Introduction

Well, it's been a while since I posted, but what's a few years here or there, right? I finally started on The Gifts, and here's the first chapter. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. It is definitely a work in progress. I have Chapter Two finished but have not started on Chapter Three yet. I can't promise any regular posting schedule, so please bear with me as I get back into the new content. Just as with The Order, I haven't written the conclusion but I know how it ends, I just need to fill in the middle part to get there.

The Gifts is not exactly a sequel to The Order, it's more of a continuation of the story, so if you haven't read The Order I highly suggest you go back and do so. The Gifts jumps right in after a three-year gap in time for the characters, and much of how the guys interact and how their abilities work, etc. will not make sense if you start here.

Over the last few years, I gave The Order a pretty good overhaul, creating a 2nd Edition. It's more highly edited (still by me, but using software and other tools, and a good and helpful friend) and I fixed a few inconsistencies and added some occasional clarification. I edited out about 150,000 words in all, which was mostly the extended and more explicit sex scenes. Honestly, I think the sex, while it was hot, detracted from the storyline. The Gifts continues in that light, so sex happens (it has to happen because of how their Powers work) but it's not super detailed. The guys are guys, and gay, so they make tons of sexual references and dick jokes, which are hopefully funny.

The 2nd Edition is available on Amazon in eBook format if anyone wants to have it available on a Kindle or some other device. There are six books totaling the thirty chapters here on Nifty. That isn't a plug for selling books, I promise lol. I did have a number of people sending me email asking if they were available in eBook format because it was easier for them to read. Once The Gifts is complete, I plan on doing the same thing.

I don't want to make this intro too long and boring, so I'll cut it off here. Thanks for reading, and your continued support! I truly hope you enjoy the story and continue the adventure of Ken, Brad, and their Brothers.

My email contact is at the end of the chapter if any of you wish to write me with questions or comments.

-Brad

Prologue One

In Heaven, there is a place so sacred even the Archangel's are not allowed to enter. In that place lies a Temple with a great hall leading to a pair of Doors, beyond which lie what remains of the First Creation.

Before the Archangels, God created Thirteen Archon's, also called Luminaries, and with God, they Sang the First Creation into Being. For Trillions of years the First Creation existed. Similar to Luke, one of the Luminaries Fell, and Corruption entered the First Creation.

Once tainted, the First Creation eventually became so Broken God called upon a Dragon of his devisement to destroy it. Before all was gone, he called the three best crafters from the First Creation to perform a deed, instructing them to Forge ten Gifts. Gifts, he saw, that would be needed to save his Second Creation, which was newly formed.

Two of the crafters refused, but the third performed his task. Seeing the third crafters obedience as betrayal, the first two bound him in chains within the Second Creation, and then Angry at God, they rebelled and were struck down.

With the two Creations being so vastly different, the remnants of the First had to be kept separate from the Second, or they would both cease to exist. The twelve remaining and loyal Archons Sealed the Doors with their own essence, keeping them closed. Time flowed differently between the two Creations, and the Archons aged. The conflict between the energies they kept apart wore on them, and eventually, one by one they perished, giving up their essence in fulfillment of their Purpose.

Eleleth, the strongest, was the last. Alone, he mourned the loss of his Brothers, knowing he would soon follow. At the last, mere moments away from fading entirely, something unexpected happened. Within the Second Creation a horrible event happened, and The Curse came into existence, permeating the Second Creation and keeping it in a corrupt state, thus isolating it from the First.

The Curse kept the Doors shut, and in relief, Eleleth fell unconscious before the last of his essence faded. Asleep for eighty thousand years, the tear in Reality between Luke and Orophir woke Eleleth, and looking upon the Second Creation, he saw everything that had transpired during the time of his recovery.

With The Curse still in place, the crux of everything preventing the annihilation of both Creations rested on a human child, The Second Born, named Drew Ross, who must be protected at all cost.

Prologue Two

After The Master's demise and Luke, The Dark One, being sucked into the void between Creations, Ken, Brad, and the guys decided not to erase the memories of humans across the earth.

There was no public explanation of the global event causing everyone to fall unconscious and then reawaken in a crazed state of Mind, trying to kill one another.

Two years prior on Christmas Eve during Bryan's Christmas Present to Lane, the guys made their Aura's felt worldwide. Anyone not asleep felt the unconditional love of their unknown protectors, and those asleep felt it in their Dreams. Again, it was a global event with no viable explanation.

Conspiracy theorists had a field day over the events, but no one really knew. A young Hispanic man named Raphael Martinez claimed to know, and some listened to him, but most thought him either crazy or an opportunist trying to start a new cult.

Ken, Brad, and their Brother's along with Henry, Aaron, and Albrecht, came to a consensus, deciding to wait a few years before taking any actions towards removing The Curse over Mankind. They wanted time for The Master's influence to wane and see how the world fared without his influence.

While hunting `suits' and Protectors, and the pockets that formed in the power vacuum, they continued training while finding and building bases, shoring up their defenses for Luke's eventual return.

One thing they didn't expect was for things to worsen. People seemed crazier than ever, and the world more fractured. It seemed The Master kept things more under his control and focused than they ever suspected, and without his influence, under The Curse, the fucked-upness in people ran rampant.

Frank, Miss Lula, and The Dove (who Drew called the birdman) looked down upon their Third Children, knowing the time of their next Trial was upon them. Free and Unfettered, the Hope of their Second Creation again lay in the Paradox of their Third Children; however, this time their First Creation as well, and their Third, which did not yet exist. There is Power in Threes.

Such things matter.

Chapter One

Three Years After The Master's Death

Worried about his husband, Ken let Brad sleep in. Brad was strong, his Mind amazingly Powerful, but what he put himself through the day before was brutal, even by all the standards of everything they had faced so far.

For the first time ever, Brad put his Mind into every human on earth, looking deep at their innermost thoughts, trying to discern just how bad things had gotten. Passing out, he collapsed even with the backing of Ken and the rest of the guys.

The trauma in all of them severe, they stayed together, wrapped around Brad for what seemed like days in the place where their Souls were One. Henry was with them, and the doctor and Albrecht, and together they cried, supporting each other as only they could.

Building a Wall around what resided in Brad, they blocked it off, containing it so it remained, but in his conscious Mind.

The fumes of The Curse residing in humans and in Creation seemed more potent than ever, and they wondered why.

Making a fresh pot of coffee Ken took a cup back, setting it on the nightstand on Brad's side of the bed.

Taking off his shorts, he crawled back in bed, snuggling against his husband. Brad, unconsciously aware, burrowed back, feeling the warmth of Ken's body and the Light of his Soul.

As it happened so often, when Ken held Brad, his emotions welled, and his eyes watered. What Brad meant to him was beyond words. Sharing their Souls was the crux of it, yet it was more than that. They were made for each other, two pieces of a puzzle, and living in each other nearly all the time, they found it more difficult than ever to separate and be apart.

It was the same with all their Brothers, not only as couples but also as friends. The five couples, plus Henry, lived in each other, sharing their ups and downs, hanging shit on one another as only best friends can, caring for and carrying each other when necessary. They were, in essence, One being, with eleven Hearts and Minds, a Paradox, and outside the Laws of Physics.

Over the last three years, the doctor and Albrecht often joined them. After The Master's demise, Aaron followed through with his promise to Albrecht, taking the chance of his adoptive son's not accepting him for who he was. Of course, Albrecht was right, and their merging was unlike anything any of them expected. All of them benefited, and their bonds became even tighter.

The knowledge they gleaned and the comfort their mentors received only solidified their devotion to one another.

Wrapping himself around Brad's Heart and Mind just as he did his body, Ken held Brad until he woke up, initiating a Link so he would know when Brad was awake.

Eventually waking he felt Ken's warm body against him and their Souls touching. Ken's Heart and Mind held him just as Powerfully as his arms, loving him. After everything Brad witnessed, he wanted more than ever for normal humans to feel what he and Ken had, what all of them had. Also, after everything he witnessed, he wondered if it would ever be possible.

Remaining quiet, a shudder ran through him at the recollection of what he saw and experienced.

How are you feelin', B?

A short silence followed, and Ken knew fresh tears fell.

It hurts Ken.

Ken held him tighter, thinking: I know. I don't want you doin' that again. Maybe break it up and don't do it all at once. Or better yet, let the other guys help. I know your Avatar is best suited, but workin' together we'll all carry the load.

Brad remained silent, but Ken didn't feel any resistance to his idea. That in itself said a lot.

Ken's little kid grin appeared, which Brad sensed through their Link.

Hey, I know I'm not as smart as you, but I do have a Ph.D. in Brad Wilson. I have a prescription that might make you feel better.

Despite his headache, Brad smiled because he knew what was coming. In fact, he already felt Ken stirring against the small of his back.

This is for you, B. Don't reciprocate.

Ken's hands started working their magic. His husband's touch never ceased to arouse Brad, but when he invoked his Soul, using his Heart and Mind behind his touch, it became unresistable.

His body reacted just as Ken wanted it to, and Ken drew out his pleasure. The endorphins released through multiple orgasms actually helped relieve his headache, and resting in each other's Souls took care of the rest.

After a time, he couldn't help himself and turned the tables, becoming `that guy' for Ken, and a few hours later, in a breathless pile of sweaty, satisfied muscle, the two men drifted in each other, coming down from the aftermath.

As always, their Souls didn't want to separate, the perfection of being One another too comforting.

Brad's hands roamed over Ken's back, holding him and loving him when Ken suddenly exclaimed: Fuck.

What?

Ken chuckled.

Your coffee's cold. Let me get you a fresh cup. I planned for the smell to wake you up, but I couldn't help myself. You're too damn hot, B.

Smiling back, Brad replied: That's laying it on a bit thick, but I'll take it. Let's go in the kitchen and both get a fresh one. I'll start breakfast, and then we can head to the Lab.

vv

When Ken and Brad pulled into the Lab, everyone else's cars were there. Before they even walked in the door, Lane pulled them into a deep Link, merging them into One.

As soon as they walked in the door, everyone made a beeline for Brad, hugging him, ruffling his hair, and expressing their concern for him. His eyes were still red and he looked pale, worrying them. The residual effects of what he did were far more profound than any of them expected.

While outwardly hugging him, in the place where their Souls were One, naked to each other in all aspects, they also held him. Surrounding him, the warmth of their powerful bodies pressed in on him, and he basked in the liquid golden Light of their Souls. They were so deep Time wasn't moving, and they stayed there until not only Brad but all of them were settled.

In the Physical Realm, the doctor, Albrecht, and Sally came to check on Brad too.

Since it was Saturday and the boys had no lessons, Drew, Tommy, and Brett were there. The three boys ran to Brad first, and Brad felt Drew's Mind and Heart around him, holding him as firmly as Henry and everyone else. After getting his hugs and kisses, the boys moved to Ken.

When everyone settled down, Ken said, "I wanna hold off on discussin' any of this until Monday. Let's head `ta the park so the boys can get some ball time in. The weather's nice and it'll be fun."

vvv

Holding the bat just like his dad showed him, Drew's stance was perfect.

Henry's voice and presence in his Mind and Heart always helped Drew focus. Even though they weren't physically touching, he felt Henry's hands on his body, keeping him in perfect form.

You're doing awesome, Tiger. Now remember, keep your eye on the ball. In your Mind, connect the end of the bat to the ball, and swing with your hips.

Drew didn't slow his perception of Time because it wouldn't be fair to Tommy and Brett, but he was good at gaging the strike zone even without that. Even though he was only ten years old, with all the gymnastics training and physical tutoring by his Uncles, Drew was an exceptional athlete. His dad and his Uncles were his role models, and he wanted more than anything to be just like them.

Starting their `game chatter' from the dugout, Lane and a few of the guys chanted, "Hey, batta batta... Hey, batta batta... Hey, batta battaaaaa ... drawing out the chant to shout "Swing!" trying to make Drew miss.

