I pulled Kori to me his head was on my right arm and my left arm was over him like so many nights now and to my surprise he had his underwear on. I closed my eyes and went to sleep. . . . . Chapter 18 . . . The morning sun shone through the window and as Kori lie sleeping his face and hair was bathed in the glow of the morning sun. He appeared as sweet and innocent as an angel. I did not want to wake him. I gently slid out of bed. Quietly I made my way to the bathroom to pee and enjoy a warm shower. I turned on the shower and set the spray to its soft setting and stepped in. The warmth and gentleness of the spray was delightful and I did not hear Kori when he stepped in behind me. I was pleasantly surprised when I felt his arms around me. I turned to face him and placed my arms around him and drew him to me. What an amazing start to a new day. Kori was hard, so was I, he stepped under the spray and handed me the cloth and asked me to wash his back. I had to laugh because he wasn't shy and it was as if this were a normal start to any day. Then as I was washing his back I thought for us maybe this is a normal start for a new day. Anyway we were both sharing something special, gentle and loving. I took the strawberry shampoo and poured about enough for three people on his head and began to lather his hair then down his back to his little bum and back to his neck. He sounded much like a kitten purring and I considered this to be the epitome of contentment. His eyes were closed and I turned him around and began with his face and then his neck and continued down just past his belly button and then back up. He never stopped that purring sound. It was delightful to hear him, to see his face with his little smile and all the while his eyes tightly closed. Now Kori was enjoying this just a little too much, and as there is a little bit of devil in me, so I reached over and quickly turned the warm water to cold just for a second then right back to warm. The effect was amazing! He was shocked, mad, and happy all at the same time. After our morning shower I showed Kori how to make eggs over easy and serve them on buttered toast. We enjoyed our breakfast together. Then it was as every day was to be chores. We needed to exercise Finley and then work on Kori's bedroom. I asked Kori if he thought he could take care of Finley by himself. Kori said that was simple and so I said Ok today you do everything and I will watch. It was a simple test to see if he was ready to have his own horse. Kori came over to me and hugged me and said "Thank you for trusting me with Finley." We went to the barn and I watched every move. Kori opened the stall opposite to Finley and snapped a lead on Finley's halter opened the stall door and took Finley to the opposite stall closed and lock the stall door. Perfect. Kori then filled the water bucket, dropped two flakes of hay and began mucking the stall. He did everything without even looking at me to see if I approved. I did. It is time to look for a horse for Kori and I wanted a Morgan gelding or mare. I wanted to get the horse now because I knew what was about to happen and I thought having his own horse would help Kori with the loss of his mother. I gave Kori a big hug and told him what a great job he did and said that I could not have done better. I said it was time to let Finley out to the pasture and let him play for the day. This was the last test for Kori. Finley can be a handful. Kori walked over and picked up a short lead and snapped it onto Finley's halter opened the stall door and walked Finley to the pasture gate and released him. What surprised me most was the way Kori remained in control never letting Finley think of acting up. I was so proud of Kori. We went to the kitchen and I sat for a cup of coffee while Kori had milk and a biscuit. He sat on my lap well sort of and I told him how proud I was of him. I picked up my cell phone and called Neil. When Neil answered I told him how great Kori did with chores and Finley. Neil knows so many people I thought perhaps he might know someone with a mare or gelding for sale. All the time Kori was looking at me with this unbelievable look on his face. I called at the right time Neil knew of a gelding for sale. I asked Neil to call the people and find out more about the horse and to let me know later this afternoon. Kori and I went to his new bedroom and finished everything and the bedroom looked so good. All we needed now was a large screen TV for the entertainment center. I said to Kori . . . "Kori lets take all the boxes to the truck and all the tools and paint to the basement." We were putting the paint and tape on the shelves in the basement when I asked Kori to help me move the large box under that old tarp. I asked him to fold the tarp neatly. As Kori removed the tarp he saw the box a new 39 inch Vizio smart TV. He looked at me and asked . . . "mine?" I just nodded my head. I had never been so happy spending money as I have been in the past few weeks. Kori was beside himself. The new TV wasn't heavy and we took it upstairs and unboxed it and placed it on the entertainment center, a perfect fit. It was almost noon and Kori would have to wait to hook up the x-box. I wanted to make some soup and hot tea and take it to Myrna and see how she was and let Kori stay with her. For Kori and I there will be many tomorrows. With the hot soup and tea Kori and I headed to the truck and Kori held the box as I drove to see Myrna. We arrived and went to the door and went in. Myrna was on the couch watching TV and looked better than yesterday. It is hard to figure that one day the cancer is sucking the life