Introduction

And on to Chapter Three... Pat got his Gift! Yay! But, as always, when the Nephilim are away, Luke will play... (insert ominous music here).

The Gifts is a little more challenging to write than The Order (believe it or not). The main characters are already established, so there's not as much character development in that area. They are still growing and always will, but it was fun watching them grow into their Avatars. Now we get to watch them grow into their Gifts!

Drew is a little harder to write, as well as Tommy and Brett. Being a little older their dialogue is different. But the guys themselves are fun, and I enjoy their interaction whether they are shit-talking or fighting. I like spending time with them in my head, and I suppose you do to or you wouldn't be here.

I want to thank all of you that have sent me email. It means the world to me to hear from you. Lots of old friends from when The Order first came out and while it was in progress. It's great to see a lot of the old faces, and a few new ones. I appreciate all of you so much! Some of you are making good guesses at a few things but I promise no spoilers.

My email contact is at the end of the chapter if any of you wish to write me with questions or comments.

-Brad

<>< Chapter Three ><>

A collective sound of `fuck me's' and `holy shits' followed Németh's statement.

Pat didn't hear them. As soon as Németh turned to face him, Pat's attention became riveted on the orb. His Understanding fired off so intently it blinded him to everything and everyone around him, saturating his senses with an Understanding of The Gift.

It called to him.

Almost in a trance, Pat closed the short distance, stripping off his gloves. His Avatar glowed so brightly it was blinding even through his Kevlar suit.

The other Bodies Understood what was happening and their husbands through them, and their excitement spiked; excitement for Pat and for their cause and what it meant for their ability to Protect Drew.

Remembering the doctor instructing Loy to remove himself from all Links before accepting The Gift from Giovanni, as Pat reached to touch the orb Brad separated him from all active Links.

He did it gently but absolutely, following his action by merging everyone else into One. The transition was abrupt, but his memory of the doctor's statement became theirs and they understood his action.

Aside from doing it for their safety and Pat's he also didn't want Darren to be alone. Deep in their Hearts where their Souls were One Darren's brothers surrounded him, intending to hold him until he could be in Pat again.

The instant Pat's flesh came in contact with the orb it exploded in a torrent of energy swirling around him, and his Avatar came to life, matching its brightness, colors, and patterns.

Ken: Everybody stand back!

Brad strengthened their Shields, not knowing if what was happening could be dangerous to any of them. He didn't think so, but there was no point in taking chances.

The two Gifts already acquired by Lane and Loy came from previous hosts, Lane's from Taliesin and Loy's from Giovanni, and they didn't know how the transition would occur with Pat's Gift being separate from a living host.

Following Ken's command, everyone fanned out in a circle with Pat at the center. Németh backed away as well, observing everything.

The orb itself vanished, leaving the energy contained within it to swirl in and around Pat's hands briefly before arcing directly into his Avatar. The energy transition was intense, especially to the other bodies, and through their Understanding they watched Pat's Gift become One with his Avatar.

Falling to his knees Pat looked upwards, thrusting his arms outward and arching his back while Light burst forth from his eyes and mouth as if his body couldn't contain it, shooting like a beacon towards the ceiling.

His consciousness expanded outward uncontrollably, and with it his Understanding. Before, he Understood what was immediately around him and within his line of sight. Before, he perceived the Laws of Physics around him and the relationships between everyone and everything he could see.

The Laws of Creation were now a part of him, running through him, and he could change them. His Gift plugged him into Creation, and his White eyes widened.

Unprepared for the sudden and abrupt transition of Power and knowledge, he passed out.

Within himself, in the place where his Soul resided, Pat stood with The Dove as the tiniest pinpoint of Light appeared before them, far too small to see but clear to his Understanding.

It was Creation; his Creation, the Second.

Unsure if it expanded or he shrunk, he merged with it, and for a brief moment, he Understood everything.   He was as much a part of it as it was now a part of him, and all the vast knowledge of it became apparent.

His Mind still finite, he couldn't contain the infinite knowledge, but for the briefest of moments it was present within him, and he Understood it.

Spending a small eternity in the place where Time didn't move, he assimilated it all while The Dove stood with him, holding him and rejoicing with him.

Seeing The Dove's smile, Pat distinctly remembered a conversation he and his Brothers took part in before their final confrontation with The Master.

<>

Pat: I see the Pattern, even with all the holes in it, but I don't know the Meaning. One day we'll know enough. I'm not sure what we'll do when we get there. We'll probably be helpless to do anything about it by then.

Ken: We can still punch God in the face if that's what we need `ta do. I know he's the Grand Poohbah, but what gives him the right...

Sighing in resignation, after a pause, he continued: Hell, I guess that gives him every right, doesn't it?

Rick: That doesn't mean we have to like it. We know, and He knows, we could royally fuck things up for Him if we want to... not that we would, at least intentionally. There's just more going on than we know, and we'll have to be patient until we know more.

Brad: There's always the chance we'll agree with him once we know everything.

<>

Brad's words echoed in his Mind, and he knew why The Dove smiled. Pat saw it all and couldn't contain it, but one day he would.

His Heart, unable to contain the love and joy The Dove held for him, felt as if it were about to burst.

Reaching out, The Dove cupped Pat's cheek and thought: Return to yourself, Pat, with my blessing.

<>

Rushing forward Darren caught his husband, and in only a few seconds Pat's Mind returned to consciousness.

He didn't need his Understanding to know it was Darren who caught him. He knew his husband's touch, and waking in Darren's arms, Pat's eyes fluttered open.

The concern on Darren's face and in his voice was evident as he asked, "Fuck, Pat, are you alright?"

In one sense Pat felt utterly alone and isolated because Darren and his Brothers were absent from his Mind and Heart, but through his Gift he was more aware of them than ever, although in a different manner. It wasn't the same by any means but knowing they were there and all a part of each other made their absence bearable.

Looking at his husband, Darren's anxiety hurt to see and he delved back into his Soul mate. With Darren already One with everyone, Pat appeared with them in their collective Heart and Soul.

Smiling, he said, "I'm fine, Dar."

After a slight pause he continued, muttering, "Damn, that was intense. It still is."

A big part of why he felt alright was the communal presence of everyone around him. Not only their concern, which he was eternally grateful for but for their unconditional love encasing him as soon as he was back. It was a foundation of his existence, and he relished it.

It was also the heat of their bodies, their warm flesh pressing in on him, and their arms holding him. In the Paradox of that place, each of them simultaneously held him, squeezed him, ruffled his hair, and expressed their concern for him.

Helping Pat sit up, Darren couldn't keep his hands off his husband, keeping a hand on his shoulder and cupping the back of his head. Aside from Darren's Empathy and his emotions bleeding through his touch, Pat Understood his loving concern more acutely than ever.

As soon as Pat sat up and everyone got a good look at him, another round of `fuck me's' and `holy shits' followed. His eyes sparkled, holding all Creation in them just like their archangel grandparents and the incarnations of God. Looking into them, the depths of Creation stared back.

Taking a deep breath to settle himself, Pat's eyebrows lifted in surprise at seeing his eyes through theirs. Based on what he now knew, the change in his eyes made sense although he hadn't expected it.

Seeing into everyone deeper than ever, his brow furrowed. Fully comprehending the place within their Avatars where their Gifts would reside, he Understood Allenor's original comment about them being receptacles and not whole until acquiring them.

Glancing at his shoulder first, his gaze then moved to Loy and Lane. Their Gifts, and his, were tainted, corrupted, and not fully functional. Exposed to The Curse through previous hosts, or in his case Eschphene Magic, they were less than they should be, and a collective `fuck' rang through their Minds at his revelation.

Pat's seemed less affected, but it was still far from operating at its full potential.

Heading off any negative thoughts, Ken said: This is still a huge fuckin' plus in our favor, guys. Now three of us can affect Luke's new Demons and protect Drew better.

In his body, Pat stood and moved to Németh.

"I don't know how to thank you, Németh. I know what this means for you and your people."

Németh smiled, saying, "It belongs to you, Patrick Manning. You are now part of the Balance, with the responsibility that entails. I do not mourn giving you what is rightfully yours."

"But the Temple..."

"...is but a building. We hold our tenants in our Hearts and Minds, not structures. I must go now and seal our new home from within. Then, when we are strong again, I will lead my people back here to rebuild, or perhaps somewhere new."

Once again, Németh's inner tranquility reminded them so much of Albrecht.

Moving forward to stand beside Pat, Ken held out his hands for Németh to grasp.

"It's an honor `ta know you Németh. Your people couldn't have a better guide and leader. Take care of `em, and if you ever need our help, come `ta us."

The rest of the guys reached out, adding their hands briefly on top of Németh's in a show of support and loyalty.

Finally lowering his hands, Németh said, "Much rests on your shoulders once again, my friends. I cannot foresee your fate, but I have faith you will succeed and Protect the Balance. Have courage and be well, Nephilim. Until we meet again..."

In a flash of orange Eschphene magic, he vanished.

Silence fell in the gym after Ken, Brad, and the rest of the guys vanished.

Aaron and Albrecht were by the door, but Henry still stood in the middle of the room where he stayed with his Brothers until they left.

Waiting until Henry moved to them, Albrecht dimmed the lights.

Taking a deep breath, Henry broke the silence by saying, "I'll put on a fresh pot of coffee. It's going to be a long night."

The three men went into the kitchen, sitting together and worrying about the guys.

Taking Henry's hands in his own, Aaron stated, "I know you wish to be with them, Henry."

Sniffing, his eyes wet, Henry replied, "I do, but my place is with Drew. I reconciled with that fact long ago, but I still feel conflicted when they leave. I want to be with them... help them. They're so much a part of me; it's hard to be away from them. Plus, I could make a difference.

"I'm glad I have you two. It would be so much harder if you weren't here."

Albrecht said, "You make as much or more of a difference Protecting your son. You know this."

Henry's expression changed abruptly into a smile, and he chuckled, mimicking Lane's voice perfectly.

"God, I'm such a whiner."

Even the doctor smiled, but he said, "You are most assuredly not that, my boy. I understand being pulled so strongly in two different directions. Your feelings are natural, but you must never feel guilty for those thoughts."

Knowing the separation he felt, Aaron and Albrecht deepened their presence within Henry's Heart, but there was little to be done about it given the situation. Henry's potential loneliness still weighed heavily on them, as well as his Brothers.

If only Liz hadn't died... but if she hadn't sacrificed her Soul to save Drew from the Eschphene, The Master would most likely still be alive. Of course, the `what if's' were endless, and Henry stopped those thoughts before he sent himself into a tailspin.

After their recent encounter with God and his statement, Lane's favorite new quote echoed in their Minds... `to everything, there is a purpose.' Whether quoted from the Book of Ecclesiasties or the song by the Byrds, they knew it to be truer than ever.

The three men sat late into the night, worrying and waiting for Ken and the others to come home.

<><>

Sound asleep, Drew Dreamed, and the Wolf-Spirit nudged his Dreams towards happy memories. She often did so when he was unsettled, even suffering the indignity of playing ball with him along with Cavall and Bullet. Nurturing him to the best of her ability, she had come to love him as one of her own and would do anything for him.

It still astounded her how slowly humans grew to maturity. If still in her corporeal body, she would have birthed at least three litters since the Steward bound her to Drew.

Cavall and Bullet slept on his bed, pressed against him, twitching and making noises while running and playing in his Dreams. She was glad they were with Drew, especially Cavall. He offered Protection in the Physical Realm while she guarded his Dreams.

Cavall would make a fine and noble sire if she could still bear pups, and perhaps when their tasks were complete she might beseech the Steward to bring her back into the world to mate with him.

Drew missed the physical contact and warmth of his father when he slept, and while not the same, Cavall and Bullet offered great comfort to him, and she was glad because physical comfort was one thing she could not provide.

In Drew's Dream he was back in the park, the day sunny and bright with a slight breeze. Henry and Liz sat in the dugout watching him play with the dogs, throwing the ball to see who could get it first.

Much like a puppy, he never seemed to tire of the game. On his last birthday, his dad bought him an Atlanta Braves uniform, and his uncles got him a catcher's mitt, a new glove, cleats, a cap, multiple bats, and a bag of balls.

Wearing his uniform, he practiced his windup, letting the dogs chase the balls and bring them back to him.

His arm finally starting to tire, he threw one last pitch.

Henry called out, saying, "You're doing great, Tiger! If you get a strike, I'll spring for a milk shake."

Drew heard his mother say, "You're so good with him, honey."

In his Dream, Drew's life was perfect. His mom still lived, his parents loved each other, his brother, The Master, was gone, and his uncles and everyone he cared about were safe.

Letting the ball go, Drew watched it slow. He wasn't slowing his perception of Time and wondered at it. Finally, the ball stopped midair and his vision seemed to close in on it.

Once again, a moment of extreme lucidity came over him, and his perception moved through the ball to somewhere else...

Torn away from his Dream, Drew returned to The Doors where the Wolf-Spirit could not go. This time, however, before howling a warning to alert Henry, Aaron, and Albrecht, the sound of fluttering wings calmed her.

At The Doors again, Drew watched the armored warrior battle the colossal creature known as Allenor. Behind them were the twelve Great Seals, all dark but one, and in his Mind's Eye Drew realized the Light of the last Seal came from the warrior.

Curious, he cautiously inched forward. The scale of the Temple was enormous, and looking around, the Great Hall so long it faded to a bright Light before he could see the end of it.

The noise of the fight increased as he crept nearer, allowing him to hear the warrior's voice, speaking a language he didn't know. It sounded beautiful, and somehow his Mind comprehended the meaning and intent, allowing him to understand the words.

"You cannot pass, Remnant. If you do, you will destroy everyone and everything! I cannot permit you, even if I wished! The Curse of the Second Creation holds The Doors shut, and I can no longer open them!"

The warrior sounded familiar, but the helm distorted his voice enough that Drew couldn't identify it.

Sudden, searing pain across his back caused Drew to stumble and fall, crying out as claws appeared in the air, ripping a hole through from the Void where Luke now resided. The Demon's claws, glowing neon green, cut into Drew as it crawled forth, and he fell to the ground, screaming and writhing.

For the first time, Eleleth registered Drew's presence. Alarm showing in his posture, he instantly wrapped Drew in his Protection, Shielding and isolating him from the Demon's effect.

Drew's pain stopped as soon as Eleleth's comforting presence surrounded him, similar to when the birdman hugged him, but different. Eleleth's Light touched his Soul in a way that had only happened once before, and he felt indescribably content and joyful.

Get behind me, Child.

Allenor, watching the Demon rend the curtain between the Void and Heaven, realized what it was. Hearing the human child cry out, he looked, perceiving Drew and the Crux of The Curse within him, what it represented, and how it kept The Doors shut. It did not seem possible, yet it was so, and everything he witnessed reinforced the truth of The Archon's words.

With the revelation of what the child embodied, he could not allow the Demon to kill Drew and prepared to help Eleleth.