Smiling, Drew ignored them, knowing it was part of the game.

Good job, Tiger.

Keeping his eye on the ball, he watched it approach and it seemed to slow anyway, stopping halfway.

v

A moment of extreme clarity overcame Drew. Seeing the ball in minute detail, he noted the stitching as though it was under a microscope, seeing all the tiny frays in the thread, even the dirt-smudged fingerprints on the leather. The scent of the leather, along with the smell of the fresh-cut grass on the ballfield and the dust and heat of the day, filled his nostrils.

His Vision traveling further in, he moved through the ball to another place. A tightness formed in his stomach, followed by a warmth he had only felt one other time in his young life, when The Dove, the part of God Drew called the `birdman,' hugged him in the field outside Avalon.

The warmth only lasted a brief second before turning into heart-wrenching anxiety. He watched a man, powerfully built and wearing armor, fighting an enormous being that didn't look human. Behind them stood two Doors, so tall he couldn't see the top of them. There were circles on the doors, twelve in all, and all save one were dark. Instinctively, Drew knew the Light of the man defending the doors was the last of the twelve.

v

From the dugout his Uncle's watched, cheering the boys on and shouting occasional encouragement. Cavall was there, and Bullet, along with Miss Sally. Even Aaron and Albrecht joined them that morning. Unseen, but with them, was the Wolf-Spirit who protected Drew's Dreams. It was a beautiful Saturday morning in Georgia, and everyone enjoyed getting out in the sun and fresh air.

Suddenly, a loud ripping sound erupted in the air around them. They had heard it before, the last time being the day Luke killed The Master.

It was the sound of Reality tearing.

Their training in full effect, Brad delved them together – Ten, Five, One, plus Henry – forming a single, perfect Soul.

Their Avatars flared brightly on their solid shoulders as Ken locked them into one, and along with Henry they became more than the sum of their individual selves. Aaron and Albrecht Shielded Sally and the boys, but the Shields of the men covered all of them.

Everything happened in the time between breaths, as Brad took them so deep Time nearly stood still.

Tears appeared in the air as massive, razor-sharp claws shredded the curtain between the First Reality and the nothing that existed outside; the nothing Luke had fallen into after his battle with Orophir, his Nephilim offspring.

Luke's voice, similar yet different, echoed from the nothing.

Kill the boy! He must fall!

Henry, as the catcher, squatted right behind Drew.

As soon as the ripping sound started, Drew cried out in pain, dropping the bat and reaching for his back as his body arched in pain.

Henry: Drew!

A massive Demon crawled through the tear, much larger than any they had ever seen. Its skin dark purple, almost black, dark green energy shone in its eyes and laced through its veins and grotesquely gnarled, muscular body.

The tear sealed behind the Demon as it flexed its wings, getting its bearings and landing on its hooves.

The landscape of the Spiritual Realm directly around them changed as the ghostly image of Yggdrasil appeared from Bryan calling on its Power. While Brad fluttered their Souls across the Veil and Loy called on Animal Spirits, Lane Listened, using the Music of their Souls to fill all of them. Almost instantly, they were full of Power, shining Pillars of Light and Strength, ready to face the Dark creature.

Henry: Honey!? What's wrong!?

Daddy, it hurts!

Drew sounded desperate, writhing in pain. In his squirming, Drew's jersey pulled up, exposing a strange discoloration on his back. Pulling the cloth up revealed what looked to be claw marks, matching the pattern of the shredded tears in the air as the Demon ripped a whole in Reality to come forth.

One with his Brothers, they saw the marks on Drew through Henry, still moving and glowing with the same green energy in the creature's eyes.

Attempting to teleport Henry and Drew back to the Lab, it didn't work.

Darren: I can't get them out, Ken! Fuck I get so tired of this shit!

Green Power surged through the Demon, coalescing into a sword in its hand as it leapt for Drew. Launching himself, Ken struck the flat of the blade with his shoulder, knocking it aside to strike the ground and miss Drew.

White ropes of Energy flew from the Mentalists, but the only Power that touched it came from Lane and Loy.

Brad: Oh, Fuck. This changes things. Ken, you hit him physically, so we have that.

Ken: Lane, Loy, hit him with everything you have. Bry, Kev, Pat, Ricky, you're with me. He's not getting' near Drew!

Everyone knew what to do. Ken drilled every possible scenario into them about what to do if they were in public and something happened. Aaron and Albrecht grabbed Tommy and Brett, and Sally stayed with them. Bullet did as well, but Cavall raced to Drew's side even as the Wolf-Spirit appeared beside him.

Grabbing Drew, Henry picked him up and leapt behind the opposite dugout away from the others, fearing the Demon might hurt them in his attempts to get Drew.

Drew fell unconscious in Henry's arms, and it tore at him seeing his son in so much pain and not knowing what to do about it.

Lane and Loy sent ropes of White Power around the Demon's arms, trying to hold it back. Then, springing razor-sharp edges, their Power dug into the creature but did little damage. In the past they shredded Luke's demons in that manner, and while it was an effort it destroyed them, but the one before them was barely affected.

Bellowing a roar that shook the ground, the Demon flexed its massive body and cut through their White ropes with its sword.

Everything about the fight seemed wrong. Lane and Loy's Avatars should make them equal to the task by themselves, but somehow, they weren't enough. Digging deep, Henry's desperation to save and Protect Drew pushed them to be more than enough, yet the Demon resisted them, cutting through their Power effortlessly.

His Spiritual efforts having limited effect, Loy's form shimmered into a massive gorilla and he leapt on it along with the Bodies, but it was so much larger than the Demons they fought previously, they weren't able to pin its arms or legs. Shrugging off their efforts, it relentlessly kept moving towards Drew.

They slowed it and aggravated it but could not stop it.

Ken: Henry, get Drew outta here! Run! We'll slow it down!

Holding his unconscious son, Henry took off with all his enhanced speed. The Lab was miles away, but he hoped the Runes would keep the Demon away if he could make it.

Loy: Cav, Bullet, stay with Drew!

The Wolf-Spirit already ran with Henry, unseen but at his side.

Pursuing Henry, the Demon took to the air where the Bodies couldn't reach it. Shimmering back into his human form, Loy and Lane shackled its wings with ropes of White Power, and it fell to the ground.

Ken knew they couldn't let it take the air and get away from them.

Their thoughts One, Brad took everyone's tactical expertise and efforts so far, forming a new strategy.

The Bodies attacked as One. Ken leapt on its back while two men grappled one arm each. Loy went for its legs, his form shimmering into a giant Anaconda, wrapping around its hooves and ankles, constricting with all his serpentine strength.

The Demon fell face forward onto the ground, its wings fluttering and trying to keep itself upright. Its back exposed, Lane sent a rope of Power around the bone and cartilage where one wing attached to its body. Springing razor-sharp edges, he literally sawed the wing off.

Screaming and writhing in pain, the creature shrugged everyone off, but one wing was now useless. Finally, they managed to hurt it.

Ken: Keep it corralled, fellas! We've got its attention now. It has `ta go through us `ta get to Drew.

Only Lane and Loy saw the giant form of Allenor appear in the middle of the ball field.

Lane: Allenor? What the hell?

Ken: He's here!?

Larger than the demon, Allenor rushed the creature, slamming into it and bowling it over.

Unable to perceive Allenor, everyone but Lane and Loy watched the Demon suddenly bowl over, grappling with a seemingly invisible enemy.

The two massive beings, fully able to affect one another, savagely and brutally fought one another.

Even as big as Allenor was, the Demons matched his strength as they struggled, rolling around. Nothing in the Physical Realm touched Allenor, but the Demon destroyed trees, picnic tables, and playground equipment as they savagely fought one another.

Lane and Loy watched, trying to help Allenor but making little difference.

None of the Bodies wanted to interfere with Allenor's efforts and inadvertently make the fight more difficult for him. Finally seeming to get the upper hand, Allenor squeezed the Demon in a bear hug, and the bodies heard bones snapping.

Only Lane and Loy heard Allenor's voice: The child must survive. He is the...

Before Allenor finished his sentence, dark green energy flared, the Demon's blade formed, slicing up and through Allenor's body. Staggering back, he fell to one knee, still holding the Demon.

With the last of his strength Allenor squeezed, breaking the Demon in half as he collapsed.

Letting out a scream of rage and pain, defeated, the Demon dissipated into nothing.

Allenor, alive but gravely wounded, fell to the ground.

Loy: Allenor!

His voice weak, Allenor thought: Loy Barton, Lane Weaver... I ...I see you.

Drawing from Loy, Lane sent thick White ropes of Healing into Allenor but they had no effect.

You perceive me but cannot touch me in that way. Thank you... for your attempt... but I fade.

Lane: We don't understand. We weren't sure you were still alive.

Origin remains silent. I found a way home... yet I was prevented. I cannot return without destroying your Creation... so I remain.

Struggling to talk, his voice getting weaker, he continued: The child is safe for now... He keeps you safe. You must find the remaining Gifts; only then will you See. He must survive. He is the Crux, and without him... your Creation will fall.

As Allenor spoke his voice grew fainter until his last words were barely a whisper.

Loy: We're so sorry, Allenor.

Tears covered Loy's face at the demise of the being they freed. Allenor saved Drew from a new threat they seemed largely ineffectual against, giving his life to do so. After being imprisoned billions of years and then set free, he gave his life for something he wasn't even a part of.

Since none of the others could perceive Allenor in any way, even through Lane and Loy, Lane shared everything of their conversation with the rest of the guys through their Link.

The doctor's software would track down any social media posts or images and videos, which left only the physical evidence.

Ken: B, take care of any witnesses. The rest of us clean up the damaged playground equipment and trees. Make it look like this never happened.

Following Ken's order, Brad sent his Mind out into all the humans in the area, pushing out a Compulsion to forget anything they saw and to erase any videos or pictures taken.

Massive pain shot through his Mind and he stumbled, crying out and falling to his knees.

B!

Together as One, Brad's pain flowed into all of them, but Brad took the brunt of it, trying to Shield them.

Ken was closest and knelt behind Brad, encircling him in his arms protectively, even as he wrapped his Mind and Heart around his husband even more tightly.

Fuck, that hurt!

Ken: B, what's wrong? Are you alright?

I think so. I'm not sure.

Even as Bread tried to stand up, he collapsed, falling unconscious in Ken's arms.

Before Ken was able to say anything, Darren synchronized their Avatars and they all appeared in the Lab, safely behind the Runes.

Aaron: Ken, quickly, get Bradford in a bed.

Synchronizing with the other Bodies, Pat looked deep within Brad with his full Understanding.

He saw something... a Shadow, flitting around within Brad's Mind and Soul, but it was too fast for him to catch. Slowing his perception of Time helped, but it eluded his direct attention. After a few seconds it paused as if looking at him, and then it vanished. He wasn't sure where it went, which disturbed him... his Avatar should have shown him, and he wondered where it could have gone. It was like it ceased to exist.

His gut wrenched at what he saw, though.

It's The Curse, Ken. Fuck, there's a piece of it inside Brad!

Anxiety ran through all of them over the implications of Pat's statement.

Aaron: This has happened before on a smaller scale when Bradford took the darkness from within Kenneth to save his Mind. Somehow, exposure to The Curse through all the human Minds while he was Unshielded allowed it to get a foothold in him.

Lane wasn't sure it would work but he sent a flow of Healing into Brad. Unexpectedly it helped, and Brad's eyes opened.

Re-entering the Link, Brad realized he had only been unconscious for less than a minute.

I... I'm okay, guys. Focus on Drew.

He wasn't entirely okay, and everyone knew it. The other Mentalists collectively formed a barrier in Brad's Mind, augmenting his own Shield, and his pain all but disappeared.

Thanks, fellas.