from her body and the next day Myrna somehow has found the strength to fight back and hold on for another day. It is so obvious that she has failed in the last two weeks. Her face is thin and her eyes appear sunken, almost ghostly. Kori and I sat with Myrna for a little while he was near his mother and I could see in his face the concern. We cleaned the kitchen and swept the porch. I suggested that Kori should stay the afternoon but Myrna said that she wanted to take a nap and it was best Kori went with me. I reluctantly said yes but really thought Kori should have stayed. We drove in silence back to my house. Kori got out of the truck and went to the barn. Without asking he added water a flake of hay then said he wanted to check his homework. He walked by me without a smile or saying anything more and went to his room. I followed Kori but decided that perhaps it was best to leave him alone for awhile. . . . . I am not sure how to help Kori face the loss of his mother. I know that this child has an innocent loving and pure heart and I think he will be devastated. For now I need to try to bring him to a happier time. I decided to call Neil and see about the Morgan gelding. I called Neil and asked about the gelding and it really sounds perfect. Neil described the gelding; a 4 year old bay in color with a star on his head and four white stockings standing 14.5 hands to the withers. The horse is gentle and an easy feed. He has been trained as a trail horse and would be perfect for Kori. Now the good or bad news the price . . . . $5,500.00 not bad. I asked Neil when we could see the horse. Neil said . . . "the owners are moving and they would be happy to show him this afternoon, they probably would take less if they thought the gelding was going to a good home." I said lets go, come over and Kori and I will follow you or ride with us. I hung up from the call to Neil and went to Kori's room. Kori was just sitting at his desk looking at his iPad. I looked at him and said Kori, Neil is on his way and he has an emergency and needs our help. Please change in your old clothes we need to hurry. A few minutes later Neil drove in and pulled next to my truck. We all piled in and I asked Neil for directions and it was so easy. The ranch was about 5 miles past Liam's house and in a very nice area of 5 acre mini ranches with a For Sale sign posted. We drove in and Kori didn't know anything about what we were doing. The owners greeted us and were such a nice couple. We went to their barn much like mine and there in the small paddock was the amazingly gorgeous gelding. The man simply whistled and the horse, named Eric, came trotting to the fence. I think Kori knew at that point. We asked if they could saddle him and they brought out an English saddle and in minutes he was ready to ride. We opened the gate and Neil, Kori and I walked to Eric. I looked at Kori and said . . . "Well just don't stand there get on and try him out." The owners and Neil and I watched as Kori sat in the saddle, they were a match! We all watched as Kori walked Eric around the paddock they both looked so good together. He trotted a little kind of obvious that Kori needed to learn to post but other than that it was a done deal in my mind. I talked to the owners and . . . they could see in an instant what kind of boy Kori was and that this gelding would be going to a good home. Now the Price, a little talking and it was done $4,800.00 including the saddle and all the tack. I didn't expect it to be that easy. We went to the house to sign papers and they would transfer title to Kori not me but to Kori it would be his horse. Kori looked at Neil and then me and we both got hugs. Like a gentleman he shook hands with the sellers and thanked them. His next question was when we could bring Eric home. I looked at Kori and said . . . "How would now be?" The agreement was that we would have two weeks to try the gelding. There really was no doubt in my mind that everything would be great. I asked if it would be Ok if we were to go get the trailer and come back. The owners knew how excited Kori was and it was just 6 miles back to my place so they said yes. We loaded the tack in the truck and went down the road back by Liam's house and hitched my horse trailer to the truck. Then it was back up Raven Woods Rd. passed Liam's house again but this time Kori was looking and said . . . "there's Liam" we kept driving and Neil and I said nothing. We arrived at the mini ranch and dropped the ramp of the trailer and it was a pushbutton load, that gelding just walked right in. The ramp up we thanked everyone and headed back to my house. As we were riding home I was thinking and hoped that the gelding would help through the tough time ahead when his mother passed. It's never easy for anyone but it must be a tragic event for an eleven year old. As we approached Kori's trailer house Neil said . . ."Jake can you pull over and stop?" I did and he looked at me then Kori then the porch. Myrna was sitting on the porch and Neil said . . . Saddle the gelding and let Kori ride up to his mother. Kori was excited. We saddled Eric and boost Kori to the saddle and he road like a knight in shining armor to his mother. Myrna was shocked to see Kori on the gelding. Neil and I helped Myrna down the steps and over to Kori and Eric. She was so happy. We were all laughing and as Neil and Kori took Eric back to the trailer I explained to Myrna why and that I was going to buy another horse anyway. The look in her eyes told the story. There was no need for words. I told her that we would take the gelding to the barn and let Kori brush and feed him and