Emotions for Allenor's people did not exist as they did for Origin's second Children. His people were driven by logic and reasoning, and while emotions existed, they were not in the same form as humans, having little bearing on their thought processes. He had no wish to destroy the Second Creation merely for the sake of returning home. Such an act of selfishness was incomprehensible to him, driving his decision to stand down and aid The Archon.

The Doors were a Nexus between Creations, the one he was from and the one he was trapped in. Mere feet away, a passage between them existed but was kept shut, no longer by the Seals but by the boy.

Running behind Eleleth, Drew bathed in his Light.

The Light of the Last Seal.

The Light of the last Archon.

Drew watched, fascinated yet no longer frightened, as Eleleth turned to face the Demon. Holding his sword before of him, Light crackled around him like lightning, arching from the blade to cover the Demon. Fighting and struggling, the Demon was quickly torn apart by Eleleth's Power and in only a few seconds, it vanished.

Realizing his help was not needed, Allenor slowly and quietly turned, fading away to continue his quest for Origin and seeking to be unmade.

Staring at Allenor, Eleleth beheld the tragedy of his existence. Seeing everything he mourned the plight of the great being but could do nothing about it.

With Allenor gone and the Demon vanquished, sheathing his sword, Eleleth turned to Drew and knelt.

Are you hurt?

No, Sir.

How did you come to be here?

I'm not sure. I started Dreaming about this place a few days ago.

You come here when you Dream?

Two times now. The first time I saw you fighting, Granny-Wolf said I was in danger and my dad woke me up.

The Curse Protects you, as it does The Doors through you, but you should not be here. Your Granny-Wolf, whoever she is, is correct. This place is dangerous for you in many ways, even tied to The Doors as you are.

Something about Eleleth calmed Drew. Not his Light or his powerful body so like his dad and his Uncles, but something else he couldn't discern, something familiar.

Taking off his helm, Eleleth smiled and reached down to cup Drew's chin in his gauntleted hand.

Go now, young Drew. Return to your body.

Drew was too stunned to talk. The face under the helm smiling at him was his father, Henry.

<><>

Eventually, the three men decided to go to bed. With the Time differential between the Pale and the Physical Realm so unpredictable, it could be hours or days before the guys returned.

Saying their goodnights, Aaron and Albrecht hugged Henry tightly before retiring to their rooms.

As quietly as he could, Henry entered their small apartment and disrobed. He never settled until he was sure Drew was alright and padded to Drew's bedroom door to check on him.

Drew never kept his door shut unless Henry was taking a nap and through the cracked door, the dim light of his lava lamp lit the room in a warm, soft glow.

Surprised, Henry found Drew sitting up in bed. The Wolf-Spirit, Cavall, and Bullet were in their usual spots, with Drew's hands resting on the two dogs.

Quietly, Henry whispered, "Drew? What's the matter, honey? Why aren't you asleep?"

For a brief second Drew seemed somewhere else, and then he started. When Drew turned to look at him, Henry saw the sparkle of tears in his eyes and immediately became worried.

On seeing Henry, relief flooded through Drew and he quickly crawled to the edge of the bed, got down, and moved to his dad.

As soon as Henry knelt, Drew's arms went around his neck and shoulders, seeking comfort. He wasn't crying or sweating, but Henry knew his son well and he seemed upset.

Linking with his son, Drew's extreme anxiety was apparent, and Henry's big arms immediately encircled his son, running a hand up and down his back. Both of them were naked, and Henry knew his body heat and the touch of their skin would help soothe and calm him down.

Having showered before dinner, Henry smelled clean and fresh, and the scent of his after-shave and deodorant were always a comfort to Drew. Burying his face against Henry's neck, Drew breathed in his fathers' unique scent and felt better immediately.

"Drew? What's wrong, Tiger? What's got you upset?"

Lifting his head up, Drew looked into Henry's eyes and said, "I Dreamed again, and this time the man in armor talked with me."

This time it was Henry's anxiety that spiked. Picking Drew up, he moved them to his bed, setting Drew down and spooning his son, wrapping him up like a cocoon.

Calming himself, he didn't want to send Drew into a tailspin from his reaction, so Henry pulled Drew into his Heart to match the heat and comfort of their physical contact.

Images flashed through Drew's Mind of the white lock of hair on Henry's head and how often it reflected Power and sources of Light. The Light of Henry's Soul reminded him of the Light of the Last Archon... his dad? Confused at what he saw, he was upset. He didn't know why, but he felt frightened for Henry yet comforted at the same time.

Why are you scared for me, honey?

Drew showed him the image as Eleleth removed his helm, revealing Henry's face as he sent Drew back.

Just as confused as Drew, Henry was unsure how to respond at first.

How could he be you, dad?

That wasn't me, honey. Maybe he wanted to make you feel safe and made himself look like me. I've learned a lot studying with Dr. Aaron and Mister Albrecht; some beings don't have bodies and assume shapes and faces from the memories of whoever looks at them. There are some angels that do that. Maybe he's one of those.

Like a Boggart in Harry Potter?

Henry chuckled, replying: Well, sort of, except Boggarts are evil. This man, whoever or whatever he is, Protected you. That makes him pretty darn good in my book.

While they spoke, Henry soothingly stroked Drew's hair. Aside from merging with Drew years before, he knew his son well and knew how to comfort him and take his mind off things that troubled him. Much of that wisdom he learned from Tag and Olive.

Dad, can I sleep with you tonight?

Sure, Tiger.

Dad...

Yes, son?

Thanks.

Kissing the top of Drew's head and squeezing him tighter, Henry teared up slightly.

You're welcome, kiddo.

The next morning, the guys still weren't back, and at 0700 Henry stood at the kitchen counter pouring his first cup of coffee and trying to wake up for his PT run.

Adam came in, bleary-eyed and seemed tense.

"Morning, Adam. How'd you sleep?"

Sitting down at the table, Adam put his head in his hands, taking a deep breath while scrubbing his hands roughly over his face. Then, looking up at Henry, his eyes were red and glassy.

Moving to him immediately, Henry put a hand on his shoulder, asking him, "What's wrong?"

"I... I dreamed of AJ last night. My son. We played catch..."

Knowing immediately the Wolf-Spirit was involved, Henry quietly said, "I see."

After pausing briefly to collect his thoughts, Henry moved a chair beside Adam and sat down.

"Adam, you can't see her, but there's a Spirit here, a Wolf, bound to my son. Loy called her to Protect his Dreams from The Master. She's very wise, and in our Dreams extremely powerful. She's helped all of us in amazing ways."

Wide-eyed at what he heard, Adam replied, "I saw her, but she turned into a woman... she told me AJ Dreams of me. She took me into his Dream, and we played catch like a normal father and son. He knew me and called me dad."

Tears started flowing, and by the time Adam finished his sentence his voice caught.

"God, it seemed so real. I want it to be real so bad..."

"Adam, everything for you right now is fresh and painful. It was the same for me after Loy freed me from Angelo, my handler. There's a long road ahead of you and you need to be careful not to rush things. Believe me, I know how much you want it, but let's take some small steps first before plunging in. Take it from me; if you push too hard, it can all backfire.

"There's nothing I want more than for you to be with AJ. You said you have a daughter too?"

"Yes. Maddie was four when I was taken. The Spirit didn't say anything about her or my wife, Julie."

"Adam, the doctor and Albrecht are looking into the situation with your wife and kids. Let's wait and see where things stand after they have time to find out what's going on, alright? Don't tailspin over what-ifs."

Henry knew the look on Adam's face, full of hope and despair at the same time. He remembered the thoughts that tore through his mind shortly after the guys rescued him, Liz, Drew, Sally, and the Keenan's from the basement when The Master had them kidnapped.

<>

They deserve so much better than me. I'll just end up hurting them. If they knew anything about what I did, they'd know I'm a monster and hate me.

<>

Getting up, Henry poured a second cup of coffee and set it down in front of Adam.

"Thanks."

"I hope you like it black."

The corner of Adam's mouth rose as he said, "Black or strong and black, but not WAP, even though I'm not sure what that means. Cream and sugar maybe?"

Laughing, Henry almost spit his coffee out.

"Did Drew tell you that?"

"Yeah. So, what does WAP mean? I feel completely disconnected on the jokes and references. I have a lot of catching up to do."

"I get it, but if we helped Giovanni through it, we can help you."

"Who's Giovanni?"

"He's an eight-hundred-year-old monk Loy and Rick rescued from a bubble outside reality. He's a hoot. If you're here long enough you'll meet him. He's on a retreat right now, but he usually lives with us here in the Lab."

Adam's eyes bugged, and he mumbled, "Eight hundred years old?"

"If you really want to know the kicker, Giovanni is the Catholic Saint, St. Francis of Assisi."

Gauging Adam's reaction, Henry smirked, adding, "I'm not kidding, and if you think eight hundred years is a long time, don't ask the doc and Albrecht how old they are."

Running a hand through his hair, Adam stared at his coffee, unsure even how to respond.

Wanting to snap Adam out of his headspace, looking over the rim of his cup, Henry said, "Wet Ass Pussy."

Adam's head snapped back and his eyebrows raised as he said, "What!?"

"WAP. It stands for Wet Ass Pussy. It's from a popular song right now. Lane got the guys using it, and Drew overheard them. He really doesn't know what it means, or at least I don't think he does. Lord, I hope he doesn't. He knows he shouldn't repeat it whatever it is."

Chuckling, Adam shook his head.

"I hope the swearing doesn't bother you, Adam. All the guys except you, me, the doc, and Albrecht are former Navy SEALs. They have hearts of gold, but they swear like sailors. Literally."

"Well, you and I both know we've heard it all..."

Changing the subject, Henry said, "If you're finished with your coffee and awake, let's do our PT on the treadmills and start our workouts. Ken left notes on everything he wants us to work on."

<>

A Trigger went off in the back of his Mind, reminding Henry to Link with Sally at her house. It was protocol since she lived on her own, and even though Darren and the other Mentalists weren't around to translocate her if something happened, Henry would still be aware and possibly get to her if she needed help.

Good morning, Sal. I'll be with you this morning until you get here. The guys still aren't back.

Henry's presence inadvertently caused Sally to become aroused, which had the same effect on Henry.

Laughing, Sally thought: I'm sorry, Henry! This just reminded me of the other morning. I miss our morning time as much as you do.

It's no problem, but to quote Ken, "Do you know how hard it's gonna be `ta train Adam with a ragin' hardon?"

Sally couldn't help but laugh as she bit at her bottom lip and again thought: Sorry!

<>

After PT and still sweaty from their run, Henry went to wake Tommy, Brett, and Drew and then to the kitchen to make breakfast for himself, Adam, and the boys.

Adam was sweaty too, but Henry suggested not showering since they would start working out right after breakfast.

"You know where the shower is if you want to, so it's up to you."

While Henry cooked, Sally came in, giving everyone hugs. Much to his surprise, she included Adam, even as sweaty as he was.

Blushing, he said, "Sorry. I'm a bit of a mess."

"Don't think anything of it, Adam. Working here is like living in a giant fish tank of masculinity and testosterone. I'm used to it, and it doesn't bother me in the least."

Road construction near Sally's house delayed her arrival, and after grabbing a quick cup of WAP coffee, she started the boy's lessons.

The doctor and Albrecht still hadn't emerged from their room before Henry and Adam went into the gym.

<>

Adam looked on in awe at the weight setup the doctor invented for the guys. The weights were magnetic, programmed and customized at a console for each person according to their profile. DNA-based biometrics identified the user, so as each person lifted a bar his profile activated and set the appropriate weight.

Tiny buttons on the end of each bar allowed increasing or decreasing the weight on the fly, much like changing the volume on a smartphone. There was also an emergency `off' switch if necessary.

Following Ken's notes, Adam seemed content at the moment, pushing himself without any encouragement from Henry. After working with Ken for years, Henry had become an excellent coach himself and pointed out numerous form modifications to Adam for better results.

After two hours, the men were sweating bullets. Taking off their shirts and standing in front of the full-length mirrors, Adam critiqued his physique. Striking a few poses and pinching and pulling the skin around his abs, his eyebrows raised.

"When they Healed me, they did a fantastic job. Every bit of lean muscle I lost from the drugs is back... maybe even more."

Putting a hand on Adam's shoulder, Henry said, "You're looking awesome, Adam. Great job this morning."

Adam tensed at his touch, and Henry immediately removed his hand.

"Hey Adam, let's take five, towel off, rehydrate, and then do some cardio before lunch. We'll start with light sparring after we eat if the guys still aren't back."

Adam didn't respond, and Henry grabbed a few mats, dragging them next to the ring.

Plopping down on one, he slapped his hand beside him and said, "Come over here a sec, Adam."

Quickly mulling over his decision, Adam's reaction to being touched reinforced Henry's thought process. His plan might seem hypocritical after telling Adam he needed to take things slow, but he thought it the best course based on his own experience and wisdom.

Sitting down, Adam seemed reserved and left a good bit of room between them.

"I'd like to talk to you about something."

In an even voice, Adam asked, "What's on your mind?"

"You remember a few nights ago when Albrecht and I found you? Do you remember the place we were in when I woke you up?"

Remembering resting in their Hearts, Adam's eyes turned glassy, and his expression went slack, losing some of the tension he didn't realize had built up.

The place Henry spoke of was beautiful; his pain didn't seem to exist there or was pushed back so far it didn't matter, and he had felt free for the first time in nearly a decade. Not only free of emotional pain but free... from The Enemy, his own Mind, his own Heart, the shackles on his Soul... everything.

Not trusting himself to talk, Adam averted his eyes but nodded his head. He realized his reaction to Henry's touch sparked the coming conversation, and he blushed in shame. After being raped repeatedly and forced to perform oral favors, essentially being a fuck toy for any `suits' and willing Protectors, his reaction was instinctual and ingrained after years of trauma.

As a young man he was already homophobic, raised in the church and by a strict father. Even though he outgrew most of his bigotry before being abducted, his sexual abuse by The Enemy on top of everything he was forced to do left nothing but devastation in his psyche.

The scars in Adam, on his Soul and in his Mind and Heart were difficult for Henry to look at. However, the walls Adam built around himself were already crumbling, giving Henry hope and showing him the healing process had already begun. The same as with Henry, Drew's arms around Adam and seeing inside him helped start the process. [WU1]

He wished the guys were around to help dismantle Adam's barriers, Ricky in particular, but they weren't, so Henry had to rely on his own wisdom and judgment while holding Adam's best interest at Heart.

Suddenly, they were in that place, naked once again. It was dark all around, but Adam could see both of them. Just like before, Henry's Soul shone on him, and his pain withdrew. He realized it was still there, but Henry pushed it back.

Smiling, Henry thought: I want to have a literal Heart to Heart with you, Adam, and if you agree after that, I want us to merge.

Merge?

Yes... we essentially become one Mind and Soul, seeing everything about each other down to the most minute, intimate detail. There are no secrets, and we would be naked to each other in every aspect.