Henry, still One with his Brothers was aware of what happened and added his own strength to Brad's Shield. He arrived at the Lab minutes earlier and set Drew on the bed of the primary medical exam room.

Henry: Drew's still unconscious, guys. I can't wake him up!

Examining Drew with his Avatar, Pat saw the outline of the bruises, but he couldn't see the damage itself. It was invisible to him and his Avatar, so Lane took over. While Pat focused on Drew, anyone within reach of Brad kept a hand on him, their worry over him just as plain as their concern for Drew.

Removing Drew's shirt revealed bruising, but the marks themselves and the green energy were gone. His skin was pale and cool to the touch.

Lane's eyes turned White and his Avatar lit up on his shoulder as he received a Vision from the Ether.

Confident in what he now knew needed to happen, Lane moved to Drew's bed.

"Henry, pick him up for a second and then hand him to me."

Stripping off his shirt exposed Lane's powerful physique, deeply tanned and full of lean, ripped muscle. He needed skin contact for what was about to take place.

Henry passed Drew back and Lane cradled him in his arms, holding Drew snuggly against him. Then, resting his chin on the top of Drew's head, he increased his own body temperature slightly to help warm Drew up.

Desperately wanting to help his son, Henry's emotions were raw and visible to everyone, and Bryan put an arm around him, holding him tight.

It's going to be okay, Henry. He's in good hands.

Opening Drew's energy Centers, Lane pulled Drew into his Heart along with Loy. Appearing naked together in that special place, Lane still cradled Drew in his lap.

There was resistance in the Link, a sluggishness they had never felt before. With Drew unconscious, they supposed it had to be some residual effect of the Demon's crossing.

Glancing up at his buddies, with a grin and a wink, Lane thought: We'll be right back, fellas.

Lane and Loy dropped all connections from everyone, including their husbands. The sudden separation felt intensely uncomfortable, and the two men clung to one another. Moving against Lane, Loy put an arm over his shoulder, squeezing him with his arm and Heart, making sure he knew he wasn't alone.

Thanks, Loy. It's been so long since I've been apart from Bry... let's get Drew patched up. Not that I don't love you, but...

Ruffling Lane's hair, Loy replied: I get it, bud. Me too.

Kissing Lane's temple, Loy hugged his buddy tight as he placed his other hand on Drew's chest.

Calling on Animal Spirits, the Wolf-Spirit appeared with them, as Loy focused on Drew. Lane fluttered their Souls across the Veil and Listened, using his own Soul and Loys for the Music he wanted.

Their Avatar's glowed brightly in that special place, lighting it up. Wrapping Drew in the liquid Golden Light of their Souls, Lane sent a gentle flow of Healing directly, but separately, into Drew's Body, Mind, and Soul simultaneously. He had never done that before, but his Intuition guided him along with the Vision he received.

His voice gentle, he thought: Drew, buddy, it's Uncle Lane and Loy. Wake up, Tiger. Come back to us.

Drew heard them, but he was very far away. Standing at the Doors, their voices were a faint echo in the back of his Mind, although he felt their Power touch him and it felt wonderful. Recognizing them by their touch on his Soul, he knew each Uncle distinctly through their Hearts, especially his dad.

He wondered why it was only Lane and Loy that called him.

Looking at the Doors one more time, he pondered the empty Seals. In his Vision, one still had Light in it but now they were all dark.

Their voices pulling him back, he woke up.

v

Opening his eyes, he looked up at the faces of his two Uncles. Shivering, the touch of their warm bodies and hands felt good. Lane brushed the hair off Drew's forehead, his eyes sparkling with tears, and Drew saw immense relief in both their faces.

With his hand on Drew's chest, Loy said, "Hey, kiddo. You scared us. Are you okay?"

"I think so."

Lane asked, "Are you still in pain."

"No, sir. You made it go away. Thanks."

Seeing their tears, Drew reached up, touching their rough cheeks.

"Don't be sad. I'm fine. Can we go back to the park and finish the game?"

Lane and Loy laughed, and Lane replied, "Sorry, Tiger, but that's a solid negatory. A big bad Demon just tried to eat you, and you want to go back?"

"I wanted to hit a home run!"

"I bet you do, but we need to figure things out first and make sure you're safe."

Letting out a heavy sigh, a look crossed Drew's face, one of the adult looks he sometimes got. He didn't get them as often as he used to, but he still occasionally had them.

In a quiet voice, he said, "It's starting again, isn't it? I thought it was over when my brother died."

Vowing never to lie to him, Loy said, "Honestly, we aren't sure yet, Tiger, but we heard Luke's voice telling that thing to kill you, and Allenor said you're the Crux of something. We need to figure it all out."

With a sigh of resignation, Drew said, "Okay."

Lane asked, "Are you sure you feel alright?"

"Yes, sir. I just wish I could have hit the ball at least once."

Linked with him they knew he spoke the Truth. He felt fine after the Healing, so Lane took them back to their bodies, knowing Henry was anxious along with everyone else.

Lane and Loy were already One and pulled their husbands and Brothers back in with them.

v

Henry's relief along with the rest of Drew's Uncles was evident when his eyes opened.

Henry grabbed him so tight it hurt, but he didn't say anything, hugging his dad back.

Placing both hands on Drew's face, Henry looked at him intently, asking him, "You're okay?"

Drew nodded and Lane said, "He's fine, Henry. All patched up. That Healing was different than any I've ever done, but he's good. He wants to go finish the game."

That brought a smile to everyone's face.

Smirking and ruffling Drew's hair, Henry said, "You're going to have to take a raincheck on that one, Tiger."

Ken leaned over, his face close to Drews, and said, "I'm glad you're okay, kiddo, but I have to be sure."

Ken didn't do it as often as Drew got older, but he quickly stuck his lips against Drew's belly button and blew a loud, wet raspberry. Drew wiggled to escape and laughed, shouting, "Uncle Ken!"

Grinning, Ken stood upright, patting Drew on his leg, and said, "Okay, I'm convinced."

Everyone else close reached out to touch Drew, just as they did each other, needing the physical expression of touch that matched the touch of their Minds and Hearts.

As everyone started to move towards the door, Drew blurted out, "I saw something. Just before my back started hurting. Like one of Uncle Lane's Dreams, but I was awake."

Looks passed between Aaron and Albrecht, and all the guys, and everyone circled back around him.

Dreams were Lane's Province, and he asked, "Can you show me?"

His eyes flashing White, Drew shared his Vision with Lane. On top of everything else, Lane was astonished Drew perceived Allenor in his Vision, and everyone else saw him through Drew. It was the first time any of the guys beside Lane and Loy actually saw the great being.

In their Hearts and Minds, they groaned. Drew's question to Loy and Lane about everything starting up again echoed among them, and it looked like the time they dreaded was upon them. It was inevitable, but they hoped for longer.

Ken: Sally, I hate `ta ask, but can you keep the boys occupied for a bit?

Sally: Sure, Ken.

Out loud, Sally said, "Boy's, let's see if we can find a movie. I'll make some popcorn, the good kind with cheese."

Bill and Kevin laughed, knowing Brett especially wouldn't be able to resist. Brett would eat his body weight in popcorn, especially Sally's cheese corn if they allowed it.

Her hands on Brett and Tommy's shoulders, she guided them towards the lounge area, saying, "You can each have one soda as an added treat. How about them apples?"

Bullet barked and she laughed, saying, "You'll get a treat too, don't worry."

Cavall and Bullet followed, Cavall to stay close to Drew, and Bullet for the treats.

Ken noted again how pale Brad looked, and his worry increased.

Everybody head `ta the Conference Room. We gotta figure out this thing with B and what happened with Drew.

v

Filing into the Conference Room, everyone sat in their standard seats. Henry, the doctor, and Albrecht were with them.

Once everyone settled, Ken, standing at the lectern, thought: Doc, you said what's goin' on with B is like what happened before?

I believe so, Kenneth. I was worried about Bradford's recent action on such a large scale. Even as powerful as he is, it was an unknown. I understand his reasoning but feared the repercussions. I am glad now that he did not Read everyone and only scanned their Minds.

I believe what is happening is a result of The Master's demise.

Loy: Well, this time we're all Awake and know what to do. Let's find that thing and destroy it before it has a chance to get any more of a foothold.

Brad's eyes glazed over for a brief second and then flashed White as he looked inward.

Brad: You're right, doc. I can feel it. It's similar but different, but it wants to take over. The entity from Ken took weeks to get stronger, but this thing is getting stronger by the minute.

Lane's eyes flashed White, his Avatar coming to life on his shoulder. After everything that already happened that day, he tensed as he received another Vision from the Ether. He knew Remiel wasn't, and couldn't be, the source based on what he saw.

Loy and Kevin's Avatar's ignited simultaneously, a part of what Lane was being shown, which hadn't happened before. It made sense for Loy because he was a Mentalist like Lane, but none of the Bodies had ever been brought in by Lane's Avatar before.

The Wolf-Spirit appeared, standing in the center of the Conference Room table, growling low in her throat.

Ken: What's goin' on? Lane? Loy? Kev? Talk `ta me!

Lane: This is different, Ken. This thing in Brad... somehow, it's part of The Curse. It's like a tiny piece from every normal whose Mind he entered splintered off like a contagion. That's weird, and I don't understand how that can be, but that's what I See.

Pat interjected: It's because he was Unshielded. Exposing himself to The Curse through billions of people without any protection allowed it to jump into Brad. Brad, you can't do that again, not on that scale, or this will happen again. We'll have to do it on a smaller scale with more safeguards if we even try it again.

Lane's brow furrowed, and he continued: Kevin's Avatar is the only way to get rid of it.

Aaron: I think without The Master as the focal point of The Curse, it wants to spread. Like a liquid filling the shape of a container, it wants to fill every bit of space in our Creation. If that is the case, we must think long and hard at the implications. What concerns me the most is the intellect it expressed when Patrick saw it. The entity with Ken was understandable, but The Curse has no life.

Darren: Do you think Luke could have anything to do with this? That Demon seemed to be a blend of the two Creations. Apart from Lane and Loy our Power couldn't touch it, just like we couldn't perceive Allenor, but we could touch it physically.

Albrecht: That's a good question, Darren, and an unknown, but an excellent hypothesis. Perhaps being outside our Creation, Luke has discovered a way to influence The Curse.

Ken: Alright, but back `ta B. How are we gonna fix him? Why did Loy's Avatar react too?

Lane: If the Wolf-Spirit's here, she must need to be involved. Her Power lies in the Realm of Dreams, so maybe we put Brad to sleep so she can help?

Ken: Doc, any opinion on that?

It sounds logical, and it cannot hurt. Even if Bradford is asleep, his unconscious Mind will be with you.

Ken: Okay, are we ready? I want that thing outta him ASAP.

Every one of the men felt the same as Ken, their concern for Brad foremost in their Minds and Hearts. It was a comfort to Brad and helped boost his confidence.

Ken: Let's head `ta the gym.

As one, they stood and filed into the gymnasium. Bryan and Kevin grabbed mats, forming a large area for them to comfortably sit on. Not knowing what to expect, red fire erupted around them as they pulled from their Core Energy centers, oxygenating their muscles. Stripping off their shirts, their bodies shone with a light sheen of sweat, accentuating their physiques.

They wanted total freedom of movement if they had to react physically.

Ken: Power up.

Aaron and Albrecht dropped out of the Link, but Henry remained with them, and on their shoulders their Avatar's glowed brightly as they called on their Sources of Power.

The doctor dimmed the lights, and the colors of their Avatars reflected on their damp skin. In the darkened room, their eyes shone even brighter White.

Manifesting around them, the ghostly image of Yggdrasil appeared as the ceiling darkened, filling with stars and the vastness of the heavens. Wraithlike Lights, Animal Spirits waiting to be reborn appeared, darting around its branches, called by Loy, their Steward.

The other Mentalists flitted their combined Soul across the Veil, empowering the dual nature of their existence as Original, Unfallen Men and Nephilim.

