe they are kind of snobbish about their child taking the bus. After Gary - - he doesn't seem too anxious to rescue more Persians from the oppression in Iran. "Hey, Papa! Where you been. I haven't seen you or Ron in a long time." It was Chris Willows, Ron's friend the first boy I met in the juice bar restroom all those years ago! I somehow found myself down at 12th and K – the gay district – several months after returning from Vermont. "Ron is married to a very lovely woman and they have a son who is the apple of his granddad's eye!" I said, not hiding my pride. "Me, I just got back from a long visit to Vermont. I have a cousin there and had a great time." I had no reason to explain that it was not my cousin, but Gary's. (I still get a pang when I think of him.) "So, - - what – I mean wh = um- yeah, it HAS been a long time. How have you been?" "Oh, you know – forever a bachelor – that's me." Said Chris. "You don't have any desire to settle down – just connect with one guy?" "I just haven' found the right guy yet." "Um – how long – do you think it will take to – get you there? "I dunno." He said. He eyed me up and down. "I still am super attracted to older men, you know? There's lots of `em out there, but most are not to my liking." I always liked Chris. He's always been super clean, and respectful. He seems a little more – sedate or something – now. "Um – do you remember my son – er, he was my ward when you knew him, but do you remember Keyvan? You dated him a time or two." "I DO remember him. Stunning looking Arab – or something?" "Something," I said. "He's in his first year of residency as a veterinarian. "Yea, I really liked him. Kinda mysterious as I remember. He was the only young guy – younger than I am, I think – that I was remotely interested in." "So Chris, what are you doing down here. You hook up often?" "Not really often. There have only been a couple that I've really liked, but both of them turned out to be married." "OOO! That's nor good." I retorted. "They probably only wanted a toy – when they wanted to play?" "That exactly how it was!" He said. "How is Kev, anyway?" "Very busy . TOO busy as I see it." I said "I wonder if he would like to see me? He kind of dropped me – as I can remember – because I was too immature!" "I remember that. Well, I'm afraid that anything that you may want to do, if he wants to see you again, will have to be on his terms." I said. "He has little extra time. But – I think he should get out at least a little bit." "Do you think I could call him?" "Tell you what. Give me your number and I'll tell him I met you and put in a good word for you." "You always have been a very cool papa!" He said as he hugged me way too close. "Brian! " I heard come from behind me. I turned and it was Mike Riggs, my old friend with HIV. He shook my hand and then turned white. "I heard about Gary. Tragic, simply tragic!" "Yeah, well at least he was doing something which I think will garner him a special place in heaven." I grabbed my heart. "Oh Brian, it must still be so hard for you. I'm sorry that I brought it up." "No, it's okay, really. The more I talk about him, the better I feel." "I just cannot imagine. Do you think of him often?" "Mostly, I see him in my dreams. It's as if he is happy where he is, and I choose to believe it. That makes it much easier for me." "How long has it been, Brian? It seems an age ago." "Almost nine years." "Are you – I mean do you - " "Heh. This is my first foray out! Seems to be my M.O. When my wife, Deena died, Ron was only a lad, about nine, himself. I put myself on ice until he was eighteen, to not be a burden to him." Now it's getting close to the same since Gary died." I winced a little saying his name. "It must be so hard!" "It's not really, actually. I have Ron there with me and my grandson is almost nine himself, so I am very involved with him. Between Ron, Deena and little Brian, I - " "You have a grandson named after you. You must be quite special to your boy1" "We are very close. Some have said – behind our backs – that we are co-dependent. Well, and so we are! He depends on me and I on him. Is that a bad thing?" "Only if it's destructive in your lives. I so admire and am quite jealous of what you have, Brian." "Thanks, Mike. As a matter of fact, it was Ronny that suggested I get out and get – involved – in the community – again. It's kind of uncomfortable, but most things are until - " My phone started ringing. "Excuse me a moment." "Hello?" "Brian? This is Jack." "Jack?" "Seth gave me your number – Seth Gary." "Seth Gary! It that his last name? Oh – Jack – Jack, you mean next door to - " "The same. Where are you? I thought I'd surprise you, but that was a bad idea!" "What? Where – I mean – yeah, where are you??!! "I'm in – is it Cameron Park?" "WHAT?!! You're