Adam's heart rate increased, terrified of anyone seeing his life as a Protector... of seeing him. To him, no one could ever understand and accept who and what he was now. He wasn't worthy of love and in his Mind his Brokenness so complete he felt he could never be forgiven or accepted. How could AJ ever love him...

Linked so deeply and in Adam's Heart, Henry saw and heard his thoughts clearly, and knew he had to cut off that line of thinking.

That's why I want it to be me, Adam. I lived through everything you did. You'll see a lot about Drew and the guys that will blow your Mind. One thing I want to get out of the way upfront, in case you haven't already figured it out, everyone in the Lab except Sally and me is gay.

What?! I was pretty sure a few of them were, but all of them?

Yeah, you'd never know it until you hang around them and the dick and ass jokes start flying. They learned to cover during their time in the Navy, back when it wasn't allowed. They're all out now, but they don't wear it on their shoulders. They're just guys who are into men; it's pretty simple.

It was Henry's turn to tear up as he continued.

They've shown me so much, Adam, and helped me grow beyond anything I ever imagined. You see, Adam, the heart of everything boils down to unconditional love. I love all the guys and they love me, for who I am, not what I can do for them or any other reason. The freedom to be me with no fear of judgment or ramifications to differences of opinion is exhilarating. It's so freeing... well, there really aren't words; you just have to experience it.

I sleep with them often. Not sex, but without Liz... every now and then I need to be close. With my Mind Open, sometimes I crave emotional intimacy as much as physical. Luckily, Sally and I help each other out sexually, but we're just good friends. The guys fulfill my emotional needs, and I'm not ashamed to need or receive their love.

I want that for you, Adam. I want you to reach the point where you see beyond your body or anyone else's and love and be loved as the humans we're created to be. I hug the guys all the time, and they hug me. We touch each other... Ken touches all of us to correct our form when lifting weights or fighting and it's never sexual. I mean, occasionally, he'll tweak a nipple or do some silly ass high school prank to get a laugh, but it's never more than that and never intended to embarrass or hurt anyone.

I want all of this for you, Adam. I want it so badly for you it hurts because I know how much you're hurting right now.

Adam listened, knowing the truth of Henry's dialogue because it was Mind to Mind. It sounded unbelievable... but he had already felt the fringes of it.

I think getting to that point is the only thing that will save you and allow you to move on with your life. It changes your perspective on everything. It takes you out of yourself but at the same time deeper within yourself.

If you can't or don't want to, I understand. We can wait if you aren't ready...

Adam blurted out: I... I want to try.

If this doesn't work, Adam, you have another option. I want to say this before we proceed. All cards on the table. The guys have the ability to reset people and things... make them new again, and pure. If they do that to you, you'll forget who you are, and it will be as if none of those things ever happened to you. The downside would be you won't know about AJ or your wife or daughter, but we need to wait and find out what the doctor discovers before we go that route.

Leaning forward, Henry put a hand on Adam's shoulder, giving him a squeeze of comfort, and this time Adam didn't flinch.

Are you ready now, or do you want to wait?

Clearing his throat to try and cover his nervousness, Adam thought: No time like the present.

Speaking of the present... the amount of time it takes is immeasurably small. When we go deep inside each other like we are now, time slows down. Sometimes we go so deep in each other as a group we stay for what seems like weeks while only a few seconds pass in our bodies.

One last thing, Adam. I want you to merge with me first because I'm straight. I think it will be easier on you, with your background. I'm not saying that as a criticism... it's just our perspectives are closer, and if you can merge with me, you can merge with anyone else. You'll want to merge with the guys for sure. As half angels, with them it's even better.

Adam: What do I need to do?

Scoot over here between my legs.

Adam had never been so close to another man in a consensual non-sexual situation, but he wanted what Henry talked about. So, pushing his prejudices and bigotry aside, he moved into position.

Henry's arms went around him, holding their bodies tightly together, and he admitted to himself the warmth of Henry's skin felt good. He hadn't been touched by anyone who cared about him since his abduction, and he missed it.

Lean your head back on my shoulder and close your eyes.

Sending a gentle compulsion into Adam's Mind, Henry thought: Breathe deep and relax. I want us to stay here for a bit and get you used to being touched. When I merge with the guys and we're in this place, we sit around in a big circle with our arms around each other and our legs intertwined. Lane says we're a bunch of touch-starved cats who have to pile on each other every so often. As much as we laugh about it, it's true.

Adam asked: How can you do all this, Henry?

You'll find out when we merge, but the short answer is the guys had to Open my Mind so I could raise Drew and Protect him against The Master.

Their conversation lapsed, and Adam sank into the feeling of being against another human. Henry's skin and the warmth of his body felt good, even soothing. Every once in a while, Henry tightened his arms, hugging him or even nuzzling his cheek against Adam's hair.

If Adam slipped and tensed up, Henry whispered in his ear, encouraging him to relax. Nothing was going to happen to him he didn't want. Henry had no ulterior motives, and Adam knew that. He felt it.

Adam had never been held in such a manner or felt so loved or cared for. Even with Julie, as much as he loved her, he never felt what was currently happening. Relaxing into Henry's embrace, not only his arms but his Mind and Heart, Adam started crying again. More barriers were breaking, and his psyche pushed back, invoking his self-protection mechanisms, but Henry was there, a Wall inside him, Protecting him from himself.

Crying nonstop, his tears vacillated between gentle and intense sobbing, but each wave became less intense as he learned to accept what Henry offered.

Eventually, he settled, and with his eyes still full of tears, he wistfully thought: Can I stay here forever?

Smiling, Henry gently thought: Well, technically we could, but then you'd never get to see your son, and I'd never get to see Drew, so that's gonna be a no from me.

Adam was able to smile at Henry's response, and he thought: I'm ready.

Then here we go.

Guiding their Minds and Souls together, Henry became One with Adam. At first, the Light of Henry's Soul almost burned, not because of any evil in Adam, but the darkness had been in him so long his Soul had hardened into a cold stone out of self-preservation.

Taking things slowly and loving Adam unconditionally like he promised, Henry revealed everything about himself to Adam and embraced everything about Adam unflinchingly.

Once again, Adam cried uncontrollably, and this time Henry cried with him. Not knowing each other, they didn't have to forgive one another for any transgressions or emotional hurt they caused to each other. In a way it made their merging easier, and Henry was right; as a Protector and having been subjected to everything Adam had, seeing how Henry dealt with it made a huge difference.

Adam experienced Henry's recovery, the love of his Brother's and their arms around him, Ken kissing the back of his head while holding him, Darren or Loy's hands rubbing his back to help him fall asleep, Drew's arms around him, the incredibly long hours of counseling with the doctor and Albrecht... it was all there, and it was as though it happened to him.

Because Henry had merged with everyone else, everything about his Brothers was there too. The only thing Henry held back was Aaron and Albrecht, out of respect for their privacy and Adam's Protection from the knowledge they held.

Wrapping Adam in his unconditional love, Henry and Adam worked through everything together as men and Brothers, and even with Time not moving it took far longer than Henry expected.

Shocked at what the Wolf-Spirit had already done for Adam, Henry wasn't sure merging would have worked without her laying at least some initial groundwork in Adam's Mind and he was grateful.

Adam was overwhelmed at who and what the guys were and the doctor, Albrecht, and Drew. Living through Henry's loss of Liz, Adam felt her sacrifice for Drew and cried with him over her death and absence. The hole in Henry's heart was still there and might never be filled, but Adam filled another tiny piece of that space.

In their bodies, a few seconds later, Adam's eyes flew open, and he sucked in breath. Henry's arms tightened, holding him, and he patted Adam's chest.

Smiling, with tears in his eyes, Henry thought: It's nice to know you, Adam.

Adam smiled, even chuckled.

You too, Henry. My God... that was...

Yeah, it was pretty awesome. You're a good person, Adam. We both have scars, far more than any normal human can comprehend, but you and me and other Protectors like us... the guys... we're here for one another. It's up to us to rebuild our lives and the lives of as many of us as we can find. The world, too, as much as we can.

Adam's expression turned serious, and he thought: We have to find more of us. I know there are others out there. We have to help them.

We will, Adam, but first we have to take care of you. You need to take care of you. You need to be whole and healthy before you take on someone else's problems. Patience, buddy.

Adam laughed: I'll work on that. Patience has never been a strong point with me. I'm more of a bull in a China shop.

Taking them back to their bodies Henry stood up, pulling Adam with him.

Winking, Henry said, "Time for some cardio, and then food."

Seeing the expression on Adam's face, he patted his shoulder again and said, "You'll get used to the transitions, Adam. It takes a while, but you did great."

Getting on the treadmills, the two men started at a fast pace. Henry kept increasing his speed, knowing Adam would match him out of pure competitiveness now that he knew him so well.

Staying deeply Linked, Henry felt Adam's emotional unrest, finding difficulty adjusting from such extreme emotional intimacy and honesty back to his own thoughts, which still fluctuated with memories of his past.

Even though he knew he was loved and accepted, it didn't change what happened to him, but he had an entirely new perspective to work with and was optimistic he had a future.

Henry hoped to push Adam enough for his Mind to disengage from his emotions, but there wasn't enough time to reach that state in the short time he allotted for cardio.

Adam, there's an advanced technique we use called our Centering Flame. You'll eventually get there, but for today I want to help you reach it. It will still your Mind and let your body take over. It's kind of like meditation but far more profound.

I'd like that, Henry. Honestly, I wish we could stay in our Hearts. It's so peaceful there; being back in my body seems harder.

I know, and that's a danger in its own way, like a drug. Merging is worse, and you have to learn extreme discipline at first. Later, when you're more familiar with it, it won't seem as bad. The transition is always tough but it eventually becomes more bearable.

Deepening their Link further, Henry took Adam's Mind with him, focusing on his Centering Flame. Adam did an excellent job of not resisting, embracing everything Henry taught him. However, his hunger to recover was apparent, and Henry knew he would have to fight Adam to slow him down.

Adam's body was a machine, and once he released his Mind and let his body take over with no thoughts encroaching, the time seemed to pass almost instantly. Blinking, he realized they had already run ten miles.

Smiling, Henry thought: Good job. Now let's eat. I'm starving.

As they shut down the equipment and toweled off, sudden and unexpected searing pain hit their Minds, knocking Adam unconscious.

His Shields flaring brightly, Henry covered them both, yelling in his Mind: Doc?! Albrecht?! What's happening?!

Rushing out of the gym, he found Sally, Tommy, and Brett unconscious and fear struck him, but he also saw the Shield over them from Drew and his mentors. Cavall's howl pierced both the Physical and Spiritual Realm, and his Power added to theirs, helping to keep them safe.

As soon as Drew saw Henry he ran to his dad, throwing his arms around Henry's waist even as he threw all his Power into the combined Shields. They had practiced doing so repeatedly until it became second nature, and Henry was proud of his response.

While Aaron physically checked on Sally and the boys, Albrecht, at the security monitors, thought: There's a `suit' in the parking lot, but he looks different.

Henry: Just one?

Albrecht: That I can see.

Henry: How can he do this through the Runes?

Making his way to the security monitor, Henry's eyes widened: Oh, shit. That's Adam's handler! Adam said his handler and some of the others disappeared!

Zooming in on the image, the `suit's' eyes glowed with the same neon green energy as the Demon that attacked Drew in the park.

Shifting his Sight to only the Spiritual Realm, Henry saw the man clear as day, which shouldn't happen. Sending a spear of Mental Energy at the man, it hit but he seemed completely unaffected. It wasn't a powerful attack, but he wanted to gauge the response.

"This is bad!"

Aaron said, "Kenneth and the Bodies physically interacted with the Demon in the park. Get one of the rifles with the new ammunition."

Their combined Shields kept the pain of the attack at bay, but the pressure was constant and not insignificant, and they would eventually exhaust themselves if they did nothing.

Drew seemed alright, but Henry could tell how upset he was over his cousins and Sally being knocked unconscious.

Drew said, "Dad..."

Pulling Drew down into his Heart, father and son appeared naked to one another.

Immediately, Drew threw his arms around Henry's neck, and Henry felt him trembling. It was apparent Drew wasn't afraid for himself, but for Henry.

Holding him for a few seconds, Henry pulled back, cupping Drew's face in his warm hands.

"I have to go out there, Drew. I have to Protect you and the others."

Looking into Henry's eyes, Drew's expression shifted into one of his `adult' looks. Seeing Henry's bravery staring back calmed him, and he asked, "Can I help?"

"Not yet. We have no idea what this guy is capable of, and until I do, you need to stay put and help Aaron and Albrecht."

Pulling him forward, Henry kissed Drew's forehead.

"I'm proud of you, Tiger. You're already helping with the Shields. Keep it up and be available if Aaron or Albrecht need you to do something, okay?"

With a sigh of understanding, Drew said, "Okay, dad. I love you. Be careful."

Back in his body, Henry ran as fast as he could, opening the Armory and grabbing a Barret Model 82A1 with two clips of the doctor's new ammo.

Shirtless, sweaty, and in his workout shorts, he only had enough room for one extra clip in his pocket, aside from the one in the rifle.

Going to the door, Henry looked at Albrecht, asking, "Is he still where he was?"

"Yes. He's at the edge of the Rune's influence in the center of the parking lot. The door is clear."

"Okay, wish me luck. Here goes nothing."

Glancing back, Henry saw Aaron placing Orophir's Amulets on Sally, Tommy, and Brett. He held the only four they had and assumed the last one was for Adam.

Having no idea what to expect, Henry braced himself. Everything with Luke and Drew was escalating so suddenly, and there were so many knowns...

Making eye contact with Albrecht, Henry said, "If this goes bad, keep the door sealed. You'll have to try and hold out until the guys get back."

Albrecht nodded, understanding Henry's meaning and intent.

Slipping out the door, Henry heard the magnetic locks seal behind him.

The heat and humidity of the afternoon hit him after the airconditioned Lab. There was no breeze and the only sound was the distant noise of cars driving by the front of the building.

Looking at the `suit' in more detail, aside from the strange neon-green glow of his eyes, he looked disheveled. Usually, `suits' under The Master's dominance were immaculate. His clothes weren't dirty, but they were wrinkled as if he had worn them for some time.

The `suit's name was Caylin Finch, and his features were burned into Henry's Mind after merging with Adam. Henry had forgiven his own handler, Angelo Bertucci, but his anger at Caylin was fresh, running deep on Adam's behalf.

Keeping his Shields tight and Powerful, with the rifle raised at the ready, Henry approached Caylin, who seemed to ignore him. Caylin's eyes were wide open and glowing, his attention fixed on Drew inside the building, which should be impossible given the walls were Protected by Enochian Runes from the Book of Loagaeth.

Taking a deep breath Henry delved into his own Heart, immersing himself in the love of his son, his Brothers, and his extended family. His Light shining as brightly as ever, he attacked Caylin with everything in him.

Staggering and registering pain, Caylin took a step back but his attack never faltered. Any regular `suit' would have burned to ash from Henry's attack.