Listening, Lane used the two halves of Ken's Soul for the Music, knowing it would affect Brad even more.

In the Spiritual Realm they glowed brighter and brighter as Light filled them.

Scooting to the middle of the circle, Ken pulled Brad into his lap, his strength and Conviction surrounding his husband, filling him, an immovable wall protecting him. Taking Ken's hand, Brad squeezed it.

Ken: I love you, B. Hold tight and let us do the work.

Lane: Stay Linked with us, Brad, but drop out of the merge, just in case.

Immersing himself in Ken's love and the love of his Brothers, Brad breathed it in, letting it calm him before dropping from the merge. Ken's presence was still present along with everyone else's, and it was an immeasurable comfort.

Shifting positions, each moved to sit at their vector point of the Master Rune that formed when Ken locked them together. Ken learned how to lock them all together, even if one of them was missing, by using the Avatar's of the other's to `fill in' for the missing Primary Avatar. The effect was less, but not significantly so.

Sinking into the warmth and comfort of the liquid Golden Light of their Single Soul, Brad rested against the solid physical strength of his husband. The comfort of their skin touching added to the love and care of everyone around him.

Sending a gentle flow of Healing into Brad, Lane put him to sleep.

Through Brad, the Wolf-Spirit pulled them into the Realm of Dreams. They didn't expect that, and their perceptions shifted immediately.

They were in the gym, but not in the gym, the same as when Henry and Drew physically entered The Master's Psyche.

Henry had the most experience traversing the Realm, and the white lock of hair on his head shone brighter than normal in that place.

In the Realm of Dreams, the Wolf-Spirit could speak, and her voice, strong yet gentle, entered their Minds: We must find the splinter. It grows quickly, faster than it should.

Traversing Brad's Mind in the Dream Realm was entirely different that their usual Mind to Mind sharing and merging. Everything manifested differently, so Henry and the Wolf-Spirit guided them.

Along with Henry's concern for Brad, thoughts of his journey with Drew were at the forefront of his Mind, and his Brothers pulled from his knowledge and experience.

Brad's Mind was extremely well organized, and his unconscious Mind made itself fully open and accessible to them. After living in each other for so many years, there were no secrets between them, and there was no judgment at anything seen. There was, however, plenty of ammunition for fresh shit hanging once things were settled.

Similar to traveling across the Veil, in the Realm of Dreams distance had no meaning, only direction.

Rick caught the first trace of the Entity. His Avatar represented Truth and Freedom, and The Curse invoked the opposite traits. He wasn't sure if it was actually aware of him or if it detected his Avatar and simply fled.

Once they Understood its reaction to Rick's Avatar's, the other Bodies were better able to track it. It was swift and clever as it jumped from place to place, memory to memory, hiding within Brad's Mind.

The Wolf-Spirit called her Pack to help hunt it through Brad's vast Intellect.

Disturbingly, they cornered it in the memory of Ken's fight with the first creature that almost killed them, the one that drove he and Brad down to the place where their Minds merged for the very first time.

Inhabiting the form of Ken's broken and twisted body in the memory, it seemed to grow in Power.

The Mentalists threw out White Ropes of Power which were ineffectual. When Ken was under the Blood Curse, their Power couldn't touch him either. They didn't panic but it was unexpected.

Brad's unconscious body appeared on the beach next to the bonfire where he crossed The River the first time with the help of Lane, Darren, Loy, and Bill.

So much was happening on a metaphorical level, and somehow it all fed into the creature, making it stronger.

In the Physical Realm, Brad started convulsing, and Ken's fear spiked. Not knowing what else to do, he activated their physical bond, merging their nervous systems. Using his mastery over his own body, he calmed Brad's nervous system, holding him still.

Inside Brad's Mind, the Entity hissed at Ken for his interference.

Kevin focused on the creature, drawing from everyone, but it eluded him, flitting from place to place.

Trying to flee, the Wolf-Spirit's pack, along with everyone else, managed to keep it corralled in the specific memory, but they were unable to touch it, and its Power grew every second.

The smell of popcorn filled the kitchen. Drew, Brett, and Tommy were trying to decide which movie to watch. Doctor Aaron built a huge movie library for them and they always had a hard time picking one. Usually, their Uncle Lane would help them find a good one, but he was busy in the gym with all the adults.

While working through their choices, Drew lay on the carpet against Cavall, rubbing his belly. Bullet lodged himself between Tommy and Brett, nosing their hands for attention if either one of them stopped petting him.

Thinking he heard something in the gym, Drew glanced in that direction. A sudden burst of images came to him, all jumbled up, occurring so fast he couldn't make them out. Slowing his perception of Time, he realized what he saw was his Uncles. Terrified, he saw Ken, naked and covered in blood, with broken bones protruding from parts of his arms and legs.

Terror hit him at the sight, and he cried out, "Uncle Ken!"

Jumping up, he ran towards the gym as fast as he could. Cavall went after him, growling low in his throat as he saw the images in Drew's Mind.

Sally, "Drew! What's wrong, honey?" Drew!"

Ignoring her, Drew was desperate to get to his Uncle.

Seeing everyone in the gym, eyes closed and glowing brightly, he realized he saw what was happening in their Minds.

Everyone but his Uncle Brad was merged and Shielded, with Brad's head and torso cradled in Ken's lap.

Knowing he wasn't supposed to merge with any of them, he didn't know what else to do. He had to help Ken, and Brad was the only way to get to him.

Kneeling down, he put his hand on Brad's chest, delving into the Mind and Heart of his Uncle.

vv

In the Realm of Dreams, Ken appeared with Brad in his lap, just as they were in the Physical Realm. The other guys and the wolves formed a barrier around the memory they were in, trapping it but unable to catch it.

It seemed a stalemate, but as more time passed, the Entity grew in strength, and the stronger it became the weaker Brad got. Trying to Shield Brad, the Entity was a part of him and inside him, and their protection had no effect.

Finally, it stopped running, appearing mere feet from Brad and Ken. Once it was still, they threw everything they had at it, and Kevin focused intently, the Light of his Avatar turning liquid as he brought the Curse altering effect of his Power to bear.

The Entity screamed, but Kevin's Light splashed off it. Turning towards Brad, it started to reach out. If any of them died in the Realm of Dreams, they would die in the Physical Realm too, and it wanted to consume Brad and escape the memory it was trapped in.

v

Suddenly, Drew was there, kneeling beside Brad and Ken, with his hand on Brad's chest, just as he knelt in the gym.

As soon as Drew arrived, his Mind was at the Doors. The Light was back in the Twelfth Seal, and he pulled from it the same way he pulled from The Stone. The Light filling the Seal seemed a part of him, and he instinctively knew it.

Seeing both versions of Ken, Drew didn't fully understand, but he felt The Curse in the bloody, broken version of his Uncle and knew it had to be stopped.

Screaming loudly, "Get away!" he held out his other hand, and the Light from the Seal shone forth, stopping The Entity in its tracks.

Whatever Drew did allowed their Avatars to work against it, and Kevin's glowed brighter. Their surprise and worry at Drew's appearance drove them to be more than equal to the task, and Kevin's Avatar started working. Once he had a grip on it, with everyone backing him up, the Entity quickly weakened as they overwrote its existence.

As shocked as any of them at Drew's sudden appearance, Henry rushed forward, throwing his arms around his son. He had no understanding of how Drew came to be there, but it was apparent whatever he was doing helped; however, his instincts were still to Protect his son without interfering with his efforts.

Whispering in Drew's ear, Henry said, "I'm with you, honey. Just keep doing what you're doing."

The Light shining forth from Drew's hand seemed to reflect on the white patch in Henry's hair, making it seem even brighter.

It wasn't long before The Entity vanished, completely overwritten by Kevin's Avatar.

Drew wasn't breathing hard, and looking at Ken and Brad, he asked, "Are you okay, Uncle Brad? Uncle Ken?"

Afraid his Uncles might have been hurt, he was crying, and the pitch of his voice was high.

Sitting up with Ken's help, Brad pulled Drew and Henry against him, feeling immense relief with the Entity gone.

Concerned at Drew's presence, Brad pulled back enough to ask him, "Are you alright? How did you get here?"

Sniffing, Drew said, "We were trying to pick a movie, and I heard something. I looked towards the gym and saw Uncle Ken, but hurt, and it scared me. I ran into the gym... I'm sorry Uncle Brad. I know I'm not supposed to do what I did, but you were the only way for me to get here. I had to be sure Uncle Ken was alright, but when I got here and saw everything... I felt how bad that thing was. It looked like Uncle Ken, but I knew what it really was."

Brad asked, "How did you stop it, Tiger? We couldn't touch it, but you did. How did you do that?

"I was in both places. I was at the Doors from my Dream, but I was here too. The Light in the last circle was back, and I used it."

Ruffling Drew's short hair, Brad kissed him on his cheek, saying, "Well, thanks, Tiger. I'm fine now because of you. I love you."

Crying harder and hugging Brad tightly, he said, "I love you too, Uncle Brad."

One of his arms reached out, encircling Ken's neck, and he said, "You too, Uncle Ken. I couldn't let anything happen to you guys."

Ken's throat tightened at Drew's unexpected show of affection. The strength of his grip showed how much he meant what he said.

In that place, Henry looked into his son and seeing he was alright, immense relief ran through him.

Trying to lighten the mood, he said, "I swear what some of you guys won't do for the cherished `favorite Uncle' spot. You guys are going to drive me to an early grave if you keep this up!"

v

With Drew's arms still around their necks, Ken pulled Brad into a private merge, wrapping everything in him around Brad's Soul.

Fuck, B! That whole thing scared the shit out of me! Are you sure you're alright?

I'm good, Ken.

Laughing, Brad continued: You were scared? How the hell do you think I felt? We need to look long and hard at what happened. It looks like The Curse has changed in some fundamental way we didn't expect or predict.

God, I'm glad you're alright.

Ken's shaking told Brad how much it rattled him.

In the place where their Souls were One, Brad held his husband until he settled, proving his presence by holding him tightly.

Taking a deep breath, Ken said: Fuck, I'm the one who should be holdin' you. You're the one that had that fuckin' whatever the hell it was inside you. Come here.

Sitting down, Ken pulled Brad down with him. Then, spreading his legs, he drew Brad against him, between his outstretched thighs, and wrapped his arms around him. Especially when they were naked, that was Brad's favorite way to be held in that place.

The warmth and strength of his husband wrapped around him, not just his arms but the strength of his immovable Soul. Ken's Avatar flared and his Will and Conviction filled him, flowing into Brad and all their Brothers.

Staying silent, Ken rested his chin on Brad's shoulder. Occasionally he rubbed his cheek against Brad's, or kissed his shoulder, or buried his head against Brad's neck, just loving him and resting in the intimacy.

Neither man knew how long they stayed in the place where Time didn't move, but they both chuckled when they snapped out of their own little world within themselves.

Ken: Fuck, I know I say this all the time, but I could stay here forever.

Both men felt Lane's presence briefly. It was extremely gentle and only lasted a second, but suddenly Ken's stomach let out a colossal grumble of hunger.

Brad started laughing so hard he almost cried as Ken hollered out: Lane, you fuckhead!

Lane's presence increased again, and he said: Just making sure you two lovebirds are still alive in there.

v

Standing, Ken pulled Brad up with him and said, "Alright everybody, get your coffee and hit the head. Let's meet in the Conference Room in five. We have a lot `ta talk about."

Unsure what happened, Sally's eyes were wide, but Brad caught her attention and winked.

Everything's fine now, Sal. We just had a little scare.

You mean another one besides the thing that tried to kill Drew at the park?

Brad sighed and thought: Yeah. It's been a day.

Drew seems upset. Is everything alright?

Honestly, I'm not sure. At the moment, yes, but long term, you're guess is as good as mine.