that I would have Kori back by 8. Myrna said to have Kori stay the night that she was going to work. I said NO Myrna you stay and rest but she would not hear of it. She wanted to be at work and with her friends and people as they come in. Neil, Kori and I went down the road and pulled in by the paddock. We unloaded Eric and turned him out in the small paddock. Then we went to Finley and hooked a lead on him and took him to the large paddock and walked him around. Kori was so good about this. The two horses sniffed, squealed and did a little dance and then it was over. They looked as if everything was going to be just fine. Neil and I shook hands and I thanked him so much for his help and then he said he had things to get done so he was off to his house. Kori and I watched as the two got used to each other. It was apparent that they would be friends for now. Finley would have to be gelded. We brought both Finley and Eric in the barn and put them in diagonal stalls, then gave them water, hay and a little oats. We turned the radio on and we went to the house. Kori and I were exhausted from both the activity and the emotion of the day. The best thing was Kori was thinking of other things and his mind was off his mother's sickness. I was at the kitchen sink cutting some fruit when Kori's arms hugged me. I love the feeling of his head in the middle of my back. All I heard was "Jake I love you so much and thank you for buying Eric, but that is not why I love you. I just love you because I just love you that's all." What a nice thing to hear. How could I not turn and hug him and kiss that little blond head of his. He is the love of my life. Well we had snacks and then I knew he would be back out to the barn so there was no need to ask him to change his clothes. I said . . . "Hey Kori, Kitchen Ok, barn Ok, front porch Ok but you are not going in the living room or your new bedroom in those clothes. With that he started to strip! Oh that little bugger. "STOP" keep them on because we are going right out anyway. We went to the barn and I told Kori that it was only fare that seeing I bought Eric that he now had two horses to take care of. I thought that would get a rise out of him but he just said that's a deal. Well I let him off easy and I brushed Finley while Kori groomed Eric. I thought it was time to get dinner ready so we went in the house. We had pork chops, mashed potatoes and corn for dinner and apple pie with ice-cream. With dinner finished it was time for us to clean up and watch TV. . . . . Ok so I am waiting to see where this was going. (La de da hum diddle de de) . . . . He went to his bathroom and showered! Ok so I am standing looking down the hall expecting him to come running like he was just fooling me. No he really got in his own shower. The truth is I was looking forward to seeing that cute little butt of his. I went to my bathroom and showered and put on boxers and sweat pants then went to the living room and turned on the TV. Soon Kori appeared and pushed me over a bit and cuddle right in next to me and said "Jake you smell good." Then he watched TV. What the hell got into him? No touching, no curiosity, no rubbing my arm . . . . I think he's sick, or maybe he just took care of things in the shower. It's all good anyway we had a great day. Soon it was time for bed and school in the morning. I said time for bed and he asked . . . "Jake can you help me make my bed and can I have two pillows? I want to sleep in my new bedroom" I said . . . "Oh, sure Kori if you want to sleep in your new bed that's great I'll help you make it up." I was disappointed and a little happy at the same time, but just a little happy. We took sheets and a blanket and pillows and made his bed. I watched as he climbed up to the big bed of his. He looked small in it all by himself. I reached up messed his hair and said sleep tight I love you, goodnight. I walked down the hallway slowly thinking he would run up behind me but he didn't. I turned off the TV and all the lights and went to bed. So what is this feeling of being sorry for me? He has a new bedroom, a new everything and a new horse. Ok I'm happy, almost. I think it was about ten minutes and I was just about to sleep . . . when I heard footsteps running down the hall he ran through the door naked as a j-bird and jumped in bed with me. I said . . . "what the hell Kori!" He said . . . "I'm afraid of the dark." And with that he was laughing and started to attack me . . . he was being so bad. He tickled, poked, and then began to attack my . . . . . . . Geeez he wouldn't stop. I had to roll him on his back and sit on him but then that gave him direct access to my "thing" so in only three minutes we had destroyed my bed and had giving me an erection not to mention he was as hard as I had ever seen him. Finely we both calmed down and pulled the covers up. I was on my back and he climbed on top of me his legs straddling me and sitting just above my waist. He told me all the events of the day including seeing Liam and how much he loved his horse and bedroom. He wasn't trying anything he was being good, still very erect and I noticed something different. His erection was pointing up and I had not seen that before, like it was sticking straight up. It was very cute. Soon Kori just leaned all the way forward and laid his head on my shoulder. He kissed me and told me he loved me then rolled off me and turned over and asked me to hold him. I turned on my side and pulled Kori to me and with my arms around him I gently kissed his neck. I don't think we were like that for more five minutes when I felt his body relax and I knew he was asleep.