in Cameron Park? What – why – oh! Oh my! And Ryan?" "Jack, he passed away – last week." "Last WEEK!?? Um – okay, I mean - " "Well, obviously this is a bad time, I'm up here from the Hyatt in Rancho Cordova, I think it is. I can call another time, Bri. I didn't mean to - " "The HELL you will! Oh Jack, I'm so – SO sorry! This is so sudden!" "Not so sudden for me, Bri. Um - " "So you are in Rancho right now?" "Yup – the Hyatt." "I know exactly where you are! I can be there in 20 minutes. Less if I break the speed limits!" "Take your time. I'll spend the time making myself pretty for you!" "Wha – oh jeez! When did you check in there?" "This afternoon before I came up to your ranch. You weren't here, but I met a very good-looking Persian at your door. He invited me in and then made a call and your clone seemed to appear from nowhere!" "Oh! Look, I'll se you in a few. Um – oh! What – what apartment – oh, I mean what – um – room are you in?" "6th floor" "Great! What room?" "There's only one on the 6th floor." "Oh, of course, the penthouse! See you!" I made my excuses with Mike and ran to me car. I told Onstar to call Ron. "He's key-yute, Dad!" said my astute son. "So you've met Jack?" "Of course. I even invited him to a barbecue tomorrow night!" "You're priceless, Ronny – priceless!" "Will you be staying in the Hyatt with him tonight, Dad?" "Omigosh, Ronny! We haven't even met yet! I'm on my way over there now." "See you tomorrow night at your house for a family barbecue!" "Oh, Ron, you're the best! Bye!" "I love you Dad." "Oh, and I DO love you Ron!" I had already primped myself before I left to go out tonight. But still I couldn't help making sure in the lighted mirror in the sun visor. Does this ever get easy? I got on the elevator. I pressed 6 and it ignored me. I called Jack. "I can't get to elevator to go up to 6." "Oh how silly of me! You need a card!" And then I saw the card slot right next to the sixth floor button." "I'll be right down!" It seemed like forever! Several others came and went while I waited. He's probably primping himself! I giggled, just as the door opened. "Did I miss something?" He said, standing there looking like nothing short of an angel. "No, I - " He pulled me into the elevator. It seemed like slow motion, as the elevator door closed, and the elevator started up. We just stood there as it dinged its way past the first five floors. All the while we were lost in each other's eyes! Somehow our lips found each other and we were just getting into it when the elevator stopped and the door opened. I struggled for a moment. He held me tight. The door opened directly into his suite. "Oh Brian, do you know how long I have yearned to do that?" "I think I may, Jack, I just think I may." "Come in, come in!" He said. All of a sudden I felt shy – and about 18 years old again. I did a full turn looking at the plush surroundings. "This is amazing!" "Heh, just maybe a little better than the suite we had in Jersey, eh?" I turned back to him. "I'm not used to this kind of opulence." "Ha-ha! I've been to your place. Certainly you could afford it!" "I think I'm about to get used to it!" I said as I again kissed him. He dragged me to the main bedroom. "It is pretty amazing, isn't it?" he said. "Bri – it's been awhile since we last saw each other. Are you still - ?" "Grieving? Not - no! I'm not. I was actually out for the first time in several years – except for – do you know Guy, back in - " "Doesn't everyone?" "I dated him while I was back there." "Oh. That's – interesting." He said awkwardly. Then he laughed. "I dated him too, you know." "Nuh-uh!" "Yeah-huh! It was before I got together with Ryan." I recognized the pained expression he got as he spoke the name. "You know, Jack, this really sounds sappy, but – all the time I was with him – I was thinking about you!" "Nuh-uh!" "Yeah-huh! And then, I was so hungry for you when we were surfing. Luke assured me that you were all Ryan's – at that time." "Oh, Bri, I was feeling so guilty about the thoughts I was having about you. Not even exactly thoughts – more like feelings." "Me too – and now you're here, standing in front of me – telling me that you had the hots for me – too?!" "No, not had, Bri – HAVE!" And he pulled me down onto the bed on top of him."Ooooooh, my gosh this feels like - " "Heaven!" I finished his statement. "It feels like heaven!" "Hi, Saabby. I won't be home tonight. I'll be doing some catching up with my old friend." I left a message on his phone. I hope he was sleeping. You can probably guess what we did all night. Oh you can't? Well, it wasn't all talking, that's for sure. Oh we didn't do "that much" sex – and no anal – but I doubt there was any part on either of our bodies that didn't get explored! "Ron, Saaby, I know that you