Henry snapped Caylin's neck with a roundhouse kick, and again he staggered, but his attack didn't waver. The image of Caylin's head brought forth a scene from Bryan and Lane's memory of their time trapped in Taliesin's Construct when Lane fought the employees of a recreational store, breaking their necks and then a few seconds later, them getting back up again.

Grunting just like Bryan, Henry mumbled, "Well, that sucks."

Nearly falling over, Henry clutched his head as the attack on his Mind suddenly increased as two additional `suits' emerged from the tree line at the back edge of the parking lot, adding their attack to Caylin's.

Together, the collective Shield of Henry, Drew, Aaron, Albrecht, and Cavall held off Caylin, but the combined strength of the three `suits' nearly broke through their defenses, and the five of them pushed as hard as they could to hold on.

Quickly, Henry raised the rifle, blowing Caylin's head off. A .50 Caliber rifle from only a few feet away with magically augmented ammunition physically vaporized his head and part of his torso.

With Caylin's death the attack lessened, and as he raised the rifle to shoot another one, Luke's voice came out of both the remaining `suits.'

"Die, Betrayer! You cannot Protect your son from me! I will have the Second Born, and you cannot stop me!"

Luke's voice echoed not only around the parking lot but in their Minds, and as his voice faded, in the air at the edge of the Runes, tears in the fabric of Reality appeared as another Demon clawed its way through. Two more followed, and Henry heard Drew's scream in his Mind and Heart as they rent their way through from The Void.

Desperation hit hard and fast, and Henry didn't know what to do. Without the guys, there was no way he could face Luke's new underlings by himself. Luckily, at least so far, Luke's goal was Drew and his underlings largely ignored Henry, which was at least some advantage.

He literally blew apart the two `suits' with two more shots, and immediate relief followed as their attack stopped, giving him a slight reprieve.

Leaping back against the building so he was fully enveloped by the Runes, he changed clips and opened fire on the first Demon.

The creature obviously felt the new ammunition. The bullets were potent enough between their explosive potential and the magical effect of the new ammo that chunks of flesh blew off, splattering glowing blood across the pavement. Still, even bleeding heavily, it seemed largely unaffected.

Neon-green Energy came out of their clawed hands forming swords as the Demons rushed the building, and the entire structure shook from the impact as their Power clashed with the barrier of the Rune's Protection.

Changing their focus to Henry and screaming their rage, the Demons placed their blades against the Protection and with great effort started pushing through. Massive energy crackled around the blades as they slowly inched forward, now with Henry as their target.

Out of ammo, Henry dropped the rifle and attacked them with all the Power in him. Screaming, he pushed himself, throwing attack after attack, but the blades kept moving forward.

Pinned against the building, when the first blade came within a foot of his chest Henry placed his hands against the flat of the blade. His hands smoking, he screamed as the Energy of the Void burned his skin through his Shield, rending his body and Soul.

His entire upper body swelled, shaking with the effort of fighting the pain and trying to slow the blade's advancement. Between his efforts and the pain, fresh sweat covered his body, and his wet skin reflected the green energy and his own Light.

Instead of fear, anger filled Henry. Anger at Luke and even at himself for not being enough to Protect his son. Refusing to believe everything was about to end, after the entire ordeal with The Master, Henry screamed through his pain and pushed harder.

His arms flexed as red fire erupted from his Core Energy center, fueling his muscles while Drew, Aaron, Albrecht, and Cavall fought desperately to help him, pushing their Power into him and augmenting his Shields.

Finally, the tip of the first blade touched his chest, sinking a few inches in, and pain unlike anything he ever felt assaulted his Mind, Heart, and Soul. Humans of the Second Creation were not supposed to have any contact with the Void between Creations, and Henry felt like he was being torn apart, atom by atom.

Thoughts of Protecting Drew kept him fighting, just as when he fought the Eschphene Leader in The Pale.

I...

Am...

a...

Wall!

Thankfully the blade halted, at the limit of its length from the line of the Rune's protections. The tips of the other two swords entered his chest, increasing his torture, but unable to go deeper they physically stopped.

Releasing the blade, his arms went to his sides, thrust out against the wall of the building. Helpless, the blades pinned him and looking down, blood poured from his torso as he screamed, not from the physical pain but from their Power tearing at this Soul and devouring him from within.

Trapped against the building, Luke's laughter echoed in the air around Henry as his life slowly faded.

Aaron and Albrecht watched everything on the monitors. They had hopes of Henry being victorious when he blew away the `suits,' but those hopes vanished when the Demons appeared.

Through his own pain, Drew watched with tears streaming down his face, unable to breathe as he watched his father pinned against the wall by the great swords. Henry's screams tore at Drew, bringing back memories of when his father died in combat with the insane Eschphene Leader, and like then pushing as hard as he could didn't seem to make any difference.

After Luke killed his brother, Drew thought his life would be normal. He had enjoyed being a boy the last three years, and Henry did everything he could to make up for the lack in his early years.

Drew's love for Henry was so deep it shook the foundations of Creation. It was his love for Henry and his Uncles that allowed him to sacrifice himself and push The Master to ask his forgiveness.

His mother was gone, and he had seen Henry die once, even if only for a few seconds, and with those memories fresh in his young Mind, fear of losing his father again pushed him into action. Before Aaron or Albrecht could stop him, Drew ran to the door, entered the code, and slipped through.

Cavall darted out with him, growling loudly with his hackles high.

Seeing Henry pinned and all the blood brought more tears, but Drew had matured through his experiences and he was much more than a ten-year-old boy. Since The Master's death, Drew was the oldest living Soul in existence, the second Soul born into the Second creation, with wisdom and compassion beyond his ten years.

Ducking through the railing and moving to Henry, Drew desperately screamed, "Stop it! Get away! You're killing him!"

Cavall moved with him to Protect Drew and Henry as best he could. His silver eyes saw the Power within the Demons, and he planted himself in front of Henry, making himself a barrier between the Demons and Henry and Drew.

Drew hadn't called The Stone in three years, but it appeared in his hand, Summoned from Thomin's Vault. His fist closed around it, and his arm shook with the strength of his grip as he let loose a torrent of Power at the Demons.

The Stone, the instrument responsible for bringing The Curse into being, hit the Demons, pushing them back enough that their swords withdrew from Henry's torso. Also, to his surprise, the pain in his back ceased once The Stone was in his hand.

Falling to the ground and crying out in relief, Henry fought to clear his vision.

"Drew!? Get out of here! What are you doing?"

Henry felt Drew's hands on him, trying to help lift him up, but he was heavy, sweaty, and covered in blood and Drew had a hard time gripping him.

Keeping his wits about him, Drew knew if they moved towards the door they would be within range of the swords, so he cried out, "This way, dad!"

His Mind and Soul still recovering from the onslaught of the Demon's attack, Henry stumbled, trusting his son and allowing Drew to lead him. He collapsed after a short way, but they were now out of range of the swords at the corner of the building.

Throwing himself against Henry, Drew's arms wrapped tightly around Henry's neck, squeezing hard.

Sobbing so hard Henry could barely understand him, Drew kept muttering, "I'm sorry, dad, I couldn't let you die. I had to do something."

The wounds in Henry's chest were superficial. They hurt, but he didn't feel pain like a normal human, and without the green Power of the Demons tearing at his existence he ignored the pain.

Wrapping his big arms around his son, he squeezed back, whispering in Drew's ear, "You saved me, Tiger. I'm alright."

Seeing Drew with Henry, the Demons savagely threw themselves against the Rune's Protection, screaming their rage. Pushing their swords through again, Henry and Drew were now far enough away that the tips of the swords couldn't reach them. They were close, though, keeping Henry and Drew pinned in the corner, and Henry knew they would break through soon if they weren't stopped.

Aaron: Henry!? Are you and Drew alright?

I've been better, doc. Drew saved me. Apparently, The Stone can at least partially affect those things.

Albrecht: Yes, we saw him push the creatures away.

Yeah, but we're pinned down at the corner and those things will break through if we don't figure out a way to stop them. Drew can slow them down, but we need a different plan.

Taking off his shirt, Drew wadded it up, applying pressure to the wounds in Henry's chest to stop the bleeding. With his physical enhancements Henry's blood clotted quickly, and Drew sat beside his dad, leaning into him. Cavall stood beside them, his hackles high and emitting a constant low growl at the Demons.

Sitting on the ground with his back against the wall, Henry put his arm around Drew, holding him and hoping the guys would show up to save all of them. He wouldn't go down without a fight, but realistically he knew he didn't have a chance.

Time seemed to slow, and the sounds of the Demon's screams faded. In the silence, Drew heard a new sound... a pulse. Steady and strong, he knew it was Henry's heartbeat.

His hands, still covered in Henry's blood, held The Stone, and his father's blood mixed with his own from eighty-thousand years ago. Glancing down, The Stone pulsed with a red light, the color of their combined blood matching the beat of Henry's heart.

Staring at it intently, an extreme moment of lucidity came over Drew. Moving through The Stone, he saw the pores on its surface as though under a microscope, even smelling his own blood and Henry's in the stains as his vision and awareness moved through it and out of the Physical Realm.

The previous times he appeared at The Doors he witnessed the armored warrior fighting Allenor, but this time he was met with absolute silence. The sanctity of the Temple surrounded him, and even the sound of his existence disturbed the peace of the place.

Eleleth, immediately aware of Drew's presence, manifested himself.

Seeing the man appear, Drew ran to him with tears in his eyes, stopping a few feet away. In his armor Eleleth seemed huge, and he shone with the same Light as before, bathing Drew in his Luminescence.

Sniffing, Drew wiped his eyes and said, "You have to help my dad! He's going to die if you don't!"

Like Allenor, Eleleth was not a part of the Second Creation and did not belong there. He could manifest in the Physical Realm but it would be uncomfortable to him and dangerous to anyone or anything close to him, and his presence could wreak far more havoc than his assistance might bring.

Delving his Awareness into Drew, Eleleth saw not only his life, but the thousands of times Drew lived and died. The incarnations were no longer in him, resting in Heaven where they belonged, but the scars of their lives were still etched in his Soul and clear to The Archon.

He witnessed the strength of Drew's love for Henry and his Uncles and extended family and his sacrifice to save all of them from his brother, The Master. The Power in Drew, what he held in his Heart, was almost immeasurable, even to a being such as Eleleth and he wondered at it. It was still untapped, but Eleleth now understood how Drew could be The Crux of The Curse and hold The Doors shut.

Through Drew's Heart Eleleth was aware of the plight of Aaron, Albrecht, and the others at the Lab, and Henry and Drew outside. Watching the Demons besiege the building, he knew the defenses would not hold.

Kneeling to be at eye level with Drew, Eleleth asked, "Where are the Nephilim who guard your Realm?"

"They had to go help Mister Németh."

Casting his Vision to The Pale, Eleleth viewed the destruction The Fallen One's underlings caused. Seeing the Ripples and Chaos The Fallen one stirred, he wondered at it.

Watching, he saw Pat become part of the Second Creation through his Gift. However, because of the Time differential, he realized the Nephilim would not return in time to save the Child. The Enochian Runes Protecting their primary domicile in the Physical Realm would not last long enough.

His expression stern, Eleleth was unsure what to do; if the Demons killed the Child, all was lost and his own Purpose and the loss of his Brothers would be meaningless.

If Drew died, The Fallen One could open The Doors and bring about the end of all things. To what purpose he did not yet comprehend, but it mattered little if all was lost.

The Fallen One planned his attack well, timing it perfectly when the Nephilim were absent, and none of the Awakened humans on earth could reach The Pale to warn them of the attack to return and help.

Overwhelming sadness overtook Eleleth, afraid he was about to witness the end of everything.

His voice pleading, Drew begged, "Please, you have to help my dad!"

Focusing on the Child and his father on earth, Eleleth looked through Drew's eyes, and as soon as he saw Henry's face, everything changed.

Suddenly, everything went still, and Henry was no longer outside the Lab. Taken out of Time before by Raphael, Henry quickly realized it happened again.

Glancing around quickly, a chill ran down his spine at the sight of the massive Doors, so tall he couldn't see the top of them. He had seen them in Drew's shared memory of the place.

Like Drew, the Sanctity of the place wrapped around Henry, and he felt like he shouldn't be there. In fact, his awe bordered on fear, unnerving him.

"Greetings, Henry Ross. Have no fear."

Spinning, he saw a man, tall and powerful, wearing armor and holding his helm under his arm. His perfection was difficult, almost painful to look at, and his visage strangely affected Henry. The man was so beautiful, so perfect, Henry felt unworthy to look upon him, and he lowered his gaze. Oddly, he became aroused.

His voice sounded raspy and harsh compared to the man he addressed.

"Who... Who are you? What is this place?"

"There is little time, Henry."

Eleleth knelt, cupping Henry's chin and lifting his face so they could see eye to eye. Eleleth's eyes sparkled, like the archangels and the birdman's.

Forced to look at Eleleth, his expression calmed Henry, and similar to Drew, Eleleth's Light washed over Henry, giving him an indescribable feeling of contentment and joy.

"Are you an angel?"

"Of sorts. I am an Archon, a Luminary, and the last of my kind. Your son's importance is beyond measure, Henry Ross, and he must be saved."

Eleleth's words brought the situation at the Lab back to Henry. Sweaty and covered in blood, wearing only his workout shorts and shoes, he put his head in his hands, sounding distraught.

"The guys are gone. We can't reach them, and none of us can affect the Demons. I... I don't know what to do!"

Henry's desperation was evident and painful to hear.

Taking off his gauntlet, Eleleth placed his hand atop Henry's head, looking at the white lock in his hair.

"Father never does anything without reason. The mark you bear will allow us to save your son."

Henry remembered Istariel making the same comment about the lock in his hair the morning he noticed it for the first time.

"What do you mean?"

"I can save Drew through you. No Second Child of your Creation, even free of The Curse, could contain me. You, however, have been touched by Father, and that changes everything."

"I don't understand."

"If you allow me, I can join with you and save your son and your friends. I must warn you, though, doing so will have consequences for both of us."

"Will I die?"

"No, but such a joining has never happened, and even I am unsure of the cost. We are not of the same Creations, and it will change both of us."

Upon hearing Eleleth's words hope rekindled in Henry, and there was no conflict or question in his Mind and Heart. His love for Drew beyond human; he would do anything to save his son and face any consequence.

Not knowing what else to say, Henry said, "Well, whatever the cost, it sure beats the hell out of ceasing to exist."

Looking directly into Eleleth's sparkling eyes, Henry clearly said, "Let's do this."

<>

Drew started. Back from The Doors, Henry's arm still held him, holding him tightly and Protecting him. Something changed, and feeling Henry's body heat against him, he was no longer afraid.

Looking up at his dad's face, Henry's eyes sparkled, holding all of the First Creation in them.

"Dad?"

"It's me, Drew, but Eleleth is with me, too."

Smiling at his son, Eleleth's Light shone forth, bathing Drew in the same feeling as before, but this time the love surrounding him was a combination of Henry's and The Last Archon.