Do you need me to occupy the boys again while you guys talk?

If you don't mind? I hate asking you.

It's fine. They're just like their dads and easy to distract with food. Once they hit puberty, though, you guys are on your own!

Brad couldn't help the laugh that blurted out of him at her comment.

While Brad and Sally spoke, Kevin and Bill went to the lounge to make sure Tommy and Brett were okay. They had been totally freaked out by the Demon, and Drew's sudden behavior had them confused.

Hugging the boys tight, they promised to talk to them before dinner, assuring them that all was currently good and they should finish the movie while the adults had an important meeting.

vv

In less than five minutes, the guys, the doctor, Albrecht, and Henry, were in the Conference Room. Standing at the lectern again, Ken looked at the faces staring back at him.

Drew's question, "It's starting again, isn't it?" rang through their Minds.

The last three years had been largely uneventful, at least compared to what went on before. They still hunted pockets of Enemy Agents in hiding, but without the constant threat of Luke and The Master, their lives settled somewhat into a sense of normalcy.

The young soldiers and their families under their Protection in the Uluru base returned to their lives. Brad and the other Mentalists did what was necessary to reinsert them after their year-long absence.

Craig graduated from college, continuing in the Navy ROTC Program and choosing the Marine Option, went through OCS and was now an officer in the US Marine Corps. However, Glenn Hampton and the other fathers, except for Kent Peterson, wanted nothing to do with Ken and the guys.

One of their more challenging decisions was taking care of Marjorie Peterson. When Kent returned from death, essentially twenty-five years younger and in perfect health, it presented a long-term issue with him and his wife. With his reformation, they reconciled and fell in love all over again, but the age difference made itself felt.

Looking through the Primary timeline and thousands of side timelines, while Lane saw some ripples, it wasn't a big enough change to cause anything catastrophic. Presenting the option to Kent and Marjorie, the couple accepted the guy's offer to de-age her.

After being re-inserted into the world, the young soldiers, along with Craig, Kent, and Margie, had to follow the no contact rule, just as Tag and Olive had. The need for The Order's secrecy was still crucial, but all of them had emergency contact mechanisms in place should the need arise. With the doctor's help, the young soldiers were all stationed near each other and kept in close contact. Before the no contact rule went into effect, Albrecht left them a long list of books to read and study, and they all continued their physical regimens.

Unexpectedly, Kelly and Jacob called off their budding relationship, and Jacob returned to his career in the Marines while Kelly remained in Australia. The doctor set her up in a place to live in Sydney with a stable income. The no contact rule for her was different because she was Awake.

All the guys Mentally spoke with her regularly, and Albrecht and the doctor continued tutoring her on her abilities and helped with Chloe. She showed no interest in reconnecting with her family, and the doctor arranged to change her last name and erase her past.

She was often present in Atlanta to train, but her heart was in her home country, and with the main danger gone, they saw no reason to uproot her life any more than it already had been. Moreover, she was an intelligent, smart woman, almost unrecognizable as the runaway Darren first brought into their fold.

Even after everyone settled into their new lives, Ken didn't let up on their training, knowing one day Luke would return. Without the need to operate the other bases, they were put in Sleep Mode except for Atlanta, and all of the guys moved back into their houses. The exception was, in Atlanta, one couple still remained on duty to be with Henry and Drew. They did visit the pool in the Congo base often to help vary their training.

With the unknown of Luke's return still hanging over their heads, Ken insisted Henry and Drew remain living at the Lab, but with minimal restrictions. As a result, Drew spent more time out of the Lab, and Henry was able to give him a small semblance of a normal childhood.

The three boys studied under Sally's homeschooling along with input from Aaron and Albrecht, and their friendship deepened even further.

Henry and Drew's living situation would never be normal, but it was a far cry from what it had been.

The guys maintained their relationships with their Archangel relatives, which improved even more. Ken, in particular, enjoyed his sparring time with Michael, learning additional, alternate katas based on The Quintessential Dance.

All the guys regretted keeping the knowledge of Allenor and the First Creation from the Archangels, but it remained a unanimous decision.

Oddly enough, Raphael never broached the subject with Brad after Luke's disappearance, so Brad assumed it was a `puppet-string nudge' that made him forget and didn't bring it up.

v

The last few years flashed quickly through Ken's Mind, instigated by Drew's question, and as he looked at his buddies, he said with a smirk, "What a day, huh guys?

"So, Luke's not exactly back, but somehow he can send things through from wherever he is."

Pat said, "That Demon was different than anything we've faced. I could see part of him with my Avatar, but there was a lot I couldn't. Somehow, it was a mix of the two Creations. That shouldn't be possible."

Ken asked, "Doc, do you have an opinion on that?"

"As Patrick said, it should be impossible based on everything you told me of Allenor. The two Creations are not compatible, and any essence between the two should result in a catastrophic reaction, similar to what happened at Taggart and Olive's house. It appears to be a Paradox. Perhaps the creature was not truly a part of both, but of our Creation and the space between them. Unfortunately, there is no way to verify that."

Brad mused out loud, "I wonder why Luke didn't come through. His voice sounded strange too. It was definitely him, but different."

Brad had everyone deeply Linked, and Henry's tension and anxiety were apparent.

In a strained voice, he asked, "What do you think Allenor meant about Drew? I thought once The Master was gone, Drew's part in all this was over?"

Loy, closest to Henry, leaned over and put a hand on his shoulder.

The doctor said, "It appears his role is not yet finished and more important than we were originally aware of. I am sorry, Henry, if that is the case. You know everyone here will do their utmost to Protect him. However, his importance is a secret we must delve into quickly and discern the meaning of Allenor's statement."

Darren spoke up, saying, "We haven't had any luck uncovering the other Gifts so far, either. Allenor said we need to find them, and `only then will we See.'"

With a heavy sigh, Rick said, "So the pressure's on again."

Taking a deep breath, Ken said, "Well, we have the new bases, so we're better prepared against Luke."

Albrecht interjected, "We don't know if the Runes will protect against these new Demons."

Bill asked, "Guys, I know we decided to keep Allenor and the First Creation under wraps from our grandparents, but given what happened, do you think we should reconsider? We might need the firepower against those Demons, and if Luke's involved, they'll be able to help."

Bryan interjected, "If we do, I don't think it's going to go well."

Looking directly at Brad, Bill continued, "You remember how hurt you were when you realized Raphael had altered your memory? Hell, we all were but especially you. We got past it, but this is going to seem an awful lot like payback for that. Of course, we have our reasons just like they had theirs, but still..."

Ken sighed, "Yeah, that would suck."

Lane piped up, "Hey, I have an idea."

A collective groan around the table caused him to shoot a bird at all his buddies.

Merging so often, Lane knew what Raphael said to Brad right after Luke fell into the Rift.

v

Brad replied, "I'm sorry if he's gone.  I know he wasn't always like he is now.  I was hoping we could find a way to bring him back."

Sending a private thought to Brad, Raphael said:  Perhaps you still will.  I will come to you soon to discuss this in private.  You know something, but now is not the time.

v

"He never came to you, and we all have a pretty good idea why. Show him that conversation. If his memory was altered, like he did to you and us, it will show him that God didn't want him to know. It might make our decision not to tell them easier to swallow."

During their conversation, Henry's Mind spun further and further into a tailspin. Images kept flitting through his Mind of Drew dead in his arms and then playing ball at the park that morning.

His fear of Drew dying again hit him hard, and it was so consuming it overwhelmed him.

Immediately, Brad merged them, taking them so deep Time stopped moving.

Aaron and Albrecht removed themselves from the merge, sending a private thought to Brad.

This is best suited to be handled between you as Brothers. Henry knows we love him as our own, and we will have our own discussion with him after you all have settled him.

Appearing naked to one another in all aspects, Henry's pain was so real it hurt all of them. The Paradox of that place where their Souls existed allowed each of them to hold Henry simultaneously.

His tears so thick he could barely see, Henry grabbed all of them desperately. Brad stilled his Mind, giving him a reprieve from the intense emotions running through him.

"I can't lose him again, guys. I got him back, but I'm not going to lose him again. It can't happen."

Ken said, "It won't happen, Henry. We won't let it, you know that."

Brad interjected, "We don't even know what his role is yet, Henry. We need to find out more."

Wiping at his face, Henry said quietly, "I wanted this to be over for him."

Loy said, "We all did, Henry, but like Brad said, we need to find out more."

"Fuck, I'm sorry, guys. I'll get my shit together."

A collective, over-exaggerated sigh ran through all of them, and it made Henry laugh despite his tears.

Lane said, "We've been over this whole `thanks guys' for years, Henry."

Smirking, Henry said, "Yeah, I know. Now I do it just to piss you off. You're all so easy to mess with."

Internally, and Henry felt it because he was One with them, their Hearts brightened a little over his response. He knew how worried they were about him and just as much about Drew.

"I'll put on my big boy pants. Sorry for overreacting."

Loy laughed, saying, "You didn't overreact. You reacted like the awesome father you are, and we'd rather you not do that, thank you very much. The pants that is."

"Are you still perving on me? After all this time?"

"Well... yeah! It's what I do, and you're seriously perv worthy, especially Henry Jr."

Henry knew the banter was to lighten his spirits, and it did. Over his initial reaction, he loved his Brothers for what they did for him and how they cared for him.

Staying deep within themselves, they grouped in a circle, pressed together, arms over shoulders and legs intertwined. Eventually, Henry felt better, and as the doctor predicted, his Brothers settled him.

Their conversation quieted, and they closed their eyes, resting in one another and the liquid golden Light of their Souls. It was so comforting they didn't want to separate, and with Time not moving they stayed there for a small eternity.

v

Once Brad brought them back to their bodies, Ken resumed their meeting. No longer merged, Brad still kept them in a deep Link.

All their eyes were bright from the intense shared intimacy of the merge, and Ken cleared his throat so he could continue.

"Alright ladies, let's go around the room. I want a concise opinion on whether or not you think we should bring our grandparents in on this. Dar, you're up first."

Darren presented his thoughts, followed by Pat, and they went around the table. Aaron and Albrecht were always last because Ken didn't want their opinion influencing anyone else. Their mentors always had a unique and wise way of looking at things, bringing their vast knowledge and experience to the table.

After Henry's encounter with God, he also had a profound insight, and Ken greatly valued his opinion.

The general consensus was, although they thought the initial reaction of their grandparents might be bad, with all the unknowns and their abilities limited in facing Luke's new Demons, they felt they had little choice.

Once the decision was made, it was also unanimously agreed upon that Raphael was the first one they should tell, which left it to Brad to take the brunt of any initial repercussion.

Still at the lectern, Ken said, "Alright, we've covered a lot. It looks like things are rampin' back up. We knew it would happen; we just didn't know when, and we have no way of knowin' when Luke will hit us again.

"As of right now, we're back on alert status. I'll change the roster, and two couples will now be here at all times `ta be close `ta Henry and Drew. Henry, as much as it hurts `ta say this, our outings with Drew are gonna have to stop for the foreseeable future."

Henry replied, "I'll talk with Drew tonight after dinner, but I think he already knows. He's a smart kid. Thank God he takes after me and not you yahoos. Except for the doc and Albrecht, that is."

Laughing, Ken continued, saying, "Bill and Kev, the same thing applies `ta Tommy and Brett. We don't know if they're on Luke's radar, but we aren't takin' any chances.

"Let's reconvene tomorrow after B talks with Raphael. How we move forward will depend on how that goes.

"Does anyone have anythin' else `ta add before we break up?"

Unexpectedly Bryan spoke up. His deep, gravelly voice sounded hesitant when he said, "Ken..."

Stopping, Ken looked at his Brother, knowing Bryan didn't like being the focus of attention. He long ago got over his embarrassment of speaking in their meetings, so he wondered at the hesitancy in Bryan's voice.

"Come on, Bry. What's goin' on in that noodle of yours?"