met him last night, but I'd like to introduce you to my fiancιe, Jack Smith!" Saaby looked bewildered and – apologetic at his lack of grace, while Ron was all smiles! "Come in! This is so exciting! I know it seems sudden but somehow I think there's more to it!" "MMM! Smells good in here, Ron!" I exuded. "It smells even better out on the patio. Got some meat on the grill!" It was as if Ron could not get rid of his smile! "Expecting company, are we?" I mused. "Well, DUH! And it appears that we will be celebrating something else!" Just then my little Brian came running upstairs from the basement. "Grandpa!" He said. At 9 years old, he still nearly knocked me over as he jumped up to my waiting arms. "So this is really something," said Jack, "two old grandpas, feeling like teenagers again!" "Have you told Seth and – is it Cole?" asked Ron. "It's Colin, Gary's cousin. No, you're the first to know." "And you mentioned you're a grandpa too, Jack. Where are they?" "They live in the manor." At Ron's obvious confused look, I said, "You know the Smith compound? Jack and Ryan – and their family live next door." Saaby looked between us and then said, "But you said that - aren't you Jack Smith? So you – live next to the Smith Compound?" He truly looked confused. "Yes, Sobby, is it?" We nodded. "The elder Mr. Jake Smith is my uncle." "Oh? And it's Sorab." He said, signifying he didn't like the familiarity of his nickname with this stranger and that ... he didn't see at all. "Where's Keyvan, Saab?" I asked, then to Jack, "I have one more son, Sorab's brother, Keyvan." "He is studying – as always." I walked down the hall to his door. I peeked in. "Kev? I have someone I'd like you to meet." "Oh hi Poppy! Oh, no! I have not showered up since I have cleaned up Ron's corral and barn!" "Special privileges, Kev. You can come meet him now and clean up after. Ron has something good smelling on the barbecue. Come out." He shyly came to the living room. At least his hands were clean. "Keyvan, this is my – friend – Jack Smith." He shook hands and offered his apology, "I fear that I might smell bad. I have been cleaning barns and corrals this afternoon." "You just smell like a horse person to me. I'm used to it. My children are always coming in with that same perfume!" Both Saaby and Kev laughed at that. "My pop – er – dad says that we might be eating soon. Please pardon me while I go get ready for dinner." "I haven't told you our news, Keyvan." "Um – am I in trouble, Poppy? " "No, why do you ask?" "You are calling me by formal name." "Oh!" I laughed. I looked at Saaby and didn't say what I was thinking. "Not at all, Kev. I just thought you might like your real name to be introduced to my fiancιe." His mouth dropped as he looked between Jack and me several times. "No sheet?" "The word is kidding, Brother – no kidding!" Said Saaby, seriously. 25-year-old Keyvan shook his head and threw up his hands. We all laughed. We had a very nice dinner, as if Ron divined something special was afoot: Grilled porterhouse with creamed peas and onions, Caesar salad, and cheesecake and rahadlakum for dessert! After everyone was mellow from eating their fill, I whispered to Jack, "Why don't you stay here tonight and then check out of the hotel tomorrow." "You don't like my digs?" He pouted. "Why drive way back down there tonight? My room isn't like that, but we'll have privacy enough, and - " "It only took us a half –hour to drive up. Sure this time of the evening it's not more than 20 minutes." I knew he didn't care about the accommodations, but he also doesn't realize the measures that Mo took to make sure I had my privacy. But I demurred. He went back to his hotel. KIDDING! WE went back to his penthouse! We were still getting to know one another's bodies, and were in no hurry to go balls out into everything we ever had done or heard of. We hardly got to second base. But we loved second base – several times! In the afterglow of our penthouse tryst, I asked, "Are you okay with this, Jack?" "Oh – um – why? Aren't you?" "I'm fine with it, but with Ryan gone so recently - - " "Oh, I understand your concern, Bri. Ryan had another attack the day after you left Vermont. He never left the hospital. Brian, he knew about us." "Us? What? I – erm – US?" "Before he died, he seemed to know when the time came. He was critical for three days. I never left his side. He said that he would be gone soon and - " "Oh my gosh, Jack, I feel so - " "Bri, he told me to go to you. He saw that we were – well, he said `perfect for each other'. He could see how we – um – hit it off." "Oh, I'm so sorry, Jack, I certainly didn't - " "It's okay, Bri. I told him – everything that we had done." "We didn't do any - " "That first night, in the middle of the night, in the bathroom together – and