Removing his arm from around Drew, Henry stood. His sweaty skin reflected Eleleth's Light shining around him and the white lock of hair on his head was blinding to look at. Standing tall, to Drew, Henry looked like Michael, his Uncle Ken's archangel grandfather, but even more glorious.

Seeing with his Mind's Eye, Drew perceived Henry and Eleleth together as One being and it frightened him, reminding him of his Dream.

"Stay here, honey. I don't want you too close. I'm not sure how dangerous this is going to be."

Putting his hand on Cavall's head, he said, "Stay with Drew, Cav."

Clad only in his workout shorts and shoes, his powerful legs bunched and flexed as Henry launched himself, leaping beyond the Protection of the Runes. Landing nimbly, the Demons turned to face him, and exposed, he seemed defenseless.

Their three swords rising as one, the massive Demons brought them down, intending to smite Henry out of existence, but a loud clang echoed through the area as Eleleth's sword appeared in his hand, blocking their blades. The wave of Power from the impact pushed the trees at the edge of the parking lot back as though a strong wind blew against them.

The shockwave cracked the pavement under Henry's feet, leaving a small indention where he stood.

With a grim smile, almost casually, Henry pushed the Demon's back using the sword and the strength of his arm.

In the Lab, Aaron and Albrecht looked on in wonder, not knowing or understanding where Henry could have gotten the sword or how he could possibly be strong enough to perform the act they witnessed.

Aaron's eyes watered in fear for Henry, and he muttered, "Oh my boy, what have you done?"

Albrecht gripped Aaron's arm, squeezing it in comfort, saying, "As always, whatever he must to Protect Drew."

Drew watched as Henry held the sword before him, just as Eleleth did when vanquishing the Demon in his Dream.

As a Luminary, Eleleth helped sing the First Creation into being from the nothing that was the Void, and his Power was fully effective against Luke's creatures.

Channeling his Light through the weapon, it arced out like chain lightning, caging and devouring the Demons of the Void. They were like ants to him, taking no more effort to destroy than taking a breath.

With the Demon's gone, Henry stood in the parking lot for a moment, looking around to make sure there was no further danger.

In his Heart, Henry spoke, saying: Thank you, Eleleth. I owe you my sons' life and my own and my friends.

Letting the sword go, it vanished along with Eleleth's presence.

Running to him, Drew threw his arms around Henry's waist. Cavall followed, sniffing at him intensely and wondering where the other being went.

"Dad! Are you alright?!"

Smiling down at his son, Henry put his hand on Drew's head and ruffled his hair.

"Come on, Tiger. Let's go make sure everyone else is alright."

Turning towards the Lab Henry stopped suddenly, his expression going blank as he slowly fell to his knees and passed out.

"Dad!"

A short silence followed Németh's disappearance.

Moving to his buddy, Ken put a hand on Pat's shoulder and asked, "Are you alright, Pat?"

Looking intently into Pat's eyes, Ken's held a hint of worry.

"I'm good, Ken. This is..."

Pat's voice faded as he seemed to stare at nothing.

One with his husband, Darren appeared with Pat in the place where their Souls resided.

Something was happening that had never occurred before. As One, Darren should experience everything Pat did as though he were Pat, but Darren wasn't a part of The Gift and couldn't perceive Pat's experience.

That fact scared him, and he hated not being that part of Pat along with everything else. Intellectually he understood it; he wasn't wired for it, and he assumed when he got his own Gift it would be the same, or perhaps once he got his own Gift they would be fully able to comprehend and be a part of each other again.

"Pat? What's wrong?"

Pat was slow to respond, which worried Darren even more.

"I'm sorry, Dar. Nothing's wrong."

Coming back to himself, he grinned, saying, "I promise!"

Darren's concern was obvious, and Pat hugged him, pulling their bodies together. The sensation of Darren against him, every minute detail from the electromagnetic field of his body, his skin cells, muscles, and scent... through his new and deeper Understanding, he brought the meaning of Darren's existence foremost to his Mind.

Seeing his husband through his full Avatar, now completed by his Gift, he realized exactly how perfect Darren was. Not only as his husband, although he saw that connection as well, but as an Original Unfallen Man and Nephilim. He saw the beauty and perfection of what God created in them. The only part missing was Darren's Gift to make him complete.

"I'm getting used to this... my God, I see everything so much more in-depth. It's not exactly overwhelming, but it's a rush. Fuck, you are more perfect to me than ever. All the guys are... I see you all now... I see everything..."

Brushing the hair off Pat's forehead, Darren said, "Pat, look at me."

Turning his sparkling eyes on his husband, Pat took in Darren's handsome features along with his Heart, Mind, and Soul.

Darren said, "I love you so much, and I'm excited for you and what this means, but I'm worried."

Pat Understood Darren's worry and Ken's. He was now a part of Creation, not in the sense that he existed within Creation, but an actual part of it, attached to it. However, his Understanding seemed to Darren like detachment, and tears filled his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Dar. I'll have to learn how to adjust to this. You're the center of my existence. The guys are too. Never, ever worry about that."

Kissing his husband, Pat concentrated, pulling his Understanding back within himself, quieting his Avatar so he perceived everything as he used to.

It was difficult, just as hard as learning how to separate themselves the first time their Souls became One. The desire to stay in one another forever was so powerful and compelling it was hard to overcome. His new Understanding was the same... he felt like he was meant to be a part of Creation, and pulling back left a temporary hole in him until he re-acclimated. It made him feel smaller, insignificant, and less connected.

Staring into Darren's eyes, Pat's eyes lost their sparkle, returning to their usual dark brown.

Seeing the relief on his husband's face, Pat hugged them more tightly together.

Darren asked, "So you see everything now?"

Pat laughed, knowing what was coming.

"Well, yes, sort of. It's hard to explain."

"Well, don't say, `My God, it's full of stars' in front of Lane, or we'll never hear the end of the references."

Laughing, Pat replied, "You got it."

Burrowing his face against Pat's hard chest, Darren felt Pat's chest hair against his cheek and breathing in Pat's smell and body heat, and his Soul smiled.

All was right in his world again.

<>

"... just new to me."

Watching Pat's eyes return to normal, Ken breathed easier.

Pat and Darren were already merged, and Darren pulled everyone else in with them, appearing naked together in the place where their Souls were One.

Resting in Darren and his Brothers filled the ache in Pat after quieting his Avatar. Like Darren, they couldn't comprehend the new part of him, and it bothered them. It hadn't happened with Loy and Lane, but their Gifts were more tainted through the human hosts that carried them.

After each of them held Pat in their arms and settled themselves, the shit-hanging started, lifting their spirits.

Seeing the tail end of Pat and Darren's merge a second ago, Lane said, "Hey! I'm not that bad, am I?"

Every one of his Brother's looked at him, including Bryan, and collectively said, "Yeah, you are."

Lane fist-pumped, owning his undisputed place among them, which caused even more laughter.

In the middle of laughing, Brad turned towards Pat and asked, "Pat... Németh said you were now a part of the Balance. What did he mean?"

All of them, including Ken, said, "Buzzkill!"

Lane interjected, "Own it, Brad, just like I do. You'll feel better about yourself."

Brad laughed along with all of them, but he was serious.

Pat's eyes sparkled again, and in the darkness around them he brought forth a visual Construct of Creation, just like Németh did in the Eschphene High Temple.

Pat said, "I see all of this, but I can't hold it at one time. God was with me, and for a brief moment I held it all, but my Mind is still finite. I see the Laws within Creation... they're intuitive now and a part of me, or maybe I'm a part of them, and I can manipulate them, but there's a cost. If I do too much, I'm not sure what will happen. Like Németh said, I'm part of the Balance and it must be maintained, or it could have catastrophic effects.

"The easy example is if I make something lighter by altering gravity, something has to get heavier to balance it out. Of course, that's vastly oversimplifying it, but it gets the point across."

His eyes lost their sparkle, and sadness welled up in him. As One his emotions were theirs, and tears filled his eyes.

"Guy's... seeing everything so much clearer, I see the Brokenness... The Curse... I feel it. Not just in people but in Creation. It's so painful to see... I can literally touch it now, and it hurts my Soul. I see the need to remove it more than ever but we can't... we have to figure out a way. We have to."

Darren's arm tightened around Pat, pulling him closer and kissing his cheek. Unashamedly Pat leaned in, letting himself be held and comforted by his husband. With the Paradox of that place, each of his Brothers held him in the same manner, consoling and comforting him.

Ken: We'll find a way, Pat. I promise you that.

Silence fell among them again as they rested in their Combined Soul, and when Pat felt better, Lane broke the silence by asking, "So if you made Bry's balls bigger, would mine have to get smaller?"

Another silence followed before they all broke out laughing, but Lane got Pat to laugh, which is what he wanted.

"If I could, Lane, I would, just to make you pay for saying that. Lord, even with everything I can Understand, I'll never get the way your goofy-ass brain works."

Turning the tables on his buddy, he said, "One thing I do Understand, though, is how much I love you. Don't ever change."

It was Lane's turn to cry, and he did, saying, "You bastard."

To bring them all back on track, Ken thought: It's time `ta head home, guys. I can't wait `ta hear the doc's reaction `ta Pat's Gift.

Smiles followed, and the betting pool started on how many times the doc would say, `oh my.'

<><>

Drew wasn't waiting for them in the gym when they appeared, but Ken assumed he was in lessons with Sally.

Assuming Henry, Albrecht, and the doctor would be Linked, Brad cast out his thoughts but only felt the doc, Albrecht, and Drew. He couldn't sense Henry, Sally, Tommy, or Brett. His gut twinged and he tried Adam and couldn't sense him either.

Brad: Guy's, something's wrong.

Pulling the doctor and Albrecht into a Link with all of them, he asked: Doc?

Thank heavens you are back! We were attacked...

Before the doctor got any further, except for Drew, Brad merged them all into One, and their encounter with the Eschphene and Németh and Pat acquiring his Gift became known to Aaron and Albrecht, and the Lab getting besieged by the new `suits' and the Demons became known to the guys.

Seeing Henry pinned by the Demons with blood covering his torso, screaming from the onslaught of the Demon's Power brought a severe emotional reaction in all of them. Even more surprising was him suddenly wielding a sword and singlehandedly annihilating the Demons before collapsing.

Equally, the sight of Tommy, Brett, Sally, and Adam unconscious and non-responsive tore at them.

Deepening the merge, Time nearly stood still, and Darren synchronized their Avatars. Bill and Kevin appeared at the bedsides of Tommy and Brett. Ken, Brad, Lane, and Bry appeared with Henry and Drew, and Loy, Rick, Darren, and Pat appeared with Sally and Adam.

Henry, the only one not wearing an Amulet, was in a room by himself, with Drew by his side.

As soon as they appeared, Drew launched himself into Ken's arms and started crying.

Drew: Uncle Ken!

Instinctively Ken's arms went around Drew, holding him tight.

Ken: I'm here, Tiger. We're here! It's gonna be okay.

Drew: But he won't wake up! We were at The Doors and I asked Mister Eleleth to help him. He was hurt, but then he got up and beat the Demons and fell over, and I can't wake him up!

Via the merge, Ken witnessed everything from the doctor and Albrecht's perspective from inside the Lab through the monitors, of Henry holding a sword and destroying the Demons.

Brad: Doc, do you know why they won't wake up?

Aaron: I do not know, Bradford. The initial attack caught us by surprise and all of them were Unshielded. The Runes were only partially effective against the new `suits,' and the boys, Sally, and Adam were briefly exposed to the attack before we Shielded them. I put the Amulets on them for additional protection until you came back.

Henry we are unsure about. Drew somehow traveled to The Doors while not Dreaming and conversed with the being he calls Eleleth. Evidently, this being helped save them by using Henry either as a vessel or a conduit. His vitals are stable, but I am unable to reach his Mind.

Pat's eyes sparkled, Understanding the issue with the boys, Sally, and Adam, perceiving faint traces of Void Energy within them. The neon-green power laced through their Hearts, Minds, and Souls, corrupting them, and seemed to be increasing like a virus but at an extremely slow rate.

Henry, though, was utterly different, shining with a Light so bright Pat could barely look at him. The Light wasn't of the Spiritual Realm, but rather the First Creation, and Henry was consumed with it.

Lane: Take off the Amulets.

Tense and fearful for their sons, Bill and Kevin leaned over them, stroking their hair. Gently lifting their heads, the two men removed the Amulets, while Loy removed Sally's and Rick removed Adam's.

With the Amulet's off the boys, Sally, and Adam, whichever Mentalist touched them Read them, but there was nothing to discern they didn't already know. Henry was the big mystery, as whatever he did seemed hidden from their Avatars, even those with their Gifts.

Looking at Pat, Lane thought: You're on point, Pat. The part of your Avatar that comes from Ricky can eradicate the energy. After you do your thing, I'll Heal them for safe measure.

Trying to reassure Bill and Kevin, he thought: Don't worry, guys. They're going to be just fine.

To try and get them to smile, he thought: Their favorite Uncle is on the job. Just think of the brownie points I'm going to get for this!

Collectively all their eyes rolled, but his comment got the desired result, and Lane felt their arms on his shoulders and around him hugging him back.

Still merged, they all knew where to stand, although it was awkward with everyone scattered across three exam rooms with two on the opposite sides of the hallway. However, in a matter of seconds, they all stood at the vector points of Rick's Primary Avatar.

Once in position, a thread of relief ran through them that now one Body held a Gift, so their Avatars were functional where the First Creation and the Void were concerned.

Calling on their sources of Power, the Spiritual landscape around them changed as the ghostly image Yggdrasil appeared around and over them, its branches filled with Animal Spirits waiting to be reborn. The Mentalists, coordinated by Brad, fluttered their merged Souls back and forth across the Veil while Listening to the Music of the Second Creation.

Filled with Power, their eyes flashed White as gold, azure, and crimson Power erupted from their Energy Centers, blending into a thick White rope arcing between them. Controlling the flows, Pat's Avatar synchronized with the other Bodies and the Light turned liquid, sinking into Sally, Adam, Tommy, and Brett.

Filling the boys, Sally, and Adam like vessels, the Light of the guys eradicated the foreign energies residing within them almost instantly. Then, less than a second later, a White Rope of Healing followed from Lane, gentle but Powerful, into all of them.

Waking, the boys looked confused at the worried expressions on their dad's faces. The tears in Kevin and Bill's eyes told the boys something was wrong, and Kevin and Bill grabbed them, holding them tight, filled with relief.

Adam and Sally woke, confused as well, with no recollection of what happened.

Waking to see the guys surrounding them wearing their assault suits was a shock, and Brad pulled Sally and Adam into a Link to share the memories of the last few minutes.

Henry remained unconscious, still shining with a Light so bright Lane, Loy, and Pat could hardly look at him. None of the others perceived the powerful aura within him but were aware of it through their Brothers who carried their Gifts.

Seeing Tommy, Brett, Sally, and Adam awake upset Drew, and crying, he hugged his dad, laying his head on Henry's chest.

In a quiet, pleading voice, he whispered, "Wake up, dad. Please wake up."