"This just hit me, so I'm thinking out loud. If all this is starting up again, I need to go check on Leroy and The Tree. I need to make sure he's alright. Aside from that... well... I'm wondering if the `puppet strings' are going to start again.

"If this is the start of our confrontation with Luke, we'll be on Purpose. We know our Avatars send out Ripples we don't even know about, and we've come up empty on trying to find the other Gifts."

He paused briefly and said, almost wistfully, "I think the Gifts are going to start finding us."

Everyone, even the doctor and Albrecht, sat stunned and wide-eyed at his statement.

It made perfect sense, and they wondered why none of them thought about it earlier.

The significance of who and what they were didn't stay in their conscious Minds so much anymore, but their second Purpose and the reason they were created was still profound beyond words. Their ultimate goal was to remove The Curse, save Creation, and restore man to his original Unfallen state.

Ken's pride towards Bryan filled the Link, and it was just as great as Lane's.

The doctor's eyes were bright as well, and he grinned at Bryan, stating, "Well done, my boy."

Ken muttered, "Jesus, Bry. There's always so much more goin' on in that head of yours."

Reaching over, Lane put his hand on the back of Bryan's neck and shoulder and said, "I am so hot for you right now."

Everybody cracked up, and Ken said, "That's my line."

Winking at Ken, Lane said, "I get why you say it all the time."

Ken continued, "Okay! On that note, let's call it for today. We'll have another pow wow tomorrow afternoon, and then it's back `ta regular training on Monday. We'll let you all know tomorrow what happens with Raphael unless it's bad, and then you'll know immediately."

As everyone stood up, Bryan said, "I'm making spaghetti for the boys tonight. I'll make extra so anyone who wants to join us be here at 01900."

Pushing the remote for their garage door just as Brad turned the corner onto their street, Ken fist-pumped when the door was open by the time they pulled in the driveway.

Shaking his head, Brad couldn't help but smile. It was one of Ken's little kid idiosyncrasies that were so endearing. With a few hours before needing to be back at the Lab for dinner, they decided to knock out working in their yard.

Being summer in Georgia, it was hot and humid. It was late July and in the low 90's, but there was a nice breeze.

Going into the house to change, they came out wearing shorts, no shirts, their ballcaps, and sunglasses. Ken mowed the grass while Brad edged and trimmed, enjoying being out in the sun and working on their tans. Apparently Leslie, their neighbor, enjoyed it too because she suddenly appeared in her front yard, pretending to work in her flowerbed.

Remaining deeply Linked, the two men, best friends, lovers, and literally Soul mates, chatted in their heads, joking around and hanging shit on each other and enjoying each other's company while they knocked out their chores.

They were both sweaty by the time they were done but not soaked. Enough to have a nice sheen to their bodies that accentuated their physiques. After bagging the grass clippings and leaves, they rinsed off using the hose in the backyard before jumping in the pool to cool off.

Going back inside, Brad made them a quick snack to tide them over until dinner, and they jumped in the shower to wash the chlorine out of their hair.

Even after all their years living together, one of their favorite things to do was shower together. Not because it usually led to great sex, but because of the intimate, familiar bonding time. Washing each other became a ritual, and neither man ever got tired of touching or being touched by their Soulmate.

After their shower, wearing just a towel around his trim waist, Ken went into the den and plopped down on the middle of the couch directly under the ceiling fan. Spreading his arms out he leaned his head back, enjoying the air moving over his damp skin.

His heightened sensitivity was another thing he had difficulty getting used to after the initial changes in his body, but he enjoyed air moving over his skin. He especially enjoyed Brad's breath on his shoulder or neck when they slept.

Coming down the hall from the bathroom, his hair still wet, Brad saw the back of Ken's head on the couch.

Moving up, as he leaned over Ken opened his eyes, smiling back at his husband. Leaning down, Brad gave him a quick kiss before moving around to the front of the couch.

Ken's thighs were spread wide, and with his arms stretched out and sitting in the middle of the couch there was no room left for Brad.

Grinning, Brad dropped his towel and opened Ken's before crawling over and straddling Ken's waist. Ken had the ceiling fan on high, and Brad turned it down too low with his Mind.

When Brad sat down, Ken's arms immediately dropped, and he put his hands on Brad's hips, gently rubbing his legs with his thumbs.

Brad: What'cha thinking about?

Ken's little kid grin appeared as he answered: You mean aside from how sexy my hot, naked husband is who just sat in my lap?

Laughing, Brad replied: Yeah, besides that.

Just about today. Everythin' that happened this mornin' with Drew, and you, and Bry's comment. It's a lot `ta take in! And your pendin' discussion with Raphael. It's gonna suck big time if they get pissed and cut us outta their lives.

I don't think it will come to that, Ken. Lane's idea is a good one, and I think it will make a huge difference. Raphael, Michael, and the rest have changed even more the last few years. We'll see.

While they chatted, Brad put his hands on Ken's upper chest by his neck and started gently running them over his shoulders and torso. The heat and solidity of Ken's body was something he never got tired of feeling, and adding to the visual of Ken sitting inches away from him, he became aroused. His touch caused Ken to get erect too.

At the same time, they both looked down and then back up to make eye contact, and Brad thought: Oops. That wasn't my intent.

That can wait, B, if you wanna talk some more.

I think I'll wait until tomorrow to talk to Raphael. I want to mull over the conversation in my head a bit more. I need to cover my bases and have answers ready to whatever he may bring up.

Okay, that's your call. You know I'm with you one hundred percent, and I'll be there when it happens. I'm not lettin' you outta my sight, especially for somethin' that has potential `ta go sideways.

A short pause followed, and then out of the blue, Brad thought: I love you, Ken.

Ken's forehead creased in curiosity and a hint of concern.

I love you too, B. I still don't feel I tell you as often as I should.

Brad chuckled, thinking: Well, you usually tell me at least four or five times a day. I'm the one who feels he doesn't say it often enough.

You don't have to. Every time you touch me, I feel it. I mean literally, with you and me, your Empathy never turns off.

His expression turning more serious, Ken asked: Why did you feel the need `ta say it now? I feel like I'm missin' somethin'.

After today, and everything starting up again... I don't know. As dangerous as The Master was and that whole situation, there was always the possibility of some of us dying. Some of almost did. Hell, a few of us did die temporarily. I don't know... I'm just a bit unsettled, I guess. Tackling Luke is going to be much harder, and if Raphael and the others bail on us after my discussion, our chances go down a few notches.

Let's drop back a bit, B. I get what you're sayin'. Believe me, I do, but there are so many unknowns at this point it's hard `ta even find a startin' point. So, we break it down into manageable parts, like we always do. No matter what, it looks like Drew is front and center again, so we make it about him and all of us along with it. We watch each other's backs.

Ken grinned, trying to lighten the mood.

Not our asses, our backs.

Brad chuckled, shaking his head as his hands continued roaming over Ken's neck and shoulders.

We protect each other like we always do. The doc'n Albrecht are more a part of it this time. I'm still glad they decided `ta merge with us. It was a whopper when we did it... the things they've seen and done, and not all of it pretty. I still can't get my head around livin' as long as they have.

I understand the doc's apprehension, but he didn't need to be. He knows that now and he and Albrecht are such a blessing in our lives, now more than ever. Henry too. He's grown so much, but I'm scared for him, Ken. Just like us, he feels so much deeper than a normal human, and he's terrified for Drew.

I know, B. We'll just have `ta be there for him as much as ever.

I'm worried about Kev and Bill too, with the boys. God, if anything happens to them...

It won't. We'll have `ta make sure of it.

We'll lean on each other as much as we need to, but you're smart, so I'm not worried.

Brad knew what was coming and rolled his eyes in advance of Ken's next comment he so clearly telegraphed.

You know what smart talk does to me, right?

Looking down at Ken's member, he smiled.

Lord, you are so predictable. Did you get hard after Bryan made his revelation today?

Grinning, Ken admitted: Well, yeah, a bit. I put a lid on it quick so no one could give me shit about it, though, but yeah.

During their entire conversation, their hands never stopped touching each other. Then, leaning forward, Ken's wrapped his arms around the small of Brad's back, pulling him forward and pressing them together as he started a kiss.

Brad's internal clock told him they had an hour before they had to leave to head back to the Lab for dinner.

Chuckling again, Brad thought: Poor Bry and Lane.

Why?

They're at the Lab making dinner, and everyone else is doing the exact same thing we are.

Sucks `ta be them! If I know those two horndogs, they'll catch up quick enough. For now, though, let's get down `ta business.

Raising himself up slightly, Brad used his Mind to position Ken's erection and sank down onto him, groaning in pleasure as he did so. Knowing they were going to have sex after their shower, he was lubed up and ready, and Ken smirked when he realized Brad planned their activity.

I should've known... and the guys call me a whore!

Ken tensed at the sudden pleasure and then let out a sigh. Then, not shielding their Aura's, they lit up the Spiritual Realm like a star as they made love to each other.

Each of them got so much fulfillment in pleasuring the other, sharing the intimacy of their bodies and Souls, they really didn't know how they ever managed before their first Awakening. Before, it was just physical sex with a strong emotional attachment, but these days... well, there just weren't words to describe it.

Dinner was great as always. As Brad deduced a few years before, Bryan's love of cooking translated in a magical way he wasn't consciously aware of. Everything tasted fantastic, and as usual there were no leftovers.

The boys were allowed an hour of television after dinner each night and then had to match their TV time with reading. As a result, under Sally's tutelage, enhanced by the doctor and Albrecht, the three boys were far more advanced in their education than boys their age in the public school system or even private schools.

The cartoons that night were re-runs, so after a quickly whispered pow wow, the boys approached Lane, who was in the kitchen with Bryan while he made snacks.

Ken, Kevin, and Loy were in the kitchen too, shooting the shit. Lane grinned when the boys came in. Lane was their `go-to' Uncle when it came to cartoons or movies for them to watch. According to the boys, he always had the best ideas.

The boys were extremely tight, still referring to each other as brothers rather than cousins. They had cottoned on to strength in numbers when trying to convince their dads or any of their Uncles of an idea that might be a `no.'

The conversation stopped as the boys all moved to Lane, looking up at him.

Glancing down, his usual mischievous grin present, Lane said, "Hello, little men! Why do I feel like you're about to butter me up for something?"

The boys giggled and Drew said, "Uncle Lane, it's all re-runs tonight. Do you think we could watch..."

Drew glanced over at Henry, who raised his eyebrows, knowing Drew wanted to watch Deadpool.

Drew's shoulders slumped, and he lowered his head, saying, "Never mind."

Lane laughed, "Yeah, whatever you were going to ask was probably a big no, but leave it to your favorite Uncle. I have a present for you three young men I think you'll really like!"

The boy's faces lit up, and in their Link, the guys immediately started giving Lane shit.

Lane kept his present hidden in the `Present Box' they all used for birthdays and Christmas, so no one knew what it was.

"You guys go back to the TV, and I'll be right there."

Henry couldn't help laughing as he shook his head, saying, "You're such a suck-up, Lane. You spoil those kids."

Lane responded, "Between Bry's snacks and my unchallenged domain of vintage cartoons and kids shows, I'm just establishing our hold as the undisputed rulers of the `favorite Uncle spot."

Going back to the mini-apartment he and Bryan used when they were on duty at the Lab, Lane retrieved his present for the kids.

The boys waited, and the guys gathered to see what Lane had come up with.

With a flourish, he presented them with a Blu-Ray Digitally Remastered Limited Edition of the original TV show Lost in Space, complete with behind-the-scenes interviews and deleted scenes.

As they excitedly opened the package, Bryan appeared with individual popcorn bags for each boy.

Lane said, "Ok guys, we can squeeze three episodes in before bedtime."

Cries of "You're the best, Uncle Lane, and Thanks Uncle Lane" were heard all over the Lab. Getting down on his knees, the boys gave him hugs and kisses, excited to watch the show.

