Thank you jacoblion@tutanota.com . . . A Neglected Boy, "The Twins" XIV . . . . It was just 6:30 am and the sun was just beginning to peak in but that was not what made our eyes open. It was not some Great White rubbing the hull of our boat. It was not the sound of the seagulls screeching . . . no . . . it was Kyle and Justin as they were pulling the warm blanket from our naked bodies and their cheerful greetings telling us Ethan was on his way. Ethan wasn't on the way he wouldn't be here till 8 but Justin and Kyle wanted to make sure we were up ready and breakfast in plenty of time. The boys had been up for awhile as they already had all the swim gear out and cleaned and ready to go snorkeling. Jake and I have to beg them to help never mind have it all done. Jake looked like he was sleep walking but a cup of coffee soon had his eyes fully open and asking where Liam was. I opened the cabin door to the boy's cabin and there peacefully sound asleep was big macho boy Liam. You know the fish Guru . . . . the one and only expert who snags the first fish of the day. Jake looked at me and then we looked at "The Twins" and said . . . Sic em . . . . The expression on Kyle and Justin's face was priceless. The boys had been given permission to attack and they did. OMG I had the camera ready as they attacked Liam full force. Blankets were torn off as they poked, tickled, kissed, pulled his hair and bounced on him. The laughter could be heard all the way to the next 3 or 4 boats. When Liam had enough he just grabbed the boys and held them tight and I could hear him as he told them he loved them a bushel and a peck. Breakfast was my special and Jake reminded me and Liam of the first time we made breakfast for Jonah, Simon and Peter. I think Jonah almost passed out when he saw the table. Well today was going to be long and active so I pulled out all the stops and it was a dozen eggs, bacon, home fries, beans, take that back no beans, sausage, sliced tomatoes and toast with peanut butter, Coffee for Jake and Liam and me well some rather strong tea, Jonahs style of tea it eats the finish right off the pot. The boys had OJ and milk. We heard a voice and it was Ethan, an hour early. Jake hollered up and said . . . "Hey Ethan down here you're just in time for breakfast". I'm happy I used the dozen eggs and Liam fed the toaster some more bread. Ethan didn't make it to the table before being assaulted by Justin and Kyle. He looked at the table and said . . . "Wow the boys were telling the truth about breakfast thanks for the invite boys." What?!?! . . . I looked at Jake who was laughing and said . . . "Jake maybe another talk with you know who." Breakfast was inhaled and enjoyed by all but now a little surprise for the boys . . . all 3 boys, Dishes! Liam, Jake and I had a little more coffee and tea up in the cockpit. It was not long before 3 very handsome kids appeared on deck ready for a day of snorkeling and fishing. This kid Ethan was so cute. His blond hair had been bleached lighter by the sun and his eyes were that striking blue. I can only imagine the number of girls and I bet some boys he has following him around school. We decided to swim first and Ethan told us of his favorite spot with unbelievable crystal clear water. We released the boat from the mooring and motored out and around the island on the sound side to Grace Cove. We entered and carefully motored to near the beach. It was just as Ethan described. The wind was perfect leaving us on flat calm water and as you looked over the rail you could count the stones on the sand 20 feet below. We were the only boat there and Kyle and Justin were ready to swim. Jake gave them the Ok and they dropped their shorts and speedos and were in the water in seconds. Ethan never even looked at Jake, Liam or me and dropped his swim shorts and was skinny dipping with Justin and Kyle. I tossed the snorkels to the boys and Jake, Liam and I watched them for a few minutes. All 3 boys swim like little porpoise and were a delight to watch. Soon Liam and I were in the water with the boys while Jake remained on watch with the boat. Kyle swam to the boat and asked for the underwater camera and told Jake there were small Tiger Sand Sharks and wanted photos. Liam was excited and next to tell Jake but by now Jake had seen the sharks in the clear blue water. Ethan pointed to Liam, Kyle and Justin and to the boat time to get out. When the boys were on deck and excitedly telling Jake all about their find and the growing number of sharks Ethan explained why it was time to be back on deck. Ethan said he spotted a Sandbar shark about 8 feet long working its way toward them. He said . . . "I saw a man bitten by a Sandbar Shark last summer and I don't want to be in the water with them". As we all listened to Ethan tell about the sharks I noticed Justin looking rather inquisitively at Ethan. I watched as his eyes traveled from Ethan's shoulders to his belly button and then