It hurt seeing Drew so upset, and none of them had an answer. The mystery of how Henry came to wield Eleleth's sword and vanquished the Demons wouldn't be solved until he woke up.

Drifting in the Light of the Last Archon, Henry didn't want to leave. As Eleleth surmised, Children of the Second Creation, even Awakened and free of The Curse, could not contain his essence. However, as Eleleth also stated, Henry had been touched by God himself, the Creator of everything, allowing him to be a vessel to his Power.

Now, the unknown consequences to their blending were realized.

Neither of them wanted to separate, just as the first time Ken and Brad merged, the night before the ritual that Awakened their Nephilim Heritage allowing their Souls to become One along with their Hearts and Minds. The perfection of being one another was so consuming, they wanted to lose themselves in one another forever.

It was the same with Henry and Eleleth but vastly stronger and more intense. Eleleth marveled at the human he was now a part of. Seeing everything about Henry, he was unique among all humans of the Second Creation.

Taken by Evil and forced into servitude, he was rescued by his Nephilim Brothers and adopted son and forged into something entirely new. Then, touched by God, he attained a much more subtle strength and wisdom. His insight had grown and continued to grow, as well as his Heart and Soul.

Henry became what he needed to be, regardless of any consequences to himself, to Protect and save his son, the oldest living human Soul and the Crux of The Curse.

His pain and sacrifices were felt in all Realm's, sending out ripples even the Nephilim were unaware of, and his love for Drew literally shook the foundations of the Second Creation fighting the very nature of The Curse.

Eleleth missed his Brothers, losing them one by one across trillions of years. Each one broke his Heart a little more, yet in Henry he found another kinship, one he never expected to feel again. Deep within his innermost thoughts, he did not want to separate from Henry any more than Henry wanted to separate from him. The fulfillment each experienced was wholly unexpected and overpowering.

Each felt bound to the other, yet each held duties and responsibilities that could not be denied.

Outside the Arc of Time, the two spent eternity resting in each other, bound together and unconditionally loving each other. Their joy and contentment were indescribable, yet each knew at some point they had to part and return to themselves within Time.

In the furthest reaches of Henry's Heart, he heard Drew's tear-filled plea for him to wake. Hearing his son cry sparked a series of memories and emotions, from the first time Drew hugged him to his sacrifice and death by The Master's hand, and more recently, visions of Drew's happiness at having a semblance of an everyday life.

The day Drew got his baseball uniform from Henry and all the accessories from his Uncles was there, and going out to eat after they played ball. So proud to wear his uniform, his excitement also spiked when Henry handed him a credit card to pay for everyone's meal. Drew wanted to be a grown-up so bad; Henry fought back tears that day at how happy such a normal activity made his son.

Drew's voice and the memories it evoked was the spark that gave Henry the strength to pull away. Feeling not only Drew's hands on him but his Brothers, and through their touch the worry and fear they held for him reinforced the need of his presence in their lives.

Eleleth: I fear, Henry, if we ever blend again, we may not be able to overcome this.

Henry's reply was so quiet it was barely discernable, even within his Soul.

I know.

Bill and Kevin took the boys back to their apartment to talk to them.

Looking wide-eyed and lost, Adam kept running his hand through his hair, brushing it back off his forehead in a nervous gesture.

Ken's stomach growled, but no one gave him shit about it.

Sally, picking up on the situation, quietly said, "I'll order some food. You guys stay with Henry and Drew."

Every one of the guys hugged her, holding her tightly and making sure she was alright. Henry was one of her best friends and she wanted to stay with him, but keeping busy was one of her coping mechanisms, and she knew they would let her know immediately if anything changed.

Moving to Henry's bedside, she brushed his hair back and kissed his forehead.

Seeing Adam so bewildered, she said, "Adam, why don't you come with me. We can talk while the guys stay with Henry."

Adam's conflict over leaving Henry's side was evident to Brad's Avatar and he wondered why, so putting a hand on Adam's shoulder, he asked, "Are you alright?"

With the skin contact Brad Read Adam and realized only seconds before the attack he and Henry had merged. Brad's Avatar pulsed under his Kevlar but not bright enough to shine through.

All of the guys became aware of what happened through Brad, and a smattering of `fuck me's' and `holy shits' followed in the Link. Along with their concern over Henry, everything about Adam became known to them, breaking their Hearts.

At the same time, their pride and love for Henry at his actions swelled within them. The loving care he showed for Adam's plight brought fresh tears to their eyes, and they missed his presence even more.

Ken: B, I know you wanna be here, but you should go talk `ta him. Loy, why don't you and Ricky join him.

Knowing Rick's Avatar would be more effective in helping Adam, along with Loy's conversation skills and empathy, Brad sent a private thought to Ken.

You know I'm supposed to be the smart one, right?

Even with his concern over Henry, Ken smirked.

Please don't get me started. I don't want Henry `ta wake up `ta me bein' all worked up.

Leaning over, Brad kissed Ken's temple and ruffled his hair before leaving the room.

I love you, Ken.

Winking, the sparkle in Ken's eyes told Brad how much he loved him back.

After Brad left the room, with a sigh Ken took one of Drew's hands and put it on Henry's, then closed his hands over theirs. Moving behind Drew, Bryan kept a hand on his back, gently rubbing his thumb back and forth like Henry did to help keep him calm and focused on a task.

In Drew's Mind and Heart every one of his Uncles held him, whispering soothing and supportive words into his Heart and Soul, not leaving him alone for a second. Their fierce love and protectiveness were a rock for him just as his dad was, and they kept him calm while they waited.

Fifteen minutes Henry's hand moved under Drew and Ken's, and his eyes opened.

"Dad!"

Sobbing, Drew hugged Henry as hard as he could, practically laying across his torso. Henry's arms immediately encircled his son, and looking up he found everybody gathered around him, and the relief on their faces and tears in their eyes reinforced his love and devotion towards all of them.

Everyone stood immediately, reaching for him, and Brad pulled them together, merging them so deep Time stopped moving.

Appearing naked with all of them in that special place, with immese relief in his Mental voice, Aaron thought: Welcome back, my boy. Do you know where you were?

His eyes bright, Henry replied: Not exactly. I was in another place, and I didn't know how to come home.

Trying to make light of it, Lane thought: So, you weren't in Kansas anymore?

Lane always made him smile, and after finally reading the entirety of Tolkien's works to understand Lane's endless references, he one-upped his Brother.

I was the Light of Laurelin, Lane, and Eleleth the Light of Telperion, and when we blended, we became more than the Light of all the Silmaril's combined.

Stunned, Lane thought: Holy shit, Henry...

Smirking at the look on Lane's face, his grin faltered quickly, though. Now that he was separated from Eleleth, fear hit Henry hard and fast at how easily he seemed willing to give up his son and Brothers to be with the Archon.

His realization was shocking to himself and all of them, but as always, there was no blame. Their fierce, unconditional love surrounded him, and being back with them was all that mattered.

Unexpectedly, Henry started sobbing.

I'm sorry, guys. God, Drew can't find out...

The guys were speechless, even Brad, but the doctor moved forward, taking Henry's face in his hands.

Henry... first of all, your actions were to save your son and us. As always, your bravery knew no bounds. What you did was something no one else in all Creation could do, and you did it selflessly regardless of the personal cost to you. Merging with such a being, it is a wonder you survived at all.

It was Drew's voice, his hands and Kenneth's, and the touch of your Brothers that gave you what you needed to come back to us. You dealt with a being that helped God sing the First Creation into being. Eleleth himself did not know the full consequences of your combined actions, and as difficult as it was, you found the strength to come back to us. Do not blame yourself or think yourself weak. The strength it took to separate from him... there are no words, my boy.

Henry never broke eye contact with the doctor while he spoke, and he saw something he rarely witnessed... a smile on Aaron's face as he spoke. There was no doubt in Henry of the doctor's love for him, but his words and touch reaffirmed it all, giving him what he needed, a perspective to wrap his head around.

Gripping the doctor's hand, he thought: Thank you, doc.

Before Lane could say anything, Henry cut him off, thinking: There's nothing wrong with good manners, Lane.

Relief flooded into all of them, and through their tears, the shit-talking started.

Loy: Fuck, we have to figure out a new title for this one. Ball Bane and Dick Destroyer to the Eschphene isn't good enough anymore.

Lane: Don't forget Betrayer. The Master and Luke gave you that one.

Brad: Or father to the Second Redeemer.

Darren: Fuck, Henry, you keep collecting titles we peons can't touch.

Bill: Don't forget the usuals too, like dickhead, asswipe, fucker...

... oops, sorry, doc.

Looking around at the handsome faces staring back at him, Henry's voice took on the tone of the guy from the Budweiser Beer commercial from the mid-1990s, and he blurted out, "I love you, man!"

In the place where they were One, he addressed each of them individually and was pulled into a tight embrace by each of his Brothers.

When Ken saw the conversation with Sally early that morning in Henry's memory about training Adam with a raging hard-on, he laughed so hard he cried.

Henry to Ken: Yeah, I never felt the truth of that statement so keenly until this morning.

After another pause, he continued to everyone: So, I see you know I merged with Adam this morning, and it went well. It was a bit of a risk and a little rocky at first, but...

Brad interjected: Your reasoning was sound, and we all trust your insight, Henry. You read the situation perfectly, and I'm glad you did it.

Henry: Doc, do you have any idea when you'll know more about his family?

Albrecht answered: I hope to hear back from a few of my contacts soon. Perhaps this afternoon or tomorrow. Adam's family has virtually no online presence to track, so I have someone investigating.

Kevin: Guys...

By the tone of Kevin's voice and his sudden emotional surge, everyone knew what he was going to say.

My nephew Zack... after Adam, I can't stop thinking about him.

Albrecht: I haven't had any luck finding him yet, Kevin, but I haven't stopped looking.

Kevin: I know... part of me hopes he's still alive and part of me doesn't. If he's still alive, the things he'll have done...

Taking Kevin's hand, Bill thought: We don't know anything for sure, Kev.

Following Kevin's comments about Zack, an idea popped into Henry's head from his unconscious Mind, becoming a part of all of them.

Henry: Guys... Adam's handler was one of the `suits' that attacked us. Adam said there were two other Protectors he knew of whose handlers vanished just like his. The other two I killed had to be the ones he spoke of. That makes me want to push harder and find the other two Protectors if they're still alive.

It makes me wonder if Luke is collecting the remnants of The Enemy that are still alive and hiding after The Master's death. We've cleared out Atlanta for the most part, but the rest of the country and the world is still covered with them.

Brad smiled: I like where you're going with this, Henry.

I... We have to get Adam situated and figure out what's going on with his family. I haven't exactly talked to him about this yet, but my guess is he'll feel the same way I did after you rescued me. He knows what The Enemy is capable of, and he might want to join us. If we can find others, we might end up with a small army of our own. With Luke's new underlings, we could sure use some backup.

Looking around, he wanted to gauge their expressions to match the emotions that were a part of him.

Raising his eyebrows, Ken's little kid grin appeared, and he thought: Okay, I'm hard.

Throwing up his hands, Brad thought: Well, we know Ken thinks it's a good idea. Thanks, Henry; I'll send you the hospital bill after he's ravaged me tonight.

All of them busted out laughing but quickly quieted, pondering Henry's idea and running with it on their own. Could they Awaken Adam and a few of the others? Or just as importantly, should they? There were many questions to explore, but it was an encouraging thought, and they needed the positivity.

The food Sally ordered arrived and within minutes there was nothing left but paper wrappers and empty cups.

While eating, it became obvious that all three of the boys, Drew in particular, were rattled by everything that had happened. Brad's Avatar, and the other Mentalists who shared his, clearly saw it. Knowing their kids so well, Henry, Bill, and Kevin noticed it too, and as usual all the guys came to the rescue.

One of the first signs of something wrong was Drew didn't want to watch any episodes of Lost in Space, which irritated Tommy and Brett.

Standing up, Bryan whistled loudly to get everyone's attention.

With all eyes on him, he said, "I'm making dinner here tonight, so everyone be back by 1900. Be here or be afraid."

Heading to the kitchen, he started looking to see what he had available to cook with. Lane followed to help and set up the ice cream maker for dessert.

To distract their sons and head off any unpleasantness between the boys, Bill said, "We have a few hours before dinner. How about we head to the Congo Base and go swimming?"

ZEUS was always their first choice for swimming, but the underground Congo Base seemed a safer choice. So far, the Demons only appeared to get to Drew, so all of them might be safe if he wasn't with them, but that was just a hypothesis, and none of them wanted to take a chance until they knew more. With the base being underground and Protected by Enochian Runes, it and the Uluru Base were the most defensible Bases they had.

Tommy and Brett jumped at the chance and excitedly ran to their room to put on their swim trunks.

After a quick glance at Rick, Loy said, "Me and Ricky will tag along if that's okay. Anyone else?"

Sally piped up, saying, "Unless it's an all-guy thing, I'd love to join you."

The doctor's voice entered their Minds: Albrecht has just received a phone call with information on Adam's family. Unfortunately, the news is not good.

Henry: Oh, no. I'm going to bail on the swimming then, guys. I'd better stick around for this.

Ken: Me and B'll stay, too.

Pat: Dar and I are going to hop in the hot yoga room. We want to meditate and focus on my Gift and maybe try a few things out, but we'll be here if needed.

Smirking, Dar followed up: We promise not to blow up the building.

Out loud, Henry said, "Drew, honey, I need to stay here, but why don't you go swimming with Tommy and Brett? You'll have fun."

Sounding subdued, Drew said, "No thanks. I don't feel like it."

Before anyone said anything else, Bryan interjected, calling from the kitchen, saying, "Well, I can use your help, Tiger, if you want to hang with me. Feeding this bunch of bottomless pits is hard work, and I can use an extra set of hands."

One of Drew's favorite things to do was help Bryan cook, and he perked up a little, saying, "Sure!"

Henry: Thanks, Bry. You're awesome.

Bryan: Of course I am, and you're welcome. Don't worry, I'll keep him busy.

A few minutes later, Darren synchronized their Avatars and translocated Bill, Kevin, Loy, Rick, Sally, Tommy, and Brett to the Congo base to swim.

Pat and Darren went into the locker room to disrobe and started heating the rocks in the yoga room.

With everyone disappearing and doing their thing the Lab quieted considerably, and Henry approached Adam, who sat on the couch in the lounge, lost in his thoughts. Seeing how out of place he looked, Henry felt bad for him on top of everything else. After years of servitude and now freedom, he had no home or life and it sounded like things were about to get worse.

Sitting beside him, Henry said, "Adam, can you come into the Conference Room with us? Albrecht said he has some news about your family."

Standing, Henry held out his hand and pulled Adam to his feet.

In reply to Adam's questioning look, Henry said, "I don't know anything yet. Albrecht just said he has news and wants you to come in and talk."

Adam stopped in the doorway when he saw Aaron, Albrecht, Ken, and Brad waiting, and he swallowed.