Lane settled on the couch, his arms spread out to make room for the boys to scoot in for a snuggle.

Cavall and Bullet were on the floor in front of the couch, always near Drew.

Suddenly, a low guttural grunt came out of the kitchen, and a massive lion lumbered in, plopping down on the carpet in front of the TV.

Cries of "Alright, Uncle Loy!" were heard as the boys vacated the couch, leaving Lane all by himself.

As the opening theme music started, the boys cuddled into their warm, furry Uncle Loy.

Loy's voice through the Link stated: Sucks to be you, Lane!

Everyone got a serious laugh out of Loy's maneuver, and more shit-talking ensued about Lane being all alone and so easily usurped, but after that everyone settled in.

Most of them had seen some episodes as kids, but never all of them, especially the early black and white ones. All of them were riveted to the screen for the next hour.

v

After the first three episodes, the boys begged to watch just one more, and Henry, Bill, Kevin, and the rest of the guys were so into it they caved.

Glancing over, Henry got nods of assent from Bill and Kevin, so he said, "Okay, just one more, and then it's time for bed. You know the drill. One hour of reading, then teeth brushed, faces and hands washed and ready for bed."

The boys knew better than to argue, so when the credits rolled, Bill and Kevin teleported back to their house with Tommy and Brett, and everybody but Darren and Pat teleported back to their houses. Darren sent Sally, the doctor and Albrecht back to their houses.

Drew, still trying to be like Henry, came out of the locker room bathroom with just a towel around his waist. He and Henry shared a mini-apartment, but Drew had been sleeping in his own bed the last year. Wanting to be a grown-up, eventually he and Henry got used to sleeping apart.

Sitting at his desk, per the rule Drew read for an hour. He was currently reading The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper and was infatuated with the story of Will Stanton, the last of the Old Ones, who fought the Dark. The main character was only slightly older than Drew, and he related to the story in a way no other boy could.

He still slept naked, and when it was time to go to bed he kissed Henry goodnight, stripped off his underwear, and crawled into bed.

As soon as he closed his eyes the image of The Doors filled his Mind, and he couldn't shake it. Something about the Light in the last circle...

Exhausted after a day of intense emotional excitement, Henry fell asleep quickly. Drew heard Henry's soft snoring in the quiet of the night, a sound that usually put him to sleep. He missed sleeping with his dad and the warm strength of his Protection and still secretly vacillated between wanting to be with his dad and being a grown-up.

Wondering again at what happened that morning, he dreaded what it meant. He didn't understand any of it but knew his time out of the Lab would be severely limited moving forward.

Clutching the rings around his neck, his mother's soothing presence surrounded him, and immersing himself in thoughts of her and memories of the times he still slept with his dad, he fell asleep.

v

Immediately, he stood at the Doors, but this time for real, witnessing the battle between the man in armor and the strange-looking being. His Uncle's called the creature Allenor, and they had met him before.

In the Dream, Drew cried out, reaching for his back as the pain returned.

Hearing the same ripping sound, the fight stopped as both beings turned to face a Demon crawling through a tear in the fabric of Reality.

v

Henry Ross, awake!

Henry shot up in bed. A heavy sleeper, he was groggy, but he panicked at the sight of the Wolf-Spirit on all fours at the foot of his bed. She looked corporeal.

Am I asleep?

You must hurry! The cub has gone to a place I cannot follow! He is in great danger! Go to him now! Wake him!

v

Snapping awake and shooting out of bed, Henry ran to Drew's room, panicking. Drew thrashed about on the bed, crying but asleep.

Grabbing him, careful not to hurt him, Henry gently shook him.

"Drew! Wake up, honey! Wake up!"

Drew's eyes flew open, and for a moment they were glazed like he was still somewhere else.

Breathing heavily, he threw himself into Henry's arms, not saying anything. Henry felt his trembling and ran a hand up and down his back.

The warmth and strength of his father's body surrounded him, Protecting him once again. Memories of being terrified before the confrontation with The Master came back, and how Henry was always there, a solid, immovable wall that never ceased to keep him safe.

Those thoughts always brought back earlier memories of his mom and the abuse of his birth father, Doug. The physical scars of those days were gone, removed by his Uncles, but he would never forget them. It made him love Henry all the more for giving him a new life and loving him unconditionally, despite the hardships that came from Drew being who and what he was.

"Are you alright?"

Drew cried but wasn't hysterical, and after a minute he started to calm down. The Wolf-Spirit was back at the foot of his bed, barely visible, but he felt her presence. The only light in the room came from a small lava lamp Lane gave to Drew a few years ago for his birthday.

"I think so."

Henry pulled back, and one hand cupped the back of Drew's head and the other his cheek. Feeling cold in the aftereffects of wherever he went, Henry's hands felt good.

"Can you show me what you saw?"

Drew's eyes flashed White, and the image of the armored figure and Allenor fighting and the Demon's appearance filled his Mind. He flinched at the pain in Drew's back when the Demon tore through Reality, similar to that morning.

Turning Drew, the marks were there but fading, already nearly gone.

Darren: Henry? What's going on? My stomach is doing flip-flops. I sensed you're awake and now Drew. Is something wrong?

Fuck, Darren. The Wolf-Spirit woke me up. Drew was having a Dream and she couldn't get to him, so she woke me up. She said he was in danger. I woke him up, and he's upset. God, Dar, I don't know what's happening. If the She can't guard his Dreams, and you guys can barely touch those new Demons...

Henry's anxiety spiked again, and Darren and Pat pulled him down into the place where their Souls were One. Then, wrapping Henry in their arms they formed a barrier around him.

Darren pulled Drew in with them, not into their full merge, but into their Hearts so he would feel their Souls around him as well, and Pat and Darren comforted them as best they could.

Privately to Henry, Pat thought: I don't know what to tell you, Henry. This is all new and sudden, but you know we'll do everything in our Power to keep Drew safe. You too.

I know, guys. Really, I do. You know I don't doubt you. Fuck! I was just starting to give him the semblance of a normal life! He loves playing ball! He loves getting out with Tommy and Brett and playing and being ten years old.

Darren chuckled, replying: I'm not pissing on your parade, Henry. You know that, but Drew's never going to have a normal childhood. Even playing baseball and working out with us in the gym. With The Master gone, he's now the oldest living Soul in existence. He's already Powerful and getting stronger all the time. He lives with ten half angels and an amazingly hot, powerful Protector of a dad. Did I mention how hot his dad is? Well, if not, he's hot!

Darren's commentary broke the seriousness of the moment, and Henry thought: You've been hanging around Lane too long. Or maybe Loy.

Giving Darren a serious side-eye, Henry thought: Perv.

Laughing, they hugging him tighter, and Pat thought: It's not the same, Henry, but we can make Constructs for the boys to play ball in. To them it will be real. We can take them places and do things. We can fill in the gaps in the Lab and keep them occupied. That way, they'll be perfectly safe. We should have thought about that before.

But they may not be safe, guys.

Pat and Darren didn't have an answer and couldn't reply.

Darren brought them back up with Drew and thought: We haven't done this in a while, but I want you two to come in with Pat and me. I think we'll all sleep better if you do.

Henry looked at Drew, asking, "What do you think, Tiger? You want to sleep with me and your Uncles tonight?"

Darren interjected: You mean his favorite Uncles.

Drew smiled and nodded enthusiastically.

Pat said: Alright, get your butts in here.

Naked, hand in hand, father and son padded down the hall and crawled into bed with Darren and Pat.

Keeping Henry and Drew between them, they wrapped their Souls around them, keeping them in a deep Link where they could feel the love and Protection around them.

Putting his therapeutic training to good use, Darren rubbed Henry's back and shoulders until he drifted off to sleep. Drew glanced down and saw the Wolf-Spirit at the foot of the bed and her presence, adding to everything else, sent him off into a dreamless sleep.

Ken woke earlier than normal. He and Brad were in their usual position, and Ken lay awake, spooning his husband while watching him sleep.

Wondering why he woke before his Mental Trigger went off at 0600, he realized it was a thread of apprehension about Brad talking to Raphael. He had no idea how the Archangel would respond to the revelation they were going to spring on him.

Rather than try to go through all the what if's, he stilled his Mind. Then, still amped up from their lovemaking before they fell asleep, he went deep within himself, practicing some of his Mental exercises to pass the time.

After that, he made mental notes of the tasks for the following week. His main worry, other than Brad's impending discussion, was The Gifts. He prayed Bryan was right, and they would have some success soon. With only Lane and Loy able to affect Luke's new Demon's, and even then not to full effect, they were seriously handicapped in their ability to defend Drew.

Ken felt Brad's Mind stirring to wakefulness and he smiled, resettling them both to be more comfortable, with Brad's head resting on his chest.

Ken: Mornin' handsome.

Morning, Ken.

Brad raised his head for a quick good morning kiss and then set it back down, content to lay on Ken and enjoy the moment.

It was Sunday, so no workouts were scheduled. Originally, they were going to take the boys back out to the park in the afternoon, but that wasn't going to happen now.

As if on cue, Ken's stomach rumbled. Brad's ear resting Ken's chest magnified the sound, and with his senses augmented after their lovemaking, it was extremely loud. He couldn't help himself and laughed.

If there was an Olympic sport for that, you'd be the Gold Medal Champion of all time. Let's do our PT run, and then I'll make you breakfast.

Ken set their pace, and running to a park near their house they ran five miles on the track before jogging back home. Then, jumping in the shower, they washed each other and got each other off, exchanging their DNA so their Powers would be at full effect.

Making omelets with hash browns and toast, Brad smirked and thought: Sorry my hash browns aren't as good as Franks or even Bryan's.

Naw, yours are even better, `cause I love you.

Oh, God, put a lid on it.

Laughing, Ken admitted: Okay, but they're still damn good. You're a fantastic cook, B. Why don't you do that thing Bry does?

Honestly? I've never figured out how he does it. It's so natural for him, I'm not sure it's anything he could show me even if he wanted to. I asked him a long time ago when I realized what he was doing and he just shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't have a clue.

Damn, I didn't think there was anythin' you couldn't figure out.

Well, I hope I can figure this thing out with Raphael.

Are you ready `ta talk `ta him?

Yeah, I think so. Let's get the kitchen cleaned up and I'll call out to him.

v

Over the last few years, all the guys started learning the First Language from the Book of Loagaeth.

The doctor counseled them on the danger, but if their ultimate goal was to remove The Curse over mankind, they would need to speak it to full effect.

They found the Archangels considered it a courtesy when they used the First Language to call on them, saying it makes it easier to hear them. They always heard their names in any form, but using the First Language caught their attention quicker.

In perfect form, Brad intoned his grandfather's name in its High Form: Raphael!

Almost immediately, a ball of Light appeared in their den, expanding into the form of Brad's angelic grandfather, wearing his customary blue jeans, snug white t-shirt, and brown leather jacket.

Smiling, Raphael said, "Hello, Brad. It's wonderful to see you. You as well, Ken."

Opening his arms, he invited both men in for a hug. Hugging an angel was special, especially when he wrapped his wings around you. Bringing tears to their eyes from the indescribable joy, for that brief moment they knew what it would be like to be in Heaven.

Brad said, "It's great to see you too. Thank you for coming so quickly."

"Have you called me to visit? Or is something amiss? You seem tense."

Brad indicated they should sit and said, "I need to talk to you."

Ken sat in a chair across from the couch and Brad sat beside Raphael, turned to face him.

Starting with a deep breath, Brad asked, "I know our Tree wards any Evil, but would you mind warding us completely. It's important our discussion go no further for now."

Raphael's expression didn't change, but they felt the wave of Power that formed the ward he placed over the house.

"Thank you."

Another short pause followed as Brad collected his thoughts.

"Before I start, I want to reiterate to you how much you mean to me, grandfather. I know we've had a few bumps, but that's in the past. I love you very much."