also, after that big wave – didn't you feel something – special?" "Yeah, that's for sure." I said, my head drooping in shame. Jack gently lifted my chin so he was looking into my eyes. "Didn't you realize that every time our eyes met there were sparks?" I nodded solemnly. "Ryan took that all in – and it was okay with him. He's asked me if I wanted to start dating again several times, when he was so depressed. He wanted you for me – and he told me the night before – he left me." "Oh, Jack I know how you must feel. Gary and I loved each other that way too. He would be – probably is – disappointed that I've waited so long to – hook up with someone. But he died so suddenly that he couldn't verbalize it to me as your Ryan did to you. Oh, Jack, I'm so happy it is with you!" "Bri, is it to early for me to say, I love you?" "Well, I hope not! We're engaged, aren't we?" "Then, I love you, Brian! It doesn't make sense, but at our age, maybe it doesn't have to!" "That sounds - -right! I love you too, Jack Smith! I have for longer than I wanted to admit!" I laughed with delight. "I just realized that! All the time that I spent with you, and each time Ryan got sick, I was feeling guilty about the feelings I was having." "You too? Omigosh, I felt so torn. Um – how long an engagement did you want?" "Engagement?" "You told your sons that we were fiancιes. Doesn't that mean we're engaged?" "I guess it does – doesn't it?" I laughed "Did you want a – er – um – some kind of ceremony?" I Asked. "Did you do that with Gary?" "We said some words – in my front yard. Nothing formal or legal." "Ryan and I were legally married in Vermont. Did you want that?" "I don't feel it's necessary, actually. As a matter of fact, we can draw up a domestic partner contract. You are worth so much more than I am and I wouldn't want to deprive any of our children of their own inheritances. Does that make sense to you, Jack?" "You're one in a million, Bri! Uhmm, how – I mean – how soon – do you think we should do this?" "Well, did you want to at least wait until your kids get used to – us?" "Yeah – that'd probably be good." "You decide, Jack. As far as Ronny is concerned – the sooner the better, for me." "Wow! Has he already told you that?" "Not in so many words, but he has been nagging me to find someone for at least five years!" "Um – do you still work?" "Not very much. Obviously, I'm on my own-time table. I can take it or leave it." "So – you are pretty – um – independent?" "I don't have to work, if that's what you mean. Why, do you?" "No. I retired some years ago, the same time Ryan did. His was for medical reasons, and I was content to take care of him." "Okay, that sounds good." "What's that?" "We can take care of each other!" I laughed. "And – how soon did you want to – um – start living together?" Jack asked pensively. "As far as I am concerned, as soon as you are comfortable with your kids accepting our arrangement." "So if they don't have any objections – next week – next month?" "Jack – I mean this – it's your choice. I'm ready today, or as soon as you say the word." He looked almost fearful when I said that. "Ryan has been calling the shots most of your time with him, hasn't he?" I said. "You can see through me so well." He said. "Especially since his accident." "Accident? Is that what brought on his problems?" "Actually it was no accident. We just started calling it that to make Ryan more comfortable. He was kidnapped! They did some pretty horrible things to him. Ever since then, our life was split into before and after the incident. I loved – well – love him so much, I couldn't just leave him, when he became irrational. That and I couldn't leave the kids with him in that state." "So, they are his kids?" "Not as far as they are concerned. But yes, he is their biological father. I was closer to both of them. I was closer to Rye, before the incident, and after – Ranee, was devastated by her dad's isolating himself from her, so I became closer to her as well. They are my kids!" "So, anyway, I expect that you'll want to at least go back to Vermont for a time – before we publicly commit to each other." "I – yeah, I suppose, but – Bri, I don't want to be gone from you for any lengthy period either. I'm just so – I guess at our ages, I don't want to waste too much time. You know?" I think I know where he's going with this, but he's so unused to making major decisions, that maybe he needs some help. "Ryan – how about I come back there with you and – stay with my cousin – or with Luke and Seth – if that can work out – until you say it's time." "Yeah – I like it! And – Seth can probably work with Ranee – to – I mean – to make – er I man to help her understand and accept us." "Okay – so it's Ranee that I need to charm, is it?" "Pretty much, I'm