As soon as he saw Adam, the doctor said, "Adam, my boy, come in, come in. Have a seat."

Brad said, "Adam, I'd like to pull you into a Link with us before we go any further. Is that alright?"

Adam's tension was palpable to Brad's Avatar and to Ken through Brad. Aaron, Albrecht, and Henry also saw it, and Henry, sitting beside Adam, covered Adam's hand with his own.

Squeezing Adam's hand, Henry reiterated, "No matter what we hear, Adam, everyone in this room is behind you, alright? So good or bad, we're with you. You're not alone."

His complexion pale and sweaty, Adam didn't trust himself to speak, but he nodded to Brad.

Immediately, Adam was surrounded by the emotional support of everyone in the room. Brad didn't make the Link deep enough to converse, but their presence wrapped around him. Even though Adam and Henry had merged, everything was still new to him, and Brad wanted to take things slow. As strong as Adam seemed, he was also fragile in many ways, and none of them wanted to push him beyond his ability to cope.

Standing, Albrecht went to the lectern, activating the large display on the wall.

Three pictures appeared, and Adam gasped, covering his mouth as his eyes filled with tears. He barely recognized his wife, Julie. Even though she had changed a lot, he recognized his Maddie.

AJ, though, he knew from his Dreams.

Adam's chest tightened to the point where he could barely breathe and his body tensed, flushing a deep red.

Instead of stopping to support Adam more in-depth, Brad's Intuition told him it would be best to keep moving and get everything out in the open first.

The pictures of AJ and Julie were from their school photos taken the previous year, and neither of them smiled. Maddie's expression seemed almost stony.

Looking at Adam with compassion, Albrecht said, "I'm afraid the situation with your family is not good, Adam. A few years after you disappeared, Julie remarried, but things didn't go well. Her new husband, Andrés Ramos, is a good man.

"They didn't meet until three years after your disappearance. Julie had a difficult time..."

Adam interjected, saying, "She thought I abandoned her and the kids."

Quietly, Albrecht said, "Yes, Adam. She did."

Henry squeezed Adam's hand.

"She turned to drugs and her job didn't support her habits, so she began selling herself for extra money. She often left AJ and Maddie on their own, but Maddie was old enough to help AJ get by. Arrested quite a few times, Julie's situation continued escalating until she ended up in prison.

"When that happened, the state put Maddie and AJ in temporary foster care. Then, while out on bond waiting for her court date her car broke down, and Andrés Ramos was the mechanic she went to.

"There was an instant attraction between them, and Andrés helped her get her life straightened out as much as he could. He's a successful business owner and financially stable and took care of Julie while helping her get the children back.

"However, something happened four years ago that caused Julie to relapse. Andrés still takes care of the children, but he's busy with work. AJ resents him because he's not you. Andrés tries very hard with him, but they don't get along well.

"Maddie, even as young as she is, has become an addict like her mother. As good a man as Andrés is, he's had enough with Julie and is filing for a divorce and custody of the children."

As the story unfolded, Adam's tears increased.

Fighting to speak, he asked, "Why didn't AJ say anything about this? In his Dreams we played catch, and he told me so many things..."

Aaron interjected, "Adam, in AJ's Dreams his life is perfect, being a normal boy with a father he loves, doing what he has always wanted to do."

"I'm the furthest thing from a perfect father, and once he realizes that he'll never want to be with me."

Putting a hand on Adam's shoulder, Henry said, "Like the Wolf-Spirit told you, Adam, he doesn't need to know those things."

"What can I say about being gone eight years? What can I possibly tell him that will explain why I left him almost his entire life and then just show back up like nothing happened?"

Leaning forward, Ken said, "One thing at a time, Adam. Let's hear everythin' first."

Steeling himself, Adam nodded for Albrecht to continue.

"Adam, what happened to Julie that caused her relapse seemed a mystery at first, but my contact pieced together what happened.

"Her dealer is a pawn of The Enemy, and one day when she met with him, she saw you. She made a scene, and through word of mouth the incident made its way back to someone higher in The Enemy ranks, and when they realized who she was, out of sheer cruelty, a `suit' entered into her Mind.

"It's unclear what was done to her, but she's never been the same since. We won't know her condition until we find her, but I think she's been a victim just as you were, Adam."

Putting his head down on the desk, Adam started quietly sobbing.

Brad created a separate Link with Henry, Aaron, Albrecht, himself, and Ken.

Brad: Oh, boy. He blames himself for all of this.

Ken: God, he didn't need this. He's already close `ta breakin'...

Aaron: The situation is tragic and typical of The Enemy, but let us not lose hope.

Brad: Doc, do you have any ideas on how to handle the situation with Adam's family? Andrés seems like a good man who's trying to do the right thing. If we get Adam his kids back, Andrés is going to be terribly hurt.

Ken: I'm thinkin' longer-term here, but if Adam helps us with other Protectors, his family will have `ta be brought into the loop. That's not somethin' he can cover up. Andrés is an unknown on that, but my first thought is he can't be involved for his safety and ours. The more people that know, the greater risk of exposure.

Aaron: I agree, Kenneth.

Albrecht: On the other hand, if Andrés proves himself, his place of business might be an excellent conduit to make contact and traffic lost Protectors to us. In fact, I think Raphael Martinez could be brought in as well. It's all conjecture at this point, but food for thought.

Henry's discomfort over Adam was very clear through the Link, so their discussion halted, and their focus returned to Adam.

His tears thick, Adam's voice cracked as he whispered, "Julie... I'm sorry. God, this is all my fault. She'll never forgive me for all of this."

To snap Adam out of it, Ken used his Captain's voice, saying, "Adam! Look at me!"

His eyes wide, Adam turned to make eye contact.

"This isn't your fault. You need `ta shed that thought right now and stop goin' back `ta it. I know it's hard, but it isn't true. Feelin' guilty is natural, but The Enemy is responsible for all of this. You were and are a victim, and so is your family. The best way `ta get revenge is `ta get past it, and find a way `ta be happy, and we're here `ta help you get there."

Brad's Avatar glowed softly, his Compassion for Adam welling to the surface. Sitting on the other side of Ken, Brad couldn't reach Adam to touch him, so his eyes turned White and his Mind and Heart filled Adam's thoughts.

Listen to Ken, Adam. Have hope that somehow things will turn out alright. The Master is dead and you're free, two things you thought would never happen. You merged with Henry and know there's a path to redemption. No, it isn't an easy one, but it exists, and you have to be strong enough for your family to grasp it with all your strength and not let go. There might be setbacks, but we're all here for you and your family.

Adam's expression relaxed, and some of the tension in his posture went away. Fresh tears filled his eyes, but it was from the Unconditional love from Brad and the others surrounding him.

Adam's Mind had been in a dark place so long, it kept wanting to return. It was a known reaction to trauma in the human psyche under The Curse. The doctor spoke to all the men at great length about it, and they had to be patient with Adam and others like him. No matter how many times they had to remind him, they would, with no judgment.

Ken asked out loud, "Albrecht, do you know who Julie's dealer is?"

"I have his street name, but that's it. I'm sure I can track him down with little difficulty."

Brad interjected, "With `suits' disappearing, or being taken by Luke... I'd like to find the one that messed with Julie before he goes missing if he hasn't already. That will solve the piece of this puzzle we don't have and give us a more definitive course of action."

Holding his hand out, Albrecht formed a memory sphere, saying, "Here is the address of Andrés shop and their home. It's a bit of a drive from here, down by Newnan. I don't want to keep disturbing Darren, so Aaron and I will go by car and maintain a Link with him in case we run into trouble.

"I'll be in contact once we are there and know more."

Ken said, "Alright."

There was no need for Ken to tell them to be careful. After thousands of years, their mentors knew how to take care of themselves and be discreet. Yet, feeling his concern through the Link regardless, they tightened their Hearts around him in a Mental hug.

Once Aaron and Albrecht left the room, Ken turned to Adam, who was leaning back in his chair, red-eyed. He kept brushing his hair back and looked up towards the ceiling, not making eye contact with any of them while his mind spun from everything he learned.

Ken said, "You're in good hands, Adam. You have no idea who the doc and Albrecht are or what they're capable of, but with them on the case, the odds of everythin' workin' out in your favor go up considerably.

"You also have us."

Adam stammered, "You've all done so much for me already. I... I don't know how I can ever repay you, but I don't know what to do. This entire situation is so unreal, but it is, and I'm scared shitless. If Julie..."

Whatever Adam was going to say was interrupted by Ken.

"Adam, I know it's all overwhelmin', but you need `ta break all this down into more manageable pieces. One step at a time. You're with us, so you have a home. Anything you need is here. Sally can order you any clothes you want, and there's always food. You have your room, and I mean that literally. That is your room, for as long as you're with us. Money isn't a problem. You have friends who care and have your back."

Brad followed, saying, "What he's saying is you don't have to worry about any of the small day-to-day stuff, so let any thoughts or concerns about any of that go, and let's focus on you and your family."

Lifting Drew up by his armpits, Bryan set him on the counter.

"Okay, Tiger, we have some big decisions to make, like what to cook for dinner. I have everything to make chicken rolls, spaghetti, lasagna, or beef stew with biscuits. What do you think?"

Staring at the Conference Room door Drew seemed distant, which was very unlike him. He wanted to be with Henry, and after everything that happened, it was clear why.

Lane: Get ready, Bry. There's a storm brewing in him.

With an internal sigh, Bryan responded: I know. Fuck, I hate this for him!

Putting his hand under Drew's chin, he said, "Hey Drew, look!"

Drew glanced down and when he did Bryan brought his hand up, pinching Drew's nose and making him giggle.

"Uncle, Bryan!"

"You fall for that every time, Tiger!"

Ruffling Drew's short hair, Bryan said, "Okay... about dinner. Thoughts, please."

Grinning, Drew said, "Spaghetti, but can we do the cheesy kind with meatballs?"

"I don't have to be a Mindreader to know that's what you were going to say."

"Uncle Lane says I'm predictable, just like Uncle Ken."

Bryan couldn't help the laugh that burst out of him.

Bryan: Fuck, he hears and remembers everything! I can't wait to rib Ken about that one.

Still laughing, he said, " Yes, you are, kiddo, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Okay, spaghetti it is. Hop down and go get three dozen eggs out of the walk-in fridge."

Drew jumped down and Bryan followed but went into the walk-in freezer to pull out the meat.

Bryan: Hey Dar, I'm sorry but I need to hop to The Valley quick. I'm taking Drew with me. Can you bring me back in a few minutes?

Dar: No problem, Bry. Is Lane going?

I don't think so; he's working on dessert.

Feeling Bryan's underlying concern for Drew, Darren deepened their Link.

Darren: Shit.

Bryan: Yeah. We'll call for backup if we need it.

Darren: We'll be ready if he needs us. Poor little guy.

Coming out of the refrigerator, Drew carefully carried the eggs and set them on the counter.

Bryan said, "Good job. Now, in the extra storeroom off the locker room, bring me the big wicker basket, a few of the white cotton sacks, and three water skins."

"What do we need those for?"

"Because we're going on a quick trip."

Drew's face lit up like a Christmas tree and he almost shouted, "To The Valley!? Can we see Leroy?"

"We won't have time on this trip, but I promise we'll visit him soon. This has to be fast."

While Drew scampered off to the storeroom, Bryan quickly pulled out more items and sharpened his cooking knives.

Lane: Fuck, you're good with him, Bry.

Turning, Bryan saw the emotional brightness in Lane's eyes, and he leaned over to kiss his husband.

Thanks, but you are too. Hell, we all are. We've helped Henry raise him, but I'll admit I wish he was ours.

When Drew came out of the storeroom, Pat and Darren walked to the shower, drenched in sweat from the hot yoga room with towels wrapped around their waists.

"Hey, Uncle Darren. Hey Uncle Pat. Me and Uncle Bry are going to grow vegetables for dinner!"

As soon as they saw Drew, both Pat's and Darren's Avatars reacted in different ways but for the same reason.

Kneeling down to be at eye level with Drew, Darren's eyes flashed White and the sweat evaporated off their bodies.

Grinning, Darren said, "What's for dinner?"

"Cheesy spaghetti with meatballs!"

Pat said, "You know, hanging around Bryan, you're turning into quite the chef! Gordon Ramsey better watch out!"

"Uncle Lane says he's a wuss and I'm already better."

Laughing, Darren said, "I bet he's right."

Pat and Darren both kissed the top of Drew's head before swatting his bottom, sending him back to the kitchen.

<>

"Alright, Little Buddy. Hold the fort down for a few minutes. Do you want anything for the ice cream? Fresh strawberries? Banana's?"

"Vanilla beans and strawberries. Would you have time to get fresh cream from the cows?"

Drew heard the conversation as he came back in the kitchen, and excited, he asked, "Can I milk them, Uncle Bry?"

Looking at Lane, Bryan said, "It'll be a tight squeeze time-wise, but yeah, we can do that. I'm going ahead to get started. We'll need a few of the big skins for the milk, so grab those and bring them to us. You'll have to call the cows, and then you can head back while we finish up."

Taking all the items from Drew, Bryan held out an arm, saying, "Come on up. Let's get this show on the road."

When Bryan leaned over, Drew put his arms around his neck, wrapping his legs around Bryan's waist when he straightened up.

Drew knew the drill well, hugging Bryan's body tightly and burrowing his face against Bryan's neck.

Wearing a sleeveless tank top and workout shorts, Bryan's Avatar was exposed on his muscled shoulder, and in a bright flash of Emerald Green energy, he and Drew disappeared.

<>

Immediately the heat and humidity of The Valley surrounded them like an old friend, and the Life Energy of Yggdrasil pushed into Bryan, fulfilling his dual nature as an Original, Unfallen Man and Nephilim.

Bryan felt fully alive in The Valley, at the Heart of his Power. Grinning to himself, he knew Lane was in for a workout later that night. Going to The Valley made Bryan hornier than a goat from all the excess Energy he stored up.

Immediately after Drew's encounter with The Master and sacrificing himself, he didn't want to come back to the place he was born. It took a lot of counseling from the doctor but Drew decided to come along on a few of their camping trips and did a complete one-eighty. Other than ZEUS, The Valley, especially when he got to visit Leroy, was his favorite place.

His Soul had a connection to where he was born. They all saw it, Understanding it, especially Pat. The first human Souls entered the world in that place, holding a sanctity unlike anywhere else on the planet, and Drew was a part of it. As he grew older it became more pronounced, and they wondered how much deeper it would get. Already far more Powerful than he was three years ago, they wondered how much stronger Drew would get.

Loosening his legs, Drew slid down Bryan's body. Bryan stripped off his shirt and said, "That baseball uniform is going to be hot. I should have had you change before we left. Why don't you take off your shirt at least and roll up your pants so you won't be so hot."

Bryan: Lane, can you grab a pair of shorts and a t-shirt for Drew?

Lane: On it. I'll be there in a jiffy.

