Thank you jacoblion@tutanota.com . . . A Neglected Boy, "The Twins" XIII . . . . We were about half way to Block Island when Liam noticed a rather large fish break the water and exclaimed . . . . "Wow did you guys see the size of that fish?" Now that brought the attention of all of us and Kyle and Justin were at the rail in a second. The next thing Kori and I heard was "get the poles". Liam and the boys headed below deck to pull out our saltwater fishing gear and soon were at the rail and ready for some real fishing as Kori puts it; not that fresh water stuff. Kori looked at the twins still in their birthday suits and said . . . "Hey squirts, shorts and shirts if you want to fish". Surprising not a word nor a look and Justin and Kyle were in loud, flashy Bahama style shorts and shirts and back at the rail with Liam. Kori reminded me how Liam loved to fish when he was "The Twins" age and said . . . "Jake remember when Liam used to love to go to the D.A.R. State Forest and fish? He would always catch the first fish and more fish than you, me, Peter or Neil. I wonder who gets the first fish today. I had the wheel and Kori joined Liam and the twins and as I looked at them I only saw 4 young boys having the time of their life. Liam was showing Justin and Kyle how to set the lure but had a thing or two to learn about these little rug-rats. Kyle and Justin were already experienced offshore fisherman and ready to claim the first fish. Liam smiled and politely acknowledged the boys claim but had his line in the water first. Apparently this was to be an all out competitive fishing event and Liam was that little boy once again. Just as Kyle was about to drop his line in the water it happened ........... Liam screamed . . . "Hooked, Jake turn the boat slightly to starboard" Kori pointed to the water and the twins set their poles on the deck. Liam knew this one felt different. Liam remained at the rail and all remaining hands reefed the sails to slow the boat. We watched Liam as this fish peeled the line off the reel easily. Justin hollered out . . . "OMG this is a big one" . . . Kori took the helm and tried to position Jabbering almost over the fish. This fish had other ideas. The drag sang as the line disappeared into the dark water. Justin now had the camera and clicking photos as Liam said . . . "Damn I don't want this fish to get away; Kori steady the boat." The twins glanced at me as they had never heard Liam use this language or be so animated, I just winked and they could read my lips as I said . . . "it's Ok". Liam tried to stay focused and fought the fish but was worried about the jagged rocks and sharp ledges below. It was another stressful 15 minutes till the twins and I saw a flash below as the sun hit the stripes on the fish. Liam inched the fish closer and closer to the surface and said . . . "Net net .... Jake grab the net" . . . I had the net and lunged and netted this really big striper the fish hit the deck and we all stared at this beautiful 40 pound striper. Liam was exhausted but thrilled as this was the biggest striper he had ever landed. The twins were hugging Liam and there were high fives all around. There were photos with the boys, me, and Kori and although Liam won the competition nothing was said . . . except . . . who wants fish for dinner? Fishing was not over for the day as Kyle and Justin were not about give up without bringing a fish or two on deck. Their lines hit the water at about the same time and it was only minutes before the excitement started all over again. Almost simultaneously Kyle and Justin had hooked good sized Bluefish and as I had the wheel Kori and Liam helped the twins land their fish. The camera clicked and then clicked some more as two excited Asian boys danced with their prize catches. I was just thinking how Kori and I love this area. Block Island, Nantucket Sound and area from Mystic to the end of Cape Cod has been our playground for some years. Now with the twins, our little rug-rats, and Jabbering it is and will be the most amazing adventurous summer ever. I was daydreaming when I felt a little peck on each cheek I never know just what to expect from the twins it could have just as easily been a little love slap to wake me up. Block Island is just 10 square miles and is only 12 miles south of Point Judith, Rhode Island. I grew up sailing here as a kid and here I am back here but better with Kori, Liam and the twins. Summer is fantastic always full of adventures or lazy days in the sun. Oh speaking of the sun I see the sun worshipers have changed back to being naked. I think more sunscreen is needed. We have almost reached the entrance lane to the Great Salt Pond as it is called. It is a great area surrounded by Block Island and includes Cormorant Pond and Trim Pond as great places to either drop anchor or rent a slip. Now with sails down and engine running we entered the Great Salt Pond and waved to all the sail and fishing boats as they were coming and going from the pond. It was a very friendly atmosphere and the day was just so perfect. Kori turned the boat sharply to starboard and in just a minute we were entering Cormorant Pond. It was amazing with many boats at anchorage and almost as if we were being greeted by everyone with waves, horns and cheers as we passed them and on to our anchorage. Liam noticed and pointed out why all the cheers, thumbs up, horns tooting and smiles and laughs. Kori, Liam and I had been busy as we entered Cormorant Pond and not really paying much attention to Kyle and Justin who now were the center of attention and the reason why we were receiving this amazing greeting. Yes . . . there the twins were atop the cabin where the main mast is stepped with one arm wrapped around the mast and the other arm waving to each and everyone as we passed. Of course they stood completely naked. Liam laughed, I smiled and Kori turned purple as we heard one lady holler . . . "Good looking kids you got there". Then I think everyone on Block Island heard Kori . . . . "Get your shorts and shirts on Now!". . .The boys scrambled below decks and from another boat we heard . . . "Lighten up there Captain Bligh they are only kids". Liam turned to Kori and said . . . "Kori you're getting to old to remember how funny it was when me and Ning were naked all the time. Remember swimming at the pond?" . . . Kori gave me the wheel and went below with the boys it was obvious he realized how he had over reacted. Minutes later Kori and "The Twins" re-appeared all smiles so I guess things are fine. Soon we were all having a great time with a word game the boys had devised and it was fun as we all tried