afraid. It'll be a shock, either way, that I might be moving all the way out to California." "Wha - !? "You want to move out to California?" "Oh! If it's okay with you, of course. I really miss it!" He said, looking embarrassed. "If we make this our home base, we can travel and be with them as much as we or they want – or can stand us!" I grinned. "And if you would be comfortable in my – less ostentatious circumstances, then of course, I'd love you to come and stay with me here." I saw the tension drain out of him. "You already know me better than I know myself, I think!" He said. I want for Ranee's and Rye's kids to have a more – normal life – rather than have to always be worried what their friends might say – if they knew that their grandpa was gay." He looked almost as if he maybe should not have said that, until I said, "I totally agree. For that very same reason I waited until Ronnie was out of high school to tell him, and do you know what he said to me?" "Duh?" "What? You too? You're all incorrigible!" I said. Jack almost fell on the floor laughing. My kind of guy! Jack called his son, Ryan Jr.: "Rye, it's dad." "So – did you guys hit it off?" "Wha – aat?" Jack exclaimed. "How did you - ?" "Ray-ray and I've been talking to Seth." "Okay, first, Rye, I have you on hands free, and I'd like you to meet me fiancιe, Brian Weber." "Uh – omigosh, ha-ha! You guys didn't waste any time did you?" "Hi Ryan. I'm so glad to formally meet you. I've of course seen you around, when I was back there. Yeah, your dad and I have really hit it off!" Jack said, "So, you're okay with this, Rye?" "Oh, yeah! And Seth has hit Ray-ray with some reality therapy, I think. She's fine with it." "Oh my! Well, I'll be here for a – um – awhile more, and then we'll come back there – for a time." "Oh jeez, Dad! Don't make us wait too long. It's gonna be hard enough to keep this news from Rachelle and the kids! Well, I won't from Rache! And I'm sure that Rye the third and Emma will love their new grandpa!" "Will you – tell Ranee that I've called?" "Dad! Don't you think she deserves to hear it first hand too?" "I guess you're right – again, Rye!" "Let us know when you'll be back here. We'll make sure your bed is all made up and ready!" "Oke-Kaaay!" said Jack. "Actually, we want to keep up at least a faηade of decency until the knot is officially tied." "You're a real prude, you know that, Dad?" "Yeah. It's my generation, you know." "Okay. Can't wait. G'bye Dad!" "Ranee, it's your dad." "Oh, is that why your name came up on my cell phone?" "I just finished talking to Rye. He said that you've been talking to Seth." "Yes, I have, Dad. And between him and Joey, they have convinced me that it'll be okay if you get married again." "And what if I don't – get married." "Isn't that why you called? Rye already called me and warned me of your call." "Ray-ray, I have the phone on hands free. I'd like to introduce my fiancιe, Brian Weber to you." "OH! Are you the Brian that stayed with Uncle Colin a few months back?" "Y –yes." I said shyly, hoping it was a good thing. "I've heard so much about you! I've only seen you across a room. I can't wait to meet you, um – Mr. – um - " "Please, call me Brian." "So, Dad, are you gonna move out and give Rye and his family some privacy?" "Um – yeah?" Said a very surprised Jack. "As a matter of fact, I've been talking to Brian about moving out to California, to live in his home." He said, wincing the whole time. "Oh good!" She said, "We'll have a place to stay out in California." "You sure will!" He said jubilantly. "But you are bringing Brian out east so I can make my final appraisal of him, right?" I could hear the grin on her face "You know I will. We'll have an engagement party and for once, we'll have all the Smith family at our home for the gala of the season!" He muted his phone and said, "She'll love that!" "Good! Then Rye and I will plan it" "Why Rye and you?" "Well, it's usually the bride that does that, but I assume neither of you will admit to that role – right?" "I love you so much Ranee Crayson Lightly!" "Joe Lightly is my son-in-law." Jack whispered to me. "Hope to see you soon – Daddy!" "Oh, Ray-ray? Hold on a minute. "Yes, Daddy?" "Bri, what's Ron's number so in case Rye or Ranee want to call him?" He told me, she got it and they said good-bye. "You're okay with doing it here, aren't you?" "No problemo, Jack. It makes more sense. There's a lot more there than here." "Geez, Rye, you'd think neither of us has ever done this before!" complained Jack, facetiously. "Blame Ray-ray! Ron and I have had zilch to do except run her errands!" Ryan laughed. That got a sequenced up nose from Ranee. Ryan junior and Ronny got along famously. They all did, even Little Brian and Ryan III,really, but the gender differences were