Setting down the basket, bags, and skins, Bryan rummaged through his bag of seeds. When making spaghetti for the kids, he only used oregano, basil, parsley, and garlic. Anything else was too much for their young palettes and resulted in a triple `yuck.' Of course, he also had to use Velveeta cheese, making it Ken's favorite dinner as well.

Not long after The Master's demise, Bryan discovered that within the confines of The Valley, as its Protector he could translocate at will, much like Darren and the Mentalists. It made his visits much more convenient and lessened the strain on Lane to move them around. The other bodies could as well, and it made their camping trips easier and more relaxed.

Grabbing the skins, Brayn said, "I'll be right back, Tiger."

Translocating to the nearby stream he quickly filled the water skins, and on returning, found Drew naked except for his underwear with his uniform neatly folded and set on his cleats.

Shrugging his shoulders, Drew said, "It's really hot, and I don't want to get my pants dirty when I milk the cows."

"Good thinking."

Handing the water skins to Drew, he said, "Okay, Tiger, I'll tell you when."

Slinging two over his shoulder, Drew held the third in his hands.

Tossing three tomato seeds on the ground, Bryan's Avatar glowed softly, causing the seeds to sprout, controlling their growth, and guiding the roots into the soil.

"Okay, start pouring."

Tilting the skin, Drew trickled the water out like Bryan showed him, careful not to start with too much. As the plants grew larger, he increased the stream until the skin was empty, and then he switched.

Winking at Drew, Bryan said, "Perfect, kiddo. You've really got this down."

Smiling at the praise Drew continued his task, and in only a few minutes three large plants packed with lush, ripe, perfect red tomatoes stood ready to be harvested.

Setting the basket down beside them, Bryan and Drew picked them off the vine.

"This is a lot of tomatoes, Uncle Bry."

"I know, but I figured we'd grow more and have extra for a few days for sandwiches, or whatever."

Grinning cheekily, Drew winked and said, "Good thinking," in the same tone Bryan used a minute before.

Laughing, Bryan said, "You little shit."

Lane appeared just in time to hear Bryan's comment, and Drew looked up, saying, "Uncle Lane! Uncle Bryan's using bad words!"

"Yeah, I heard that! I'll spank him later, I promise."

Tossing Drew some shorts and a t-shirt, he said, "Here you go, Mowgli."

"Thanks, Uncle Lane."

"If Loy were here he could be Baloo, but don't tell him I said that."

Picking up Drew's uniform and cleats, Lane said, "I'll take these back. Everything in them is natural so they won't fall apart here, but there's no need to risk getting them dirty."

"Thanks, Uncle Lane."

After stuffing his t-shirt in his shorts Drew took the extra skins from Lane.

Closing his eyes, Lane's Avatar came to life as he cast his Awareness out into the animals of The Valley. The same two cows they milked on their last visit were not too far away, and he Called them.

"Alright, the cows are on their way, and you have the skins, so I'll leave you men here to do what manly men do. Grow veggies and milk cows."

Bryan: Why don't you stay? You can't do anything until we get back.

I know, Bry, but it's good bonding time with you and Drew. He rarely gets one-on-one time with any of us, and I think it will be good for both of you.

You've been watching too much Oprah and Dr. Phil.

Laughing, Lane shot him a bird.

With no fanfare or bolts of lightning, Lane vanished as he translocated back to Atlanta at the safe spot in the Lab.

By the time Bryan grew the herbs, strawberries, and vanilla beans and harvested them, the cows showed up with their calves. Bryan didn't sense any aggression in the mothers towards Drew when he ran to pet the calves, but he set his presence in them just to be sure.

Taking the skins Lane left, Bryan tossed two to Drew, leaving two for himself.

"Okay, Tiger, two skins each. Let's hop to it. Do you remember how to do it?"

"Yes, sir."

Bryan raised an eyebrow as Drew started masterfully filling the first skin, then remembered how many cows Drew must have milked in his past lives.

"The last time you did this, did you taste it? There's nothing like fresh milk straight from the udder."

"No, sir, but it sounds gross."

"You like cereal with milk, right?"

"Yes, sir."

"So how is this different except it's not cold? It's actually better because it has all the cream in it. Open your mouth."

Drew did, and Bryan perfectly arced a stream into Drew's waiting mouth, only getting a little on his chin.

"What do you think?"

"I like it!"

"Hey, Drew."

As soon as Drew looked his way again, Bryan shot milk all over him.

"Oops!"

Drew turned his face away, giggling and crying out, "Uncle, Bryan!" but he squirted back, hitting Bryan directly in his chest. Laughing, they sprayed each other and in seconds both of them were covered and dripping milk.

"Okay, okay! We've wasted enough. There's more on us than in the skins. Let's finish up and head home. Lane can't start the ice cream until we get back."

Gathering everything up, Bryan created a small memory sphere, shooting it across the planet to Darren.

Hey Dar... we're ready, but can you put us in the shower?

<>

After rinsing off and changing clothes, Bryan and Drew headed back to the kitchen to continue preparing dinner.

Waiting for them, Lane took the skins to separate the cream from the milk, an easy task with his Avatar.

Bryan said, "Lane, when you separate the cream use a third to make butter, and the rest can go to the ice cream. Your strawberries and vanilla beans are in that bag."

To get a giggle out of Drew, Lane snapped to attention, saluting Bryan and saying, "Sir! Yes, Sir!"

Shaking his head, Bryan turned to Drew, saying, "We're going to have to step on it, kiddo, if we're going to finish everything by 1900."

Pulling out his large stone mortar and pestle, he laid out the herbs across the counter.

"Can I do that, Uncle Bryan? I like to crush them."

"Do you want to do that or help make the pasta? Your choice."

"I'll do the herbs, and maybe Uncle Lane can help with the pasta?"

Fist bumping Drew, Bryan said, "Herbs it is."

With tasks assigned, Bryan, Lane, and Drew worked non-stop, and with Bryan and Lane using their Avatars to speed up multiple parts of the process, everything moved along nicely.

Once the herbs were crushed and the pasta made, Drew stuck to Bryan like glue while he made the sauce, keeping an arm around his waist and leaning into him while they stood at the stove.

The three of them made the meatballs, and Drew's weren't perfectly round, but he did a good job. With the sauce and the meatballs simmering, the kitchen and lounge area smelled delicisous.

Resting his head against his Uncle, it wasn't until Drew sniffed loudly and hiccupped that Bryan knew something was wrong. Everything had gone so well up to that point, Bryan thought they might have averted what they saw coming earlier.

Kneeling at eye level, Bryan put a hand on Drew's shoulder and saw large, hot tears dripping down his cheeks.

In his deep, gravelly voice Bryan gently asked, "What's wrong, Tiger? I was pretty sure something's bothering you. Talk to me."

Bryan's Understanding was on fire seeing the emotional turmoil in Drew, and Lane's Avatar did the same through his Empathy and Compassion.

Lane: Pat, Dar, Henry's still in the Conference Room with Adam, Ken, and Brad. Can you come to the kitchen?

Dar: Is Drew alright?

No. I thought we avoided it, but he's not doing well. I wish the doc and Albrecht were here, but they left a while ago.

Throwing himself against Bryan, Drew hugged him so hard his arms shook. Bryan's big arms enfolded him just like Henry's and Lane closed in behind, putting his hands on Drew's back.

The Wolf-Spirit appeared, adding her presence, and she alerted Cavall and Bullet, who moved into the kitchen.

Immediately their Minds and Hearts surrounded Drew, and just like their bodies their warmth wrapped around him in all aspects while their touch tried to soothe him.

"Shhhh, it's okay, Drew. Take your time. Breathe. We've got you, and everything's fine."

When Drew could finally talk, he stammered, "But it's not fine, Uncle Bryan. Daddy almost didn't wake up, and it's my fault."

"But he did wake up, buddy. You know why he woke up? He felt your hands and heard you calling him. He loves you so much he couldn't stay away."

"But it's still my fault... I asked Mister Eleleth to help him."

Lane said, "Drew, you had to. Those Demons would have killed you both! You didn't have a choice and did the right thing."

"But the bad man is after me. It's my fault they showed up! I don't want dad or any of you to die because of me!"

Fuck, Bry. He's older this time around and comprehends more about the entire situation. He sees it as the entire situation with The Master happening all over again, and he's not exactly wrong.

Bryan, "Drew, listen to us, honey. This is happening to you. None of this is your fault. It's because of The Master and what he did to you that started all of this."

Darren and Pat came in, freshly showered and wearing their `World's Greatest Uncle' t-shirts. Immersing themselves in the Link with Bryan and Lane, Drew's four uncles tried to console him.

With no lies Mind to Mind he heard their words but still had a hard time believing them. In his Mind he was the cause of everything happening, and the reason he almost lost Henry and might again if he had to blend with Eleleth again to save him.

With the Paradox of that place, each man held him, embracing him in their strong arms. Naked, he felt the heat of their skin and the strength of their bodies, hardened into warriors to Protect him and all mankind. He felt completely safe, but their strength couldn't defend against the fact that he was the nexus of everything and could be why they all died.

Crying for hours in the place where Time didn't move, Drew soaked in the Light and Souls of his Uncles, and Lane pulled Henry, Ken, and Brad in with them, and Kevin, Bill, Ricky, and Loy from the Congo Base.

The eleven men merged, becoming One, and immediately the afternoon became known to all of them, and what was going on with Drew.

Henry: Oh God, honey, you're the bravest boy in the world! You gave up your life for all of us, so your uncles could win the fight with The Master. You're selfless and smart, and you have all of us, and Tommy and Brett who love you. The doctor, Albrecht, and Sally do too. If anything happens to us it's not because of you. You're the one keeping everyone safe! Allenor said it, and so did Eleleth. Eleleth helped me because you have to be safe so you can stop all of this!

But I don't know how!

Ken: We don't either, Tiger. Not yet, but we'll figure it out like we always do. You're one of us, family, and family sticks together. Luke's the one who's responsible for all of this, not you. He saw somethin' he shouldn't have, and it drove him mad. You're the one standin' in his way, and that doesn't make you the bad guy; it makes you the good guy!

Holding Drew like all his Brothers, Loy sat down in that dark place, settling Drew in his lap. His form shimmered as he transformed himself into a great lion, knowing Drew loved to rest on him in that shape.

Snuggling against him, Drew wrapped his arms around Loy's head as far as he could reach and Loy started purring.

Loy: We love you so much, Tiger. You make our lives better. It hurts to see you so upset.

After a short pause, Loy thought: I want to ask you a question.

Pulling back, Drew looked into Loy's big golden eyes.

Have we ever steered you wrong?

Sniffing, fresh tears dripped from Drew's eyes, and he dove against Loy's warm, furry body.

His response was a quiet and contemplative: No, Sir.

There you have it!

Since you came into our lives and became Henry's son and our nephew, have we ever lied to you? All the times when you've been upset, we've always helped you feel better. That's our job, and Henry's, in taking care of you, so listen to us this time, just like you've always listened to us in the past.

It's easy to forget things like that when you're upset, but I want to remind you how smart and brave you are and that we're here for you. We're here for each other, and you're here just as much for us.

In almost the exact words, each of his Uncles said the same thing, reiterating their loving care and support.

Their Avatars shone bright, and with Ken's words, his Will and Conviction sank into Drew, reinforcing what each of them said. They never lied to him and never would, and their unflinchingly fierce love for him once again drove out his dark thoughts.

Eventually, Drew calmed down. As they told him, he was smart and held a wisdom beyond his years, but it still took time for his Mind to process it all and become a part of him.

Henry: Feeling better?

Nodding his head and wiping his eyes, Drew thought: Yes, Sir.

Ruffling Drew's hair, Bryan asked: You ready to get back to cooking?

Grinning, Drew nodded.

Sending Drew back to his body, Brad kept everyone else together, knowing how upset Henry was.

His eyes red, he looked at all his Brothers pressed around him.

Sorry, guys. I know I do this, but God, I just want him to have a normal childhood so badly. All this shit... is it ever going to stop?

There was no answer, but their arms encircled him, and they held him as One until he settled. The main thing that always got Henry through his tough times was knowing he wasn't alone. Being a part of such incredible men, being One with them in every aspect, gave him the strength to carry on.

All of his Brothers made sure he knew how much he gave back to them in equal measure. Their lives wouldn't be the same without him either. As usual, caring for each other and sharing their burdens were the only way they could make it in the fucked-up world they lived in.

Once Henry was alright Brad sent them back to their bodies, wherever in the world that happened to be.

Dinner was a huge success, and Bryan made sure everyone knew how much Drew helped. It was obvious which meatballs were Drew's and which ones were Bryan's by their shape, but they all tasted the same.

While they ate, Tommy and Brett excitedly told everyone about riding on Uncle Loy in the pool when he transformed into a dolphin.

Lane's vanilla-bean strawberry ice cream was a hit as well, and after dessert the boys settled in front of the TV to watch Lost in Space until it was time for their reading hour and bedtime.

Although he was quiet, Adam seemed more comfortable. He went to bed early, and all the guys knew it was in hopes of Dreaming of his son, AJ, again.

On duty that night, Kevin and Bill stayed in the Lab. As was usually the case, when Tommy and Brett slept in the Lab they piled in bed with Drew.

With the boys in Henry's apartment, it gave Kevin and Bill more private time, which they put to good use, and Henry felt their powerful Auras as they made love most of the night.

Checking on the boys before crawling into his own bed, Henry smiled at seeing the bed crammed full of three boys, two dogs, and a translucent Wolf-Spirit.

As soon as Henry's head hit the pillow, his Mind traveled back to Eleleth residing within him. The seed of loneliness in Henry, that absent spot where Liz used to be, filled with the Light of the Last Archon.

The pull of the Light was still strong, but grounded in the strength of his Brothers he resisted the urge to return. Reaching out, he Linked with Kevin and Bill, not to join with them, but to feel them. They were an anchor for him to grab onto, and with their presence around him he was able to fall asleep.

However, in the back of his Mind, he knew if he and Eleleth blended again, he would most likely be unable to resist coming back to himself.

Still sweaty after their lovemaking, Bryan held Lane, spooning him in their usual position. Sleeping peacefully after exhausting themselves, their bodies molded together, bound as tightly as their Souls.

In the middle of the night, Lane's Avatar came to life on his shoulder, and under his closed eyelids his eyes turned White.

Lane knelt in a chamber, a cave, roots hung from the ceiling. A strange, warm light lit the area in a soft yellow glow, but the chamber was so hot and humid it was almost difficult to breathe. The Power in the air was even more stifling, smelling of Earth and Life.

Without knowing how, he Understood he was the first being to enter the place since the beginning of Creation, breaking the quiet sacredness.

Seeing through another pair of eyes, two brawny forearms came into his field of vision, and Lane immediately knew he was Bryan in his Dream. The vein and hair patterns on his thickly muscled forearms were etched into Lane's Mind, a part of him from being One so often.

His skin shining with a thick sheen of sweat reflecting the light, the most beautiful, realistic Raven wing tattoos ran from his elbows to just above his wrists.

Turning towards the source of the Light, he woke with a start.