Raphael's brow furrowed, wondering where the conversation was headed.

"I want to show you a memory and see if you have any recollection of it."

Holding out his hand, a tiny memory sphere appeared over Brad's palm, bobbing gently. The memory was of Luke being sucked into the void between Creations.

Raphael took it, absorbing it.

Brad nodded almost imperceptibly, and Raphael turned away.

v

"Do you remember making that comment to me?"

Raphael's eyes widened. Memory spheres, the same as Mind to Mind communication, cannot lie.

His expression serious, he replied, "No."

"I didn't think so. You never came to me, and I wondered."

Raphael seemed shaken, and Brad put a hand on his knee.

"Are you alright?"

"No."

His voice held a quiver, expressing how unsettled he was.

"Well, I know how you feel. I felt the same way when I realized you had altered my memory, and all the other times God did it to me when I tried to set Triggers to ask Istariel about his `father.' The question is, who could have altered your memory, besides God?"

Raphael's reply was a whispered, "No one."

"I know you're conflicted about this. You told me once it's not in your nature to question the Creator."

"You are right. He must have his reasons, and I should not be bothered by it, yet I am."

The struggle on his face was real, and Brad and Ken were worried for him, feeling terrible for being the source of his distress.

"Why did you show me this memory? Why now?"

"Something happened, and we may need your help. Let me show you everything."

A larger memory sphere appeared, containing the events of their discovery of Allenor, the last remaining being from God's previous Creation, their inability to perceive him except for Lane and Loy through their Gifts, and freeing him to search for God to be unmade.

Following that history, Raphael saw the previous day's fight with the Demon and Luke's voice calling out from the Void, directing the Demon to kill Drew and Allenor's statement about finding a way home yet being forbidden. He also included Drew's description of The Doors, the armored figure, and the Seals all being dark but one.

After Raphael absorbed it, Brad asked, "Does any of that make sense to you?"

Raphael paled at what he saw, physically shaken, and replied, "No. How can any of that be? Our Creation is Infinite and Eternal. There can be no other."

"It was difficult for us at first too. The Intuitive nature of our Avatars told us it would be wrong to involve you and our other grandparents at that time. We thought it best, for many reasons."

Brad's voice, filled with Compassion, said, "We need to find out why He did it then."

Raphael sat in silence, not knowing what to say.

Finally, Brad said, "I'm sorry if we hurt you. It wasn't our intent. We knew you couldn't perceive Allenor any more than we could, so our proof was flimsy at best. Even merged with Lane and Loy, we couldn't see or hear any of their interactions with Allenor."

Raphael sat quiet a moment before asking, "Will you allow me into your Congo facility?"

Brad glanced at Ken, who looked just as surprised by the question.

Ken replied, "We'll need a group consensus, but I'm sure we can do that. We configured the Rune Matrix so all ten of us have to be present to add anyone, temporarily or permanent."

Raphael pressed, his voice intent as he pushed, "Can you communicate with your Brothers now?"

Brad's eyes turned White and he pulled everyone, including Aaron, Albrecht, and Henry, into a deep Link.

Quickly explaining Raphael's request, all of them had questions or guesses why he would want to go there. Of course, the fact that Allenor was imprisoned there for billions of years was the most likely, but they knew Raphael couldn't perceive him...

Finally, Ken asked: B, Lane, do you or any of you other Brainiacs have any sense about us lettin' him in the base?

None of them did, so Ken thought: Okay, then if no one has any solid objections, let's take a vote.

Henry, Aaron, and Albrecht were not part of the Rune Matrix, but Ken always included their opinions and input when big decisions were made. They particularly valued Henry's insight. After being touched by God, he had wisdom and insight that often matched or surpassed the doctor and Albrecht.

It was a surprise to almost everyone that Aaron concurred. He had always held a deep-seated distrust of the Archangels because of their manipulation and influence in the creation of his adoptive sons. Hey rightly surmised they had an agenda and might not have their best interests at heart.

His opinion of them had softened since Luke's disappearance, but not entirely. However, he explained in light of everything that happened the previous day, they needed Raphael's help and the help of the other Archangels, so he acquiesced to the general consensus.

With Aaron's input, the decision turned out to be unanimous, but only for a single visit. Then, after gauging Raphael's reaction to everything once his request was granted, they could re-evaluate making it permanent.

Coming back up in Time, Raphael looked at Brad expectantly.

Brad said, "Give us a few minutes, and I'll call to you."

Ken: Dar, take us there. Doc, I need you, Albrecht, and Henry to stay in Atlanta just in case.

Seconds later, standing at the Rune Matrix in the Congo Base in Africa, Brad called out: Raphael!

He appeared instantly. He did not smile at any of them or acknowledge anyone but Brad, which was very uncharacteristic.

"Is this the chamber the creature was imprisoned in?"

"Yes. This is the central chamber. There are many other, smaller areas included in the cave structure, but this is the largest and the heart of the base."

"Show me precisely where he was."

Lane moved to where Allenor's head was and Loy his feet.

"You may wish to cover your eyes."

Raphael assumed his True Form with no more warning, a glorious being of pure Light, spreading his wings out to full extension, hovering off the floor.

Lane's Avatar reacted, and the other Mentalists immediately realized they were slipping backward in Time. In seconds the base dissolved around them and Allenor appeared, chained to the floor, although only Loy and Lane perceived him.

Abruptly, they stopped moving, and Raphael assumed his human visage.

Addressing Brad, Raphael asked, "The creature you call Allenor is here now?"

"Yes."

"You said whatever Power kept the cavern system from moving stopped as soon as he was freed?"

"Yes."

Casting his senses out and looking around, Raphael said, "None of my Brethen preserved this cavern."

His statement was a startling revelation; they all assumed that one of the Archangels kept the massive cave system intact.

Re-assuming his True Form, Time started flowing backward again. Only Lane, in a Dream sent by Remiel just before Drew's confrontation with The Master, had ever been so far back in time.

Their journey slowed, and Raphael spoke to all of them, saying: Tell me when we are before the creature's imprisonment.

The Light Raphael gave off illuminated the chamber in the Spiritual Realm, allowing Lane and Loy to see Allenor.

Suddenly Allenor vanished, and Lane and Loy called out: Stop!

When their movement came to a halt, they were stunned. Drew's birdman, The Dove, sat on the ground by himself, seemingly waiting for them.

Raphael immediately prostrated himself, saying, "Father."

Stand, my Child.

Raphael stood but remained silent with his eyes downcast.

Smiling at them all, The Dove said, "It's nice to see you in person again, Ken. It's nice to see all of you in person. I see you every moment of every day, and I never tire of being with you. I am so proud of all of you here, and those not currently with you. Tell Drew and Henry I said hello. Aaron and Albrecht too."

Turning back to Raphael, he said, "I understand your confusion, Raphael. You have questions. Speak freely."

Raphael held his head up, and Light trails spilled down his cheeks. His voice shaking, he asked, "Is it true? The Other Creation?"

"Yes, it is. It is separate from this one and a part of my Plan."

"I... I don't understand."

"Does the fact it existed diminish you in any way? Or take anything away from you? You are my Child, one of my First Children, and I love you dearly."

"It should not, but I am unsettled by it, and I do not know why."

"You and your Brothers have grown so much, Raphael. What you feel is natural."

Raising his arm, indicating Brad and the others, he said, "Before your interaction with my Third Children, you were not ready, and the knowledge you now hold might have Broken you."

Raphael almost sounded angry when he said, "I would never betray you!"

"No, you wouldn't, but it would have hurt you still, and I did not want that for you. I am very proud of you, Raphael. Your Wisdom saw what was happening when no one else did, and you moved to correct what you perceived.

"Your actions were not of my doing – you saw it. Then, you brought your Brethren in, wanting to bring the conflict to an end. You served my Purpose without my instruction. Your actions still fell within your Provinces, yet you all still acted of your own volition."

Moving in front of Raphael, The Dove cupped his cheek and smiled.

"You have proven yourself repeatedly, and your intentions are pure. What Luke took by force, I give you as a gift. Your Brothers will follow in their own Time."

Raphael's eyes widened, and he stumbled.

"You still have your Province to govern, but now I wish you to be happy. Truly happy. You have always been Loyal but never truly happy of your own Free Will."

Brad's eyes widened when he realized what just happened. God bestowed Free Will on an Archangel!

Instinctively, whether it was proper or not, Brad grabbed his grandfather and squeezed the life out of him.

In his Mind, directly and privately to Raphael, he said: I'm so happy for you, Grandfather!

Raphael was still too stunned to respond, but he returned Brad's hug.

Every one of the guys reached out to touch him, just as they did among themselves, expressing their happiness for him.

Raphael turned to The Dove and tentatively asked, "Father?"

"Yes, Raphael?"

"Did Luke's Fall have anything to do with finding out about the First Creation?"

A pained look crossed The Dove's face, and he quietly said, "Yes. Luke disobeyed my Edict and entered the Temple. What he found there and what he was exposed to corrupted him. Leaving there Broken, he was not prepared for the revelation and became jealous that others existed before him. His Pride could not stand the thought, and that knowledge drove him to Rebel."

Turning back, his gaze passed over each of the men. They met his Ageless Eyes, Eyes that held all Creation, the First and Second, and he smiled. His smile was just like Raphael's wings surrounding them, but Deeper.

Grinning, he turned to Lane specifically and said, "My Purpose here is done, and you all must continue on yours. Remember, to Everything there is a Season, and a time to every Purpose under the Heaven."

Winking, he said, "Share that with your Brothers, Lane."

With that, he simply wasn't there any longer.

Suddenly, Lane's eyes watered and he choked up. Deeply Linked, Bryan knew the intense feeling running through his husband. The last time it was so strong was when Jegudiel told Lane he often spoke with Tolkien and the Inklings in Heaven.

Bryan actually laughed, hugging Lane tight while everyone else looked at him, wondering why he felt like he did.

Ken asked, "Lane?"

Lane blurted out, "The Byrds! God listens to The Byrds!"

Loy said, "Of course he listens to the birds... he created them!"

Geeking out, Lane could barely get the words out, "No! 1965! The Byrds! Turn, Turn, Turn!"

When the penny dropped, they all laughed, shaking their heads, and Bryan's deep gravelly voice said, "God, I love my nerd!"

Only Bryan heard God's voice in his Heart say: Yes, Bryan, I know, and it pleases me greatly.

Everyone was back in Ken and Brad's house with no sense of transition, with Raphael still in his human attire looking confused and lost.

"Grandfather? What's wrong?"

"I... I am unsure what to do."

Brad's Avatar lit up brightly on his shoulder, and Wisdom and Compassion filled him. He realized what a radical transition Raphael now faced. It must seem daunting, but on an eternal scale he couldn't comprehend.

However, just as Ken said to him the day before, breaking things down into manageable parts always allowed for a better perspective.

Putting a hand on Raphael's shoulder, he squeezed him in comfort and said, gently, "Well, you still have your day job, right?"

Raphael's smile brightened, and he actually chuckled, saying, "Out of the mouths of babes. You are correct, Brad. Thank you."

It was a simple statement but also incredibly grounding, giving Raphael his regular framework to focus on.

His brow furrowing, Brad asked, "So, Grandfather, are you mad at me or us about keeping everything from you?"

Raphael's smile faded, and he said, "No, I am not. I was upset, but Father was right; I wasn't ready to hear it before. Knowing what I know now does not diminish me in his eyes or my own. If Luke appears again or sends any of his underlings, call to me and I will aid you."

Tentatively, Ken asked, "Are you gonna talk `ta Michael?"

"Yes, Ken, I will talk to all my Brethren soon. I don't know what their reactions will be, but I will encourage them to come to you and hear from you directly what you shared with me."

Raising his eyebrows, with a heavy sigh, Ken said, "Yeah, fun times!"