thick! Ron and Emily took a weeks vacation to fly to Vermont and help with the arrangements. "I guess the groom and groom are off the hook for anything, except be our charming selves!" Said Jack. "Aw, c'mon, Dad," cried Ronny, "One of you has to wear the veil!" That was the kind abuse we took (willingly!) from our collectively loving and understanding children. Mo would not take anyone's hospitality. He rented a nearby villa for himself, Michelle, their kids and his two brothers-in-law (my adoptees) and his mother-in-law. When the afternoon came, they all arrived to the Crayson manor in a black stretch Hummer complete with a chauffer and doorman to help the ladies out. The hummer then left. "You omitted to tell me that you married into royalty, my dear friend, Brian." He proclaimed as he handed me a small box. "It is my understanding that the gifts are to go to the bride in this country. You can open it later." He winked and said with a sly smile, as he opened my coat and dropped it into my inside pocket. The one thing that WAS simple was the ceremony. All of the Smith family "brothers" and cousins were there, Seth standing next to Jack. Of course my best man was Ronny. "What do you think Mo's planning to `insult' you with this time?" Whispered Ronny. Feeling the slight bulge in my coat pocket, I said, "Well, it's not heavy enough to be a gold ingot, so we'll just have to wait until later. I don't think I want to open it in front of the crowd!" "Ladies and gentlemen," Mo started, "It is with the greatest pleasure that I am to be honored to be the mouthpiece that joins together these two valiant and obviously excellent men. I've never done this, and would have preferred not to, but since I twisted my good friend, Brian's arm into performing my own wedding, I felt honor bound to do his bidding as well. "Brian, will you honor this assembly by turning and taking the right hand of Jack Smith in your own right hand, and will you promise to always love, respect and honor him, as your life companion? "Yes." I said soberly, with shining eyes. "And Jack, will you in turn promise to love, respect and honor Brian Weber, as your life companion?" Jack's eyes were wet as well and his smile was wide. ""With all my heart." He said, soberly, loving me with his eyes. "You have each pledged your mutual love, respect and honor, and since I live across the street, I intend to assist in any way to accomplish this. I know Brian well enough that I am convinced that he would not enter into this kind of covenant lightly. I can never – ever – repay what Brian has done for me and for my family, but I shall ever try. And now you, Jack are part of Brian's family, and I welcome you as another close friend. "Should you like to acknowledge your love for each other in a public way," he smiled widely, "I believe now would be the time!" We both looked at each other for about 2-1/2 seconds and at the same time flung our arms around each other and kissed long, hard and deliciously! The crowd roared, applauded, and laughed! Jack whispered in my ear, "I never imagined that I'd ever feel this giddy again!" I laughed and kissed him again. About an hour into the festivities, I was tapped on the shoulder and there stood Mo, looking apologetic. "I'm sorry my friend, but I must leave now. Pressing affairs as always. Where is the box I handed you? I retrieved it and he nodded for me to open it. There was a very small bow and inside was a small clicker with a stylized "B" and several buttons on it. "May I?" I handed it to Mo, and he pushed a couple buttons and I heard a beep and a low hum. He led me to the door, and opened it, and at the end of the long walkway to the door, was a copper, 2-door Bentley convertible, lights on and humming low. "I wanted for you to have a nice touring car, for your many trips that I know you will be taking." "Mo! No!" This is - " "It's not too much, Brian. Don't imagine that I can ever repay you for what you have done for me, not the least was giving Michelle back to me. I am ever in awe and in your debt. Please allow me to indulge myself to assuage my feelings of insecurity and inferiority when I am up against such as you and Ron!" "Well – okay, but please – no more!" "No promises, Bri! In time even that machine will fall to rust and I shall still be in your debt." "You're intractable!" I said, chuckling. "What's up, Bri?" said Jack, having walked away from another group. "I guess we're driving back to California!" I said, chagrinned. He looked past me and whistled low. "Whoa! I was drooling over one of those that I saw just last week! And we get to take one on a trip?" I looked at Mo and smiled. "Any trip we want to take." "Oh! Mo is loaning it to us?" He said with a questioning smile "This is Mo's wedding gift to us, Jack."