I knew why. Ethan had hair in his armpits but not from his belly button down .... there he was as the same as Justin and Kyle smooth not even a hint of a hair. Kyle saw Justin looking and without hesitation asked . . . "Ethan when does hair grow down there like in your armpits?" Ethan turned a little red and said . . . "Well really it already does grow down there but I just don't like it". I know Jake and I have already explained about the hair thing and at what age but the boys were curious and the next thing we knew Justin and Kyle were in for a closer look. Curiosity kills the cat and I could have at least knocked two heads together. Jake although quick carefully pulled "The Twins" back from Ethan's private area and apologized as did I to Ethan. Liam standing a few feet away had a slight smile and appeared very amused at the situation. Without even the slightest note of embarrassment Ethan said . . . "It's Ok guys not the first time I have been asked nor had someone take a closer look. It happened the first year I was on the swim team after laps and we were showering. I've been called a few names too but the funny thing is now most of the team is clean saved down here so nothing shows above the Speedos". Nothing more was said and Liam and Jake applied more sunscreen to all 3 boys as I started the engine to go fishing. Remember the saying "boys will be boys"? Well sure enough with Kyle and Justin you can count on it. Liam was applying sunscreen to Ethan and Jake to Kyle and Justin when Justin pointed to Ethan and said . . . "See Ethan gets a stiffy just like me and Kyle when you put that stuff on us". Yikes. . . . Well Ethan didn't have a stiffy but it was a little bigger and if Liam hadn't stopped it could have been a lot bigger. We motored around to the ocean side near Indian Head Neck dropped anchor and fixed lunch before fishing. Jake and Liam made meatball subs for everyone along with chips and chocolate smoothies. Not much to say about that except . . . delicious! Lunch finished it was to get the lines in the water and see who would catch the first big fish. Liam, Jake, Justin, Kyle and Ethan were forward on the starboard side as I sat relaxing in the cockpit just watching the boys and the water. It was a beautiful afternoon and the sun felt so good. My eyes were shut and I heard Ethan softly say . . . "Kori can I ask you a question?" . . . I opened my eyes and he was standing close to me his leg almost touching mine as I said . . . "Ethan ask anything you wish" his eyes were sad as he said . . . "Kori you know don't you?" I looked at him not sure what to say or ask. After a slight pause I said . . . "Ethan I'm not sure what it is that you may think I know but here is one thing I am absolutely sure I know . . . you are a very nice, intelligent kid with good character and I am pleased to know you." . . . . . . . Ethan studied my face a moment I think he was about to cry but bit his lip instead and then softly said . . . "I'm gay and you knew it. I don't have anyone to talk with, none of my friends know and I have to pretend to be what I am not. I keep everything in and I hear the owner at Dead Eye Dick's talk about the gay waiters and I really hate him." Wow this kid just dropped a bomb on me. Yes I suspected he was gay even though there was never a hint. I looked at him and said . . . "Ethan you can talk to me as much as you like but you know this is for just 4 or 5 days and we have to return to Mystic and home to New Haven." There was a long period of silence but his face had such a beautiful smile and then he said . . . "I live in Branford we're neighbors . . . can I maybe visit you and Jake?" I looked directly at Ethan and said . . . "How about you and I talk to Jake together?" There was this incredible smile from ear to ear and in a shot he was gone and I saw his line hit the water. I already knew what Jake would say just wanted Ethan to hear Jake say it. I stepped out onto the deck and walked up to see all the boys and ask where all the fish were. Jake looked at me then Ethan then a smile and a wink. Soon Kyle and Justin were getting fidgety until Liam exclaimed . . . . "Hooked" and the fight was on but not before Kyle and Ethan shouted . . . . "Hooked". Justin was disappointed and began to walk slowly toward me when all of a sudden his rod nearly jumped from his hand. Geeez he had hooked a big one. Now Liam, Kyle, and Ethan were fighting there fish and Jake trying to help where he could and Justin was looking for help, he really had snagged a big one. It looked like the other boys may have all hooked a Blue but Justin had either a nice Striper or, or a shark. The reel would stop running line out and Justin would pull up then wind and pull up again and then all at once the damn thing would sing loud as the fish would turn and run. I was trying to help Justin hold the rod and hold Justin too. All of a sudden it stopped, ......... nothing the line went slack it