to learn some Korean. The Block Island boat came along side to inform us there would be an informal and fun talk tonight at Dead Eye Dick's about Block Island and the amazing fishing community here and the area. http://www.deadeyedicksbi.com/index.html The young boy running the boat just had to make this comment as he shoved off . . . "Hey you guys put on a real good show on your way in" . . . Oh thanks kid now look what you started. Justin and Kyle were beaming from ear to ear as they told the kid . . . "See you tonight" We hadn't even said we were going but apparently "The Twins" were making decisions now. Ok we are going. Dinner was amazing and the fish Liam caught landed on our plates and was better than any we had in a long, long time. We dressed in our better shorts and soon the 26 ft. Yacht Club launch arrived and we were off to Dead Eye Dick's. It was a warm and friendly ride as we went from boat to boat picking up other guests for tonight's program. Of course everyone thought how cute Kyle and Justin are. We arrived at Dead Eye Dick's at 8pm and were ushered to this huge deck with now about 100 people seated. It was like we were celebrities well not Kori, Liam or me but Justin and Kyle as we walked to our seats with applause, cheers, and whistles. The boys waved to everyone and got a few undesired kisses from a few ladies but it surely didn't slow them down. We were seated center and about halfway from the stage. Our drinks had just arrived when the island Chief of Police walked over. Kori and I wanted to hide and were not really sure what he was going to say. Were we in trouble for our entrance to Cormorant Pond? . . . Nope. The Police Chief was all smiles as he greeted "The Twins" first then shook hands with Kori, Liam and I and said what a pleasure it was to meet such young celebrities they must be the newest K-Pop sensation. Yes he was joking, I think, but the entire crowd applauded. The program started . . . Ladies and Gentleman welcome to Dead Eye Dick's and it is our pleasure to tell you about our amazing Island and its awesome fishing. .......... Block Island has always been a great striped bass destination, but over the past seven or eight years, fishing for huge trophy bass has exploded. Science-based theories suggest that multiple robust year classes have contributed to this success; several fish over 60 pounds are caught in Block's waters each year. As I listened I thought about when I was a kid in Newport and how I sailed and fished these waters. Now I am reliving it with my family and I want them to have the same memories and adventures I had. Kori, Liam and the boys were enjoying every minute of the program as was I. The presenter told of the very best spots and to be sure Kyle and Justin were making notes. It was explained all about the different and fast moving currents and the fast changing water depths. The boys were glued to his every word like watching a movie of dinosaurs roaming the earth about to devour unsuspecting earthlings. The fish being described were shown on a 20 foot large screen in brilliant color. Soon the program ended but with an hour of questions and answers. We had our next surprise as "The Twins" were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for their grand entrance to our anchorage. It was of course drawn a on a huge flat cake that the boys made the first cuts in and then shared with all the guests. Our launch boat boy came over and Kyle and Justin gave him hugs and insisted he join us. Neither Kori nor I objected. Blond, blue eyes maybe 16 oh did I say handsome? Within minutes Justin and Kyle found out he was off tomorrow and had invited him to join us for fishing. Kori looked at me and Liam and then said . . . "Well if it is Ok with your parents we would be happy to have you join us". Our new friend, Ethan, informed us he was here as part of a school summer program and staying with the owners of Dead Eye Dick's and he would be happy to be with us for the day. At some time soon we need to have a talk with the boys. Ethan excused himself to get the boat ready to return guests to their boats for the night. Kori, Liam and I had the boy's attention as we explained that it would be best to always ask us before inviting someone to join us for the day as we may have other plans. Justin and Kyle understood and agreed that it would be a good idea and said they just were so excited. Just then Reggae Music started and Kyle and Justin were up and dancing like K-Pop professionals to the amazing sounds of Reggae music. The crowd went wild and encouraged the boys to be just about as bad as they could be, bad being the good bad as it is used. Well the boys now were encouraging the guests and there were about 50 people up and dancing to the music. I swear these two kids are about the most gifted kids I've ever seen. The announcement was made that the launch was at the landing. Once we were onboard Kyle and Justin were all snuggled up to Ethan like he was some old friend they had known for years. Kori, Liam and I understood that Ethan was an older boy that had given them attention and they loved it. Apparently the order of dropping off all the other guests left us last or Ethan was enjoying the attention he was receiving from "The Twins" either way we all enjoyed the ride. Finally we were at Jabbering and Ethan got big hugs from Kyle and Justin. Ethan said he would use his skiff to join us in the morning and was off to return the Yacht Club boat. Once we were all onboard and settled down around the table in the salon Kori, Liam and I found out why the return boat ride was so long .... Yep, Kyle and Justin asked Ethan to make us last. ................. Not surprising. We played a game of Clue and the boys played as 1 person ... so you already know who won. It was off to showers and bed. Liam had the boy's cabin with the boys, ahhhhh yes and Kori and I had our cabin to ourselves. Yes! . . . . . It was quiet and I turned to wrap my arms around Kori and as I did Kori turned quickly and kissed me and I heard those words. Just as he had said when he was 12 I heard . . . "I love you" it was the same sound now as then; each word had that special sound that special meaning and I love the way he says it and always will. I pulled Kori to me and I could feel his body against mine warm and I could feel the excitement between us. Just then the cabin door opened abruptly and two naked Asian kids flew in . . . . ,without knocking again, . . . . and wanted to give us a kiss goodnight. As fast as they arrived they were gone and so was that excitement. Kori and I laughed and fell asleep till morning. Next . . . .