was gone. Justin was tired and started to relax and as he handed me his rod that bugger of a fish took off like a shot out of a gun. The reel screamed louder than before and it looked like smoke was coming from the line as it left the spool. I had all I could do to hold Justin and the rod at the same time. Jake left the boys and came to help just as the big fish broke the water. Justin had snagged a large Striped Bass and was not about to let it go. All the boys had brought their fish onboard and now were watching Justin fight with all his life to try to land this big one. Liam was right there helping and Kyle now had the camera taking photos. Things looked good but finally Justin just didn't have the strength to land the fish. Perhaps what happened next was meant to happen as Justin called Ethan to finish the fight. Justin and Kyle stood beside Ethan as he worked and worked the fish. Closer and closer this fish would come, stop almost as if it were dead . . . . it was playing a game with the angler; who would win was the question. I saw Ethan relax ....... Bad move and the fish nearly tore the rod from his hand. The reel sang its song once again but this time the fish wasn't playing and was out to win the fight. It dove to the bottom and the line bent beneath the boat we knew what was to happen. The line drew tight then tighter then stopped. The boys were going from side to side trying to see the fish but nothing. The line remained tight and the pole bent to its breaking point ....... it was then that the line went slack the pole pointing straight out. The stillness was deafening not a sound not a word spoken, nothing. It was almost as if the air had stopped moving. Ethan made the move and snapped the pole high in the air it was either land the fish or it had won and was gone .............. Today the fish won. We hadn't realized but the fight was over an hour long. Something very, very good had also happened today three boys had gained what was to become a lifelong friendship. We pulled the anchor and cleaned the boat as we headed for our anchorage at Cormorant Cove. It had been an exciting day with an adventure that will never be forgotten. Liam took the wheel with Justin and Kyle as Jake, Ethan and I went to the foredeck to talk. Ethan was a little nervous but explained to Jake what he had explained to me. Jake in his usual loving way put his arm around Ethan and said . . . "Ethan you are only a guest once after that you're family." Ethan hugged Jake then me and walked off to join Liam and "The Twins". Jake looked at me and said . . . "We always wanted a large family" we laughed and joined the party with Liam and the boys. The next four days were bound to be full of surprises. We motored around to the entrance of the Great Salt Pond and a hard turn to starboard into Cormorant Cove. Like yesterday horns, cheers and waves from every boat but today Kyle and Justin were joined by Ethan and all were in brightly colored shorts and shirts. It was noticed that Ethan has quite a few fans of his own. Once we had picked up our mooring and were safely secured Ethan thanked us for a great day and jumped into his skiff and headed for Dead Eye Dick's. Justin and Kyle were tired and it was to be an early night for all of us. Dinner was great . . . fresh fish grilled with fresh veggies on the grill as well and much better than anything you get at a restaurant. The boys were so tired they were in bed before sunset. Liam, Jake and I sat out on deck to enjoy the evening as the sun had set and the stars were beginning to shine in the evening sky. Liam began to tell us of his observations of the day. He was right on with his thoughts regarding Ethan. Liam thought his family life was that of a boy living in a home where the parents were super strict and non-tolerant of gay or bisexual life styles. It was apparent to Liam that Ethan was drawn to Jake and me last night and was seeking us to open up to. Liam went on to tell us how holding everything in like Ethan has been doing holds back his true potential and can cause so many emotional problems, now and later. Jake jumped in and told Liam that Ethan lives only minutes from us and that we have already told him he was only a guest once and after that he's family just as Peter and Garret and Riku were and of course Ning. Liam smiled then laughed and the whole discussion turned to Ning, Peter, Garret and Riku. It was one do you remember story after another. We all remembered different times and stories about each of the kids but Riku, wow, was that kid ever horny. He came to live with his uncle with an unbelievable sex education. . . . "Hey I'm going to bed cause all this talk about Riku is going to give me a wet dream. Liam you and Jake stay up as late as you want". We all laughed and called it a night. The cabin door closed Jake wrapped his arms around me and the sound of water slapping against the hull had us fast asleep in seconds. Next . . . .
